Why? I thought it would be fun. Also I realized that I have 52 GuyLobo AUs and thought this would be a fun time to show them off.

Harrow the Ninth by Tamryn Muir: good! I fucking struggled at the beginning getting through but it paid off. (3.5/5)

The Falls by Joyce Carol Oates: a fun gothic romance/tragedy set in Niagra Falls which took an environmentalist angle I was not expecting at all. Picked it up at a Goodwill and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. (4/5)

A Game of Thrones by GRRM: I mean, it's a classic. The way the plot unfolds at the end really is incredible, but from the first chapter it grips you. (4/5)

The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas: HOLY SHIT if you read one book because of me let it be this one, it is criminally underrated for how well known it is. It is thee action-adventure novel of all time, hysterically funny and easy to read. (5/5)

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: I took a little dip into YA to bring some autumn vibes to my summer internship. Plot was bad, vibes came through. (2.5/5)

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte: fucking slaps!! anyone who thinks it isn't romantic is dead wrong, I found it much more engaging than Jane Eyre, the other Bronte novel I've read. (4.5/5)

Just Above My Head by James Baldwin: a gripping account of two black families before and during the civil rights movement, of which one son becomes a famous gospel singer. Julia, one of the daughters and a child evangelist, stuck with me long after I finished it (5/5)

Nona the Ninth by Tamryn Muir: enjoyed it more than HTN, Nona asking about her birthday present made me cry, as did Campal :( (4.5/5)

That Summer In Paris by Morley Callaghan: put me in a massive reading slump over a silly little Goodwill read, never have I been less entertained by what was essentially a book of entirely gossip about 1920s writers. (2/5)

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: read it immediately after ABOSAS, holds up in its entirety, particularly in the environmental descriptions (4/5)

A Clash of Kings by GRRM: I've already posted about this a ton but holy shit, it's slow getting there but the payoff is incredible. really excited to keep reading bc George absolutely sold me on this web of political and personal relationships. (4.5/5)

A Place Bewitched and Other Stories by Nikolai Gogol: the cap for the year, bleak Russian short stories about weird little tales. would hit harder during fall. (3/5)

current TTRPG blorbo lineup:

Madea: no1 blorbo. (she/they/depends on what face she's wearing)A fiendish changling who was raised in a church (did not go well) has a totally normal relationship with the girl she was raised with and has very good coping mechanisms (this is sarcasm). Has so much fire magic and really can only cast fire magic. her highest stat is her charisma, which is 16, and her lowest is strength at 8. girl failure is doomed by the narrative and is just falling apart at the seams. the party thinks she's doing so much better than she actually is doing. Killed her shitty dad at least

Ale: aka Omolale a mausraman (human subrace homebrew) binder (dnd 3.5 class) (they/he/she/it). They're the old gods specialist little guy, but they really do not like being chosen for four different warring factions. They were put on this planet for a good time, not a long time, and are just baffled why so many people hold them up and say, "This is the dude (gender neutral) I want". Recently found out that they aren't even from the current universe they reside within and are just so in over their head when they want to just hang and get high and maybe smack some monsters for cash, but the multiverse seems to have other plans for them. Also, their name is a slur in their mother tongue, which is why they usually just go by Ale, they just think being called an alcoholic beverage is very funny: Ale's highest stat is strength at 20-24 (depending on what buffs they have active) and their lowest score is dex at 8. ale is a charisma caster.

Rossien: (he/him) an elf beaskin wizard from the ficcoria (basically the fairy country) who came from a lower-noble family and was blessed to be a beaskin, he looks like a large slender owl with humanoid proportions, and while his whole large family had a propensity for the magic he found his way to the wizarding arts. after an unknown force attacked his family so he found himself out on his own he tried to settle down and start over but failed to do so ending up divorced and back on the road for a few years. he is trying once again to get his life back in order by getting his education and ability to vote where he currently lives but due to ending up in an adventuring party it's not looking good on that front.

