Sketches of all my redone designs for my Phantom Thieves from my AU, Icarus! Lots of info down below on the cut, so if you want to know more about the details and inspiration, feel free to keep reading!

This includes Akechi’s design for his Princely/Robin Hood attire, BEFORE his Icarus attire you might have seen from my other posts! Check out the Icarus AU tag for more info! Icarus has a main focus on Akechi and his relationship to the thieves, but the AU is actually an entire rewrite with new designs, 3rd semester and epilogue/strikers/tactica stories, hence Zenkichi and Sophia’s inclusion.

Read below for individual info:

I decided to include more motifs towards their persona’s and general vibes; and also just my own personal touches haha.

AKIRA - Not much has changed, I really like his design overall. I raised his boots to be like Arsene’s and changed his neck area.

MORGANA - I hate the OG pill shaped head, his new design is based heavily on the shape of Palico’s from Monster Hunter. Added a little more nod to Zorro/His persona motifs and also just made him cuter! Little hamburger headed cat.

RYUJI - I made him a little bulkier and gave some more weight to his outfit overall. I gave him heavier boots and a slightly buffer build to relate back more to his sporty style.

ANN - honestly was never too big on her latex outfit, I wanted to call back to a personal favorite female lead; Christine Daae, and used one of the versions of her Don Juan costume as inspiration. I remember seeing Phantom live and in many stage versions of her character, the Don Juan scene was a pure moment of female control, and she was truly working the Phantom and controlling every movement on the stage. Her presence is commanding, and I thought it was a very fitting tribute to Ann’s character as feminine strength. (I’m absolutely not referring to the movie iteration of Daae btw.)

YUSUKE - I referred to some historical art and legend of Goemon to add more elements of design to his outfit. When I color them, I want to add some really strong pops of color to his clothing to really drive the aesthetics and artistry home.

MAKOTO - Another totally redid outfit, I opted to give her a design which relates back to Popess Joan, and also Anat. I gave her a clawed hand on her right side and an uncovered hand on her left as both a nod to Anat’s hand raised in iconography of her from art history, but also to show the duality of Anat’s title as both a goddess of war, and of love. It also relates to the mythology of Joan and her nature as both a leader and a martyr. I changed her mask to a Venetian Commedia mask as well.

FUTABA - ok. I’ll be honest. I never liked her skin-tight outfit, it just doesn’t match her personality at all. Also, the high tech Egyptian feel never really sold me. I totally understand the tomb thing, but I truthfully think a dungeon/palace which was more like… tech/nerd themed would have been much more “futaba” the inspiration for this new outfit relates back to her persona, the Necromomicon, as well as her nerdy personality, and her affiliation as Alibaba (Ali Baba.) I wanted to go more lovecraftian, long sleeves and patterning designed to look more like lovecraftian tendrils, and big baggy pants and her classic shoes to match. The patterning on her undershirt will resemble a rib cage, both as a reference to her deathly “tomb” iconography, but also to Lovecraftian and Necronomicon lore. I think she matches the description of a nerdy, techie DND dungeon master more than the initial outfit, so that’s the route I took personally.

HARU - relating back to some fashions from 17th c France, where Milady’s story (the three musketeers) takes place, I kept her design relatively similar. I just gave her a little more iconography relating to the three musketeers and that general timeframe.

AKECHI - in his pre-Icarus outfit, I’ve given him a princely sort of outfit befitting of his two faced nature, and edited it to relate to Robin Hood a little more. I tried to keep it sleek and just generally very concealing and layered.

SUMIRE - i gave her some iconography relating back to one of her personas, who is an inference to Freya. I also included some more nods to classic Cinderella, with fantasy gown elements. Overall, relatively similar.

ZENKICHI - again, relatively similar, I really like his outfit. I just opened up the face some to show more personality and spiced up the outfit generally to keep it matching. honestly, les mis/Valjean was a hard one, but I also think his character could be heavily related back to Edmond Dante (Monte Cristo.) so I gave some nods to that as well.

