can i ask for a quick rundown of your mcd and/or mystreet rewrite? i’m a new follower and a tiny bit lost 😭

Ah, Ofc!! this will be a long post, because you said 'quick' and i just heard 'explain everything'. just because I don't know HOW to summarise everything, so I just explain what I can... which is too much.

each section will have a TL;DR if it's long, though.

So, the only rewrite I’ve actually, like, done so far is Amaranth (https://archiveofourown.org/works/31310384)

It’s an MCD rewrite, the first one I did, and it’s not **technically** related to my overall rewrite universe, though I’m not going to totally discredit it. It’s where I got a lot of my ideas, and it was sort of a first draft for me. It’s very similar to MCD, just with events changed to how I would have written them myself. Major change is that the Zane/aphmau engagement actually goes somewhere. My favourite change was the Pikoro arc tho for some reason bc it was just my first significant deviation from the original plot.

Now… cannibalism and cult stuff, yeah?

(Don’t read past this point if you are uncomfortable with discussions of human-on-human meat/organ consumption)

Lycoris Radiata (https://archiveofourown.org/works/50710504) is the only part of this current era of rewrite!Aphverse that has any content so far.

TL;DR for this section: i mostly just emphasised themes present in canon, there's cannibalism for magical reasons, Shad is more relevant early on, and there's a reason why characters look like that when i draw them, i promise. Also, cult stuff!

LR is an MCD rewrite, which has some lore changes. It begins with Avra (Aphmau) travelling with Visher, Garroth being angsty, and so on. Only the prologue and first chapter are currently posted, and you don't need to read Amaranth to begin it (though it will follow similar storylines later on). Basically, the main premise is that it’s kind of a criticism of imperialism, organised religion, and so on. Those are themes already present in original MCD, and so I… expanded. Blood Magic is the main magic focused on as well. It's the kind that Avra uses, and it's the kind that makes SKs function. Avra has to consume blood and meat (typically organ meat, preferably human) in order to have any amount of magic, and depending on what creature the meat comes from, also grants her some fun little magical extras. She also has a strong association with Judgement(Shad) in my rewrite, and there is a reason I draw them so often together. Most character changes you'll see have some lore-based backing for it. Characters who are made darker-skinned, or have had their haircolour changed, it's typically due to them belonging to a particular ethnic group that i made for Ru'Aun or Tu'La, which does impact their characters in the way that they obviously grew up under certain cultures. Sometimes it'll just be because I think it looks cool, or for visual/thematic parallels with another character. If you're ever curious as to knowing why i have certain characters looking the way I do, then just ask. Oh, also, people aren't just loyal to Avra because she's nice. there's like an actual cult thing that begins happening and to say there's some weird shit with that would be... underselling it.

A Royal Tale, and Mermaid Tales both fall into the timeline between LR and the MyS rewrite. they're quite insignificant series, but i decided to devote myself to being a completionist.

My plans for them aren't really set in stone yet, but I know i want to expand upon them and their lore a lot more, and they will eventually both fall into the, uh, cannibalism and murder theme of the rest of the rewrites. they'll likely be little side projects. I have trauma from ART tho. Show makes me *uncomfy*

Mystreet.... yayyyy...

No official name for the rewrite yet, I'm working on it.

TL;DR: If you let an edgy teenager write MyS but they also watched desperate housewives so they write some sitcom episodes on the side. Also, Avra needs that gross-tasting nailpolish that stops you from chewing on your nails... but like... all over her body.

Basically, MyS except they've always been reincarnations of their MCD (or LR, in this case) selves, with some residual trauma and habits because of that. I'm going to lean more into the darker seasons, even though Ik popular opinion is that the light-hearted ones were the best, and I'll just focus more on lore and stuff. PDH has a 17 year old Avra joining PDH, after being homeschooled for a while due to having some mental health issues. I'm going to go a little more 'general highschool drama' vibes, might have some mystery shit idk. Will be less cringe than canon, because yes, i'm cringe and i'm free, but even i have limits. The more lighthearted seasons might just be amalgamed into one big 'sitcom style' fic, which will be set before S4 and such, but i'll probably make lighthearted chapters between the serious ones. S4, Aphmau's Year, S5, S6 and Her Wish will be my main priority, and will go into the whole murder and cannibalism theme of LR. It'll already have been kind of expanded upon, because MyS!Avra has a bit of a habit of auto-cannibalism (eating the skin around her nails/on her fingers, on the inside of her cheeks and on her lips) which eventually just... goes a little crazy. There is gonna be cult stuff in MyS too, it just might present differently to how it does in LR. Or maybe similarly. Idk, depends on how you view it.

hi it's mermay and i'm thinking about sirens. i'm gunna do some looking of my own (at seadragons, probably) but can you think of any fish that look like their tails/features would make a cool mermaid?

Hello! I've actually answered a similar question before, here is my answer to that one:

But since your question is a little different, I'll feature some unique fish species you could find inspiration from!

The rockmover wrasse! Here is an adult, the juvenile is a little wilder:

Crazy patterns! Should go to good use :)

Eels! Just any type of eel, really. They come in such varied shapes and sizes, and have various abilities too! If you're the type of person who likes to give merpeople the features of the fish they're based on, just imagine a moray eel merperson with two jaws! Or a ribbon eel merson whose tail sways like a ribbon while swimming. I'd suggest looking into eels!

Electric eels too! Despite the name, they aren't actually eels at all, so I'm mentioning their genus separately here. Long fish that sense things with electricity and can generate it, even being able to cause prey animals to stop or start swimming with careful shocks... need I say more?

Here's one that could have many ways to be interpreted as a merson. Stargazers! They're ambush predators that hide in the sand, only having their eyes and mouth showing. I'd like to see how those would be interpreted as merpeople.

Mudskippers! The semiaquatic fish that live most of their lives on land.

Another one that walks, frogfish! Many species not only have a lure, but also walk along the bottom of the seafloor. How's that for an interesting merson challenge?

I don't think I've ever seen a merson who looks like a billfish, as in like a swordfish, sailfish or a marlin. The particular fish here is a sailfish!

I don't see some reef fish often, either. How about a moorish idol?

Perhaps the similarly-shaped butterflyfish?

Oh hey, maybe mandarinfish! That's one colourful guy :)

Deep sea fish are always a treat, too. They look very otherworldly compared to the fish we see often in everyday life! My personal favourite is the barreleye, but any friend from the deep is a friend indeed. The stoplight loosejaw who has a private red flashlight, the cookiecutter shark who sneakily bites chunks off bigger animals, bristlemouths with their large jaws and tiny teeth... I recommend looking into fish that have photophores, aka light-producing organs! They're fish that glow in the dark!!! Extremely cool and mysterious...

