so my highly unscientific vibe check (in amongst these asks) of the B&W gym leaders wasn’t the wild stab in the dark I assumed it was; excepting the disservice I did to Brycen and Burgh. Here’s a quick remedy to that plus some asks below:

@geeneelee​ The ones with food names are triplets! And I think you’ve vibe checked most of them correctly more or less? There are a few misses, like the ice guy is kind of depressed and Burgh is a kind, flamboyant artist type. Not a smart ass, more a “fabulous darling yes more paint!!” kind of guy and I’m fond of him. Marlon had the distinction of being a jumbo who is my enemy. Also, Clay has nothing to do with them.

@penguinkiwi​ For the gym leaders adding onto what Geeneelee said; Brycen’s actually a pretty quiet dude in person though he is an actor so it would mostly depend on when the twins interacted with him ( on set vs off set ). As stated, Clay’s got nothing to do with the railway system, he’s actually a miner but theres probably common interest in tunnels and ground types (ie: Excadrill).

I honestly don’t know why the idea of the food boys being related didn’t occur to me - they’ve deffo got echoes of the eevee brothers from back in the day, just not as antagonistic.  Brycen’s super dynamic posing and sprites totally threw me; (plus that pic of him with the beartic honestly just made me laugh) The idea that he goes all in with his acting but is actually quite retiring in person is adorable.

Clay was definitely the owner of something; that cowboy hat is too conspicuous otherwise, but it was a swing and a miss on my part.

@quietlywatchingwritingreading​ asked: your takes: Burrggh: he's the bug trainer guy, and emmet and ingo both actually raise a lot of bugs. (emmet often gets tied with Joltik). he's also the painter, so yeah there could be some smugness. (His first gym was 'What if it was a beehive honeycomb filled with clowns'. So you're not wrong but there's probably potential for Weird Bug Friend-rivals.

Clay has no ownership of the railroad but he is a gym leader so he might be in charge of public transit or some degree. (he's a fairly 'reasonable bootstraps leader' type character, and has a excadrill as his star. so he and ingo probably discuss their moles)

I think it goes hand in hand with the Satoshi Tajiri’s own passion for collecting bugs that so many of the bug type trainers are so enthusiastic about their bug friends. (looking at all those Bug catchers tryna check me with a caterpie) 

Like with Brycen, I think Burgh’s screenshots didn’t do him any justice - after all there’s a fine line between being serving theatrical and smug. But I should’ve known better; those trousers do scream flamboyant art teacher.

I’m pretty blown away that it wasn’t just a complete whiff, especially Skyla - I was almost joking about the planes, but the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea of train/plane spotter solidarity.

I’ve pretty much got the image that the Submas bros just sort of sweep in and project their enthusiasms until they’ve collected a little band of equally passionate people who can meet their energy halfway regardless of the topics.

It’s a pretty interesting idea to think that the twins could probably easily be gym leaders in their own right; but rather they’ve waived that in order to follow their true passion of the Battle subway. Makes sense then that they might have had a hand in raising some of the current leaders given how stringent their challenge is.

If you were given the chance, how might you reintroduce Heavy and Bomb in the Sonic games or comics?

hmm. by memory, their general deal was nonexistent in the original JP manual, right, they're just not mentioned, so you're left to assume they're mass-produced "hazards" Eggman put in the Combi Catcher to your detriment; and in the US manual, it's said they're two robot mechanics for Robotnik, who rebelled and joined the Chaotix, but with an implication that they might just be secret moles from Robotnik to hinder the heroes.

That's the gist of it, right?

I guess the best way to use them would then be in Classic Sonic stories as kind of antagonists to the Chaotix, but maybe very inneffective and friendly ones? Like, the heroes don't see them as a threat, just annoyances at most, let them hang around? Either that or just have fun with them being mass produced, maybe treat them a bit like classic-style Omochao. Dunno, but it is something I've pondered on, just since they've such fun designs.

i made this gig poster for fun in the weeks leading up to the show on september 23, 2022 and i finished it literally hours before doors on the night of the show. in my rush to finish it i didn’t realize the “r” in “23rd” was backwards but i think it gives it a certain rushed diy charm, or something like that. i printed these on mulberry paper and tore it to size instead of cutting it to show off the soft, thin texture of the paper

Underground Railroad: a gay slave rides a real railroad in the surrealist South

The Underground Railroad was a network of safe houses and allies that helped enslaved African-Americans escape to the North, or after the Fugitive Slave Act, to Canada.  

