Story Universe: Tokyo Ghoul

Leyla is a ghoul that was taken in and raised by Mr. Yoshimura since she was a child.

He’d found her after she had run away from the only home she knew of at the time after killing the human couple that was “caring” for her since she was very young. They had somehow got it in their heads that you could just ween a ghoul off of human meat. After years of being slowly starved to death, she’d killed and eaten them out of desperation.

Personality-wise, Leyla is something of a wallflower at first. She’s overall kind-hearted and really believes in Yoshimura’s (or “Pops” to her) vision for living peacefully as ghouls among humans, but she tends to keep her head down more often than not and keep to herself or the OG Anteiku crew. One may say she is even just a little naive about the realities of ghoul life, especially since she’s nearly always lived in the bubble of 20th Ward under Yoshimura’s care and protection. She gets more of a clue as time goes on and becomes more outspoken rather than keeping her head down to not shake the boat as she did before. By :RE, she has a much rougher exterior and militant thought process regarding the CCG and gaining peace for ghouls, but under all the rough edges, at her core she still just wants to take care of and protect people that are important to her.

At Anteiku, she doesn’t really have the talent for coffee brewing or dealing with customers, so she does supply runs for the coffee shop as well as makes food deliveries to ghouls in the 20th Ward that are either unable or unwilling to make it to the shop in-person. She gets along well with the OG crew of Anteiku, seeing them as family, and is the one that initially brings Ken into the fold and tries her best to help him acclimate to his new life as a ghoul (though definitely tends to handle him with kid gloves more often than not, which Touka calls her out on).

After the destruction of Anteiku and the deaths of Ken and Yoshimura, Leyla falls pretty hard into a depressive hole and ends up breaking contact with Touka and the others from the shop to strike out on her own in the city. The loss of her home, the man that she saw as a father, and the guy she was falling in love with was a pretty hard hit for her that she didn’t handle well, and she ends up going on a steady killing spree throughout Tokyo, of which, even years later, she has very little memory of and has no idea just how many people (innocent or not) that she murdered in that time. Finding a group of orphaned ghoul children is what triggered her coming more back to herself, the final straw of focusing on keeping them safe being when the group got suddenly whittled down to 3 kids.

Following that, she meets Capria after helping her fend off some Aogiri Tree members from attempting to recruit her and they team up together to not only watch after the kids, but to help out any other ghouls that haven’t already been absorbed into Aogiri Tree’s ranks or any other remaining gangs. Leyla ends up inadvertently amassing a sizeable group of ghouls that are loyal to her. To ensure her people are fed, she opts to have them specialize on stalking and hunting anyone that works for the CCG rather than hunting around for suicides or picking off regular people. In order to keep the investigators from tracking her people down, she has them split up in smaller groups and they have no base of operations, and instead keep on the move throughout the city of Tokyo. Leyla eventually receives the codename White Crow and the rest of her group become known simply as the Crows as they become a bigger and bigger pain in the CCG’s side.

Leyla’s kagune is a bikaku-type. The tail, during the first part of Tokyo Ghoul is very whip-like, but not particularly strong; it can certainly leave decent wounds in flesh, but against other kagune or quinques, it’s fairly useless. During :RE though, when Leyla is significantly stronger (and experienced in fighting), her tail doesn’t change much in looks, but it gets much harder and deadlier, enabling her to spear and slice through most quinques and kagunes. It also has the ability to split into three parts, though that makes each piece brittle and less effective in a fight; she main uses the split form to help her get around a battlefield quickly or catch enemies she’s up against by surprise.

I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this and will definitely not be the last but what if in an AU, Hide and Kaneki were childhood friends but didn't stay friends into adulthood.

