feeling very keenly today the way that gender transgressors from the past have such larger-than-life personalities -- the way their disobedience and outlawism creates fantastic, heroic, eccentric revolutionaries and how that language plays into modern day mythologies without attaching itself to the people who created the language in the first place (ex. rebels against The System) and how many of these people came from poverty or even slavery and how many were sex workers at one time or another and how many were considered mad by their peers and how many of them existed along axes of oppression

Halloween Ends (2022, dir. David Gordon Green) - review by Rookie-Critic
Tumblr media
Slight Halloween Kills spoilers lie ahead:
Halloween Ends was, much like the other two entries in this massive misfire of a trilogy, greatly disappointing and underwhelming. I have never, in my life, seen a trilogy of films introduce so many neat, unique, and new ideas into a stagnant franchise just to constantly, without fail, not deliver on any of them. This cool new character is created for the second film, Halloween Kills, and literally retconned into the events of the original movie. Seems pretty important right? They wouldn't just make a character seem that integral and build them up to make a commentary about the nature of fight or flight and how important it is to face your fears only to just unceremoniously do away with them, right? RIGHT?! Wrong, this is the very nature of David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy.
Similarly, a new character has been created for this new installment, as well. The entire opening sequence of the film revolves around this character, and it's interesting. They seemed to be building him up to do something refreshing with him and say something about Michael that, honestly, only Rob Zombie has ever dared to do. I allowed myself to believe that, finally, after three movies, this trilogy would actually try to do something interesting and unique, and yet again I was slapped across the face with the same boring, mundane slaughterfest this franchise has been plagued by since 1981's Halloween II (this, of course, excludes Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which is a massively underrated installment in the franchise that has absolutely nothing to do with Michael Myers and, really, I'm starting to wish it had gone down the anthology path as originally intended). Green and co-writer Danny McBride never hesitate to fast-pedal their way in the easiest direction, the path of least resistance. Michael shows up, Michael kills everything in sight, Michael moves on, rinse, repeat. It's just. So. Boring.
In all fairness, the cinematography and the acting are quite good (Jamie Lee Curtis never fails to impress), and John Carpenter's scores for all three films are fantastic, as always. Also, the climactic encounter at the film's end is massively entertaining, or at least it seemed that way in comparison to the rest of it. I'm just so tired of seeing this franchise fall prey to the highly unoriginal brutality porn and weak, lazy writing that we've gotten for a solid trilogy now. In response to Rob Zombie's 2007 remake of the original film, John Carpenter mentioned that the reason the remake didn't work (it did) was because Zombie tried to humanize Michael, he tried to give a reason for the madness, for the brutality. He posited that Michael (or "The Shape" as he is commonly referred to in the original film as well as Green's new trilogy) only works as an unstoppable force of nature. That explaining Michael only serves to strip him of the mystique that makes him so interesting. No offense to Mr. Carpenter, he is an incredibly talented director and one of the all-time greats, but that's bullshit. When you don't give Michael a reason for being, if he truly is just unstoppable, this whole operation crumbles under the weight of its own repetitiveness. That idea cannot sustain an entire trilogy, we just witnessed that fact. The idea that Michael is some supernatural force works for a single movie, it can add to the film's commentary about our fears of the unreasonable, the seemingly unreal, but past that it loses its appeal. The mystique dies around the twentieth time we see Michael unceremoniously stab a person that we weren't meant to care about in the first place.
All of that to say, while not nearly as wildly infuriating as Halloween Kills, Ends still manages to miss the mark and throw away the potential of something better, something more meaningful, and something worth watching. Laurie Strode deserves better, Michael Myers deserves better, and it is time for this franchise to, indeed, End.
Score: 4/10

The Warriors (1979)
Tumblr media
There’s much more to The Warriors than the iconic sound clip. You know, the one where David Patrick Kelly clinks bottles together and screeches “Warriors… come out tooo playyy-eyyy!”. It’s the kind of film that will make you wonder “what’s the big deal?”, until you realize it was made in 1979. Every decision regarding its characters, plot and style was a breakthrough at the time.
In the near future, criminal gangs who distinguish each other with distinct outfits, weapons or facepaint/masks have overrun the streets of New York. When Cyrus (Roger Hill), the leader of the Gramercy Riffs brings together nine unarmed representatives from every gang to propose a truce that would unite them all against the police, everyone seems on board. Then, Luther (Kelly), the sadistic leader of the Rogues assassinates him and pins the crime on the Warriors. Far from their turf, surrounded by enemies and without any weapons, it’ll be a long and dangerous trip home for them.
We’re reviewing the director’s cut, which is only marginally longer (76 seconds) but adds an introduction detailing the Battle of Cunaxa (which inspired the plot) and gives some of the scene transitions a comic book-like look. They’re necessary additions, but also not. When the picture was first released, it was called cartoonish, weird and implausible. These tweaks make it clear that we’re watching a tale set forward in time. Not a world where mankind has conquered the stars, but a dismal tomorrow where crime is rampant and gangs have adopted a version of war paint. Nearly every character in the film is a teenage male. Their criminal buddies – and make no mistake, these are criminals – are all they have. The only adults we see are police officers or civilians who barely escape the aimless youths. Parents are never mentioned or seen. Today, we’ve seen these ideas adapted and tweaked in multiple stories; everything from the villain-themed thugs in Batman Beyond to the sadistic masked killers in The Purge. It shows how influential this film is.
For the bulk of the picture, we’re following nine members of the Warriors. As their members dwindle, one character (played by Michael Beck) rises to become the protagonist. For the most part, you don’t get to know much of anyone’s backstory or even their names. The Warriors is about the immediacy of NOW. At any moment, the boys could take a wrong turn and die. You have no idea who could be next. Each moment of respite makes you feel uneasy. Who’s to say it isn’t a trap? Outgunned, and outnumbered, they have to bank on their wits to carry them through. If they can keep going long enough, the reputation they forge may be enough to get some of the small players to leave them alone out of fear. Even if they do make it home, however, this will only postpone their troubles. The entire city is still out for them and beyond that, they’re looking at bleak futures. There’s a key scene in which they come face-to-face with what could’ve been and it’s a devastating, sobering blow, a great moment you won’t forget.
Much of The Warriors is raw and unpolished, but that’s the way it should be. What cements it as a movie that will endure is its energy and the way it captures its themes and ideas. While it may have inspired others, there's nothing else quite like it. (On DVD, June 15, 2018)

