golden frog timeline: the chronology of billions 2x11
2x11 golden frog time is perhaps the most chronologically convoluted episode of billions, because much of the episode is made up of flashbacks to a dozen different days, dated from two separate days that make up the main action of the episode, and some of these flashbacks are specifically to the events of previous episodes. this post is my attempt to put all the pieces in order.
the “present” portion of 2x11 comprises the night before the ice juice ipo (which i’m calling Day 0), from which two flashbacks are dated, and the day of the ice juice ipo (which i’m calling Day 1), from which all the rest of the flashbacks are dated. the list of flashbacks, in the order they’re shown in the episode, is as follows; flashbacks dated from Day 0 are starred.
Two Weeks Ago*: johnny and terry burke intimidate slayton in a local bar.
One Week Ago*: wags tells axe about the ice juice ipo, and axe gets the idea to sabotage it.
Six Nights Ago: hall pays for the toxin being used for the sabotage.
between Six Nights Ago and Four Nights Ago: axe discusses the toxin with dr. gilbert and pays him off.
Four Nights Ago: hall pays an ice juice employee to spread the toxin in the ice juice warehouse.
Three Nights Ago: axe meets with the burkes to ask for their help with the sabotage.
Two Days Ago: axe meets with victor mateo to ask for his help with the sabotage.
One Day Ago: axe meets with danny margolis to ask for his help with the sabotage.
Earlier Today: slayton, margolis, and victor’s housekeeper, maria gonzalez, drink the tainted ice juice.
Three Weeks Ago: chuck gets the idea to bait axe with ice juice and asks senior to invest in ice juice. this happens in 2x09, simultaneously with axe’s birthday party.
Two Weeks Ago: chuck meets with lawrence boyd and asks him to tell axe about ice juice.
Twelve Days Ago: the events of 2x10. axe visits boyd, and boyd tells axe about ice juice.
Six Days Ago: oliver dake is named interim u.s. attorney for the eastern district of new york.
between Six Days Ago and Three Days Ago: dake arrives in new york city, and chuck tells him to start following axe.
Three Nights Ago: fbi agents take photos of axe & the burkes before and after their meeting.
One Day Ago: fbi agents film maria drinking the tainted ice juice. (this conflicts with her drinking the juice being labeled as Earlier Today.)
Earlier Today: boyd calls axe to ask when he’ll start the sabotage; chuck is right behind boyd when he makes the call.
a brief shot in 3x07 not you, mr dake. gives the date of the ice juice ipo as december 1. so the events of the ice juice sabotage, in the order they happened, are as follows:
Day -20 (november 10): chuck gets the idea to bait axe with ice juice and asks senior to invest in ice juice. also, axe’s birthday party.
Day -14 (november 16): johnny and terry burke intimidate slayton in a local bar.
Day -13 (november 17): chuck meets with lawrence boyd and asks him to tell axe about ice juice.
Day -11 (november 19): the events of 2x10. axe visits boyd, and boyd tells axe about ice juice.
Day -7 (november 23): wags tells axe about the ice juice ipo, and axe gets the idea to sabotage it.
Day -5 (november 25): oliver dake is named interim u.s. attorney for the eastern district of new york. hall pays for the toxin being used for the sabotage.
between Day -5 (november 25) and Day -3 (november 27): axe discusses the toxin with dr. gilbert and pays him off.
between Day -5 (november 25) and Day -2 (november 28): dake arrives in new york city, and chuck tells him to start following axe.
Day -3 (november 27): hall pays an ice juice employee to spread the toxin in the ice juice warehouse.
Day -2 (november 28): axe meets with the burkes to ask for their help with the sabotage. fbi agents take photos of axe & the burkes before and after their meeting.
Day -1 (november 29): axe meets with victor mateo to ask for his help with the sabotage.
Day 0 (november 30): axe meets with danny margolis to ask for his help with the sabotage. ira, senior, and chuck have dinner together and discuss the ipo.
Day 1 (december 1): ice juice goes public. axe shorts ice juice. boyd calls axe to ask when he’ll start the sabotage; chuck is right behind boyd when he makes the call. slayton, margolis, and victor’s housekeeper, maria gonzalez, drink the tainted ice juice. fbi agents film maria drinking the tainted ice juice. wendy gets a piece of the ice juice short. the news of people being poisoned by ice juice spreads, and the stock tanks. axe and wags celebrate. ira and senior are crushed. chuck returns to the yale club, and he laughs, and laughs, and laughs.

We are back in action
Welcome Back All!
Apologies for the amount of time between now and the last time a post was made. The Commish enforced a media blackout due to personal reasons (bloody kids).
But we are back to see us into the end of this, another fantastic YFL season.
After week 9, and the week in which the Championship rings were commissioned from an Eastern supplier the league has taken shape.
We will start from the bottom and Gronky Kong, sitting stone-cold in 12th overall and the 4th sport in the Central Division. 3-6 for the year was not what was expected, but some poor choices in players (White selection in the 6th round) and dropping Matt Ryan the week that he got hot, there have been a few weeks of low scores. It's not looking good.
In 11th Overall and 4th in the South Division is Red Vipers. Another frustrating year for GM Paul Roberts. Also at 3-6, the team has not performed when required. A roster that contains Lemar Jackson, Derek Henry and Keenan Allan would not expect to be in such a position.
In 10th and 3rd in the South Division is Sporting Semis, who is currently on a three-game win streak at 4-5. Their fixture this week against the diamondbacs was potentially going to be marred in controversy due to the diamondbacs having not paid their required league fees. However the Sporting Semis will be looking to continue their current form with Rookie Justin Herbert throwing some dots, and Dalvin Cook continuing his dirty form fro last week. They could be on a role to the playoffs.
In 9th overall and 4th in the North Division is Mixed Veg. Also at 4-5, the team picked up a much-needed win to keep their playoff hopes alive, in a division where three of the teams are at 4-5. Mixed Veg have a solid team but will miss their cheat code player Tyreek Hill this week in their matchup against Dirty Landers. They may be hoping for more from new signing Chris Carson, then was shown for Gronky Kong.
In 8th overall and 3rd in the North Division is Take It To The House. Shock and Awe, this team is all in this year, their GM even paid their League Fees on time for the first time ever.  At 4-5, and a three-game winning streak, they look good and feeling confident. Russel Wilson has been on fire and putting up some great numbers, whilst Mike Evans may have been deemed to be a little bit of a bust this year. Nice to see this team in the mix this year though.
In 7th overall and 2nd in the South Division, another team at 4-5 is The Empire Strike Dak.  The team has benefitted from an inform Aaron Rodger, and an all-round solid team. The sneaky acquisition of Antonio Brown could be interesting but they will want TB to actually turn up their game this week against Carolina after they Saints shat on them last week.
In 6th overall and 3rd in the Central Division, at 4-5 yet again is Shy Teds. Brady has held his own this year, but maybe the hot streak has come to an end for the GOAT. An interesting team, outside of Michael Thomas, it's not a superstar team, but one that seems to be grinding.
In 5th overall and 2nd in the North Division is decs diamondbacs, again at 4-5. A consistent contender as a team, this could be another frustrating year where they miss out on the playoff, having still been one of the stronger teams. A strong team with the likes of Brees, Aaron Jones, Diggs and DJ Moore who will also put up some points. The team looked in trouble in the lead up to this week when league fees were allegedly underpaid, but this was all sorted and the team will continue as normal into week 10.
In 4th overall and 1st in the South Division is Six Birds, at 5-4. An interesting team with few superstars, but lots of consistent performers in Mongomery, Swift, Stafford, Graham (having a sneaky good season) and new boy Claypool, the team is able to continue to put up good scores.
In 3rd overall and 2nd in the Central Division is Black Hammer. They sit at 6-3, a strong team this year, but controversy has hit as league fees have not been paid. The team is on lockdown this week until the money is paid. Murray has been killing it this year, and this team is laden with class. Hunter Henry, Hines, Freeman, Gordon and Slayton. Could be a good team heading into the playoff, but issues behind the scenes could end it all.
