when i was in third grade i saw kung fu panda and was so inspired by its profound theme of believing that i wrote a 153 page original novel (it was exactly this length because i pulled out a book at the library that was 153 pages and was like OK so books of this length can get published therefore it's good luck if I make mine the exact same length) that i tried to get published by emailing the draft to the harper collins customer support email and saying in the email body something equivalent to 'im 10 please publish me' and this is because i wanted to defeat nancy yi fan the person who had published swordbird at age 12. anyway thats why the kung fu panda residue and also i watched the movie every day for weeks after i first saw it. i hope this story proves to you how normal of a person i am

10, 27, 37, 44, 45?
10. Favorite classical literature.
i am woefully underread of classical literature though i did love the odyessey when i read it in school!! also a huge fan of anne carson's orestia translation, if that counts
27. What was the first book you remember reading as a kid?
ZINK by cherie bennett!!!! i read that book sooooo many times as a kid. deeply beautiful book about a kid dying of leukemia and coping with it. literally ends with her dying. such fond memories of that book
37. The only example of your least favorite trope being written in such a way that you enjoyed it.
i am not a zombie apocalypse guy like, At All (i am extremely picky about apocalypse stories on a good day, and zombies almost never land) but i do really love world war z max brooks. really neat historical framing. interested in a wide swath of the way something like that would change the world and often produces really neat answers out of those questions
44. The book(s) whose stories have become part of your very makeup.
oh man.....griffin and sabine series by nick bantock (this series remains absolutely integral to the way im writing signal to noise and i first read it when i was like. 12), swordbird by nancy yi fan, every heart a doorway by seanan mcguire, i robot asimov (which i didnt like as much on a reread, but influential regardless), isabel of the whales hester velman....
45. What book(s) would you sell your soul to get a TV or movie adaptation of?
now that im thinking of swordbird i would really love a swordbird + swordquest movie.....itd be so cute as like a classic 2d animated movie....the martian is one of my favorite movies and if they could do something at that same level for project hail mary id be absolutely thrilled tbh

I've come to realize, why do they always portray Alicent as brunette? She was confused as Saera by Jahaerys, and she had typical Targaryen traits. The Hightowers are also rumored to be descendants of the Empire of the Dawn, who I believe might have also had Valyrian features? (actually, if anything, Valyrians would have EoTD's features as it predates it)
When it comes to fandom, I think interest in Alicent started after we were already getting official art that depicted her as a brunette/dark haired, so fandom's rolled with it ever since. When it comes to official portrayals, given that we know George has had some input in official art, it's likely that it came directly from the horse's mouth, likely because "blonde vs brunette" is a tried and true trope of rivalries (Betty and Veronica, Tonya and Nancy, etc).
I think Jahaerys was confusing her with Saera because of the fact that Alicent was just a young woman similar in age to Saera and he missed her/regretted their rift, so that's likely what that was, rather than physical similarities in hair and eye color (and even if they did look similar, it could be in things like facial features, not necessarily coloring). I don't necessarily think that the Empire of the Dawn and the Valyrian Freehold shared common ancestors or are offshoots of each other, because while they might have coexisted (I don't remember the specifics but the fall of the Empire of the Dawn coincides with the end of the Long Night, and I don't think Valyria is ever mentioned as having had anything to do with that or being affected by it at all, even back in its infancy, so even coexisting is a big if), there's no evidence of their co-mingling, or of shared features. It's pretty easy to see that George made Leng, the Empire of the Dawn, and then the Golden Empire of Yi-Ti to be analogous to ancient/medieval/Imperial China, and in official art people from that region are generally portrayed as having East Asian features, which the Valyrians are not described as having, nor is anyone in Westeros either described as or portrayed in official art as having any sort of Chinese or East Asian characteristics. (I know George has said he's tossed around the "what if" scenario of having made the Targaryens, and Valyrians by association, people of color, but I think that's just him thinking back on old possibilities, not telling us that it's canon).
I know that there's in world speculation that the Hightowers, generally thought of as having been in Westeros since "the dawn of days" and therefore of First Men descent, might actually have ancestors who came to Westeros before the First Men, possibly from the West, which I do find interesting. And I know that modern Hightowers have been described as looking like Targaryens or other Valyrians, such Lynesse looking like Dany and Alerie being described as silver haired despite only being in her late thirties/early forties, but there doesn't seem to be anything about the Empire of the Dawn in particular, or any confirmation beyond fans noticing things that Hightowers are meant to share similarities to Targaryens or that Alicent might have had Targaryen features.
I do personally like Alicent as a brunette tho, mostly because it makes it very funny that Alicent's legitimate Targaryen children still have silver hair while Rhaenyra managed to bungle it so very hard that all of her kids by "Laenor" look nothing like either of their Valyrian parents.