Hide is a CGG ghoul investigator and Kaneki is still a one eyed ghoul (ignore that Rize and Kaneki meeting was encouraged by Hide for me okay?) I think Hide would struggle with what was ultimately Haise Sasaki's downfall: he sees humanity in ghouls. When him and Kaneki ultimately meet in battle, I think Hide would find Kaneki beautiful. I think he would see him and go "wow pretty man :)" as opposed to seeing an enemy or someone he could kill. His obsession grows stronger the more he sees him in investigations and battles. It's not a one-sided thing either. Kaneki would recognize him. He realizes that it's Hide fighting him but what is he supposed to say? Idk I just think this AU would be really neat and that Hide and Kaneki would have a Romeo and Juliet type of love in it somehow (just minus the weird age gap).

🖤He loves you a whole lot and I say this because he doesn’t keep a girlfriend so that’s why you’re special. Normally Uta will just sleep around or have one-night stands. He won’t go through a relationship, the closet he’s had is friends with benefits but no actual dates or care.

🖤So when he realized he had feelings for you he thought about actually pursuing you, which means he liked you for a long time before asking. So it took him forever, like years, to ask you. Well he didn’t even ask you. He took things slow he didn’t just take you to the bed. He waited to get to something like that because again he actually liked you!

🖤Anyways, Uta doesn’t appear to be affectionate but he’s actually very affectionate (in a needy way) and sexual with you 😂. Its just mostly behind close doors. And he is such a fool for you.

🖤“Shut up.” You’d say, your hands covering your face. Given how you reacted and how Uta was a sucker for your tears he felt guilty that he made his girl cry, or so he thought. He tends to forget that you love to joke around a lot yourself.

🖤Hearing your little sobs he felt guilty, “Hey, c’mon, I’m sorry baby.” He’d admit taking your hands away from your face only to see you smile and laugh.

🖤“Got you!” You’d laugh, only to make him smirk, “You’re such a liar.” He’d tease before chasing after you around your shared apartment.

🖤You share an apartment, he first gave you the key to his place and the more you spent time together he wanted to move to where you wanted to. But it took a while to convince you to move to the city with him. He’d ask you every day to move in with him.

🖤You are probably an artist yourself so your whole apartment is a studio and has many aesthetic and edgy things.

🖤Like he has candles of naked woman, abstract paintings, photographs of you (preferably nude), plants, and more. ( and he makes more than half of this joke and fully claims that you are his muse.

🖤His nickname for you is "my muse". Like he calls you other things like babe, doll, baby girl or y/n but "my muse" is a special nickname. Mostly because he has never used a creative nickname such as this one. He will rarely use "sweetheart" but he does use it.

🖤Very overprotective, even if he doesn't always show it. He never really lets you out of his sight, like ever. Even if Uta doesn’t go everywhere with you, he does want to know where you're going just in case.

🖤But he is a little controlling over his girl, and this is mostly because he always feels the need to protect her. He babies his girlfriend a lot, he be littles her often. Which is a sorta is red flag since he thinks you can’t handle things on your own.

🖤He would definitely have an age gap with his partner, say about 5-8 years. Even ten years, where he is older than her. He's not into older women.

🖤Also doesn't surprise you if Uta knew you when you both were younger he just took forever to go out with you.

🖤So he always interviene in a potential fight, when a guy hits on you, etc.

🖤“I told you I can handle it on my own.”

🖤 "No, you can’t."

🖤Even when you’re going into a certain ward he doesn’t let you go alone because he feels like you’ll get hurt.

🖤 "I was just going out."

🖤 "Oh perfect, I'll come with you then." He'd say, grabbing his keys to accompany you.

🖤“Uta, I can go on my own.”

🖤 "It's dangerous, I'm coming with you." He'd insist.

🖤 "I'm not a little girl, I can handle myself. I've walked there many times." You'd eye roll, having enough of his overprotectiveness.

🖤He’d give you one look of disapproval before saying, “Get in the car, Y/n.” He’d place his hands on your shoulders and turn you to the direction of the car before opening the door and nudging you to get inside.

🖤“Seriously? I’m fine.”

🖤“You have to understand something, my girl is my responsibility.” he'd argue.

🖤Speaking of which when he gets jealous, he gets jealous!

🖤He will act very calm with you but between him and other guy he becomes a completely different person. When he’s jealous he asks a lot of questions which even leads him to sound a little snarky which catches your attention. Although he will be very quiet if he's not asking you questions.

