"mare x maven is such an amazing ship and not toxic at all"
they literally try to kill each other on like five different occasions
mare emotionally and mentally manipulates maven every chance she gets
maven emotionally scarred mare so bad she gets cptsd and starts over analyzing every human interaction just so she doesn't get hurt again
mare kills maven (need I say more???)
maven locks mare up for months instead of just doing the smart thing and killing her because his obsession is so bad and overwhelmingly toxic he can't let go of a person that hates him so fucking much
mare x maven is one of the most toxic ships there is in any fandoms I'm in and it's so ridiculous that it's as popular as it is (cal and mare are pretty toxic too but it's not nearly as bad as mare x maven)

Cal should’ve been the one to kill Maven. I’m sorry but there was something that always annoyed me at the end of War Storm. I don’t know if it had something to do with Mare being the main character or whatever, but I think it would’ve been more dramatic and impactful if Cal was the one to kill his brother. If anything, he was the most impacted by Maven, considered THAT’S HIS BROTHER.

Can we get more fanfic content on Mare and Cal having kids? I wasn't satisfied with Broken Throne mentioning in passing that they had 2 kids. And the fact that they were named after Shade Barrow and Coriane Jacos?!?! Ughh, I'm crying..

Hello, I have just finished the red queen series and I am in love, I looove you and I'm looking for people to follow here that post about that. Do you have any recommandations? Thank youu have a great day!
DDDUUUDDDDEEEEE THANK YOU! 💓💓💓
Also, Welcome to the Red Queen Fandom. I'm really glad you like the series.
I would HIGHLY recommend this accounts. Cause no.1 they make good Red Queen content and no.2 they are pretty cool people.
Fanfiction:
@lilyharvord - She is one of the OC members of the fandom. If you ship Marecal, her fanfics are THE ONE. She also writes about Shade, Farley, Coriane Jacos, and more recently Coriane Barrow Calore. You'll be eating good with all her writing.
@king-maven-calore - Again, if you ship Marecal or even Mareven. You'll LOVE Annie's fanfics. Even her answers from asks are engaging.
@nymphenberger - If you love Thomaven and unique OC characters. You'll appreciate Nym's fanfics. She goes against the grain in fanfic writing with a different perspective and setting.
Fanart:
@mavenne - THEIR ART IS STUNNING. You love Maven? Mare? The Calore Bros? Art that make you go "YEESSS" to "Beautiful...why am I crying." Check them out, they make beautiful art.
Special Mention:
@ball-of-butter - They made beautiful, funny and engaing Red Queen takes.
Also, we have a Red Queen discord server. If you are interested to join. 😊
Note: I know you'll love these awesome accounts, and once again thank you and welcome to the fandom!

In the swap Au since Mare and the others are silvers instead of reds, here’s what I’ve been thinking:
(Mare’s grandparents, while not mentioned in canon, in this Au will be included because their background are needed)
(Maternal grandparents former-FORMER rulers of Norta)
• Maternal Grandmother: Silk
• Maternal Grandfather: Storm
• Paternal Grandmother: Oblivion
• Paternal Grandfather: Strongarm
• Daniel Barrow (former king): Oblivion
• Ruth Barrow (former queen): Storm
• Bree Barrow: Strongarm (inherited from paternal grandfather)
• Tramy Barrow: Oblivion
• Shade Barrow: Silk (inherited from maternal grandmother)
• Mare Barrow: Storm/Mimic mutation (her storm abilities are more intensified bc of a mutation, explaining her manipulation and creation of lightning)
• Gisa Barrow: Oblivion
Norta is the Country of Storm because of their storm lineage. They’re known for their weather obviously, and usage of lighting storms to easily produce power and technology for the nation if need be.
• Kilorn Warren: Nymph

What happened to the Barrow family while Mare was “kidnapped” by Maven? I’ve skimmed though the series and I can’t find anything 😒 Obviously they were worried about her and her absence along with Shades death must of been so traumatic. And when Mare came back it seemed like their family was a stronger unit, or were they putting up a front because they didn’t want to put anything else on Mare. Anyway I forgot what my question was in that rant, get back to me when you can!
XOXOXO
if they were putting up a front, we as readers never find out because Mare is our narrator. During Cameron's PoVs they were mentioned as active supporters of the Scarlet Guard, helping however they could, and keeping busy. We don't get to see them going through the worst of their grief.

