"Cheer up, Ed. This is not goodbye. It's just I won't ever see you again."
I liked the part with the red cap.
Far from keeping up with its predecessors, this third instalment is a bit sparse on laugh-out-loud moments, and certainly a lot less quotable.
Things do pick up quite a bit in the last act, but even then there is a lot of unrelated cutaway goofs that fail to match the tone of the rest of the movie. There are also a couple of lazy jokes that have aged poorly by modern standards, souring the experience.
Once again, Leslie Nielsen and George Kennedy are the glue that hold the whole movie together. For some reason Nordberg is played as a complete moron this time around, and it felt really out of character and strange.
The villains were not very interesting, and Anna Nicole Smith's character not only seemed completely pointless, but was the butt of a transphobic joke that was easily the worst part of the whole movie. Throw in a couple of racist bits and a gag about prison rape, and you really notice the slip from comedic genius into generic, lazy writing.
Definitely the weakest of the trilogy, but still good for a few laughs.

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult has cameras flashing during a red carpet event. A piece of electrical equipment sparks several times after it falls from a height. A woman shows a man her lingerie, which is covered in flashing, patterned lights.
The motion of the car in the opening sequence is more intense than in previous films, following action on a water slide, a bobsled track, flying through the air, and inside a pinball machine.
Flashing Lights: 4/10. Motion Sickness: 3/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: O.J. Simpson plays a role in this film. A brief gag involves accidental sexual assault. A man spends more than a minute vomiting (unseen) after discovering that a woman is transgender. Some joke topics include homophobia, suicide, human trafficking, and prison rape.

Remembering Fred Ward and Bruce MacVittie
Here’s my combined remembrance to two actors who passed away:
Fred Ward 1942-2022
Tumblr media
Ward and Whoopi Goldberg in The Player
Actor Fred Ward has died at 79. He appeared in a ton of movies, including Jonathan Demme’s Swing Shift. Years later, Ward executive produced and starred in Miami Blues, which Demme produced and George Armitage directed. He worked with Robert Altman on The Player and Short Cuts. Other notable performances included Tremors, Bob Roberts, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, and Road Trip.

The Breeders - The Palace, Los Angeles, California, April 1, 1994
April 1994! Bill Clinton was in the White House, Kurt Cobain was (barely) still alive, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult was in theaters — and I was a freshman in high school, on my way to see The Breeders at the Palace with my pals Ryan and Sean and my older brother Nathan, hurtling towards Hollywood in a Ford Tempo. A momentous occasion, 30 years ago, jeez louise.
I was just talking to Ryan about this show and we both remembered that it was, up to that point, the most high-energy, packed-house, Alternative Nation-style event we'd attended. Previously, we'd seen gigs that were either big arena affairs or mellow sit-down kinda things. This might not've been an insane crowd by any stretch, but there was light moshing and so forth. And the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion opened! We had never heard of them before and let me tell you we were confused. And thrilled! Pretty sure we all went out to get Orange immediately that weekend.
I haven't tracked down a tape of the JSBX set, but I just recently came across this recording of The Breeders' Last Splash-heavy performance that evening. The previous fall, I had fallen heavily under the spell of The Breeders, Frank Black and the Pixies, so getting to see the Deal Sisters was a big deal. And they did not disappoint. Hearing it back all these years later doesn't disappoint, either — though there is some hilarious/cringe-y audience chatter ... the dude being an idiot near the taper is not any of us, I promise you.
