Me: Since Belos wants Hunter dead and Kikimora ordered scouts to raid the Owl House, Kiki must be having the time of her life! The boy she considered her greatest rival is wanted and she’s Belos’ only right hand now! Good for her, after what happened at the Coven Day Parade. She was quite miserable there, but I’m glad that it humanized her too.

The Owl House: Actually, Belos claims to be worried sick for Hunter to seem more sympathetic.

Me: Ah, that makes sense. Well she’s probably annoyed by that but still enjoying herself at the moment.

The Owl House: No, Kiki actually got demoted to a delivery woman for the EC and she’s more miserable than ever. She sees a chance to redeem herself in Belos’ eyes by bringing Hunter to him but “Hunter” is actually Luz under an illusion so, you know, she’s probably running into more trouble in the next episode.

I don’t care if you ship Lunter. I like Huntlow. That’s my opinion. No, im not gonna change it coz you think so. Have your opinion, just don’t go barking at me.

In my OPINION: (see the word opinion)-(you can have ur own)

HUNTLOW/WINTER: bestest ship. Works well. They complete eachother and only have a 1 and 1/2 (approx) age difference, which is pretty normal for teens. My personal favourite. Very cute, fluffy and makes u have the fuzzies. They have a good chance of long lasting relationship.

LUNTER: Lunter would work. Lunter is undeniably a great relationship. Only 2 year age gap (approx), also normal teen age. They go well together. But I headcannon them as siblings. HEADCANNON. So for me, Lunter is sweet home Alabama.

*EDIT: I no longer headcannon Lunter as siblings but I do think they they see each other as siblings.

GUNTER: Look, ship what you want but the age difference is too much for me, 4 years, isn’t a lot, but while in teenage years, it’s a bit weird. Maybe when they’re older, like in their 20’s, but as teens? Not so great. They’re closer to brothers. They would support each other. Good relationship.

HUNTRIC/GOLDRIC: Objectively, there is nothing wrong with it. They’d probably get along super well. Same age. But they haven’t even met. And along with my ‘Luz and Hunter Siblings’ headcannon, it would be a brother-in-law, so also quite incest.

*EDIT: one again, headcannon no longer in use

AMITER: They would fight a bit, both having competitive attitudes and lots and lots of trauma. All the characters have trauma but I think Amity and Hunter as a couple would overthrow the trauma scale. Also I’m a Lumity person, so Amiter just doesn’t work for me.

HUNTLOWDRIC: um. Imma have to go with a no. Nothing wrong with it except the fact: Hunter and Edric have never met, Willow has trauma with Amity despite making it up, dating her brother is a little weird, and again it would all revolve back to the siblings thing.

*EDIT: no sibling thing

SKARA AND/OR VINEY X HUNTER: Both of them would be compatible with him, but I headcannon Viney as Lesbian. Skara, she’d be fine. If Willow didn’t exist she’d probably be what I’d ship Hunter with.

VINEARA: Very goods. I likes. Viney x Skara is good, but not my fav Viney ship. Skara sits with bat boy.

VINEMIRA: Best Viney ship. Viney and Emira. The lebanons. Lesbeans. Lesbiabians. Women lovers. Both headcannoned as lesbiansss.

LUMITY: yes. Shows main ship. Cannon. Works well. Help each other. Just yes.

GUSTHOLOMULE: not a popular ship, but I quite enjoy it. Matt is gay af. I think it’s a cool ship.

See, on the one hand, I feel bad saying season 3 Luz is my "favourite" Luz era, because what I really mean is that I loved how far they were willing to take her character progression and how much of a risk it was to take this incredibly plucky and cheerful protagonist and launch her into full blown depression. I love every era of Luz from her bright, goofy, Paddington Bear-ass presence in season 1, to her still whimsical but fundamentally guilty and stressed progression in season 2, to the kid fighting to just stay alive in season 3, not because of any monsters or baddies or other supernatural threats. But because she genuinely wishes she wasn't alive right now (and they make that as explicit as they can with network restrictions and whatnot).

