1. The Obituary writer from Death by Dying

Hes such an icon, normal guy and yet so so so very weird, his best friend is the angel of death, his other best friend is in his freezer and her still beating heart is on his desk, everyone thinks he’s going to kill someone one of these days based on looks alone, he has a questionable taste in fashion, hes bisexual, he has three man eating cats, he solves murders just like as a hobby, he is the most sopping wet pathetic wet cat of a man you could ever hope to meet, he is silly, what more could you possibly want from a man?

2. Jonathan Jarchivist, see prior post about this man he is so ridiculous, mf ACCIDENTALLY STARTED THE APOCALYPSE, He has been kidnapped more then princess peach, he is the eyes special little boy, hes ASEXUAL LIKE ME FRFR, he has a boyfriend who loves him very much, he likes good cows, hot singles in his area want to hunt him for sport, hes the saddest little meow meow there could possibly be.

3. Timothy stoker, managed to convey he was wearing a hawaiian shirt by voice alone, also THIS MAN IS THE ARCHIVES BRAINCELL, THE SLUTTY BISEXUAL IS THE BRAINCELL HERE WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT THE ARCHIVES, BECAUSE SASHA VERY MUCH IS NOT THE BRAINCELL SHE FOLLOWED A DEFINITELY NOT HUMAN GUY TO A RANDOM GRAVEYARD WITH VERY LITTLE FOLLOW UP AS TO WHY SHE NEEDED TO GO, AND JON DOESNT HAVE IT FOR PREVIOUSLY STATED REASONS, AND MARTIN IS MARTIN, MEANING TIM IS THE ONLY BRAINCELL HERE. Also as my boyfriend can attest, i have a thing for angry men in hawaiian shirts, i think theyre hot

4. Not technically a Guy persay, but the beloved michael distortion for having a sick ass voice and an even sicker statement, shows up and just stabs the archivist just because he can, he is literally the embodiment of gaslighting gatekeeping and girlbossing and his design is very cool really regardless of how people draw him but ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY DRAW HIM WITH LIKE SUPER DISTORTED JOINTS AND MULTIPLE FACES AND SHIT LIKE MMMMMMMMM, he gets bonus points for having excellent hair and not being a who but a what

Number five hhhh how do i pick between all of my beloved podcast guys, leaving out martin because i already screamed about Why i love Martin Knife Blackwood Already

5. Georgie Barker I think has to go here, maybe alongside helen and Melanie, i love them all for very different reasons but they are just such girlbosses, georgie just doesn’t feel fear, had an existential crisis so hard her brain stopped processing it, she is the girl ever, also shes jons ex, automatically getting her more points, she had a skin clown break into her apartment and fuck with her lights and the only reason she was upset was because it meant she had to replace all her lightbulbs, Also georgie has a podcast where she talks about ghosts, which is really funny to me, and i would absolutely listen to her podcast

Martin Knife Blackwood is a madlad. I love the duality he is a kindhearted character that wants to help but he is Also a manipulative petty bitch. He wanted to kill Oliver out of jealousy dude. He has manipulated 2 crusty & dusty old men survived many avatar encounters and he ran away to a cottage with his eye monster boyfriend. This is all to say he is one of my favorite podcast characters.

Heyo, got bored last night so here's the archive crew and their most common Spotify playlist song. Includes TMA spoilers to the end. Have fun.

Number 1. Jon

Yeah pretty basic, often viewed as the TMA anthem. Saint Bernard (Lincoln) and Wisdom (Mother Mother) were close seconds, which I think are a little more interesting for Jon's character. He really could have used more wisdom in the end.

Number 2. Martin

There are 103 Martin Blackwood playlists on Spotify. I did not go through them. This is a personal choice. It was on the few that I looked at, but mostly I just think it adds angst, what with all his mommy problems. I didn't play favorites with the rest of these tho so don't worry.

Number 3. Tim

Very sweet way to view Tim, I like it. The second most common was My Axe (Insane Clown Possy) which I think portrays his darker, angrier side. 10/10

Number 4. Sasha

For Sasha, Cloud 9 and Last Words of a Shooting Star (Mitski) tied, but i chose Cloud 9 because I'd rather not be crying right now, thanks.

Number 5. Melanie

Number 8. Daisy

Ah yes Alice "Daisy" Tonner, werewolf wife, bastard cop, overall bad person with only a few redeeming qualities and a sad backstory. Aka, my favorite. This song fits her well, and The Wolf (Saimes) was a close second.

Number 9. Gertrude

She was indeed well read in burning piles... and explosives. I expected this one to be Arsonists Lullaby (Hozier), but we all make mistakes, I suppose.