Books I Haven’t Read/Finished Yet But I Want To
Hello again!
From my last post about animal book recs, I noticed a LOT of people mentioning other books I missed. In that post, I included books/series I’ve already read, and the suggestions you guys have given sound awesome and I can’t wait to read/finish them!
In the same vein, I wanted to share some books/series that I’m either currently reading or want to read and why I’m excited.
1. Guardians of GaHoole/Wolves of The Beyond/Bears of the Ice - Kathryn Lasky
Tumblr media
A lot of you suggested Guardians and TRUST ME, I’m right on the same page! I actually own the entire series and a few one-shots I have yet to read. The thing is, I am an INSANELY SLOW reader. I have a bit of dyslexia and ADHD so reading is actually pretty hard at times, even for books so short. I usually listen to audiobooks because it gives me the freedom to occupy my hands while “reading” (also helps pass the time while I work/drive). GoG only has the first 3 or 4 books on audio, so it’s been a while working through all 15. I’m on “Exile” right now so I’m aaaaaalmost there!
There are, however, audiobooks for Wolves of the Beyond and Bears of The Ice, so I’m mostly caught up there. I recently cancelled my Audible subscription for money reasons so I’ve had to drop WotB until I can get it from my library.
I really REALLY encourage you guys to read the two spin-offs of GoG if you haven’t. I feel like those two series get forgotten because GoG is “over”, but these series actually continue the series in a way, albeit peripherally. And they’re just as good! I love all three series a lot and I’ll definitely come back here after I’ve FINALLY finished GoG.
 2. Swordbird - Nancy Yi Fan
Tumblr media
I don’t see a lot of hype for this series and honestly there should be! Nancy Yi Fan was the youngest published author, 14, at the time of Swordbird’s publishing. So far, it’s Redwall with birds, and I’m loving it! I love birds very much, and I’m excited to see where this goes!
This book is important to me because I remember reading about Nancy Yi Fan and her accomplishments when I was about 11 and wanting to be just like her. Not to get too dramatic, but I’ve struggled with writing/grammar for a long time (again, Dyslexia and ADHD) and was told by a particularly awful teacher that I’d never write anything of value. Nancy Y Fan’s accomplishments made me feel otherwise and I really think she was the start of me working past my disabilities to write stories. I still write as an adult and I’m hoping to be published someday, and I’ll always think back to Swordbird.
It’s a shame I haven’t read it yet. It was never in any libraries and I only just recently learned it was on Kindle and I was really excited! Life gets in the way, but I really am trying to read it. I hope Yi Fan is still writing and it would be really cool to meet her one day and thank her.
3. The Wild Road - Gabriel King
Tumblr media
Oh, look! More cats! After Tailchaser’s Song I was itching for more Warriors-esque books, and I’ve been told The Wild Road fits the bill! Also, Richard Adams liked it, so I have high hopes.
I had to buy this book also because no libraries had it again. It’s really a shame, but what can you do. I get kind of hesitant to buy books I haven’t read at all because I’ve been duped before by what I thought was a good book. Also, Im poor.
Anyway, so far I like this one! It’s a series so I hope it holds up as it goes.
4. Catamount - Micheal Peak
Tumblr media
Another unusual animal protag book! Sadly, I don’t own this one or seen it in a library. It’s been sitting in my Goodreads list for sometime, but I’m excited to find it! It gives me The Rescuers: Down Under vibe for some reason, its probably the eagle.
5. Dragon of the Lost Sea - Laurence Yep
Tumblr media
Oh boy, I’m gonna get passionate again.
Lemme preface this by saying I have read this book, but only NOW did I learn that it’s part of a series.
Look, EVERYONE knows Laurence Yep. He’s a prolific author. You probably had to read a work of his in school. Which is why its breaks my heart to know that this book series not ONLY has no audiobook or even e-book exists, but physical copies are REALLY hard to find. I recently tracked down one on Amazon and they were out of stock.
I wasn’t even sure that I didn’t dream this book up for YEARS. When I was in middle school, I remember picking this book up in my school’s media center. That is the ONLY place I’ve EVER seen this book in person. I fucking loved this book. After a while, though, I forgot the title and for a bit I thought I had just made it up. This series is almost NEVER mentioned when looking up Laurence Yep, and this book is awesome!
So, wish me luck tracking down the rest of this series, its kind of become my life’s work, ngl. I’ve considered calling up my old middle school to see if I can buy their copy off them.
6. The Named - Clare Bell
Tumblr media
Shout out to @climbdraws for reminding me that this series existed! If you haven’t seen their fan art for the series, go check it out!
I swear I saw this in a Borders years ago, forgot the name, and had a mindblowing epiphany when Climb mentioned it some 6-ish years later.
If you guys don’t know, I like prehistoric creatures A LOT. The Named, I think, is about prehistoric Cheetahs or some similar cat. I recently bought the first book and I’m really looking forward to it!
7. Silverhair - Stephen Baxter
Tumblr media
More prehistoric animals! Also another book that I haven’t found yet. It’s always out of stock when I check Amazon (as of writing I just learned that this is at my local library but I’m moving to another state in less than a week so SHIT).
8. Song of The Summer King - Jess E. Owen
Tumblr media
Y’know what I love more than prehistoric animals? GRIFFINS! Oooooh, do I love griffins! I literally cannot tell you how much I WISH there were more griffin books. Dragons are great, but they need to take a rest and let Griffins have the spotlight for a bit (I’m also writing a book about Griffins hint hint hint).
I have this one on Kindle and I’m working through it. It’s a series too, so hooray!
That’s all I got so far. I’m always open to suggestions, it’ll just take me a long ass time to read them.