In 2nd overall and 1st in the Central Division, at 6-3. Strong tea this year, they have been putting up some good numbers. Its comes from some good rotation and a reliance on a certain Mr Mahomes. Josh Jacobs has also contributed, and Zeke seems to be smashing this team into the playoff.
In 1st Overall and 1st in the North Division is Four Shaw at 7-2. The less said about that the better.

2020 LOAD Week 7 Preview
Alright boys, we’re friggen back. I sat at my computer watching a rant-filled groupme conversation as I flipped back and forth between the 37 tabs of the historical data LOAD spreadsheet when I came to the decision 6 weeks is long enough. No longer will you be deprived of my majestic, dare I say, God-like pen to paper fantasy football previews. That’s right, pucker up your buttholes and be ready to masturbate with your tears of joy, laughter, and distraught as I destroy each and every one of you. No Browns talk, no putting it lightly, no bullshit.
Before I start, TJ we appreciate your commissioning efforts in the 2020 season. This is not in spite, I just really missed the preview articles and is my push to somehow keep them around.
And now back to your regularly scheduled cheek spreading unadulterated fun.
“Jared, wait for this sick drop” The Injured Reserve (1-5) vs.
“Burg, I think these guys actually want to fuck me” Can’t Guard Mike (3-3)
If Jon’s not ferociously defeating the CoCo (Covid19) or nervously giggling as the Squad guys make questionable sexual advances on him, he’s putting together a solid team. I mean you can’t knock a guy with a 3-3 record when you’ve scored the most points in the LOAD. Buuut I’m going to anyway. Suck it Jon. Casey’s still recovering from drafting Joe Mixon in the first-round last year but I will say has elevated his strive for the playoffs. He even did a trade! Good job man someone had to respond to Dom eventually. Your participation in the Groupme on game days (mostly Monday nights) is welcomed and if you ever schedule a tee time at 7am that doesn’t also require a 2 hour commute I’m totally down. Unless Doug’s there I’m all set on my 401k. Unfortunately for Casey, Jon is returning Michael Thomas after his teammate altercation (HideYoWifeInNawlins?) and looks to earn a playoff spot the old-fashioned way with his record.
Jon > Cholly
 “The Snowman” SheDiggsMyCobb (0-6) vs.
“Why’s the Snowman doing all my coke” Pelting Coopers (4-2)
Bennett as much as I appreciate you on my side of the Kicker argument your record is almost making me want you on the other side. We’ve all seen the “historical” data showing where you stand but you do realize you have to get W’s or you fall behind right? This is what you get for recklessly abandoning your strong stance on a roster full of white players only housing 4 on the roster? And to think we all depended on you. Dom I have to say we all enjoy you a lot more without the bullshit time advantage our previous waiver wire system afforded you. The FAAB system has given us all new found time and sleep on our hands but unfortunately for you has also opened the door to the testing facility every other Wednesday. No one blames you with the LA puh and that hair of yours. Speaking of trade rapes, no one talks enough about the Hunt for Edelman straight up during a tough Browns opener and an extremely intoxicated Chad. Well done sir, whether ethical or not, well done. Bennett stays as defeated as his meat on page 113 of XNXX and counting, and takes the L.
Salami > Benito
“What’d you say you use to slow balding?  My friend was wondering” Dj Play Moore Drake (2-4) vs.
“Bro check it it’s River, like Rocky River, where I live, get it?!?!” jared donovan’s team
Man, I’ve seen few people more confident than Paul heading into the season. He had the mock drafts, the magazines, the insiders, hell even Reddit! And yet here we are. You all thought I was trade raped but yet here. we. are. Our loving Paul with the closest thing to an unbreakable spirit, almost broken. I do think there’s potential for a rebound this year, but Jared is totally trying now and never was before last year so it won’t happen this week. New house, new puppy, same Jared. Guy throws a moving party on my birthday weekend of all weekends. Just when you think Jared can’t surprise you any more, he gives me an entire day to show off how fucking big I am in front of all my friends. No ladies, your boyfriend is still not bigger than me.  Thanks again dude it was the highlight of my 2020. Jared somehow gets one of the top QB’s in the league AND Darius Slayton for a rookie QB potentially on the rise and he’s in a spot to continue to do some damage in the LOAD. Paul, you’re going to need one of Jared’s 3 hour long showers to recover from this beatdown.
Jerry > Pav
“I’m not triggered but CEH’s game was undisputedly the 1st game of the year” 2 Younghoes 1 Kupp (4-2) vs.
“Wait I don’t have Wentz anymore?” Under the Influwentz (2-4)
A Mr. Douglas Yeckley is the latest to join the fiancé gang and I personally can’t wait until I hit my annual quota of 1 face to face hang out at the Secret Santa to congratulate him in person. I’m still trying to figure out if he checks his email more than the groupme and actually knows he’s the second-best fantasy manager in the LOAD. Yahoo favors the autodraft, can’t wait to see how he does without it next year :) Sam, Sam, Sam. Trying to determine how I feel about writing this on your birthday. I can hate on your dedication to Fantasy as much as I want, but gosh darnit do I have to respect it. Especially with Ashley calling all of your shots this year. We all know she’s been the brains behind this operation this year. Just wait bud, that spreads into all decisions you make real soon. The old “well her lease is up so it makes sense” is how it alllll starts my friend. Won’t be long until that hair of yours starts to look like mine and Pauls. And just because I always root against you, I’m sticking to my guns.
Fur > Sammy
“You said she’s 18? Nah too old for me” Street Charks (3-3) vs.
Dad (6-0)
Battle of the daddys. Chad out on the streets, and Shawn in the burb life. I’ve been sitting here trying to determine which one of their kids has a better chance of coming out with a bomber on. History repeats itself so I think we have the answer. It’s not often I’m called a trend setter, but this may be the start. Shawn needs to watch out as Chad’s newly shaved arms not only make him look more jacked, aerodynamic when he fights, but it also packs an extra punch in fantasy. Shawn’s the only remaining undefeated team left, but I feel the walls are closing in on him with some injuries to the roster. Even as he’s reading this Chad’s defending Shawn in his head, and giggling as he hears “Right Shawn?” “No, left Shawn”. Just hoping I can get one random, witty comment from Shawn in the groupme from this and I’ll feel accomplished. You’re upset of the week boys, you heard it here first.
Wardog > Carothers
 ***Game of Ze Week***
“It’s actually classified as hair-thinning, that’s all” Kickers & Defense (4-2) vs.
“Oh yeah? Well my friends all tell me I’m the best commish they’ve ever had” Tony Time (3-3)
If you thought I was going through all of this trouble to write this and not putting myself as the game of the week you’re dumber than Malik. And with that, I’ll lead into a fan favorite, story time:
It’s a brisk Fall morning amidst a global pandemic but more importantly, fantasy season. The squad members have begun to wake and start their days. It’s Friday, so Solden has already been trying to get the troops going as Chad frantically thinks of things to talk about. A small tickle from his mustache causes Tony to slowly open his eyes, taking in a deep breath as Petey licks his face. It’s a calm 8:45, so he still has time to drink his coffee outside before starting his day. As he scrolls among the 37 groupme notifications he figures, why not download the Yahoo app and see what’s going on. Notifications? Hmm I wonder what that could be. His eyes widen. Mouth drops. Sweat begins to pour as The Darth Vader coffee mug slips from his grasp. *Justin Herbert – Questionable (ribs)* *Dionte Johnson – Out (back)*
*Clyde Edwards-Helaire  – Questionable (Ankle)*. This can’t be he says. I rallied them all yesterday it mustn’t be! These trades were fool proof! He frantically sprints over to the computer as Petey sits next to his empty food bowl. “At a time like this?!? Not now Petey!!!” He repeats in his head chant-like “The spreadsheet will have the answers, the spreadsheet will have the answers” as he frantically logs in. No…   No it can’t be…. He had it saved to the desktop he’d just edited it the night before for 9 hours! Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!