On the other hand I will never feel bad for calling season 3 Luz my "favorite" Luz era bc toh was brave enough to show it's protag turning (close to) 15 years old and immediately acquiring depression and I've never seen anything that's felt more true to my life. She Is My Holden Caufield

I know you love The dragon prince and that’s great. I binged the show after season three released. I listened to podcasts about the show . I listened to yours and felt really happy when I found people who also liked the show. Unfortunately I fell of during the hiatus between season three and four. I am patient person but three years was long. Also I watched the show for rallylum and through the moon just kind killed my love for them.Then I found your blog and was really happy. Then I saw how you felt about the owl house and it bothered me. As a neurodivergent person the show made me feel really seen. I know it’s stupid to be upset about an opinion. As a person who wants to be an English major how do find parallels between relationships and characters. You talk about certain ones and I don’t see them at all. Your probably more seasoned as a writer than I am so

Ps : sorry this is long and hope tdp ends well in your opinion

Few things:

1) I'm also neurodivergent (hi!) - specifically Autistic - and I have also largely wanted to be understood my whole life, much like Luz (according to S3). While a show making you feel seen can certainly be wonderful, meaningful, and sometimes even life changing, to me that's not enough to make it a Good (per my subjective tastes) Show. That's not to say TOH is a bad show - far from it - but it's one that didn't appeal to my particular tastes due to 1) too many characters and not enough screentime, 2) a lack of theme (which many kids shows don't have a ton of because they're, y'know, for kids), and 3) all of the characters have very black and white morality, and that's just less interesting to me.

Being upset about opinions is very natural, and it's not stupid, but it is also important to acknowledge that 1) you can't control how anyone else feels or interprets things and 2) no one else can control how you feel or interpret things.

2) I adored Through the Moon. Rayla's tendency to leave (and why) is always a hurdle I expected them to have to tackle at one point, and given that it's her main character flaw, I'm really excited and happy with the way it's been handled so far and how TTM kicked it off. The graphic novel also really resonated with me in Callum's place, as I too have loved many of my loved ones through incredibly difficult periods regarding their mental health, and the graphic novel felt very honest about the toll that can take on both parties in different ways, and how love/support can help, but ultimately isn't enough if the person isn't ready (or willing) to start trying to get better. It's not an easy pill to swallow, but it is a realistic and important one and I've enjoyed how the show has continued that storyline with Rayla (and Callum) into S4 and S5

3) Being an English major is not for everyone! I know many people who love to read and who are very good writers where an English degree would not suit them at all. It's a lot of reading (by my final year, there were some weeks where I was reading an entire 400 page book roughly every week, if not multiple at the same time). It is also a lot of writing (and my professors regularly chewed me out for my grammar). You also tend to kind of double being a history major as depending on what you're reading, you learn a lot of the religious/historical/cultural context in order to understand the language, references, and messaging intended by the author (and then whether or how much to disregard it, lmao). Being able to analyze — to see connections between characters and themes in particular, but other forms of symbolism and messaging — quickly is probably the main thing that saved my ass and let me stay on Honour Roll throughout my undergrad.

I have also been writing pretty seriously for a long time (I 'started' at age 10 but only really count age 12 onwards, cause that's when I first started writing 70k+ drafts every 1-2 years for original WIP stuff). A lot of what makes a good writer is being a good reader, taking your favourite stories (books or otherwise — movies, musicals, tv shows, etc can be gold mines) and figuring out what works in them and why, or why you like them (or don't like them), etc.

For example: The Owl House is a primarily character driven > plot driven story. In book form, it'd likely be Middle Grade to early YA. It's interested in character relationships among the main cast (any of the more villainous characters like Belos are never given the same amount of development or screentime) and some mild worldbuilding. It has some social commentary (mostly on the school systems through Luz and mental health through Eda) and an overall theme of "being different is good," breaking away from abusive systems/dynamics, and the importance of solidarity.

If I compare and contrast this to TDP, The Dragon Prince is far driven in equal parts by the plot (because it's wholly serialized) and by character. It is also very thematically driven — most notably how to break intergenerational cycles of trauma and violence, but also self-destructive tendencies, abuse, responsibility, power, grief, and concepts of justice and punishment. This is also reflected in the fact numerous villainous characters (Viren, Claudia, etc.) share close to equal screentime with the 'good guy' protagonists and heavily explores morality across a decently wide spectrum. It thereby has a more mature tone in its subject matter and would easily be YA in book form.

Which is to say: the best way to get better at analyzing is to break characters down to their basic plot structures (Character A does this, they want that, Character B does this, they want that, etc.) and see what pops up (for example, in Avatar The Last Airbender, Aang and Zuko both cannot go home, and duel Ozai when they're 13 years old, ultimately refusing to be violent against their opponent). You can also look at similar personality traits (curiosity, selflessness, carelessness, etc). Practice looking at the stories you love and figuring out what works and doesn't work for you personally — and then go beyond relatability to look more at subtext and symbols. Some of the best things I've ever read were books that had nothing relatable to my personal experiences in them (like The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini), and that was why I loved them because they got to broaden my horizons.