Hi Queen❤️ Can you make a ‘What we know (or think we know) so far about season 3’ post ?! There’s so much info and it’s so unorganized in my brain. Help 🥺💋
Hi, there!
Let me start by saying that I mostly kept this to information we’ve been given and tried to stay away from too many theories because this post got long. Because of that, I’m actually going to put everything I can find under a read more/keep reading tab. (Although that being said, I’m always happy to answer asks about theories, I just wanted to keep this post from becoming a ridiculous length).
There’s actually been a ton of information about Good Girls season 3 so far (albeit, some of it vague haha) so I’m sure I’ve missed some things. Saying that, I recommend checking out @pynkhues‘ blog (which I’m sure you have), particularly this tag for extra details and discussions as well as info I might have missed (I find Sophie often posts about, reblogs, or is sent asks regarding details of season 3 quite regularly, ha).
The Good Girls tag on here is also great to check out as well as any official social media accounts for the show as well as cast and crew. To be honest, a lot of behind the scenes stuff is posted to IG stories which delete after 24 hours and I find they’re not always captured in time to find elsewhere.
Anyway, everything below is split into sections and there are sources provided (said sources will potentially give extra information on top of what I’ve put!) I really hope this is organised enough for you and it’s not everything but I hope it’s what you were looking for! ^_^
Firstly, there’s this spoiler post that was made but if you don’t like spoilers and just want ‘official’ information that is announced on socials and through blog articles, I’d recommend skipping it :)
The basics:
We got an official release date: February 16th 2020 (source)
We’re getting 16 episodes this season (source)
Saying that, they’re potentially filming right through till March (source). As of right now, we’ve definitely got about 7 episodes done in terms of table reads (and filming too I think?).
We got the titles for the first 3 episodes (source) and due to IG stories we know episode 7 is called, “Vegas, Baby!”
Information about previous cast members (not including the obvious, ha):
Basically every kid on the show has been photographed on set including David Miranda who plays Marcus (a lot of the kids have instagram and you’ll see a ton of sources there).
It’s possible Jessica Walter will be back as Judith (source)
Sally Pressman is back as Nancy (source)
I don’t think it’s been confirmed if Zach Gilford is back as Greg but if Nancy is back, I’m assuming he’ll at least make an appearance.
Carlos Aviles is back as one of Rio’s boys (source - he’s also posted in IG stories about it too)
Julian Grant who plays JT (the Quick Cash guy) is set to return for at least 3x01 according to IMDb (source)
Sam Huntington doesn’t seem to be coming back for season 3 (source - his thank you tweet after season 2 finished).
Allison Tolman is playing the lead in the show Emergence so probably won’t return for this season (I guess it depends on schedule but I doubt it).
New cast members:
Charlyne Yi was cast as the fourth good girl Lucy who was hinted at at the end of season 2 and was also teased in interviews with Jenna Bans (source)
Jackie Cruz was cast a Rhea (source) and while that source revealed that Rhea was going to become friends with Beth we now have information as to who else she’s connected to as well as first look pictures of both Rhea and Beth in season 3 (source - if you don’t want to be spoiled, I wouldn’t recommend checking that source)