Lanternfish are a good example of this, I think. They're thought to be the most abundant group of vertebrates, they're deep sea-living, they have photophores, they migrate vertically in humongous schools that literally look like false bottoms to sonar.

Deep sea anglerfish are a classic, old but gold. Seldom used in merfolk! I've tried tackling anglerfish merfolk myself before, I'll feature my concept sketches below for possible inspiration... though they contain artistic nudity, so I'll only feature them under the cut.

And there you have it! I got kinda carried away, I'm sure no one minds. Have a fun Mermay! I'm gonna draw some art for it myself, but in the meantime, have this fish ramble :)

Her first initial concept on the left and some additional ones on the right. Anglerfish of all kinds use lures to trick prey, so I wanted to mix the lure aspect with mermaids to create a siren that lures in sailors with her human half and eats them with her fish half. The human half has working eyes, vocal chords and lungs to first spot sailors, then call and sing to them, but besides that all the other organs are in the fish half. No doubt similar merple exist, but this was my take on it! It's a lot of fun to be creative, I recommend just going with the flow and doing what feels the most natural or coolest. You've got this!

What book are you currently reading?

The Writing Revolution...I can't in good conscience recommend it unless you also happen to find yourself as a teacher trying to capture teenagers' imaginations and get them to produce complete sentences! Hahahaha. Miserable toil.

Ooh, this one's easy--The Little Mermaid!! I have seen it with my family twice and then with my friends once. (I felt a little freer to lust after Prince Eric when my husband and two children weren't sitting there with me...)

These days, some form of athleisure. During the school year, I've been told my teacher style is "Jessica Day if she didn't care so much" and...that about sums it up.

I start grad school in the fall and I'll be getting my Principal's Certification with that, so I suppose I'm in this education world for the long haul.

Oh my. I haven't written as much as I'd like to this year (although I'm hoping to post something before the weekend!!) so I'm choosing to interpret this as the last 12 months. Maybe this bit from walking by her side, talking by her side, have pity?

Ur mom. Okay...sorry. Ahem. I've been sewing more lately. I used ot dabble in high school, but I'm finding more motivation to make things for my toddler than I did to make things for myself.

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

The weather recently! It was supposed to rain the past couple weeks and we've not gotten much more than a few minutes of sprinkling. I looooove rainy days, so that's bummed me out quite a bit.

I'm excellent at whistling. It's completely useless, but I'll get compared to a Disney princess occasionally, so I guess that's something.

Yes. My faith is very important to me, but it's *my* faith, so I don't feel the need to bring it up with strangers unless asked about it. (Crazy concept, right?)

The lost Princess of the ocean book two part one.

Masterlist

A continuation of book one. A Zoro X reader story.

You have been kidnapped by the White Shadow Assassins - the men who tortured you as a child. Zoro, Luffy and the crew of the Going Merry will stop at nothing to bring you back.

“All hands on deck for the cast off ceremony!” Luffy calls out excitedly and runs down to meet Sanji at the barrel. Slowly you all walk up and stand around it.

Sanji starts first lifting his foot up onto the barrel, his hands still firmly in his pockets.

“I'm gonna find the All Blue.”

“I'm gonna be King of the Pirates.” Luffy takes his turn.

“I'm gonna be the world's greatest swordsman.” Zoro announced.

“I'm gonna draw a map of the world.” Nami smiles.

“I.. am gonna become a brave warrior of the sea!” Usopp decides.

You take a breath and lift your foot.

“Until I find my dream, I'll make sure yours all come true.” they all smile at you.

“This is it, crew. The Grand Line. Nothing's gonna stand in our way! Yeah! Whoo!” Luffy screams out and you all laugh happily.

Heat, heat and pain is all you could focus on. Your mind could not grasp anything else happening around you. Your eyes had blurred hours ago. Sweat that ran down your face mixing with the fresh blood.

A hand grasped your chin lifting your face upward and you felt a face close to yours.

“Did you really think you would get away? That we wouldn't find you? Task tsk tsk, there is nowhere for you to hide, little princess.” The voice growled into your ear. “Perhaps this brand will keep you from attempting this again. A little reminder of who you belong to.”

“Dalton, I'm sorry.” You whisper the words, unable to muster your voice.

“Oh, they gave you your voice back I see. Well we can soon cut that out once more. Princesses can't talk without a tongue.” He laughs.

“No, no, keep the tongue, I always liked the tongue” another male voice called from somewhere behind you. Dalton laughed along with several other people.

“Don't be fooled, little princess, your new friends will never find you, and then they will forget all about you.” His words cut as deep as any blade could have. You knew he was right. Even if they did look for you, no one has ever found the assassins. Taking in short breaths you try to ignore the pain radiating from your forearm.

“Has he spoken yet? Come out of his room anything?” Usopp asked Nami, she shook her head.

“He just sits in her cabin.” She replied.

Sanji slid into a chair, “I tried making him chocolate rice balls, he looked at me but he didn't eat them.”

“It's been almost a week, we have no trail and no way of finding y/n.” Nami dropped her head onto her arms, resting on the table.

“How do we even start looking for her?” Usopp asked the room.

“I have an idea!” Luffy came bounding into the room. “We have to go to the Scented Lagoon.” he announced it like it was the obvious solution. The others looked at him with wide eyes.

“Are you insane? We wouldn't even get past the sea lock!” Sanji grabbed his favourite knife and started cutting up fish.

“What are you doing?” Nami asked him.

“I cook when I'm angry.” He grunted.

“Hang on, what's Scented Lagoon?” Usopp flicked his eyes between the three of them.

“It's a really dangerous place. Where devils roam the streets.” Sanji spat out, waving his knife around.

“That's superstition,” Nami corrects him, “but it is a mermaid home. Like hundreds of them all waiting for fresh blood to wander in and be eaten for dinner.” She scowled at Luffy as she spoke.

“Listen, I think I might be able to get us in there. Shanks told me once that mermaids love trinkets and jewels.”

“Okay. We don't have any of those.” Usopp says.

“We do, well Y/n does. She showed me, in the things Kaya gave her there were necklaces and rings and tiaras.” Luffy explained.

Usopp threw his hands up, shaking them. “Hold up, we aren't just going to throw away Maya's things.”

“No, Usopp, if he's right, Kaya wouldn't mind. You know her, she would want us to save y/n.” Nami put her hand on Usopp's in an attempt to reassure him. Usopp let out a sigh and nodded in agreement.

“How do we get there?” He asks.

Everyone looks at Nami and she rolls her eyes. They all follow her to the map room.