🖤You question if things are okay but he brushes it off. As your lover he usually tries to gain reassurance through affection. He sometimes fights with you about this but it's not always.

🖤It's not pretty when you both fight, well, he may seem like a good boyfriend, but your relationship can be abusive. Especially if the two of you are ghouls, abuse is different than the way humans would see it. Either one, ghoul relationships tend to have toxicity. I won't dive deep into this but I think that there are forms of abuse that ghouls may revert to even with their partners, this doesn't have to mean physical, even verbal abuse because again, they are not human. They do not have the same mentality as human beings. If his partner is human its very likely that she has felt abused or mistreated once or twice, if not more in their relationship just by what has said.

🖤For instance, in a really bad argument, he may revert to a threat such as "eating her" when he first met her instead of keeping her around.

🖤If she's a half-breed he'd make harsh comments about her upbringing and if she was a ghoul just like him he'd tell her to not be so soft.

🖤Though he doesn't show his barsh nature to you (he hardly does) if he ever is angry enough, he might. This once led you to call him a monster because he wasn't the same person you had come to know.

🖤He will try to apologize to you after some deep thought, but it takes forever for you to just get to that step with him. There have been numerous times when you've cried yourself to sleep or ignored him for weeks. There are many relapses in this relationship because he is hard to love.

🖤Aside from this, he would do anything for the girl he loves. He's practically blind for her.

Story Universes

The first thing I’ll say about all this is that I do not have any of these stories actually written down and posted anywhere, so don’t ask me where you can read them. ;P They used to be all based in the roleplays I used to participate in with my former best friend, but since we’re not associating anymore and I have no drive to try opening myself to RPing with anyone else again, all this is just from my own personal daydreaming and whatnot.

While I’ve been tempted now and again to get some of these stories written out, I just don’t have the drive to deal with the writing process.

Anyway, this is a quick little list of the universes the characters most of my dolls represent exist in.

Ghosts & Things

It’s Yu Yu Hakusho meshed with Mob Psycho 100 primarily. Some references to characters from Bleach as well. Basically, if it’s an anime that deals in supernatural elements, it’s probably gonna be referenced in this universe…but it’s mostly YYH and MP100 because they’re the best ones.

Half the story revolves around my character Riyo as she exists in the YYH storyline, and then goes onward to hers and the boys’ lives as adults and parents into the MP100 storyline (which then centers more around Sachi; Riyo and Hiei’s daughter).

Bright Idea

This universe is basically a big amalgamation of a variety of series (primarily anime/manga) into one universe and the story is generally centered around my own characters (Naoko, Jin-ho, Nori, Amaya, etc). It’s generally pretty much a slice-of-life type of storyline with a lot of interpersonal relationship drama and whatnot. It primarily kicks off from when Naoko and Jin-ho are high schoolers and follows them through the creation of their band and on into their musical careers in their 20s and 30s.

Series involved in this universe include (but hardly limited to): Gravitation, NANA, My Hero Academia, Fruits Basket, BNA, DNAngel, Final Fantasy XV.

Tokyo Ghoul

I basically just follow along with the plot of the manga series, but with the addition of my own characters (Leyla, Capria, and Michelle) and the later part of the story changes up a bit with their presence.

Mass Effect

It’s just the original trilogy, but what if Shepard could smooch Joker. xD

Devil May Cry

Another “it’s just the games, but…”, and in this case it’s what if we knew who Nero’s mom was and it was my character Qianna?

(For future reference and in case I forget to update this later on, this description was written when we’d only gotten up to the 5th game out so we don’t officially know who Vergil fucked bahaha.)

Mononoke

Medicine Seller’s hijinks in the modern world, which includes running into my girl Amelia from time to time and seeing how their friendship progresses.

Arcane

The Netflix series, but Amelia gets to smooch Silco and then later on Viktor and she would die for Jinx because she’s chosen family.

The Witcher

What if Jaskier and Geralt had to put up with a second higher vampire in their adventures?