“Tj wake up” He jumps. He checks his mustache to make sure it’s still there. It was just a dream. And all is right in the world again.
Solden > Tj
What’s that Jon? I can’t hear you with Trumps dick in your mouth. Boom Roasted.
Tj is your full-time job as a Commissioner or at Park Place? Boom Roasted.
Dom a 3 is still a 3 in LA we all see the snaps. Boom Roasted.
Shawn locked yourself out of your house lately? Boom Roasted.
Sam when’s the coronavirus peak coming? Boom Roasted.
Jared it’s going away right after the election, right? Boom Roasted.
Doug I’m not talking about work at Secret Santa. Boom Roasted.
Chad a 3 is still a 3 in Lakewood we all see the snaps. Boom Roasted.
Casey I miss driving you to O’Bleness. Boom Roasted.
Paul I’m writing this while I’m working from home at home. Boom Roasted.
Bennett I’m writing this while I’m working from home at home. Boom Roasted.
Malik you’re an idiot and can’t read this. Boom Roasted.
Damn that felt good. Until next time boys. Solden out.

The Den Fantasy League Weekly Recap: Week 5
Boys, Boys, Boys,
We’re in the thick of it. COVID has taken its toll in our league (some more than others) and we’re working on keeping up to date with all the changes going on. It’s a league effort and I’m grateful for your flexibility. On to the recap.
Team Timshel v. Tua Days
Vinny has seen some highs and lows from his team. Coming into this game at .500 he thought he had a chance to get into the win column again but his team couldn’t muster up enough to even surpass 100 points on the weekend. All but three of his players had double figures and was led by CeeDee but was impacted by the Bengals Defense limiting Lamar to only 13.5 (*Berman Voice* HUUUUHHHHH?????) Speaking of Defense, the other one in that game was the highest scorer for Mike this week at 25 and he also had Russ’s 24+ to help get him in position to take down Vin. Unfortunately for Vinny, there was still one game left on Tuesday. Derrick Henry used up all his pent-up energy from not playing in almost two weeks to stiff-arm Josh Norman into oblivion and get 18+ points to seal Mike’s victory.
Tumblr media
Kalabar’s Revenge v. The Perfect Ten
The two former roommates faced off this week and it paired up our undefeated, October powerhouse G vs. our two-time champ E. G went with Minshew mania to help get his team to victory and he got a solid start with 19+ points. He was also aided by Dalvin and Ridley scoring 17+ points but ultimately came our flat in too many other areas including his RB2 and Flex combining for 1.8 points. Not great. He was also going up against this week’s highest scorer which doesn’t help. E had 24+ from three different players (DK, Davis, and Mahomes) and was held up by them despite having -4 from his D. E’s team might be hitting their stride at the right time and looking for his third title in five years. Dynasty status?
Tumblr media
Virginia Reel Rockets v. Mr. Magorium’s Mixon It Up
On to another Ryle boy taking on Alexandria’s own. Gabe was facing half of a Kurse this week and thought he had overcome the bad juju. He has resisted getting Lupin involved thus far but that may have to change. He finally had a big game from Brees and 30+ points combined from two of his WRs but just couldn’t muster up enough to reach 100 points. Al has seen himself at the bottom for the early parts of this young season but now has picked up two wins and is one game off of being even. It helps to have three players in the twenties with Murray, Gurley, and Hopkins. Al’s team still isn’t the best but it’s going to take a lot of effort to win the league this year and, if you’re crafty enough, you may be able to win it all.
Tumblr media
Wilmore Cinderella v. Viking Quest
JP and Monday nights, a match made in hell. JP going into MNF with a lead is basically a loss. I don’t know what it’s going to take but the poor kid can’t seem to overcome the dreaded day of the week. What makes it worse is that he is now in CB territory for the second time in our league’s short existence. He had good games from Deshaun, Jacobs, and Freeman but other than his kicker everyone else was in single-figures. He even had -5 from his defense which never helps the cause. I was lucky enough to have a decent week despite having less than seven points from my QB. I’m done with the Falcons. DONE. NEVER AGAIN. Thankfully, I had some guys to pick me up. On Monday we had great help from Kennan and Hunter but it all comes down to one man. My highest scorer. My ride or die. Travis Kelce. Now to get back my COVID boys and, in the words of Coach Cal, “I like my team.” Eh, kinda.
Tumblr media
Fire Jarn v. 11-4-1 PVO
In our matchup of the year, we were all left wanting more. Year after year, we were treated with a Dylan win over Rob. Dylan in some ways would count on that game as a win. He saw it similar to a cupcake matchup for an easy win. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the year. Dylan, who has now seen his record fall to 1-4, still was able to put up a decent week thanks to Zeke and Gano putting up 20+ and a near 17 from Slayton. Yet this week was all Rob. Our second-highest scorer on the week came to play. He had pretty good consistency across the board and was led by Sloppy and Miles. He also had good games from Hill, A-Rob, and his fellow Robbie to take the victory. In a matchup of 1-3 teams, Robbie begins to change the narrative of his ability to beat Dylan.
Tumblr media
Hank Mardukas v. Debbie Rowe
This game. What a game. We’ll get to Tuesday night but first, let’s look at all the other factors that played into this game. Jake came in at 3-1 and was looking like a Team of Destiny. He, unfortunately, hit a snag. A snag called “half of Kurse”. He had a good game from Teddy, Carson, and Hunt but some roster decisions left him with regret (benching his little Cooper Kupp in favor of Jefferson). Scott had good games from Gaskin, Thielen, and Hollywood but saw his star QB fall with a season-ending injury. Scott was doing everything he could to muster up a win and finally sealed one on Monday night but then got bullied into putting his win on the line by playing Buff D. No way they could get -4. No way… right? They teased Jake as much as they could but all in all, they sealed the victory for Scott. Scott’s now out his top QB and his top RB. With this win, maybe the Team of Destiny tag should be moved to him. After all, Jake can’t close…

So close to Auburn football....
Not long after Auburn’s beat down of the poor Boilermakers, I took a stupid early stab at Auburn’s potential 2019 depth chart. I did the same after signing day and in late July following spring practice. Today, Gus Malzahn released the official version.
Auburn's official depth chart for Oregon, featuring six (!) possible starters at running back: pic.twitter.com/8aHFZ8WvG2
— Josh Vitale (@JoshVitale) August 27, 2019
First off, I am not completely surprised by literally everyone being listed as a potential starter at running back. I thought maybe Boobee might be given the distinction of top guy without the OR and everyone else sharing the #2 duties. I have a hard time seeing all six backs touching the ball each week but it will be interesting to see how they are utilized this season. Carnell Williams has reportedly pushed Gus hard to use a true rotation in 2019. We will find out Saturday if that will be the case
At wide receiver, it looks like Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz are co-starters at the 9 (same spot Darius Slayton played last season) which is interesting. If Schwartz can’t go then Williams will be the guy. If he can, I am guessing Seth will slide back to the 5 where Sal is listed as the current starter. I expect to see a lot of Matthew Hill especially considering the concerns around how healthy Eli Stove might be at kickoff.
What jumps out on the offensive line is Jalil Irvin locking down the #2 spot at right guard. I was high on Irvin coming out of high school though thought his future was at center. There should be a really good 4 man battle in the interior of Auburn’s OL next season between Tashawn Manning, Nick Brahms, Jalil Irvin and Keiondre Jones.
Interesting that Moultry was not listed as the sole starter at Buck. I am hoping that means Big Kat has put together an equally (or at least close to it) fall camp as Moultry.
