Warning: Avoid Mod the Sims Forums

So, this has got to be the weirdest, most embarrassing turn of events for me, but I had to get this off my chest.

I've been on Mod the Sims forever. It's been the most helpful place I've ever been to in terms of troubleshooting issues, particularly with Create a World. Because of this, I am hugely indebted to the site and the amazing tutorials and advice that still continues to be a treasure trove to this day.

But as of 2024, I can't recommend the forums anymore. It's weird, because in the wake of EA announcing that it was closing the official forums for Sims 3, I was recommending making a jump to Mod the Sims. The reason why is that it has great regulars who are the most knowledgeable of the sims community, and the forum software is great.

However, I wound up with egg on my face. No sooner was I encouraging people to jump to the MTS forums, they became the epicenter of tons of drama because of several troublemakers creating chaos there. I won't go into too much detail about Problem Poster #1, because apparently, it's not politically correct to complain about someone who might genuinely be mentally disabled.

Problem Poster #2 was a straight up psycho, getting triggered because she got a dislike on her posts, which always happens at MTS. (Even the two popular regulars/retired mods at MTS have gotten downvotes.) She then started baiting posters by accusing anyone who disagreed with her about Sims 3 or Paralives as "working for EA/Paralives."

One thing led to another and her posts became increasingly incoherent, practically screaming with rage and throwing out paranoid accusations that people were "watching her", that the forum was full of "jealous bitches" and "whores."

No amount of reassuring her that nothing was going on could calm her down and that everyone gets dislikes. If anything, the more people talked to her, the crazier she got. Naturally, with someone making a spectacle of themselves, this brought even more dislikes (because you know how it goes when someone makes a mountain out of a molehill).

By Day Three of her irrational, crazed rampage, she was cackling about how the dwindling of dislikes was "proof" that blocking people showed that there was a group of "jealous bitches" following her, when the reality is that people had stopped wasting time with dislikes and were just reporting her to get banned. Then she started attacking me, calling me a bitch repeatedly, accusing me of "starting it" and stalking her for three days.

Instead of banning her, the admins at MTS didn't. They merely removed the posts where she went full blown Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and let her more rational posts stand to just pretend that none of this happened.

Then they allowed her to pretty much remain, with the illusion that she's a pinnacle of the community. But if you see the posts that the admins left standing to make her look rational, you can nevertheless see the signs of when she started to mentally unravel.

This is not even the first time this type of thing has happened, not just to me, but to another poster. I remember there being drama last year when a poster got a temporary suspension for supposedly being racist against Asians, when she was Asian herself.

So, that was it for me. I've been an active member of MTS since 2012, both as someone seeking advice, but also someone wanting to give back to the forum out of gratitude for all the help it had given me. I even gave a shout out to the forum in my latest world and posted links to it from my website. I don't know if the people who own and run the site have changed hands or just stopped giving a fuck in the wake of the pandemic or dwindling visitors and ad revenue, but I won't be posting at MTS anymore and I don't recommend the forums to anyone. When you allow an unhinged person to go off and then "cover their tracks," I can only imagine what other horrible, nasty things that posters have said that were also hidden from view.

I have only just hit upon the realization that my story very much wants to be Tolkien-esque.

Which I won’t say is a horrible thing, since as Terry Pratchett said in his essay Magic Kingdoms:

J.R.R. Tolkien has become a sort of mountain, appearing in all subsequent fantasy in the way that Mt. Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes it’s big and up close. Sometimes it’s a shape on the horizon. Sometimes it’s not there at all, which means that the artist either has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt. Fuji.

Though I will say that it does inspire a fair bit of dread, honest to God dread, because Tolkien’s work is a mountain, and the most I’d probably be able to achieve would be a molehill.

DBH part 16

Back at the Ferguson mansion

E was sitting on the sofa with a scowl on his face. His sour mood was thanks to his oldest that didnt mentioned anything about him not being in school. C didnt even bother telling him that his school was closed down for the maintenance. He only found out about it bc he drove past it to get to a meeting.

Mt wasnt aware of it either, still the poor assistant had to fall victim to his anger. E was about to call his son on his phone but S was suggesting him to wait for him to come back. E already told S about their rebellious son and how he changed 'for the worst'. S just laughed at the CEO and claimes that E is making an mountain out of a molehill.