“Okay, we are here, the Lagoon is here, it's a four day trip but this ship is fast, if the weather is on our side we might make good time.” She explained it to them.

“Excellent I knew I could trust you guys. Good plan crew!” Luffy clapped Usopp and Sanji on their shoulders.

“Hey, Luffy, do you think you could talk to Zoro” Nami asked.

“Why? Is he sick? Does his wound hurt?” Luffy narrowed his eyes on her.

“No, Luffy, he isn't sleeping, talking, eating!” She explained. Luffy's eyes almost dropped from his eyes.

“He isn't eating?! Well that's no good for anyone.” The captain pushed his straw hat tighter on his head and marched down to your cabin where Zoro was sitting in the corner. His sword rested over his knees and ran a rag over the blade.

“Hi Zoro. I brought you some food. Nami said you aren't eating and that's no good. You need to eat.” He said, plonking a plate of rice balls beside his friend.

“I cannot, I must repent.” Zoro spoke in a low voice.

“For what?”

“I let this happen, I told y/n I would protect her and then I just let her be taken.”

“I've heard about mermaids before, I don't think even if all of us had been there that we could have stopped her.” Luffy admitted.

Zoro looked at him, his eyes held none of the mischief they once had.

“I guess I don't understand why you're so upset. We'll find her, you know? We have a plan!"

i think my most recent researches were about 19th century clothing on the West coast of Ireland, how to tune/take care of a grand piano and various things about opium addiction (different ways to take it, symptoms, withdrawal…). still have to read Confessions of an English Opium-Eater actually.

🛌 What's a trope you haven't written, but want to?

well technically my entire fanfiction is something i haven’t written 🤷🏻‍♀️😬 so i could list a dozen tropes from oblivious to love to sad byronic hero to young woman cheer up older moody guy, etc. something i haven't yet incorporated in the plot but is fun to think about: main HP characters finding out about my OTP secret relationship.

🐸 If you incorporated your OTP into a Disney movie plot, which would it be?

🤔 hmm. my first thought was The Litte Mermaid because it’s my favourite and because of the stalker overly enthusiastic redhead, but i feel it’d be cruel to Sev (i’ve given him extreme aquaphobia in my story).

if The Nightmare Before Christmas counts as a Disney movie then probably that. they physically fit the part (i do have a very old drawing of them costumed as Jack and Sally!) and it has the redhead pining after a clueless, melancholic mad scientist :D

now that i think of it he could be an interesting Rapunzel too 🤭

Voiceplay Visuals: Little Mermaid Medley

I already knew right from the start that this was going to be a long post, but how am I only just now realizing that the video itself is like nearly 8 minutes long? Like I knew the Wicked Medley was one of Voiceplay's longer-length videos, but somehow I never realised that this video is in fact longer by 10 seconds! (I guess it's just so good that I never noticed!) God I hope I don't hit the picture limit on this one, because I have a lot to talk about, so let's begin!

Bit of a far cry from the Moana Medley 3 years prior, hey? (This was released in September 2020 btw). I may be wrong, but I believe this is called "we have a bigger budget now" 😂

Right, so Eli (already doing a subtle Eyebrow Raise, might I add), is dressed as Flounder, Rachel is of course Ariel, J is repping Sebastian, Layne is Chef Louis (I think that's his name), and Geoff went freaking all-out as Ursula (aka "Geoffsula"). The hair! The necklace! The airbrushing on the skin! (Seriously that ain't just a standard layer of face/body paint, there is shading going on there!)

(Also what's up with the green wristbands which I've never really acknowledged till now?)

J and Rachel echoing the "heave ho!" bit to each other (gonna try and limit my screencap-taking just a little bit, because I'll probably end up including a ton anyway)

Rachel slipped on that bracelet really smoothly, is it just me? Like girl how did you do that so easily?

Love the little detail of Rachel throwing up the fork (aka "dinglehopper") and it not coming down again. No clue how they did it

(Also that is a very pretty bracelet. And cute necklace!)

Whose idea was this? 😂 (Layne was in charge of both the arrangement and the video, I'm guessing it was him?) And then Voiceplay stuck it on a shirt and made it into merch! (And also for J's farewell party, they got him a cake that had a picture of snail!J on it!)

(Also fun fact: the woman shown here is Rachel Evans, one third of the singing group The American Sirens, who collaborated with Geoff a year later on his cover of Mele Kalikimaka, and the man is her husband!)

The colouration/tint of the lighting does really interesting things to Geoff's blueish skin colour in this video. In some shots the skin is a really vibrant colour (e.g. see a couple of the shots above), whereas in others, like this one ^ here, it almost looks close to regular skin tone.

This little moment greatly pleases my drama/theatre kid heart 😁

Okay but the signature bit was very cool, and definitely feels like something Voiceplay would not have been able to do back in 2017

Firstly, Rachel's acting is 100% on-point, and second of all, I love Geoff's evil smirk here, doubly confirming that Rachel is being Vanessa, aka Ursula in disguise!

And now that "Ariel" has got her voice back, everyone else is super happy/animated, while "Ursula" is very subdued. Visual storytelling!

Just managed to avoid the image limit, thank goodness! Also J pops a bubble right at the end 😁

It's hard for me to say whether this is one of Voiceplay's best medleys or not, because how can you compare it to the Boy Band Medley or Trapped or A Chance To Fly? But I will say it is very deserving of the 5.5 million views it currently sits at on YouTube. A lot of effort went into both the arrangement and the video (well done Layne!), and honestly when it comes to Disney stuff, Voiceplay never fails!

Pretty simple story. Mandark coming to the realization that he's in love with his rival of all people and now is in the denial stage but his mind lingers on their moments of vulnerability together

I've tried to watch shows as I draw but it's incredibly distracting but I love listening to music.

I'm a big fan of music! I desperately need something to hear whenever I draw so I love putting it on or hearing someone talk

These are my recent songs I've been listening to but often I just put on my dexdark or dexter's laboratory or ego trip playlists that I desperately need to update

I need to expand my tastes lol but i recommend GUY.exe and fan behavior so much (i think of dexter when i listen to guy.exe and just him complaining that he wants a boyfriend then proceeds to describe his rival and i want to make a small animatic bad)

It is time for

This year the event will be hosted by Snow Miku! Not exactly magical girls but close enough design wise.