Ione Skye was cast as Gayle who works with Dean at his new job at a hot tub store (source) and Ione has made a couple of instagram posts like this one and this one. And I also want to say she made some IG stories but they only last 24 hours so I can’t link any, ha.
Noureen Dewulf was cast as Krystal (source) - she’s also posted a few IG stories in the past which confirmed her character’s name and also showed her on set with various people but mainly Reno Wilson bringing about the idea that Krystal will be connected to stan.
Wesley Kimmel was cast as Tim (source) and there’s really no information about him that I’ve noticed but he’s often seen with the other kids in photos (mainly the Bolands) and a lot of people have pointed out he looks like Matthew Lillard so there’s speculation he’ll be connected to them (the other theory is that he’s Gayle’s son).
Brent Jeremiah was cast a Thug #2 lmao (source) but the interesting thing is that he actually mentioned working with Christina which means this ‘thug’ is likely connected to Beth’s journey into crime (whether that be good or bad remains to be seen though).
There was also an IG post about Alex Jayne Go on set or something but I can’t seem to find it, however, she’s listed as ‘Fiona’ in 3x03 on IMDb (source)
Naomi Grossman was cast as Dr Amanda Johnson (source) and her role is only a guest one so I’m not entirely sure how much we’ll see of her.
Megan Thee Stallion has been cast to appear although there’s not really any information on who she’ll be playing and whatnot (source)
Some behind the scenes stuff:
I don’t actually follow him but I’ve heard that Gabe Rodriguez who works on Good Girls often posts a bunch of behind the scenes stuff on his instagram. - I feel like it was him who posted a picture of a strip club or something which added fuel to the fire of Krystal being a stripper or something along those lines, ha.
Christina, Mae, and Retta were filming in a graveyard at one point (source) and Carlos Aviles also posted about the same set on his IG stories (source) so most likely Manny/Rio is involved in those scenes too.
There’s a printing press this season (source) and (I think) it was confirmed that Beth and co will be working with cards as part of their business (in 3x01 on IMDb there’s a listing for ‘young card customer’) and there was a photo floating around where you see the sign: “Paper Porcupine” in the background.
I’m 90% sure it was seen in slightly more HD versions of these photos which were actually some of the first we got of Manny/Rio on set, ha.
In some IG stories, Reno mentioned he couldn’t show his face because of spoilers which I’m guessing means either a) Stan is injured or b) his outfit gives something big away about his storyline.
Whenever the cast have posted pictures that show Manny onset (whether it be for table reads or filming) those posts are usually promptly deleted (like this one) meaning that the show is still trying to keep his fate ambiguous, most likely wanting to make his return a big surprise for fans who haven’t quite figured out he’s coming back.
Everleigh (Jane) and David (Marcus) are often photographed together and its probably cause they’re close in age and friends but there’s a high chance we’ll see Jane and Marcus become friends in season 3 (it also seems that Marcus will just be in this season a lot more than season 2 in general).
There’s this photo of Jackie, Christina, and Mae which could mean nothing but we know Rhea and Beth will have scenes together but, considering that photos was from September, I wonder if Annie (and Ruby) will meet Rhea pretty early on and share scenes with her, aha.