SOPHIA - I turned her into a FINGIE!!!! I made her whole dress as a nod to her persona/to pandora’s tiles around her/the pillars. I wanted to make her small and almost unnatural since she’s an AI, and I thought having a little guy on the team would add some more variation.

Woe, Persona 5 Swap AU be upon ye

Ok I had this sketched out a whilllleeeeee ago but never got around to finalizing it like I wanted- but since I was bored I decided to finish it now- yippee!

I saw said body swap comic linked above, and wondered if instead of everyone’s minds swapping what each person would look like if they were physically still themselves- but their characteristics/roles swapped (so basically a swap au- lmao)

I used the same logic? Swapping code? as the comic, so Akira and Akechi swapped, Yusuke is Ruiji, Ann is Yusuke, Ruiji is Ann, Futaba and Morgana swapped, Haru is Makoto, Sumire is Haru, and Makoto is Sumire (god that’s confusing but I think you can tell by just looking at them)

Also take some doodles I did on the side- can you tell Yusukes my favorite 💀 (Also- yes Sae is Sojiro- not sure how the story would work at that point but whatever lol)

Strikers is for the girls, gays and theys and I am positive of this.

Every time I talk to a straight guy about Strikers they just start going off about how they hate it and how awful it is and that's its soulless but like... no?

Comparative to the dancing games, I'd say Strikers is built with this... love I guess? Sure everyones been flanderized but in the same way the fandom does, turned up to 11 and it's great, Yusuke loves his lobsters, Ryujis aggressiveness a bro, Futaba's grown a bunch but also is still just a delightful and gamery as ever, Makoto's straight laced but willing to cut back, they GAVE Haru a personality.

Plus I'd even say that outside of Demiurge 3.0 (that was bad, kinda killed it for me) the things that repeat expand on everyone in a really nice way.

Alice parallels Ann a lot, and one of my favorite aspects of the villains in Strikers is that for the most part, they could have been our heroes.

With the exception of like, Futaba, Makoto, and Akira (Kurusu, not Konoe) ig but they got their times to shine.

Thinking about Natsume and Yusuke keeps me awake at night in the good way, Yusuke going off on him over the Sayuri had such an impact I straight up misremembered it as a cinematic cutscene.

Welp thats it for my Strikers rant for the moment, a friend of mine was talking smack about it and I had to rant a little.

Let’s be honest, the first thing he’d do in this situation is think of any possible way to get out. His leader instinct will kick in and he’ll force himself with the task to find a way out and protect you. Which is sweet! But good grief does he stress himself out over this.

You’ll have to force him to stop pounding against the walls of the bubble, sit him down, and give him a big hug. Tell him that everything will be okay and he’ll begin to relax.

“Joker, you don’t have to be a leader all the time. You stress yourself out too much, take a deep breath. It’s gonna be okay.”

“A-Alright...”

After he calms down, he’ll then think of random topics to keep you two distracted. He’ll ask you about your day, how you’re feeling, your favorite food, or think of random games to play with you.

At some point, he’ll ask if you two can have a trivia game on who knows who better. And of course, Akira got all the answers right.

“What’s my favorite animal?”

“Cats!”

“My favorite holiday?”

“Valentines Day.”

“My favorite person?”

“Uh, Sojiro?”

“Wrong answer, it’s you.”

It was goofy, but it was really just a reason to compliment you.

Akira is very paitient, but in the back of his mind will wonder if you two will ever get out. But he looks on the bright side of things! Since he’s usually very busy and you two don’t get much alone time, expect Akira to take full advantage of this.

Wether it’d be cuddling up to you in a needy manner or constantly whispering “I love you”. He’ll be more hungry for attention as the time passed.

His usual posistions of cuddling are you sitting on his lap, his arms wrapped around your waist from behind, or the both of you laying down next to eachother as if you were in bed.

After he feels more relaxed, he’ll think more rationally about how you two will escape. He can still get wrapped up in his own thoughts, so snap him out of his trance by telling a dumb joke or two!

“What if you pop it with your knife like a balloon?”