Awesome to see Tyrone Truesdell earn a starting spot. His spot in Auburn’s class three years ago was far from guaranteed but he patiently waited to see if the Tigers would land Ryan Johnson. When they didn’t he jumped all over the opportunity. The first time Auburn fans saw him he was getting his butt chewed off by Rodney for being lazy during a drill. Now he’s a starter. Cheering for him to have a big season.
A new designation appears on the defensive depth chart in the form of OLB. Could this be a way to just get Nick Coe listed as a starter since he’s expected to play literally everywhere on the line? Probably but I will be interested to see if there are any looks where Coe is lined up as an outside backer opposite the Buck.
No surprises at linebacker. Travis Williams has been clear that those four will see the bulk of snaps. My prediction is KJ Britt and Owen Pappoe are the first two linebackers on the field Saturday.
Not much to mention at secondary besides Nehemiah Pritchett being the only true freshman to make it the two deep. He’s one of the fastest players on this team and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him become a top cover corner for the Tigers in the very near future. A little surprised Zion Puckett is not listed as the 2nd or 3rd team guy at the Star.
It appears no one has won the punt return job just yet but the 3 man race is down to 2. I would not be surprised to see Auburn give both guys a chance Saturday.
Love seeing Shaun Shivers on kick return.
Some interesting names missing from this two deep, most noticeably Marquis McClain. If he was going to make the move you would think it would have been this offseason with Auburn’s top 4 wide receivers being limited.

Buying one of Scout’s top-of-the-line boats gets you VIP treatment and a peek into the boating industry’s top-shelf customer service. (Richard Steinberger/)
“Welcome to the Belmond Charleston Place,” said the young valet cheerily as he opened my passenger door. “Are y’all staying with us tonight?”
We stepped into an unseasonably warm January day. The tang of sea air was unmistakable; it was almost a shame to go inside, leaving the bustle of downtown Charleston behind.
Almost.
The hotel lobby shone, from its sweeping grand staircase to the golden, glittering lights. Jazz music and a low murmur of conversation flowed from the direction of the Thoroughbred Room, and shiny brand names beckoned from what was clearly a high-end shopping area.
The Belmond Charleston Place proved to be a wonderful starting part for the journey into Scout’s VIP treatment. (Richard Steinberger/)
We approached the registration counter.
“I’m Heather Steinberger,” I began, “and we have a reservation…”
“Oh yes, Mr. and Mrs. Steinberger, with Scout Boats,” the young man responded with a warm smile. “We’ve been expecting you. Your room is ready, and please enjoy our complimentary gourmet hors d’oeuvres and cocktails on the Club Level this evening.”
We collected our luggage and turned toward the elevators.
“Oh, Mrs. Steinberger,” he called out. “Congratulations on your new boat!”
Take the VIP Tour
In the interest of full disclosure, we did not buy a boat. Rather, we were on assignment: Travel to coastal South Carolina and slip into the shoes of new Scout 380 LXF owners. We wanted to find out how this particular boatbuilder has taken its customer experience to the next level, one that has more in common with luxury automobiles and even luxury homes than with fishing boats.
We quickly realized this wasn’t going to be any old customer-service experience. It began as soon as we pulled into the parking lot at Scout’s boatbuilding facility in Summerville, 25 miles northwest of Charleston. We found our own designated parking space adjacent to the front doors, and when we entered the lobby, a sign welcomed us by name.

I’d barely had an opportunity to admire the branded merchandise available for purchase—including the fancy Yeti mugs I coveted—before Alan Lang, director of sales and marketing, introduced himself with a broad grin and ushered us onto the production floor.
This isn’t unusual for Lang. It’s part of his job, and he handles it with genuine enthusiasm. If you purchase a Scout and wish to make the trip to Summerville to see your boat, Lang will take care of all the arrangements: airport transfers, a factory tour, quality time in the new design studio, hotel accommodations, even dinner reservations at a Charleston hotspot. He’ll also get you out on the water.
“Some customers will visit five or six times, from around the country and overseas,” he said. “They’re all excited to visit. Not only is it a beautiful destination, the Lowcountry is home to their boat and the people who built it.”
Lang says Scout’s customers are split 50-50 between those who use the boats as their primary vessels and those who are adding to an existing fleet. In the latter case, many Scouts will serve as yacht tenders. That includes the 38- to 53-footers coming to life in Building D.
“The 53 is a roughly $2.5 million boat, but the final price tag depends on the customer,” Lang explained. “We had a Middle Eastern royal family who threw six 450 hp Mercs on it and customized everything they could.”

Other recent Scout 53s went to a Vegas casino owner and a Latin pop star. Naturally, we were curious, but Lang wasn’t about to kiss and tell.
“You probably could guess who they are,” he said with a wink. I made a mental note to confer with the internet later.
Watching the Build
When we went to the production floor, it was humming with activity. Immediately, I noticed a crew hand-laying fiberglass.
Scout Boats uses 6-to-12 member crews to hand-lay fiberglass on an exact laminate schedule. (Richard Steinberger/)
“We produce the only 100 percent hand-laid fishing boat on the market,” Lang explained. “Instead of one person with a chopper gun, we’ll have six to 12 people hand-laying fiberglass in a multidirectional pattern to an exact laminate schedule. That means tolerances are tightly controlled by our engineers. We can eliminate 60 percent of extra resin for a strong hull, with no extra weight.”
As we continued our walk, Lang called attention to the high-density foam-core composites, which won’t ingest water and start rotting, and the heavy-duty methacrylate bonding material for two-engine boats 25 feet and up.
“Putty would work just fine,” Lang observed. “This is total overkill.”
In addition, each boat’s deck fits neatly inside the hull; the lip is on top rather than underneath, and a rub rail covers the seam. I hadn’t given this much thought, but the hydrodynamics make perfect sense. It’s kind of a reverse-shoebox design. When the boat is underway, the water pushes the sides of the hull inward, and the deck provides support.
On our way to see the testing, inspection and detailing areas, we caught a glimpse of Building C, home to research and development. This is the daily workspace for Steve Potts, Scout Boats’ founder and president, and his son Stevie, vice president of research and development.
When I observed that it’s increasingly rare for boat companies to remain in the hands of family founders, Lang nodded.
“Steve started the company in his garage,” he said. “He’s been a boatbuilder since his teens, and he says he still thinks of himself that way. Stevie has been involved since his childhood.
“The two of them have done every single job here, and they still work hard—as hard or maybe harder than everyone else,” he continued. “The employees respect them, and they all take pride in seeing the boats on the water and the clothing around town. ‘Family owned’ means something.”
The wiring is installed in meticulous fashion. (Richard Steinberger/)
We were eager to see Building D, an 85-percent-efficient structure with motion-sensor lighting and 1,342 rooftop solar panels. This is the birthplace of the largest models in the Scout fleet, including our 380 LXF.
“In the 380, we use a hull epoxy infused with carbon fiber and e-glass,” Lang said. “It’s the entire hull, not just the keel, so you really get the strength and weight benefits. We’re the only production boatbuilder to use hand-laid, epoxy-infused carbon fiber. It’s aerospace-caliber.”
We spotted 380s in various stages of completion. Lang walked up to one and pulled down a thick document.
“This is the boat’s birth certificate,” he said. “Each boat has one. It documents who did what, and when. It’s usually 10 to 12 pages. It tells you everything about the boat’s life since day one.”
Design Dynamics
Walking through an unassuming glass door on a second-story landing, we immediately found ourselves in another world. We’d entered the design studio.
The design studio offers a chance to get hands-on with the plethora of options available at Scout Boats. (Richard Steinberger/)
“This is where our owners get a reprieve, where they can take a breath after touring the factory,” said Josh Slayton, a Scout Boats concierge captain who joined us in the studio. “We want to bring them back to the luxury side of this experience.”
With a smile, Lang handed us a bag. My husband pulled out his-and-hers Scout Boats caps, a Williams Edisto oyster knife, and a bottle of the Animo Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon from California’s Rob Mondavi Jr., a Scout boat owner himself.
