Having an experience with the Nameless Puppet involves...

You're not quite sure why Signor Geppetto called you in to his room alone today. But... here you are, watching the old man remove something from a box, and—

—oh, that's a body. Geppetto is removing a body from the box. You are no longer sure if what you're witnessing is a crime scene. And... things only become more odd when the body starts to move.

The body is held up by glowing strings that come from a gauntlet on Geppetto's hand, but it seems almost lively as it looks from side to side. It moves instinctively into some manner of weapon-wielding pose, though its hands are empty; force of habit, it seems.

You're too shocked to notice the way Geppetto's mumbling something about memories. However, you do notice the way the body starts to... stumble forward. Towards you.

Once... twice... again... You don't try to move away as it (he?) approaches, jerking and twitching; you're too stunned.

And then... his strings are gone. He's reaching towards you with one death-pale, rot-slick hand; and then, another comes.

In the span of an instant, this body - this unfortunate-looking corpse full of metal bits and an exposed heart - is... holding you; one hand cupping your cheek, one arm clumsily draped around your waist.

You don't get a moment to respond. Geppetto's put the strings on him again, muttering bitterly: 'there's still too much of that personality in you.'

The body is hauled away from you on those glowing strings; falls limp once they're disconnected, is placed with a certain amount of care back into that sizeable box.

...and all you can think about is how you were sure you'd seen that exposed heart beat faster as he'd held you; how he'd held you just like your lost love from the Charity House used to hold you, so long ago.

Nameless Puppet (Carlo) was Geppetto's right hand!

I love the idea on this first trailer that Carlo had been used as Geppetto's bodyguard / assassin since the old man alone couldn't fight for sure, so he travelled around seeking for ingredients with Carlo all along.

And I think, actually, if P didn't come to save him, Geppetto would handle Mad Donkey with no problem. He just waited for the right time to release his monstrous son out of the trunk but as we all knew Pino just came interrupting them or else we'd see NP killed Mad Donkey instead!

Oh, and the 'Geppetto's Puppet' that was known well to all stalkers as Black Rabbit Brotherhood called P, I think they didn't mean it's P they were talking about Carlo!

I love this game!

I think one thing I've realized about why Lies of P's ending hits so hard is because it's essentially a test, both of your mechanical skills in the fight against the Nameless Puppet and your understanding of the themes and ideas the game is presenting to you in your choice to give up your heart or not.

Because when the game offers you the choice, it's essentially asking you: Do you trust Gepetto despite all the red flags you've uncovered? Are you going to be obedient and good and follow the rules, even when you've seen the harm and damage that blind obedience can cause? Do you still see yourself as nothing more then a puppet, an object, a vessel, for the 'true' Carlo? And are you willing to give up everything you've gained along the way in service to becoming 'a real boy', or following your maker's (father's) wishes?

Or have you learned to think for yourself? Have you learned to mistrust the good intentions of your supposed creator? Have you learned that the rules are fallible because fallible men made them, and sometimes the right thing is to lie, or to kill, or to disobey? Have you realized that, weather you are Carlo in a new shell or a new creature entirely, your life has value? Do you understand that you don't need to be made 'real', you already are- your pain and your joy and your connections make you real, make you human, regardless of if your heart is clockwork or flesh? That the gift of creation, the gift of humanity, is the ability to say no, to defy, to choose your own path, not just the one your creator (father) laid out for you?

Anyways Lies of P is an amazing videogame and everyone should play it send tumble.
