Rhysand rose an eyebrow at the other male. Well this was an unexpected boon.

"Give Night back to Seraphine and we'll help you."

Alaric gritted his teeth and looked to Alusina who gave a tight nod. Sebastian's assassination attempt (success?) had rocked the wilder realm. But Khaede had refused to act, citing it as not her war to wage.

If Alusina didn't gain control soon he was sure his mother would turn her rage onto Wendlyn.

Khaede sighed and held the crown to Alusina, pride almost shining through her eyes.

"I'm shocked but impressed at your style Alusina. I didn't think you'd do it."

Alusina didn't respond, taking the crown, and cutting her hand to drop over the holy altar between them.

The runes along the chamber flared silver anointing her as the newest Tsarina. Alaric looked to his hands, feeling the marks and power flare on his skin even it was covered with armor.

Alusina looked from the walls to her mother. She raised her chin and gestured to the exit.

"I learned from the best, you will be taken to Day where you will remain."

Ivan escorted her and Solaris out. Alusina stepped toward Alina, gripping her hands speaking to her softly.

It had been 15 years since Burton has died and Grimselda had abandoned her boys in Khaede's court. Alaric was proud to see how Ivan had blossomed in that time. He was a good match for Alina.

Nesta stared down at the valley in numb shock, Doranelle was up in flames. The rivers that were fed from mountain snow steamed and boiled. The people's screams had stopped, Urstin dragged her from the edge.

Her people were being slaugthered, she had never cared for Natalia or her myriad of children. But this?

This was why her mother had been trying to avoid.

Seraphine looked from the window to Rhysand, she was young for the position she held as High Lady. Rhysand gripped her shoulders, forcing her to stop pacing.

No one would have guessed Sebastian and Natalia were capable of such things. But had Alaric and Alusina had known what they'd planned?

Had they demanded Khaede step down to force the Daglan to stay in line?

He pressed a kiss to Seraphine's forehead.

"It'll be fine love. Morrigan will take care of them."

Seraphine sighed and leaned into his touch. She had trained for this position, she was a force to be reckoned with.

Night was loyal to her and had always stood with her.

Giving Night to Alusina and Alaric as a mating gift had never set well with her people.

But they had it now and her people had gone out of their way to make her feel welcome.

Still, Doranelle falling and being their problem wasn't on his list of wants. Keir and Seraphine's father Nox were brothers, which made it on Seraphine what to do about Nesta and her sisters.

He supposed they could have gone to Mab. But even he knew Mab was estranged from Mora and Maeve.

Seraphine had agreed to take the girls in, she had been optimistic about it too.

Seraphine frowned, twisting her hands in his shirt.

"What if they play politics Rhysand? That's exhausting, I don't want to be wearing masks in my own home."

He frowned, cupping her face.

"Then you don't, you don't need to be around them. They are Morrigan's problem, they'll stay in the House of Wind and be dealt with there. They are our guests but not our responsibility do you understand?"

Seraphine bit her lip and pulled away to walk to the window.

"I just want them to see I am good. Theia nearly destoryed this realm 300 years ago. I am not my grandmother, I am not mother who needs constant care or spirals into despair."

She rolled her shoulders back, her blue eyes flashing.

"I will not let anyone make me feel inferior in my own home. I know the rumors of those girls, they are spoiled and her whatever they want. They are Morrigan's responsibility but I will set the standard."

Rhysand stepped back to her, holding her chin to kiss hard.

"You amaze me Seraphine. Have I told you that today?"

She smiled, the soft smile she only ever showed him. Her eyes twinkling.

"You've told me you thought me a goddess this morning but not I amaze you. You're growing lax my dear."

He grinned, sliding curtains closed, pressing her back against the window. His lips slid down her neck.

"I didn't get to worship you either yet darling. Let me make it make up to you."

Remus stood at the steps below Seraphine and Rhysand, she speaking with Morrigan softly.

He looked to his brother who shrugged at him.

He couldn't even fault Rhysand's joy, he wished his brother all the best. He didn't know why he had to be here to receive the females. He had work to be doing, and watching Rhysand simply stare at Seraphine as if she had hung the stars and moon was giving him a headache.

Fates, he hoped he never looked like that.

Seraphine perked looking to the carriage that wound up the drive to them.

"They're here."

A male stepped out, Urstin. He helped his sisters out one by one. He looked exhausted, but they all looked fine.

Remus wondered if they had cried yet about their parents.

When his mother had been dying he had cried. It was only months after she had recovered that he'd even broken down.

Seraphine stepped down the steps toward them.

"Welcome to Night."

