Just Shapes - Chapter 11

Day 11 (Saturday)

LBerry: Planets are to be pitied as they cannot know how big and cool they are.

Roman managed to slip out of the house with minimal berating from his mom about getting in so late, which he chalked up to a miracle in and of itself. He couldn’t find Elliott or Dr Picani during his late afternoon wanderings, but he did find Talyn back up on the roofs and the two quickly started making there way to the tracks with some more tin soldiers for Talyn to destroy. As they arrived and got into position, Talyn looked over at him and said, “You look horrible. Like you have been through way too many wash cycles, Killer.” Roman rolled his eyes, pulling up his legs and waiting for the train to pass before responding, “Look, it’s been a long week.” “Yeah, how much sleep did ya get last night?” Talyn challenged. Roman furrowed his brow as he tried to remember when exactly he went to bed, “I think it was 14 hours. So, less than usual.” Talyn gave some sort of indistinguishable sound of surprise and Roman looked over at them in confusion. “14 hours is less than usual?” Talyn gasped. “Dude, I’m lucky if I hit five.” Roman turned his head away before answering, “Look, I don’t rest well when I sleep. I feel more rested the more I get because of my nightmares.” Talyn hummed in agreement, “Now, nightmares I can understand. But you really shouldn’t be sleeping for 14 or however many hours you do sleep.” Roman didn’t answer, choosing to just lay there as the train passed by. Once it did, he chose to change the subject, “You know what Possum Springs is lacking?” “Wifi? Cell service? Any technology post-1980’s? A public pool?” “All of those, yes. But I was thinking that what Possum Springs is really lacking is-” Roman paused for dramatic effect, “-a serial killer!” Talyn raised a carefully coloured eyebrow at him, “Dude, don’t you count?” Roman huffed, “No, not me! A real bonafide killer who, you know, wants to kill people.” “Well, you did try to kill someone,” Talyn tried to point out. “No, I didn’t,” Roman turned his head away. “People think you did.” “I wasn’t trying to kill him. It was just a thing that happened,” Roman snapped, his voice trailing off as another train came by. Once it passed, Roman stood up and started to walk away. “Wait, where are you going?” Talyn called after him. “Don’t you want to see the monsters?” Roman turned back to them with a sad smile, “No thanks. I’m gonna go find my own.” Talyn’s whole face melted into one of confusion and horror. “Be safe, Talyn. Please,” Roman turned and walked away, not entirely surprised when Talyn didn’t come running after him. After all, he had given them no reason to.

Roman found Virgil at the Ole’ Pickaxe, giving about a hundred different warnings to his employee, Corbin, about what he would do if he came back and found even one part of the store out of place. Roman was impressed that Corbin’s face managed to stay fairly impassive through the whole exchange, only the slightest inkling of worry etching on his brow. As soon as Roman and Virgil finally left, Virgil lit up a cigarette and said, blowing the smoke into the air, “I hope I didn’t terrify him too bad. He’s a good employee.” Roman frowned, “He didn’t look hardly scared to me.” Virgil smirked as he unlocked the car, “Oh, he was freaking terrified. Corbin’s just really good at hiding it. Now buckle up, it’s a long drive.” “How long?” Roman asked as he shut his door. “90 minutes give or take, depending on how many people are out on the road,” Virgil said, snuffing out his cigarette before climbing in himself. Virgil was right, it was a long drive. Roman was extremely tired still, so he dozed on and off while Virgil blared loud music from the stereo. It was only when they pulled into a small town that Virgil turned the music down and Roman started to pay attention to the town. “I’ve never been to Gainesville before?” Virgil took another puff of the cigarette he was smoking, “Yeah, it is kinda small compared to wherever you went to school, but it has a university. Nice college town. Maybe you should have come here, then you wouldn’t have been so far away.” Roman grunted, “Yeah, maybe. Who do you even know here though?” “Old friend from high school, you probably don’t know her,” Virgil said as he started to pull into an open spot on the side of the street. “Really?” Roman questioned. When Virgil didn’t respond, Roman huffed and turned to look back out the window. He noticed the sign of one of the storefronts, “Hey, look! They have a scouts program here! Remember when we were in that.” Virgil hummed as he stepped out of the car, “Yeah, that’s where we met.” “Why did you even pick me out of all people to hang out with there?” Roman asked, closing his door behind him. “I started hanging with you cause I was new and you seemed smart and fun,” Virgil explained. Roman turned to him, “Well, what am I now?” “Fun,” Virgil deadpanned. “I hate how you keep saying I’m not smart,” Roman huffed, following Virgil who had started walking down the street. “Sorry,” Virgil said with a smirk. “I’m mostly kidding.” “Mostly?” Roman questioned but didn’t get a chance to continue as Virgil quickly snuffed out his cigarette, returned the other half to his case, and started down a set of stairs. Roman quickly scrambled after him, following him into what seemed to be a basement bar. A girl with short brown hair was standing at the bottom of the stairs, peering up with a glass bottle in her hands. As soon as she recognized Virgil, she exclaimed, “Verge! Where have you been? I was beginning to think you wouldn’t make it!” Roman peered around Virgil as he said, “Yeah, sorry about that.” The girl laughed, “Dude, it’s no issue. But I have a few possible prospects and I didn’t want to let that go to waste. Boy, you reek of cigarette smoke!” “This whole place does,” Virgil snarked, shoving his hands into his hoodie pockets. “Yeah, but it is wafting off of you. I thought you said you were gonna cut back and try to- who is this?” the girl had finally noticed Roman and was now glaring at him. Roman tried for a nice smile, holding out a hand, “Hi, I’m Ro-” “Everyone knows who you are, Roman Sanders,” the girl crossed her arms, one long fingernail against her bottle. “Oh, um,” Roman pulled his hand back as he struggled to find some way to respond to that. “Valerie,” Virgil cautioned. “I brought him. Now, what is the plan?” Valerie narrowed her eyes before turning to Virgil, “Dancing first. When the guys I have my eye on come back, then we move in.” “Are you sure?” Virgil asked, his voice dropping more and more into his deadpan. “Now, Verge, have I ever let you down before?” “Well, there was that one debacle with the-” “Other than that incident we never speak of,” Valerie cut him off. Virgil sighed then shook his head. “Good, let’s go.” “Man, she is intense,” Roman whispered to Virgil as they followed her out to the dance floor. “Yeah, well, she is just looking out for me. She was my only friend in high school,” Virgil said. Roman stopped as the reminder hit him, letting Virgil go slightly out in front of him before following once again. They weren’t out on the dance floor for very long before Valerie stopped them and pointed back towards the entrance. “I see them. Let’s go,” she grabbed Virgil’s hand and made to pull him towards whomever she had her targets set on, but Virgil dug in his heels quickly. He looked back at Roman, “You’ll be okay, right?” “Yeah, I’ll come find you when I’m done dancing,” Roman nodded. “Okay, no alcohol, remember.” And with that, Virgil was gone, following Valerie through the crowd. Roman continued to dance for a while but was beginning to think that he should get a drink when he spotted someone leaning against the wall. He slowly walked over greeting them with a loud hi. The mysterious person looked over at him, their piercing blue eyes staring directly at him from under their fluffy blue bangs, “Hey.” “Um, do I know you?” Roman asked, vaguely noticing a hint of black ink peeking out from under the person’s scarf. “Nope,” the person said, a smile on their face. “What’s your name?” “Roman. Roman Sanders,” he introduced himself with a slight bow. “Roman,” they repeated. “I like it. Sounds like it could be royalty if your last name was King or Prince.” Roman laughed, “Nope. But I could be a witch for all you know. Maybe I have hexed you with my name.” The undeniably cute person laughed in response, a dimple appearing in their right cheek, “Well, Roman Sanders. What’s your story?” Roman thought for a long moment. He could lie, but this cute girl, boy? Whatever they were, he just didn’t feel like lying to them. “I’m a recent college dropout,” he explained. “I am chasing a ghost or it is chasing me, I’m not really sure. I’ve had these dreams that I’m not sure were dreams, more like jumbled bits of history. I think I met god, but who’s to say. But I’m pretty sure the ghost kidnapped someone. I’m like 90% sure I didn’t imagine that, but my friends aren’t buying it. I came home in order to feel normal again, but that isn’t really working out. But then I came here and I saw you and…” Roman trailed off, looking up at those gorgeous eyes again. Upon realizing they looked extremely worried, he laughed nervously, scratching at the back of his neck, “I just realized I’ve never listed that all out at once before.” “Wow,” they breathed out. “I stole your life story.” Roman chuckled, ‘Yeah, I guess.” “Hey,” the person reached out to grab Roman’s hand. “Watch this,” they placed their own hand on top of Roman’s and then traced a pattern over top with a blue-painted finger. Roman instantly felt about ten times calmer. “Wow,” he breathed. “Pretty cool, huh?” they smiled, still holding onto Roman’s hand. Roman looked back up at those eyes, “Wow.” They chuckled and then they both just stood there for a long moment. Roman finally said, “Um, I’m gonna go let my friend know I’m over here. I told him I would let him know when I was done dancing.” “Okay,” they leaned in a little closer. “You do that.” They dropped Roman’s hand, leaning back against the wall. Roman took a step back, finding moving very difficult. “I-I’ll be right back,” he managed. “I’ll be here.” Roman took another two steps back before finally turning and ducking through the crowd, trying to find Virgil and/or Valerie and let them know he was going to be over there talking to that bombshell of a person. He found both of them talking to a couple of more guys. “Hey Verge!” he called out as he walked over to stand next to his friend, eyeing the glass bottle of bright green liquid in his hands. “Hey Roman. This is Nate,” Virgil said, waving at one of the guys who merely hummed, scratching at the stubble on his chin. “And I’m Sloane,” the other guy said, a smile on his face. “Your friend is pretty cool.” “Yeah,” Roman looked up at Virgil, noting how rigid he was standing. “Yeah, he’s pretty alright. Did he tell you I saw a ghost the other day?” Roman raised an eyebrow in confusion as Virgil giggled, but Sloane just asked, “Like Memento Mori?” “Yeah, yeah, sick transit glorya nerd,” Roman scoffed. When Virgil giggled again, he turned more towards him, “You’re laughing a lot.” “So,” Nate spoke up, apparently not having heard Roman’s comment. “Virgil, that’s an old name. Like something you hear in a book.” “A book you like?” Virgil suggested. Roman looked up at his friend in confusion. This was very weird. Did Virgil always act this way around others when Roman wasn’t around? That couldn’t be right. “I used to read a lot,” he spoke up, trying to redirect the conversation with the first thing that popped into his mind. “My grandad read to me when I was younger. Before he got dementia and died.” There was silence for a moment before Nate spoke again, “Sorry about your grandad, dude.” “It’s okay, it was years ago,” Roman shrugged. “Virgil’s mom is dead too.” Virgil let out another nervous giggle, hissing between his teeth, “Roman, stop.” “It’s okay,” Roman turned back towards the boys, purposely avoiding Valerie’s darkening glare. “I’m sure everyone here knows someone who has died.” There was silence for a long moment and Roman was starting to worry when Sloane spoke up, “My dog died last spring when my house exploded. There was a gas leak from when my dad hit the line trying to dig up the dog we had before that because we were going to move and my dad said he had to come with us.” There was silence for another long moment as everyone stared this time at Sloane. “Wow,” Valerie finally said, breaking everyone’s stares. “So, Nate, what are you majoring in?” Virgil asked, trying to get the conversation back to where it was before. “Political science,” Nate said, taking a sip from his own bottle, the liquid a murky brown. “Oh, that’s cool. Are there a lot of jobs in that?” Virgil asked. “Oh, I don’t know,” Nate shrugged. “I just find it really interesting. I think you have to be pretty materialistic to go to college just to get a job afterwards.” “That’s interesting because-” “Whoa, stop!” Roman cut off Virgil, his voice low. “Check out rich kid over here. Gonna pay zillions of dollars to go to school just cause something ‘is interesting.’ Verge, check this guy out. You ever worked a day in your life, prep?” Nate took a step back, frowning, “I interned at my uncle’s law firm, yes.” “Well, I bagged groceries,” Roman growled back. Virgil laughed lowly before saying, “That is so interesting. Roman, do you want to go dance some more?” Roman looked up at him, but before he could answer, Virgil gave him a subtle push, “You should go dance.” “Yeah, my parents own their own business, so,” Nate spoke again and Roman chose to stick around while Virgil was distracted again. “Oh, tell me about it,” Virgil asked with genuine interest. “I know a thing or two about running a small business.” Nate smiled, “Wanna go across the street and get a pizza?” “I could eat,” Virgil said. “And it’s a small business!” “You speak their language,” Nate laughed. “You can get us free slices.” Roman growled. He was sick and tired of this guy. “Verge doesn’t like spoiled rich kids, Maggie.” Valerie cut in, “I would like to go with you guys if you don’t mind.” “Sure,” Virgil said with a smile. “The more the merrier.” Roman was done with this whole situation. Why was Virgil acting so weird? He was obviously still super tense, but wanting to hang with these spoiled brats more. The lights of the bar were starting to blend together in Roman’s peripheral vision, but he had his sights set in on a certain guy who still stood out clearly from the crowd. “Hey Michael, let me tell you something about Virgil Alighieri. He is super on top of things, super smart, and super responsible. He runs like the biggest store in Possum Springs.” “Roman, no,” Virgil whispered. Sloane spoke louder, confusion on his face, “What the heck is Possum Springs?” “It’s west, in the mountains,” Nate explained. Roman just kept going, his eyes flashing, making the red more obvious, “While rich kid over here is studying politicians or whatever, Virgil’s out in the real world. Not like you college kids.” “Roman!” Valerie gasped, her hand clenched so tight that if her bottle was plastic, she surely would have crushed it. “What?” Nate looked over at Virgil in confusion, while Virgil just stared down at the ground, nervously giggling to himself. “I’m kinda over the whole college thing myself. Virgil and I basically run Possum Springs except there’s like a ghost or something,” Roman continued. “You two live in Possum Springs?” Sloane questioned. “Yeah, got a problem with that?” Roman snapped back. “Wow,” Nate whistled. “You drove all the way here from Deep Hollow County? Isn’t that like two hours away?” “No, I…” Virgil trailed off, trying to hide the shaking of his hands. Nate barked out a laugh, elbowing a confused-looking Sloane, “These two drove all the way from Deep Hollow! That’s rich!” “But, aren’t you like a student?” Sloane asked, confused. “Yeah, well, you see, I’m,” Virgil stammered. Suddenly his bottle fell out of his hand, crashing to the floor, spreading sticky soda everywhere. He put one hand up to his mouth and turned and ran, disappearing up the nearby stairs. “Wait! Virgil!” Valerie quickly took off after him. “What was that about?” Roman heard Sloane ask behind him. “I don’t think he’s a student here,” Nate sighed and a sloosh followed. “So?” Sloane still sounded utterly lost. Roman turned to give them a warning growl before running after Virgil. At the top of the stairs, he found Valerie across the street, calling for Virgil. Valerie spotted Roman running across the street and ran to meet him, her eyes dangerously dark. “What the hell was that?” she screamed. “I was going to ask the same thing!” Roman yelled back. “How in the world did you mess that up! He needs this! And now he’s who knows where! I swear, if anything has happened to him, I will personally end you,” she snapped. “Okay, geez!” Roman held up his hands in surrender. “Okay,” Valerie took a deep breath. “I’m going to go up the street, you go down to the docks. We find him, make sure he is safe, and meet back here. Got it?” “Got it,” Roman agreed and the two split, intent on finding their mutual friend. Roman ran down the side of the street, scanning everyone around him through the mist, trying to just spot his friend. Finally, he spies the docks up ahead with a silhouetted figure sitting at the end of one. He makes almost completely there before finally collapsing a few feet away. The figure turned around, Virgil’s dark brown eyes looking at him with contempt. Roman just gasped for air, “Sorry, I just ran all the way here. And it wasn’t even that far. I’m just really out of shape.” Virgil huffed and turned back to the river. He didn’t speak until Roman finally could breathe again and asked, “What happened back there?” “What happened?” Virgil snapped. “You ruined that chance I had! A chance at feeling normal for once in my shitty life! I don’t know if you could even realize how bad it is. My entire life ended the day my mom died. Now I have to take care of what is left of my family and every single day what little chance of a future outside of Possum Springs I have left slips away. You gave up the very thing I want so bad and I can’t help but hate you for it!” Virgil’s voice cracked finally as he lowered his head into his shaking hands. Roman pushed himself back up into a sitting position staring down at his own hands, eyes on a scar running along his left thumb. He muttered, “You don’t know anything about it.” Virgil’s head snapped back towards him, his face faintly flushed red under his foundation, “What is there to know?” Roman growled back, “You judge me, but did you ever ask why I left?” “Yeah. Your first day back.” “Oh,” Roman deflated, the little bit of righteous anger left leaving as his whole body sagged. “Right.” There was silence for a moment, as Virgil looked back out at the river. “So,” Virgil finally asked. “Why did you leave?” Roman blinked, staring at the strangely shaped boats across the river, “I… I don’t know. My head is in pieces right now. Any answer would sound nuts.” “Oh, well that’s illuminating,” Virgil deadpanned with a roll of his eyes. At this point, only his hands still shaking betrayed that he wasn’t totally emotionless. “Shut up,” Roman growled. “All this stuff going on all week? Ghosts and shit? I met this god thing for crying out loud. And look, we’re both trapped. But we’re trapped together. And I’m sorry.” Virgil looked back at him in surprise, “I don’t think you’ve ever apologized to me for anything.” “Well,” Roman shrugged. “I guess I’m full of surprises.” After another long moment, he asked, “Would we be friends if he weren’t stuck together?” Virgil sighed before admitting, “I don’t know.” After another long moment, Virgil groaned again before lowering his head back into his hands, “My life is so embarrassing. Why did I even come here? I almost didn’t. If you hadn’t said yes, I would have cancelled on Valerie.” “Hey,” Roman scooted closer so he was sitting next to his friend. “You are genuinely one of the strongest people I know. It takes a lot of bravery to try and change the entire course of one’s life.” Virgil snorted, his smile more genuine then any other he had given that night, “And I guess you aren’t as big of an idiot as I say. And you’re a genuinely good person.” Roman smiled, turning to look back over at the misty river, “I’ll take it. And tonight was a complete loss. I met a cute… someone.” “Really?” Virgil looked over at Roman with a cocked eyebrow. “What’s their name?” Roman opened his mouth to answer, but stopped, his eyes wide, “I-I don’t know. I didn’t even get their contact information. Virgil, we have to come back sometime!” He reached over, grabbing Virgil’s sleeve and shaking it with wide eyes while Virgil just laughed. “Okay, okay, we’ll come back,” he said as he pushed himself to his feet, holding out one still-shaking hand to help Roman to his feet as well. “We should make good time going home, it is such a clear night.” Roman looked back at the misty night behind them in confusion, before turning and chasing after Virgil.

