Apologies, book friends, it appears I slipped from a reading slump directly into a posting slump. Funny thing is I’ve been casually reading a bunch of web comics in my spare time, so I’ve already completed my @goodreads Reading Challenge for this year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m starting to get back on track with my classics reread of I Am a Cat by Sōseki Natsume, but the summer holiday vibe is strong & all I want to do is laze & nap in the sun like Sōseki’s freeloading protag. Some fun stuff: I recently got the chance to visit the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum & it was deceptively small, considering it houses the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts on the west coast, which means I’m planning a return visit to catch everything I missed. My favorites were the tomb tour, modeled after rock-cut tombs in Middle Egypt & constructed in the Middle Kingdom style (2066 – 1650 BCE), & the Alchemy exhibit, which had an actual glass cylinder of mercury just sitting in the middle of the Fifth Stage: Fermentation. Of course I brought a book & I’m hoping to finally put together a Piranesi reel this week with some of the clips I took (see slides).
