So Finality Counters are a new space that R&D is introducing in Lost Caverns of Ixalan to give us more readily available & cheap reanimation. If you haven't seen them yet, here's an example:

Finality being a counter is super sweet, too, because all of a sudden cards that remove counters or move them around become so much more interesting. Here are some highlights:

To recap: I reanimate my Great Mistake, it gets a Finality Counter. I tap my Fain, The Broker, removing the counter & create a Treasure token. Seems pretty sweet!

If you blink a creature, it returns to battlefield, sans counters- another way to reset.

And, of course, we could just say you know what? No counters ever, please.

This is the kind of design work that just sings with past Magic cards. I'm a huge fan!

Bronze to Mythic: Lost Caverns of Ixalan, draft #6

This deck was pretty sweet, but just a head's up, I'm going to complain a lot about all my games. 2-3

Pack 1, pick 1 Waterwind Scout over Souls of the Lost. Scout keeps me open, and Souls is good but it's a commitment--I'd rather it be passed to me. Pick 2 I ended up on Lodestone Needle over Abrade, Belligerent Yearling, and Oltec Cloud Guard. Looking to stay one color, Abrade is good but not unpassable. Pick 3 Volatile Wanderglyph over Earthshaker Dreadmaw. I'd have to really prioritize Dinos for UG, so I passed. I was kind of regretting that pick after pick 4 Poison Dart Frog over nothing. Pick 5 Pathfinding Axejaw over Brackish Blunder. Pick 6 Tishana's Tidebinder over Petrify which is probably wrong, but I wish this were paper draft. Pick 7 a late Etali's Favor over a late Skullcap Snail. Pick 8 Orazca Puzzle Door over Dinotomaton and a late Cosmium Blast. So after pack 1, I'm thinking, "where are the good cards?" yet again.

Pack 2, pick 1, kind of a sad Triumphant Chomp over Petrify. Pick 2 Enterprising Scallywag over Petrify and Tinker's Tote. Could have had a pretty good UW start here instead... Pick 3 Sunfire Torch over Triumphant Chomp. Pick 4 Cogwork Wrestler over second Tishana's Tidebinder and Cenote Scout. Pick 5 easy Staunch Crewmate. Pick 6 Careening Minecart over Staunch Pirates. Pick 7 Dinotomaton over Petrify. What is it about White cards that I just don't see? Like, I'm shocked about the white cards I passed. Pick 8 slam Staunch Crewmate. I still need a little help at the end of pack 2, but at least I have a plan.

Pack 3, pick 1 Goblin Tome Raider over Etali's Favor, picking up a nice 1 drop. Pick 2 Abrade over Master's Guide-Mural for the alternate universe UW deck. Pick 3 Chart a Course over the umpteenth Petrify. Pick 4 pretty easy Etali's Favor over River Herald Scout. Pick 5 just give me a 3 mana 4/3 Scytheclaw Raptor. Pick 6 Volatile Wanderglyph. Pick 7 brick. Pick 8 I don't know what happened, but I missed out on a choice of Cogwork Wrestler, Inverted Iceberg, and Brackish Blunder, and instead I got Disruptor Wanderglyph for some reason. Etali's Favor wheeled!

My games kind of sucked.

Game 1 my opponent appeared to be color screwed, scooped on turn 5.

Game 2, I played the early game rather poorly, but even if I played well, I flooded out pretty badly, and yet my opponent refused to actually kill me. I don't know what they were playing around, but I was dead for *many* turns.

Game 3 my opponent scooped on turn 4, they appeared to be mana screwed, but I mulliganed and was running out of gas. Seemed a little premature.

Game 4 was a game that I played too conservatively in the mid game, there was a turn where I didn't use a removal spell and instead offered a trade, which ended up cascading missed damage over the next few turns, and allowed them to string multiple topdecks together (it had to be multiple) and stabilize. Even so I had the game won with a Brackish Blunder on the blocker for my trampler but I looked down and didn't have an untapped island in play. It was still in my hand. *sigh*

Game 5 I mulliganed a 2 mountain hand for a 2 island hand on the draw, and went through 19 cards of my deck before hitting my third land. This game would have been trivially easy had I been able to cast red spells.