Waiting for a Star to Fall Ch 6: Bust a Move

I liiiiivveee!!! Sorry for the obscene wait on this guys. I’m trying to do better and it’s my goal to put out some more updates this week.

Meena looked down at her phone screen as she sat at her kitchen counter, sipping her orange juice and aimlessly stirring the soggy remains of her cereal around in the bowl. She had spent a lazy morning in bed trying to decide how to spend her rare day off. She knew that she should probably get started on unpacking the moving boxes that still littered her house, but she just couldn’t seem to get behind the idea. Finally she decided on doing some more baby shopping with her recent paycheck, but she really didn’t want to go alone. And that’s how she found herself staring at her phone, hoping that someone would text her or call her before she had to reach out. Her phone’s blank screen glared up at her, taunting her with it’s lack of messages.

Hesitantly, she picked up the offending device and opened up the neighborhood group chat that Ash had added her to. Almost immediately she was engaged in a inner battle with her own shyness and her intense reluctance to shop alone. She debated whether or not to extend an open invitation to her neighbors for what felt like an eternity, one side of her brain insisting that she couldn’t possibly invite a stranger with her to shop for her babies, while the other side insisted that she reach out and make some friends. Eventually her desire for a shopping buddy won out and she slowly typed out a message.

Meena: Hello! I have some baby shopping to do and I was wondering if anyone wanted to tag along?

She stared at the screen despondently, thick regret filling her as soon as the message was sent. Did the exclamation mark make her sound too excited? Or was she too needy? What if they didn’t remember who she was? After all, she had only met them at the barbeque, and except for Ash and Johnny she hadn’t really run into any of them. Her panic mounted when the little bubble popped up to signify that someone was replying to her message. Why had she added that exclamation mark?! Her heart felt ready to jump out of her throat before the messages finally started to pour in.

Buster: Sorry Meena, I’m stuck at the church fixing some leaky pipes

Okay Buster wasn’t her first choice for baby shopping, so she wasn’t too bummed. Honestly she was hoping that Ash or Rosita would be free. As if the universe was determined to crush her plans, the next message popped up.

Ash: Lo siento querida I took an extra shift at the diner. Miss you! Send me pics!

Her heart definitely sunk at that. That was four neighbors down for the count. She never really expected Mike to reply in the group message anyways, and something told her that Miss Crawly didn’t have a cell phone, let alone know how to use one.

Johnny: Hey Meena! I’m stuck at the garage all day. But we should do something soon!

Johnny’s message was a relief more than any of the others. After Sunday and her subsequent talk with Ash, she wasn’t quite sure that she had built up sufficient courage to hang out with Johnny without turning into a stuttering mess. Just thinking about it made her hands clammy with nerves.

Gunter: meena! U must com 2 dance studio soon. I hav 2 take kids 2 gymnastics 2day. See u!