Ida: (she/her) a now retired adventurer (ie has turned into an NPC) human bloodhunter order of the lycan. the TL:DR for ida is she got bit by a werewolf that attacked her home. She went out for milk (a cure to her lycanthropy) for a decade. Decided that she had enough control over her power to go back home and is not back to being a lesbian housewife <3 also, she adopted like a half-dozen kids along the way (her adventuring party). she has a loving wife, a biological son whom she has a strained relationship with (see leaving for a decade), and an adopted tiefling son who she found on the side of the road and took home like a mangy dog.

Tyblin: the newest blorbo and is yet to be 100% fleshed out due to the game starting at level 1, and not yet even going. Tyblin Stonecutter (she/her) is a ranger drakewarden goblin. Due to a bout of Encephalitis when she was a wee bab she has nerve damage in her legs and lower spine, causing great difficulty and pain when she walks. her mom is excellent and made sure Tyblin did not die during this time and is trying her hardest as a single mom. Tyblin's father is a mystery Mamma Mia esc situation where Tyblin's mom was an adventurer for a brief time and had many relations with many strapping young men and women, so even she's unsure who Tyblin's other parent may have been. Anyway, Tyblin is going to get a weird dog who does not leave her alone, and also that dog is a nuclear warhead and one of the queen's swans. once she's settled into being an adventure she's going to love it but until that moment clicks she's so in over her head

Joan: (she/her) Technically an NPC, Joan is one of my favorites to run. she's 18, she's 50, she's a spoiled brat, she's seen the horrors of war, she's an atheist who works directly for a goddess, she hates adventurers, her brother was an adventurer, she's dead, her best friend is a dog, she kills undead for her job, and she's even asexual. every time she shows up and introduces herself as Graywinter the party and players are like, "holly shit your last name is GRAYWINTER like the BBEG?!" and every time, she's just like "This is why I hate adventurers

Mike is not the “Heart” he's the “Leader”

Spoilers for Stranger things 4

In vol 2

Will calls Mike the heart of the group

I now think that was Will’s way of viewing Mike concerning himself not necessarily the group or even El

As to Will Mike is the heart because of how he would care for him and the rest of his friends

Screencrush went over this already and it wasn't a bad video so watch it if you want

But since I wanted to go into depth differently, I'm going to break down the five-man band trope for the kids

Five man band trope is a trope where there are five characters that fill five archetypes

Since no one will fit each role 100% as there will be overlap, I'll try to match each kid to each role

Also to point out that the show Dnd roles have some backing to this

Mike: The Leader

In season 1 Mike was clearly the leader of the four kids

In seasons 2 & 3 he didn't lead as explicitly but among the kids, he did take charge a lot

In season 4 the group was divided but in Mike’s group even with Jonathan being the older one Mike could be seen as the leader of that group as he wanted to find El, had the Suzie idea, etc

Other qualities that help make him the leader are that he’s pretty outspoken and confident to a certain degree and does have a way of having people support his ideas

Dustin: Smart Guy

In season 1 Dustin had the most knowledge of the kids, especially considering Will was MIA and Eleven doesn't know much, from the compass to just calling their science teacher for more knowledge

This carries on through all the seasons as no one is as nerdy or geeky as the kids and Dustin is arguably the smartest of them

Plus he used a lot of tech, as he's the one primarily with the walkie-talkie, compasses and DND knowledge, etc

The smart guy is usually not the most physically capable but is the one with plans or figures out problems which fits Dustin

Lucas: Lancer

Lucas was tricky as he's the one where this role can be swapped with someone else depending on the situation

I picked him as the Lancer

as the lancers' main thing is how they foil the Leader

Foil as in they highlight certain qualities of their counterpart which in Lucas's case is Mike

In season 1 Lucas was the skeptic to Mike’s accepting/optimism as he was the one doubting and not liking El and wanting to find Will whereas Mike was super focused on El

His skepticism carries through the series even in season 4 where he was last to believe more crazy upside-down stuff was happening again as he didn't believe Eddie, etc at first

