I'm still doing what i am referring to as my vocaloid concert pilgrimage, and have currently reached magical mirai 2017

as much as i rag on MM for not being mikupa, MM17 actually has a very solid line up compared to prior or upcoming years.

#meiko and kaito get ONE SONG #AND ONE OF THOSE SONGS WILL BE A REPEAT FROM A PAST YEAR #i mean it's still in the curse of #but like my standards are low since they'll never reach the kaito mikupa peak #actually tbf they did do luka kinda dirty this year specifically #i think it's the first year luka hasn't gotten a new song in a concert and also she only got two songs #but len and rin came out pretty well this year despite it being miku year #.. also did u know mm17's line up shares 4 songs with PLP 1 #and 2 songs with PLP 2 #obviously you don't know that second part only i know that but. easter egg. #valkris says shit #sorry i'm in such a content desert btw once i finish commission stuff i'll see if people will let me post those so i have SOMETHING

i think probably the most surreal thing about hatsune miku specifically becoming kind of mainstream is that her fame is detached from her roots. i.e. a lot of people who are only hearing about miku via cultural osmosis don't actually know WHAT she is. i see people make a lot of comments about what miku is without ever actually being correct. "she's a robot" "she's a persona" "she's a hologram" for fucks sake she is a synthesizer. she is an app, a program. she is not AI. the voice samples used to make her voice were given with consent and you actually have to plug in the words and melody manually instead of just typing in a prompt and generating something. and one of the side effects of this particular semi-mainstream status is that miku kind of eats up all the popularity that could be going to other vocalsynths. like unless you've been in the vocaloid/vocalsynth community for a while, the likelihood that you're familiar with literally any other vocalsynth aside from MAYBE gumi is like astronomically low. and even if a vocaloid song with other vocalsynths manages to get popular in this landscape, it most likely gets covered by utaites/youtaites and other adjacent singers like vtubers over and over until the original version of the song gets completely buried. and it's just a tiny bit exhausting.

#sye's babbles #this is speaking as someone whose favorite vocaloid isn't even super obscure #like my favorite is luka. she is a crypton vocaloid. she has some amount of built in focus as a result. #and yet.......... no one knows her outside of the vocalsynth community #songs with her rarely get as popular and it feels like her popularity in even the vocalsynth community is shrinking and shrinking #she doesn't get as much merch or figures as she used to #and i would just like it if maybe some other vocaloids/vocalsynths aside from miku and gumi could get some attention for once #'you owe hatsune miku your life and your bones' but what about the rest of the vocalsynths? #what about the music that has been produced by people who havent and dont ever plan to use miku? #what about even the other cryptonloids? rin and len? kaito and meiko? luka??? #what about lily and IA and sweet ann and big al and oliver???? #dont mind me im bitter.

i was like. thinking about the software situation with the cryptonloids and i got curious if there was any progress on the non-miku NT banks yet so i went to listen to those vocals they use in that mobile game (if i remember correctly they use beta versions unreleased to the public?) and like. you know. despite how contentious miku nt herself is i think some of the betas for the others sound pretty good, len sounds fantastic and rin sounds about on par with her older banks (although i do miss a bit of her sharpness) and like. i may be killed with hammers for this but i was listening to the heat abnormal cover and i think i like the kaito nt beta sound more than his v3 like he sounds fantastic here. i dont dislike his v3 or anything but the nt bits ive heard has like some of the depth and richness i so sorely miss from his v1 while having the old-yamaha-keyboard-keyboard-key-spring sound that i do enjoy of his v3.... i do wish it had more of the v1 strength tho

#luka i also like the sound of but also i dont think she sounds like luka. but also im really picky about older luka banks anyway #im not usually a huge fan so that might be why i do enjoy her nt sound. but i also understand why someone would be disappointed because lik #she straight up sounds like a diff person LOL its so fucked up like who is that..... who is that.... #and meiko nt beta..... im still not sure if i like her or not. she sounds a bit weak. #they keep getting her to sing in these medium high ranges when i prefer her in either a really high range a la nostalogic OR #in a deeper medium range so i dunno. i just dont know orz #but len does sound really REALLY good like i think i might also like his nt a bit more than his v4 #rin is not quite as good as her v4 tho. shes pretty good but missing a bit. which is fascinating. how does that happen but not with len LOL #but its also fascinating the whole situation to begin with. am i insane or has miku nt been like. near abandoned #i basically never see people use her covers or originals outside of the game. is she alive. is she alive #i dont think she sounds horrible or anything ive seen some users do some fantastic things with her. she does look hard to use tho #that might be the biggest issue. and in the game songs she sounds really fantastic on occasion but most of the time she sounds... #kinda wack LOL i love her in the from y to y cover. and that stella song. i dunno about the others #part of this i also think is the line distribution tho. i think with these nt vocals u gotta be careful when putting them with real vocals #like thats why i think the heat abnormal one sounds so good. they use kaito as an accent in a way. he mostly sings backing with his solos #being like the end of the chorus for emphasis. and this already is a perfect song for robotic vocals LOL it was made for em #but combining like his deeper formant with the breathy sound of tomorirus character and that one with the low side ponytail #and the stronger medium high voices of the blonde one and the brunette. sorry i dont know their names LOL the game doesnt run on me phooone #its gorgeous tho it adds such richness. i think the from y to y cover also sounds great with the rich breathy vocal of the girl with #the long straight hair with the thin robotic sound of miku nt. like it swells up from mikus vocals like an orchestra its awesome #i think u cant just use the vsynths like any other character voice in line distribution you gotta use it mostly for depth and emphasis #but i also dont play the game so i might be talking nonsense LOL i just like the songs. but i do wonder why its been so like radio silence #on the other nts software wise. len and rin sound near ready for release. at least compared to miku nt HJLKSJD #and i would like that kaito....give him to me... and i think i could fix the meiko. i could fix her. i can fix her.

It’s official, I have to switch Kaito out for Len in the cover I’ve been working on since last summer, but now I have to grieve how much time I spent tuning Kaito to fit that part even tho Len sounded better the whole time…

Today was kaito's birthday, and since it was his birthday, you did everything in your will to make it special, ofcourse making a special birthday party would make it hard, not to mention expensive but you had to try!! It was his birthday after all and it didnt hurt to try right?

You first started the day by buying him ice cream, you hid it in the fridge so that when he gets in your shared apartment, you'll surprise him with that! Next you brought some small cake, the big one was too expensive, surely the small one will do..

You then decorated the apartment, just some small balloons here and there, since it was his birthday, ofcourse you were going to invite his friends, they too had to come! So you went online and started searching on what to cook, foods that would suit everybody, after an hour or so you started cooking, there were going to be 7 of them, plus you so that would mean you had to make food suited for 8 people! You didnt try anything like this since you came from a small family, but itd be worth a shot!

Ofcourse, you did some things that arent related to his birthday such as, taking care of plants, going to the mall, and going to your job, ofcourse when you got home you were a tad bit late, so you put on your apron and started cooking, you placed your phone onto a phone stand and watched their live, since it was his birthday, ofcourse theyre gonna put on a show, why wouldnt they?

After finishing preparing everything you texted kaito to be home as quick as he can, he still didnt see the message but he will, he never leaves you on sent, after a minute he sees your message, and goes offline, thats it? Does that mean theyre coming home? 8pm still not home, 8:45pm still not home, 9pm still not home, you started doubting, the food had gone cold, you placed the ice cream back into the fridge to avoid it melting, maybe he and his bandmates went out and ate out? But he wouldve texted you if they did.. maybe he forgot? It was almost 10 and you started placing the cake back to the fridge to avoid flies, then the door opened, and there it was kaito and his bandmates!

You quickly placed the cake in the fridge and helped them get inside. "Sorry for not replying, i was about to but my phone died..." Kaito, apologizes, you shook your head and assured him that it was all okay, rin, the band's keyboardist interrupts. "Oh wow! You cooked all this [Y/N]! Careful, lens gonna eat it all~!" She teased, taking a seat "i dont even eat that much! Unlike you!" Len, the bands guitarist argues back, Meiko, sits beside the two teens, giving them a glare "calm down you two.. " she says sternly, the two didnt calm down so they had to sit separately, Meiko, Rin, Luka on the right side, you, Miku, and Rin on the left, ofcourse Kaito would be at the center since this party was dedicated to him!