I don’t think that anybody pays enough attention to Gisa’s story in Red Queen (Or any of the other Barrows other that Mare and Shade) .
Obviously she not the main character but, imagine having the weight if your whole family on your back at the age of like 14, then thats all gone in a span of minutes. The guilt she must have felt then. Not to mention Ruth and Daniel having to watch their kids go to a pointless war not knowing if they’ll ever see them again (one of them actually getting kidnapped for months) after Daniel had already been severely hurt from being conscripted. Like this is the most depressing family story.
I was just thinking about that one scene from Glass Sword where Mare gave Gisa that earring before she got taken and its just so sad. (i was also listening to fourth of july by sufjan stevens and that made it worse because that song is actually them)

Absolutely love your Mare Barrow art. SHE IS STUNNING! 💜💜💜⚡️
Also, just wanna know who your fave Red Queen Characters (like top 5) and which is your favorite book in the series.
Oh you’re so sweet thank you!! 🤍🥹
For my fav characters, of course Maven takes the top spot xD! That man brings me so much anxiety, grief, and excitement whenever he’s mentioned in the pages. Then, followed by Mare, Cal, Julian, and Evangeline.
It’s been years since I finished reading Red Queen so I’ve forgotten a lot of things that happened in the books already. My answer might change once I finish rereading the series, but for now it’s the first book. After all, It’s the first dive into such a fascinating world and it instantly hooked me with all my fav story concepts. That infamous plot twist also blew my mind and wrecked me so much that I wasn’t able to think of anything else for months— my poor brother had to endure all my constant ramblings about Red Queen 😂

