So, I need to talk about why Worf and Jadzia Dax are one of the best couples in all of pop culture but to do that I need to lay the groundwork of explaining some trends that the writers of Deep Space 9 completely avoid.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way but for me I find that popular culture has a crippling inability to write couples in stable relationships. It's a problem not just in genre fiction but even into the broader culture. Whether it's rom-coms, fantasy novels, sci-fi TV or superheroes movies you have writers who are very interested in a couple falling in love and trying to win each other but then seem to lose interest after think.
Think about this way, we've all seen plenty of movies where a couple spend the whole movie trying to get together and it ends with them together. But how many films have you seen where the main love interests are in an established steady relationship? Married? Engaged? Hell, have even been dating long term?? It's rare, I can't tell whether most writers are just more interested in couples getting together than staying together or if writers don't think that audiences would be as interested in a stable couple navigating their relationship.
This is what leads to writers breaking up couples in shows or in movie sequels. They set up a couple, spend a lot of time getting them together, but then once they get them together they don't know what to do with them so they either break them up through contrived means or they kill one of them.
As someone who's been in a happy steady relationship for some time and is also a writer I can tell you first hand that this stems entirely from a lack of imagination. There are so many stories you can tell with couples in long term relationships that you can't tell with couple trying to get together. Shrek 2, The Mummy Returns, the Thin Man films and a few other examples demonstrate all the narrative potential that it feels like most writers waste.
The relationship between Worf and Jadzia Dax feels like the best proof I've seen in a long long time. The writers of Deep Space 9 use the format of episodic television to truly flesh put their relationship. We see them start as friends, see them realize how much they have in common, see it get more serious, see them commit to getting married, get married and for half a glorious season we see them live as a married couple. We see them fight but navigate it, we see them balance professional responsibilities with their devotion to each other, we see them figure out what a future together looks like and we see their love never waver, but mature.
The best example of this is the season six episode 'Change of Heart'. It's not only one of the most romantic episodes of anything I've ever seen but it's one of the most romantic things I've seen period. So much of the episode is just us spending time with the couple and letting their natural chemistry sparkle. So that when the plot stuff does happen you are INVESTED. And Worf's whole bedside monologue where he talks about how he realized that if Jadzia was ever in danger he would put the Galaxy at risk to save her? I was IN TEARS!!!
It's the kind of mature storytelling that I WISH we could see more of. Instead of contriving ways to break up your romantic couples to start them all over again it's so much interesting to try and figure out what their lives together look like and what kinds of conflicts or stories are unique to couples that you can't tell otherwise.

what i really liked about the culling game was how apocalyptic it all seemed like in the very beginning when itadori clapped once and the curse rocketed out of the water. the idea that they were all surviving this kind of post-apocalyptic japan. it disappointed me a lot when that didnt remain the vibe of the rest of the arc. then it just became too boring with seemingly aimless fights

if young royals season 2 has a million fans i'm one of them. if young royals season 2 has ten fans, then i am one of them. if young royals season 2 has only one fan then that is me. if young royals season 2 has no fans, then that means i am no longer on earth. if the world is against young royals season 2 then i am against the world
#i just felt the need to make this meme lmao#i love season 2 so much like i'm hyperfixaxing specifically on that one#season one is beautiful and great obviously and has a certain magic to it and i get why so many love that season#but maybe bc there was so much hype around that first season i wanna give some love to season 2#people who didn't like s2: i'm so sorry you didn't get it#and who complain about the lack of wilmon intimacy scenes and how much we get of sara and august: die mad about it i guess#no literally you didn't get it#i personally love to see wilhelm and simon separately and see them make mistakes and pine after one another#i also love their not so sweet moments when we get fights between them - both scenes in ep 5 of both seasons - they're so good#painful but necessary and they're also so good at those moments when they're not being tender and happy with each other#the conflict and arguments aren't cheap and annoying how it often can be in shows to create drama between a couple#but that's not the case with them and when it's actually important and necessary i love conflict#bc we're coming out on the other side then#it's about the growth#all the conflict was so important this season so we could get to that ending#alright that just went a little into another direction#anyway that doesn't mean you can't prefer season 1 but objectively s2 is at least just as good#maybe i'm biased bc i didn't get obsessed with yr until after s2 came out and basically binged them both together#and wasn't immediately into the show when s1 came out like almost everyone else seemed to be#young royals#yrtalk