carnegie: what authors and/or books/stories have inspired you to write or influenced your work?
Genre wise it would be Neil Gaiman and Gerald Durrel. Other authors that inspire me to simply write are Terry Pratchett and Frederick Backman.
One of the most influential books that inspired me to write was Swordbird by Nancy Yi Fan who write it when she was only 13 and was the reason I started taking my writing more seriously.
Thank you so much for the ask !

Their fandom name is ONCE and their leader is Jihyo. Me and Paul loves this group because of their songs and personalities <3 My bias here is TZUYU! <3 because she’s the tall maknae of the group! Meaning, she’s the youngest and tallest in the group! LIKE ME! (She’s 19 years old. The oldest is Nayeon who is 23 years old) She’s cute, sweet, kind, clumsy has a very perfect posture! (Like me! But not the perfect posture XD) Paul on the other hand, his bias is Sana cuz she’s cute, beautiful. kind and clumsy XD well I think all of them are cute sweet, kind and has their clumsy or perfect posture style :)

Just last week, BTS became the first Korean band to perform live at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.” (Allyson Chiu. May 29, 2018. The Washinton Post). I discovered BTS because of mah die hard Army friend XD then Paul discovered BTS because of thier popularity and because of it, we always watch them on Youtube T^T (we watch all of te kpop groups that are mentioned here in youtube becuz we can’t afford to go to concerts or in their country T^T). But Kris left the group on May 2014. Following Luhan who left on October 10 2014 and then Tao on August 2015. We don’t really know the reasons why they left so please search it if you want to know because We don’t wanna speak about something if we don’t really know or have any or enough information about it. Even though there are 9 members left, they stil catch the hearts of women! Their fandom name is EXO-L and their leader is Suho. I’m not an avid fan of EXO but I love them all (their songs and choreos). I don’t have any particular or specific bias. But Paul here said that he loves EXO because of their choreography and style. They were famous her ein the Philippines and also a particular member who is Nancy because she looks like Liza Soberano. I love them all! My bias here is Felix because of his DEEP VOICE AND AUSSIE ACCENT! Bang Chan also has an Aussie Accent because they’re both from Australia. Bong Joon-ho's PARASITE Has a Badass Night at The Oscars and Makes History; Here's The Full List of Winners
Tumblr media
Director Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite was one of my favorite films of the year. I saw the movie multiple times in theaters. Every time someone would tell me they hadn’t seen it yet, I would drag them to the theater to watch it and they would leave walk out of the movie in awe.
Parasite had one hell of a great night at the Oscars as it took home four awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. This is the first South Korean film to be nominated, and the first time a film has won awards for Best Picture and Best International Film. I couldn’t be happier to see this film make Oscar history! All the awards it won were completely deserved.
While I don’t really care about watching the Oscars these days, and I’m not really a fan of this hostless thing they have going. But, I’m such a big fan of South Korean cinema, and it was really great to see such a brilliant film like Parasite be recognized the way it was.
Most every other win at the Oscars was pretty predictable, but I was honestly shocked by what Parasite accomplished! I did not see this coming, so it was a great surprise that made watching the Oscars worth it.

