Just thinking about how Chachamaru is a male calico, at least according the Taisho Secret right before chapter 195 that calls him manly. It really doesn't surprise me that he's male, because so many references to calicos I've seen in manga, mascots, and temple architecture specify that the featured calico is male.

This is because they are rare, and therefore considered lucky.

The figure that gets thrown around the internet is that supposedly only 1 in every 3000 calicos is male. (I'll bet the people who did the often quoted study at U. of Minn. College of Vet Med would love to tell you how it's more complicated than that.) This has long made male calicos popular not only in Japan, but in other countries as well. The thing is, though, the male calico might not always be so lucky.

To be very brief about why calicos (and some other multicolored cats) are almost always female, this is because, put very simply, one X chromosome gives us the black splotches, and one X chromosome gives us the orange splotches. That might leave you wondering where the white patches come from, and this is the part where I say that genetics is never simple and you should have fun reading about it. The important takeaway here is that in order to show this color pattern, a cat needs two X chromosomes, one from its mother and one from its father.

Typically, a male cat has an X chromosome (from its female mother, who only has two X chromosomes) and a Y chromosome (from its father, who had both an X and a Y), but because the calico coating can only occur with two X chromosomes, this male cat somehow got an X, a Y, and... hmm, another X somewhere.

So not a typical XY male, not a typical XX calico... this sterile XXY male calico has an extra chromosome, and mutations often are not ideal for the health of the animal with the extra chromosome. This particular condition is Klinefelter’s Syndrome, which can lead to a male calico having cognitive and behavior issues, weaker bones, increased risk of diabetes due to higher body fat, and perhaps a shorter lifespan.

Now, none of the fictitious lucky cats I've seen have ever been portrayed as anything less than smart and pleasant, though a lot of the maneki-neko are pretty round. For everything Chachamaru is tasked with, I have to assume he's above-average when it comes to intelligence, reasonably healthy enough to handle long-distance travel, and for a cat, he's extremely, extremely cooperative. For the record, the same Taisho Secret (as well as Yushiro's statement in Chapter 194) makes it clear that for most of canon Chachamaru was a regular cat, for he was not made into a demon until right before the final showdown with Muzan. Even with her hands full making the medicine for Muzan, she still put a lot of effort into changing Chachamaru so that Yushiro wouldn't be lonely. It's ironic that Chachamaru winds up immortal, rather than doomed to a potentially shorter lifespan due to his mark...ings. In the first place, was Tamayo perhaps moved with pity for a sickly kitten and nursed him to the health he's in now?

Or did she always keep her eye out for a male calico, wanting to put some faith in them being good luck?

Also, what sticks out to me in this Taisho Secret is that Chachamaru, not having a language in which he could communicate with Tamayo, had no choice in becoming a demon. Tamayo felt sorry about that. The word bubble over manly little Chachamaru says, with bravado, "Fine by me, if that's what the woman I'm smitten with wishes." If Chachamaru truly is that smitten with her, that perhaps accounts for what an unusually cooperative cat he is. But it also reminds me of a fan theory that I saw once (and found worthy of weight) which said that perhaps Tamayo's blood technique has an effect like makes others smitten with her, and Yushiro might had been under its influence, however strongly or subtly. If such a thing were the case, it might or might not had been something Tamayo was conscious of. If she was conscious of having some effect like that, she probably felt awful about it but found it a necessary precaution to keep any demon she made under control. If she wasn't conscious of such a thing, that means she might had subconsciously developed it out of loneliness, and had been trying to keep company at her side.

He had seen many a creature age and wither before. The beasts on his mountain aged exceptionally fast, when the young boar halfling hardly noticed the passage of time. Swine siblings would reach their adult size when Inosuke had barely grown a few inches. Rodents, rabbits, even the deer and the wolves would come to pass within a few snow seasons... but Inosuke had a feeling that Muzan didn't quite play by the same rules.

He was a Daiyoukai, after all. The greatest of all.

Inosuke gathered the remnants of his strength, so he could lift a closed fist towards Muzan's face. His knuckle came to sink into the other's cheek, pushing until Inosuke could feel the fangs underneath, before it came crashing by his side once again.

"... alright. You win this round. But next time, I'll get you! I'll eat a huge meal... I'll train suuuuuper hard... and I'll defeat you, neko-jiji! Just you wait!"

It would only be the 42nd time he made that promise. 43rd time's the charm, right?

Shinobu walked through her estate, holding a tray with various potions and medicines.

Milo walked up to the insect hashira, a smile on her face.

“Good morning, Shinobu san!” She said, bowing slightly.

“Hello Milo. How are you?” Shinobu replied with her usual smile.

“I’m great, how about you?” Milo asked and Shinobu smiled sweetly.

“That’s good, I’m doing well myself.” Shinobu smiled, adjusting her hold on the tray slightly.