In season 2 his and Mike's roles kind of swapped as now Lucas was the one excited and accepting of the new girl Max and Mike was skeptical, etc

So even then they contrast each other even when they flip perspectives

Lucas doesn't necessarily become the leader when Mike’s not there as other characters like Steve Nancy and Hopper take that role,

But he's often one to be on the front lines, contrasting Mike as he’s not the one to be confronting and more protecting, as from the slingshot to the fireworks to fighting Jason he steps up, even with a small example like the both wanting to be the same ghost buster in season 2 he and Mike have the similarities that make then foil each other

And he’s also the one who’s most likely to go off on his own which is another lancer trait, as season 1 he went off after he and mike fought, season 2 he was more with Max and Dustin, season 4 he had the basketball team etc

Well Lucas and another character have this trait

Eleven: Tough guy/Powerhouse

Another tough one could be another one that could fill Lancer because of her relation to Mike and how she has her side adventures a lot of the time. So very much can be switched with Lucas

But Eleven is undoubtedly the most powerful member on our side

She also has the “dumb” but tough trope but altered as hers is just a lack of knowledge and a normal upbringing as she could barely speak or understand things in season 1 and even now she's still working on her English

The tricky part is Eleven is arguably the main character so you would think her role would be different, which in the show it is she's a big focal point and arguably the leader, heart, etc of the whole show

But in the group of 5/6, I think this is her role as power dynamics, etc aren't a big factor as they're all friends and Mike being the leader and Dustin being the smart guy doesn’t diminish her

As even though Eleven is this super powerful character she's still a teenager that listens to her “parents” and friends

Will: The Heart

Will is in a lot of ways the emotional core of the group

In season 1 everything was because of Will and the group was falling apart without him

In season 2 can be seen as the group being more healthy with Wills presence despite the plot and only real issues was unrelated to Will because of Max and Eleven

He's the most sensitive one too, literally and emotionally, he's the one that can sense when the group is being fractured and also when the upside-down stuff is happening with his neck tingle

And also the boys do kind of “big brother” him as despite being the same age they do protect him and encourage him a lot as he's more shy and quiet and smaller

And El is basically his sister now and they look out for each other

The group in a lot of ways doesn't work without Will as we can see in season 4 as the Hawkins kids group were divided, Eleven was struggling and etc

Will even if he doesn't realize it is the emotional support of the group

Max: The sixth ranger

Just the term for when the group gets a later sixth member

She came “late” as she's a season 2 character and everyone else is a season 1 character

She changes the dynamic of the group from Lucas (and Dustin) crush on her, Mike's dislike of the feeling of replacing El, El's jealousy, Will losing friends, etc

She is in a lot of ways the outsider that is only really apart because of Lucas, Dustin and in season 3 El

She also foils a lot of the groups characters causing some friction but growth as well

Max kind of fills in whatever role she needs to be in seasons 2 & 3, she can lead, she can foil, she can be the smart guy, the tough guy, or support

For Mike she's a foil, to El she supports, to Dustin she's tough to his smart, etc

Bonus

Erica Sinclair: The tagalong kid

The younger character that tags along

Usually later or temporary member and is usually the “7th” member

She’s the youngest, usually, a younger sibling to a member in this case Lucas, and in a lot of ways is more innocent than the rest but can also fill in a role when someone’s not there like she did for Lucas for Hellfire DND and she fills in for another one of the kids since Mike will and el are elsewhere for season 4 and in season 3 she fills out Dustin’s group dynamic more as Steve and Robin had there dynamic and now Dustin had someone to bounce off with

All in all

It's not perfect like I said Lucas and Eleven can flip roles or can even both be Lancers, Max can be plugged into any role

And since rarely all six are together there's usually someone else like a Steve that would fill the role someone else usually does

And in other groups, people like Mike and Lucas fill different roles

As like in season 1 Mike was the leader Lucas the lancer and Dustin was most likely the Heart which makes the power trio for example and this happens a lot as you can separate a lot into trios or duos like the Dustin Lucas max trio or the El Will Mike trio, the El Max duo, etc

But when it's the five/six/seven of them Mike is the leader with strong feelings for his friends, Dustin is the smart guy with a plan, Lucas is skeptical but loyal, Eleven is the powerful sweetheart that's still learning and naive, and Will is the sensitive one that can detect danger and problem, Max the wild card with really a heart of gold

DQXI Crossover prompts

Crossover week: Home | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |

A various selection of four fic ideas I think would be cool mixed with DQXI.

