*** just as a sidenote, because i like too much music, i'm doing albums i like as cohesive units. albums that hold together and tell a story. albums that i listen to from start to finish because the songs go together in a particular order in my mind, for whatever reason.

strange trails by lord huron. world's most perfect story album. need i even elaborate. maybe my favorite album of all time. the musical & lyrical motifs that carry through the whole thing, the examination of romance and death and the way they intertwine, the whole convoluted multi-character storyline that underlies it. if you like folk music and undeath and evil women, please for the love of god listen to this album.

we were dead before the ship even sank by modest mouse. world's second most perfect story album. now, if you were to ask me, hey, what IS the story this album is trying to tell? i couldn't begin to answer. but this album is just. omg. the tone is so cohesive throughout while still allowing for changes in register, concept, and overall sound. also has the best opening line to an album in the history of albums.

so much for stardust by fall out boy. okay this one's a gimme but come on. pop-punk retrospective on the state of the world since 2016? with lyricism that makes me weep? came out just weeks after i the birthday where i realized that i wanted to be alive for the first time in like three years? it's not even close.

jenny from thebes by the mountain goats. NOW LISTEN. i knowww it's just the most recent mountain goats album. why, you might be asking, did i not go for beat the champ instead? and the answer is i can only choose 9 albums and i think jenny from thebes is underrated. life-changing lyricism with orchestral instrumentation that could tear me in half. also i've talked so much about it on this blog i think it would be wrong of me not to mention it.

in sickness and in flames by the front bottoms. talk about cohesion!!!!! a whole album that is essentially a love letter to all the messiest parts of a relationship! all the characters are so interesting and flawed!! and every single one of the songs are unapologetically horny to boot. also just the transitions between songs are soooooooo good. not to be the 'jerk/the truth' guy but um. the switch from jerk into the truth is one of my all-time faves.

science from an easy chair by have gun, will travel. this is entirely the wrong blog but HEY. if anyone out there likes the terror, this album is for you. it's a story concept album about ernest shackleton's expedition to antarctica aboard the endurance. the first song i heard from it was the rescue party, which is one of the most atmospheric story-focused folk songs i've ever heard. just unbelievably emotional and smart. love it.

So you know how Stardust got really hurt multiple times during his first train ride. Including being crushed by an infamous space villain and nearly being consumed by a black hole. And nobody really commented on this- hell, the only one who does is Milky Way and she basically says 'that was one hell of a shockwave but you're weaker than I expected ngl'

Imagine Aurora Candy finding out about that. Poor Stardust was seriously injured and she didn't give him first aid at all. Not even a bandaid.

Hey everyone! I’m so sorry I’ve been so absent.

I’m very tired, mentally and physically right now, and as my mind and head are entering different communities, I am losing my touch.

Because I didn't give my in depth thoughts about Black Pearl and you guys wanted me to actually share my thoughts, I'll do that now

In all honesty, I think her design is really pretty

I think it's cool that she has a fish tail and would be the second Legendary with no legs (the first being Lotus)

I also think it's cool that she's also the first Legend to have slit eyes (the dragons are different because their sclera is black)

She also has ears of her own so that's one less detail I would need to add lmao

But

She also looks like if Sea Fairy's Dread Trident of the Abyss and Moonlight's Milky Way had a child

She has white wavy hair, her whole aesthetic is literally Abyss, she has similar eyelashes to Abyss, her crown is the same as Milky Way, her weapon is very similar to Abyss, etc., etc.

Her gem isn't even original either because while it's also on Abyss, Longan has a black pearl too

Now it could be argued that the dragons are their own group separate from the other Legends, but even then the dragons each had a different gem

Lychee and Longan might have the same shape of gem but they're drastically different colors

But in this case, Black Pearl's gem is also dark colored and oval shaped

While both do have different shine colors, they're both technically black pearls

Now is all of that pretty nitpicky?

Honestly, yeah it is

Every design made is an amalgamation of other design elements that make their own unique design and you can always find aspects in one design that's similar to another one

But it's the fact that this Legend looks similar to two other existing Legendaries that annoys me so much

She's also another new Legendary that came out of the blue pun not intended, and on top of that she's also sea themed

We already have two other sea themed Legends: Sea Fairy, who's already in Kingdom and Lotus, who's a dragon

Frost Queen could even be considered having the same element because ice is just frozen water

There's also all the content they had set up for the pre existing Legends, but I feel like I've shared that point to death

I'll still add her to the blog and when I make my design for her I'll definitely change a lot about her but as of right now, Black Pearl is my least favorite Legendary