Meena struggled to read the confusing mix of numbers and abbreviations that was Gunter’s reply. The time that it took her to decipher his message gave Rosita just enough time to compose an essay detailing all of her duties that day as well as her children’s schedule. Dutifully, Meena read through the longest text message she had ever seen, her head swimming as she tried to reconcile the amount of activities with the hours in the day. It had to be physically impossible to be this busy, but if anyone could pull it off it was Rosita and her brood.

Her hopes of avoiding unpacking dashed, she set her phone down on the counter and carefully slid off of her stool in order to clean the few dishes she had managed to make. She was halfway through scrubbing her bowl when her phone buzzed loudly on the granite countertop. Meena frowned in confusion and quickly set the bowl aside to dry so that she could investigate.

Eddie: Hey Meena! My day is free if you still want to go shopping.

Meena stared at her phone in confusion as she processed the fact that, out of everyone, Eddie was the one who offered to take her shopping for baby stuff. She couldn’t even picture the man anywhere near a baby store, let alone helping her shop. And yet, her fingers hesitated over the screen before she could type out her refusal.

As if summoned, her mother’s voice rang in her head, admonishing her for assuming things about someone that she didn’t know. In truth, Eddie had been nothing but sweet at the bbq and his offer was equally kind if not more so. It only took one more glance at the pile of boxes waiting for her and her decision was made. So she took a deep breath and prepared to do the one thing that scared her more than anything. Put herself out there.

Meena: I’d love to have you along Eddie.

This time she decided against the question mark, considering how it had made her stomach churn with anxiety the first time. To her surprise, Eddie had no such qualms about expressing his eagerness to get out of the house, a fact that filled her with an odd sense of satisfaction.

Eddie: Awesome!! I’ll pick you up in like 20 minutes?

Reflexively, Meena wanted to protest his offer of a ride, but a well timed twinge in her back quickly changed her mind. Besides, riding the bus with her purchases was not an ideal scenario.

She sent back a confirmation before waddling as fast as she could to her room to change out of her bathrobe and into actual clothes. She slipped on a white, flower print dress made from light, flowing material that accented her bump nicely without hugging every inch of it. She paired it with a pair of tight black leggings that made her feel comfortable. She was in the middle of working her way around her belly in order to lace up her beat up pink converse when a loud honk outside her front door interrupted her struggle.

Quickly she finished the stubborn knot, grabbed her purse and shouldered her worn jean jacket as she left the house. As soon as she turned around, one arm still hanging out of her jacket, she caught sight of her unlikely companion for the day.

Eddie was lounging in the front seat of a vintage sea blue convertible that looked like it had rolled off the assembly line that morning. From what she could see, he was wearing a bulky red starter jacket fresh out of the 90s with white embellishments and a little E monogramed on the chest. His cheesy gold jewelry still adorned his neck and the combination of his curly black afro facial hair made it look like he had just rolled off of a couch in the 90s and up to her house.

Meena returned his eager grin with a shy smile as she made her way down the driveway, slipping her jacket the rest of the way on as she walked. Eddie bounced out of the car and ushered her to the passenger side, opening the door for her and doing his best to play the gentleman as he helped her into the low white leather seats. As soon as she was settled in and had situated her seatbelt so that it rested comfortably around her waist and not her pregnant belly, Eddie jogged over to the other side of the car and landed heavily into his seat, bouncing slightly when the white leather caught him. He shot her a wink and pulled two pairs of sunglasses out of nowhere, sliding his on in a move that reminded her of a cheesy action hero. The fact that this little show was obviously rehearsed only made it easier for her to let her laugh free from her usual shy restraints as she slipped on the proffered sunglasses and found a whole new side of herself.

Suddenly she was relaxing back into the leather seat, one arm casually resting on the side of the car. An foreign sense of calm and confidence washed over her as she and Eddie glanced at each, nodded seriously and looked forward as Eddie turned on the radio and put the car into gear and a funky, familiar beat burst out of the speakers to echo in the peaceful culdesac.

They sped off, simultaneously swaying to the beat, Meena trusting her unlikely companion to know the way to the best baby shopping. She let out a surprised laugh when Eddie began vigorously rapping along with the song, his mouth moving a mile a minute as he effortlessly kept up with the beat and perfectly pronounced every word. It was just the right side of dorky to be impressive and she continued to bounce to the beat as the music filled her senses and the wind whipped satisfyingly through her hair.

Slowly Meena felt her walls starting to crumble under a nostalgic beat that had been one of her father’s favorites and the adorably dorky antics of her new friend. She was filled with pleasant nostalgia as the image of her father dancing to the song while he did work around the house popped into her mind’s eye. He would always take her hand and spin her around in a flurry of improvised dance moves that had always coaxed a breathless laugh out of her. And as she watched Eddie’s lanky form wriggle in his best attempt at dancing while still paying attention to the road gripping the steering wheel, that same breathless laugh burst from her chest and happiness bloomed in her with renewed vigor. Eddie glanced over at her when her laugh echoed along with the beat. He gave her another cheesy grin and launched into the next round of rapping with increased fervor and utter joy.

Meena found herself clapping along with Eddie’s performance and suddenly she wasn’t the only one getting into the spirit of the catchy tune. A very firm volley of kicks coming from her swollen stomach gave her the last push that she needed to join in on the song, her sweet voice shocking Eddie into silence as she took over the hook that followed his next round. Normally she wouldn’t be caught dead singing in front of other people, especially in somewhere as public as a convertible, but her sudden bout of freedom was mercilessly doing away with her inhibitions. To think it had only taken a 90s rap song and a pair of sunglasses.

By the time she had finished her hook they had pulled up to a stop light and were met with scrutiny from the cars on either side of them. For the first time in her life Meena didn’t crumple under the pressure of an audience. Sure her heart was pounding in her chest and she was slightly out of breath, but instead of hiding she was breaking out her best car dancing, which mainly consisted of a lot of hand and arm movements mixed with head bobs. Eddie was actually taking cues from her so that they were moving in sync as he rapped proudly to their captive audience of teenage girls on one side and a carful of little kids on the other.

As soon as the light changed to green Eddie hit the gas and sped through the intersection, leaving the kids laughing and the teenagers scarred for life, in true dad fashion. Meena let out another loud laugh, leaning back in the convertible as the wind whipped around her and she sang loudly to the world, her cares disappearing altogether.

They finally pulled into the parking lot of one of the local baby stores and Meena felt a light fluttering in her stomach as she rubbed her stomach and undid her seatbelt. Though the car was parked, Eddie was still rapping and dancing in his seat, acting silly just to get another laugh from Meena. She shook her head in amused exasperation and struggled her way out of the low convertible. By the time she was upright and closing her car door, Eddie had resumed his rapping without the help of the song. Now that he had the use of his entire body once more he was doing his best attempt at a moonwalk on the gravel of the lot, still flailing awkwardly with his arms. It was a dad dance if Meena had ever seen one.

He stopped her in front of the cart area before she could try to wrench one from the masses, fixing her with an expectant stare. Meena laughed and blushed, the freedom of expression of the car fading. She couldn’t resist finishing the song though so she sang the last hook, accompanying it with a careful little spin that had her babies kicking in protest.

“Dude. That was awesome!” Eddie crowed as he pushed the sunglasses up to inevitably get tangled in his afro and grinned at Meena with surprisingly innocent eyes for a grown man. She smiled back, her cheeks coloring a deeper red as looked anywhere but at his eager face. However, Eddie didn’t slow down her even a second, gesticulating wildly with his arms as he wrestled with the stack of shopping carts.

“That song is off the chain! And you! Your voice was totally rad!” He exclaimed, still tryin to wrench at least one cart free from the pile, to no avail.

Meena was quick to deny his praise, hoping to avoid those same questions that she had been hearing since her singing and stage fright simultaneously came into the light, “Oh. No. It was nothing, just a bit of fun, nothing special.”

Eddie halted his seemingly impossible quest for a cart, not noticing one heavily pregnant woman that snuck in and easily withdrew one of the other carts as he stared at Meena in bewilderment. Meena braced herself for the familiar litany of questions, her entire body tensing up, but instead of asking her why she didn’t sing more, why she was embarrassed Eddie just shrugged amicably and began wrestling with the carts once more, pulling with the full force of his lanky form.

Meena gaped at him in relieved amazement for a few moments, perpetually grateful that he had picked up on how uncomfortable she was with the topic of discussion and had dropped it. It was probably the first time in her life that that had happened, including incidents with her own family. A genuine grin spread across her face at his unspoken kindness and she relaxed her stance to a state of relaxation a few steps away from what it had been in the car. As she watched the older man struggled with the stubborn stack of carts like a child she marvelled at the fact that they must have been standing there for five minutes and he still had yet to get a cart free. With an exasperated smile she went to the other stack of carts and easily pulled one free.

“Eddie?” He looked up from his task and smiled sheepishly when he saw her waiting with an identical cart to the one he had been fighting with. He quickly let his new nemesis go and leapt onto the cart she had procured, riding it like a child instead of pushing it normally.

“Alright Meena! Let’s get this party started!” He exclaimed and kicked off the ground, propelling himself forward and into the store. Meena just shook her head and followed after him, entering the store with less exuberance but no less excitement. She loved shopping for baby stuff, it made her chest warm with excitement for the day when she would actually get to use all of the stuff she bought.

She found herself following Eddie as he rode the cart through the store to a specific aisle. She was infinitely grateful for his slow pace as her back was sending little twinges of protest to her movement. Shopping for baby stuff seemed to reveal a whole new facet of Eddie’s personality as a parent as he loaded her cart with the basics, each one accompanied by his own personal explanation of why it was the best choice. His explanations were, of course, filled with nineties slang that she was starting to reconcile with his personality, but he was actually really knowledgable about all of this stuff. He showed her the most reliable brand of baby bottles that came in cute little designs.

Meena’s soft smile stayed on her face as they traversed aisle after aisle, gathering all of the things on Meena’s list before getting to the fun part: browsing what she wanted to buy but couldn’t afford. Meena was wistfully staring up at double stroller that was built especially for twins up to the first year of their life. She winced when she looked at the price tag but she couldn’t tear herself away from the display. Suddenly she was descending into a panic sinkhole, falling deeper and deeper as she frantically asked herself how she was going to support twins working as a waitress when she could barely afford a nice stroller for them. Suddenly she was suffocating in questions she didn’t know how to answer. How was she going to handle one baby, let alone two? How was she going to work? What if something was wrong with her babies? With her? Was she ready to be a mother? Could she do this on her own??

And that was how Eddie found her when he rolled up with the cart from the baby clothes area where he had been slowly losing his mind over the sheer cuteness of the tiny scale of all of the baby clothes. She was staring at an expensive stroller and frantically cradling her stomach as a few tears escaped from her eyes. Eddie sighed as he took in her defeated stance and he felt a bolt of nostalgia shoot through him, sending him back to the days when he had been suddenly shoved into parenthood and was quickly overwhelmed by the pressures of raising a kid.

