This year for Halloween I was Azems summoning circle. Immensely proud of how this turned out and that I get to summon my friends from around the world on a regular basis.
Sorry I've been so inactive lately I've been feeling kinda down and don't want to do anything anymore. I am planning on trying to finish my neko cosplay soon though and after that I want to start on a Zombieland saga cosplay too! I'm hoping to have them done in time for the Sask expo in September.
Per usual, I will be bringing some of my Anna costumes, but I am also cosplaying from two other period dramas this year as well. I might end up wearing more than one costume per day, but here’s my main schedule:
Thursday: Neko Bates Family shirt
Friday: Anna, S6 Lady’s maid
Saturday: Nancy, from Victoria
Sunday: Caroline from Poldark
Monday: Anna, Housemaid
(more, i.e. better, photos of my Anna cosplays are here)
I am also a panelist for some period drama fan-ran panels. Alas, no panel dedicated to Downton Abbey again this year (I did submit something and was told there was no room on the schedule; that said that was also pre-movie announcement, so perhaps maybe there will be some discussion at the Friday panel as part of the “and more”).
Friday is also when we plan to have the DA cosplay photoshoot. If you are interested in meeting up with me and/or the cosplay gang at the con (with or without costume), that’s probably the best time to do it, so let me know!
Panels:
Historical Roulette: Call the Midwife, Poldark, & More!
~~~Friday, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., in Hilton Galleria 5
What’s up with the Royals? The Shared Saga of Victoria and The Crown
~~~Saturday, 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. in Sheraton’s Athens room
Making a Drama: The Mammoth Screen Fan Panel
~~~Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., in Hilton Galleria 5
Also as an aside: Kevin McNally, Phyllis’ husband who also played Horace Bryant in S2 and S3, is a guest of the convention!
Anyone watched this anime? I did cause you know, girls with mechs .. haha . I would give it a C+ or B- which by I mean, a little above average which is kinda good for anime and even better for a mech anime. I really enjoy the main three girls, I’d love to cosplay them. One kinda reminds me of my ex/friend, the blue one. Her name is Laffinty, I actually really love her and the pink/peach one Muginami , it’s another anime that’s not well known and kinda dumb to do a side character without a group.
About a better than average school girl, Madoka, who is able to piolit a mech through her abilities after meeting a strange girl amed Laffinty who leads her to having a permenate mech. Laffinty is completely socially nonnaware because she is not from the earth we know, later the girls run into the third mech piolit Muginami who seems like a bitch and also seems to know Laffinty. Madoka is thrown into a saga of mechs and politics as well as the mysterious hidden past of Earth.
This is been a Mech anime review by your girl @suglitecity ♥️ should I review more of these? I feel like it shows that I’m a tried and tried nerd/weeb. Lol.
I promised I would provide some detail costume breakdown of my Azem summoning circle. It took me about 85 hours total over 19 days. The skirt is overlayed over a red petticoat (because it’s the only one I had long enough) I made the skirt about 7 in longer than floor length for me because I’m wearing platform shoes!
The skirt is two layers of black chiffon. The bottom layer is a normal circle skirt, top layer is a seven panel circle skirt. Figuring out the math for this part was hellacious I do not recommend it. The top was gold lamé with black chiffon overlay. The waistband circles are gold upholstery bolts that I used bolt cutters to remove the stabby bits of and the beams from the waistband are from a fringey door cover that I dissected. I then twisted the beams (fringe) and fastened them to the skirt.
The Ps and the filigree things are from bathroom wall decals that I cut into pieces. Then I added rhinestones, these triangle book decorations, and sequins for the designs and the giant summoning circles.
The rest of the designs are various additional pieces of fringe, rhinestones, and hand painted designs with gold calligraphy ink. I almost added my statics job symbols into the summoning circles but I didn’t have time.
There’s still more I want to add to this but I’m ecstatic how it turned out and felt like an absolute goddess.
@dorian-mode and I were in a cabaret this weekend where we sang “Good Riddance” from Hades! I made our costumes because nothing in my closet yelled Orpheus and Eurydice to me and I’m so glad. We sounded fantastic and even had one person recognize the song! Everything turned out exactly how I pictured it and I’m very happy.
Every year I’m like oh I’ll do something easy for Halloween I don’t need to be too extra and then I find myself elbow deep in hot glue, sequins and upholstery bolts with a dissected door curtain and wire cutters
I only have three big projects actually planned for the year and my brain is trying to become overwhelmed. Nope not allowed. We will make progress on them intermittently and we will not be crashing the system with the details of everything.
I bought some things from the Home Depot for cosplay raisins and for some reason they have all been shipped to me separately. Which is fine, shipping is free, but im gonna have like 7 Home Depot boxes when I could have had 1, so that’s mildly inconvenient
The other day I was feeling pretty depressed and decided to make something pretty to wear. All these fabrics are from around my house and it took about 10 hours of construction and most of that was hand hemming the sleeves and the two layers of star chiffon. Damn proud and damn pretty in this!