New owners receive a bottle of the Animo Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon from California’s Rob Mondavi Jr., a Scout boat owner himself. (Richard Steinberger/)
There was something else: a Scout Boats Yeti mug.
Looking up, I spotted a large projection screen welcoming us to this elegant design space.
“We built the design studio just for people like you,” Lang said. “We looked at high-end car dealerships, and we wanted to give people something special.”
As I walked around the room, I ran my hands along the many available steering wheels, exterior vinyls and captain’s chairs, including custom teak seats. I studied the electronics displays and color books, and I examined the room’s centerpiece island, featuring every possible appliance you might want.
Buyers can customize a number of things, including electronics, on their new boat. (Richard Steinberger/)
“This is a touch-and-feel room, not a sales room,” Slayton observed. “The purchasing decision is made by the time people get here, so this is about getting involved in the process, and making the boat your own.”
It’s also about seeing how cold that built-in wine cooler will keep your Champagne.
Instead of toasting our new purchase at the design studio’s well-appointed little bar, we opted to join Lang and Slayton aboard a 380 LXF for a quick boat ride down the Wando River to Charleston. This was our opportunity to see the high-end fit and finish on a 38-foot fishing boat that retails for more than $900,000.
Some of my favorite features on the 380 LXF included a side beach platform with hull cutout, a walkable transom with no splashwells, the standard Seakeeper 3 gyrostabilizer, and a rear aft-facing lounge seat that converted to a nifty summer kitchen. The patented retractable rocket launchers, designed to protect both the rods and the SureShade, were a nice touch—as were the four color-matched Mercury 350 Verado V-8 outboards, and the transparent livewell lids.
“We want people to be able to showcase what the hull is made of,” Lang said. I got a kick out of the automotive-style key fob that could start the boat remotely, and the large Garmin touchscreen helm displays that provided all necessary functionality. When I asked about backups, Slayton pointed upward.
“The boat is set up like a Tesla,” he explained. “We have redundancies, but we keep the switches out of your line of sight.”
I took a peek down below. The 380 has a large cabin, with a convertible queen berth, well-appointed galley, enclosed head with shower, and plenty of headroom.
“This is a gentleman’s fishing boat,” Lang said. “You can go fishing, and you can take it for dinner in Charleston.”
A trip down the Wando River showed off the combo of luxury and power available on a Scout. (Richard Steinberger/)
We motored from Ralston Creek into the Wando River. Slayton pointed the bow south toward Charleston, and the 380 roared to life. As we charged beneath the bridges toward the city, he explained he does exactly this with each new boat owner.
“As a concierge captain, I work with the dealers to prep the boat and take care of all the details, and then I spend at least one or two days with the owners, making sure they’re comfortable with the boat,” he said. “I focus on performance, functionality and features.”
Lang also added: “Our customers have my cellphone number, and I answer calls and texts 24/7. When Josh gets involved, he’s on their speed dial. We’re happy to do it. It’s a relationship, and we all become friends.”
The Royal Treatment
Back at the hotel, it was hard to leave the margaritas and appetizers, including fresh ahi tuna and spicy gumbo, on the Club Level. But Lang was scheduled to pick us up for dinner, and we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to experience Hall’s Chophouse; rumor had it, one must either wait months for a reservation or know someone. Thankfully, we knew someone.
Owner Bill Hall stood in the doorway, greeting customers with a handshake as they entered his upscale restaurant. He knew Lang by first name, and Champagne arrived at our table as soon as we sat down.
Slayton joined us, and he and Lang insisted that we order any delicacies we desired. Together, we savored oysters Rockefeller, a rich concoction known as “bacon steak,” tender bison filets, caramelized Brussels sprouts, and lobster mac ’n’ cheese.
We topped it off with the best bread pudding I’ve ever tasted, hands down. It wasn’t on the menu that night, but again, it’s who you know.
Throughout the meal, locals approached our table to greet Lang and exchange pleasantries. We gathered that many were Scout owners, just like the gentleman who stopped us as we were leaving.
“I heard you just bought a Scout,” he said. “Oh man, you’re gonna love it.”
After dinner, Lang turned to the pedicabs lined up outside in the street, and he directed us to enter one of them.
Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails were just part of what made the Belmond Charleston Place so inviting. (Richard Steinberger/)
“Take them to the Belmond Charleston Place,” he said to the driver, and he turned to give me a hug. “This is part of your experience. Go have a nightcap in the Thoroughbred Room and enjoy the hotel. And the next time you’re here, be sure to give me a call.”
We fell silent as the driver pedaled us swiftly away down the street. All too soon, the elegant fountain outside the Belmond splashed into view, and we pulled up in front of the valets. Pedaling into the Lowcountry night, our driver called over his shoulder, “Hey, I heard you bought a boat! Congratulations!”

The OSG Fantasy Report Week 15
This week is really about seeking motivation and targeting games with 4 full quarters to be played and players who “want” to win
Quarterback
Baker Mayfield.  Gets a good matchup in a dome despite being on the road.  Similar to when we fired him up in stacks vs Miami, this game vs AZ could get back and forth.  Battle of the Sooner QBs.
Jimmy G.  Projects decent if they are forced to pass.  He has had a hot hand and that should continue vs a defense of Atlanta where we just don’t know which unit will show up each week.
Ryan Tannehill vs Deshaun Watson.  Both teams are highly motivated in the highest game total of the week.  This could help determine the AFC South and both defenses can be giving.  Division game, so don’t be surprised if game goes under, yet the best players usually show up in these games.
Jameis Winston.  He’s in a dome vs Detroit, a spot we have attacked all season.   Do not stop now.  Stack him with Godwin.  Monitor the health of his thumb
Dak Prescott vs Jared Goff.  Big battle in the dome, though the running game may be the spot to target.  Both teams are fighting for their playoff lives Sunday in a high game total.
Russell Wilson.  The masses are rightfully flocking to Chris Carson.  Pivoting to the passing would be a sneaky tournament play.
Kyler Murray.  At home in a dome vs Cleveland.  His production has been down a little but maybe due to the hamstring injury.  Could be easily stacked with Kirk and may go overlooked.  Battle of the Sooner QBs
Patrick Mahomes.  I think Denver’s riding high time with Lock comes crashing down in KC, and the blowout is on.  Mahomes 3-4 TD explosion we have been waiting on is incoming.
Running Back
Phillip Lindsay.  If you think Denver keeps it close, Lindsay is a great play.  Playing against the worst run defense is always a plus matchup in close games.
Chris Carson.  Facing one of the worst run defenses with No Penny to take away goaline carries.  He is priced like he is in a RB by committee in a favorable matchup in a game they need to win.
Derrick Henry.  If the hammy is ok, you need no advice to fire up Mr. November and December in a great matchup in a very meaningful game.
Josh Jacobs.  If active, he’s a very good play.  I just hate that Oakland has been free falling but so have the Jags and their run defense as of late.  It’s the last home game for Oakland and should be fired up.  IF he’s out, fire up Deandre Washington.
Boston Scott.  Cheap pass catching RB for Philly in a depleted offense.
Saquan Barkley.  Matchup driven.  It’s been a rough season here, but if any spot is the spot, this is the week vs Miami.  The cheat codes
Nick Chubb/Kareem Hunt.  Both are in play.  There is still some upside in Chubb.  He is getting the 100 yards, just less TDs with Hunt in play.  But the big play in Chubb is in effect vs AZ.
Aaron Jones.  May be one of my favorite RBs of the week.  The good Bears defense is giving up production to opposing RBs, especially those catching passes.  Jones has been heavily involved in the passing game.
Raheem Mostert.  In a plus matchup and is in control of the backfield finally.  Vs Atlanta and favored at home is great.
Dalvin Cook.  Always must be mentioned.  He will be overlooked in a road West Coast matchup.