I really enjoyed this, mostly because I LOVE dragons and there absolutely needs to be more dragons in fantasy books. Was this the greatest thing I've ever read? No. But if you like romance and dragons, and simple fantasy setting, I think you'll like it.
When I didn't think too hard about the worldbuilding, the plot itself and its holes, the history of the world, or the mechanics of this world, I liked the book better. That sounds like a bad thing to say. This book has fantasy but it doesn't really buckle down on it because it's more focused on Violet and Xaden.
What I mean is: I don't understand what the war is about or for?? Like they're stopping gryphons and their riders attacking or something?? Why?? But also there's a treaty or something??? They trade certain things but apparently that doesn't stop the war? This has been going on for 600 years but some things have happened over time like the treaty. There was a rebellion not long ago but we aren't told what for. (I know now at the end but not even a good made up reason is given???)
I don't understand how the wards work. How they're created? How they're created? The magic is described enough but like so there's ~wild magic outside the wards and only dragons can channel magic within wards and through people and it won't kill their soul or whatever. It's all a little confusing.
I don't understand the tone either. Is this kind of medieval Europe vibes? But why is the dialogue so modern?? It gives me ACOTAR vibes where its fantasy but modern feeling/writing and its palatable. I prefer my adult books to be more adult-y I suppose?
Parts of this book feel very similar to a mix of books. Quadrants where you are either Healer, Scribe, Rider, or Infantry feel almost like Divergent-y. Violet's brown hair going to silver through the length felt reminiscent of Mare Barrow and then her power literally being lightning felt like Red Queen-ish. Xaden with his dark hair and golden skin and being tall and his shadow wielding powers felt a lot like the usual love interest of any popular book right now. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed this book.
To me, I did feel like the pacing was off. The first 200 pages or so was very enjoyable, with her struggling and making friends and trying to survive and claim a dragon. But after that, this book dragged quite a bit. A lot of the scenes felt like they went on for longer than needed. Once she gets a dragon, it's mainly about Xaden and her. I was under the impression that this was meant to be a military fantasy type book, like we were going to like get battles or like discover that the leadership was hiding things. There's like... one scene where Violet and Liam find something about a outpost and the teacher doesn't say anything about it. And they are confused for the page, and then promptly nothing else happens. The way we learn about what the book mentions of the secrets the leadership is hiding and her suspecting isn't really her suspecting at all? She sees it firsthand at the VERY end. It just felt like a misdirection in the summary.
I do like Violet. Is she frustrating at times, yes, but I found her to be a good MC and to actually be smart and tough and capable. I love that the book SHOWS me she's smart, it doesn't just tell me or have her ask a million questions to be answered by the love interest. She's a good person and compassionate. The whole two dragons bonding was a little eyerolling to me but whatever. To be honest, the only annoying thing about her was her not thinking Xaden didn't care for her/love her, when she gave Dain a million chances, and at the end where she acted like everything was lies.
I do like that the book highlights her differences and while there is ableism the book always shows how terrible and shitty it is. I say differences because it mentions that she's sickly but also her joints are weak and pop out/bones break easy but it never specifically states what she suffers from. Maybe it mentioned she's chronically ill but she never shows pretty much any symptoms. She talks about being in pain too. But she's never sick in the books and her bones aren't like glass. So, it did kind of feel disingenuous with its representation to me. She does have to train to get better but everyone has to do that.
There's a big part where it mentions she can't make jumps/pull herself up because not only her disability but she's short. How short is she? Are there NO other short people who experience that problem too about the vertical ascent? Also, a big majority of the book focuses on her being unable to keep her seat on a dragon. It's mentioned MANY people fall to their death. Um?? Why not make saddles a regular thing? It's been 600 hundred years and there's no advancements???
Xaden was good, we don't really get to know him a lot. Other than Violet being immediately hot for him, that's pretty much all we get until we slowly see he's a decent and good guy. I do respect that he never tries to make choices for Violet and he treats her like she can handle herself and helps her. I really admired his loyalty to all the rebellion kids and how he feels responsible for them. It's absolutely asinine and ridiculous that people make children suffer for the actions of their parents. It honestly makes me wonder about how great the dragons REALLY are when they're marking children and going along with it.
I'm also really glad that this was never a love triangle. She shut that shit down so fast. Dain was literally the WORST friend and just so god damn awful nearly every time. And like HE KEPT SOUNDING LIKE A BROKEN RECORD about literally everything.
Big spoilers ahead
When we find out the truth that Xaden's been keeping, Violet acts like it's SUCH a huge betrayal and she hates him because he didn't trust her, etc. Let's not forget that they haven't REALLY been together together for not even 24 hours yet. Plus, like... that's SUCH a huge secret. You have to slowly really trust someone because it could endanger SO MANY PEOPLE. This isn't a "don't tell people I met with a group of other rebellion kids to help tutor them through the year" kind of small secret. This is a EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS A LIE AND YOUR FAMILY IS COMPLICIT AND PEOPLE WILL DIE IF TOLD kind of secret. I'm not saying she doesn't have a right to be angry. HOWEVER, I think she could be more "I'm angry that you didn't feel like you could trust me, but I understand how big and hard of a secret this is."
Also, we don't know for SURE if Dain did steal memory from her or not. I absolutely wouldn't put it past him to be honest and wouldn't be surprised if he did. HOWEVER. There's a mention that specifically states that command and leadership didn't expect the rebellion kids to survive and bond dragons, and states specifically that they aren't quite sure what to do with them! Xaden and his third years are the first about to graduate!! It makes more sense to me that leadership just either set them up to die because it was an easy solution. Especially since we did have that scene where Violet tells Dain to never take without permission and without asking and he's like omg I didn't ask?? And apologizes. Doesn't mean he DIDN'T DO IT I'm just throwing it out there. It's all just speculation.
I do think I'll keep reading the series whenever the next book comes out. I'm interested and I like the dragons and characters.

Hey! 🎬📺 Share ten different favorite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order 🎮🃏 Then send this to 10 people (anon or not, your choice)
This is such a cool (and difficult) ask thank you!! ❤
So I think it goes without saying Thomas Cresswell and audrey rose is on this list.
(I'm grouping people to make it easier)
Jude St. Francis from a little life. He is such a complexing character and I am always thinking of that book and his quotes especially. Often people argue that he doesn't 'get better, even the author, but to me its more complex than that. There are times when he is in a better place, where he is happy. And time when he is understandably not. His relationships and his views on them are perhaps the most intriguing for me.
Also honorable mention for a little life is Harold. I think its because I know someone in real life who reminds me so much of Harold by his unwavering kindness. (And of course wilhem is amazing too)
Another set im going to group is feyre and aelin because they are again complex. The throne of glass series was one of the first main series I read so aelin will always be special. And feyre was one of the first characters who I saw myself in. She is quite but fierce, often seen as week but when she needs to be is powerful and determined
Next is jude duarate and Julitte cai. Unhinged powerful women. Enough said. But also they are more than that. They are fiercely loyal and loving and that cuases them to distance themselves and become powerful.
Mare barrow is also a character i forget about but still love. The red queen series is another one that got me into reading and mare is just another character I love.
Libby Rhodes from the atlas six. The most annoying thing I found in that book was how the other characters, nico included, treated libbys anxiety. It felt that every single page had at least one of them pointing it out and saying it was annoying and they'd wish she'd stop. They wished she would tone it down or fix that aspect of herself otherwise she'd never reach her potential. Its was such bullshit to read. Almost made me stop reading because her anxiety is valid and natural and I just hated how she was treated.
Addie larue is also another character I related to and loved. Henry as well. Unpopular opinion maybe but I didn't like luc or the romance between Addie and luc. Forever will ship Henry and addie.
I don't really watch TV or films and can't really think of any at the moment but I hope you enjoyed this