Dungeons and Dragons but written in the fashion of the Adventure Zone graphic novels — i.e., we’re seeing everything from the perspective of this fantasy world, but there are indeed third-wall-breaking moments where, for example, the DM might pop in to say something or the characters might talk directly to him. Breaking the immersion is part of the fun.

So, the DQXI cast goes on a DnD adventure but with the meta of each of those characters being played by someone existing in modern times. So, maybe two plots happening at the same time? Or focus could be given primarily to the DnD party and their shenanigans. Who is the elf? Who is the orc? Who’s boring and decides to be a human? Which classes do they choose and what kind of ridiculous strategy do they concoct for defeating a bad guy? What is everyone’s awesome backstory shrouded in mystery?

Persona Series: Haven’t actually played any of the games, but I know a Large group of high school students team up to defeat an evil whose time is literally ticking. In Persona 5 there were confidants, and before that social links. (Also, it’s really funny— if you google “confidant,” some of it is P5 stuff lol)

Who gets which confidant? Why? Who are they trying to defeat? What sentiment animal thing joins their team and has some weird quirk? And why do I have a crush on literally every Persona protag ever???

Pokémon: Give each DQXI character a Pokémon team. Make it themed, make it random. Maybe Erik has a Sneasel and Meowth, or maybe he has a Trubbish because life is cruel and you don’t always get to decide what team you’re gonna have. My personal HC is that Eleven will pick up whatever Pokémon he encounters, so he ends up with a lot of Pokémon he met at the start of his adventure, and yeah, it’s a little random but he loves all of them.

Hendrik and Jasper could be Team Rocket and Obsidian the, uh, Mudsdale, could replace Meowth!

Dragon Quest Treasures: It’s not even out yet and I already want to do a crossover. I’ve seen bits of fanart floating around with the concept I’m envisioning: Erik and bab prince!El traveling around this little universe. Perhaps Erik and Mia were traveling on a boat and they got shipwrecked, so Erik and Mia are separated when Erik wakes up and he has to find her again. Alternatively, Mia and Erik arrive on El’s lil island and El offers to help them look for treasure.

the bakarina anime is done! it’s just a drop in the ocean that is the otome isekai genre so these are some recs + what you need to know about them. i just listed most of my favs otherwise it’d be too long :p

definitely deserves the ‘video game’ tag. isabella can see status screens and character stats/skills etc, and all the gacha rewards and grinding transferred over after her reincarnation. she’s the isekai female protag we’ve always wanted

seriously the main ship is too op for their own good aha

deathbound duke’s daughter

in a past life, erika only managed to finish 2.5/7 scenarios of an otome game thanks to an unlucky encounter with knife-kun. with the different flags of her impending doom approaching, she takes things into her own hands years before the game events start

very fantasy-oriented (the most on this list) and pretty action-packed, once you get past the game exposition in the first 3? chapters

the world building is brilliant, from the hafan mages to the aurelian alchemists, and there’s beasts and wands and spells and dnd stuff sprinkled in

the cast has quite interesting dynamics and interwoven plotlines, and they’re all dorky in their way :>

beware of the villainess

melissa remembers a novel from her past life and desperately tries to cut off contact with the male leads, but they still make her life hell & she rages

she’s just so done with everyone and you can’t help but relate to her

definitely the funniest on this list XD melissa and her reactions takes the cake but even the shit characters are hilarious in their own way

