My English literature class in school focused on frankenstein for one of our books. We finished exams almost a month ago and yet I'm shocked that apparently my friends from class didn't know what I considered to be one of the most integral pieces of information from the novel (or at least the scene wherein the monster is brought to life) which is that:
Frankenstein loved his creation until he looked at it's eyes
This is fascinating to me from an analysis standpoint and I ended up writing a short essay of sorts to them in an attempt to explain why I deem this so important. And tumblr looks old media so here, have a treat.
As the creature comes to life Victor is marvelling at the creatures beauty "limbs in proportion", "features as beautiful", "hair of a lustrous black", "teeth of a pearly whiteness", it's only when the creature firsts opens its eyes that Victor is then filled with disgust. He describes the beauty of the body as a "horrid contrast" to the eyes, and there is likely a multitude of reasons as to why this may be.
One being that a person's eyes are something that shows their humanity, you can read emotions through people's eyes and they act as one of the most expressive parts of the human body, the "watery eyes" of the creature do not do this, likely coming off as emotionless and unnatural on the creature. This may also link with the fact that eyes are considered the windows to the soul, and in looking at the creatures eyes he is aware of the lack of humanity in the creature.
Looking the creature in the eyes may have been what Victor needed to finally become aware of the egregious actions he committed in creating the creature. From originally admiring his creation objectively in its beauty, to looking it in the eyes and suddenly being filled with disgust shows a realisation that his actions were wrong, both legally and religiously (as religion plays a major role in the novel's contest and story).
This second point is also somewhat stated to be the reason why Victor falls ill when he returns to his room as both his physical and mental health catch up with him from overworking and the moral ambiguity of his actions.

Another desperate strike at the art block and a tribute of sorts: super rusty linocut to reinitiate me into the world of printmaking. It’s not as attuned to my working style as intaglio was, but this is fun, tactile, and enough of a departure from my way of thinking that is super welcome.
It’s nothing special and definitely technically lacking (over-inked block and such) but it’s something, which is a big deal lately. Also it’s my favorite species of fish and we all know Kuhli loaches deserve all the tributes we can give.

cw: Bakugou dies but comes back to life, “comes back wrong” trope, implied fighting, angst
When Bakugou died, you’re not sure how you went on living. Grief had taken over your life, sat you in the passenger side while it cruised off the highway into icy waters. And even then, you couldn’t find the energy to drown.
It’s why there’s a sudden uptick of energy when you’re promised to have him back. Some top scientists contact you months after his death, tell you to hurry down to the headquarters labs, come and rejoice for what you’re about to witness. And you’re horrified, to say the least.
“This isn’t my husband.” Are your first words when you walk in, watch the figure on the other side of the glass examine its own hands. It looks like your husband but—but his hair isn’t the right shade of blond all over. His nose bridge had a slight bump after a scuffle with a villain. He had a scar on his hand but—but it never looked like it was to sew a pinky beside the other fingers.
“Is that really my husband?” You ask next in disbelief, slowly entering the room. Bakugou’s head snaps up, his eyes a little brighter than you remember but—they hold so much emotion. So much memory, so much panic, so much guilt.
“I left you.” He mutters, his voice raspy and ragged, and you wonder if it’ll always be like this now. It makes you cry a little harder than it should, but you only embrace each other. He’s cold and his shoulders don’t hold the same mass and his back doesn’t carry the same scars. There’s one, jagged and rough, running down his back, and you think, you think that’s where they slipped a new spine in.
“Welcome back home.” You tell him, weeks after meeting him again, new and not totally—Katsuki. He’s stiff and he doesn’t immediately take off his boots when he enters, and it worries you. Makes you think if you’ve just let a stranger into your home, one that has stolen your dead husbands face. Makes you wonder if he’ll be as loving as Katsuki once was, or if he’ll become your monster looming over you with the guilt of not being able to rest anymore.
“I’ve missed you so much.” You whisper against his mouth one night, a little while after he’s moved back. You don’t know why you lay under him, why you let him nestle himself inside of you, why you let him hold you against his chest. Katsuki always ran his hands over your cheeks and neck whenever he held you like this, but this…man, only holds himself up with his hands resting beside your head. It’s alien, how he looks at you, how his hips are methodically measured with every thrust, how he kisses you every 8 seconds. You wonder if he’s more robot than Frankenstein monster.
“Why did you come back to me like this?” You ask him one night, barricaded in the bathroom away from him. You can hear his sobs on the other side, his pleading to be let in. He tells you he never wanted to come back if he had to be like this, that he’s sorry, please let him in, he misses the warmth of your skin, he’s never been so cold before, he’s never liked the cold.
“Is this considered cheating?” You ask yourself aloud one night, when Bakugou is forced back to the lab when he becomes too…un-Bakugou. To sleep with a man that is your husband in every way but? Your husband has been dead for a year now, and yet you stroke the chin of the man that tries so hard to be him everyday, but fails so miserably at it every time.
“I’ll come back to you right this time.” Bakugou promises to you when he’s strapped down to leave for the lab and before he’s sedated. But you don’t believe him—you never did. Your husband is dead, and this animated corpse has been nothing but a cheap mockery of everything you’ve lost and something you will never truly get back.