Se was up in his room as he finally finished his last assignment. Right in time for the show to start. Or so he thought. To his disappointment, the Ultraman show got a revival and now takes the majority of the channel for this day. Se knew about this franchise, but never got into it. In his words: „i found it way too lame the first time i watched it. Why would i bother watching an outdated cartoon like that?”

He is not the only one who got mad at this. As it turned out the owner of that particular channel got paid a lot of money from the Ultraman producers but they were not expecting to get that much backslash in such short time. The ratings dropped not long after the opening and some kids complained in their social medias.

Se got a call from one of his new friends and both started to rant on why they would do such a big mistake. In recent years there was barely any demand on Ultraman or the show in general. But now the whole day they played new episodes of its revival.

The little boy tried to give it an other chance by watching the first half of the episode but it still was garbage to him and his friends. Eventually Se turned off the TV and searched for the newest episode of his cartoon.

|Decided to give this show a name since i cant always describe it as a fantasy adventure show. It gets too long over time. I will call it 'The lost Grave Gem' from now on. It isnt really short either but for practicalities sake i go with Grave Gem|

Switching to Na's placesNa noticed that Grave Gem wasn't airing for a whole day and even for her the first half of the episode was nothing more but a headache. So she just went back into her room and continued her investigations. The date of Yv's death and place where she was buried were easy to find. But not much was given otherwise.

She was thinking of asking her parents if she could visit her grave but decided against it. Her mom was looking at some old photos last week and didnt want to pry to her or her dad about it and just decided on taking the bus.

The girl slipped through the hallways to avoid running into their house workers. She didnt want them to rat her out to her parents like they like to do.

After some close calls she finally left the house. Next stop on her list, taking the bus and look for clues at the graveyard. She was sure that someone would take care of Yv's grave.

COVID-19 this week: 

Plowing through: Eating with crooked forks (Part 4)

Is there simply an assumption that being raised in the same household we will understand one another? That we will give one another the benefit of the doubt? We can know each others darkest childhood secrets and I believe we can also exhibit the cruelest of actions against one another. Struggling to pull ourselves out of the often entrenched patterns. The habits that seem so commonplace or comfortable we can’t even see them when they are pointed out to us as being so unkind or heartless. 

Untangling myself from a web I didn’t need to get caught up in. Younger sib was making a mountain out of a molehill. I was swept up and away and realize now it was not mine to make sense of. There truly needs to be a step away. Maybe farther, then farther still. The truth of the sibling mesh up was brought about from some elder sister confusion and pride with a bit of patting on the back with a job well done. That could have been by passed. But then the silent younger sister gets to be the star of the show with her foot dragging, passive aggressiveness. While elder sib plays along, middle sib can’t find any sanity in the cultivated chaos. Attempting to make sense out of the nonsensical. To no avail except for various sleepless nights trying to find logic where logic couldn’t be found. The younger sibling’s action was truly unkind. Knowing there is likely a lot of crap hidden underneath that needs to be excavated. 

Interesting how it took me until now to name what was so off balance. What was not mine to get snagged in. The trick I know is that my head does a crazy color wheel spin trying to right what was so out of whack. And younger sib must be in such a tough spot to want to stir up conflict where no conflict needed to be. It is a simple assignment and yet she chose to make it complicated. Eldest sib joined in and I thought it all needed to make sense somehow. So, I took the path of unloading the hypothetical truck. Unpacking the hypothetical furniture. Climbing up the narrow hypothetical steps to the top of the Eiffel tower, even those steps not typically open to the public, with a chifforobe in tow. Crazy me. 

A dream helped to unleash a more honest understanding of what had transpired. As I talk shout at my siblings in my dream about not being listened to or understood, I awaken exhausted, but I also feel the pull away from the story as I become more of an observer instead of a trapped participant. It was to be lovely, the initial intent, I believe. Yet younger sib chose to muck it up and I allowed her to do just that. I did lay out my clear expectations after the initial fall out, but I shouldn’t have to. 

We all know better, my siblings and I. We can all do better. Naming what is felt. Addressing the reveal of this present story. +++
