You can't tell me our main man Jim, Jim Kirk, James Kirk, James T Kirk, James Tiberius Kirk, CAPTAIN stack of books on legs James Respectful and Sensitive Tiberius Kirk does not know about Vulcan hand touching and their significance.
This man. JAMES KIRK. Looked at Spock, clearly vulcan spock, hands firmly planted behind his back Spock. LOOKED him up and down, and despite absolutely knowing it would not be considered impolite if he didnt offer a hand shake, looked at Spock, tall drink of water Spock, Vulcan sensitive hands used as terms of affection Spock, and was like hmmmm absolutely will make this Vulcan shake my hand. AND SPOCK gave like 1 second of thought before he was like yes absolutely here is my hand to hold for you and you only. I AM DECEASED

(probably) clever fight club epiphanies that have smacked me in the face with a hammer recently:
marla is the centre of tyler. tyler is created as a version of narrator that he deems good enough to date marla as well as a projection of his desire for marla that he represses along with his other desires throughout the book/film. tyler is presented as a father/teacher figure for narrator (but chuck palahniuk cannot write convincing romance unless it's accidental so they actually have better grounds for a relationship than narrator and marla somehow). as narrator goes through the events of fight club and learns to accept his true self without the guidance of tyler, he is finally able to reassess and realise his desire for marla (which is def better portrayed in the book than the film). this also makes the scene in the book where marla tells narrator that she loves him instead of tyler and 'can tell the difference' hit 10x harder.
the modern world (1999 and also present day) advertises self-actualisation through consumerism ('self care' ect.). at the start of the book/film, narrator buys into these ideas of essentially 'buying happiness' though his materialism/consumerism when it comes to ikea catalogues (quote from the film- "I was one step from being complete"- also how these companies are constantly creating new stuff to stop you from ever actually feeling complete so you buy more stuff). however, throughout the events of the book/film, narrator's repressed anger towards this consumerist ideal of being 'complete' manifests itself into tyler, fight club and project mayhem- these are ways he tries to self- actualise and find himself without buying more Stuff.
fight club is created as a social model for men. the men in fight club are able to confront and find the courage to challenge their issues through fighting each other- this concept of being able to work through issues is not as widely accepted for men in other forms of therapy groups, such as the testicular cancer group at the start of the book/film that also asks men to confront/challenge their issues through talking and meditation. to the men in the testicular cancer group (who are already emasculated through their medical diagnosis), this form of therapy is seen as 'girly' and therefore shameful, which is why, in the book, the entire testicular cancer group disbands to join fight club. in this way, they are able to confront/challenge their issues in a way that society deems 'appropriate', and therefore in a way that they do not feel shame for doing so (this also serves to comment on the alluring nature of extremist groups such as incels to men seeking support who are unable to ask for help of out fear of ridicule).
(though probably not chuck's intention because this book was written in the 90s and separating sex from gender was not a common discussion) the motif of emasculation through the loss of physical attributes (the testicular cancer group/ project mayhem castrating people) points towards materialism in society and the unstable masculinity of the men in this book. these men are easily emasculated and are unable to understand how their inner identity is not directly related to their outward appearance, which is something tyler would fight against in my woke trans reality ("is that what a man looks like?" ect. ect. ).

i keep going back-and-forth on how amelia is presented by garrett.
on the one hand i think that amelia as a rather meticulous, routine-oriented person does line up with how shes presented, particular in episodes like plug dream. he says she could probably do his job at the gym better than her i think lines up pretty well with how shes presented overall, particularly in episode 8, as she pretty quickly (seemingly) steps up as the de-facto leader in airys absence and takes to the position quite well. even before then, her team mates did seem to look to her on what to do or how to do things. shes good at battening down the hatches and keeping things moving, which tracks with how he describes her. a person who favours consistency seeking consistency, only to have it ripped from her over and over. it works.
however, on the other hand, im not as sure about the presentation as her being "mysterious" from the set go. up until now, the general assumption seems to have been that her past was a mystery because the plane drove a wedge between he old life and her new life. she never talked about her life because she couldnt identify with it anymore, it was stolen from her. in presenting her as a generally secretive way, though, you lose that downward spiral a bit. Sure, she may still feel a disconnect--id bet she does! but now she doesnt talk about her past life cause shes just kinda...like that, i guess. doesnt have the same kick to it, to me.
though i guess garrett does make for a pretty lively narrator, for lack of a better term. maybe you could view him as being a bit unreliable, focusing on the wrong things. Or maybe it could be that amelia just draws a lot of lines in her life in general, between work and friends and family ans whatever else, and having all of that get slammed together, losing the ability to make her own situational definitions of herself by putting her in a position in which she is, fundamentally, nobody but Scenty could have messed with her, if that makes sense. or she could just prefer not to talk personal with her boss.