The 2023 tv miniseries suggests that it was a real railroad, a series of trains and tunnels run by an intricate bureaucracy. As Cora and her friends and love interests head north, pursued by slave-catcher Arnold Ridgeway, they encounter bizarre communities and have adventures that comment on the racism in the pre-Civil War South and the contemporary U.S. I reviewed Chapter 1, "Georgia."

Scene 1: Surreal montage of people running backwards, falling into a chasm, being all bloody, and finally Cora telling us: "The first and last thing my mama gave me was apologies."  Cut to Caesar (Aaron Pierre, left) asking Cora to head north with him, for "good luck."  She refuses.  The way they keep pushing their heads at each other, they appear to be a romantic couple. 

Scene 2: Whooping and dancing in the slave compound.  Cora brings the older Jockey some food.  Their owners appear: Terrence (Benjamin Walker, left), who runs the other half of the plantation, disapproves of the "lenient" way that James treats his slaves. So they ask a kid to recite the Declaration of Independence.   They mean the Declaration of Secession, so the Civil War is on.  How is anyone heading North?   He can't do it right, and he accidentally touches them, so Terrence has him beaten to death. And Cora, for intervening. They are left chained to the whipping post all night.

Scene 3: In the morning, the ladies tend to Cora's wounds, and Caesar takes her home. Later, his wife Frances says "I know about men like you. You sneak off in the night and roll around in the swamp with other mens on your back."  Ok, so Caesar is gay.  She's fine with it, but master brought them together to reproduce, and if they don't, Master Randall will cut off his dick, so get with your husbandly duties!  

Scene 4: Prideful (Lucius Baston), the black overseer, tells Cora that she's being moved.  She resists (I can't imagine why -- her new owner can't be much worse). 

Cut to James walking through the woods.  He's nice to a little boy named Hezekiah  then coughs and collapses. 

Cut to Terrence in the fields, telling the slaves that his brother James has died, so now he owns the whole plantation, and will stop being "lenient": no more parties, no more outside work, and he'll be overseeing the "breeding,"  Perv just wants to watch couples doing it.  He also wants to have sex with Cora.

Scene 5: Slave catcher Ridgeway (Joel Edgerton, left and below and his assistant, a young black kid named Homer (Chase W. Dillon), have a very muscular escaped slave, Big Anthony (Elijah Everett), in a cage. They return him to Terrence's plantation. 

Ridgeway advises Terrence to place some moles in the fields to rat out talk of escape.  An underground railroad has appeared to abet runaways. Terrence doesn't believe it, but Ridgeway asks him why some escaped slaves disappear forever, as if they've gone to a new world. An alternative reality with no slave trade?

The Seashore Sectors Roles

All sectors have base roles with more added to best fit their environment. Will most likely update so keep that in mind.

Stellar

The stellar is the leader of the sector and one who controls the sectors ideals. Often sways with the stellar themselves views. A stellar must be appointed by the grown cats of the sector though most take up the role after guidance from the previous stellar.

Depending on the sector the new stellar will gain their title, used as a formal acknowledgement by other sectors to show the cats position. Stellar Lunar, or Stellar Solar.

Example: Stellar Lunar Azure

Lieutenants and Heads

The lieutenants and heads are the main cat of their select job. Depending on the cats position or wants they may choose lieutenant or head but both are the same title.

They have the most voice on big decisions. Acting as the voice for the cats under them. Always are the most skilled at their job, usually with the most experience and focus on their job.

While they don’t have a universal title some may take up a descriptor in front of their name to show what job they are the head of.

Examples: Lieutenant Protector Clawd, Hen Head Sunshine, Great Hunter Hickory

Seers

Specific title for a magic in tune cat able to either use or interpret the mystical parts of their world. Not seen often and a very honorable role for a cat. If a cat starts showing signs of being a seer they are placed under supervision. If they are in fact magic they take up the mantle of a seer no matter their age.

The most famous seer of the sectors is Wisteria, the cat able to connect directly with their great guardians of the past. Depending on a cats abilities and how the current sector views them this title may be a place of pride or shame.

All known seers get the title of Seer and HAS to be used by all cats in a public setting. While a seer may not love this it is tradition and seen as a direct disrespect of their guardians to call a seer by their first name in public. In private it is fine especially by a cats family but only if the seer themselves have stated they’d like to be called by just their first name.

