Prompt: highschool au where they go on a first date (met on a dating app)
Author’s notes: Sorry if this is bad, it’s one of my first times writing for Komaeda and it escalates really slowly. Thank you for being part of this everyone :)
Hajime Hinata never wanted this.
In fact, he was a good bit pissed at his friend Chiaki for setting him up on a blind date. He wasn’t interested in dating at all, but she pushed him to get out of the books and out with someone he didn’t know at all.
“Hinata…it will be good for you. Finals are still two months away, lighten up. Get out there.” His gamer friend piped up and interrupted Hinata’s pessimistic daydreams.
“Awfully hypocritical coming from you, Chiaki. When was the last time you went on a date?” Hinata bit back, more harshly than he intended. With that, Chiaki fidgeted with the hem of her jacket, something that she only did when embarrassed or lying.
Hinata may be cynical, but he knew he had hit a nerve and stopped.
“Sorry, Chiaki. I’m just a bit upset. You signed me up for Grindr! How did you even get my email password?”
“Your password is ‘Password’. It wasn’t that hard Hajime.” Chiaki glanced cheekily at her friend. “But it’s done now. You wouldn’t want to disappoint the poor guy.”
Hinata sighed, “I’m too nice for my own good.” he looked away and crossed his arms “Fine. I’ll give it a shot.”
Nagito Komaeda never wanted this.
He never in a million years would have asked someone to date a piece of trash like him, so being thrust into a date was not on his radar. How did he get in this situation? His luck, of course.
From what he gathered, someone misspelled their email and he ended up receiving their Grindr profile. Komaeda innocently filled it out, but never did anything on it. He saw a friend request and figured it was for Facebook, and with how much of a rarity friends are, he accepted it.
The trick is, this got him in a conversation with his new ‘facebook’ friend, and they agreed to meet up. Komaeda hadn’t even heard it called a date until after it was finalized.
“I can’t just cancel, even a talentless piece of trash like me wouldn’t do that to a person,” Komaeda sighed as he paced around his room, homework left forgotten on the bed.
“All I can do at this point is show up and hope he doesn’t have his hopes up too high.” As Komaeda drifts off to sleep he begins to wonder ‘Is this a piece of good luck or bad luck?’.
The day approached with sickening slowness. Hinata couldn’t focus in class and Chiaki would tease him about butterflies. Yes his stomach twisted wildly, but it was less butterflies and more fruit flies. They buzzed around without his permission and seemingly multiplied by the hour. One of Hinata’s teachers, Ms. Yukizome, noticed his daydreams and asked him about it after class.
“W-what? Have I been spacing out? I hadn’t noticed, sorry for disturbing you Ms. Yukizome.” Hinata waved his arms frantically, in a hurry to get to his study hall next period.
“I know that isn’t the case Hajime. I won’t force you to tell me anything, but there is obviously something bothering you, and I’m here if you need me.” Yukizome sighed and started to shuffle her papers when she was interrupted by Hinata.
“I just have a blind date and I’ve been worrying about it.” Hinata wasn’t sure what make him confess that, but he did. Now he has to deal with the wide eyes of his homeroom teacher.
“Really?!” Yukizome drops the papers and turns to look at Hinata before scrunching her brows “You don’t seem like the type.”
“I’m not. Chiaki set me up on this date with some guy neither of us knows.”
“Well…even if you didn’t choose this, you’ll do fine. If you’re worrying, then it’s obviously important to you.” This left Hinata standing dumbstruck as Ms. Yukizome pack up her things and left.
“Maybe…maybe I will be okay.”
Just before that fateful night, Komaeda stood before the full length mirror in his bathroom. They were just going to a normal restaurant, nothing fancy, but he still felt pressure. In the back of his mind, he wondered about the reason he was worried. He believed in how much of an insignificant human being he is, so there is no use in seeming like anything else.
‘Maybe he will actually like me?’ a tiny hopeful voice piped in Komaeda’s head. He shook it off, awaiting the despair that tiny hope could bring.
“What if he does?” Komaeda whispered, a soft smile creeping onto his lips.
The air was heavy with humidity, but the temperature was pleasant as Hinata approached the meeting place. He mused over what he thought his date would look like, since he only knew the name, Nagito Komaeda.
Hajime sat at the corner, tapping his toes and secretly hoping that this Komaeda fellow wouldn’t show up. Unbeknownst to him, Komaeda had been similarly loitering for about 15 minutes, having arrived early out of anxiety. Because of having seen Hinata’s profile picture, Komaeda immediately recognized him, but it took a piece of his luck to push them together.
Just as Komaeda was preparing to ask if Hinata was indeed Hinata, a stranger barreled through the crowd and the two were pushed together.
“Oh! Sorry,” Hinata bowed before looking up at the man he ran into. The white hair was definitely interesting, but people do all sorts of things with dye nowadays, so he didn’t question it too much.
“It’s fine Hinata,” Komaeda responded. Hinata froze.
“How do you know my name?” Hinata’s eyes went wide and his eyebrows raised.