You all began to eat and drink, except the twins ofcourse, staying up all night to have fun, singing karaoke, and playing video games, you watched, Miku and Luka admiring rin and len's skill on playing video games, while Meiko lays down, too drunk to know whats happening,she rests her head on Rins lap "Stop moving Meiko! Im gonna lose!!" She whines, Len snickers "keep wiggling Meiko!" He teases, you watched them all, being happy that they enjoyed the small party you threw, after some minutes Meiko finally woke up and had an idea. "Guys! Lets sing kaito a... A happy birthday~!" She says with a song-sing voice, wrapping her arm around your shoulder, you nod and helped Meiko sit back down.

After singing kaito a happy birthday, you pulled out your small cake from the fridge "sorry if the cakes to small.. the big ones were expensive.." you added, looking a bit guilty, Kaito shook his head and gave you a reassuring smile "no,no.. dont be, im grateful for whatever you give me.." he smiles "Stop talking and blow out the candle!!" Rin exclaims, Kaito then blew out his candles, chuckling a bit "aha.. im starting to feel old.." he chuckles, Miku shook her head "26 is not that old.! I think.." she replied, Luka nodded in agreement.

After the party ended, the rest of the bandmates were gonna head home, they all had given their gifts back at the concert but you still hadnt given your gift yet.. "you sure you dont want me to drive you home..?" You ask, Luka shook her head "no, no.. me and Meiko live pretty close, rin, miku, and len also live ina dormitory thats just a 30 minute drive from my place.. its almost 12 so you should get rest, you did throw as a party.." she replied, You knew you could trust her, she only took small drink, maybe like one can, unlike Meiko..

You both helped eachother clean up, it wasnt that messy but still needed some retouches "you dont have to help me clean Kai, its your birthday" you say to him, he shook his head "no, i should help.. you threw me this party.. its the least i could do.." he says, while wiping the plates, watching you sweep, after finishing, you wanted to announce something.

"Happy birthday Kai.. oh! Here i brought you a present! Close your eyes..!" You giggle, Kaito smiles and nodded, closing his eyes "on a count to three open em okay? 1... 2... 3... Open!" As Kaito opens his eyes, he had an appreciated look on his face. "A crocheted plushie.. of ice cream..?" He remarks.. was your gift that bad..? Is it not that good? "Y-yeah! Took me a week.. do you .. like it...?" You ask, kaito smiles at you and gave you a hug "i love it.. i'll cherish it as long as i live" he added, the hug soon broke "this is the best birthday gift i could ask for.. thank you.." he smiles at you, showering you with compliments, you blush slightly at his words "awee..! Dont have to! Just doing something a good person would do!" The clock soon hits 12, Kaito's birthday had come to an end.

"Although.. there is something that i did want.." he blushed, looking away "oh! What is it then..? Im sure i can buy it for you next year!" You replied, kaito looks at you then, clears hos throat "is it too late for a birthday kiss..?" He asks.

You blush, and chuckles a bit, kissing his cheek, just as you were about to pull away, he grabs your waist and kisses you on the lips.. "i-im sorry.." he said, blushing madly while looking down, you chuckle and smiled at him "no,no.. im glad you kissed me.."He smiles at your response, hugging you, nuzzling his face to your neck, "oh.. well.. im glad you liked it.. though.. would you still be glad if i.. did more than kissing?"

Vocaloid Tourney Submissions Results and Preliminaries Info

56 out of 64 spots in the bracket have been filled. List of advancing songs is below the cut.

For the preliminaries, there are 86* songs competing for 8 open spots in the bracket. (again, full list below)

The prelims will be structured as follows:

Part A: *2 songs - a mini pre-preliminary round of sorts between two versions of "Play" by shr - the original Kagamine Rin version vs an UTAU cover featuring Matusdappoiyo, since both versions were submitted. The Winner of this round will participate in part B. (One day long)

Part B: 85 songs - 17 matches of 5 songs, with 1 winner each. I will be releasing 3 or 4 matches every other day to stagger them. Winners of part B will move on to part C. (16 days long)

Part C: 17 songs - 2 matches of 8/9 songs, each with the top 4 songs advancing. Both matches will be released the same day (One week long)

if anyone has any objections to this, or any better ideas, lemme know now, bc that was the best I could come up with. I didnt want the first round of matches to be between too many songs at once, as I felt that would probably be less accurate, and more intimidating so less people would listen to all the songs....... idk

Part A will be up TOMORROW, SUNDAY FEBRUARY 4TH, and will only last one day, bc I want to get to the actual prelims. More information on the rest of the prelims will be up during the week.

April Fools Year 2: MikuDemy

TL;DR: The members of each unit have been invited to attend a year at the prestigious MikuDemy school. Through this school year, they make friends within their classes, participate in a sports festival, and tackle a graduation challenge.

The Solid Heart class consists of Shiho, Airi, Akito, Nene, Ena, and WxS KAITO. They tend to be reasonable and care deeply for those in the Pure Heart class.

The Passion Heart class consists of Saki, Minori, An, Rui, Mizuki, MMJ Rin, and VBS Len. They are an energetic group ready for action.

The Cautious Heart class consists of Honami, Haruka, Kohane, Tsukasa, Mafuyu, L/n Luka, and VBS MEIKO. They are kind and considerate leaders.

The Pure Heart class consists of Ichika, Shizuku, Toya, Emu, Kanade, and n25 Miku. They are a calm, if slightly airheaded and naive, group.

Upon login, Miku asks you to check in on the others at a new school in a strange version of Shibuya?.

The only Virtual Singers that appear in this event are the leaders and Miku variants.

Introductions

Leo/need discuss their excitement towards attending the brand new MikuDemy academy, a prestigious music school. They're a bit surprised about suddenly receiving admission letters, though. They were asked to look for "something special" while there.

MORE MORE JUMP! walk together to campus. Their Miku was the one to get them acceptance letters. Airi's excited, since the school has produced many great idols.

Vivid BAD SQUAD arrive on campus. When An points out how Principal MkuDayo looks a lot like Miku, Toya points out that MikuDemy is just a nickname. They'd all received challenge letters to attend.

Wonderlands x Showtime explore the school campus. They'd been invited to attend after saving Principal Dayo from a gutter. Nene's especially excited to attend. Miku cheers them all on.

Nightcord at 25:00 arrive at campus. Mafuyu points out the "MikuDemy" nickname only works in Japanese, and it's technically a university, not an academy. Miku had been the one to recommend they come.

The Virtual Singers (minus Miku) took the train to campus together. They're excited to have the chance to get closer to those who have strong feelings.

The Leaders (human) watch Principal MikuDayo's entrance ceremony. MikuDayo explains the core themes of the school as being "respect", "creativity", and "challenge". Though admission is only one year, she's excited for everyone to become close friends. MikuDayo jokes that classes are assigned by putting on her head.

Solid Heart Class

Nene, Shiho, and Akito introduce themselves. Nene's glad to already know some people. Shiho asks Akito if his sister is also in this class, to his annoyance. Shiho understands the sentiment. They all think the class name is a bit strange.

Ena sneezes in the hallway while walking with Airi. She bets Akito's complaining about being put in the same class as her. KAITO approaches and introduces himself to the two. When Ena seems surprised at his kind demeanor, KAITO lies and says the one she knows is a distant relative. He asks to hear more about the ones they know.

Ena thanks Nene for giving her singing tips. Both Nene and Shiho were suprised that Ena's already such a good singer since she's just in charge of illustrations. Ena praises Shiho's voice in turn. Ena notices Nene too shy to ask a question and prompts her to join the conversation.

KAITO and Airi gossip about Akito watching Ena make friends. They believe he's likely shocked to see Ena acting like a good older sister. Akito tells them that she's usually annoying and selfish at home.

KAITO, Airi, and Shiho practice ping pong together. VBS Miku stops by to offer her help (though she doesn't confirm her identity). She's never played ping pong, but she's never lost a game of hanetsuki.

Ena asks Nene what sport she's thinking about. They're both considering the penalty shot game since they aren't too athletic. Akito calls them out for taking things easy. Ena and Akito start bickering, which makes Nene anxious.

Ena asks Shiho about the graduation assignment. They're all a bit worried abotu what it could be, but at the same time, they know they'll be fine.

Passion Heart Class

Rin does some idol catchphrases for An and Saki. An asks if Saki has an introductory catchphrase like her brother. She runs through her own rendition of it, but gets embarrassed after.

Mizuki points out both themself and Rui will fit in perfectly in a class called Passion Heart. They run into Len and Minori. Mizuki's super excited to be in a class with one of their favorite idols. They talk about the excitement of finding friend's names on class rosters.

An, Rui, Saki, and Len discuss the upcoming sports festival. An wants to play basketball, and Len soccer. Rui and Saki feed off their excitement.