“I Want to Write a Book”
“For all the other kids out there who want to pursue their dreams, follow your dreams. Truly nothing is impossible.” – Nancy Yi Fan
I want to write a book!
I have had that thought for as far back as I can remember, but most distinctly since I was 12 years old and I read a book written by someone even younger than me. I don’t even remember what the story was about, except that the characters were birds – I liked that part. What I do remember is turning to the back cover and seeing a picture of the author, eleven-year-old Nancy Yi Fan.
That someone younger than me wrote a real book and published it was absolutely amazing to 12-year-old me. That was the first time I thought I want to do that, quickly followed by If she could do it, so could I.
And the desire stayed with me, though my self-imposed deadline to do so before I became “grown-up” went unheeded. But hey, everything happens in its own time.
Maybe I needed to be grown up first.
So I grew up and my story went unwritten, though my love of both reading and writing didn’t dim. I was known all through high school for being the girl with a book, always reading; people would borrow books from me rather than the library. And while I have always had an interest in writing, it was never something I actively pursued.
That carried into university where I lived with a nagging uncertainty that resulted in the persistent feeling that the people around me must know more than I do. Yet when doing group assignments through University, I would volunteer to do the final editing – to have all the group members send their part of the assignment to me to be put together. I had seen so many examples of work that may have been well researched, but so poorly put together that the group would have lost the grade for grammar alone. I would take the disconnected pieces of the project read through and edit so that it sounded not only like coherent English, but as though it had been written by one person.
I could write. I had a grasp of the written language and could get thoughts across on paper in a way that would be easily understood (far better than I’m able to with spoken words).
I have had people tell me before, when I shared little written anecdotes of things that happened to me, that I should write a book. In university, I began writing fan fiction stories about my favourite TV show from the perspective of my own original characters and honestly I amazed myself with the array of distinct characters I was able to come up with. I fell in love with them. My fan fiction received good reviews, some saying that they felt they were there in the story with the characters. But still, this was just a fun hobby.
Until around my last birthday when I showed her a few of my reviews, my sister said to me “Why don’t you take any of these things you’re writing and publish them?”
And that was it, right there.
That was the nudge I needed to revive that feeling I had at age 12, to say “I am going to be an author” and mean it. I made the decision that I was going to write a book, my own original story, and I was going to do it before my next birthday.
So October 7, 2019 is now the deadline for the first draft of my book.

Art F City: This Week’s Must-See Art Events: Patriarchy-Smashing in Full Force
Pelenakeke Brown’s eerie self-portraits open Wednesday night at ORA Gallery.
So far, 2017 might be one of the shittiest years in recent decades for the women of America, but New York’s art world is making sure this will be a Women’s History Month to remember. On Thursday, the New Museum is even hosting a talk on Feminist topics we haven’t even heard of: A.K. Burns will be leading a discussion on “Quantum Feminism”. That same night, Van DebEd is hosting Women’s History Month Invitational in Long Island City.
Kick the weekend off playing artist-designed Feminist games at Bushwick’s SOHO20 Gallery Friday night. Saturday, Laurie Simmons and Carroll Dunham will discuss feminist icon Marilyn Minter’s show at the Brooklyn Museum. After a week of edifying female-empowering events, head to Interference Archive’s Sunday afternoon Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to make sure it all goes down in herstory.

Tra Bouscaren & John Schlesinger: Dear Volunteers
It’s usually a turn-off when artwork claims it “implicates the viewer back into what they have arrived to judge.” Tra Bouscaren and John Schlesinger’s multi-media installation, however, sounds so seductively post-apocalyptic that can be overlooked. The duo use video mapping, laboratory detritus, construction rubble and more to form environments that I’m imagining will look a bit like the surface of “the desert of the real” from The Matrix. Timely.

Pelenakeke Brown: Reasoning On Paper; The Myth Of Herself
For this series, Pelenakeke Brown drew daily self portraits as she grew out her hair. They’re a little creepy, as she’s left out any other signifiers of identity (facial features, etc…). As the exercise grew, the series took on new meaning as a meditation on gender and self-representation. Her attention to (and omission) of details makes these memorable and slightly uncanny.