Here is the magical girl media consumed on this blog this year:

(Delicious Party Precure, Futari wa Precure Max Heart, Magia Record s3, Machikado Mazoku s2, Tokyo Mew Mew New, Magic Users' Club! (OVA), Magic User's Club! (Tv), Tropical Rouge! Precure season movie, Futari wa Precure Max Heart season movies 1 & 2)

At first it looked like I barely read any magical girl manga this year, but then ended up reading a couple in the final few weeks of the year:

(Magilumiere co ltd, Time Stranger Kyoko (reread), The Life After Retirement of Magical Girls, No Match for Aoi-kun, Magical Lollipop)

Also I read a lot of magical girl webcomics!

(Magical Mom, Sleepless Domain, Cloudy Wondrous, Apricot Cookie(s)!, Miss Guillotine, Strawberry Seafoam)

Then let's go through the events that happened this year. We had a tournament for the favourite Precure, and Cure Milky was the winner! This time it has taken even longer to draw the celebratory art for the winners than last year and I'm still not done, but I guess nobody but me really cares about that so all is well.

We also had a poll for most/least favourite magical girl elements, which I used to compile the most liked and least liked magical girls (though I think the least liked one turned out to be more popular). I really liked this idea and would like to do something more with it one day, or at least just get statistics on people's opinions on different magical girl tropes for fun.

I also did both Mermay and Witchtober this year (and Adorkastock Draw Everything June which I've done every year since its inception), which included a lot of magical girl content. I like these monthly drawing challenges since I enjoy drawing a set of themed characters, and usually the results are a lot more varied than the stuff I usually draw. So next year I'd like to do some more, but I'll have to find different challenges so it won't get repetitive, this was the second Mermay I did and while it mostly involved characters I never draw otherwise, I'd still like to give that spot to something else next time.

Saban Moon was unleashed to the public this year, which did not affect me that much since I have very little relationship with Sailor Moon, but I can still appreciate unearthing a secret alternative version of a well known character (also it was my most popular drawing this year)

This year I started and exercise project by trying to motivate myself with the reward of buying a Miku Nendoroid each time I exercise a certain amount of times. It has been mostly successful, or there are breaks but they are a lot shorter than they would ever be without a prize looming in the future. Much recommended!

Finally one thing that's different from last year that I didn't draw a lot of characters for my magical girl chibi series, because I was busy drawing a different kind of chibi series (hundreds of Pokemon chibis on my other blog). And this chibi style spread to several of my other fandoms too, I used it on the Witchtober, and I've done four (I think) sets of requests in it.

Finally a mention to my frustration on the lack of green Precures culminating in a series of green Precure OCs.

Then onto the awards!

Best Henshin Design goes to Cloudy Wondrous! A solid design where everything works together (I’m especially a fan of the cloud motif used in different places), and the unique details (crown, wing eyepatch thing) make it more memorable.

Best Team Design goes to Tokyo Mew Mew New! Granted I think I like the original designs more, but TMM team design is still strong here as well, it's recognisable as TMM but highly customisable for OCs.

Best Powerup Design goes to Strawberry Seafoam! Or they should probably rather be called separate forms on the same level with different purposes rather than increasing in power, but who's counting. They are all pretty (as are the other mermaids' transformations) but let's say the jellyfish one is my favourite, it has such warm glowing palette (but also an illuminated dark mode!) and it creates a unique silhouette.

Also a shoutout to Cure Spicy's Party Up Style "hat".

Best Civilian Design goes to Amane's winter look from Delicious Party Precure! It just looks so comfy...

Best Hair goes to Sae from Magic User's Club! It's pretty simple compared to the usual absurd magical girl hairstyles, but I like how the angular shapes make it memorable.

Best Magical Item goes to Bijou's pen from Strawberry Seafoam! It looks pretty, and I like magic where you actually draw your spells. And it's fun to see her style evolve!

Best Henshin Scene goes to the dresser henshin in Magilumiere! Overall it has a lot of creative henshin and I really hope it gets animated some day!

Best Fan Creation is the catch-all award for everything that's not from, like, a big corporation, and this year the competition is really tough with all these highly polished webcomics, on a normal year any one of them would have been the winner but now I have to pick one. And it is also this year's Best Work, so more on that later!

Best Relationship goes to the group in Magic Users' Club! Their relationships feel very natural, and everyone has something different going on with the other characters. And while there is a little drama, the overall vibe is delightfully positive.

Best Mascot goes to Kome-Kome from Delicious Party Precure! Personality or plot-wise there's nothing that interests me about her, but it must be said that I'm a sucker for progressively aging designs and she's also stupidly cute.

Best Supporting Character goes to the 4th wall breaking Director of Darkness, from Apricot Cookie(s)! He just cracks me up every time he is on panel with his friendly and welcoming attitude.

Honourable mention to Mari-chan from Precure who is the best character in the season but who unfortunately doesn’t get to do much.

Best Visual goes to the art style of Strawberry Seafoam! Bold and unique glowing saturated colours that somehow feel nostalgic. Special mention to all the swirly magic.

Honourable mention to the art style shifts Apricot Cookie(s)!, sometimes the art goes to retro manga or anime or 3d idol dance models for fun. And another honourable mention to the visual presentation of the Apricot Cookies website.

Best Audio goes to the Shiny Luminous / Queen theme in Futari wa Precure Splash Star (not the henshin one but the one when she’s doing something epic). Feels very majestic.

For the Best Scene I don’t have anything specific that comes to mind over everything else this year, so let’s say Kuroe’s fate in MagiReco, Shiny Luminous in the Max Heart finale and Grandma’s fate in Apricot Cookie(s)! can share it.

Innovation Award is for honouring a work doing something new and refreshing for the magical girl genre. This year I read several webcomics (that generally get to be more innovative than commercial anime) and even one actual manga that focused on "magical girls as a job", but each with a little different angle. So a shoutout to Magilumiere Co ltd, Sleepless Domain, Cloudy Wondrous, Apricot Cookie(s)!, Miss Guillotine and Magical Mom! With this many of them it'd feel a little weird to pick any for the "innovation award" over the same topic, so let's reward Magical Mom, for having, well, the magical mom! Magical girls whose mother is also a magical girl are of course a thing, but this time the child is a boy, and the mother also is an active and prominent character (and not just a background mentor), so that is new to me.

Then the Golden Mana Award, that is the dishonourable mention awarded to one thing I didn't like this year!

This year it goes to Porun from Futari wa Precure Max Heart. Frankly he was probably more annoying in the original Futari wa but I had something else to complain about that year so now it's his turn. For the life of me I can't understand how this would be an appealing character concept even for children, like don't even 5-year-olds get annoyed at a toddler sibling's tantrums interrupting their big kid play? Even his less overtly irritating scenes don't do much for me, since they rely on "aww isn't it cute how the baby wants to be with you" mushiness.

Also another dishonourable mention to downgrading Pudding’s jumpsuit into a dress.

