Nel 1956 il filosofo ebreo tedesco Günther Anders, marito di Hannah Arendt, pubblicò questo brano sul condizionamento e sulla anestetizzazione delle masse che sembra gettare una luce sul presente.

“Per soffocare in anticipo ogni rivolta, non bisogna essere violenti. I metodi del genere di Hitler sono superati. Basta creare un condizionamento collettivo così potente che l’idea stessa di rivolta non verrà nemmeno più alla mente degli uomini.

L’ ideale sarebbe quello di formattare gli individui fin dalla nascita limitando le loro abilità biologiche innate.

In secondo luogo, si continuerebbe il condizionamento riducendo drasticamente l’istruzione, per riportarla ad una forma di inserimento professionale. Un individuo ignorante ha solo un orizzonte di pensiero limitato e più il suo pensiero è limitato a preoccupazioni mediocri, meno può rivoltarsi.

Bisogna fare in modo che l’accesso al sapere diventi sempre più difficile e elitario. Il divario tra il popolo e la scienza, che l’informazione destinata al grande pubblico sia anestetizzata da qualsiasi contenuto sovversivo.

Niente filosofia. Anche in questo caso bisogna usare la persuasione e non la violenza diretta: si diffonderanno massicciamente, attraverso la televisione, divertimenti che adulano sempre l’emotività o l’istintivo. Affronteremo gli spiriti con ciò che è futile e giocoso. È buono, in chiacchiere e musica incessante, impedire allo spirito di pensare.

Metteremo la sessualità al primo posto degli interessi umani. Come tranquillante sociale, non c’è niente di meglio.

In generale si farà in modo di bandire la serietà dell’esistenza, di ridicolizzare tutto ciò che ha un valore elevato, di mantenere una costante apologia della leggerezza; in modo che l’euforia della pubblicità diventi lo standard della felicità umana. E il modello della libertà.

Il condizionamento produrrà così da sé tale integrazione, l’unica paura, che dovrà essere mantenuta, sarà quella di essere esclusi dal sistema e quindi di non poter più accedere alle condizioni necessarie alla felicità.

L’ uomo di massa, così prodotto, deve essere trattato come quello che è: un vitello, e deve essere monitorato come deve essere un gregge. Tutto ciò che permette di far addormentare la sua lucidità è un bene sociale, tutto ciò che metterebbe a repentaglio il suo risveglio deve essere ridicolizzato, soffocato, combattuto.

Ogni dottrina che mette in discussione il sistema deve prima essere designata come sovversiva e terrorista e coloro che la sostengono dovranno poi essere trattati come tali”.

Possible solutions to this fucking idiot ass thing

1) you can't solve this in a renegade way if you did tali's and legions quest lines in a paragon way and vice versa

2) making it so all you have to do is do both their quest lines, regardless of how you handled them, so that you have the background information about the war and why you get to influence it. If you don't do tali's questline, the quarian leaders don't listen to you and same for the geth not trusting you without legion being familiar with you

I'm sorry I'm not taking this bullshit well, it just doesn't make any sense. I didn't renegade the heretics and GENOCIDE THEM and therefore Shepard just decides not to tell admiral gell to stand down??? That's the thing that happens btw if you do get to paragon is that Shepard says "I'm Micheal Jordon. Stop it." And the quarians listen. So what the fuck does that have to do with me not killing the heretics??????????????????????????????????? If the game was like "oh you rewrote the heretics and therefore they had more forces and therefore they already finished off all the quarians before you fight the reaper on rannoch" that would be one thing. On the flip side, why would it matter if tali was exiled. You already fucking made it so that it didn't matter, right like if she was exiled she's not like a refugee on the citadel or anything, she's STILL FUCKING WORKING WITH THE QUARIANS. ON THEIR SHIPS. NOT EXILED. I can see it mattering again if she was exiled and therefore just not there to back you up against gell and you tried to paragon but couldn't because no one is supporting you telling gell to stop, but no she'd be there and Shepard would just NOT SAY ANYTHING. this is so much idiotic fucking bullshit that I would have to REPLAY both the second and the third game to change this one fucking thing towards the end, especially coming from the game that was like "oh did you kill the rachni queen? Well we're gonna humpty Dumpty her back together because FUCK YOU"

Again, I'm okay with it if they were like "hey you were renegade in me2 so it'll be harder for you to paragon in me3" but the renegade paragon distinction doesn't make a difference in this game!!!! It just tells you how sassy Shepard is gonna be while executing the more competent action!!! Like I could be 100% paragon but every time a decision comes up, I can still complete a task with renegade in me3

Fuck it you know what maybe I don't want to play games where my decisions matter. Maybe I want to play Kotor where at the very last second, even though I was light side the entire game I can at the end see the opportunity to be evil space lesbians with bastila and instead of having to replay THE ENTIRE GAME as dark side picking weird uncomfortable actions (like that one time I accidentally abandoned a child into slavery), I can just reload and decide to see the end where I'm an evil space lesbian, not having to wait another 30 fucking hours

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"

just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