Medics

The trained healers of their sector. Incredibly important as they are the forefront to discovering new cures, heal wounds, and save lives. To be a medic is to take on the whole sector as their family and make sure they don’t perish.

A cat at any point can start training to be a medic though most take this path in their youth to have the most experience possible. It is a very stressful role to many, heavily criticized and blamed when a cat cannot he saved. Medics range widely on who they are, what they focus on, and what their ideals are.

All fully fledged medics have the title of Savior before their name. This is used to show respect to their role most often at festivals or events by other sector cats.

Examples: Sentinel Zephyr

Protectors

Guards of the sector. While they rely on being peaceful in the new order they also need protections from other threats. These cats know how to best deal with the varying threats that attack them. While many first go into it thinking it’s just to fight but learn soon it’s all about techniques and how to best deal with an enemy.

The lieutenant/head of the protectors is most involved in new protectors training and makes sure the new protectors learn how to be a proper protector.

Hunters

Basic role. All cats start as hunters and most often start training again after getting there. Usually the dual class. The head/lieutenant of the hunters though specifically specializes in being the best hunter possible. Learning the best way to hunt, track, and take down any prey.

Usually have sections based on a cats best hunting type, with the top hunters skilled in each class. The classes are Swimming Snatchers, Trodding Trappers, and Climbing Catchers. Snatchers specialize in water based prey like fish or aquatic life. Trappers in ground prey like deers, hares, mice, moles. And Catchers in higher up prey like birds and squirrels.

Crafters

A simple role taken up by creative cats. Crafters weave dens, nests, accessories, armor. They can be skilled in one particular area and range widely on their favored crafts. The main crafts include: den menders, armor makers, jewelry weavers.

A dual job in most cases. While a cat may focus more towards their crafts they also often specialize in hunting, protecting, or being a hen. Usually a crafter will help out other fields like hunters by making traps, protectors by making weapons or armor, or hens by making toys for little kittens to play with.

Hens

The caretakers of the kittens and their first teachers. A highly prized role that is quite respected. The young are important after all. Most Hens are also part time hunters or specialize in another field though any new litters are their main focus.

Every Hen takes up the role after they are officially grown and are trained mostly by other Hens across sectors. While they aren’t essential for a sector to thrive it is common for there to be at least one hen.

Younglings

The young cats of the sector. Ranging from kittens to young juveniles. Depending on their development they will get a teacher to help train them and help guide them down a path that best fits them.

Young kits are most often raised by their parent/s with help from any hens. Between 1-3 months of age they are confide to camp but while here they learn from the figures in their life important lessons.

Once deemed able to leave camp they learn more survival based skills from their caretakers and main teachers of the sector. Eventually they are made into full sector cats and given a ceremony to mark their success.

*There are no mentors in the Seashore sector as they both value tight family units and caring for one another. Young cats when deemed able to leave camp have to be accompanied by either their parent/s, a respected head, or a few grown cats. They are taught by each roles head or best teacher so they can find what path they may want to walk down

Travelers

Cats who come in and out of the sector. Most often merchants who come to bring new exotic things for the sector or cats from other sectors coming to trade their resources with the other groups.

Other times it’s some who just stay to recover, a haven until things are better, or to see if they want to be a part of the sector. They sire new litters, bring new ideas or techniques, and help to remind the sectors that peace is truly the best way. While it isn’t the same in every sector the Seashore Sector most values their outsiders.

Since I'm half anodite, I could use magic, and Gwen has tried to teach me a few spells because she knows I'm in mortal danger every other day. But it just doesn't feel like it's worth the effort when I already have the Omnitrix. Besides, magic is her thing, I don't wanna steal her thing.

Kai started wielding the Excalibur in her teens, rather than adulthood

I'm a high school drop-out. In the show they come up with all kinds of excuses, like how that Ben got special permission to hand in assignments late. But no, I straight up just quit after my identity became public knowledge. I couldn't keep up. It was more important for me to keep Earth safe than to analyze Catcher in the Rye and learn quadratic equations.

My relationship with Rook has overall been good, but not without a bunch of hiccups. He started out as a fanboy, then he got to know me and found me annoying as hell, then we got to know each other better and became good friends, then we got to know each other a bit too well and found out we have really incompatible political views. Where will we go from here? No idea, that's just what parallel lives are like, but I feel like we'll find some way to make it work.