thinking about nile having nightmares and not being able to sleep post london and then being very tired during the day and taking naps on whoever's around
#like. my heart aches for her thinking about what she's going through after london#debating whether it's safe to contact her family and knowing she'll outlive them and could put them in danger if she does contact them#her friends completely ostracizing her after she came back to life#(once again. what the fuck they should have been so happy??)#so she's completely separated from her former life and is dealing with that loss#the trauma of killing and being killed#like given that she had nightmares about the man she killed in afghanistan i imagine she would also have nightmares a#about the people she killed during the rescue#and this would bring up a lot of complicated emotions and possibly a bit of identity crisis/self reflection on her being a marine#all of this plus being dropped into a group of people who've known each other for hundreds of years + mortal andy - exiled booker#anyway... she is going through a Lot#but: going back to “tell us” i think they would try to take care of her#and talk about her nightmares#(but also. there might be reluctance from nile to share or joe/nicky/andy to ask when she wakes up gasping#because what if she dreamt of quynh. like that's a whole other dimension - do they want to hear about it because it means she's alive#or do they not want to think of her dying over and over. i imagine nile would wrestle with this at first)#ok i got off track the point is. nile taking naps on andy nicky and joe and being comforted. i think that would be nice for her and everyon#there is a lot happening emotionally and andy has to heal physically and they all need to heal emotionally#so. naptime#sorry these tags are so long lol i had more thoughts than i thought#the old guard

I’ve thought about this for years and always assumed that I was overly dramatic or naïve to not want character death in the fictional stories I read, but I’ve come to realize that no, it’s just if the author made me care about the character and they HAVE to die I want it to mean something.
Is this realistic? No. But if I wanted realistic I would turn on the news.
If I can argue a character’s death didn’t actually affect the plot or narrative, then not only does the death feel pointless, so does the entire character. Like you just wrote that character to die or you wrote them and then couldn’t find a way to make them go away.
And in my personal opinion that feels like lazy writing. That feels like the author didn’t plan this out or wrote themselves into a corner, and the second that happens I lose all trust in the author’s ability to give me a satisfying story.

so fucking crazy that barry is an actual like . war vet . with serious ptsd from having killed someone and obvious severe mental issues that he needed genuine serious help with and the military just kicked him out and sent him off to a hospital and went . well hes not our responsibility . and then the hospital went . well hes not our responsibility either. and they let him go and nobody even bothered to check in on him or to make sure he stayed somewhere to get consistent help or even a therapist or psychiatrist who could understand . so he did something so awful and horrific and he couldnt tell anyone about it and he fell right into the arms of someone who had been waiting and watching for him to be that killing machine since he was 5 years old . and he promised he loved him and he understood and he could help barry use his talent for good . barrys ONLY talent. because hes not good at anything else. he doesnt have hobbies or friends. he has fuches. and he has the ability to kill. and he says he can give barry a purpose and make him feel safe and validated and worth something again and hes the only one who will ever understand or accept or genuinely, truly, love him . so barry accepts it and he loves him too . and he does what he wants because he was trained to follow orders and he was trained to kill and all he wants is to feel like hes doing the right thing and he can make up for what he did, he can redeem himself for killing a civilian, by killing these people who are bad guys. who do bad things. what fuches told him . and he believes that . and hes fuches' responsibility. not the military, not the hospital, not anybody else who might truly understand or want to help him or who might realize that maybe, maybe they could have prevented that . prevented who he is . that maybe its their fault . that they broke a sweet, shy, innocent young man with their tales of glory and adventure and patriotism . that they let an innocent man die in front of his family . the military didnt care about any of that. nobody cared once they decided he was safe enough to be let back into society . once they decided he didnt need their help anymore. only fuches cared. and honestly, it wouldve been better if he didnt.