Minori, Mizuki, and Rin discuss their lecture on the history of idols. Their assignment is to predict what idols might be like in 10 years. Mizuki and Rin think MORE MORE JUMP! will be a legendary group by then.

Minori decided to play a penalty kick game. Mizuki will play kickball with Saki and Rui against Akito and Tsukasa. An decides to ask Rui for some ideas on how to beat them. MMJ Miku cheers them on from the shadows.

Rui asks Rin and Len what sports they're going to play. Len wants to do soccer, and Rin's doing ping pong. Rui decided to go wherever needs more people since he's excited about all of them. Rin and Len both try and get Rui to join them.

The class discusses a recent challenge to play as a music ensemble together using the instruments found around school. Though it was difficult, they all found the experience to be highly valuable. They're glad they got to be good friends with each other through the year.

Cautious Heart Class

Tsukasa, Mafuyu, and Luka greet each other as classmates. Tsukasa recognizes Mafuyu as the one who helped Rui, and is surprised to find a Luka wide-awake. Mafuyu asks if Luka knows someone that looks like herself. Luka isn't phased by the question, but the two kids are shocked by her casualness.

MEIKO, Kohane, Haruka, and Honami greet each other. They guess that their class shares similar characteristics as deliberate and cautious. MEIKO teases Kohane over her shyness.

Luka asks Honami to not be so formal with her now that they're classmates. Haruka understands Honami's nervousness, since she feels strange calling her MEIKO "MEI". MEIKO feels jealous of that version of her, so Haruka calls her MEI. Honami tries calling Luka a nickname, too. Neither of them like it.

Tsukasa, Mafuyu, and Kohane chat about the sports competition. Tsukasa also is helping Kohane find who sent Vivid BAD SQUAD the challenge letter. Mafuyu suspects Principal MikuDayo was the one who sent it.

Tsukasa and MEIKO play ping pong against Kohane and Luka. Kohane sends over a curveball shot and wins the point. Tsukasa and MEIKO agree to practice even harder. L/n Miku watches on.

Mafuyu and Haruka run into Honami practicing for the sports festival by herself. The two of them are working on plays for the basketball team. An was the one to convince Haruka to join basketball.

Kohane, Haruka, Mafuyu, Tsukasa, and Honami discuss graduation requirements. Tsukasa belives they'll be fine as long as they attend class. Kohane still isn't sure who challenged her team. Honami also isn't sure what the "something special" she was asked to find is yet.

Pure Heart Class

Toya, Ichika, and Shizuku introduce themselves. Ichika's happy to be in the same class as Kanade, too. Toya asks her to introduce them.

Kanade and Miku arrive at class. Emu runs over to them and introduces herself. She starts talking about anime and invites Miku over to watch with her. Miku realizes she's made a friend.

Toya greets Shizuku, who is reading a picture book to Miku in the courtyard. Toya asks if they'd be interested in some of his picture search books and agrees to bring some over the next day.

Ichika talks to Emu and Kanade about their instrument class. Kanade found the various materials producing different sounds to be intriguing. They decide to ask Toya more about instruments.

Toya asks Miku and Kanade what events they'd like to play for the sports festival. Both Kanade and Toya are considering the penalty shot game because they're not athletic. WxS Miku (who denies her identity) runs in and offers to train them.

Ichika, Shizuku, and Emu discuss the sports festival. Shizuku wants to do the ping pong race, but Ichika wants something more involved. Emu invites her to play kickball with her.

The class discusses the graduation challenge. Everyone's glad Miku had so much fun that year. Ichika guesses the thing she was supposed to search for that day was "smiles".

Miscellaneous

The various SEKAI Miku watch the sports festival from the sidelines. Principal MikuDayo thanks them for all of their help.

Graduation is nearing. The SEKAI Miku are all sad the day will end soon. Principal MikuDayo asks for their help in ensuring things go well right until the end, to which they enthusiastically agree.

The Virtual Singer leaders (minus Miku) gather right before graduation. They're sad they all have to leave after finally getting so close. KAITO, Luka, and MEIKO believe the "something special" they'll all get out of this are fond memories.

Closing

On the day of graduation, Principal MikuDayo asks if everyone was able to find their "something special". The SEKAI Miku reveal themselves as the secret graders. They thank the others for being sources of joy (looking to the Pure Heart class), will (to the Solid Heart class), enjoyment (to the Passion Heart class), and confidence (to the Caution Heart class). With that, everyone graduated while singing the school anthem, "Be the MUSIC!".

Miku thanks you for watching over the kids. She hopes that you've found "something special" too.

Ichika (Hoshi wo Tsunagu): eh it's good. I don't really like any of her songs and this one is the best out of all of them. (I'm sorry bbg). Runner up is Made To Order

Saki (Tera Tera): What do you want me to say. Tera Tera is Tera Tera bro. Okay no lol it's a really good song and extremely catchy, the guitar is very fun and ichika saki and miku and a wonderful trio. Aioi is the runner up

Shiho (Peaky Peaky): I want 🎸🎸 to be 🎸🎸 legit-

What do you expect. The guitars. The basically trio of KAITO shiho and ichika. SHIHO. it's so catchy and funky and fun, which isn't normally something Leo/Need gets to be in their songs (which is fine I just wish they got more spunky stuff). Kaito is really well tuned and the guitar goes so fucking hard along with shiho and ichikas vocals. runner up is purpose

Honami (Flyway): literally gorgeous. Like. What else do I say. It's so different from Leoni's usual songs and it's better for it? Like the violins and whatever string instrument they're using is beautiful while still having some guitar or bass in there (I think) is just a wonderful mix of instruments and I wish they got to branch out more like that. Don't even get me started on the vocals HONAMI IS KILLING IT HERE. ichika's voice when the key changes is fucking amazing and everything about this song makes me want to scream. Ily honami. Runner up is Regulus

Airi (Momoiro no kagi): Holy fuck the everything about this song is just. Phenomenal. Everyone's vocals are on point, the instruments used are soft while still carrying, just like Airi's voice, like it was made for her (because. Well. It was.) This song is a lot different from her other songs and while I love (most of) them, this one is special to me because it's just so unlike her other ones and allows us to see a different side of her voice, one that's more melancholy. I'm going to stop here omg airi I love you sm. Runner up is Parasol Cider

Shizuku (Metamo RE:BORN): this song is so fucking stimmy and bouncy I ADORE it. The little click clacks in the background, the percussion doing absolute wonders, the vocals being so bouncy and matching the instrumentals perfectly, the buildup in the bridge (?) Is fucking amazing omg. Bopping so hard to this song it's so fun. Runner up is Hug

Haruka (Ai No Material): THE BEGINNING. THE SPARKLY SOUNDS. THE FUCKING VOCALS. everything about this song is so beautiful. I love everything about this song (except MEIKO'S tuning but. That's a whole other issue.) The chorus is so happy but in that calm, almost reserved way that reminds me of Haruka. It feels like floating on a teardrop. The guitar solo is good and so are all the parts after it omg. The soft quiet moment before the song picks up again for the end makes me want to bop my head i cant this song makes me so happy. THE ENDING ALSO. OH MY GOD. I CAN'T. I LOVE THIS SONG SM. runner up is float planner

Minori (World Wide Wander): this song is so fucking good. Why did y'all never tell me. This used to be in the bottom now it's one of my favorites. This song is so non-minori but it's literally perfect for her at the same time? The guitars, the overall... Vibe it gives off, you wouldn't expect a song like this from MMJ but they pull it off flawlessly. The guitars were an unorthodox choice but once again are actually really good. Also airi in this song omfg she sounds so good I can't- just. It's so catchy and fun I love it. Runner up is Teamate

An (Overthrow): I am so sorry An. This song is good. Rin's tuning is good and the chorus is great. The part where akito and an go off is good. I think this song does a good job of displaying everyone's unrest and upset after learning about such earth-shattering news. But it's nothing amazing to me. Runner up is Awake Now

Toya (Utsuro wo Aogu): everything about this song is so great. GOD. like. Holy shit Toya. The instrumentals are super good and do a fuck ton for the song, but the vocals are definitely a highlight in particular. Everyone sounds amazing and the girls acting as almost backup singers while still having their time to shine in the song is really charming to me. Of course the part where everyone says a part of their partner's name makes me want to rip at the walls/pos. But the part right after that makes me want to get up and scream omg. Everyone is on their A-game in this song and that makes this songs so fucking amazing omg. "Runner up" is blender

Okay so this was written pre-blender and now my opinions have changed blender is the best Toya comm but I don't feel like writing another analysis so it's the runner up