Final Fantasy VII

There’s yet another chick that thirsts after Cloud, but she thicc.

Cyberpunk 2077

Set in the story of the video game featuring my V (Vesper Sosa). Sometimes it keeps to the canon, but sometimes my imaginings include keeping Jackie Welles around.

Trigun

Set in either the manga version of the Trigun series, or the Trigun Stampede anime depending on my mood bahaha. Includes my CP2077 character Vesper (same design, but different character from CP2077) as a mercenary that ran with Knives until ideologies clashed and she crosses paths with Vash and crew now and again.

In this universe, Vesper is one of the first attempts at a plant-human hybrid (basically a prototype to Elendria), though in her case she wasn’t created and was human to begin with. In her case, she doesn’t have creation-esque abilities like Knives and Elendria, but her lifespan is much longer than the average human. Her reflexes and senses are also quicker/more powerful than they were originally (particularly her sight). She isn’t able to directly communicate with Plants, but she does have a sense for how they’re feeling in the moment. Her cybernetics are from back when she was still on Earth (needed her vocal chords rebuilt as well as her hands due to an accident).

I am okay! There's always a weird THING I have to deal with, but it's not feeling like life shattering now like it's been in the last 9 months or so haha

I've been working at an insanely convenient temp job since January. I have something resembling health care now, but it's so confusing I haven't used it yet. My crazy spine thing is way way better. I still kind of lock up when carrying things up stairs, almost no matter the weight of them, but it's getting better all the time! I can go up the stairs looking like a normal non-broken person like 60% of the time, it's pretty freaking sweet.

Being able to walk is great, I recommend holding onto that ability as long as possible.

I'm weirdly embroiled in a bunch of anime junk in case you haven't noticed a trend in the things I've been reblogging. Having a Sailor Moon flare up in the middle of my Tokyo Ghoul is a real Experience. I'm rewatching the sections with my favorite characters, who are mostly villains, turns out.

Also making a little series about characters who had an effect on me and my own Gender feelings. Most of them are queer male characters, even though I am definitely not a man and am definitely just None Gender With Left Lady-flavored nonbinary. I wish I could be the same kind of gender you get on amab folks doing 'girl' things, though. My body shape means a lot of things are just out of reach for me and it makes me feel like I'm in flesh prison so I try not to think about it a lot so I don't flip the fuck out.

Doing things with a lot of markers in a new marker sketchbook and red pencil sketching.

Button/print shop has been closed while printer was down, but now that I have one that is alive and functional, that can open up again once I make sure the colors are all calibrated properly. I'm going to add some designs after I mail any that were outstanding when the printers sputtered to death.

Got to see the full total solar eclipse this week, am rerooting a doll for lameass highschool nerd reasons, am going to have to rearrange a bunch because of the real estate the printer took up...

Had like a full week of emotional breakdown about a person I care about who seems to have just kind of given up on a number of things and got real existential about that for a bit, but I am still Fine, which is cool.

After so long of terror and insecurity and misery and pain, Fine is Great.

JUUZOU & TAROT

for those unfamiliar with tarot, here's some quick points to help better understand the following thread.

the standard tarot deck is comprised of 78 cards that can be split into the major arcana (22 cards, focuses on growth) and minor arcana (56 cards, focuses on numerology). the major is really all that ishida focuses on within tokyo ghoul, so that's all i'm focusing on for juuzou. the major arcana can be read as a story that follows the fool (card 0) and his journey through enlightenment.

numerology does play a big part in each card even within the major arcana, so a brief summary:

card 0 — the fool & protagonist of the major arcana

cards 1-7 — focus on the beginning of the fool's journey

cards 8-17 — focus on archetypes the fool encounters and his own inner demons

cards 18-21 — focus on self reflection of the fool's journey.

in a way, the entirety of tokyo ghoul can be summarized through the major arcana with kaneki being the fool, but that's another topic completely. however, i'd like to argue that juuzou's own story can be read as a fool's journey as well.