“Pfft, heheh.”

You two will most likely mess around with the bubble, since I don’t think anyone wouldn’t be entertained by a bubble jiggling like jelly whenever you poke it.

As discouraged as he may be, he’ll still feel positive that you’ll get out some way or another. But with you, time goes by a lot faster then he realizes.

Hello Canticle! I'm glad to see you're back, your fics are some of my absolute favorites! (I go back and reread them pretty often still, even though I'm much less active in the p5 fandom nowadays)

For the 90 degrees meme, may I make a request for A Rusty Knife? I've always wondered what the context behind the cupcake delivery is, if his friends sent them to him or he ordered them for himself?

(p.s. I love the Implications to the fact that it happens in late November, that's a very nice detail that I don't think I noticed before)

It's not unusual for Akira to be called up to the office at this point. There's a fair bit of confusion with regards to his schedule; Shujin was so far ahead of Yasogami in terms of material that there's next to nothing for him to do in classes. His teachers have supplemented his material with university prep materials but even then, his time with Makoto's studying drills make it a breeze.

The counselor works with him, has him sit and mess with prepwork in his office during some of the classes that he's outpaced too much. But that's usually later in the day. This is a period he usually spends tapping along Morgana's back and trying not to fall asleep.

The front office staff look just as confused as he does when he steps into the office area. "Kurusu-kun," one says, gesturing towards the counter, "someone has delivered something for you."

He turns.

Well, damn, they sure have. Someone's thoughtfully unpacked it for him and everything, he can see the packaging discarded off to the side.

There's a small white box, about his forearm in length and half again in width and height, and emblazoned with the Wilton's logo on it! Not only that, there's a small floral arrangement that has Rafflesia stamped all over it, he'd recognize his flower-sensei's handiwork anywhere. He steps forward just long enough to catch a whiff, the flowers still fragrant and crisp even after their long travels, and plucks a small card from where it's tucked between the greenery.

Akira-kun, it reads, this should be early enough to bring a little joy to your day! Please enjoy these cupcakes and know that we all would rather you were sharing them with us back here in Tokyo. We miss you!

Haru's name is signed with her signature flourish below. Akira doesn't even try to hold back his grin at the post-script-- P.S.-- please wait until you've finished them before you tell Ann, as I know she will be quite jealous!

Persona 3 update mostly on the story. I just got Aeigis and as a unit she's interested. Very focused on two things which are buffs and AOE physical damage. However her versatility is low so hopefully she gets better skills later. I didn't expect to get her this early I thought she was the last one we get like. Personality wise she's okay. Standard robot character so far but I'm sure her story gets crazy.

But what I really want to talk about is the characters of P3 and how it's really good at giving them their own agency. At first I was very disappointed that characters didn't get their personas through a self revelation like 4 and 5 and that their social links are way more of a barrier, but I get now it's bc they put more time putting their character development into the actual story instead of social links.

I think Yukari might be my favorite Persona character which man it's hard putting her over Ryuju, Kanji, and Mishima but damn she's up there. Her telling everyone off was chefs kiss to be honest. Dont get me wrong I adore Akihiko and Kirijo and I'm not necessarily saying they deserved to get yelled at like that. But Yukari definitely deserved to pop off. And the scene with her on the beach is great. The fact that she's like there's nothing you can say that will make it go away is just great. Again she's the most normal persona but her determination to do go snooping and finding out the truth is just so badass.

Moving onto Junpei my sweet sweet boy. I understand he's an insecure boy who just wants to feel respected and lovef and worth something but that doesn't mean I wanna go around hitting on women that I have no interest in. But I digress. I love his little arc after the love hotel where he just feels such visible content. I felt bad bc I do like Junpei and I hated him being mad even if it wasn't my fault. But it very sweet tbh after the erealizesnthst he's the problem he genuinely goes 'sorry I've been a dick' and we're good but I get the sense that feeling of resentment isn't over. It seems like a common theme in the Magician arcana.