do u guys know that tweet or post or whichever that talks abt how one day u just kind of wake up and stop having an ed. bc that’s like so wildly accurate for me like a couple weeks ago i just decided that the stomach pains and lack of nutrients was NOT it anymore and started eating protein and going to the gym and started counting calories to make sure i’m actually eating enough and ive literally never felt better… even just after a couple weeks of trying to eat what my body needs and not what my ed wants have made me feel so much happier and healthier and more beautiful.

I'm making a incredibly fucking thorough "which TAZ:B character are you" uQuiz (I am not nearly CLOSE to done though, I've basically just started and also have no idea if I'll even be able to finish it ever) but like. Griffin. Griffin why do you make so many npcs. There's like 300 of these fucking guys to have as result options. Do you know how long and drawn out this quiz is going to have to be to provide accurate results. I'm in hell (affectionate) (this is coming from someone who ALSO makes obscene amounts of characters for their projects I promise this is affectionate)

I've finished.
After *wanting* to watch this show since I was a kid and discovering Next Generation, putting it off all through college so I could give it my full attention and then watching for over three years I have finally finished Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
I confess not much of a television fan, at least not as much as I am a novel or film enthusiast. Television for me occupies a category of media like video games where the time commitment doesn't quite align with the potential gains. I've watched plenty of bad movies or read bad books, brushed them off, and moved on. But bad shows feel like more of a waste, they feel to me like I've lost something more that I can't quite brush off as easily.
But watching a series as good as DS9 is a reminder of the flip side, a bad show feels like more of a loss but there's nothing quite like finishing a really good show. Not only is DS9 good, but it's a good example of television as a medium. DS9 could only ever be a TV show and it makes the most out of the narrative potential unique to television. The best books could only be books, the best cinema could only be cinema and the best television could only be television.
It helps that of all the Star Trek shows I've seen DS9 has the best ending because it *feels* like an ending. The conclusion to numerous plot threads, character arcs but also the chance to look back on the journey and to really savor the sweet melancholy of farewell. It feels like the ending we get is the ending that was planned from the beginning and that we have been building towards over time.
"To the best crew any captain ever had! This may be the last time we're all together. But no matter what the future holds, no matter how far we travel, a part of us, a very important part, will always remain here, on Deep Space 9."
😭😭😭💜💜💜

Doctor Who rant, feel free to ignore lol
Doctor Who always gets real bad when it tries to do “plot” stuff. I like it better as a weekly adventure show, that seems to be its strong suit. I just don’t understand how anyone could have liked the past few seasons. Jodie Whittaker deserved so much better than to be part of probably what is the worst written part of DW.
It’s like they literally went out of their way to ruin anything that made DW interesting and compelling by trying to add weird, stupid, kind of “chosen one” story. The best part of The Doctor is that they’re just a person - and also an almost immortal alien lol, but just a person, it could be anyone with that box, The Doctor isn’t supposed to be super important and stuff. That kinda feels like where DW fails the most, is trying to make The Doctor to be some kind of incredible superhero or something as opposed to a person who just gets into adventures with their friends.
That’s why these last few seasons were just so much worse. And it sucks even more because so many chuds and idiots are going to blame it on The Doctor being a woman or something like that, as opposed to a complete destruction of the character and their backstory. I wonder how in the world they’ll fix it, I don’t know if they even can.

The only reason why I didn't lash out against him last time was because of the annoying things that could come as a consequence of my actions.
Moreover, if he really wanted to, he could use some of his influence to directly affect my parent's guild.
But if that were to happen...
Let's just say I knew many ways to get rid of some stray dogs that didn't know their place. Though, at the expense of some dire consequence that I don't want to go through.
Let's just hope he's not stupid enough to push me there...
Well damn?? That came out of nowhere, what the hell, man? I thought you were a writer bro T^T