Christian McCaffrey.  Price is up.  Despite playing for nothing, the Panthers keep his workload secure which is great for fantasy.
Kenyan Drake.  Finally sees a plus matchup vs Cleveland.
Ezekiel Elliott vs Todd Gurley.  Gurley’s workload is back as the teams best offensive weapon.  If Dallas took the same approach of feeding their best option, their playoff picture would look much better.  Assuming good coaching takes over, both should see a good workload.
Wide Receiver
Kenny Golladay/Danny Amendola.  At home in the dome vs Tampa’s secondary is all you need to know.  Can take the discount on Amendola with Marvin Jones, Jr. ruled out.  A very narrow target tree is likely here.
DK Metcalf/Tyler Lockett.  Both have been quiet, and EVERYBODY IS PLAYING CHRIS CARSON.  If Russ gets going, it should directly affect one of the WRs in a very plus matchup vs Carolina.
Jarvis Landry/Odell Beckham.  Tough year for Beckham, but this is a plus matchup for both.  Landry’s consistent floor and target share are a plus in this matchup.  Either can be fired up with Baker Baker Touchdown Maker.
Emanuel Sanders/Deebo Samuel.  Great stack mates with Jimmy G.
Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepherd, Golden Tate.  Maybe by price, but this trio with no Engram playing Miami needs to be in your pool this week in a favorable matchup.  Can’t play them all and I’m not stacking with noodle arm Eli.
Chris Godwin.  No Evans.  He’s a must play in the dome if Winston is active.
DJ Moore.  Playable every week as a WR filler.  Cheap #1 WR.
Amari Cooper/Michael Gallup.  Both in play at home despite facing a good secondary.  Both teams play at a fast pace, so volume alone should drive up fantasy numbers here.
Deandre Hopkins/Will Fuller.  Great to stack with Watson.  If Fuller is active yes it takes away 2-3 targets from Hopkins, but Watson’s production spikes when Fuller is active.
Greg Ward.  Cheap WR filler.  The WR core in Philly is depleted and behind Ertz and Goedert, may be the best WR option for Philly.
AJ Brown.  Should continue to see work in the low volume Titans pass game.  So, approach with caution.  He is however the #1 WR for a team at a cheap price.
Christian Kirk.  Great WR filler at low price.  Clearly the #1 option for Murray in a game where the Sooners QB Heisman winners will want to show each other up.
Davante Adams.  No Michael Thomas on the main slate, Adams probably has the most consistent floor and target share at WR from his QB.
Tyreek Hill.  If Mahomes blows up this is the guy.  Chris Harris has not been the dominant CB as of late, and Hill is outright hard to run with.  Weather could keep passing down a bit.
Courtland Sutton.  Has to be mentioned every week.  No matter the matchup, or QB, keeps producing at high levels for his price
Tight End
David Njoku.  He was eased in last week, so if his snaps elevate this week, he is in the matchup of all matchups for TEs vs AZ.  It’s every week cheat code, so he is definitely on our radar.
Ian Thomas.  Saw 10 targets last week filling in for Olsen and gets an even better matchup for TEs this week.
Noah Fant.  Could sneak in for some targets and a TE vs the KC defense.
George Kittle.  Good stack with Jimmy G.  TE is a better matchup vs Atlanta than WRs.  Big game could be incoming.
Zach Ertz.  Will be the defacto #1 WR here vs Washington.  Volume Volume Volume.
Tyler Higbee.  Decent matchup but has been on fire since Gerald Everett went down.  Not the biggest “name” amongst the stars in Dallas or for the Rams, and could go overlooked, but should see the second most targets behind Woods and Gurley touches vs Dallas.
Darren Waller.  Renfrow out.  Moreau out.  Targets should be up even more.  TD has to come eventually.
Travis Kelce.  Always in play when Mahomes is healthy and are heavily favored.
Austin Hooper.  Not the greatest of matchups but unless the Falcons are shut out (which is possible) Hooper is the #1 or 1A WR behind Julio Jones with no Calvin Ridley.
Defense.
New England Patriots.  Big D line advantage vs Dalton.  If put under pressure we could see old Andy, and not new Andy.
Philadelphia Eagles.  Huge D line matchup (and O Line for that matter) and games are won in the trenches.  If under pressure constantly should be a long day for Haskins full of sacks and turnovers.
SF 49ers.  D line mismatch here as well and we have seen how bad it gets for Atlanta when Ryan cannot be protected.
Washington Redskins.  I like their price and floor as of late.  They have not been the walk over defense despite their record.  The offense is the problem in Washington, and Callahan is an old school coach.  Run the ball, play defense.  With limited offensive weapons in Philly, it could make sense.

Aleksei Leonov, First to Walk in Space, Dies at 85
Aleksei Leonov, the Russian cosmonaut who became the first person to walk in space, a thrilling feat that nearly cost him his life but raised Soviet prestige during the Cold War space race against the United States, died on Friday in Moscow. He was 85.
His death was announced by Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, on its website.
The milestone achievement by Mr. Leonov, a major in the Soviet Air Force at the time, showed that men could survive in space outside the confines of their craft and presumably walk on the moon one day.
His spacewalk, in March 1965, was seen by television viewers in the Soviet Union and Europe on videotape. Later in the mission, a live telecast showed Mr. Leonov and a fellow cosmonaut strapped in their seats in the cabin.
The spacewalk enabled the Russians once again to upstage the United States in space; they had launched the first satellite, Sputnik, in October 1957 and the first manned spaceflight into orbit, with Yuri Gagarin, in April 1961.
Edward H. White II of the United States Air Force carried out America’s first spacewalk some two and half months later, leaving his two-man Gemini 4 capsule for 20 minutes.
Mr. Leonov would have likely been the first Russian to walk on the moon had the Soviet Union not given up on its lunar ambitions. In 1975, he took part in a pioneering linkup in orbit of Soviet and American spaceships that ultimately led to creation of the International Space Station.
He emerged from his two-man Voskhod 2 for his spacewalk on March 18, 1965, while the spacecraft was orbiting above Earth at some 18,000 miles an hour. He spent about 10 minutes maneuvering, tethered to it with a cord.
“As far as I can remember, I was concentrating fully, cold blooded and relatively unexcited,” Mr. Leonov wrote in a first-person account in Life magazine two months later. “The sight was spectacular! The stars do not blink. The sun seems welded into the black velvet of the sky. The earth alone speeds along.”
What Mr. Leonov did not reveal until many years later was that he and his fellow cosmonaut, Pavel I. Belyayev, who was also an Air Force pilot, were fortunate to have survived.
Mr. Leonov’s specially designed suit had unexpectedly inflated during his walk, and its bulk was preventing him from getting back inside the Voskhod.
“I knew I could not afford to panic, but time was running out,” he recalled in the book “Two Sides of the Moon” (2004), written with the astronaut David Scott, about their experiences in space.
Mr. Leonov slowly deflated the suit by releasing oxygen from it, a procedure that threatened to leave him without life support. But with the reduced bulk, he finally made it inside.
“I was drenched with sweat, my heart racing,” he remembered.
But that, he added, “was just the start of dire emergencies which almost cost us our lives.”
The oxygen pressure in the spacecraft rose to a dangerous level, introducing the prospect that a spark in the electrical system could set off a disastrous explosion or fire.
It returned to a tolerable level, but the cosmonauts never figured out the reason for the surge.
When it came time for the return to Earth, the spacecraft’s automatic rocket-firing system did not work, forcing the cosmonauts to conduct imprecise manual maneuvers during the descent that left them in deep snow and freezing temperatures in a remote Russian forest, far from their intended landing point.
It took several hours for a search party to find them and drop supplies from a helicopter, and they spent two nights in the forest, the first one inside their spacecraft and the second one in a small log cabin built by a ground rescue crew, until rescuers on skis, They then took a 12-mile ski trek to a clearing, where a helicopter evacuated them.
