I'm taking a course at mcad right now and I saw your poster for corn wizard in the animation studio and it was SO weird knowing that you have a physical presence in time and space and aren't just like a cool internet artist. I mean this in a good way btw, like it was nice knowing you took classes in the same place I'm taking classes
honestly this makes me emotional...it hasnt been that long since i graduated but i miss it dearly, especially the animation lab
just know i was drinking coffee and sweating my ass off in that room for hundreds of hours of my life. i hope the whiteboard drawings are still just as cursed

Have you seen the animated short “The Brave Locomotive” on YouTube? I’m bringing it up because the guy who made it, Andrew Chesworth, attended the exact same college Dobson went to, MCAD, and went on to be an animator at Disney in the 2010s, basically having the career Dobson always wanted, but failed to get.
I am aware of it as well as Chesworth, having seen his name once upon a time pop up at one of the first videos on youtube ever discussing Dobson, made by Foreverpandering. I am also aware of his involvement in Wreck it Ralph and Frozen, two of the last good movies made in the 2010s by Disney.
As for "The Brave Locomotive" I have watched parts of it in the beginning and the end when the little locomotive saves everyone, but sadly haven't watched it fully yet despite being less than 10 minutes long.
But what I have seen, I loved. Not only is the thing beautifully animated, you can really feel the love the guy has for old school Disney shorts seeing how the animation style and the "music" of it was very reminiscent of old shorts made by Disney in the 40s and 50s. Particularly ones like "Sleepy Hollow" or "Bongo the Bear". Shorts meant to more or less "encapsulate" a certain rural american or western image, of which some people at Disney wre very fond of.
I highly recommend people watching that thing

Blue Period Volume 1
Series: Blue Period Artist: Tsubasa Yamaguchi
First time reading this, I haven't watched the anime before yet. Already in this first volume I just feel. Excited. I can't really explain it, it's not a giddiness it's like feeling a fire being lit. Because as an artist I've definitely felt some of the same things Yatora feels.
Long time followers may know that I originally wanted to go to art school. It fell through when I was first accepted to MCAD up in Minneapolis as the relative who was going to help me set up out there backed out. I never properly applied to another art school, despite the one here in my city being quite nice, due to funding concerns... and because I got scared. With my stamina levels, and how my mental health was at the time, I was deeply concerned that diving into that field, as much as I desired it, would leave me high and dry in the end because I wouldn't have the ability to hustle myself enough to keep employed. As a disabled person, that was the biggest goal for the future for me. So I relegated it to self study as a side gig, and changed focus twice before settling into my current major.
The fire is still there though. I definitely still feel the tug now and then. This manga definitely makes me want to buckle down and do some studies to sharpen my skills, haha. GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class was informative in a Cute Girls Do Cute Things gag way, insightful and good feeling slice of life. This feels much more intense in tone while being informative, and discusses more of the intricacies of fine art as it goes. Definitely looking forward to reading the other volumes.

Hey sorry for the random ask! I saw your comment on that post about the whole “never date your peers” faux pas post (same anon from that post lol) but I actually go to the school you graduated from! And it seems to be a faux pas now? I’m a sophomore and a lot of my upperclassmen friends have said to not date anyone you go to school with since it’s such a small school. There are some couples though, they’re just really rare
Oh weird?! Me and my friends were there from 2012 - 2016 and mostly animation students, though I knew some people in comics/illustration. I started dating @brando9g pretty early into college (November of our freshman fall) and we've been together since. Tbh I had never been in a relationship before and really wanted to try it out, but it just so happened to work out pretty dang well. I don't think I could ever be with anyone who didn't value animated media as much as I do lmao
Another factor may have been that I was just in an extremely introverted group, so dating wasn't really on our radar much. I didn't know them while at school, but one of my friend's friends was an MCAD couple and they have a small child now. I think one was in illustration, unsure the other, but I keep seeing them due to the friend mentioned lol
Honestly, it might have been said once by the outgoing people I didn't hang out with, but I never heard it otherwise, especially in regards to my own relationship. I think if I had heard it more, I would've shoved myself in as an example of it not being so dire (That being said, OP is certainly right that everyone at art school has Big Problems and Brandon has seen me suicidal before. But the stuff in common is just so genuinely Weird that I don't know where else I'd ever find such people... Okay except conventions/fandom but eugh no thanks on that)
So basically, probably a combination of 'I just didn't hang out with anyone who had dating on their mind' and 'I'd guess it's said more now than a few years ago, because if I had heard it, I would've been like HMMM??' lol
And also always good to meet current MCADians. Enjoy your completely revamped animation program (if you're in it)!! I helped complain to the department head enough to change it from what it was teehee :P

Developers recommend using the latest KeyShot with Windows 8 or 10, or Windows. The size scene you can work with in either depends more on the available RAM and GPU memory than anything. One of the more experimental sculptures I made recently. It's a totem fox that travels around and offers teachings! Inspired by Native American art and wood carvings. First time making posable arms with wire too.

Another year, and another visit to Tom Garrett's Pro Prac class at MCAD! This May marks my 5th year since graduating with my BFA in Illustration (already???). Since graduating, I've learned a lot of things and my visits to his class is where I get the chance to pass on what I've learned to the students! I hope that they are able to take away some helpful tips as their finish up their time at MCAD. And speaking of finishing up, this is Tom's last year teaching at MCAD. He's been an invaluable mentor to me during and after school, and I wish him the best on his upcoming well-deserved relaxation!