He left the cart off to the side and tentatively wrapped an arm around Meena’s shoulder in what he hoped was a comforting manner. When she leaned into his touch slightly and let out a pitiful little sniffle that tore his heart apart in his chest, he shifted his grip so that he was hugging her in the middle of a department store while she covered his favorite red jacket in silent tears. Slowly she calmed down enough for Eddie to guide her to the check out where she avoided the cashier’s concerned gaze and quickly paid for everything. Without a word, Eddie picked up all of the bags and led a despondent Meena out where the car was waiting for them.

Suddenly the plush white leather wasn’t comforting of freeing, it was a poor substitute for her bed as she curled up into it and tried valiantly to stop the steady stream of tears that had started up again. The rational part of her brain was berating her for ruining a perfectly good outing with her fears, but she quickly shoved it aside so that she could try to sort through the mess of anxiety that was consuming her. She didn’t even register Eddie starting the car or the wind in her hair as her surroundings faded out until she was left in muted isolation.

She was jolted out of her daze when she felt a soft touch on her shoulder, that small point of contact yanking her back to reality where she was sitting in Eddie’s convertible, in front of his house, crying. She looked up to find her door open and Eddie waiting patiently, watching her with an encouraging smile and an outstretched hand to help her out of the car. Sheer, horrifying embarrassment at her sudden breakdown filled her and she opened her mouth to say something, anything, some kind of apology for the way that a simple stroller had sent her into a breakdown, but Eddie beat her to the punch.

“Do you uh… wanna come in for some tea?” Meena blinked up at him for an eternity, her frazzled mind desperately trying to process that he had just invited her in for tea, was voluntarily asking to spend more time with her, even though she had just broken down in a department store and had to be ushered out in tears. After a few more minutes of awkward silence she shut her gaping mouth and nodded out a tentative acceptance to his invitation.

Eddie’s smile widened a little bit and Meena found herself mesmerized by the way that his expressive gaze seemed more understanding than sympathetic, like he actually knew what she was going through. It was part of the reason that she let him help her out of the car and into the large house that was waiting for them.

She blinked and suddenly found herself ensconced in a plush couch while a tea kettle whistled and Eddie bustled around the kitchen, his warm voice rambling to fill up the silence as he worked, “I hope you like Lapsang souchong, it’s kinda the only tea I know how to make. I had to learn for when my Nana comes to visit cause it’s the only thing that stubborn old battle axe will drink.”

He returned to the living room with two cups of tea on a tray with a small bowl of sugar. Meena carefully took the mug he offered her and added a healthy addition of sugar so that the smoky flavor transformed into a sweeter note. She took a couple of sips, staring down into her mug as she gathered the courage to speak.

“L-Listen Eddie I’m s-s-sorry about… ev-everything.” She finally stuttered out, but Eddie was settled back into the couch, sipping from his psychadelic mug and looking at her with an unreadable look that silenced her before she could go any further. As he looked her over, her eyes red from crying and her cheeks covered in the remnants of her tear tracks, a wistful look came over his face and his childish light faded from his brown eyes and was replaced by a serious, sad look.

“Louis isn’t my biological son.” He blurted out and Meena’s embarrassment and sadness were overtaken by confusion as the conversation took a sharp turn away from her apology and into Eddie’s personal territory. She wanted to protest that he didn’t have to feel obligated to tell her anything, but something about the look on his face told her that Eddie needed to share this with her, that it was important for both of them.

“Thirteen years ago I was 25 and still partying my life away while everyone else my age was growing up. I was stuck in a rut that I didn’t know how to get out of, and I didn’t want to. I had my parent’s money to leech off of and their pool house to live in. It was shitty. And then one morning I woke up from another party to the sound of a baby crying. I thought I was hallucinating from some drugs that I probably took ,but the crying kept going until I waded through the mess that was my home to the front door. I opened it up and there he was, laying on my pool deck in a green onesie sobbing his head off. I stared at him forever until I finally got up the courage to go over and poke him like a little boy poking a bug. I half-expected him to disappear in front of me, but he just cried louder.” Eddie let out a little laugh at himself and Meena gripped her mug close to her chest, the heat of the liquid inside having nothing to do with the warmth that was spreading through her chest as she watched Eddie tell his story.

“So I picked the little guy up and I just… I remember thinking that he was the most beautiful thing in the whole world. Like I wasn’t big on babies but this little guy had the softest little tuft of orange hair on his head and the biggest, saddest little green eyes. I was hooked on him. He stopped crying and we kinda just sat on a pool chair, staring at each other for like forever. By the time I brought him up to my parents, he was already mine.” Now he turned to her, he smile sad and his gaze radiating empathy.

“I was just a kid. I’m still kind of a kid fumbling my way through this, but I love Louis and I refused to give him up. Sure things were scary, my parents didn’t think I could handle it and my Nana never stopped hounding me to get rid of him like he was the trash I had forgotten to take out the night before. I wasn’t trained to be a parent, shit I was still living in my parents’ pool house when I started raising Louis. So many nights I would sit there and wonder if he was better off without me, if I was better off without all the stress that came with a baby, but then he’d look up at me again with those sad green eyes and he got me through it. I love that kid with all I got and it got me through, still gets me through, the hard stuff.” He reached out and rested a hand on Meena’s shoulder, smiling down at her as she looked up at him with a mix of shock and gratitude.

“You’ll get through this Meena. I know it’s freakin’ scary and you don’t have all the answers right now, but you’re not alone, not as long as you got those two little gifts.” He gestured to her stomach and Meena reflexively rested her hand on it, the warmth in her chest spreading to her stomach where she could swear she felt two little heart beats joining hers. She felt her eyes fill with tears again, but this time she couldn’t hold back the questions and one escaped from her mouth against her will.

“B-But I’m just a waitress. How can I support t-two kids on a waitress’s salary? I have s-savings but… what about the future?” Eddie screwed up his mouth in concentration and looked at her curiously, trying to find the right words to say.

“Well what did you want to do before you got pregnant?” He answered her question for another question and for a moment Meena was back in her mother’s kitchen, whipping up her grandfather’s birthday cake and meticulously decorating it with icing. She had spent the entire day on that cake, it had been an utter masterpiece, and though her grandfather had been fussing when he dug into it, he had expressed his admiration in his own special way.

“I…well I love to b-bake.” She offered up half-heartedly and after a few minutes of deliberation, Eddie’s eyes lit up like a spotlight and he began babbling so quickly that Meena couldn’t quite understand him as he scrambled for his laptop where it was buried under an assorted pile of comic books and magazines. He whipped it open and suddenly Meena was able to make out what he was rambling about.

“Me? Open a bakery?” She gaped at him in surprise and her insecurities scrambled to shut it down before hope of something more could blossom in her chest, “I-I couldn’t! I wouldn’t know the first thing about it and I don’t have the money to start something like this and… I can’t.” She protested vehemently and though Eddie looked a little discouraged at her lack of faith in herself, he was still stubborn in his optimism.

“Meena, I ate some of your cheesecake at the barbeque. If everything you make is that good you’ll be swimming in customers.” When her nerves weren’t visibly erased, he softened his determined look and gave her a pleading look.

“Just think about it okay? It’s not just for you.” A heavy silence settled between them as Meena battled internally over what to do, whether or not to let herself have hope that she could succeed with something like this, whether or not to try. She glanced nervously at his pleading, eager look and found that he looked almost like a little kid giving someone the puppy dog look, even though he was older than her. In the end she just rested her hand on her stomach and swallowed the bitter taste of nerves and took a half-step forward into her future.

“Okay. I’ll think about it.” She pulled the lanky man forward and enveloped him in a tight, slightly awkward hug that he returned with surprised sort of happiness.

“Thank you Eddie. For everything.” And yet again she found herself hit by the realization that she was not alone, that she was surrounded by friends, even in the most unlikely of forms.

had an anon request more sick Jughead (because we love to make him suffer) and @define-lying specified with a prompt. So here I am, back at it with the sick Jughead.

“I’ll figure it out, Dad. I always do.”

Jughead sighed, pulling his small blanket tighter around his body as the memories of the drive-in spun around his mind like a broken record. Figuring it out meant wandering the streets late at night—desperate for an answer, or a house for that matter, to manifest in front of him. The nights were growing longer and colder in Riverdale, and while searching for a new place to live, Jughead put all of his mental focus on plotting his novel in order to distract himself from the biting cold seeping into his bones.

He wound up standing in front of he and Archie’s childhood tree house when he was contemplating on whether or not to include the drama between Archie and Ms. Grundy. It was less than ideal, but it was better than nothing, so he braved the rickety ladder and made his way up. For a brief moment, he wasn’t sure that the tree house would hold after the whole thing shook when he dropped his massive backpack down onto the wooden floor, but he froze and held his breath, and after a few moments, the house stilled.

After unpacking some of his belongings, Jughead tucked himself into a corner- knees drawn to his chest and beanie pulled down as far as it would go. The bitter wind sneaked in through the cracks, and it didn’t take long until Jughead was shivering. He already had quite a bit of layers on and didn’t want to risk getting the clothes he would need to wear to school dirty, so he tried to make do with what he had on combined with his small blanket.

However, a sudden drop of rain splashing against his exposed hand a few moments later had Jughead thinking otherwise. He hissed out a string of curses while shifting around until the small blanket was covering his head. ‘Go to Archie’s!’ his mind screamed, but how could he? With everything that Archie was going through right now, the last thing he would need was Jughead’s burdens.

‘Betty’s?’ No. Her family has enough on their plate with Polly. Plus, Betty would likely tell Archie right away.

‘Hell, Veronica’s even?’ And again, he talked himself out of it. Things seemed tense between Veronica and her mom at the moment, and again, he knew that Veronica would tell Betty who would tell Archie—everything always cycled back to Archie, and he just could not do that, not when he and Archie were doing so well mending their friendship.

The rain outside picked up, and Jughead groaned. Even with the blanket over his head, it felt as if each cold drop leaking in was seeping into his bones. His shivering picked up in intensity, and his mind screamed ‘stay awake!’ right before he drifted off into a fitful sleep.

“You seem tired, Juggie.”

Jughead shut his locker. He moved sluggishly until he was facing Betty’s wide, concerned eyes. “I’m good,” he said, thankful that his voice was holding out despite his throat feeling as if he had spent the night gargling glass.

“Is this about the drive-in?” Betty pressed, tilting her head in question.

Nodding seemed like his best source of reply for he didn’t trust whatever smartass comment was bound to come out of his mouth. He waved the sympathetic look Betty shot him away as the two started to walk towards their third class.

“I can help you find a new job,” Betty suggested as the pair made their way to their seats.

“I said I’m good, Bets.” Jughead didn’t intend for that to come out as harshly as it did, but he was just so damn tired. Sleep was just not on his side last night with the rain, and when he woke up, everything, including himself, was cold and damp. His sore throat accompanied with a pounding head was just the icing on the cake of his now significantly shittier life.