Milo looked at the tray curiously.

She noticed a beaker containing a pale pink, sparkling liquid.

Shinobu noticed the neko spirit observing her potions and medicines.

“These are potions that I’m experimenting with and these are medicines for my patients.” She said, motioning to each.

“What’s this potion?” Milo asks, pointing to the sparkly pink one.

“It’s a love potion. One person drinks one half and another person has to drink the other half for it to work.” Shinobu explains and Milo nods.

“Wait, but the beaker is only half full?” Milo inquired, a puzzled expression on her face.

Shinobu paused then forced the pink liquid down Milo’s throat.

Upon swallowing the potion, Milo’s eyes went from a beautiful shade of blue to a light pink, matching the potion.

Shinobu smiled. “It worked!” She exclaimed triumphantly.

Tanjiro felt like something was wrong.

He gasps at the realization. “Milo!” He says to himself then runs outside of the room.

Tanjiro sees something he never expected.

Milo and Genya, kissing.

(Shinobu knew that the potion had been drank out of but she had no idea that Genya is the one who drank the other half, she thought it was Tanjiro that drank it)

“M-Milo…” Tanjiro whispered, betrayal filled his expression.

He ran off, tears streaming down his face.

Tanjiro stayed in his patient room for the rest of the day.

Milo had been looking for him, completely oblivious to what she had done hours before.

She knocked on the door to his room and heard a muffled “Come in.”. She opened the door to see Tanjiro scrunched up on his futon.

“Tanji? Is everything ok?” She questioned, worry lacing her voice.

“Don’t pretend like you still love me..” The boy spat back, his voice held many emotions. Jealousy, anger, sadness, betrayal, and that’s just to name a few.

“W-what do you mean.?” She asked, flinching at the hostility in his tone.

Tanjiro sighed angrily. “Don’t try to act innocent in this, Milo! I know you would rather be with Genya!” He yelled and Milo shrunk back fearfully, tears filling her blue, shaky eyes.

Tanjiro sat up and saw her terrified expression.

Milo’s eyes flashed back to the pink for a brief moment.

“T-Tanjiro.. I don’t know what you’re talking about but if you don’t want me around, I-I’ll leave…” Milo said, her voice breaking.

She smiled sadly then walked out.

Tanjiro didn’t even try to stop her.

‘Why did her eyes flash to a light pink?’ Is the only thing he could think about after that.

After Milo had ran off, she had sadly been turned into a demon by none other than Muzan.

Tanjiro had been given a mission to slay a particularly powerful demon, the new upper moon 5 to be specific (cause this is after gyutaro and daki got killed).

The burgundy haired slayer sped through the forest only to see the demon he was meant to slay.

“I suppose you’re the one who was sent to slay me huh, Tanjiro?” Milo said, turning around to look Tanjiro in his plum reds.

“M-Milo..???” He stuttered out and Milo just laughed bitterly.

“Y’know, if you had’ve allowed me to explain, this never would’ve happened. Maybe you should’ve gone to Shinobu san instead of blowing up at me immediately.” Milo said as she walked around him.

Tanjiro’s eyes filled with tears and he gripped the hilt of his katana.

He pulled it out of his sheathe, yelling as he attempted to stab into Milo.

“You’re really going to resort to murder? Just because you know I’m right? Goodness Tanjiro, you really have changed.” Milo said with a laugh.

“No, you’ve changed!” Tanjiro yelled through his tears. “You’re not who I fell in love with!” He continued, his voice breaking.

Milo slashed at Tanjiro’s chest, giving him a pretty big wound.

Tanjiro attempted to cut her head off.

“You never really loved me, did you Tanjiro?!” Milo yelled angrily, as she dodged his repeated attempts at beheading her.

She scratched at her arm then wiped the blood on his exposed chest. “Blood demon art: death by starlight.” Milo says calmly and Tanjiro is left unconscious.

“It’s a shame, you always did look good in red.” Milo says calmly, then proceeds to take her own katana and stab him in the chest, killing him instantly.

Milo sighs then walks off, tears brimming her blue eyes.

“I’m sorry, Tanji…” She said, a bit of her humanity coming up to the surface.

Opinión mía que no importa : me encanta que tanjiro vuelva a ser humano pero tambien como muchos han dicho es un desperdicio que tanjiro se volvió demonio hace unos pocos capitulos y que enseguida vuelva a ser humano, un potencial para seguír la trama fue desperdiciado aparte que las medicinas han sido algo sobre explotadas pero no importa, tamayo le tomo mas de 500 años preparar algo para muzan y es entendible que estas medicinas hayan sido asi, yo en todo esto siempre me esperé que tanjiro con la medicina no funcione, sino que recupere un poco la consciencia y huya, era lo que espera pero gotōge siempre nos sorprende con algo aun asi se ve que será un gran capitulo 👌💕