the gorgug-porter conversation is interesting to me because like. yea for the overwhelming majority of the conversation porter’s being shitty & trying to fit gorgug into a box that gorgug just does not fit into by trying to make gorgug’s relationship with his rage more focused on the aggression aspect of it. but then there’s also this specific thing that brennan brought up again in the ap, which is that gorgug’s relationship with his rage is wholly “this is a tool i use to protect my friends.” which isn’t a bad thing! but that’s his Whole relationship with it, & gorgug seems to place next to no value on his rage in relationship to himself. which is problematic, because it’s first & foremost his rage.
being raised in a household with a sort of toxic positivity largely meant that, whether or not it was his parents’ intention, gorgug internalized the message that more traditionally “negative” emotions such as anger are the wrong response to something. part of the reason he prioritizes his artificing is probably because it’s “fixing” things. in comparison to being a barbarian, which gorgug associates with “breaking” things. good vs. bad behavior, in his eyes.
it’s a totally unacceptable bar to measure a 16 y/o by, but i do think part of porter’s reasoning for not letting gorgug multiclass is him recognizing that gorgug generally does not value anger as a valid emotional response to something, at the very least for himself. & that directly conflicts with what being a barbarian is, because whether you like it or not, that rage is what fuels you. but again, barring a kid from pursuing something they deeply care about in part (not entirely, porter has a lot of more bullshit reasons) because of their fundamental values & world outlook is crazy.
so yes, 98% of porter’s reasoning is pretty shitty, immature, rife with a toxic view that there’s only one proper way to access rage, & generally not a good thing to do as a teacher, but also within that reasoning is the 2% of ‘there is a fundamental part of yourself that you only value if you can use it to take care of other people & you need to accept that as something that can take care of you, too.’ but that’s something to discuss with a therapist or a guidance counselor, not something that should hugely impact gorgug’s academic future.

Don't think I've seen this question make the rounds before, so:
Do any of your OCs hunt/fish/trap? Who taught them, and why do they do it? Do they have preferred gear or quarry?

btw young royals' central thesis for wille is still "the problem isn't that he likes a boy, the problem is that he's a prince" and people need to remember that
also I was going to put the rest in the tags but yknow what
yes I KNOW he can't realistically abdicate YET, but I'm saying it's the best resolution for him and not just because it would give him and simon an easier time!! if the fandom weren't so caught up in yelling about how the only happy or good ending is wilmon endgame (seperate rant that I texted avie yesterday but not the point of this post) maybe we could have a discussion about wille abdicating would be more for himself than any relationship he may or may not be in.
even if he and simon broke up the source of his problems would still lie PRIMARILY with the monarchy, and removing himself from that would be the first step to HIM recovering and healing and growing, not his relationship w simon. that's a seperate matter and seperate problem that can only be properly addressed after abdication because while he is a prince and part of a corrupted and vicious system, he cannot be a good person to himself, simon, or any of his friends and family.

Please please please post your Jeff Winger analysis that you wrote for your college class
fine. here it is.
for those of you that don't know, this my final paper for my abnormal psychology class I took last spring (at a community college lmao, I have since graduated and am now in university studying something completely different.) the instructions were to play therapist and write a case study on one of your hypothetical clients. we were supposed to make up a person and diagnose them with something. naturally, instead of making someone up, I chose a sitcom character to dive into. I somehow got 100%. read if you so desire, it's about 1600 words.
A COUPLE (sad) QUICK (christmas) DISCLAIMERS
I wrote this in literally an hour! it's Very Rough! that's not me being humble! that is an objective fact! please just accept right now that the grammar and syntax are sloppy as hell that's just How It Is
I changed Jeff's name to something stupid, I don’t even know what it was, just so I’d have less chance of being caught lmao
I stretched some canonical truths and made some shit up that doesn't necessarily apply to Jeff. I did this because the paper was due at 11:59 and I needed to make a compelling argument quickly. so I somewhat warped Jeff to be what I needed for the paper. it's still mostly canon compliant but just beware and don't come after me for any inaccuracies okay I did it on purpose

Okay so update! My family and I are all okay, the only real injury is my siblings ankle got twisted or something while we where getting out and it's swollen to heck but aside from that we all got out pretty okay.
We've got semi-stable living conditions atm, can't really go into detail there but we're okay for right now and the community where we live has been amazing and giving us a lot of support. Thank you to everyone who left kind messages on the last post, I really appreciated it and it meant a lot to me.
I don't have the brain power for dm's at the moment but I'm sending hugs to y'all <3

Unicorn Overlord class tier list I put together after my first run. Counts the class line as a whole over the course of the game, including availability, though because you do promote fairly early into the game, the unpromoted versions didn't factor in as much.
Tiers aren't ordered except by jointime
My second run with only generic units (and on True Zenoiran) is making me come around on the Gladiator/Cleric combo. A little bit.
also if anyone broke Featherswords please tell me. they seem like a lot of setup for just single-target damage when that amount of setup could also blow up the entire party with a Trinity Rain turbo build.

I heard that tech + engineering is a really good field to get into!!! If yr lookin to go back to college…. But I hope you find success nonetheless…. I can picture you as a sleepy art teacher at a college he he
Yaaa ive heard things ab tech for sure...i wish there were more careers for pea brained ppl...
in another universe i would be a printmaking professor because nothing was more fulfilling than 1. The printmaking itself 2. the community of being in a printmaking class