“Okay. Well I’m here for you, Juggie.”

The soft, reassurance in Betty’s voice had his lips pulling up into a small smile, which Betty returned before turning her attention towards the teacher. Jughead’s eyes briefly drifted towards Archie’s empty seat; he shouldn’t be surprised of Archie’s absence considering everything that had gone down with Grundy. Archie was probably suffering, but Jughead couldn’t help feeling slightly selfish in wishing that his friend at school. He found that he could forget his problems when Archie was there, but without that stupid red hair to distract him, his mind remained plagued by his severe situation.

“Archie said he will be back tomorrow,” Betty announced during lunch.

“Is he still sulking?” Veronica asked, earning a light punch on the arm from Betty.

“He’s upset!”

Jughead tuned the two girls out as he forced down his lunch. He hadn’t had an appetite since last night, but he knew that this lunch would probably be the only food he would get all day. He was already feeling weak enough as it was, so he choked down his food despite his stomach’s protesting.

“Earth to Jughead.”

Jughead’s eyes shifted until they met Veronica’s. “What?” He asked, mouth full of food.

“You keep zoning out,” Betty supplied, but Jughead waved away her slight concern.

“Sorry. I’ve got a lot on my mind.” He watched as the two frowned at him, and he mentally toned down the bitterness seeping out from getting endlessly fucked over by what felt like the entire town, with the exception of his friends and the managers at Pops—they were too kind to him.

“I can introduce you to Netflix.”

Play it cool, Jones, Jughead told himself. He breathed out a low laugh, ignoring the pain in his throat. “Is this our future?” He asked lightly, eyes zeroing in on Veronica. “Are we doomed to a future that is humanless and engulfed in technology?” This earned laughter from the two girls, and he leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest. Crisis averted for now.

Jughead’s second night in the tree house was significantly worse than the first. His breaths were coming out in pained, shaky gasps as strong shivers wracked his body. His head felt as if a marching band was parading around, and his nose was alternating from feeling like a waterfall to feeling as if it were stuffed with cotton. He checked his money to see if he had enough to stop for medicine before school tomorrow, breathing out a small praise when his fingers brushed against a twenty.

He was about to attempt to sleep when his phone chimed off. He blindly patted around, not wanting to fully emerge from his blanket shield, until his hand hit the small device. He curled his trembling fingers around it, sliding his hand back under the blanket. He found himself surprised that he even got reception this far out when he stared at Archie’s name flashing across his screen.

[11:04 pm] From Archie: u ok?

Fuck. He thought he had done well enough to convince Betty that he was fine, but apparently his acting wasn’t enough.

[11:06 pm] To Archie: Shouldn’t I be asking you that?

[11:06 pm] From Archie: B said u seemed off 2day

Sighing, Jughead contemplated not replying. He could blame it on having fallen asleep; he knew Archie would understand. But, he couldn’t just leave his friend hanging.

[11:08 pm] To Archie: I’m fine. Just tired. How are you?

He gnawed lightly at his lower lip as he stared hard at his phone, waiting anxiously for a reply. A few minutes passed, and his anxiety was starting to creep up his throat. But finally, after what felt like years, his phone chimed off again.

[11:13 pm] From Archie: idk im upset but also kinda relieved? i miss her jug but i get that this had to happen i guess. sorry about the drive in btw. i know how much that place meant to u

Jughead reread the words lit up on his phone. He brushed his free hand over his eyes, pegging the tears forming at the corners of his eyes on his throbbing head. He briefly glanced at his charge, noting he had a little over half percent left. He needed to wrap this up for now.

[11:17 pm] To Archie: I’m sorry, Arch. I know you cared about her. I know it’s hard, but we are here for you. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, okay?

[11:17 pm] From Archie: thanks jug. night

Jughead pressed his phone close to his chest as he squeezed his eyes shut, praying for sleep to take over as soon as possible.

Jughead decided to skip his first class in favor of showering in the men’s locker room showers. The medicine he had bought at the store that morning was working a little, but he still felt cold all over and decided that skipping a class for a hot shower was better than sitting and shivering in a class for an hour.

The hot water felt like heaven against his chilled skin. It was the first time in two days where he felt warm, and he didn’t want to leave. He wondered if it would be socially acceptable to reside in a somewhat public shower for the rest of his miserable days, but his phone alarm going off a few moments later pulled him back into reality.

The alarm was set to allow him time to change and dry his hair before sneaking out a few seconds before class would let out. He planned to use the ‘overslept’ excuse when questioned, and he was confident it would work considering all he told people yesterday was that he was tired. It wasn’t a lie—he was tired, which was to be expected when sleeping in a fucking tree house when the nights felt like they belonged in the middle of winter despite being early fall.

Once changed and hair dried as much as he had time for, he cleaned up until there was no trace that he had showered in there then headed out towards his locker. As soon as he reached his locker, the school bell chimed, dismissing first class. It took only a matter of seconds until someone was leaning against the lockers beside his. He shut his locker and gave Archie a once over, noting how pale and exhausted the boy looked.

“You look like shit,” Jughead exclaimed, unable to keep the concern bleeding through his voice.

Archie dropped his gaze to the floor. “Haven’t been able to sleep well.”

Yeah, Jughead thought to himself, you and me both. He dropped his hand on Archie’s shoulder, prompting the other to look up. “I told you, Arch. We are here for you.”

“Thanks, Jug,” Archie replied softly. The two started towards their second class in a comfortable silence until Archie suddenly stopped walking. “Where were you first period?”

“Overslept,” Jughead answered coolly. He kept walking, and sure enough, he heard Archie start after him again a few seconds later. The pair walked into their second class and were greeted by Veronica and Betty waving them towards the back of the room with big grins. This, Jughead thought to himself, this was what he needed to forget.

“We should all get together this weekend,” Veronica suggested at lunch. “We sure as hell could use it.”

“We should!” Betty agreed, and the two started plotting out the plans with Archie appearing only to be half-listening as he fiddled with his music on his laptop.

Jughead watched the three, and for a brief moment, he was able to forget everything. For a small, sliver of time, he was able to fully immerse himself into this translucent concept that everything was perfectly fine. But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. A particularly cold breeze ripped Jughead away from the pretend, perfect world he had conjured up in his mind. He shivered, wrapping his arms around himself, and he found himself desperately yearning for the warmth from the shower he took only a couple of hours ago.

“You okay, Jug?”

Jughead shot Archie a half smile, one that quickly dropped down into a frown when Archie continued to stare at him with furrowed brows. “I’m fine, Arch. Just a little cold.”

“You aren’t eating.”

Jughead glanced down at his full plate of food. Well, fuck. He grabbed a fry, stuffing it into his mouth despite having literally no appetite whatsoever. The fries had gone cold, but Jughead stuffed a few more in his mouth for good measure. He could feel Archie’s gaze on him, but thankfully, Archie did not press further, seemingly satisfied now that Jughead was eating.

“So, my place on Friday?” Veronica asked.

It was only Tuesday, so Jughead agreed. He had time to come up with an excuse as to why he wouldn’t be able to make it to Veronica’s. It’s not that he didn’t want to go, but he didn’t want to risk anyone realizing that his clothes seemed dirty or accidentally revealing anything that could give off the fact that he’s been living in a tree house. He couldn’t avoid school, but he could avoid afterschool activities. Besides, he planned to spend the weekend trying to figure out a better living arrangement. He needed a better living arrangement; he wasn’t sure how long he could last in the tree house.

Jughead wanted to die. It was his third night in the tree house, and he wanted to die. He’d been shivering for hours, but the heat rolling off his face told him that it was more than the cold wind that had him shaking like a leaf. On top of that, his chest hurt like hell. Each breath felt like his lungs were cracking, and he developed a cough that seemed to be getting worse with each passing minute. His body was wracked with coughing fits that had him gasping for breath and seeing black.

He knew that he should be concerned. His mind screamed ‘Pneumonia!’ But, he just felt so tired. He used up what little energy he had at school, doing his best to assure everyone who gave him skeptical looks that he was perfectly fine. He personally felt that he deserved a damn Oscar for the amount of work he put in today to make sure that how he actually felt did not surface.

‘Call Archie!’ And, he did toy with the idea, but Archie just seemed so tired today. It was blaringly obvious that Archie was struggling to deal with the whole Grundy debacle, and Jughead wanted Archie to have time to recuperate from that.

Really, Jughead just wanted to sleep. He squeezed his eyes shut, mentally plotting out the next part of his novel while hoping that exhaustion would eventually win over his shivering and coughing. He was just in the middle of contemplating on whether or not it was important to include Veronica and Betty becoming cheerleaders when he drifted off to sleep.

He woke himself up coughing what felt like only minutes later, but the sunlight pouring into the tree house said otherwise. “Fuck,” he rasped out, voice barely audible. He fumbled around until he found his phone, and his eyes went wide when he saw that he had three missed calls from Archie, two missed calls from Betty, a missed call from Veronica, seven new texts from Archie, four new texts from Betty, and a surprising twelve new texts from Veronica. What was worse, though, was the fact that it was fifteen minutes until lunch hour.

He hopped up, regretting it instantly as the room began to tilt. He leaned hard against the wall, coughing harshly into his fist as he waited for the dizziness to subside. He did not have time for this; he needed to get to school as soon as humanly possible. Once he was sure he could make it without toppling over, he quickly changed into a pair of jeans and tossed a hoodie over the shirt he had slept in. He adjusted his beanie, grabbed his bag, and started down the ladder, having to stop every other step to cough.

The bright, shining sun accompanied with relatively warm temperatures should have been a plus, but Jughead took it as the world plotting against him. Why should the day be so nice when he felt so miserable? He hasn’t stopped shivering despite the sun beating against his back, and the coughing accompanied with him running to school was all but killing his lungs. But, he had to make it at least to lunch—it would look incredibly suspicious if he missed lunch.

When the school finally came into view, he felt that he could almost cry of relief. He skipped going in through the front entrance, opting, instead, to go around back to the court yard where everyone was having lunch. His eyes fell onto the table where Archie, Betty, and Veronica were seated, and he took a second to catch his breath and straighten out his clothes some before he started towards his friends.

“Juggie!” Betty shouted as he approached the table, and soon enough, all eyes were on him. He turned to cough into the crook of his arm before he walked up to the table.

He cleared his throat and shot what he hoped was a decent smile. “Sorry, guys, my alarm didn’t—”

“We’ve been so worried!” Betty exclaimed, cutting Jughead off. He wanted to reply; he wanted to reassure everyone that there was nothing to worry about, but he suddenly found it incredibly hard to form words. Luckily, Veronica took charge.

“Apparently you are never late for school, so these two thought you died in a ditch or something,” Veronica said, rolling her eyes.

Words, dammit. Why couldn’t he get his mouth to form words? And why was it so hot suddenly? He felt as if his hoodie was suffocating him, like it was snake wrapped around his body, squeezing the breath right out of his lungs. Breathing—he couldn’t breathe. His lungs were on fire. His face was on fire. He was on fire. But, when he looked down at his hands to avoid the worried stares coming from his friends, he saw that they were shaking.