I need to know what went down with Akihiko and Shinji. Also apparently Kirijo gonea through some intense shit too. They're still shrouded in so much mystery in such an intriguing way and seeing them both open up slowly is very sweet. Also I didn't expect Kirijos dad to be so nice I was expecting a Haru situation.

Fuuka is very funny and her willingness to hack into a major corporation is peak. Again I love her own agenda is just not wanting to stay with her parents.

Again, I love that everyone has their own agenda that makes more internal conflict. The P4 and P5 groups all shared the same goal so most conflict was external and very rarely did personal character development happen outside of their persona awakening or social links.

Also looks like I was pretty accurate in my analysis of the protag and that he's just vwry quiet and calm. He's a good leader, but socially he doesn't say much. So I'm more lenient with him being not as expressive as Yu and Akira if that is in fact his character. Yu comes off as very empathetic and a bit more extroverted (from what I remember it's been a while since I've played 4 and 5 and ofc player choices matter) and Ren comes off as introverted but with a silly side along with a strong sense to help others.

But yeah quickish analysis of the my P3 experience. Could possibly become my favorite solely for Yukari.

thoughts on shuharu/headcanons?

Its not my personal favourite ship for either of them but it's definitely my favorite for Akira/Ren/whatever you wanna call him x any of the other female phantom thieves. I mean to me she was the only one who seemed like she already liked him during her confidant in the game and they do look pretty cute together as well as seem to have a matching temprement. I also feel like I can acc see a future for them as (at least as for what I imagine for Ren) running or working in a small cafe like Leblanc would suit him. As for what I imagine they'd be like in a relationship here's a couple headcannons of mine:

Lots of coffee dates, Haru would make a point of wanting to discover new obscure restaurants and cafes, and of course Ren will follow suit. Not that he doesn't enjoy it mind.

Mans whipped (😏) and pretty much owns it.

In all seriousness, it's more like he enjoys seeing her doing things that make her happy, since he knows she wasn't for so long.

When it's his turn to decide what that do on dates/days out, it's usually movies or the arcades. They're both surprisingly nuts for horror. And the part timer working at the theatre in shibuya knows their faces by now and always seems slightly afraid.

Same goes for anyone in the arcades, naturally, Haru calls out the most horrendous sadistic stuff like in mementos while they play first person shooters. It's like she forgets she's in public sometimes. Ren finds seeing peoples shocked faces pretty funny.

When Ren moves back home Haru winds up coming to visit for a majority of the summer. Out in the country, she stands out like a sore thumb even more than in Tokyo. She hadn't not been in a city before and seemed to imagine it being a lot more different than it actually is.

His parents though mostly absent are incredibly confused by her sudden surprise arrival in a chauffer, with four suitcases of clothes (she knew she was staying quite a while). Especially as they'd never even heard of her.

Ren hadn't brought her up mainly because they didn't need to know, just like they hadn't bothered to call once when he was in Tokyo, he hadn't bothered to say anything.

Honestly, Ren had very few friends at home, even less after everything that happened. And the people who did still hang around seemed to have an issue with Haru. In general she has this level of unintentional classism-- she just kind of forgets certain things are a luxury and not everyday. And it seemed to be the main thing that was putting people off tho her. It really annoyed him but he didn't really know what to do about it except from distance himself.

It was all making him really regret moving home. So much so he wound up making plans for how he'd move back to Tokyo after finishing his 3rd year of high-school and what he'd actually do with himself once he did. Plans Haru and Makoto helped him draw up.

He, like Haru, wants to run some kind of small private run cafe. Sojiro is mentoring them both. They're heavily considering the possibility of going in on the buisness venture together but it's still very much early days.

Both of them have a keen interest in French literature. Which is part of what got them both talking to eachother outside of the group in the first place. They exchange annotated books a lot - haru using purple post it's and Ren using red.