Nearly four years after his spacewalk, Mr. Leonov had another brush with death.
In January 1969, a car in which he was riding with three other former cosmonauts — part of a motorcade that included the Soviet leader Leonid I. Brezhnev — was entering the Kremlin for a celebration marking the docking of two Russian spaceships when a man wielding a pistol in each hand opened fire. The car carrying Mr. Leonov was hit by 14 bullets, which shattered the windows and killed the driver.
“I looked down and saw two bullet holes on each side of my coat where the bullets passed through,” Mr. Leonov told The New York Times Magazine in 1994. “A fifth bullet passed so close to my face, I could feel it going by. When it was over, Brezhnev took me inside and told me, ‘Those bullets were not meant for you, Aleksei, they were meant for me, and for that, I apologize.’”
The gunman had apparently fired on Mr. Leonov’s car thinking Brezhnev was inside, but his car had already peeled off from the motorcade. He was quickly captured, declared insane and sentenced to a mental institution.
In July 1975, Mr. Leonov, flying with Valery N. Kubasov, took part in the good-will mission in which his Soyuz 19 spacecraft docked in orbit with an American Apollo spaceship carrying three astronauts. The cosmonauts and the astronauts exchanged gifts and spent nearly 50 hours together, conducting scientific experiments.
Mr. Leonov, an accomplished amateur artist, presented the astronauts — Thomas P. Stafford, Vance D. Brand and Deke Slayton — with sketches he had drawn of them during joint training.
The cosmonauts were later greeted by President Gerald R. Ford on a visit to the White House, and the American spacemen toured the Soviet Union as guests of the cosmonauts.
Aleksei Arkhipovich Leonov was born on May 30, 1934, in the Siberian village of Listvyanka, one of 12 children. His father, Arkhip, a former coal miner who had become a farmer, was sent to a Soviet prison when Aleksei was 3, having been falsely denounced as an enemy of the state, but was released after several years.
When Aleksei was 6, he met a Soviet pilot and became enthralled by aviation. He was admitted to flight-training school, joined the Air Force, flew jet fighters and served as a test pilot. He was among the first group selected for cosmonaut training, in 1960.
He later became director of the cosmonaut corps and retired from the Soviet space program in 1992 as a major general.
Mr. Leonov lived near Moscow, had business interests and spoke around the world on space travel.
He and his wife, Svetlana, a writer and editor, had two daughters, Viktoria and Oksana. There was no immediate word on his survivors.
In 1969, Mr. Leonov was sitting in front of a television when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first moonwalkers as part of the Apollo 11 flight. Though he knew he would never fulfill his dream of walking on the moon, he saw a larger picture that day.
“Everyone forgot, for a few moments, that we were all citizens of different countries on Earth,” he wrote in “Two Sides of the Moon.” “That moment really united the human race.”

My latest blog post from the cosy dragon: Interview with Christopher Slayton
An Interview with Christopher Slayton, author of Chaos Company
Everyone has a ‘first novel’, even if many of them are a rough draft relegated to the bottom and back of your desk drawer (or your external harddrive!). Have you been able to reshape yours, or have you abandoned it for good?
I’m glad you asked! I’ve had a rough draft of my first attempt at book writing still saved in my files and I’m currently finishing it in hopes to have it published this fall! I wrote the first few pages back in 2009 while in college but didn’t feel confident to write a full manuscript for it. The story follows a young man who is forced to become a masked vigilante after his brother, a gun-wielding batman-like hero suddenly dies. I think with the complexity I wanted to put into this story was more than I was able to handle then. I believe that after writing Chaos Company I have what it takes to deliver a complex story within my first manuscript.
Some authors are able to pump out a novel a year and still be filled with inspiration. Is this the case for you, or do you like to let an idea percolate for a couple of years in order to get a beautiful novel?
Well, the truth is I know I have a number of stories from start to finish I can’t wait to get to! I even have a dozen of them outlined! I can’t speak for other writers, but inspiration isn’t a problem for me. I try to find it everywhere, from current events and life experience to traveling. The biggest issue for me is time. Until a year ago I didn’t have the time to write, mostly because after working a 40hr/week job, exercising and being social I didn’t have enough to put my ideas down. But now since I work for myself I have the time needed to put my ideas into writing.
I have heard of writers that could only write in one place – then that cafe closed down and they could no longer write! Where do you find yourself writing most often, and on what medium (pen/paper or digital)?
I often write on my laptop either in my bedroom or the living room. That being said I have written in other places such as the common area of my former college, and even at my old job while I was on break. Heck, I’ve even written when I was on vacation in Spain lol. To me there isn’t really a special place for me to write. There is however a mindset I like to put myself in through music in order to write. For example, if I’m writing a lot of dialogue I like to be listening to alternative rock or instrumental music, and when it comes to me writing action scenes I find it easier to do so while listening to hardrock or EDM.
Before going on to hire an editor, most authors use beta-readers. How do you recruit your beta-readers, and choose an editor? Are you lucky enough to have loving family members who can read and comment on your novel?
Unfortunately I can’t trust my family to read for me because most of them see critiquing me as them being rude. When it comes to beta-readers I have only one. Her name is Tessa. She’s been a friend of mine for seven years now and I can trust her to not only tell me exactly how she feels about my work, but also provide ways on how I can improve on a story. I trusted her taste in storytelling and her suggestions when I had her take a look at Chaos Company, and I know I can trust her going forward.
Now when it comes to hiring an editor I am very picky on whom I choose. I got lucky with Chaos Company. Before being let go with publisher Desert Breeze Publishing they had already edited my book for me and had spent over five months and two editors on the project. But now that I am on my own again I’ve learned to ask various questions before hiring an editor, and have them edit a chapter of my work before hiring them. That way I know what I’ll be getting from when they are working on an entire manuscript.
I walk past bookshops and am drawn in by the smell of the books – ebooks simply don’t have the same attraction for me. Does this happen to you, and do you have a favourite bookshop? Or perhaps you are an e-reader fan… where do you source most of your material from?
I am an e-reader. My mom got me a device years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. That being said, I am a sucker for having a physical book in my hand from time to time. I usually get my physical copies from amazon and the same for ebooks.
I used to find myself buying books in only one genre (fantasy) before I started writing this blog. What is your favourite genre, and do you have a favourite author who sticks in your mind from:
1. childhood? – Dr. Suess. His work was and still is a great stepping stone for young readers. I could do without the films made from his work though lol
2. adolescence? – R.L. and the Goosebump books. Especially the choose your own adventure stories. I remember when I choose the wrong page and quickly flipping back to the previous page to try again! I also remember reading the Halo series based on the video game because I wasn’t allowed to play those games as a kid so I thought reading the stories was the next best thing.
3. young adult? – The Alex Rider novels by Anthony Horowitz. That series really got me through high school and inspired me to try my hand at writing, which I would later fall in love with. I read somewhere that Mr. Horowitz wrote a James Bond novel and I can’t wait to get to it!
4. adult? – As a fan of The Walking Dead show and Graphic novels I am currently making my way through the tie-in novels for the comics. The novels are written by series creator Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga who both do an excellent job portraying a dreadful and cruel world in these stories. I’m almost done the second book now and am grateful to have 6 more books in the series to go!
All that being said, I am a sucker for a good action novel. If it has anything to do with spies, bad-ass one man armies, super heroes or epic individuals, I am all over it!
Social media is a big thing, much to my disgust! I never have enough time myself to do what I feel is a good job. How do you manage it?