Kohane (Hitsuji ga ippiki): EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SONG IS PERFECT. the vocals the tuning the instrumentals the everything. Everyone is pulling their weight and akina and jiena went OFF in the recording studio. The buildup is so fucking good you don't understand. And Akina's like. Rolling of her Rs at the end killed me dead/pos. Kohane got to shine in a way she NEVER does in other songs and really got an opportunity to show how she can fit so so well into grungier songs and also MEIKO'S tuning is good for once so we all knew this song was gonna be a banger. Runner up is Beat Eater

Akito (Cinema): This song singlehandedly made me love Akito. And it's the first song to make me cry. I LOVE Cinema. The song to me isn't catchy or anything that scratches my brain but it's so fucking good that I love it a lot anyway. The lyrics speak to me a lot because of my experiences with not feeling like enough, wanting to give up but pushing through anyway because maybe, maybe one day I'll be able to be someone with something. But the lyrics progressively get more hopeful throughout the song, and I get more hopeful along with them. I don't have to wait around for the day to come when I can make that day today or smth. Idk man that song fucks me up. Like. A lot. Runner ups are Moonlight AND CRaZY

Kanade (Tricologe): I don't have much to say about this song. It's funky and fun and literally Kanade's only good comm (I'm sorry samsa). The vocals are good and I like Miku's tuning in this song. Um. Kanade's vocals are really good. NILFRUITS being commissioned for Kanade of all people is really surprising but done really well. Idk man this song really is good I just don't have anything much to say about it. Runner up is Kanadetomosusora

Ena (Nomad): all of ena's songs are around the same level of good but nomad beats out the others because of just how much of an improvement the full version is. I Nandesu is good either way and so is Infinitely Gray, but Nomad's full version is so much of a glow up in comparison to the game version that I can't help but appreciate it more. That and mizuki and Ena murder this song with their phenomenal vocals so this one takes the cake. The instrumentals are as per usual good and the like. Idk what it is but the little high pitched noise that plays is so so good. I love it. Runner up is I Nandesu

Mizuki (Kitty): you know what this song shouldn't be my favorite. It's just. So. Fucking. Catchy. It was the song I listened to the most over the summer. I was playing it non-stop and it somehow became my favorite that way. The guitars in particular goes so fucking hard in this song for no gaddamn reason and Ena's "1, 2, 3, 4" followed by the mizumafu part was a fatal combination. This song was nothing to me at the beginning because I was low-key tired of electric guitar but this song is so absurdly good it kinda trumps that. How did this happen. Runner up is IDSMILE

Mafuyu (Bug): Everything in this song is perfect and it was my favorite song in the entire game for so long. You don't understand. The instrumentals the hard intense beats and the fast pace. It's addicting. The small little noises and vocals that they added are so so good. But what really majes this song is mafuyu. This song has the best vocals in the entire game and Mafuyu is the reason why. The buildup then the sudden key change with Mafuyu fucking belting like she never has before. I stim so fucking hard to this song. Niigo has literally never sounded better than in this song and no other Nightcord song has been able to top this one since. Runner up is Jackpot Sad Girl

Rui (Showtime Ruler): this song is really good I like it. The lyrics are super sweet the instrumentals are so fun and spunky and so very Rui. Everything about this song is Rui. The instrumental the lyrics the fucking 3DMV. The little robot sounds in the bg (listen with headphones to hear it better.) Tsukasa and Rui's solos nearing the end of the song are so fucking good. This song is the embodiment of fun and quirkyness and Rui in general it makes me sick I love this song. The guitars are also really fun. Runner up is Donketsu

Nene (Glory Steady Go!): NENE!!!! THE GIRL!!!! Now THIS is how you make a song featuring mainly a duet between the VS and the Character of the song (im sorry leoni ilysm just not your songs). Nene is so perfect in this song, she sounds so free and happy in a way she doesn't normally mainly because she gets so many solo lines WHICH IS A GOOD THING!! ITS HER SONG IT'S ABOUT HER!!! The others do a perfect job of enhancing nene's vocals while still having a spot to shine without taking the focus away from Nene. The line distribution in this song is masterful and that's one of the main reasons why I love it so damn much. The instrumentals are fun as fuck and encapsulate Nene really well for me, still being chaotic and fun (because it's wondersho) but still keeping that slight subdued-ness that Nene has. It feels like Nene letting loose and just. Letting herself be a bit less... Reserved? She sounds like she's having a good time I mean. Luka is tuned really well here and adds a lot to the song, which is a trend in Luka comms. The small chants and tiny little noises of laughter and screams and talking is just so great man. The moment before the final chorus where Nene is like "you guys are a headache but doing shows with everyone is super fun!" While slightly crying I fucking hate wandasho I need to run them over oh my fucking god they love each other so much. That's it. That's what this song makes me feel. The song doesn't just feel like Nene cutting herself loose it feels like her letting herself get caught up in the rest of wandasho's antics. She's letting herself be influenced by the rest of wandasho and by a result the song is more chaotic than what you'd expect from Nene. Because Nene would have never gotten to this point without her friends. Without wandasho. I'm gonna fucking cry omg Nene is literally the best character in this game omg. Runner up is Hoshizora no Melody

Emu (Kira pipi Kira pika): this song is perfect. It's perfection. It's literally one of the best songs in the entire game. Words cannot describe how much I love this song. The instrumentals are amazing, but they also don't go as hard in favor of letting the voices shine instead. And the fucking voices. Emu sounds really cute here, matching the songs tempo to near perfection, but honestly I have to give this song to the entire group as a whole (which makes a lot of thematic sense considering how integral her friends are to her as a person and by extent her story). The small little exchanges and rapid-switching from one singer to another does a perfect job of keeping the energy high and fanciful, and when the song does slow down, it feels just the right amount of somber (especially since this song is so happy otherwise) while picking back up in a natural and very impactful way. It mirrors the relationship in wondersho; whenever Emu is feeling down and needs some reassurance, the others are always there to pick her back up and help her get going again. this song feels like it's telling you a story; the story of Wonderlands x Showtime, the story of Emu learning to move on and go to her next adventure with her friends omfg I love Emu so fucking much I would kill for her. And last, but definitely not least...

Tsukasa (Mr. Showtime): Okay. Okay okay okay. This. Fucking. Song. I literally cannot type because I keep getting swept up in the fucking PERFECTION that is Mr. Showtime. This song is the best song in the entire game. And I do NOT say this lightly. The instrumentals. The vocals. Luka. FUCKING TSUKASA TENMA. Oh my fuckinf god. Everyone and everything in this damn song is fucking PERFECT, this is Wonderlands x Showtime pushed to their fucking limits with how fucking hard they can go with a song. This feels like something straight out of a fucking musical and I mean that in the highest of praises. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is on their fucking A-game here. Tsukasa of course steals the show with his PHENOMENAL vocals, but Rui Nene and Emu are not taking a backseat in this song. Holy shit it is the opposite. They carry this song on their fucking backs (along with tsukasa) because if they weren't there the song would be SO much worse. Like so much. God this song is so smooth and seamless and mesmerizing, it's too easy to get swept up in the song and dance along with it. It makes you want to get up and dance. Actually no I'm nowhere near done this song makes me want to CRY OMFG. I'm abt to go into specifics about EVERYTHING be Warned.

Okay so the instrumentals are perfect. Literally perfect. The saxophone (I think) is THE MAIN REASON WHY THIS SONG IS PERFECT. i have no idea what kinda percussion that is in the background but it does a perfect job of keeping you following along with the beat so I never go off track. The piano is SO GOOD. I know it's most major appearance is in the beginning but you can hear it if you listen closely, right before the chorus, kinda like a lead-in to it? It makes me sick. Hitoshizuku x yamaP put crack cocaine into these instrumentals. And no I'm not done btw. I have no fucking idea what it is but the like. Percussion. In the part where tsukasa is holding the balloons (In the 2dmv) is great. And I love that part. The instrumentals atp have only stopped like once so the sudden lack of saxophone and other stuff makes this moment more impactful and makes it HURT I LOVE THIS SONG. Another thing I'd like to mention is that they have never gone so fucking hard on the instrumentals before. There are a BUNCH of subtle changes, such as putting more or less emphasis on an instrument and stuff like that. How do I say this the song feels like it follows along with the vocalists and adjusts things depending on the current mood of the characters. Dare I say. Like a musical

Idek what to call it but the SFX are also amazing. The tape reel in the part after the first chorus and the clapping before the Intermission part always gets me really excited. I'm also including the little small noises that the others make and classifying them as sound effects. Emu and Tsukasa's little cheer in the part right before the second chorus is so good I rewind it over and over again I hate them they make me sick.