Halloween Ends Review
First thing first, the elephant in the room must be addressed. Whatever you’ve taken away from the trailers and previews, that is not what this movie is. Is this the final showdown for Laurie Strode and Michael Myers (at least this version)? Yes it is. But there is a lot to the movie that was not really shown within any of the materials leading up to the movie. So while there won’t be anything…

Was it the Pesticides?
From 1990 to 2015, the number of people with Parkinson’s more than doubled from 2.6 million to 6.3 million. Ending Parkinson’s Disease I grew up in the Midwest, where mosquitoes were plentiful in the hot summer months. I remember riding my bicycle with my sister and friends behind the fumigation trucks as they sprayed their toxic chemicals to eradicate those annoying pests. No one knew at that…

2024 maxchael van horsey yapping
the ENTIRE Plot out of the way, there’s something so AGHFHAHGSJWHDJWJJ🔥🔥🔥🔥‼️‼️❤️❤️ about an intelligent arrogant actor who’s a perfectionist with very high morals about acting, and a nice dumb superficial reality tv star who was stunt cast as a lead having any sort of positive relationship through the dorothy filter
but it makes sense for michael’s character, not just because he’s a hypocrite, he values the person’s commitment and risk taking and focus !!! that’s what sandy had, that’s what max had!!!! even if the two aren’t necessarily good actors or anything like michael, sandy is literally one of Michael’s closest friends and michael (as dorothy) was able to form a friendship with someone you’d assume would be his biggest enemy I MEAN. evil man director, freeloader famous man RON CARLISLE AND MAX FALL UNDER THE SAME CATEGORY!! also on tour dorothy brushed off her annoyance towards max the second he mentioned reading shakespeare and got so excited so I think she’s just autism with it
( michaels a dick sure but people mischaracterize him so bad as this evil monster who spends the entire show treating his friends horribly 😢 )
but anyways john ((shout out to him for being the cast member who talked the most about his character, it saved 2019 and 2020 and 2022 and 2023 and um 2024 me cuz I just re listened to the laura heywood podcast I cant believe bi max has been canon for 5 years this year.)) BUT ANYWAYS BASED ON WHAT JOHN HAS SHARED ABOUT MAX he is presumably the only character that actually ends up forgiving michael ((chz julie is kinda up to interpretation)) which makes sense and NOT BECAUSE HES AN IDIOT but because
max didnt have to deal with as much burdens and lies michael left as julie and rita, whos relationships with dorothy were founded on womanhood. I mean after getting heartbroken and finding out the woman he was in love with and also had an infected tattoo of her face on his chest didn’t exist, Max continues Juliets Nurse with the new actress and then tries to do more acting with his newfound confidence that he gained FROM dorothy, AND realizes he still loves dorothy as michael :( the whole thing is awesome because hooray no longer dependent on your looks and body being the only worthy part of yourself ! hooray self esteem boosted ! hooray self discovery ! oh did I mention he hosts tv show after tootsie as well :D I wanna be a tv show host on day BUT as for his feelings for michael…..Painfully One Sided💔💔💔RIPMAX VAN HORN🙏
It’s hard to imagine they could maintain a friendship after tootsie in the sense that its kinda hard for me to figure out that the various scenarios I’ve thought of over the years would even be accurate considering how loud and delusional max is about his feelings, and if michael would even feel the same and how would that affect their chances at a friendship and AND. if Julie and Michael were to end up together that’d be the end of it 😭 Max seems to end up fine anyway so even if it’s a bittersweet ending, like sandys arc, michaelmaxxing ended, self respectmaxxing was achieved🙏 I need to make a separate post for the sandy/max parallels and their relationships with michael/dorothy BECAUSE THEYRE SO!!!! GOOD!!! I COULD WRITE ESSAYS
John mentioned that he tried to push for a line that would wrap up Maxs story in the end but it never found its way in and I feel like that would’ve changed the game…..Johnny Boy..Ty for ur service :3
but WUTEVER in my head dorothy and max shakespeare infodump and make out wrapped the ninja turtles blanket and my name is max and im wrapped in the same ninja turtles blanket and my dorothy isnt infodumpimg tootsie and making out w me so ima file a complaint real quick not cool bro. here is my favorite max and dorothy interaction frm the newer/and now unfortunately cut forever lines
max: you know, we should rehearse together sometime!
dorothy: sure! lets exchange numbers.
max: ….wont that confuse people trying to call us?
hi
Edit: Ok technically he does spend the entire show treating his friends horribly

Now Playing: Universal Pictures "Halloween Ends" (10/14/2022)
It’s time to be afraid my friends because the insidious creature known as Michael Myers aka “The Shape” has returned to dispatch anyone in his path. This is a topic we’ve discussed before on posts you can find HERE if you’ve missed anything. Is this the ending in the battle between Michael and his elusive prey Laurie Strode or will it continue along for yet another chapter. The film opens today…