After her "Relationship" with Sugimura, Haru isn't all that comfortable with physical affection. She especially hates feeling vulnerable. It's a very slow process for her to feel secure again. Luckily Ren is very aware of that and incredibly patient. Partly because he feels the exact same way. After being caught in Sae's palace, battered and dosed up, losing his autonomy and feeling out of control. It all bore on his mental wellbeing a lot. That understanding between them is part of what makes them feel safe around eachother.

Ren has a pretty hard time getting to sleep. He thinks maybe a part of him is Afraid he'll wind up in the velvet room again. Most of the time Haru tries to stay awake with him or offer to stay up so he feels less alone and in danger. But 99% of the time she winds up conking out, of course only after half an hour as incoherent slurred talking whilst she denies she's even tired.

In line with all this, Haru still has moments where she gets incredibly upset or distressed and isn't sure how to communicate it. The way Ren chooses to respond is to give her physical space but stay with her. A majority of the time they don't talk and he just sits by her, letting her come to him if she wants/needs anything (usually a hug once she's calmed down).

There's a lot of hand holding between them. If there sat idly somewhere haru tends to grab Rens hand and trace it's edges with her finger out of boredom.

She's definitely a snorer. But it's a cute snore. Like a little toot noise every so often. That actually does help Ren sleep.

Whilst he already has a pretty good sense of fashion. Harus always wanting to dress him up, and a majority of the time he let's her.

One time Ann suggested she should try and get him to wear a dress, not expecting the fact he was more than happy to. Even more so he pulled it off with way more confidence than anything any of them had ever seen. (Ryuji discovered something about himself that day)

When there together they have this peaceful quiet sometimes, both of them enjoy just stopping and listening to the world around them (which cannot be said for some of their other friends). As well as this they have this way of being able to communicate without words. When they're in group settings it drives everyone else insane trying to figure out what the difference is between their different stares at one another mean and how they developed such a language.

yo i played persona 5 for the first time (III)

Alright, so this post (previous one here and first post in the chain here) is going to be about my general final notes and about Hina as a character.

Despite all my gripes, I did end up enjoying the game. I wouldn't have poured 230 hours into it if I'd hated it.

But most of the enjoyment I wrung from it was a result of the mod and the personal headcanon I spent the whole game developing. I really don't think this game would've been for me without that, which is why I don't intend on playing Persona 4 (well, at least until that game's female protagonist mod gets off the ground). I might play Persona 3 Portable as that game's female protagonist after a little break, though.

Anyway, as for Hina...

She's maybe my favorite player character in any video game ever. The slight jankiness of her implementation lent her so much charm, and characterizing her was a ton of fun, especially with how close my trans headcanon seemed to the game's reality. Does that affection transfer to Akira/Ren, or other people's genderswapped Jokers? Well, no, not really. I can't say I'm an expert on the way people view Joker as a character, but from a cursory glance, I feel like Hina's distinct enough from the popular interpretation that she's basically an entirely different person slotted into the role of protagonist. Maybe that's conceited of me.

Hina has the most common family name in Japan, and I thought Hina was the most popular given name in Japan in 1999, the year she was probably born. Turns out that wasn't the case, Hina is actually much more popular recently. The actual most popular name for 1999? Miku. So if I'd had accurate data, she may well have been called Miku Satou. Probably not though.

Hina didn't have friends in her hometown, partially because she was really quiet as a kid and partially because everyone started avoiding her after she started coming to school in a girls' uniform.

Hina's parents have been supportive from the beginning. In fact, her name is from them (she requested it). Also, they sent her to Tokyo with a maid outfit in her box of stuff, which is extremely funny. She calls them once a week, early on Sundays. She doesn't tell them about her phantom thief activities.

Hina's legal name is changed, but not her legal gender (people only ever call her Hina, even in situations where they'd have only read her name off legal forms, so her name must legally be Hina).

Hina largely doesn't react when people misgender her because she's used to it.

When Maruki mentioned that Hina might make a good counselor herself someday, the headcanon wheels started turning in my head and I realized that that's really fucking good. Hina wants to go to university to become a youth counselor, because she saw what happens when someone has the worst counselor ever. Not to mention Hina wanting to help kids like her who might not react well to an authority figure telling them how to live is really sweet.

