Sorry for the odd question:
Do you have a favourite book?
I do! I really like the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells- 9 times out of 10 the art I reblog is fanart of that series.
It’s about a security android that goes rogue and escapes the company that owned it with the help of the first humans to ever treat it like a person. Then it goes on adventures throughout space helping people and figuring out what to do now. It’s a very fun series with enough action to keep me engaged + an overarching story with so many cool concepts that have spawned a very imaginative fanbase lol
My favorite book of that series is Fugitive Telemetry, which is a murder mystery that highlights a lot of bot culture (one of my favorite parts of the series)
I reblog all my murderbot posts with #mbd tag or #murderbot if you’re interested in seeing more!

don't mistag fanfics
don't deliberately keep off a zesty trope tag, or mark a romantic pairing as platonic, or add a pairing that isn't actually in the story, or whatever, just to get more views
it's incredibly rude, and potentially hurtful.
i know, i know. you like what you're writing. You want more people to see it, and you think that people would like it if they just gave it a shot.
but you don't get to make that call for your readers. yes, using this technique, some might read something they otherwise wouldn't, and enjoy it. but many will be avoiding that ship/trope/etc for a reason. at best, you might just annoy them; at worst, you can accidentally trigger someone.
it's a courtesy to be as honest with your tagging as possible. it helps people avoid things they don't like, and conversely, find things they do like.
What if I genuinely forget to tag something or accidentally mistag it?
that's fine! accidents happen, we're all learning. just be willing to listen when and if someone asks you to make changes : )
What if I want the trope/pairing to remain a surprise?
then use 'authors chose not to use archive warnings'! or you could have a beginning author's note saying "hey this story/chapter gets into some intense themes, check out the ending authors note for a full list". those are good tools to preserve the surprise while letting people opt-in or out as necessary
Be nice to your fellow readers, and help keep the fanfic community a safe, fun space for everyone :3

skljkljk it feels like there are so many different ship names and new variations constantly being invented. i know every individual can use their social media how they want to… but would we perhaps be amenable to tagging murderbot ships posts with a catch-all tag like “murderbot shipping”? I prefer to filter tags than block people 😶🌫️

What scene from Murderbot Diaries plays on repeat in your head and is maybe your favorite or maybe just one of your favorites that you can't stop thinking about? (Genuine question I want to hear other people's too)
Mine is in the first book when Murderbot is confronted with vulnerability like its never experienced before because Gurathin discovered it wad rogue and everyone around it is reacting better than it ever thought possible but Gurathin is still being skeptical and pessimistic and tells everyone "It calls itself Murderbot" and Murderbot accidentally moves before it can stop itself and makes eye contact and says "That's personal"
Occasionally I just get emotional about SecUnit and it's weird relationship with names
And the line "That's personal" punches me in the gut randomly throughout the day when I think about it. Honestly, it makes me feel like I don't even have the right to use its name despite the fact it's a character and I'm a reader.

did yall know that martha wells is problematic for writing a book in first person because it means that the main character's pronouns aren't being used as frequently (a clear sign that she doesn't respect people with it/its pronouns)