“Oh…from your profile picture, you look just like it. I actually wasn’t expecting you to.” Komaeda shuffled his feet and tried to explain his slip of the tongue, hoping desperately that this actually was his blind date.
“That makes sense, I guess. I assume you are Nagito Komaeda, nice to meet you.” Hajime let out a relieved laugh and gave his hand for a shake. Komaeda took it and replied with a ‘you too’. Then the two were left in an uncomfortable silence.
“Sooo…should we go inside?” Hinata asked after about 30 seconds of no conversation. Komaeda agreed and they went into the restaurant, sat on the patio and ordered thier food.
“Your profile mentioned that you play video games?” Komaeda brought up, hoping to not spend the whole meal in silence.
“Oh, yeah. I play them sometimes. My friend Chiaki ma-helped me make the profile and put that down. Kind of silly of her.” Hajime let out an internal sigh of relief knowing that he made that save. “Do you like them, Komaeda?”
“Not really. I was really just trying to make conversation. Pretty lame I know.”
“No, its not. I’m not really making conversation easy am I. Sorry about that.” Hajime paused, trying to come up with some topic that wasn’t overdone. “Where do you go to school?”
He failed.
“I’m homeschooled right now. I never did well in school.”
“Not everyone can be a genius,” Hajime tried to allay the worries of this strange person that he is eating with.
“I was smart enough, the other kids were pretty mean to me, and I always missed a ton of days for some reason or another. I was always sick or injured.” Komaeda got a far away look in his eyes and Hajime quickly picked up the conversation to keep him from drifting off.
“Bad immune system? I get that. I go to High Point high school. I’m a senior, just about ready to leave this place forever. You play any sports? Wait…if you were sick probably not,” Hajime babbled on for a bit before being interupted.
“No, I’m really bad at sports, even if I had played. I’m pretty bad at most things, complete trash.” Komaeda laughed, but Hajime’s eyes did not show him amused.
“You aren’t. You were brave enough to come out here, not to mention we’re having decent conversation and I’m not exactly a social person. That’s pretty impressive.” Hajime reached out and patted the hand that Komaeda had placed on the table before hastily removing it and looking out.
“I guess if you look at it that way, I’m not too bad.” Komaeda laughed, and seemed about to say something else when the waiter came by with the food, and they both focused on their pasta dishes.
Maybe they didn’t want it, but this might have been good for the both of them.

it’s a jinsoul! this was my pfp for song lmao...rip trust issues though :(
i know you stan loona but im gonna gush about them anyways for the sake of gaining new orbits lol! :p
my personal favorite songs:
rosy
loonatic
day and night
oh yes i am
curiosity
love letter
d-1
egoist
uncover
everyday i love you
loona truly has songs for everyone though. me and an irl are the hugest loona stans and curiosity is literally the only overlap in our respective top tens like,,,that’s how you know a discography is diverse, and more importantly, good as hell.
eclipse and butterfly (and girl front to some extent), two (three) of their other top tier songs, seem to be the biggest gateway drugs to becoming an orbit lol.
i feel like orbits make stanning loona out to be more difficult than it actually is...like i really enjoy the lore and find it fun but all of the complicated stuff is pretty much just fan theories and you can enjoy them thoroughly without it. that being said, i think if someone is new and invested in stanning loona, watching the solo mvs in order is really worth it...what i wouldn’t give to experience all of them like that for the first time again :’)
checking out the three subunits it also important for orbit culture imo,,,1/3, odd eye circle, and yyxy are so musically rich and diverse i think it’s really fun to see their progression, plus it helps to understand group dynamics!
why you should stan:
the girls themselves. somehow the members of loona only give off the polished idol aura onstage. offstage, they basically seem like your neighborhood pals, burning chicken nuggets, drawing ugly pictures of each other and cheating at board games. they’re all very casual sort of people, and you can tell that their friendship is genuine.
beyond their personalities, their music...like i said, they’ve pulled off so many concepts it’s just so cool to see where they go next. idk if any other orbits get this feeling but when i see loona, even if i don’t like something that they put out, i still feel like they’re on the cusp of something great. i love my underrated flop* groups but loona is definitely not one of them. it honestly feels like current orbits have arrived early to the party, and now we’re just waiting anxiously for the other shoe to drop. i’m legitimately excited and happy to see where the future takes them.
i don’t want to go into detail about the lore because it’s kinda a lot, even though they reeled it in a bit for their last two comebacks but lemme just say. if lore with an actual point and story to tell rather than some vague artsy bullshit is something you’re into, you’ll like them a lot.
watch loonatv! it’s not essential to watch *all* of it, but you meet the girls one by one which eliminates confusion about names, personalities, subunits, and stuff. they also are doing a new series called loona logs, which are just vlogs filmed and edited by the members! i really like them, as they’re more substantial than other content and allow the members to just be themselves :)
thank you sm for the ask!!! i love gushing about loona ;;
send me a #! <3 ♡♡♡