Number 10. Gerry

The boy with the most mommy problems you'll ever meet, this song is a good fit. I also think Wrecking Ball (Mother Mother) would have been good. Rip <3

favorite thing about them: BIG PROPS to mr jonny sims for getting me to like this type of character bc most of the time i get like..semi annoyed with how most ppl try to do a character like martin and MY GOD jonny did NOT have to give the archive gayboy mother trauma but he did it to kill me i know it, anyways hes a nice boy but hes still mean and funny and can stick up for himself/yell at his coworkers for being idiots and i like that when he lived in the archives he just like..walked around in his underwear and didnt even flinch having a conversation w his boss in them too, literally despite everything i do like martin blackwood and its ridiculous

random headcanon: martin grew out a mullet in s4 bc he stopped taking care of himself while in a deep depression but post 159 jon joked that it aligned with his retro aesthetic and so martin decided to keep it for a while much to jons disdain(as to spite him a bit), when he gets drinks with the crew he always gets colorful fruity drinks and everyone makes fun of him but he’s right theyre the best to get, i have already talked about martins love for his old atari system but like...yeah..he loves that thing, did a lot of sticky note poetry when he lived at the archives, he likes cooking but he is extremely mediocre at it he didnt know how to boil water until he was in his teens but he has the spirit ok(he still burns stuff frequently but he learned a lot cooking for his mom although when he started living on his own it depressed him to make food for only himself)

martin k blackwood for the character ask game?

First impression: I ah. I’ve tried to remember my first impression of Martin recently, and I don’t remember it very well for some reason. I was binging the podcast at that point and mostly at work, so there’s a LOT I don’t remember from my first listen-through. I recall thinking “Oh, honey, no” a lot, mostly at the points where he mentions he was doing his “due diligence,” but I don’t remember much else. I probably thought he sounded sweet and like that nice fellow that asked me to vote for The Magnus Archives for a long-since-finished podcast award thing. D:

Impression now: Martin is such a bitch, and I love him so mu-hu-huch. There are some...discussions to be had about his development over the course of Season 5 that I have varying stances on, but those aside, while he is largely sweet and kind, he’s also petty and thinks a bit in black and white, and I love that so much about him. He feels like a real person with idiosyncrasies and hypocrisies to call his own. (So does Jon, of course, and many of the other main characters, but I especially like how Martin’s are presented for most of the series.)

Favorite moment: I want to say this will be easier than deciding for Jon, but who the fuck am I kidding. In episode order:

1) His heart-to-heart with Jon in “Infestation” 2) “I just worry. You needed five stitches after you ‘accidentally’ stabbed yourself with the bread knife.” 3) Martin and Tim’s scenes in “Hide and Seek” and “The Librarian” 4) The end of “Contaminant”: “It’s just what he’s doing seems really dangerous. And I get that he’s worried about us. I mean, we worry about him as well,” and with Basira at the end. 5) I ALMOST FORGOT LYNNE HAMMOND. ALERT ALERT. 6) The whole beginning sequence in “Breathing Room,” when him, Melanie, and Martin are sorting through Gertrude’s storage unit 7) “Sorry, Elias. I can’t hear you. There’s a door in the way” 8) Martin talking to the tape recorders. Full stop. I don’t give a single solitary fuck about them being Webby. It’s still cute. 9) Martin talking to Daisy at the end of “Scrutiny” 10) Two words: Simon Fairchild. The “our experience of the universe has value” quote is my blog quote. 11) I can’t not include “Of course I’ll tell you if I see any good cows” 12) LISTEN. This gets glossed over by the fandom for some reason, but this exchange in “Dwelling”: Martin: “We seem safe in here, at least.” Jon: “I suppose so.” Martin: “Bit of a hideaway?” He fucking says that in A VOICE I CANNOT DESCRIBE TO YOU but it’s like. Smug/obnoxiously happy couple voice - or something. And I can’t. 13) “Recollection” kicks me in the teeth every damn time. 14) Also everything around the statement in “Moving On” 15) “Quiet” in its entirety 16) “Oh, I’m the antichrist’s plus one” and that whole scene with Melanie, really, in “Scavengers”

Idea for a story: Fffff. I don’t usually think of stories for Marto. Mmm. So far, he’s been the character I’ve been projecting my gender struggles onto, not Jon, so I suppose I really like the idea of Martin exploring his gender identity at 31/32 years old in the Highlands once he’s made it to relative safety. (I know I’ve already written something about it, but I plan to write more.) It’s really important to me to have stories of folks past their 20s exploring gender, gender presentation, sexuality, and romanticism, and Marto’s my vehicle for that. Other than that...the only other ideas I have are potential Rusty Quill Big Bang fic premises, so. I’ll just leave it at that.

Unpopular Opinion: I tend to think that Martin was written more coherently than some of the fandom thinks he was in Season 5. I have issues with his characterization in Season 5, but not as many, I don’t think, as some of the fandom. I’m not talking about the things the character says and does in the narrative, per se, but rather the continuity of his character development, to be clear.

Favorite relationship: Ha. Again, JMart, but I also enjoy reading him in S1 Archive Polycule setups, JonMarTim, and very occasionally MarTim. For some reason, I’m not nearly as much of a Martin multi-shipper as I am a Jon multi-shipper.

Favorite headcanon: that Martin is multi-spec somehow and some flavor of nonbinary - or honestly just queer, that he’s comfortable or eventually becomes comfortable blurring lines and venturing into gray territory. There’s a post on here that occasionally goes around that goes something like: Someone: “What’s your sexuality, Martin?” Martin: “I don’t know. Jon, what’s your gender today?” or something like that, and I love that fluidity for Martin as something he repurposes for himself and himself only. I also really love low-empathy autistic!Martin.