Best Character goes to Kuroe! (from MagiReco) I really like her design (especially how it mirrors Iroha’s), her quiet and hesitant personality and her melancholic story that felt fresh among all the magical girls who excitedly jump into saving every passerby. Or I don’t really like how she fit in the larger narrative, but in isolation I think her story was interesting.

Best Work goes to Apricot Cookie(s)! It's really funny and the art is great, and the character designs are memorable. The heroine is charmingly dumb and everyone in her family is great. And it took a while to grow on me, but in the end the weeb references make me feel at home.

Plans for 2023

I didn't manage to get any of the shorter mg shows from last year's list (though I did watch Magic User’s Club which wasn’t on the list) so those are still there. I'd also like to watch two series from the Precure backlog, this year I only managed one.

Art-wise I plan to do more for the chibi series, and do another "x colour Precure oc" series. And I'd really like to draw more art that has, like, a background or a mood or a composition, but let's see if that goes anywhere.

Absolutely! Thank you for asking, dear anon, and I’m so sorry I didn’t get to answer this sooner!

Here’s some designs and some info and lore! Once again, this is gonna be a long one so strap in and get ready /lh

Bakugou and Deku (I am not used to drawing them I hope they look okay!):

So, these two are interns, training to be security guards for the warehouse. (warehouse makes the androids, and stores the corrupt ones under the facility)

They are training under Aizawa, and also follow and take notes from the other head security guards like Ectoplasm, Snipe, All Might.

They joined because a) they needed money and b) they heard about the corruptions and both decided to check it all out.

There isn't much else except that Jeanist thinks Bakugou is a funky lil human and watches over him a lot, and All might teaches Deku how to work the security cameras.

(I rarely ever think about the main characters so this is kinda new to me!! The only other AUs i have with bakugou are single parent au and little mermaid au)

They unfortunately got lost on their first shift and bumped into jeanist but luckily Ecto saved them and took them to Aizawa to get their gear.

Aizawa:

So. Shouta is in charge of training most of the new interns

He had been friends with Hizashi -who is a scientist at the warehouse- before the corruptions started and joined as a security guard.

He lost his eye on his first shift and likes to tell the new interns it was from a corruption.

It was actually from him running down a flight of stairs and tripping while trying to hide from one of the corruptions there. His eye got taken out by the railing.

The corruptions tend to leave him be, except for Midnight and Edgeshot, who like to make his evening hell by throwing things at him for fun.

Okay, so under the cut are my ectoloader and edgejeanist designs and info (because they are kinda the whole center focus of this au) The reason they're under the cut is for these following warnings.

CW: talk of grief and loss, body horror, dismemberment, rather graphic depictions of death, terminal illness, suicide. ((I will not be going into **major** detail, but will go into enough for these warnings. Please take notice of them.))

I’ll do ectoloader first:

Higari:

ahh my favourite lil guy...im gonna put him through hell /lh

So, Higari was one of the top scientists and developers at the warehouse.

While I'm here, I'd like to mention that the warehouse is called UA and all the canon faculty staff work(ed) as scientists/developers there.

(And another thing: the Commission is the secret government organisation behind the entire android thing. And they are the reason for the corruptions, disappearances and deaths of scientists.)

(They wanted to make the androids more sentient and make people want them more but it backfired and they developed corruptions.)

(Any scientists that knew about it were killed, but then they started experiments to turn these scientists into androids/replace them so that no one knew they were missing. They hired more scientists to do this. The cycle repeats.)

Higari was secretly helping to develop the androids for these experiments and was starting to figure out more of what was happening deeper.

One day, they decided that he was a) too smart to be kept alive and b) a perfect test subject since he already had his own AI.

He had uploaded his thoughts and all of his personal and work stuff into an AI version of himself as a backup. Many of them did that.

That night, he went to the Commission hq and they locked him in a room with his AI and some physical robot parts

They proceeded to forcefully corrupt his AI, and made him record a few voice messages to be inputted after his death.

(he was being threatened with Ecto's life, so of course he does as he is told)

He then proceeds to get torn apart limb from limb and discarded by his own AI.

A replacement android had been made and the AI installed, this was going to take his place. and so the new android higari is taken to the warehouse to be planted in his office as if he had simply 'been attacked and passed out all night'

Android!Higari does not have a voice box. Even after they try to install it, he can't/refuses to talk.

This is a mix of his AI and actual ghost Higari not wanting anyone to find out what happened and get into danger.

Corrupt!Higari is incredibly hostile and dangerous but also switches to completely docile within seconds.

Ecto:

Dear old Ecto goes through a lot

He is the head of security and lost his legs in an accident the first few corruptions.

He has to deal with the fact that most of the interns that train with them. Don't make the night.

He also, very often, has to clean up the...well...remains of these said interns. He is desensitised to it at this point.

One day Higari doesn't come home after a late night shift. They find him in the morning. He seems shaken and can't speak. That's okay.

A few days pass and Ecto is desperately looking into the security footage to find out what exactly happened and why his husband seems so out of it.

He finds something. He finds footage of Higari at his desk, everything seeming normal until he gets up and walks off, taking his voice recorder that he used for development notes.

No footage after this. So obviously he digs around quietly, having a strange feeling something is off.

That's when he finds the notes. The last messages Higari pleaded to be able to record just in case. Him explaining that he knows Ecto will find out and him begging him not to come looking.

And unfortunately, his brutal death was also recorded. And so Ecto stood there in pure shock, horror and realisation as he listens to everything.

He turns around to see Android!Higari standing there, very obviously corrupted, and he just can't bring himself to do anything and he gets attacked and almost killed!

Higari stops and just kinda shuts down. (his ghost self stopped himself...if that makes sense) And Ecto is found by the others and all the reveals are made and Corrupt!Higari is locked away in the warehouse.

Ecto mourns hard. Very hard. He stops taking breaks, he stops looking after himself, he just takes every single nightshift he can and buries himself in work.

The first few nights he is incredibly aggressive with any corruptions that come up to him and he just. he sad :(

time passes and he just becomes numb and used to everything and more corruptions come in and he learns how to deal with them all.

Extra:

Higari's ghost comes back to haunt and possess his own android self in a sense of protection and watching over the others.

His ghost is also the thing that makes the corruption go docile and also is the reason why No one can get any info.

AI!Higari develops feelings of guilt. Genuine feelings of guilt. Also attacks any corruptions that try to hurt Ecto, even when almost lashing out at him himself.

Ecto is a tiny bit unhinged and often will entertain the Corruptions wants or needs to play.

He memorises their "off-switches", so things that he has found out make them docile or manageable.