The Question of Quantum Feminism
“Quantum Feminism” is a concept that’s so new and/or obscure it doesn’t have it’s own Wikipedia page (take note, those participating in this week’s edit-a-thon!) Confession: I know this because I just had to Google it.
This talk’s organizers describe a discussion about “an understanding of bodies as sensory systems can be a starting point for discussions around ethics and ‘entangled relations of difference’.” I’m sure we’ll all have a better understanding of QF after this roundtable discussion, which includes A.K. Burns, Harry Dodge, Carolyn Lazard, Anicka Yi, and Constantina Zavitsano.

Women’s History Month Invitational
For this year’s Women’s History Month Invitational, curators Marjorie Van Dyke and Deborah Freedman have taken an unexpected route: most of the artists here make cheery abstract paintings. That’s nothing new, of course, but it’s refreshingly outside the usual (bizarrely illogical) narrative that abstraction is a man’s game. And importantly, these paintings are good.

The Schizophrenic Bomb: Richard Tyler and the Uranian Press
Founded in the 1970s, the LES’s Uranian Phalanstery represented a sorta-New-Age-y art collective with its own singular culture. Founded be veteran Richard Tyler, his wife Dorothea Tyler, and some neighbors/friends, the Uranians produced a hell of a lot of printed material.
This includes prints from woodblock to xerox, letters, editioned art books, and so much more. Expect to lose hours digging through one very weird archive.

Game Night #6: Feminist Politics
What exactly is a feminist game night? Probably more fun than most would expect. The night features games designed by Rebecca Goyette, Desiree Des, and Željka Blakšić.
I’m hoping it’s something like the board game “Don’t Wake Daddy!” but more along the lines of “Get Woke! The Patriarchy!”
Sat

Artist's Eye: Laurie Simmons and Carroll Dunham on Marilyn Minter
We can’t gush enough about Marilyn Minter’s show Pretty/Dirty at the Brooklyn Museum. (Actually, Paddy got to check it out in Denver before the show traveled to NYC.) Now, we get to hear two other greats gush about Marilyn Minter. Laurie Simmons and Carroll Dunham will have a conversation in response to the show. This is definitely one of the week’s highlights.
Smack Mellon
92 Plymouth Street Brooklyn, NY 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.Website
Linda Herritt: Grease Rust Soot Sweat
Linda Herritt’s room-spanning, text-based, mixed-media installations are often the products of researching “lists” of things. Here, she’s turned her attention to Buckminster Fuller’s 1981 “Chronology of Scientific Discoveries and Artifacts.” The publication was a litany of important innovations, spanning centuries of advancements in chemistry and inventions.
Inventions such as steel skyscrapers and the discovery of germ-based medicine will be included alongside guns and hydroelectricity. We’re not sure exactly what this will look like, but we’re told it will “undulate” off the walls of Smack Mellon’s old coal-fired steam furnace.

Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
For whatever reason. only 8.5-16% of Wikipedia editors are women. This means topics related to women’s concerns—from feminist art history to films by female directors—can be overlooked. This Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, happening roughly concurrently with dozens worldwide, hopes to close the gender gap a bit.
Bring a laptop, and even a kid (childcare will be provided, but an RSVP is necessary).

Second Sundays
Conveniently, Red Hook’s Pioneer Works is walking distance from Interference Archive, and their monthly Second Saturdays party is the perfect way to reward yourself after a few hours of performing netizen civic duty. The event features DJs, a performance from Underground System, a CRISPR workshop and more. All for a $10 suggested donation.
Open Studios:
Angel Nevarez/Valerie Tevere Jes Fan Pascual Sisto Evelyn Donnelly SKOTE (Jill Pangallo & Alex P. White)
This is also a prime opportunity to check out E.S.P TV’s epic installation “WORK”, which has reinstalled Pioneer Works’ offices as a functioning television set.

omg swordquest was such a good book. It left me in shambles.
I totes envisioned the protag (wind-voice)--although he’s referred to him/he, he’s read by a female VA and it made me think of him as a transboy and it makes the book so much better. O(--<
