it's...missing smackjeeves hours..

telling myself if no one makes a good alternative for smackjeeves in the next like five years, im gonna start making one myself (only 10% serious)

i just miss like that atmosphere of 100% unmarketable, just comic sharing/making space.

where we all knew that 99% of the time the comics we see will never get finished bc ppl get busy, kids grow up and change interests ,etc. (i mention kids bc most of my memories of smackjeeves was when i was a teen, so it was a significant like developmental years as an artist kind experience for me)

like i remember most of the comics were like

barely legible sketch pages with like text written in mspaint.

there was absolutely no quality standard. and that's why it was so good

it made me as a kid feel like oh i can do comics! cause it can be WHATEVER YOU WANTED IT TO BE AND LOOK HOWEVER WAY.

and the collaborative ones on smackjeeves were so fun to look at

just overall.

having that. rough, crude, unmarketable space for art/comics was significant.

#hating the current comic spaces #the owner of smackjeeves had to sell smackjeeves to a korean mobile company that also owned a webcomic site cause the owner had health #issues and also struggled with funding the site costs #and he hoped that by being owned by a bigger company it would be taken care of better but it just eventually completely shut down #i dont have any hard feelings towards the creator ofc there's only so much an independent owner of a big site could do #so as much as i joke about i'll make it myself i do feel like it's unapproachable bc i feel like i'd run into the same issues with #not having the funds to run a site #but i am also very gungho and would be willing to just try it just for the sake of wanting bad comics to come back #please truly that was the most inspiring days for comic creating #i think beginner art and unmarketable art is like the backbone of art community imo #edit meant to write mobile GAME company not a phone comapny

This is an “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing” fic. I’m not the best writer so bear with me. The thing with this fic is that it’s apart of the Good Hunter/Wolf/Pinocchio series I’ve got going. This has spoilers for one of the endings of Lies of P so warning to that. Edit: I forgot to mention that the good hunter took the childhood beginnings ending and is a god/great one in this.

It had been three months since everyone left Krat. Hunter had been rather insistent on leaving with the survivors in the hotel. Later on they had explained what happened and why the boy they were so close with was nothing more than a lifeless body. The city Hunter brought everyone to was Yharnam and thankfully, the Krat survivors had blended in rather seamlessly into the Yharnam population.

Hunter had gone off to the Lumenwood garden in the upper area of cathedral ward. The new members of the church watched again as the being stood in the flowers. Some whispered about the many times they visited. A person sat on a chair in the middle of the garden. Hunter sat in front of the boy. Hunter stared, watching, hoping, to see any sign of movement.

“Hey, buddy, it’s been a while. I know I should’ve come sooner, but this past week has been busy,” Hunter said. They frowned, not really caring when tears started falling. “I’m sorry. I know I keep saying it, but I mean it,” they said, “I should’ve pulled you away. I shouldn’t have let that old bastard take your heart. I wish I was there for you.” Hunter placed a hand on the boys arm. “I hope one day, you can forgive me, my child,” they said. Hunter began whistling. It was a whistle they and the boy came up with for when they went out and fought together. It was so they could find each other easier.

After some time, a man came and waited behind the hunter. “Wolf,” they said. “It’s time to go. The others are waiting for us,” he said. Hunter looked at him, back at the boy and then back to him. With a quick nod, they got up and started walking. Wolf led them away from the boy. Both began whistling as they walked.

ibispaintx is my favorite mobile art app as someone whos been using it for like. three? four? years now.

the majority of its features are free. if you watch a short ad you unlock all the brushes for 18 hours, and while the ads are annoying and the fact that there are some features that are locked for premium users sucks, i still think it's worth it. (the most notable locked premium feature for me would be the lack of the gradient adjustment layer

stabilization. LIFE CHANGER TO ME <- guy w shaky hands and wasn't used to drawing w their finger. this + forced fade could be helpful to anyone having trouble with lineart esp bc we don't really have enough room to work from our shoulders nkjbhgvfc. it's honestly my favorite part about ibis. it's not super adjustable unfortunately but i really like it.

reference window. this ones a rather new feature but it can help a lot w proportions and ofc regular references :) you can add multiple pictures and resize both the picture and the window as you please AND you can color pick from it. the pictures will stay the same from canvas to canvas though but i just use that as an opportunity to have an image of batman looking silly on every drawing i do on ibis.

fonts. sooo many fonts and! you can download fonts into ibis too!

brushes!! you can customize them (its not the best but like. it works) and download them :) there's a color mixing mode that makes it really easy to blend colors and its super fun to play w that if you're not very good at colors yet. theres also fun textures. i think their pencil textures are the best pencil textures ive seen in an art program.

THE UI! ALSO ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ABT IBIS EVER. the ui is super beginner friendly imo and it's not as cluttered as other programs (which is sm i personally like bc i find it hard to focus if the small screen im using is also cluttered. i struggle w the reference window sometimes

automatic timelapse + drawing time :)) good for keeping track of time and progress! it's vv rewarding to see the difference of a piece that took me 3 hours a year ago vs a piece that took me 30 minutes today.

clipping masks and alpha lock. I MISS THEM SO MUCH I WISH KRITA HAD THEM THE SAME WAY IBIS HAD THEM

SO MANY ADJUSTMENT LAYER OPTIONS. these were sooo fun when i had a vaguer understanding of color

It really helped to keep a long Excel guide of every monster’s attack (since level 9 hides the first round of monster cards and getting hit with a Stun or Purification on the first turn SUUUCKS) and that’s every achievement done now. Very excited for the second game, and I’ll be buying it on Steam as soon as it comes out.