No one else takes the job of cleaning up "accidents" so he just does it. He even has a special mop. He often will find severed limbs and just chuck them at some of the androids that like to chomp on them (despite not having stomachs...where does it go?!)

Higari stays in his cell most of the time because he can't be bothered to get out. His AI has access to the same knowledge and things he did in life. He just can't be bothered to do anything about it.

Corrupt!Higari will sometimes wander up to Ecto and just look at him sadly and then leave. That is if it is his AI in charge. If it is the android, he'll just run up to him and chuck random useful parts at him and then leave.

If ghost Higari is mostly present, he may go up and ask for a hug.

Over time, Ecto has learnt what this is and is slowly warming up to it, after being incredibly sad and defensive at first.

Higaari's "off-switch" is just Ecto.

Okay, oh boy, here we go:

Shinya:

Shinya was a lead scientist. He was known for making some of the smartest and strongest AI. He developed medical AI and androids.

His work unintentionally and unknowingly went to the development of the corruptions. He didn't know this at all.

He loved Tsunagu. But they couldn't be together because of work, though it was mostly on Tsunagu's side. He didn't understand this, but accepted it as it was.

One day, he feels feverish. He collapses at work.

Everyone is concerned, but he simply brushes it off and gets sent home to rest. He is certain that it is just a fever.

Tsunagu instantly comes to take care of him and the few days of fever turns into a few weeks, Tsunagu begs him to go see a doctor and eventually he does.

He finds out that he is terminally ill, and that his body is slowly shutting down on him.

He doesn't tell anyone and goes back to work. That is until he passes out again and this time, Tsunagu takes him home and they kinda argue a little until the truth comes out and Shinya just knows that everything gets sadder from then.

He gradually breaks the news to everyone and starts completing his personal AI, finishing it and perfecting it.

Tsunagu takes constant care of him since he has no immediate family, and they have their bittersweet moments. Multiple already known confessions, wishes that they could've at least been together through life and not just because of a looming death.

One day, however, Tsunagu doesn't come. Shinya gets a call from him. He is saying words that are so final and Shinya is panicking, knowing what he is doing, begging him not to.

Shinya drags himself out of bed rest, physically clawing his way to the door... but passes out before he can even leave his house.

When he wakes up, he cries and receives the news that Tsunagu had in fact killed himself for unknown reasons, leaving him a final note as his goodbye.

This grief plummets Shinya's health even further.

His final creation was a personal commission that he had chosen to make for Tsunagu's family: a replacement android of Tsunagu.

(replacement androids for grief work more as robots to help face grief and they know themselves that they aren't the original. They are for grieving purposes - but Shinya made a proper Android out of his own grief)

He creates the most intelligent and strong AI, integrating all of who he knew Tsunagu to be -and also Tsunagu's own AI drive- and he crafted the android using the image of how he saw him. which is why the android has all of his best features.

Unfortunately, Shinya passed away before he could finish the last finishing touches. Tsunagu's left eye, which was covered by his hair by the family because they didn't want to change any of Shinya's work.

Shinya died holding Android!Tsunagu's head, knowing he couldn't finish it and slipping away with the knowledge it was incomplete.

Tsunagu:

Tsunagu was one of the main designers for the androids and worked closely with Shinya. (the smartest AI + the strongest androids = good match)

However, he was entirely tied up in the Commission's doings and worked for them, not being able to leave or say anything.

He loved Shinya. He refused to be in a relationship because he knew that his work would put him in danger, and he couldn't risk that.

So when it turned out that Shinya was already dying, he felt guilty, as if he had stopped them from being together and making the most of it while he still lived.

He struggled with his mental health and the fact that he had to face scientists being killed and experimented on and corruptions being created, did not help.

He lived with his sister temporarily and had a very close relationship with his niece. He loved her to bits and she loved playing hide and seek with him.

She was a happy little ray of sunshine in his dark little world, and Shinya was the stars.

He tried to spend as much time as he could, with them, knowing that he was most likely at the end of his own life too (by the hands of the commission)

One day, everything got too much -paranoia, depression, etc- and he decided to take his own life.

He left messages and phoned Shinya as the last person he wanted to hear from, and he destroyed his phone, took the step, and died.

He gave Shinya access to his AI archive so that the commission couldn't get to it before he did.

Android!Tsunagu gets brought to life and resumes the life at the family's house. Helping settle the grief and also learning things himself as a sentient Android. (this was accidental. Shinya managed to achieve an almost fully sentient robot without corruption and it was bc of grief)

He played with his niece and instantly feels familiar with her. (ghosty stuff also)

But corruption reaches him and he lashes out one night, killing the family that once belonged to the original version of himself.

But he couldn't harm the niece. She managed to call authorities and had him taken to the warehouse, where he begins his new life as a corruption :)

Extra:

Both Shinya and Tsunagu's ghosts merged and attached themselves to their own AIs, creating a further sense of sentience within them.

This is also what makes them click immediately and get on so well as corruptions.

Tsunagu accidentally electrocuted himself with cables during his death, leading him to his cable-like corruption.

Shinya dealt with the whole "mind too big, body not strong enough" thing in life and the same thing applies in corruption.

His AI (when corrupted) chose a random android and bonded to it. But this figure is weak and breaks easily.

This is why he's so obsessed with tearing himself apart and giving himself upgrades.

When Shinya was ill, Tsunagu would read him any of the good feedback he had gotten from his AI work. He also made sure Shinya cleaned up and stayed cleanly shaven.

Android!Tsunagu cannot remember the reasons behind the corruptions during the day, and cannot express it at night. This is due to the whole "don't tell anyone, if they find out, they will get hurt" thing.

Shinya's "off-switch" is either a shiny distraction, or being poked in the center of his back.

This is because, in life, Tsunagu always used to poke him in the back when he walked past.

Tsunagu's is a bonk to the head because a) his important stuff is in there

and b), Shinya used to flick him in the forehead whenever they were talking and he lost focus.

They may not have gotten to be together in life, but hey. Now they can be gay haunted horror robots together.

This is an introduction about me which was supposed to be short but my talkactive ass has been wanting to overshare things lately so here we go..🐝

🌻 My name is Aurora and this is not my birth name but just my English nickname.

🌻 I'm from Myanmar (Burma) and it's situated in South East Asia and it is surrounded by Thailand, Laos, China, India and Bangladesh.

🌻 I'm half Burmese and half Chinese but I can only speak Burmese and English.

🌻 I am about to be a medical student in a few months because our course is not going to be started yet till about December.

🌻 My personality type is INFJ-T.

🌻 I am a Buddhist (Theravada).