Pretty obvious answer. I like writing about the collector since he's my favorite character! I like his personality and how they are portrayed throughout season 2 and season 3. There a little funky guy. I also like how he does use they/them and he/him pronous but does not over put out it. This means it's not made as a big deal and is not passed by but is recognized appropriately.

Mainly The Owl House and Nimona, but I've also posted I Was a Teenage Exo-Colonist and have WIPs/plot bunnies for other fandoms

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Dear Bat Queen is still beating out Blood Brother, but I wouldn't be surprised if their positions flip. like a bolt out of the blue is a far third, then World's Best Turkey Carver, then arm-upgrading is a love language.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try hard to respond to every comment since I enjoy the community aspect of fanfic. However, there are a few comments that I haven't replied to yet, mostly because I wanted to give a thoughtful response but wasn't in the right headspace for it.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

My Whumptober/Angstober drabbles are pretty angst heavy, as are many of my other drabbles/ficlets.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

arm-upgrading is a love language is almost entirely domestic fluff. World's Best Turkey Carver has more twists before a happy resolution.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not yet!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not currently. I haven't entirely ruled it out, but I've mostly written genfic.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Nope. I've gotten inspiration from other media, but nothing that counts as a crossover.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Hrm. Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy are old friends, though Anne Elliott and Frederick Wentworth give them a run for their money. Alanna the Lioness and George Cooper were also a formative couple in my early teens.

(My TOH fics are mostly-gen even if they nod at ships, my IWATEC fic does strongly imply Sol/Dys, and I am writing Goldenheart in some Nimona WIPs.)

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I still have hope for my favorite WIPs!

I need to pick up my TOH grief Christmas fic again if it's ever going to be written.

My Palistrom & Promises series has been on an extremely long hiatus because I am (still) having trouble deciding how much of FTF and WAD I want to keep and how much I will ignore (this may also involve rejiggering the WIP that's furthest along).

I am not sure I can fully execute my phantom limb pain WIP to match my vision, but I think I can salvage at least a shorter fic from it and I am regularly plugging away at it with the help of WIP Wednesday asks.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I can occasionally write punchy 100 word drabbles. I like to think I also do a decent job at character studies. Dialogue is fun to write, but I am less sure that I am good at it.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

description, action, real plot, anything longform

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've done a tiny bit of it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

hello 👋, I've read your toh fics and they're rather, but I did want to know what about the third caused you to like camila?

In Season 1, Camila effectively appears twice; we get one episode of her being awful to Luz, and one episode about Luz's perception of her where it's shown her actions have made her rejection Luz's greatest fear. In Season 2, we got one more episode with her, which while it did soften me on her somewhat, also had a narrative that felt like it was saying Luz was wrong to run away, and had the promise, which felt pretty awful and manipulative. So I went into Season 3 worried that they were going to come down further on the idea that Camila was in the right.

Instead, she became my favourite character in the entire show.

Over the first special alone, we saw Camila realising and struggling with what she'd done, to the point she was having nightmares about what she did. But it also confirmed that she was put on the spot by Luz's school principal, and that she responded the way she did because she's just like Luz and has trauma for how she was treated for it.

Camila isn't a bad mom who still loved her daughter; she's an amazing mom who let her fears get inside her head and made a mistake. And when that mistake nearly cost her her daughter, she worked so incredibly hard to put it right and be the mom she'd always been deep down. "Luz's life would be easier if she was more like other kids" is such an insidious thought to have, but it's a thought that's was put in Camila's head by how everyone treated her and her husband as well as her kid; it's a thought that yes, she was wrong to have; but it's a thought that didn't come from her and it's a thought that she realises was harmful not just to her kid, but to herself as well.

She stops straightening her hair (I'm not qualified to talk on the racial & cultural discrimination aspect of this, but it's absolutely there too), she opens up about her interests, and she does absolutely everything in her power to be there for Luz and for all her other kids and supports her going back to the Isles. She buys books on things she doesn't understand, she's incredibly supportive of Luz being queer, she's just...

She's a perfect mom, because she's not perfect. She made a painful mistake for an incredibly human reason and she made it right again and I love her for it.