“Jug?”

No. No, he couldn’t burden them. He would just leave. He took a step back just as Archie stood, and what a mistake that proved to be. Everything started to tilt backwards, and Jughead felt himself moving with it just as his vision started to blur. He faintly heard someone shout his name, then everything went black.

Repeated sounds should be illegal. At least, that’s what Jughead thought when he was pulled from his blissful sleep by a persistent beeping sound. He blinked his eyes open, and mentally cursed. Bright lights should also be illegal. Why did he have to wake up? Things were much nicer when he was asleep.

He continued blinking until he was able to hold his eyes open against the light. It didn’t take long to come to the conclusion that he was in a hospital—it was the events leading up to this that were but a jumbled blur within his poorly functioning mind. He glanced to the left to see Archie sitting on a chair beside his bed and fiddling with his phone.

“A-Arch?” Wow, okay, talking hurt more than he expected. Luckily, Archie heard him despite his weak voice and the oxygen mask covering his mouth.

“Jug!” Archie shoved his phone into his pocket and leaned forward. “Hey, you’re in the hospital, but you’re going to be okay.”

Jughead nodded, suddenly feeling very tired once more. Archie seemed to catch on because he whispered “rest,” and that was all Jughead needed, drifting off once more.

Waking up the second time was significantly easier than the first, but Jughead still felt like the actual definition of shit. At least, he found he was able to focus more when he pried his eyes open. He wasn’t sure what time it was or how long he’s been sleeping, but Archie was still there, seemingly asleep in the chair to his left.

Now that his mind was clear, he had time to panic. He didn’t have insurance to cover this hospital bill, he was still homeless, and now everyone was going to know. He wasn’t sure how things escalated so quickly, but he faintly thought that death seemed to be a better option than this.

“Son?”

Jughead furrowed his brows, and his eyes darted to the right, zeroing in on Fred Andrews sitting in a chair. “H-hey,” he whispered, noting that at least talking hurt slightly less and that he no longer had an oxygen mask covering his mouth.

“We should talk.”

Jughead heard rustling coming from the left, and he knew that Archie was waking up. Soon, he would be cornered by the Andrews duo with nowhere to run, but maybe this was for the best. Maybe, he could just tell them what was going on and hope for the best.

He nodded towards the glass of water on his bedside table, and with Fred’s help, he was able to get enough water to soothe his wrecked throat. At his other side, Archie helped him shift into a comfortable sitting position.

“Where’s your father, son?”

Jughead looked down at his hands. “He’s not,” he paused, coughing harshly into his shoulder, “he’s not in a great place right now.”

“What does that mean, Jug?”

Archie sounded almost frantic, and Jughead mentally cursed. This was the last thing he wanted. “It just means—” His words cut off as a coughing fit wracked his small frame. He felt two pairs of hands on him, comforting him, but he couldn’t stop. He couldn’t breathe. Darkness started to creep at the edges of his vision, and he heard someone yell for a nurse before he fell limp.

Jughead’s first thought when he opened his eyes for the third time was that this was getting old. He wanted out.

“Jug?”

Archie sounded so tired and so worried, and it hurt Jughead more than he cared to admit. He shifted his eyes around, but Archie’s dad was nowhere in sight.

“Your dad’s a Southside Serpent?”

Well, it didn’t take them long to figure that out. Honestly, he wasn’t sure how they didn’t find out sooner. His dad wasn’t in hiding, and Jughead wasn’t necessarily secretive about his dad. He just never talked about him, or his whole family for that matter, because no one asked. Everyone was facing their own demons in Riverdale, and with Jason’s murder, the town’s been pretty preoccupied.

Not trusting his voice, Jughead nodded in response.

“He stopped by while you were sleeping. He and my dad talked for a while. He told my dad that he didn’t know where you are living now that the drive-in is gone?”

Sighing, Jughead struggled into a sitting position, and Archie quickly propped pillows up behind his back. He wasn’t sure where this conversation was going to go, but he needed to try to stay awake.

“Where are you living, Jughead?”

“Tree house,” Jughead whispered in response. No point in lying now—Archie was already upset as it was.

“Shit, Jughead! Why didn’t you say anything? No wonder you’re sick! You should have told me the second you started living at the drive-in!”

And, Jughead thought to himself, why didn’t he? He had started living in the drive-in right before summer. He had almost two months before his falling out with Archie to say something, so why didn’t he?

“It’s not your problem,” he finally replied, voice weak.

Archie stared at Jughead hard with furrowed brows for a long time. Jughead briefly thought that he broke his best friend, but finally, Archie sighed.

“You’re my best friend, Jug. I know we hit a rough patch, but I never stopped seeing you as my best friend. Your problems are mine—that’s just how things are.”

Do not fucking cry, Jughead told himself as he felt his eyes welling with tears. You will not, he mentally continued, shed a single tear. It’s not your fucking style. He brushed the back of his hand against his eyes and sniffed lightly. “Everyone,” he started, pausing to cough into his fist. “Everyone’s been so upset with Jason, and then the Grundy stuff—”

“Grundy doesn’t matter!”

Jughead raised his brows and titled his head slightly.

“Okay, she did—she does. But you matter more, Jug!”

There was so much sincerity dripping from Archie’s flustered tone that Jughead couldn’t help but breathe out a small laugh. This was not how he expected this conversation to go at all, but he found that he couldn’t complain. Now, all he wanted was to do was removed that worried expression from Archie’s face, preferably forever.

“You’ve got pneumonia,” Archie started again after a few minutes, pulling Jughead from his thoughts. “But, you’re getting discharged tomorrow now that they’ve got your fever down. You are going to stay with us.”

“Archie—”

“Don’t,” Archie snapped, cutting Jughead off. Jughead’s eyes went wide, and Archie’s expression softened. “My dad and I talked about it. You are going to live with us from now on, and that’s that, so don’t try to talk your way out of this, Jughead.”

Speechless, Jughead could do nothing but nod dumbly. He allowed Archie to shift him around until he was reclined comfortably.

“Just rest for right now, Jug.”

And rest he did.

“I’m starting to think they discharged him too soon,” Fred said as he and Archie helped Jughead up the stairs of their house.

Jughead was wheezing, unable to get a solid breath in. Stairs, he thought with his oxygen-deprived mind, are the devil. He just wanted to be able to breathe—that’s it. He felt that he wasn’t asking for too much.

“He’ll be fine once we get him to bed,” Archie answered with a grunt as they reached the top of the stairs.

The three made their way into Archie’s bedroom, and Jughead stopped. The house was big enough; he knew that they had guest bedrooms, so why the hell were they going into Archie’s room.

“For right now,” Archie said as if he read Jughead’s thoughts. “I know you will be more comfortable in here.”

Jughead wanted to protest. These two were already doing too much for him. Everyone, for that matter, was already doing too much for him. Betty and Veronica convinced their moms to help front the hospital bill while he was too doped up on medicine to fight it. Archie had gone to the tree house to retrieve his stuff, and Fred had paid for his medicine. The least he could do was not take Archie’s bed for the next week, so he fought against Archie and Fred tugging at his arms.

“Jug, please. It’s fine.”

Damn Archie and his damn puppy-dog expression. Jughead finally caved and allowed the two to lead him to Archie’s bed.

“I’m going to go get his medicine,” Fred announced while Archie was helping Jughead into bed.

Archie nodded before turning his attention to fluffing up his pillows for Jughead.

“Archie,” Jughead breathed out in between coughs. “It’s fine—they’re fine. I just want to sleep.”

“I just want to make sure,” Archie said, patting his pillows until he was satisfied. “Besides, you can’t sleep until you take your medicine.”

Jughead groaned, draping one arm over his eyes. Now that he didn’t have an IV constantly pumping his body with drugs, he felt like the actual definition of death. Despite that, he still felt better lying in Archie’s bed then he’s felt for a long time. The softness and familiarity was enough to lull him to sleep, and he found himself struggling to keep his eyes open.

Fred walked in moments later and handed Archie the medicine and a bottle of water, and Jughead managed to rasp out a weak “thank you” before Fred left the two alone once more.

Archie handed Jughead a pill then held the bottle to Jughead’s lips, claiming that Jughead’s hands were shaking too hard.

Once Jughead was blissfully drugged up, he fell back against the pillows as sleep threatened to take over. “Arch,” he whispered just as Archie walked out of the room.

“One sec!”

Jughead’s eyes slipped closed, but he pried them open moments later when he felt something cool and damp being draped across his forehead. He smiled tiredly at Archie while patting the empty side of the bed. “Stay, please?”

Archie climbed onto his bed, lying on his side and propping himself up on one elbow to face Jughead. “I’m not going anywhere, Jug.”

Jughead’s smile grew, and before he knew it, he drifted off to sleep.

For the love of God what happens at the end of trailer trash!???!?? If you won't come bank to it will you just tell me where you saw the characters going next like a breif summary of what would happen next. PLEASE I need to know

okay, so turns out i actually had 2,800 words before i abandoned this LMFAOO. i do not remember writing this at all, but just for you, here’s what it was going to be.

harry thinks he and louis have a sort of unspoken agreement about their relationship. he’s not sure if louis is aware of this though - because it’s, well, unspoken and all.

ever since louis had that little breakdown (louis squeezing his eyes shut so harry couldn’t see him crying even though it was obvious he had been), harry’s been walking on eggshells around him. it’s a little nerve-wracking because he thinks louis might need him to be a better friend, but he isn’t sure how to be.

harry’s sitting in class, twiddling his thumbs and staring at the clock on the wall, waiting for the day to end. he used to like going to private school before he knew louis - he’s friends with everybody here, has to be since he’s known them all since he was six.

it’s so bad that every year when they start a new class, everybody knows where to sit without being told, because the teachers always go by last names. so harry is always on the opposite side of the room from nick.

not that it matters, because they always text during class. harry met nick because nick dated his sister gemma before he realized he was gay. gemma graduated a few years before and still chatted with nick on facebook when she wasn’t working.

nick’s wearing a light wash denim jacket over his uniform sweater and has a few pins in it, one pink peace sign given to him by gemma.

he hears something buzzing.

harry’s arm shoots down his pocket as he tries to silence his vibrating phone, but it’s too late. he glances down at it with a furrowed brow.

louis picking u up 2day?

“harry,” mr. loomis sighs, walking over to him and holding out his hand. harry groans. “no- please-“

“you can pick this back up after detention today.” mr. loomis looks at the screen of harry’s phone and harry grins, already knowing what’s coming. “nicholas?"

mr. loomis asks, "i take it you’ll be joining harry in detention? wonderful choice. phone, please."

nick moans aloud, slumping over in his desk, and causing several of their classmates to giggle. harry sticks his tongue out at nick and nick waits til their teacher turns around to put their phones in his desk before he flips harry off. harry hears perrie laughing loudly from two rows in front of him.