🌻 I started to learn astrology in August 2021, so it's only been a year. I love astrology so much because it gives me insights about who I actually am and it motivates me in some type of way and I can also know more about people by looking at their natal charts lol 😂 and it gives me happiness overall.

🌻 I don't like any sports but I played Karate in the past. I also rarely move except the times I do workouts which are also very inconsistent.

I also love to read about sirens, mermaids, unicorns, fairies, elves and other mystical mysterious creatures. I am also fond of reading the articles about life cycle, reincarnation and a collection of "what if" questions. I love to read about manifestation, spirituality, subliminals and astral projection things. To be honest, I love reading about almost everything unless it's too boring and ordinary.

🌻 I would love LOVE to learn tarot but my mental stability is saying a big NO and my mom won't also let me buy a tarot deck too even if I'm willing to strengthen my intuition and pay for the deck. I also love to collect crystals but I don't have one yet.

🌻 I am a pinterest whore and I stay very low key on social media apps because of some reasons. I hate tiktok because of its bad influence on people with those dangerous trends (sorry tiktok lovers 🥺) and my favourite apps are of course pinterest and youtube.

🌻 My current favourite series is Baby (Italian) and my current favourite songs are Cola by Lana Del Rey, Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper and Sugar Daddy by Qveen Herby.

🌻 I love Marilyn Monroe and Megan Fox. They two are literally my idols (not an idol but I just want to be their friend which is really weird). I have a special love for Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Lana Del Rey, Melanie Martinez and Grimes. I also would love to be friends with Grimes because she has so many interesting things to share in my opinion. 😹💕

🌻 My favourite aesthetic is Fairycore. I love Hippie outfits. I also love 50s hollywood vibes because they give me nostalgia.

Hahah I can just imagine Morpheus hating the live action Cinderella and Grace’s little crush on Richard Madden. Would he recreate a scene in a dream for Grace and do his best to prove just how inferior Richard Madden is to Dream of the Endless.

I wonder how Morpheus (and Hob) would feel about adaptations of Shakespeare’s works? I feel Hob might be a little disgruntled that Shakespeare is still drawing Dream’s attention…

I am professionally and personally biased, but I am so keen for any potential Lucienne content to come!

I have a really fluffy mental image (related to when Morpheus, Grace and Hob have kids) of Lucienne coming to do a census of the Dreaming and adding their child’s name to the book. And yesssss to Hob with a sword. That is a need.

Mm I would be interested to know Hob’s thoughts on global travel and his transport preferences. I feel like he may not be a huge fan of planes in general?

The bring your immortal/famous/powerful/rich/inhuman!Significant Other to the work party/reunion/function etc is one of my absolute favourite tropes.

Absolutely love the thought of everyone expecting Grace to show up with Hob, but then arrives with this incredibly stunning (not that Hob isn’t, but in a different way) mystery man with So. Much. Presence.

And the conversations that could be had!

I would love to see him meet Grace’s mum too. Would they tell her the truth of their situation do you think?

Mmm I wish there were scented candles for Morpheus and Hob. That description of each of them sounds amazing. And I like those subtle, but otherworldly elements that make Morpheus that little bit odd in peoples subconscious.

Hahah I can just imagine Lucienne coming across the three or two of them getting a little cosy in the library, just raising an eyebrow and Morpheus booking them out of there straight away. I love that hooking up in a library is on Grace’s to do list though.

Morpheus likes being able to give Hob and Grace anything they want, including any and all fantasies they might have, because it’s one of his favorite ways to show love: providing, and being able to give. Forget not being like other girls, Grace IS like them, she wants to be a princess and the most beautiful young woman in the village and a mermaid and a fairy and the list goes on, because what it all boils down to is this: Grace wants to be wanted and she wants to be chosen and Morpheus is always, always down to show her that yes, he will choose her, because he loves her, because he wants her. It’s not so much an insecurity, because Grace does feel very secure in their relationship, so much as it’s just something she likes and that feels good, and, much like Hob, Grace isn’t in the habit of denying herself the things she wants when she knows there’s a reasonable chance of getting them.

All of that to say: Morpheus has just been waiting for the chance to give her a full princess dress and a ballroom full of dreams and nightmares. He’s not much of one for a party himself, but to give Grace something she wants? He’ll make an exception.

I have so many thoughts about Hob and Shakespeare, particularly with regards to adaptation, so let’s throw the cut in here:

Hob is maybe still just the tiniest bit put out by Shaxbeard over how the 1589 meeting ended, but he’s a big enough man to privately own up to having seen as many of his shows as he feasibly could. It starts out as a sort of morbid curiosity, of trying to see the appeal, and after awhile…he can’t explain it, really. All of this to say is that while on a personal level he still can’t stand the man, he can admit that he did produce some notable plays.

What this means in practice is that, although Hob will rail about there being other, very talented playwrights being overshadowed by an upstart, it also means that he can’t stand anti-Stratfordians, especially when it starts to smack of classism. He also isn’t terribly fond of a lot of Shakespeare adaptations, not because he dislikes Shakespeare, but because the adaptations seem to be fighting the meter and verse instead of leaning into it and working with it, or doing away with it entirely.

Grace removes herself from any situation that would require her to watch a Shakespeare adaptation with both of them (it’s for the best. Smart woman).

I also realized I totally forgot to answer about Grace’s workplace rival last time! That’s what I get for answering on mobile…His name is Dr. Ward, and he’s her nemesis primarily because he hasn’t updated his scholarship (or his view of the world) since the 70s. But he’s well entrenched in the department now, and they can’t get rid of him, no matter how many casually misogynistic remarks leave him. The worst part is, it isn’t even focused or targeted or even really truly intentional; he’s just that coworker that we’ve all had that’s stuck in their ways and just a bit of a pain to boot. It would be fine if they didn’t work in the same field and if Grace hadn’t directly refuted some of his interpretations in her own publications, but because she’s younger than him and because she’s a woman, he has a tendency to be very patronizing in conversation with her. He’s only ever been mentioned once or twice as a throwaway line, but he’s there, and she just loathes him as much as she does anybody.

My heart is just exploding over Lucienne adding their child to the census, that is adorable and I am so soft for it!

Hob seems like he would tolerate planes and see the necessity of them, and he can appreciate their innovation…but that doesn’t mean he has to like them, and it doesn’t mean that he won’t choose alternate means of travel if given the opportunity. Give him boats, give him trains, give him planes as the very last resort.