there’s also a lot of parodies to memes etc & best of all, there’s cussing. all the shits and fucks. a whole lot of it

penelope wakes up as the villainess from a game she’d been playing in her past life, only right now it's on the hardest difficulty where death is literally everywhere. thus she tries, well, not dying

what’s cool about this is that penelope has access to the original game system. she can see menus, choice options etc. the male leads even have affection percentages floating above their heads :> which is always cool to see (and what i’m a sucker for)

but it’s definitely one of the darker ones on this list. iirc there’s depictions of violence, abuse, drugs and then some. just a fair warning

the daughter of albert house wishes for ruin

upon realizing that she’s the villainess from a past-life otome game, mary decides to stay as one. chaos ensues

i love this manga so much, everyone is so quirky and there’s something to laugh about on almost every page. the story almost feels self-aware of itself and just lets the characters do whatever. like ride bikes

addie is so cute ;o;

well... beastmen. that’s all you need to know /wink

okay, that aside, it’s just as chill as the title suggests. ronia slowly makes friends she can trust, and the beastmen find a second home in the only cafe that’s willing to accept them. it’s pretty wholesome

the banished villainess! living the leisurely life of a nun making revolutionary food

despite actively trying to change her ‘villainess from a past-life otome game’ fate since childhood, elizabeth gets annulled, her noble title stripped, and is sent to a church in a neighboring kingdom. she enjoys it more than expected, despite the appearance of the ever watchful leonid

there’s plenty of 21st-century food like sandwiches, cotton candy leonid’s muscles <3

the entire cast is lovable, and can chris get an f for all the heart attacks leonid keep giving him

seduce the villain’s father

yereninovica (or just yerenica) realizes that she’s in the world of a novel she read in her past life, but as the aunt of said novel’s mc. after thwarting a kidnapping that’s basically the mc’s origin story, she takes it upon herself to also prevent the tragic death of emperor belgoat

a bit different since it switches the roles around (side character x side character) and goes into the “parent generation” of the original work

there’s also an interesting bit where the world seems to recognize her as a hijacker, and where that takes her, we’ll see in due time :o:

after a ritual gone wrong, “yamada tarou” (fake name) is stuck in the world of an otome game. the only way back is with a magical ring, normally obtained after becoming the lover of one of the male leads. he of course says no i’m going adventuring but the game doesn’t like that

it’s absolutely hilarious - the leads treat our mc like a heroine, and there’s a lot of otome tropes that are called out on/parodied. like the seiyuus’ names oh my god

tarou’s reactions are great and his appraisal skill is the funniest thing alive

endo and kobayashi’s live commentary on the villainess

in modern japan, endo and kobayashi start their playthrough of an otome game, which becomes a bit glitchy and odd. they discover that siegward, a male lead in the game, can hear what they’re saying. they use this chance to finally give lisolette a happier ending

much of the story’s focus is on the characters slowly warming up to lisolette, and a bit on endo/kobayashi’s irl relationship. despite being the primary drive of the story, lisolette herself hardly moves the plot - if you know what i mean

regardless it’s undeniably adorable

tearmoon empire

no isekai, more of time travel? chronoskimming?

mia wakes up 10 years in the past after being sentenced to death. now afraid of guillotine-kun, she strives to solve the issues in her kingdom that had previously led to her doom

a bit similar to bakarina in terms of concept: avoid death flags, unknowingly recruits the people she meets into her little saintess cult. the misinterpretation is very strong, and in brilliantly funny ways

it has really fun narration ngl especially in the light novel

of course, i’ll claim palimony!