0 THE FOOL ; beginnings, risk, naivete, impulse

"the fool views the world with a sense of childlike wonder. infinite possibilities exist. [...] the fool heeds no warning! like a child, they can only view the world through the prism of themselves" — true heart intuitive tarot, rachel true.

juuzou's journey as the fool all begins with his birth name (up for debate whether it's his actual birth name or not, but this is all we're given of his previous life before being kidnapped by big madam). juuzou was previously known as rei. while the kanji for his name is written as 玲 ("exquisite, clever"), it can also be written as 零 ("zero, null"). as rei, he is doted on by his mama and treated like a doll, but when he doesn't score high enough "good boy points" is when juuzou gets abused by mama.

XIII DEATH ; rebirth, second chances, transformation

"death claws away at its own decay, revealing new life underneath" — true heart intuitive tarot, rachel true.

contrary to popular belief, death is not a negative card and does not literally mean death. it's my personal favorite card of the whole deck and 13 is my lucky number, so any time i pull it, i view it as a positive sign. it's a symbol for change and the death of things that no longer serve a purpose in your life.

juuzou's entire design is a reference to death. his hairclips, his quinque being in the shape of a scythe, the roman numerals XIII etched into the quinque, him working in the 13th ward in the joker bonus chapter, and even his own name which can be written with the kanji 十三 (thirteen). not to mention the references to friday the 13th's jason voorhees.

i feel like ishida purposely feeding into the misconception that the death card is a negative card is kind of genius. it hides the intention he had for juuzou's future growth as a character and misleads readers who aren't familiar with tarot beyond how it's portrayed in popular media.

XII THE HANGED MAN ; surrender, acceptance, sacrifice, change

"sometimes you have to put yourself in uncomfortable positions to learn and grow. surrender to the now, understanding the you do not know everything" — true heart intuitive tarot, rachel true.

over the course of part one of tokyo ghoul, we see how he changes from someone who doesn't fear death to ultimately facing the possibility of the person who has come into his life as a father figure potentially dying right in front of him.

this major change for him comes during the owl suppression mission. as juuzou's leg is severed and he is knocked back, one of his hair clips flies off leaving them in the numerals XII for the hanged man. it's at this moment too when shinohara sacrifices himself to save juuzou. i'd also argue that his leg being severed is a visual reference to the fact that the hanged man is typically portrayed by hanging from one leg.

XX JUDGEMENT ; healing, clarity, transformation

even before tokyo ghoul:re, juuzou is seen with the stitches near his right eye and the corner of his mouth in the shape of the roman numerals XX. it's been hinted since the very beginning that he would have a major transformation. when this symbolism become more obvious is during chapter 32 of tg:re when he gets promoted to special class (the same rank shinohara was) and we finally see him with his hair clips now in the XX numerals. he has now become the mentor.

XXI THE WORLD ; completion, happiness, closure

"the world signifies the completion of the fool's journey, and the turning of the wheel of fortune" — true heart intuitive tarot, rachel true.

shinohara waking up after being comatose for several years marks the completion in juuzou's story and is reflected in his hair clips and stitches showing the numerals XXI. even in kaneki's own story, juuzou was never a villain and never a morally grey character. his morals were formed by trauma and challenged constantly to the point of them changing over time. he has gone from an abused child with no remorse for killing to a well-respected peacekeeper that now has the emotional intelligence to cherish those around him.

Figured I should make a new introduction post-!

My names Allan, I’m a 21 year old guy from Canada. Strictly he/him/his pronouns.

I mainly post Tokyo Ghoul fanart but that’s just cause my hyperfixations tend to have a chokehold on my creativity. Though I’m gonna try to post more OC content again this year as that’s where my true passion is.

I’m a gorehound who indulges in dark fiction, both tasteful and trashy. I do my best to tag everything correctly but even so, if you are sensitive to themes of gore, horror, mental illness, trauma, etc, my page may not be the best for you.

I (hopefully obviously) think the notion of “if you like ___ in fiction it means you condone the real life equivalent.” is a dangerous and disgusting mindset.