Hina's trying to create a real version of her Phantom Thief outfit she can wear casually. She has red gloves in her winter school outfit! Why else would she have those? She's going to get white glasses frames next.

Hina isn't good at talking to people, but she comes off as confident because she also has a hard time speaking in any particular tone, so she almost always seems to be talking without reservations.

Hina is an only child. (Fairly sure this is an element of most people's imagined Jokers. No way does this person have siblings.)

I don't think most of the harsh things I put in quotes to indicate that Hina said them are things she actually would say. I think she's probably thinking them.

Hina has a gaming PC in her hometown. Her buying that laptop was because she was going stir-crazy from not having access to a desktop computer.

Hina likes Morgana much more than I do. She doesn't think of him as a big brother (lmao), but she does love him like a brother.

In contrast, I think Hina has exactly as much disdain for Mishima as I have.

Hina isn't really invested in Akechi. She thinks he's a terrible weirdo who she wishes would stop talking to her. When she learns about his actual motivations, that switches to thinking of him as kind of pathetic. She wishes he would have talked to her about his issues at all, because she probably could have helped him deal with them like she helps literally everyone else, but she's not so broken up about him not being in her life anymore. (In contrast, I actually quite like Akechi now that I get what they were going for with him.)

Hina is good at schoolwork, but she's lacking in common sense.

Takemi actually never misgendered Hina, and Maruki only did so once. It's pretty funny how the medical professionals are consistently the least transphobic people in the game. I wonder why that is? 🤔

Hina got really good at making coffee and curry in the year she spent at Leblanc.

Hina being shorter than regular Joker is especially funny because her animation speed has to be adjusted, so she walks really fast in cutscenes where she moves places. She has to move that fast to keep up with people.

Hina's relationship with Haru is going to cause an absolutely awful scandal if it ever becomes public. I have no idea how they're going to deal with that, but hopefully they'll figure it out.

Hina doesn't really find any new friends when she moves back home, but she's alright with keeping to herself and focusing on her studies while having friends she can talk to online and a cat who can talk.

Hina might be rejected from a lot of universities for her criminal record or her transness. She might've had her record expunged, but she still spent time in juvie, not to mention the heavily political implications of her actions might risk scandal for any university that she enrolls in. She might end up having to apply to universities abroad, where the Phantom Thieves and the events surrounding them weren't so much in the public consciousness.

Anyway, that's Hina Satou. I might write fic for her someday? But she requires a lot of context to really understand her. I care about her a lot, and people understanding her is important to me for some reason.

can i ask for your thoughts on all of the phantom thieves ?

i feel like im being interviewed lol... and well i've completed p5(r) 3 times + i'm starting my 4th right now so clearly i have a lot of thoughts so i don't know how to boil it down into a sensible easily communicated response to a tumblr ask haha...

basically i love everyone...um. in short (p5(r) spoilers):

joker: the most trans in any direction character, stylish, fun, mostly-silent swag. i love protagonists. joker can hold multitudes. insert the behind the mask lyrics. i think about 3rdsembadend a lot. also "canon" names wise i prefer akira by a fair amount if that matters. keeping them unnamed in my comics is a deliberate choice though haha

mona: people need to stop being mean to him he's literally a cat. my brother loves him :) little guy... yeah okumura palace sucks but most of the others have shitty moments too...lol. he's literally a little guy what more do you want. ask me about my thoughts on his gender

ryuji: my best friend!! i think i enjoy him more and more over time he's so ride or die. just a swell dude. such a bro. simple in a good way. aftermath aside his moment in shidopalace is so iconic of him

ann: my second favorite 5 character i love her so so so much. maybe her relevance drops hard post-kamoshida but do i look like i care. she makes me happy :) and also she will forever be iconic for the whole "he can't suffer if he's dead" thing. there are types of characters that i like.