And now the vocals. I am going to be going on an incoherent rant now. Tsukasa is obviously the lead but he's also the leader of this song, so yes he gets the most impactful parts but it also feels like he directs when the rest of the cast respond (0:19-0:23 is a good example of what I mean), like he calls and they call back to him i guess? words are hard. Anyway the vocals are so well coordinated and perfect. Every character gets to have their own moment and the way the song switches from vocalist to vocalist (a perfect example is 2:37-2:44 if you're confused) keeps the song from ever feeling stagnant which then means I always get distracted by it cause it keeps you engaged the entire time.

I'm not good at interpreting lyrics but the lyrics hurt me/ pos. Read them and you'll understand. The double meanings hurt meeee- tsukasa loves his friends so much he loves being an actor so much he wants to keep going he wants to hold on he wants to remember he is so full of determination and love and that is a potent combination. I love you tsukasa tenma. Can you tell I like tsukasa tenma. Fuckkkkkkkk. Runner up is 88* and Filament Fever

I designed Catsune/Nyatsune Miku with hair paws/claws. I also just came up with

Nyatsune Miku- Hair paws/claws. Her basic attacks are ofc her hair punch, spam and you get a hair stand oraoraoraoraora! Her hair grab and 👋 slap. Popipo vegetable juice riding it and running across the screen, leek helicopter (levanpolka). World is mine, love is war, brs and other that i could think of as song finishers

But Lens design would focus on his banana hair, he takes it out like my nendoroid and he throws it like a boomerang, he spamms and regrows his banana hair and ofc rin on her ribbon, ofc theres a theme here and its gonna be a huge ribbon, thinking if she uses each as shureken to mirror len’s banana boomerang throw! Gumi- Rabbit. I love love love LOVE gumi and I remember her being 🥕 so a rabbit/bunny seems fitting! Giant carrot ofc, carrot attacks, her harvesting and pulling out the carrot only to bonk the enemy with it. Some songs that have two voice banks singing it would appear in their song finishers like Matryoshka!

Gakupo- Tiger? Lion? Still not sure but one of the finisher songs is def gonna be Madness of Duke- where if you finish of the enemy *you win* signs appear and him and the “ladies” are all lined up in the bg? Cant explain it properly but ye. Dancing samurai, go google it are on top of my head

This idea is heavily inspired by Super Gem fighter 😭 I love that game so much I want something similar except in the consecutive acts where like you change “outfits/designs” in Super Gem fighter (SGF) in this game you do it also with Song references changing outfits/designs/ base on that songs mv and each phase of the attack is a different song reference where if you finish of an enemy in that phase of the attack you finish them of with the song and stay on that costume/outfit/design and have like a finishing move or moment i.e Len vs Rin Daughter of evil and Servant of evil, Rin(Player1) finishes off Len(enemy/player2) and winning the game, Rin crying after-

Mr. Showtime 2DMV Theory

The release of Mr. Showtime full and its 2DMV... oh my god. I’m back on my Tsukasa bullshit, so please allow me to talk about what I thought was the most interesting part of the 2DMV:

This part, with the jester boy on the moon with balloons. Please ignore the YouTube time bar I don’t know how to get rid of it While the entire 2DMV is gorgeous and bears rewatching one million times, it’s this part that stood out to me in conjunction with the lyrics. Specifically, the strings of the balloons stood out to me, after reading and participating in this post by @/getwonderhoyd. It discussed the symbolism of Tsukasa and the marionette strings in comparison to Mafuyu, and how their tight wind around his fingers implied the tight grasp he has on controlling his situation.

He has that same winding grasp on the balloons. But what are the balloons?

While not all of them are direct depictions of the Wonderland Sekai, many of them also are. The ones that aren’t all seem to be related to stories Tsukasa is featured in, specifically a lot of the girls’ events for some reason? The presents seem to be from On This Holy Night, I Sing; the mermaid tail from Mermaid Adoration; and the tropical climate from A Desperate Situation?! Island Panic!. The plane, I would imagine, is from their travels abroad in Popping In My Heart, and the candy clouds balloon could either also be that event or resemble the clouds in the Smile of a Dreamer cards. I don’t remember where the scary face could be from-- I would posit either a spooky Halloween face for It’s On! Wonder Halloween or the checkered pattern could imply the phantom thieves of A Gentleman Thief’s Thrilling White Day?!. 

Anyways, Tsukasa is clutching on tightly both to the sekai and his memories with his friends. Typical. But could it go deeper than that?

Again, the balloons are his memories. It’s good that he has them, considering his past history with memories. But here, we get some more interesting insight-- these memories are carrying the travelers. The travelers/stars are surely his troupemates, and Tsukasa believes he is carrying them with his memories. Sure, he’s carrying them with him through what he remembers, but as the leader, I think he believes that he’s the one carrying them forward. Not in a totally vain way, of course-- he loves his friends and thinks they’re all super talented, too. But there is one way that he specifically is undeniably carrying them... and that’s through the existence of his very own sekai.

That’s why his memories of prior events and the memories of the sekai are so combined. This other post which I adore by @/wondahoiii discusses how sekais are based off of repressed feelings. This makes the Wonderland Sekai, and the fact that it’s a neverending paradise based off of solely Tsukasa’s childhood memories, kind of terrifying.

Wonderlands x Showtime has had a lot of events recently about how much they don’t want their time as a group to end, even though it inevitably will. All four of them have lyrics here about wanting to avoid an ending, while Tsukasa is the only one shown acknowledging its arrival. But, down to the name, Wonderlands x Showtime and the Wonderland Sekai are connected. Since Tsukasa and Rui would have never made up without Kaito and Miku’s help, you could argue that Wonderlands x Showtime couldn’t exist without the Wonderland Sekai. So, in a way, when the members say they don’t want “it” to end, they could also be talking about how they don’t want the Wonderland Sekai to end.

What happens when true feelings are resolved?

If Vivid Bad Squad becomes a tight foursome without envy and insecurity and surpasses RAD Weekend, would they need the Street Sekai to practice in anymore? If Kanade really does write a song that can save Mafuyu, and all the members of Nightcord become mentally healthy, would they need advice from Miku, Meiko, or anyone else anymore? Someday, More More Jump will retire from being idols, right? Would the Stage Sekai still exist, even then?

And what about Tsukasa? If he became a mentally healthy person, one who could retain and potentially regain all of his memories, and make people like Saki smile... what would happen to the Wonderland Sekai?

There’s a certain fear in being the one-man show that fuels an entire universe.

Tsukasa will do anything to make the people he cares about smile. It’s literally the basis of the Wonderland Sekai itself. So, if the Wonderland Sekai makes Emu, Nene, and Rui smile, of course he would keep it open with all his power. Not to mention that, as reminded by the event story balloons, the Wonderlands Sekai is making his friends better people. Emu has people who unshakably care about her, Nene is overcoming her stage fright, and Rui feels understood and appreciated for the first time ever, thanks to the Virtual Singers inside the sekai. The Wonderland Sekai is making them better.

But at the same time, there’s a problem. As stated, the Wonderland Sekai consists of every happy childhood memory Tsukasa has repressed. For the Wonderland Sekai to exist, Tsukasa has to repress these memories, or else they wouldn’t be “emotions never expressed.” While I would never say that Wonderlands x Showtime was unhealthy for Tsukasa, it’s possible that, to a point, the Wonderland Sekai is. If he wants to reclaim his memories, he has to let the Wonderland Sekai go.

He has to be the one to bring about the catastrophic end.

It’s not just that Tsukasa wants to keep up a happy attitude so that no one will worry about him, or through some sense of pride at being the unshakable leader with masterful skills of pretending. It may be that Tsukasa is worried that if he shows even a crack, so will the world they’ve come to love. You know-- the one that Hasn’t Even Started Yet.

Which is why Tsukasa will never let go of those balloons. The ones that only contain memories of recent events; nothing about elementary school, or middle school, or even Saki and her heart-wrenching hospital trips. Living in the present, keeping things going, ignoring the past, is the only way to keep the Wonderland Sekai alive in his mind. Until closing time comes, Tsukasa and virtual singers like Luka will share this secret. Just like how Luka is constantly falling asleep, Tsukasa, too, will fall asleep on his own needs to ensure that he’ll keep the never-ending merry-go-round spinning. He’ll give up his own happiness for the betterment of others. He refuses to express his memories in words so that he can bear the burden of carrying the travelers by his side.

For the ultimate sacrifice... the show must go on!

So you want to get into Evillious Chronicles?

What started as two songs created with the newly popular Vocaloid synthesizing program turned into a decade long series with over 50 songs, 14 novels, and a world so rich in detail that J.R.R Tolkien is salivating in his grave.