to prepare for her annulment, yulia starts scheming recording her fiance’s meetups with the heroine to use as evidence. if you’re gonna lose a suitor, might as well get some money out of it, right? along the way she gets involved with rudonik, one of the male leads

no reincarnation. rather than an otome game, the villainess story comes from a book written by a side character, and the “heroine” just decided to play it out in real life

the cast together is a riot, and it’s entertaining to watch yulia only think in profits and every connection she can make to achieve it

the villainess’ slow prison life began with her broken engagement

no isekai, just a plain old villainess

post-annulment, rachel is sentenced to imprisonment. which she enjoys and is thoroughly, hilariously prepared for

everyone’s a little afraid of rachel and for good reason. it’s better to find out yourself through the LN or manga, but let’s just say that even the king doesn’t want to deal with her XD

the holy grail of eris

now this one is interesting, putting the villainess trope into a mystery ghost story. that said, no isekai either

our innocent heroine constance attends a party and encounters scarlet, an executed villainess from ten years ago. a body possession and some public embarrassment later, they decide to team up to solve the mystery that might be behind scarlet’s death

i mean, ghost villainess? sign me up

inso’s law (modern isekai, and quite cute!)

the reincarnated young lady aims to be an adventurer / holy guardian tiger (similar to deathbound duke’s daughter in that there’s more of a focus on the fantasy aspect)

expecting to fall into ruin, i aim to become a blacksmith (so far the only one with a shounen tag that i like; its main charm is probably the cast and their interactions with each other eliza best girl)

since i’ve reincarnated as the villainess’ father i’ll shower my wife and daughter with love (big big wholesome vibes)

level 99 villainous daughter (severely op lady who takes no shit from the people looking down at her, and regularly thinks about blowing up the academy within the first 4 chapters? hell yeah)

All of these are still in the design and concept stages but more or less this is what I nailed for the designs (excluding sam). These are from my look book series which is why they look spiffy but in their actual universe where they are struggling college students you know they be lookin like a hot mess and when they initially start they are 18/ 19 years old in their second year of college

Kailani “Kai” Rivers - half black / half hawaiian

Practicing wiccan from her father’s side. Film major. In a committed relationship with Mia Tram for half a year. She is head strong but very compassionate. Her dream is to direct musicals/ plays and to continue doing work with Mia in the future. They are currently roommates in the same apartment complex as Leo.

Leonardo “Leo” Mori - Half filipino / half japanese

Digital Art major and supernatural enthusiast. Leo is shy and awkward but when you get to know him he warms up to you. He loves conspiracy theories and believes in the paranormal. His best friend is Sam and he has a very noticeable crush.

Mia Tram- Vietnamese American

Vocal performance & acting major. Mia is really fashionable and is very outgoing and passionate about music. Her goal is to perform one of her gf’s plays / musicals and continue to work together. Her fave musical is Rent.

Taemin “Tae” Park - Korean American

Game development/ computer science major. Taemin is sarcastic but a compassionate friend when you get to know him. He loves dnd and often hosts games for his friends. When Taemin came out as trans Leo was the second to know, Tae’s twin sister was the first.

Samuel “Sam” Carson - White/ Native American

((OG belongs to @inflomora-art but was so sweet to let me include him in my capstone because originally the cast was just supposed to be him and Leo on adventures :D))

Doesn’t go to school but works freelance in photography as well as part time in a brick and mortar shop. His best friend is Leo and other than having a just as noticeable crush he is interested in cryptids. He drove to the small town of craven from montana and is known as a “mysterious outsider.”

Wallace “Wally” Oliver - white (British/ Scottish decent)

Film Major. Plays baseball for the Craven Ravens (they kinda suck). He comes off as a jerk but is really a sweet guy who needs better friends. After meeting the group he tries to be a better person. He has a slight crush on Kailani but admires her work mostly.

These are my characters and i hope to make them official and introduce them in my story :’) I love all of them and I can’t wait for them to hunt ghosts!

Basically for my thesis I wanted to focus on representation and and diversity in storytelling. As of lately I’ve been seeing a lot of graphic novels touching on topics such as identity, sexuality, ect. books like The Prince’s Dressmaker, Taproot, Nimona, and OMG Check Please have a fun and charming story as well as wonderful representation. For my senior year I really wanted to try and do that too so this school year I hope to prove to myself I can make this happen and hoping to grow as an artist and person.