Nesta looked to her sisters, sharing a look that reminded them they could not show weakness here. No one deserved to know their pain, or how they yerned for what they had lost. It had taken the ride there for her to help Elain compose herself, who had not wanted to come and wanted to be anywhere else.

Then there was Feyre, who honestly had become so rebellious in the recent weeks. Talking back, not dressing as she should. If only she could keep them under control, she knew Urstin had enough on his plate, so she knew it had to be her responsiblity.

She turned and looked towards the female who approached, she stood tall with her chin held high before she curtsied - Elain following suit.

"Thank you for the kind welcome, I am Nesta. These are my siblings: Urstin," she interacted to her brother. "Elain and Feyre."

Elain smiled when she was introduced and bowed her head slightly.

Feyre on the other hand stood tall, looking over all those who were gathered. She looked as if she was trying to sus out who to trust, who to watch.

Also, since I think you mentioned at one point that Morowa started as an entirely original creation, what was the process like creating her from scratch? Has her design changed at all as your ideas of her character (presumably) shifted over the years? Sorry if this is all a little cumbersome, but I find your art really fascinating and it has, in the past, encouraged me to look a little closer at my own original art/characters, even purely written ones. Thank you!

Her design has absolutely changed over the years and that is because Morowa is the eldest of all of my OCs. I’ve placed Morowa’s meta-history under a read-more (apologies in advance to mobile readers!) because as the eldest of my OCs, there’s a lot of process involved. I’ve gone into detail, which is a reminder that you should watch what you wish for.

Starting From Scratch

When I was a teenager, I had a story I was writing called Ordog’s Stone. The story is about a woman and her manticore companion who find a dead man on a beach. As prophecy foretold, that night the dead man came back to life and begged the woman to help him end his curse of immortality.

When I first created her for this story, Morowa started out as Morrigan and she was a white woman because the story as I then envisioned it was this pan-Celtic mythic tale. That went out the window when I became interested in Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton, One Thousand and One Nights, and British Orientalism. Morrigan became a black woman, my story became more global, and the type of story I was telling changed from this pan-Celtic pseudo-myth to high fantasy.

Although there were many positive things that came out of writing and drawing and thinking about Ordog’s Stone (creating a diverse set of characters, cultivating an interest in cultures beyond my own, and seeking out black and brown voices to tell black and brown tales), I put down the story in 2012 because, rather predictably, my interest in British Orientalism meant that I had borrowed many of it’s faults, including its reductionism through mystification and exotification. There was a lot that I had to educate myself about (like colourism, the cultural consequences of British Orientalism, and the intersection of sexism and racism when it came to the depiction of WOC) and more to unlearn. I should be explicit that this aspect of my “process” with Morowa’s character is ongoing.

Importing to Elder Scrolls & Dragon Age

Morrigan was reborn as Morowa in 2012. I decided against plucking a Redguard name out of TES canon because it didn’t feel right (e.g., going from Morrigan to, say, Katie didn’t carry the kind of forward momentum I wanted). So I chose a people I was interested in (Akan), whose stories I had heard growing up, and I took a word (or what I understood to be an unconventional Akan name) that would quietly remind me of the character’s roots: Morowa and Morrigan are both names that refer to queens.

Morowa in her original story that I had crafted as a teenager was adventurous, fearless, and energetic (downright plucky). When I played through Oblivion and Skyrim with her, her identity as a Redguard built onto her character: she became more warlike, stalwart, and proud. As a result, I shaved her head–my experiences playing rugby learned me that even if there were rules like ‘don’t pull on another player’s hair, you absolute tits’, my ponytail was not necessarily safe–and added war paint because it had the word ‘war’ in it (shot in the dark, my imagination!).

I didn’t hit a “groove” with Morowa until I played through Inquisition with her as my Inquisitor. The Western (film) vibes I got from the game influenced the aesthetic direction I took with her character. The situation the Inquisitor finds themselves in added more anger to her character and reduced (but did not eliminate) some of the impishness that her original character had. So the Morowa you see today is a composite of her original character, TES character, and DA character.

The Pirate and The Viking

I dont know of I ever posted their designs before, because if I hadn't then well, here they are in their new glory! I tried to be somewhat more accurate with the history but I failed, but atleast they look good, so there's that.

I will write some stuff with them in the future but I have to rewatch all three movies for that first to be accurate movie wise. Or else shit just wont make sense

So the pirate is call Morrigan Burton and she is a captain of a ship called the sweet revenge.

And next to her we have a viking called Eve Sofia Danman, she was ruthless in her time and walking away from a fight with just a couple of bruises was a blessing.

They're both exhibits in the national museum of history, Morrigan is a wax Figurine and Eve is a miniature.