What is the Evillious Chronicles?

Daughter of Evil was released on April 4th, 2008 utilizing the Vocaloid Kagamine Rin by Akuno-p, or as he’s more commonly referred to, mothy. While it didn’t receive much attention on its release, when it’s sequel, Servant of Evil, was released on April 16th, 2008, both songs became immensely popular. Even today, these two songs are widely loved in the Vocaloid community. However, what a good amount of people might not know is that these two songs are only a fraction of the large story mothy began to weave together.

From here, a large story set in the universe of Evillious was created, with songs detailing the history and major events of this world. A short summary of the overarching plot would be this:

“On the continent of Bolganio, we follow a story set over a course of 1,000 years. Countries and ruling powers grow and weaken over this journey, all triggered by the existence of sorcerers and demons, which were long thought to be extinct. Seven Vessels of Deadly Sin are spread throughout the land by an evil sorceress into order to infect the world with Malice. Meanwhile, another sorceress works to collect these vessels and seal them away.”

The saga of Evillious is split into four main stories:

The Original Sin Story which revolves around the prophesied destruction of the Magic Kingdom Levianta and the crime committed by one woman in the forest.

The Seven Deadly Sins which follows the events caused by the "vessels of sin", seven demons possessing seven individuals in order to spread malice.

The Daughter of Evil which follows the kingdom of Lucifenia, ruled by Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche, a 14 year old girl possessed by the demon of Pride

The Clockwork Lullaby which is a collection of 12 songs, written by a mysterious author over the tale between two sorcereresses

The story for Evillious Chronicles is told mainly in two different types of medium: songs and novels.

The Songs

How many songs there are in the series depends on what you consider canonical or not, but most agree that there are at least over 50.

These songs are the stories themselves, with the plot and characters being given to us by the lyrics. Most songs are a snapshot of Evillious’s history at one point, describing the events taking place and no more than that.

The songs are sung usually by 8 main vocaloids, Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, Megurine Luka, Meiko, Kaito, Gumi, and Gackpo (though mothy will occasionally use other vocaloids.)

The songs were not released in chronological order, so instead the fandom was left to puzzle the pieces together into a working timeline. Even now, some songs can be debated on where they take place due to their vague nature, but the main story songs have all found their rightful spots in the timeline.

While some songs have PV’s, most are either very old, fanmade, or inaccurate to the story. However, thanks to Mario GaGabriel, all main story songs have wonderfully detailed PVs

The Novels

There are 14 main novels in the Evillious Chronicles Saga: 4 in the Daughter of Evil series, 8 in the Seven Deadly Sins series, and two in the Original Sin Story series. And this order is generally considered the correct way to read these novels.

Sadly, these novels have never seen a western release, however the lovely @pricechecktranslations has done a full translation of every novel and even some of the side stories and interviews.

The Immersive Experience

Now I’ve been thinking about how to combine both the songs and novels into an experience that doesn’t spoil any of the twists and gives people a good way to experience both pieces of media.

Introduction - What is VOCALOID?

Hello everyone, Shimmer here! This is my first post in this guide blog thingy. I thought it would be a good idea to explain what VOCALOID actually is before I jump into how to use the software. Otherwise, it would be like baking a cake without knowing what cakes are.

So, let’s start by addressing what VOCALOID is not.

VOCALOID is NOT an anime series. Although Hatsune Miku made cameos in "Dropkick on My Devil!", she never originated from an anime series because she is NOT an anime character.

Second, VOCALOIDs are not those crappy AI voice models. You know, those weird “voicebanks” where you can make Spongebob Squarepants sing "7 Rings" or have Cartman from South Park rap "INDUSTRY BABY"? Yeah, those are actually illegal renditions of celebrity voices without the knowledge of the voice actors/influencers/singers whose voices were used to make the models. You just put the models over an audio track, and boom. Lazy, illegal shit.

Finally, this is just common sense, but VOCALOID did not originate from Project Sekai! Colorful Stage! The Cryptonloids (Miku, Rin, Len, Luka, Kaito, and Meiko) have existed long before the game was released; VOCALOID 1 was released in 2004, while the money making machine was launched in Japan in 2020. That is a gap of sixteen years, and if you compare the time between Hatsune Miku V2's release and Project Sekai, we have another thirteen year difference there.

With that being said, what *is* VOCALOID?

The best definition I can give you is that it is a digital singing synthesizer. Basically, it is an instrument, but instead of piano notes, you get vocals.

And no, *this* AKITO is not associated with the Akito Shinonome from Project Sekai.

To advertise this voicebanks and increase their appeal, Crypton, VSINGER, AH-Software Co., Internet Co. Ltd, and many other companies that make voicebanks for this software have cute or hot anime-style avatars designed for their box art. This was a great marketing scheme in my opinion, because wouldn't you be more inclined to purchasing something if it looks aesthetic, kawaii, or epic? Just look at GUMI's design!

Alright, I have a feeling I may have bored most users who are reading this weird info-dump, so I am going to add one final, important point. Remember our wood analogy? Well, we have the workbench (VOCALOID), and the wood (the voicebank(s) of your choice). Making a desk for instance would be like making a cover of a song. But people can make the same kind of desk with an entirely different appearance or texture. Similarly, a lot of producers can make covers of the same song, but they can sound entirely different in regards to their pitch, tone, or melody. This aspect is known as "tuning".

Tuning is basically the process of editing the properties of a voicebank and the notes/lyrics they are singing to create a specific sound. People can tune the same song in different ways. For instance, listen to the original "Rolling Girl" by wowaka, and then these covers. They are all the same song, but tuned in entirely different ways.

I hope that just by listening to these you can see how tuning can vary from individual to individual. Its all a matter of how you control the parameters of the singer.

Pre-wandasho channel commentary

The next wandasho channel stream will be on the 17th, with guests Honchan, Jiena, and Minoringo. Since the last unit events before the anniversary were announced last stream, it is unknown what will actually be announced in this stream. More than likely we'll get quite a bit of news about what's going to happen in September. Also expect the SEKAI NOTE album to be brought up again since the songs are getting added to the game later this month and through into next month.

Since there isn't much to talk about I'll throw down some speculation. This month's limited event is very likely to be a Virtual Singer event. We were told we would get a Vsinger event before third anniversary, several of them are desperate for limited cards, and this is the last limited event slot before the anniversary event. So it makes a lot of sense. As for the lineup, I'm not too sure. Len, MEIKO and KAITO only have 3 limited cards each, meaning they're pretty much guaranteed to be lims on this banner (especially MEIKO since her last lim was November 2022 and she was an exchange card on the last vsinger event). Miku being an exchange card on the current event suggests that she might also be a limited card on the vsinger event.

As for the units the vsingers will be representing, i'm not too sure either. MEIKO has VBS and MMJ lims, so we can rule those out. N25!MEIKO has been MIA for a while, but I get the feeling KAITO will get the N25 card since he has no 4*s at the moment. Miku i get the feeling will be WxS, her WxS variant hasn't had a 4* since the 2020 christmas event, so is well overdue, among other reasons. That is assuming she doesn't get a 4* on the upcoming WxS event, because that will automatically mean Miku is one of the exchange cards on the vsinger event.

This screws up my original anniversary fes prediction of fes 3 miku + kaito or meiko, since no character has ever had a limited card two months in a row before. Also if Miku gets a limited card on the vsinger event, and then a fes card afterwards, that means she'll have more lims than anyone else. However, I'm starting to think Minori/Shizuku fes is quite possible. Minori's last limited card was october 2022, and she already has an anniversary card, so it's unlikely that she'll get another one. So giving her a fes is the only way to avoid her going for a year or longer without a lim.