Okay, I've complained enough. The deck was good, I just played bad and got unlucky.

Behold ! I have made a cube with cards laying around and some new cheap additions ! For the use of 2-4 players, mostly me and my gf ! And it is very fun !!!

Here we winston drafted with 2 players. She got an abzan aggro plan, while I went for izzet storm. It's a lot of fun and a bit of a puzzle. I've had a very good goind off turn of like : basalt monolith on board, tap it, manifold key, untap monolith, tap it again, desperate ritual, young pyromancer, demand answers, windrider sorcerer, into crow storm for 6 shiny crows !!

I recommand trying to put together a cube if you enjoy commander's jankiness and originality, and also if you have a lot of cards lying around not getting played. Sometimes even chaff can become good in the right environment!

Look at this sweet dominaria remastered limited deck

Finally got my first ONE trophy, right before SIR released! My first 7-0 ever in any format if memory serves.

One win came off of someone leaving me with 1 life when they shouldn’t have, and the final victory came off of someone trying to Molten Rebuke my Necrosquito, only for me to pump it from 5 to 7 using a Cankerbloom.

Feels great!

You mentioned potentially redesigning characters as Compleated in a post a while back, and if you’re still interested in that, I’d *love* to see how you’d go about compleating Teferi! There’s a lot of potential there I feel like

Sorry for the (checks calendar) two month delay, but I wanted to give this some thought

I kind of went a bit overboard with this, cuz I wanted to explore a few different ideas

I added some notes, I hope they’re legible (side note but I found some old art of mine and apparently my handwriting has not improved since i was about 10 years old)

Also I felt like doing something shapey so I did a very straightforward (by which I mean barely changed) porcelain host design. I think the gold inlaid in the porcelain looks pretty good, as well as being a bit of a hint at his true autonomy (gold hued metals being much more associated with mirrans and the resistance than any new phyrexian faction, from what I can tell)

I think a design combining porcelain and chrome would be cool, but alas, is spent a lot of time on this already, so that might come later

Anyways—thank you for this suggestion, I ended up having a lot of fun with it, and I might have to draw more teferi art now, because I adore his visual design.

I’ve seen some discourse over how WOE is an aggressive format and people are upset by that. My stance is: yea, it is. You need to be on the board, or at least able to address it, by turn two.

(At least at Platinum, metas shift in the rankings in my experience.)

But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad format! These games have been sick. All of my trophies have been 7-2’s- I’ve had to play really tight to get them. There are a lot of really interesting decision points you have to make in game (where do I put my roles, should I play this as an adventure or just as the creature, should I crack my food or save it for a bargain later, etc.) Will I feel this way in a few months? Who knows. But I think, with the way the format is built for multicolor shenanigans and weird build arounds, WOE has some legs.

Bronze to Mythic: Khans of Tarkir, post-mortem.

Khans of Tarkir draft has left Arena, and I am sad to see it go.

Here's my stats:

-51 wins, 29 losses, a 63.7% win rate (slightly higher than my lifetime win rate)

-3 trophies out of 11 drafts (slightly lower than my lifetime trophy rate)

-all 3 of my trophy decks were non-white, and all 8 decks I did not trophy with were white decks, which is a weird result

-my most drafted card was a tie between Ponyback Brigade and Debilitating Injury (10 copies each)

-my highest rank was Platinum 2

-I have approximately 60,000 gold and 12,500 gems. I continue to spend $0 lifetime on Magic Arena.

It is hard to find enough time to do a true Bronze to Mythic run as a dad. I lost two weeks to a bad string of illnesses between myself, my wife, and my son and a few more days recently, again due to illness. That aside, getting even a draft a day is ambitious under the best circumstances. But it is something to aim for, so I will likely continue this run when Murders at Karlov Manor is released.

Khans of Tarkir still holds up after 9 years. Is it still the GOAT? I had been saying the last year or so that Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty was my GOAT, but after playing Khans again, I'm not so sure... I know for a fact I will be building a foil set cube in paper.