If I’m being honest I don’t spend too much time on social media. I have a facebook and twitter account so that’s about it. And my facebook is used mostly for personal reasons, which only leaves me with twitter to promote myself and my work. I may put 2hrs towards social media a month because I just don’t have the time for it right now. With my schedule the way it is and how many projects I want to release by next year I have to put social media on the back burner. When it comes to twitter I at times feel like I’m just yelling into a void hoping people catch wind of my words. That is why I tend to stay away until I’m ready to promote more material and announce when I will be making appearances. Hopefully when writing is my official full-time job I’ll be able to be more active with social media. But until then I refuse to be a part of something I believe has gotten out of hand when it comes to making it as an artist. A true artist’s work should be based on their artistic merit and vision and not how many followers they have.
Since you don’t use social media to promote your work, what do you do? What do you do instead?
– I work as a driver for Uber/Lyft and do odd jobs through the website Taskrabbit. Both jobs require me to meet so many new people on a daily basis and to me that’s a potential new reader/fan I can introduce my work to. It may seem like a slow way to draw in a fanbase, but I get to have a one on one conversation with potential readers and fans and I believe that is worth more in the long run. But, with this method only time will tell if it works.
Answering interview questions can often take a long time! Tell me, are you ever tempted to recycle your answers from one to the next?
No. Well, at least not yet lol. When people are kind enough to interview me the least I can do is be as authentic as possible when answering them. Now if someone asks me a question I’ve had before then yes there will be a few points I may repeat from a previous interview. But I do not just copy and paste an answer and I will do my best to never do that in an interview. It’s not fair to the people interviewing, or the people who have read previous interviews I’ve been in.

New Post has been published on https://cloudlight.biz/latest-municipal-broadband-acquisition-comes-from-peak-internet/
Latest Municipal Broadband Acquisition Comes from PEAK Internet
The ultra-modern municipal broadband acquisition entails Oregon-primarily based PEAK Internet, who has received EPUD Internet Services and Eugene Free Net from Emerald People’s Utility District (EPUD), a publicly owned energy corporation serving Lane County, Oregon.
While the PEAK EPUD deal is much less commonplace than a few of the growing wide variety of M&A transactions within the broadband industry, this kind of transaction concerning the acquisition of a publicly-owned broadband network is of growing interest.
In a press launch, EPUD said it had “decided that being an Internet provider company doesn’t fit with our center assignment as a public strength application” and that PEAK Internet could be a higher fit for that role.
PEAK EPUD Deal
Another utility enterprise – Consumers Power – is one among 3 entities that own PEAK Internet. The others are two small impartial telcos, Pioneer Consolidated and Slayton Cooperative Telephone Company. The partners started out PEAK Internet in 1992 and presently provide excessive-pace broadband using the landline and fixed wireless technology. EPUD offers excessive-velocity DSL in some areas.
According to today’s press launch, PEAK and EPUD have had a “near dating” for decades.
Municipally owned broadband networks had been controversial due to the fact that their inception. Typically they come about when neighborhood residents are not able to steer incumbent vendors to deploy or upgrade broadband carrier, but incumbents always put up a fight. And whilst a few municipal broadband initiatives have brought significant financial profits to their communities, some others have failed – a fact which, in aggregate with a guide from the incumbents, has brought on a few states and municipalities to enact anti-municipal community legislation.
Benefits and Drawbacks Associated With Municipal Composting of Green Waste
There are masses of things each in a guide of and against composting inexperienced waste. It is important that you recognize them in advance of taking motion. This record is designed to notify you about some of the vital execs and cons involving composting green waste to lessen the amount of waste sent to landfill and convey a soil improver to be used by gardeners. It can be important to you to apprehend these which will make the first-rate final desire for you.
Advantages: Arguments in the desire of municipal composting of inexperienced waste:
1. We all dislike landfills, in particular, while one is proposed to be evolved anywhere near our homes
if our nearby waste series employer takes our garden waste, and the parks waste to a composting plant rather than taking it to be dumped in a landfill, we are able to want fewer landfills.
2. For a few years in many countries along with the UK, peat with introduced fertilizer produced from fossil fuels has been bought in garden centers as a potting compost and for greens and widespread lawn and flower mattress use. This means that pet must be extracted from historic peat loss which can be becoming rarer as habitats for plenty species no longer located anywhere else. The compost from green waste may be used in place of this peat based totally fabric, which ought to help save the peat bathrooms and the natural world which depend upon them.
Another desirable motive for composting green waste to lessen the quantity of waste despatched to landfill, and convey a soil improver to be used by gardeners is that the compost is also better for our gardens because it releases its nutrients a lot more step by step and over a longer duration than the peat based equivalent. It additionally has very good water retention houses. This presents the greater benefit of decreased water consumption identification wanted for garden watering in the dry climate, that’ll prevent making the error of gardeners ingesting so much water in the summer season that garden hose pipe bans ought to be imposed on the water corporations.
Three. Diverting inexperienced waste far from
Landfills get rid of a closely natural and therefore additionally probably exceedingly polluting constituent of landfills, in an effort to help to make the landfills much less unpleasantly pungent while being stuffed and much less dangerous to the environment after they have been crammed.
Then there may be also the reduction in void extent which is also saved, and that allows you to make bigger the life of existing landfills which would in any other case have taken this cloth. That is honestly very crucial as it would imply that there may be no need for a brand new landfill to be built near you, as well as saving cash needed to be spent from the neighborhood quotes bill for the improvement of a new landfill. Should you take that into mind, then it appears practical to composting green waste to lessen the quantity of waste sent to landfill,
Fixed Wireless Broadband Access
Fixed wireless is a method of transmission of high pace statistics site visitors thru a wi-fi connection between two fixed points. Subscriber carrier consists of a microwave antenna and radio on purchaser’s rooftop for transmitting and receiving RF alerts. The client’s antenna factors to the service provider’s RF transceiver (Access Point) positioned at the radio tower or tall constructing. Fixed wireless reference to a customer has clear Line of Sight (LOS) to the Access Point can attain distance up to 50 miles and information charge up to loads of Mbps.
Fixed Wireless has configurations, point-to-factor (PtP) or point-to-multipoint (PtMP)
PtP networking connects places through the use of two radios and antennas dedicated to best every different. PtMP networking refers to communications between one get right of entry to point and a couple of patron radios. Fixed wireless can use frequency either in licensed band or unlicensed band. Unlicensed band frequencies of 900MHz (902-928), 2.4GHz, five.3GHz, 5.4GHz, five.8GHz, 24GHz, and 60GHz are exempt from FCC licensing requirement. Unlicensed wi-fi structures, despite the fact that quick to installation, do not promise unique use of the band and are susceptible to capacity interference. Licensed microwave wireless structures function within parts of the radio spectrum (VHF, 900MHz, 2GHz, three.65GHz, 4.9GHz, 6GHz, 7GHz, 11GHz, 13GHz, 18GHz, 23GHz, and 80GHz) specifically through the FCC. To perform a licensed microwave constant wi-fi radio machine, one should observe for a license from the FCC. Licensed operators are accredited different use of part of the band over an assigned geographic place.
Fixed Wireless Broadband is designed
To emulate coaxial cable connection and support each TDM and packet visitors together with T1, T3, frame relay, Ethernet, and ATM. High-ability service-grade wi-fi backhaul radio combines TDM with Ethernet to provide clean evolution to superior, packet-based totally radio performance and facilitating fee effective, risk-free migration to IP/Ethernet. Enhanced Fixed Wireless can deliver Internet, Voice and MPLS, all with guaranteed Service Level Agreements.
The benefits of constant wi-fi encompass decrease expenses, extra flexibility, and faster deployment. Reliability is on a par with wireline networks and can be engineered to attain 99.999% availability. Service vendors go to excellent lengths to make certain comfortable facts transmission through using excessive-gain directional antennas tightly focusing the sign and directing it precisely on the purchaser’s CPE. Fixed Wireless Broadband transmits and receives encrypted alerts from precise, authenticated gadgets only. It employs the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), which is the usual followed by means of the U.S. Authorities to protect its data. Hence, constant-wi-fi statistics transmission the use of AES are as at ease as any transmission in the world.