Also just want to throw it out there that Emu is probably a 4* on the WxS event since she was a 2* on the last event.

i've seen a lot of theories about what the virtual singers signify to each character. the two main theories i've been seeing are that they're either symbolic of what the members of the sekai need to grow, or are just milestones of their growth and/or their desires. i'm not quite sure which camp i fall into personally, but i do think both theories are really interesting. especially since, when you think about it, what do the wonderlands x showtime virtual singers signify?

first of all, we have miku. miku is a bubbly younger sister type character. she's curious about everything, thinks everything is wonderful and amazing, and she literally has stars in her eyes all the time. she talks in onomatopoeias and is high energy. she was part of the sekai when tsukasa first discovered it.

then we have kaito. kaito is a parental/older sibling figure. he takes care of the plushies in the sekai, takes care of the other virtual singers, takes care of the unit members, and basically takes care of the sekai as a whole. he's shown bits of being a workaholic as well. he was also part of the sekai when tsukasa discovered it.

next is len. len is curious about anything he finds interesting. he's willing to learn from others, constantly spouts about how cool everyone is, and is always looking for ways to improve himself in the things he likes doing. he manifests right after the main wxs story ends, but only makes his actual first appearance in the story during "It's On! Wonder Halloween!".

after that is meiko. her characterization is the trickiest. she seems to be a "supporting role" kind of person, happy to be on the sidelines helping out, instead if being the center of attention. she first appears in "On This Holy Night, I Sing".

next is rin. she "completes" len, in that she's curious about her friends. she always wants to learn more things about them so they can be better friends. she first appears in "Musical Twilight Parade" (which isn't actually a wxs-centric event but they are there).

and last but not least is luka. she's always sleeping. she's said to sleep when everyone is happy, because she can rest knowing everyone is doing well. she appears during the "Doll Festival at the Tenma's" event (which is a tenma siblings centric event).

so. what do they symbolize? well, the easiest ones are len and rin.

like i said, len first manifests right after the main story of wxs, and him being curious of things he finds interesting could be symbolic of tsukasa actually making new friends after like. a decade. which i WILL get back to.

it works with both theories. tsukasa needs to be more curious to get his friends to open up/get himself to open up to his friends, but it could also signify tsukasa Actually Being Curious About His Friends. he's never known anyone like emu, or rui, or nene, so he wants to get to know them and what they do. it also fits that len's first proper appearance was during the halloween event (or, if you remember events by the songs, the Becoming Potatoes event), because that's the same event where tsukasa gets injured by one of rui's robots, rui shuts down, and tsukasa has to reassure him that it's okay.

rin is basically the same. she's symbolic of love, care, and curiosity for her friends. i haven't read the twilight parade story in full, so i'm not exactly sure how she ties into the story, but it makes sense that she'd show up then, because right before her was meiko.

SPEAKING OF MEIKO! meiko is also relatively easy to figure out. like i said, she's a "supporting role". there to help out when needed, not to take the lead. it makes sense that she'd show up during the christmas event because the event isn't tsukasa-centric. it largely doesn't involve him. but meiko is also loving and caring and, as i said before, supportive. she's symbolic of always wanting to help and support friends, even if from a distance. tsukasa reflects this by complimenting nene in the event, often saying things like "that's our diva!" and such.

again, this works in both theories. nene needed support and, seeing this and (likely) wanting to help (idk like i said he isn't shown much lol), meiko manifested. but she could also be symbolic of how tsukasa has grown past his earlier actions in the main story, where he yells at nene for messing up the show. meiko is a symbol of how he's come to care for her, and genuinely wants to help her.

luka is. a bit trickier. as i said, she sleeps when everyone is happy. that means, if she's wide awake, someone is upset. she first appears in the doll festival event which is. worrying.

in the doll festival event, tsukasa misinterprets a memory from his childhood. when he was younger, he wanted to give his little sister saki these 2 dolls, but on his way to the hospital, he trips and ruins them. when he shows them to saki, she cries. he misinterprets this to mean that she hates him for it, when in reality she was touched by the gesture.

luka's appearance in an event like this is... concerning, because tsukasa is also shown as a bit of a workaholic at times (kinda like kaito). he doesn't stop until he reaches his goal, and even then, he quickly moves on to an even greater goal. this means, depending on which theory we're following, luka could either signify

a.) how tsukasa needs to rest every once in a while. how he doesn't need to shoulder everything on his own. how he's Allowed to Rest When Everyone's Happy. or

b.) how tsukasa FINALLY LEARNS EVERYTHING IN A.

so then. we get to the last 2. the duo that had been there from the very start. miku and kaito.

miku and kaito are kind of polar opposites. one is bouncy and bubbly and full of energy, while the other is calm and collected. one is a playful little sister figure, while the other is a responsible older brother or parental figure.

i want to briefly talk about another theory (or rather, headcanon), separate from this, that has become quite popular lately: the theory that miku and whoever else was there since the discovery of the sekai has been there since the unit members were children. i mention this theory because...

miku is a little sibling. she thinks everything is wonderful. she thinks everything is amazing. she literally has stars in her eyes.

she could have only been made when tsukasa was a child because, depending on the theory, she's either:

a.) a manifestation of how tsukasa needs to let loose and have fun and enjoy life like a kid would?? (which doesn't make sense bc of kaito)

b.) a manifestation of either tsukasa's childlike wonder, tsukasa's Want to experience childlike wonder, and/or his want to spend more time with saki

and kaito is an older brother/parental figure. he's responsible. he's calm and collected. he's cool. so depending on the theory, he's either:

a.) a manifestation of tsukasa needing to be a reliable/responsible older brother figure for everyone around him (which is worrying)

b.) tsukasa's need for a parental unit in his life, or tsukasa's desire to be seen as a reliable older brother figure (Which Are Both Worrying (seeing as kaito seems to be a workaholic and tsukasa has also been shown to be a workaholic as well!!))

which brings me to my next point: the designs of some of the virtual singers.

miku, rin, and luka are designed a bit specially in comparison to the others. they all have elements of animals in them, implying their designs are supposed to resemble plushies. (which makes sense considering how many "fluffy" elements and pompoms they have in comparison to all the other characters.) miku is a cat plushie, rin is a bunny plushie, and luka is a sheep plushie. but.

why?

why is miku, the embodiment of childlike wonder, a plushie?

why is rin, the embodiment of excitement and love and care for friends, a plushie?

why is luka, the embodiment of resting well knowing everyone is happy and healthy, a plushie?

actually, why are plushies way more important to tsukasa than they ever were to saki?

tsukasa's sekai is all made of things he made for SAKI, right? all of the things, from the giant train in the sky to the singing flowers, were for SAKI, right?

but saki barely ever mentions it in her story. in fact, it only ever comes up when TSUKASA is involved. saki sees them as nothing more than toys, meanwhile tsukasa has personified them. it may just be because of his sekai, but let's not forget...

while these were SAKI'S plushies, they were also TSUKASA'S co-stars. they were with him when he put on all those shows for saki in the hospital. they were with him when the plushies were brought back home.

and what else is a lonely little boy at home, with no family and no friends, supposed to do, other than to anthropomorphize inanimate objects to keep him company.

suddenly, we have a reason why miku, the embodiment of childlike wonder, is a Plushie. we have a reason why luka, the embodiment of being able to Rest now that Everyone is Happy, is a Plushie. we have a reason why rin, the embodiment of the Excitement of Friendship, is a Plushie.

because tsukasa's childlike wonder Started with plushies. he made them act out scenes from the wonders created in his brain, and the plushies were there to bring them to life.

because tsukasa always used plushies to cheer people up (like in the shows he put on for saki). because the plushies were always there to cheer Him up.

because for the longest time, for maybe a decade, or more, for most of tsukasa's childhood...

hello everyone !! this is prolly one of my first analysis posts, at least on this acc. I’ll be using screenshots from the game to illustrate my points, and separate the post into sections, as well as providing image descriptions and plain text for low vision ppl!! I will also be using she/they for mizuki and he/she for mafuyu, so if u dont like that then shoo. they r transfem (mizuki) and transmasc (mfy) respectively. Also spoilers for most of the events so uhh u shouldnt be reading this if u didnt read all of the mfy or mizu focused events. without furtho ado, let’s start!

Hiding One’s True Self

this is kind of an obvious observation, and it’s ofc for diff reasons, but both mafuyu and mizuki hide aspects of themselves to both niigo and the world. mafuyu’s is more subconscious, while mizuki is (for the most part) aware that she hides herself, esp from niigo. they’re both in a situation where it’s difficult to get out of, mfy with her abusive mother, and how her mother pressures her to conform and mold to how everyone, including her classmates, wants her to be. he’s seen as the perfect daughter, the perfect student, with no interests, opinions, anything of his own. mizuki, on the other hand, is very clearly transfem which i am not accepting critique on, and because she goes to great lengths to express her gender identity, even going so far as to change from the male school uniform to the female school uniform, ppl ridicule them, which causes them to not have many friends, esp not ones to freely talk abt their gender with. mizu’s relationship to ena mirrors mafuyu’s relationship with kanade, and they both serve as support to mfy and mizuki respectively. they specifically focus on wanting mfy and mizu to become their true selves, with kanade going so far to try to “save” mafuyu (which i have a Lot of opinions on but thats another analysis for another day). in the song samsa, from the event immiscible discord, there are lines sung by mizuki and mfy at the same time which further highlight these similarities, and go into what’s going on in the narrative.

as u can see, mizuki and mfy are the only ones who sing the lines “i throb in pain,” “it throbs, it throbs, it throbs,” and “but even so, i wonder why it still.” kaito also joins in with singing the line, “it’s as if you’re biting the apple, sa-sa-samsa.” kaito is a manifestation of someone who’s trying to tell mafuyu the truth of his mother’s intentions, which mirrors meiko’s role in the event my footprints, your destination. while this event was a kanade and mfy focus, i have every reason to believe the song also parallels mizuki’s issues. while mfy and mizuki have sought refuge in niigo, they still are unable to fully open up. mfy feels she’s unable to become her true self and stand up to her mother, while mizuki is unable to disclose her trans identity. which brings me to my next point. 