Every time I rewatch some episode of Boueibu HK I wonder again how the staff even planned this season. Like. Almost nothing meaningful happens with the characters
TLDR the characters with the most developement in HK are the monsters
Kyoutarou is there as a complete contrast to Yumoto while keeping the battle speeches so his characterization doesn't make much sense. Nanao is mere fujoshi bait. Taiju and Taishi have random bits of dialogue that hint at possible arcs for s2 but not enough to tell us what it really is. Maasa has an unfinished arc in his episode, where supposedly he's putting fatty butter in his cookies to make everyone else overweight because he resents Ichiro not defending him when they were little, but then his friends tell him it's fine and then he can move on??? This would work with Ichiro's theme of not wanting to be immature or dense anymore, except they only ever used this theme as a gag (misunderstanding the meaning of whatever the others have said) or to straight up humilliate him (ep4) and continue treating him like a stupid baby. At the end of the season Maasa and him have made peace somehow and that's it. Ata gets in my opinion the closest thing to a complete arc, even if it's just staring angrily at Kyoutarou for ten episodes, then explaining his problem while fighting him and finally getting his apology and reconcilliation. At least it's something. And poor Ryouma is just there to be the butt of a few jokes about how he lets Nanao and Kyoutarou use him, be in a couple of cute shippy scenes, and also for Ata to completely dismiss him from the flashbacks to the point where if they had first met in high school nothing would've changed.
The relationships barely have developement either. Love had anime episodes and manga chapters dedicated to the different close friendships solving their conflicts and becoming closer. There were also many instances of seeing how close the Hakone brothers-defense club and Beppu brothers' relationships were, and even though they didn't have any conflict between themselves, they made them strong sides for the final fight. Yumoto didn't get a character arc but through the entire anime he was revealed to be strong, considerate, forgiving and mature, willing to kindly befriend the Beppu twins for his brother but not let them walk all over him; contrary to how he was presented in the first episodes, like a stereotypical magical girl protagonist. Anyway in HK there's no meaningful conflict between any of them besides Kyoutarou and Ata. Taishi and Ichiro argue constantly but don't show to genuinely like each other after all like IoRyuu or EnAtsu did. Ichiro and Maasa never make any progress to be together again, Maasa hints once at liking Taishi and nothing comes from it, and Nanao and Taiju have the most artificial friendship in the cast that I just do not understand. They just ran an ice cream shop once with again unexplained success and make sassy remarks at each other ever since. And I guess Karurusu and Furanui had a bit of developement thanks to Kyou and Ata in ep12. Idk about the aliens, this time it's like they didn't do it completely well but also not as bad as with the rest of the cast. Maybe bc they didn't appear as much as the humans in most of the episodes
I'm realizing now that a few of these complaints are related to Nanao acting weird
Idk where to put this but I'd like to point out Kinshiro's principles of halting the fight with the Battle Lovers as soon as he finds out that the s1 conflict was set up for a reality show and actively defending them from an attack because they're Binan students, despite still not having received his apology from Atsushi. Ata might've done the same if the HK finale's events had gone in the same order (travelling to Honyalaland to fight Wao, then Kyoutarou apologizing to Ata), but he doesn't feel as a character as deep as Kinshiro in that sense bc they didn't really show him to be in other ways.
Love feels more like an actual group of people while HK feels like they were filling in friendship group roles or something

Wake up brain is back with more lee!Punz! :D
So I had this image, of (cc!s btw) Sam sitting on Punz’s hips, pinning his hands with his knees, and pressing the left side of his face into the carpet. Sam has one of Sylvee's softest make up brushes and is having the time of his life using it all over Punz's ears, jawline and face. Feeling him kick behind him, watching his nose scrunch when he'd target his nose. He'd occasionally grab his jaw and turn him to the other side so they got equal treatment, if Punz managed to shake his head out of Sam's grip he'd let out a surprised and 'offended' gasp and he'd snatch one of his flailing legs, pulling it so when he leaned back it was slightly infront of him, and ruthlessly attacking his knees, both over and under, yelling of his "tortured screams" to put his head back where he had it. And as punishment he'd go back to his ears and add his tickly scalp and make him say things like "Say 'Sam, I want you to tickle my *spot name*" or "Say I'm the best tickler and I'm your favorite, say it nice and loud so Sapnap and Dream hear you"
my bb punz!!!!!! n while I'm not super familiar with Sam, he is such a big sweetheart from what I've seen from him....
that being said i also saw his tweet about how bad and george had to use both hands to fit around his biceps so........,,,,,,., 🫠
this position is top tier normally but with the addition of sam holding Punz's head against the carpet, keeping it from moving so he just has to endure all the tks sam wants to dish out, it makes it that much more flustering
the makeup brushes idea on punz's face is so evil, i feel like he's really sensitive to light tks and this would absolutely destroy him. i think punz has a sensitive jawline, and i honestly think it's stubble would help the makeup brush do its job of tkling him silly. and the nose scrunching?!?!?! bc he's getting tkled on his tkly lil tklish nose!!! and pushing his head the opposite way to give his opposite ear the same treatment!!
but when punz shakes his head away from sam he does this huuuuuuge gasp, acting so offended and stunned at the idea of punz trying to escape the tks!! so he starts to get ruthless, he goes to his knees, a very known death spot for punz, and he's just howling. wailing. crying out any protests and pleads he can think of. and when sam hears that, he just chuckles and continues to tk him ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
he could pull out one of those headscratchers and use it on punz's scalp! who knows where he'd get it from, but it could happen AND punz would be so weak to it!!
and oh my gosh the teases 🫠 not only is being made to say those things incredibly flustering and embarrassing, but to have those people in earshot?!?!?! i cannot imagine rip punz u will be missed 😵‍💫