I’m currently wrestling with what to do about Grace’s mum! This wouldn’t make it into the main fic, but she’s there, she exists, she’s been mentioned. I’m torn between thinking that Grace absolutely would want to tell her, she’d want her to know, and thinking that Grace would hesitate because of the burden it would place on her mother. It would disrupt so much of her life and her worldview and what she knows to be true, but Grace also can’t deny that she and Hob aren’t aging, and someday, her mum is going to notice that. I think one possibility here is Morpheus stepping in as Shaper of Forms. How difficult would it be, really, for him to make Hob and Grace appear older in her mum’s eyes? To their own eyes, even? Is the kinder thing to let her mum see what she expects to see? I do think Grace pushes hard for telling her mum about their relationship. It’s unconventional but she loves them both and she doesn’t want to lie about that, so I do think that eventually comes out!

Lucienne is the closest thing Morpheus has to a best friend, he’s not risking that just to fool around in the library, bless him. He can make another library, a decoy if you will, to do that in. He also probably respects Lucienne too much. She does so much for the Dreaming, the least he can do is not make out in her space. He just struggles not to be close to Hob and Grace, and if they have to remove themselves to their private rooms, well…at least they can continue uninterrupted there!

I love thinking about all the what ifs and future scenarios; they have all the time in the world, there’s so much that they can get up to together!

8. What do you like most about your own work?

...I feel like the thing I get complimented on most is the colors, but tbh? i like how ..flexible? I am sometimes. like I feel pretty good saying I can switch up my style pretty drastically when I feel like it, which is a nice thing to be able to do. (I owe it to yrs of trying to imitate very specific anime styles LMAO)

...this is gonna sound SO conceited but I had a hard time picking bc I liked a lot of drawings from last year (which is funny considering I dont think I did that many compared to other years...)

i kind of want to say one from my ekleipsis illustration series just bc they are SO different from my regular cutesty style, it was FUN doing smth so out of my comfort zone!

like, whos style is this? certainly not my Usual, does not feel like a ME drawing but thats kinda why I liked it a lot...felt like I was proving a point to myself 😭 all of them in that series are kinda like this bc the story had borderline horror fantasy elements lol

24. How do you deal with artblock?

it Depends. the thing abt art block is that it happens for different reasons (at least in my case) and its easier to fix when i know WHY its happening. dont feel like working on a comm? thats a self-discipline issue, gotta prioritize it, its a job I am being paid for, so Gotta do those. (even if usually fun, art block has been known to happen w them before lol) not liking a drawing and getting frustrated so I dont wanna keep working on it? skill issue or lacking technical knowledge probably, time to dig for refs or do studies. bored of looking at the current drawing? well now the issue is I Need to figure out how to make it more interesting, or go work on smth else for a while. and honestly a lot of the time it personally helps me a lot to just...step away from art for a bit. maybe a few weeks or even months before...during that time I focus on other art forms (like, I'll not draw but write or craft or smth) OR just try to find new artists, and sit and analyze THEIR work. what do I like abt their styles? what makes it work? i find it helps me appreciate my own art more when I love other ppls, esp when I see speedpaints or smth and can appreciate their processes too ^_^ and having fresh eyes after a while of not drawing is...nice? refreshing...weirdly enough lol.

While playing my Melly WoL I'm thinking hard about her story, both the original novels I've written 1000 drafts of since I was 12, and how to wrangle the basic facts into her being a WoL...

She's a mermaid princess (able to walk on land with ease and eventually choice of transformation), because that's always been a part of her story one way or another, though if I ever manage to write far enough to get there I will have to not call it Atlantis like I did in the 12 year old me's drafts. Ugh, original names? And thankfully we do have a whole bunch of lore about undersea auri folks living in their bubbles and even having royalty for this OC WoL business. So she and Kurenai are already set up to be cousins with a pleasant if slightly stiff and formal relationship. You know, forced to socialise at events. Never really understood each other even if they also are the most alike of any of their peoples, which can really foster misunderstanding and confusion MORE than not getting someone at all...

In the stories she has a fail-wizard bestie who to be perfectly honest Galvin is already somewhat like because I have a stock rota of characters I put in all my stories, as we all do, so I guess if I'm committing to Melly being defined enough as a WoL character she can exist in Galvinverse, as his really prickly, exhausted bestie. Maybe this is what Galvin has been missing all this time. Maybe we can fix him.

Ardbert most fits her love interest in terms of personality even if he's a sword guy not an axe guy (MELLY is the Axe Guy in this relationship, it's the start and end of her personality though I am talking about character dynamics here not her other Mary Sue powers), and I'm thinking more of Alive!Ardbert than the one we interact with :P In any case, the tragedy of WoLbert shipping has been consuming me as I played through ShB over the last month.

6.4 has made me start thinking wildly while I have been zoned out doing level 34 reaper rotation in levelling roulette. So. We are able to give Themis a whole bunch of aether to keep that memory of him alive. And he owes us one on the Ardbert front. If Melly has been THAT attached to Ardbert, she's forthright enough to just tell him (also to not do that dance with Lahabrea not telling HIM what he did >:)) so Themis, knowing Melly and understanding what he personally did to her in the future, ALSO has a connection to Ardbert within her. Blah blah aetheric signatures or something. I think he could probably reach within her and draw him out and drain a bunch more of her aether into drawing out a stable Ardbert from her similar to what Athena did making their memory forms, but stronger and stable because he's still very much part of her soul but also finally free to be a guy and walk around talking to people and wear different clothes and whatever. Hold her hand :) MAYBE GROW OLD TOGETHER? In any case I'm looking forward to that for her.

Melly also fits really perfectly into FFXIV because her story is set in a unstably high fantasy world (i.e. lots of modern elements bleed in despite the overall surrounds, creatures, magic etc being high fantasy). She can wear jeans and fight dragons in both. But it's also got a ton of city states people can be rulers of as well, and since her basis has always been in playing with all the big fantasy tropes there's so much OTT drama over things, I've decided this is the perfect reason to crack out my old favourite: Estinien as the initially or perpetually unknowing true heir to the throne of Ishgard, who should NEVER actually be given it on account of him not wanting it and feeling quite rightly like it would be a terrible idea. Which would just make it very funny that Melly knows this about him and is doing everything in her power to prop up Aymeric in power for the sole reason of protecting Estinien from Ishgard and Ishgard from Estinien, on account of the complete brainrot that people would get in the city if even a whiff of a rumour of a long lost heir of the first Azure Dragoon and unwilling prince of Ishgard being around ever got out. I mean, he would never set foot in Dravania, Coerthas or maybe even The Black Shroud ever again just for good measure XD

... anyway just typing up some things about Melz because it's honestly hilarious that this is the one place my online presence hasn't centred entirely around her existence and I think of her daily even before I got back to levelling her as a WoL, and just playing Warrior has been enough to get me redrafting her story in the past :P