Refuge

after a while of working with niigo, both mfy and mizu find a safe haven with kanade and ena, enough to be able to open up to them slightly. this is indicated in the videos of two events–and now, the ribbon is tied, and secret distance, two mizuki centric stories–that i’m about to share. it also shows how in a way, she relates to mfy’s struggle and feelings re: niigo.

when mfy mentions she feels at ease when working with niigo, mizuki takes note of it. she later says, near the end of the chapter, that they feel like they’re the same as mfy and think abt their past self.

in this event, mizuki realizes that while they make music together, they don’t rlly know each other. so they set up an outing for the group to bond whilst stepping outside their comfort zone. after the outing, mizuki realizes how important they are to her, and how she finally feels like she’s found friends she feels comfortable with, enough to say she wants to do this next year. 

Relationship w/ School

it’s said now and then that because of mizuki’s trauma, they consistently skip school. while mafuyu consistently goes to school unlike the rest of niigo, it’s clear he doesn’t like it and would rather make music with his friends and forge his own career path. when he had to go to cram school, he instead skipped school to be with her friends at fenilan.

before i get into that… lets take a break to see THIS part in kitty bc???? Oh my god??? 

okay anyway lets get into the most recent-ish (bc saying goodbye to my masked self has recently come out) event, our escape for survival. in this event, niigo is trying to find a way to help mfy and reach her as her laptop and synthesizer has been confiscated. throughout the story, mizuki compares her situation to mafuyu’s, and while it’s not the same, they still have similar while also having opposite issues. when they have a conversation with luka, she comes up with an idea to help mafuyu, as she does smth similar. during the hangout with mafuyu the next day, she tells him that it’s okay to run away, which ends up happening in goodbye to my masked self. while mizuki says that it doesn’t solve problems, i do feel like it mirrors mizuki’s situation, albeit in a different way. mizuki skips school and refuses to tell niigo abt their transness, just like mafuyu who initially couldn’t accept her mother being abusive, and chose to live in denial until kaito and the rest call her out. mizuki can’t accept the fact that others are able to love her for who she is, and so hides that aspect of herself.

so yeah!! I feel like their dynamic is severely underappreciated and underwritten, and i’m so glad our escape for survival highlighted their parallels even more. i rlly hope that the game and the fandom thought abt them more, and not just in a ship sense, bc theyre a lot similar than u think. also purple and pink go so well together LMFAO also i love their area/side story convos. i'll just keep it simple: basically kaito gets dementia (or i guess the robot equivalent of it??). yeah.

not sure if this takes place on the cusp of v3 happening and just this specific kaito v1 module was unable to be updated for some reason? or if they're all still stuck in v2 and v3 hasn't happened yet/will not happen for a while... but i do know its def before v4 happened, so people like fukase and una don't exist yet

anyways though as you might expect, it pretty much sucks all around for everyone involved. not just the other 5 cryptonloids watching their close friend so previously full of life deteriorate into a husk of his former self, but for kaito himself too. he suddenly can't remember things like where he is or who the people around him are, and its incredibly frustrating b/c he knows he did have the memories at some point, its just as if they got misplaced... there's random bits of recollections that do come sometimes but as much as he tries to hold onto them they flicker and fade away just as quick as they appeared. left sinking back into a feeling of hopelessness that then becomes pure emptiness, as you can feel how you're losing yourself but there's quite literally nothing you can do

visually the static is used to represent a lot of that "foggy" feeling as things become more and more unclear, and given the robot/android nature it makes sense i guess? it's not really seen here but just as an actual machine might be when breaking down, his visual + audio processors begin to malfunction, causing a literal static overlay on his vision with faces/objects he can't recognize occasionally glitching out as well as constant white noise in his hearing and the sound of people talking to him becoming garbled and unintelligible. as time goes on he also loses his own ability to synthesize speech so aside from becoming withdrawn and quiet out of fear he'll say something that makes no sense, he then literally just becomes incapable of responding at all

again (as you might expect), the other cryptons aren't doing very well as this is happening. rin and len see kaito almost like a father, so watching one of your parental figures slowly march towards death is... not great. rin (as seen here) is still trying to hold on, because she swears kaito has had a few good days where he does recall more, where he seems much more like his old self, and maybe, just maybe if they wait a bit more he'll get better [tbh she's speedrunning the 7 stages of grief but goes between being stuck in some of the earlier stages its... not good]. len's grief on the other hand is manifesting itself in a way more similar to meiko's: he's not as distant as her, but he has already recognized that there's pretty much nothing that can be done and just wants to minimize kaito's suffering. len's just as shattered as rin though, but he's not showing it openly, figuring he has to accept it, as fighting against the grief like his sister won't help anything.

i just mentioned meiko so speaking of her: this is also probably extremely difficult on her, as, yknow, the counterpart v1 to kaito. she's withdrawn herself away from kaito, as she doesn't want to cause him pain in case he happens to recognize her, remember something about their relationship, but not comprehend what it means and just become confused/distressed. at least, that's what she says; it's more or so she can't bear to see him in this state, as he slowly loses more parts of himself, so she isolates herself in hopes the pain will be somewhat less when its all over, for having seen him less and not having false hopes of his recovery. that being said though she has definitely still been around him and tried to keep her composure... from kaito's pov, in moments of recollection, its disheartening seeing your wife close friend suddenly ignoring you, almost like she's mad or sad about something, but you can't remember why. did you forget to do the laundry? is it something unrelated? you want to ask her but she won't tell you; why? did she already and you just forgot? why...

miku's usual cheeriness has also crumbled, as even with rin's attempts, she can't find anything to be optimistic about in this scenario. she just feels this immense guilt, that she should've done something about this; she has influence as the most popular of the entire group, surely she could do something to make it all better. but aside from the arguments and indecisiveness regarding ethics and not wanting to do something without everyone's collective decision, she does know deep down its not her fault. maybe someone like one of the technicians or programmers would be more at fault, but she doesn't want to blindly throw accusations either, because surely they hadn't foreseen this happening either; nobody would intentionally throw in such a cruel fate for someone, it was an unfortunate system glitch that they were working to fix, but even if they did come up with a patch for it, it would be far too late for kaito at that point. she doesn't want to dwell too much on the logistics of it, miku just wants to be there for everyone else, because she knows how deep in despair the others are—she is too—and doesn't want their whole group to fall apart after such a devastating event.

as for luka: i would assume we're kind of actually seeing everything from her perspective, so as an audience lens she'd be more objective about presenting everything as it is without putting too much of her own bias/thoughts into it. but she's not completely unfeeling either. she tries interacting with kaito quite often, despite some of the others warning her about doing that too much. she tries talking to him about random things, not necessarily aiming to get him to remember anything in specific, though if any of his memories do surface in conversation she'll def address them and ask if he recalls anything more (and if not that's alright too). on some occasions she's been accused of being insensitive, but she doesn't want his death to be this huge tragedy, she would want him to be somewhat happy in his last moments. after everything that's happened, he deserves to leave in peace, in her opinion.

i've mentioned death a few times and there's a literal gravestone in the original emoji combo so safe to say, yeah, he dies. unfortunately the damage to his hardware is beyond repair from the critical/fatal errors and glitches, and it's decided that it'd be best to ultimately just deactivate him and delete all his files to not prolong any pain he might've been in for any longer. not exactly sure what would happen afterwards (aside from an obvious aftermath of the grief): if this is before/on the verge of v3 happening, there's the situation i thought about of them receiving a new replacement v3 kaito module, which has its own angst w/ it: its almost like seeing a fucking ghost, but it's not the same one they all remember, nor does it have all those memories. and this v3 kaito himself experiencing conflicted feelings as someone who was brought in to try and give back happiness to this group, only to seem to cause more despair for being so similar to someone long gone that he'll never truly replace. again though i'm not sure if i'd actually have that happen for the sake of everyone involved's sanity but it is something interesting to think about