"shit,” he mutters. he was supposed to be meeting louis after school and now he had no way to tell louis he was going to be late.

he rips out a piece of notebook paper and scrawls a note to perrie messily on it, asking her to tell zayn to tell louis what’s happened. he passes it to the kid next to him (who’s had bad acne since they were literally nine) with the name pez written on it and underlined so nobody else reads it.

by the time it gets to perrie, harry can tell someone’s drawn a dick or two on it and there’s also a piece of chewed gum stuck inside. although harry would have once found this hilarious, he know finds it aggravating.

perrie gives harry a thumbs up and then folds the note into a paper airplane and chucks it at the girl next to her (probably the gum instigator). she shouts like she’s been shot and mr. loomis whips around and, lo and behold, gives her detention.

“fuck,” she mouths to harry, wincing, “i’m sorry.”

harry buries his head in his jacket as soon as they sit down in the cafeteria. because the school is so tiny, only needing to encompass about eighty students, there’s no place for detention other than the same place they eat in.

well, technically, they could use the basement, which is what the school used to used before formaldehyde was discovered. harry prefered the cafeteria anyway - there were no melting, waxy pictures of the virgin mary glaring at him on the walls there.

harry lifts his head to see nick sitting across from him, rolling his eyes at harry. “don’t give me that look,” nick says, “this is for your own good, anyway."

"what is that supposed to mean?” harry says sharply.

nick shrugs. “i knew your phone was on vibrate."

perrie comes up and drops two heavy books loudly on the table and sits next to harry just as harry leans over and punches nick hard in the shoulder. "what the fuck?” he asks.

nick glares. “i’m just saying, maybe you shouldn’t be hanging out with him so much."

harry gapes. "are you-” he pauses, stunned, “sabotaging me?"

perrie watches on cheerfully, biting into an apple. "you guys, the cafeteria is still open. there’s no line."

nick ignores her, leaning over the table and lowering his voice. "you’ve got no fucking respect for yourself! he’s never going to-"

"who are we talking about?” perrie asks, frowning.

“nobody!” harry practically shouts.

“louis,” nick says softly.

“oh, i didn’t know you knew him,” perrie says to nick, smiling innocently.

“he doesn’t!” harry cries. “and i don’t want yor fucking advice!"

nick folds his arms across his chest. "you know i’m not sabotaging you. god, don’t be such a drama queen. i’m trying to keep you from making a mistake-"

"is there anything i can do?” perrie asks, looking very uncomfortable. she’s already started to stand and leave the table before either of them answer.

“look,” harry says, rubbing his forehead, “you don’t know him. there’s - things he does -”

nick interrupts him. “are you sure that’s not just you looking for something that’s not there?"

harry groans and runs one hand through his hair. "he lets me rub his feet."

nick’s eyebrows cinch. he pulls back, laughs, and says, "what?"

"yeah. actually yesterday he asked me to."

nick stares. "the guy you showed me pictures of on your phone with the rat tail and- fucking leather jacket- asked you to rub his feet?"

harry flushes. "yeah."

nick blows air out of his mouth noisily. "wow. maybe you do have a shot."

"so what?” gemma asks. she sounds like she’s not really paying attention.

“are you filing your nails or something?” harry asks, holding his phone to his ear while he’s in the bathroom. there’s only five minutes more of detention, but he managed to get his phone back early by saying his sister was going into labor. which- wasn’t really true.

“he hasn’t even made a move. what are you doing with him today?” she asks slyly, “going to see his ant farm?"

harry groans in frustration. "would you let a girl rub your feet?"

"i don’t know, sure,” gemma shrugs, “why not?"

"it’s, like, in pulp fiction,” harry whines, “you know, like when they say a foot massage is, like, a sex act?"

"well, they said it’s like cunillingus, harry,” gemma snorts. “you planning on giving louis cunillingus?"

"don’t say ‘cunillingus’,” harry moans. “and i’m trying to come to you for your insight."

"i have girl insight, haz.” gemma must be blow-drying her hair because there’s some sort of noise coming from her end. “if louis’ dick shrivels up and falls off his body, let me know. until then, i have a shoot to go to."

harry rolls his eyes. gemma is living out in california temporarily trying to find roles in movies and modelling on the side to make money.

"fine. you suck. goodbye.” harry hangs up.

“where have you been?” louis asks when harry jerks open the door to the truck. he’s sitting in there with one hand resting on the bottom of the steering wheel, the other hand laying on the inside of his own thigh. harry stares.

“detention.” he easily gets up into the truck without having to step up on the foot guard first, which louis always has to. he throws his sports bag between louis and himself.

“liar,” louis laughs. “you were probably tutoring some blind six year old girl who’s first language was spanish."

harry rolls his eyes. "technically it’s your fault i got detention in the first place."

"what?” louis smiles, shaking his head. he twists the key and starts the truck up.

“nick texted me asking if you were picking me up and my phone went off in class."

louis turns back to harry in disbelief. "so it’s my fault you can’t remember to shut your phone off?"

"yeah,” harry sighs dramatically, “selective memory. your brain can only hold so many pieces of information at once, and you’ve been teaching me way too much about viruses and infections, so something had to go."

"so i’m guessing you didn’t remember that my mom’s having her friends over tonight to sell those god awful purses?” louis is back to looking straight out at the road, and harry feels neglected. he wonders if it would be too much to ask louis to give him a foot rub right now.

“uh, yeah,” harry says slowly, “that does sound familiar…."

"well, where are we going, then?” louis asks. “zayn’s?"

harry thinks. louis’ never seen his home before. he’s thought a lot about it - mostly because he doesn’t want louis to see it and think harry is bragging.

because, truthfully, it’s very big. his mom’s been through two profitable divorces, the kind of settlements that come with houses and cars and child support.

but louis has been complaining about his back a lot and it might be nice for him to sleep on a nice mattress, something nicer than the paper thin mattress in his trailer.

"we can go to mine?” harry asks hopefully.

louis squints. “why? is your mom going to be out?"

"does she need to be?” harry laughs loudly. “what exactly were you planning?"

louis scoffs and punches harry’s arm with one hand still resting softly on the wheel. "fag."

harry ignores him. "so we can rent a movie and order in chinese, or something."

"we can watch whatever you want if i can take a shower at your place,” louis promises. “my hair is nasty right now."

"oh, is it?” harry asks, grinning. he rumages through his sports bag and pulls out his white velcro visor and sticks it on top of louis’ head. apparently harry has a large head, because the visor droops in louis’ face.

“i’m trying to drive here, dickhead.” louis laughs and pulls it off, throws it at harry’s chest. he’s got stubble and, if harry looks close enough, chapped lips. his hair does look greasy, in that sexy, axe murderer type way.

“what are you looking at?” louis asks roughly, fiddling with the radio to calm himself. harry can tell he’s on the precipice of another meltdown, so he thinks on his toes.

"mmm,” harry says passively. he tries not to grin at how angry louis sounded at this news, feeling pleased with himself.

harry leans up against his headboard, starting to nod off with his head propped up by his huge mass of pillows his mom had bought for him. he’s so close to falling asleep when louis turns the volume up on his tv, waving the remote around in his hand.

“how many fucking channels do you get?” louis sneers in mock anger, but the way he excitedly goes to the guide once again tells harry that he’s not really jealous.

harry shrugs sleepily, head drooping. “put whatever you want on. sorry if i fall asleep."

he actually does fall asleep almost immediately after warning louis, exhausted from his horrible day at school and from louis’ amazing foot job. he startles awake later not knowing how much time has passed. his room is now almost pitch black except for the light radiating from the tv.

his vision is blurry from sleep, so he rolls over facing away from louis, intending to go back to bed. then he starts hearing the noises. soft moans coming from the tv on the other side of his room.

it sounds like a girl and a guy, but harry doesn’t even know if louis is awake or not to hear it. maybe he rolled over on the remote in his sleep and changed the channel to porn by mistake?

English Diary #17

After a whole week of working afternoon shifts, it's time back to work morning shifts! My alarm was on 6:30 a.m and I reset it into 10 minutes later. I repeated this process 2 times more. In a word, I woke up at 7:00a.m. ;;;

On the way to the bus stop, I saw a girl waiting for a bus. Surprisingly, she called my name and I couldn't recognized who she was. A few more steps forward, I could. Apparently, she was my friend. What a small city! I bump into familiar faces at times. Come to think of it, I ran into one friend on bus 2days ago also...Well, it seemed like he was pretending that he didn't see me though. (why?)

Time really goes fast at work. It's a typical working routine : Work-Lunch-Work again-Getoff. It doesn't feel like 9 hours at all even though I don't play with my phone.

My senior looked a little bit edgy today. Normally, a sale period begins on Thursday. However, as Korean New Year's Day is around the corner, the sale started today exceptively. Yet, the store wasn't ready for the sale completely since she took day-off yesterday. Every workers were rushed into changing all the special shelves and products, which was expected to be selling much during this big natioanl holiday.

I met a friend after work. Turns out he lives near to my workplace. We ate some tasty dishes and then, Starbucks. We talked over coffee.

While I was waiting for bus to go back home, I couldn't feel my face and feet. It was so cold that the piled snows on the street didn't melt. It rather turned to the ice..... Ah, so freezing !

So there was this girl right....

So there was this girl right....that actually should be a indicator that this won't end well lol. But there was this girl. This amazing beautiful different unique girl. She was everything I've ever wanted. I remember the day we met....it was in the internet webs. I had never made a friend over the internet before and I kinda felt like I was weird. But I digress. I met her and we didn't hit it off initially but over time we grew closer. I grew to appreciate all of her. From her laugh to her awkwardness. I enjoyed watching her be who she was. Free. I slowly fell for her. I saw her for who she was, I cared about her deeply I loved her. She was always there for me when I was dealing with my issues. We started meeting up and spending time together. Eventually we hit a rough patch(which I didn't handle well....like at all). I won't go into details but it involved another guy and feels and no feels for me n blah blah blah. So let's fast forward a year. We had been on and off again friends that liked each other (I'm not 100% sure she liked liked me or if she was just attracted to me). So the last time we had been "on again" I fell deeper. I wasn't in love (I don't think) but I had the strongest feelings I had ever felt for her. She was overwhelming and it was intoxicating. I wanted her to be mine so bad. I wanted her to be my gf and I wanted her to just want me. But that's not how the universe works. As I said I fell deeper and honestly I feel like we would have dated 100% this last it but my job closed and I was transferred a whole state away.....right. So I decided that in 1 year I was going to come back and make her mine complete with titles. I worked of my schedule at my job that every other weekend I could come visit. The first time we chilled since reaching the new emotional level in our "relationship" was 2days before I had to leave. The next time we chilled was a week after I left. ( I came back to visit I couldn't stand to be away.) Then it happened again. In the middle of the night her attitude towards me changed a little. She wouldn't let me hold her n she seemed annoyed with me. I didn't know what I did. Maybe three 3 days after we chilled she said she might have feelings for someone else. Which hurt. A lot. So I gave her time and space. Just last week I told her I was gona come home again and that I'd like to see her. She said no that she wouldn't be able. I asked why and she told me that she was giving someone else a chance. I felt my heart break. I'm not sure why it hurt so much that last time. It wasn't the first time we had gone our own way. But it hurt I've been thinking about her none stop since. I want her to be happy I really do. I just wonder why couldn't we ever take off. I'm not blaming her i think it's just our story. I'm not sure honestly why I wrote this. I think to vent. She is a great young lady. I really just want the best for her. This whole thing is my point of view so with that being said God knows how she really felt. That girl is amazing she deserves happiness.