yusuke: okay. confession. the reason yusuke's barely showed up in gomics (he was in the background One time) is because i'm bad at drawing him and worse at writing him (i'm aware the standard of writing for these things is low (lol) but i just can't channel his vibe. being an artist and Like That doesn't even help). i love him though!! he's so funny and his confidant rules. etc. one of those characters that i don't think of 24/7 but when i do think about him it's like. explosion

makoto: she'll figure things out.

futaba: little sister obtained...!! she's my everything. like...dude. i don't know how to put it into words to be quite honest she's just so real. so real. so real!! her palace was good :') she's really fun and resonates so well emotionally... mental illness represent and stem kid solidarity (i do not have the capability of hacking into the government). iconic that they gave her the male velvet suit.

haru: she really needed more screentime i know that's not a new thing to say but it's true she gets overshadowed SO bad. i adore haru... it's. um. the like. reservedness? like she's been holding things back. and strength. and the "i am no longer your subservient puppet". it's interesting how she doesn't get proper resolution for her palace-related troubles like the others (read: dad got assassinated)...and yeah the gap moe of her capacity for violence also. #girl

goro: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. yeah. um. he's my favorite. anyway

sumire: i like her a lot, just more in theory than in practice if that makes sense... why did they put her hair back up and steal her glasses... i think her inclusion in sae's palace is kind of nonsensical but i get it i guess it's for returning players and all. love the cinderella thing she has going on. she's sweet. she has so little time to really shine which is a bummer. i like her. she's a good contrast to the other two in 3rdsem and funny also.

you know I will never understand atlus' mistreatment of ryuji. like how every character just belittles him into being too dumb and incompetent to make decisions or even give his input. people forget that without ryuji wanting to go back to kamoshida's palace to help the volleyball team the phantom thieves would've never formed. he has such a strong desire to help/protect those he cares about and would risk his life to do so. like he helps the volleyball team despite all of them thinking of him as nothing more than a delinquent. he helps his old track team even though they shunned him and blamed the team disbanding on him instead of kamoshida. he jumps in front of a car just so they can get to Makoto and help her despite the fact she was blackmailing the thieves and the treat of going to jail. he is such a kind and considerate person and people ignore that fact just cause what? he's loud and has a temper? he doesn't make some of the best decisions? I mean so what? he's a teenager, what teenager makes all the right calls all the time? what adult does that? like people forgive Makoto so easily for her threatening everyone with jail time and how she literally threatened their lives by charging into kaneshiro's hideout, but won't do it for ryuji cause he gets pissed off and treats morgana badly. and he had every right to be angry at Mona cause he has done nothing but drag ryuji through the ground since day 1. he was never even given a chance. the only one who does is akiren but even then you have the option to be a dick to him

I hope that all made sense, I'm just rambling about my thoughts on ryuji. he's always been one of my favorite characters cause I relate to him a lot. and like... with the shit after shido's palace I had to take a break from the game for a couple of hours cause I was so angry. like he just saved all the thieves lives and they beat the shit outta him????? and for what??? he didn't know they thought he died?? wholeheartedly agree with your points anon ryuji is treated SO badly by the plot and the entirety of the cast. the fact that the girls beat him up and leave him slumped over on the street is irritating as all hell. i won't lie i did laugh a bit when the moment itself happened, but then they left and didn't tell him thank you or anything at the end and i was like wh. whh?? WHUH????? UR LEAVING HIM THERE???? NO GO BACK.

ive always imagined that the reason why mona ribs on ryuji so much is due to his own inferiority complex. he can't put ann down because yknow. akira's the leader, yusuke's the creative mind. makoto, futaba, and akechi are too smart for him to put down, and haru's too sweet for him to say a single bad thing about her. the only one left to take the brunt of his bitterness is ryuji, so he attacks him to keep himself safe.

i'll be honest--i wouldn't have any problem with it if the entire arc was properly resolved. if he was being overly mean to ryuji throughout the story and then properly recognized his own faults and apologized i would've stood up and cheered. but nope, nothing of the sort. morgana dances back into the group even though he tries to run akiren over multiple times. ryuji never gets an apology. growth's about as dead as okumura foods' reputation