Chicken Fried Me.

My love affair with Fried Chicken got the better of me one fateful day in the fall of 2015. Let me start by saying that I’ve loved the Crispy Crunchy Crack (CCK) for as long as I can remember and no, it isn’t because I’m a black magic woman (despite known stereotypes)! In my experienced albeit opinion, fried chicken preparation is a matter of specific preference much like pancakes, eggs and steamed white rice. All relatively basic dishes but complex in their simplicity. Simply put, no two people like their pancakes the same. The second-time Julia Roberts and Richard Gere met on screen they found themselves in a fully conceptualized plot line sequence centered around breakfast eggs, in the movie Runaway Bride. Which brings us to the topic of chicken, Fried. I tend to enjoy my birds minus the breading or heavy batter (a light coating isn’t awful) skin and meat seasoned well with tons of garlic, the perfect amount of salt and frizzled to crispy perfection! Yummmmm :-) My Aunt Valerie makes the best CCK I’ve ever eaten, hands down. I would go so far as to say every birthday party I had until about 13years old (when we graduated from kiddie parties to necking w/ teenage boys in the back of a movie theater) featured Val’s cocks on the menu. Gourmet preparations don’t quite cut it for me. CCK is comfort food and some things are just meant to soothe the soul, not be camera ready for a close-up in the April issue of Bon Appétit. The less fancy, the better. Long after my parents ``moved on up” from The Bronx to the suburbs in Westchester County, NY senior year in H.S. My home-girl Andrea Barna and I would skip 5th and 6th periods to make the 45 minute drive from Chappaqua to Gun Hill Road to cop a 6-piece hot wings and fries’ combo from Kennedy Fried Chicken (had to go back to the city for this delicacy lol). Kennedy had this Jewish American girl stuck on stupid and hooked like a well strung out junkie!

Before recent, on any given weekday all spring and summer, you could find me from about 5pm until at my favorite little Brazilian hole in the wall on Hester & Ludlow St. Barzinho- owned by a dude named Leo who’s literally Skepta’s doppelgänger was treasure of an authentic Brazilian food joint on the border of Chinatown and LES. Leo after having lived in Brazil for over a decade decided to open a small f&f spot where diners could watch vintage episodes of Soul Train screened on the walls while feasting on the greatest street food outside of Rio– cochinas, feijoada, quejo, etc. and truly the BEST frango (Brazilian style fried chicken) I’ve ever, EVER eaten! Pair the frango with copious rounds of caipirinhas and you have a meal and moment to die for! I think I spent the entire 2014 there and for sure partook in several late-night cat naps on the row of chairs behind the bar (we used to chief in the bathroom in between meals into the wee hours. of the night ;-) I can affirm that it was a sad day in New York when Leo finally closed its doors last November. Further proof of the end of an era… Still, me and the CCK continued to rock on!

Whenever my guilty pleasure took hold of me, I’d high tail my tushy to the nearest Popeye’s for a 2-piece w/ a biscuit and mash ;) Or on a late night after party creep, a center breast situation from Crown Fried Chicken (easily found on any 3 block radius in every borough) was my savior. So, it should come as no surprise when I tell you I met myself at a moment of nostalgia in early October 2015, October 14 to be exact. I’d started the transition from New York City to Los Angeles 3 months’ prior a and had been living bi-coastal by this time. I was due back in LA for a 2day work trip before I would set out on a much-needed vacation. Upon arrival to LAX I started out on the drive from the airport to my company’s apartment on 2nd St & Sycamore Avenue. Driving North on La Cienega Blvd I turn off on 3rd St to shoot east towards La Brea. As I’m driving across I pass a KFC (stares the devil in the face) and get a waft of that crispy, crackly tray of golden brown, bringing me right back to my childhood. I digress for a moment because the surprise here is that though I love The Fried Chicken, I’m not much of a fan of KFC. It hasn’t tasted right since it’s earlier days as Kentucky Fried Chicken (shortened the name and out went the goodness and in came the GMOs). I’d sooner opt for Roy Rogers or any Chinese restaurant’s version of 4 wings and pork fried rice.

But this day was different, whatever it was I smelled took hold of me and I was 10 years old again. I needed a sample, just a small taste. How harmful could that be, right?! RIGHT. I skirted up to the drive-thru window, ordered my leg-wing & a biscuit and peeled off across 3rd to get me and my box ‘o glory home, quickly. Two bites into what looked like Howard The Duck’s artificial leg and I knew I’d made a grave mistake. I forced finished one piece so that It wasn’t a complete waste (there are starving people on Skid Row.) With each bite, I could hear my tummy questioning what was coming down my trachea. She was like “Girl, stop while you’re ahead!” A spoonful of more potatoes and I threw away the remains. It was at this exact moment when my intestines took on a life of their own. Both large and small decided that Jesus needed to take the wheel. I laid down with the comfort that my stomach is strong and after all the things it’s encountered over my culinary years, it can pretty much pass through anything. Let’s just say I got very little sleep that night and woke up the following morning feeling as though a sledgehammer had gone through my lower back and my stomach was speaking in tongues. I know what you’re thinking, “you ate some bad food, we’ve all been there, what’s the big whoop?!” The big whoop here is that I was scheduled to return to New York that afternoon and fly to Jamaica for a holiday the following day.

I digress again quickly to note that I go to JA about 2twice a year for as long as I can remember, to refuel. At times, I travel alone other times- friends’ family, lovers, etc. join in. This trip my friend Julia (new transport to NYC from Berlin) was coming along for some fun in the sun.

Much to her dismay the girl she met at the gate at JFK airport was not who she expected to travel alongside. Instead of me shimmying my way to the seat (which is my typical pre-vacay boarding steez) I stood at the front of the ticket line at a 6:20 position, skin tone slightly gray in color. I assured her there was nothing to fear and no reason to worry. I’ll be as good as new once we get to Negril, eat a good meal and rest in front of my beloved Caribbean Sea. We arrive at Sangster Airport in Montego Bay and like clockwork Norman (who’s been picking me up for the past 11 years) spies us and embraces me with a warm yet concerning smile. We begin the 2-and-a-half-hour drive from Mo Bay to Negril to arrive at my secret hideaway (If I told you, it would no longer be ;-) on the far end of West Mile Road. I’m happy as a pig in shit because I’m home, one of my favorite places in the world, but physically speaking, I’m fucked up! Julia, doing her best to comfort me, could sense it too. By this time, I’m 3days into this stomach bug, nothing has been able to remedy or relieve me and now my overactive imagination is in overdrive! I’m convinced something’s either living inside of me or this chicken I ate that was clearly fried in a month's old grease is violently lodged inside my gut and only a colonic will offer any reprieve.

A last-minute colonic, in Negril, on a Friday, Sure. And just like that, EUREKA the solution comes to me. An Enema- I need an enema to pass this crap out my body. But I’m in the country, where am I getting an enema from and more importantly, who’s gonna’ administer it?! First things first, I found the receptionist who sent the driver dung di road (Yardie voice) to get me a pill (medicine). The driver returned with what looked like a douche receptacle from Summer’s Eve but not quite. Half-way there. Excited that relief is only a few moments away, I dash to Jules’ bungalow for assistance. (I mean, we are friends, both girls and isn’t that what friends are for?!) The digression to follow is necessary lol. To my S&TC cult follower readers, remember the episode when Carrie’s diaphragm was lodged deep inside her vagina and Samantha had to help her get it out?! Well, imagine a similar scenario in Jules’ bedroom only this time I’m face down, ass up (I would’ve killed a Luke video) on her bed and being the brave soul she was, proceeded to spread my cheeks apart, insert the suppository and squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. With each squish, the rush of fluid up my rectum felt euphoric. Oh - this is good, it’s working, I can feel it. Hahah! The instructions said that once complete, I was to lay flat on my stomach for a few minutes or until the urge to poop became overwhelming. That’s easy, I felt the urge as she was quashing me. Quick sidebar- you wouldn’t assume because I’m a tall glass of water, but I’m a slim thick and my derriere is quite substantial lol. They (DJ Khalid voice) will tell you it’s the best kept secret in New York, real talk ;-)

So, there we were, my home-girl, more acquainted with my anatomy than anyone outside my man, gynecologist or bikini wax technician and I hoping for a miracle. And as the devil would have it, NONE. My posture dropped to 6:30 and I was irritated as fuck! Did I REALLY need a taste of that disgusting death in a box?! Help didn’t arrive until the following afternoon when the facial technician, aptly named Maxine (my mother’s name) offered her mother’s home grown remedy sure to cure “Every Ting.” Noticing my discomfort while massaging the impurities out of my face, Max vowed to return later that evening with a bush made concoction that would get me square biz in no time! A greenish liquid comprised of varying plants (one named Dog’s Blood, more similar to a four-leaf clover than anything Old Yeller would express) and roots -lots of roots is what finally cured me. Thank Jehovah! By the following morning, I felt like a new woman and not surprisingly, 5 pounds lighter! First order of business, a dive off the high bridge on the property into mother ocean greeting her with my return :- )

I don’t subscribe to the idea of coincidences. All things, tangible and intangible, exist on a frequency and for a reason. I do believe It was the spirit of both my mother (Maxine) and grandmother (Joyce) channeled through Maxine the wonderful facial specialist that saved me and my tummy. Suffice it to say, my love for fried chicken remained but from that moment on, I vowed to give up fast food as a guilty pleasure all together and to never EVER step foot inside a KFC again, bringing new meaning to the meme of a pre-diabetic weight loss, oversize Rick Ross standing in front of a giant size bucket of KFC with the caption “I Pray to God I look My Killer in His Eyes.” :-) –APIMM

Spice Girls world tour ABANDONED after lesbian fling claims

A worldwide tour is no longer on the cards for the Spice Girls after the Geri Horner and Mel B lesbian fling bombshell.

The Mail On Sunday has revealed that plans were being drawn up to stage a series of lucrative concerts before Mel B let the lesbian fling bombshell drop.

Geri, Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton were said to be lining up gigs in America, Australia and the Far East for when their whistle stop UK tour ends on June 15.

‘They agreed that they had to do the British dates because they are under contract and they don’t want to let their fans down, but there won’t be any more.

‘There had been plans to keep it going but no more.’