My name is Peri Ereling. I am a Breton from High Rock, of the stuck up House Ereling. I just escaped from being executed at Helgen, where a dragon attacked and burnt down the whole city. That's karmic if you ask me. With the help of Hadvar, I was able to escape into the watchtower, retrieve weapons and armor, and escape through the secret cave tunnels to just a few miles south of the town called Riverwood. We met up with his uncle Alvor there, and filled him in on what just happened.
After giving us some supplies, Alvor sent me out to get Jarl Balgruuf for help. I got to Whiterun just before sunset. Not even ten seconds after I had the Jarl in my sights, his housecarl Irileth interrogated me for barging in, as if there wasn't an overgrown lizard with wings that could breathe fire in the mountains.
All I had to do was say "Helgen" and she let me talked to him. He gave me some armor as some weird praise, then immediately asked me to help him with his next problem: the court wizard, Farengar Secret-Fire, needs someone to go into Bleak Falls Barrow - the actual barrow I just saw the dragon fly past - to get some hunk of rock called the Dragonstone. Somehow this tablet will help him figure out why dragons are popping out of the storybooks into the real world.
I left Dragonsreach to head for the inn, but I couldn't help but notice a Redguard couple arguing near the dead-looking tree in the Wind District. Amren found out where the thieves who took his old man's sword have hidden, and Saffir thinks its a suicide mission. I offered to get it, because even if I can't get paid for it, surely there's something else he could do for me in return.
Now I'm here in the Bannered Mare, eating some chicken with cheese and a bottle of Honningbrew Mead while I write in this journal. If I'm about to be a part of this freakshow, I might as well write down what happens so my name doesn't get lost in the history books. This thing could be valuable if this whole ordeal gets as big as I think it will.
I'd rather be known for this than for being part of some high-and-mighty family of ingrates. They can all rot in Oblivion for all I care. They don't give a damn about me, just whatever I can do to "continue the revered legacy of House Ereling." I would throw up right now if I ever had to say that again.
Tomorrow, I'll sell my dead weight and head back to Riverwood to figure out the fastest way to the barrow. Hadvar will probably be off to Solitude by then, wherever the fuck that is. He mentioned the Empire could use someone like me. Imagine the wild irony of the Breton they tried to execute being the one to win their stupid war.
Something tells me things are only going to get wilder from here.

I seriously need to write this part, for fans and stans of Cal.
If Cal had to marry Iris PART 5!
They catch the spy and have Elara and Samson mentally tear him to pieces.
He's not from Norta or the Lakelanders.
Turns out Piedmont isn't exactly happy with the alliance between Norta and the Lakelands, so the spy was sent to poison one of the kings so the two sides would battle again. It would've worked, too, had it not been for Coriane Jacos's idiot son.
That's when Tibe leaves the spy to Elara and her cousin.
Now that I bring up Cal, he's in the infirmary with Maven and Iris at his side, watchung him as he sleeps. Yes, he's breathing, he's still alive, don't worry.
Tibe and Orrec walk in and ask how he's doing.
The healer said he should wake up any minute now, as he threw up a lot of the poison and has been resting for a while now.
Orrec watches Cal and admits that he was brave in taking the poison for him, and probably owes him his life.
Tibe agrees, and asks Iris and Maven how Cal's doing.
He shouldn't have because Cal wakes up and says he feels terrible, like he just learned he was swishing hydrogen peroxide in his mouth at the dentist's office(don't ask why that's so specific).
Cal tries to sit up, but Tibe and Maven tell him to stat down and not push himself.
Iris almost hugs him, because she's glad he's alive, but fights the urge to smack him for being stupid enough to willingly drink poison.
All the same, Orrec does remark that Cal knew and asks why he did it and how he knew.
He saw the spy put in the poison with his own eyes while dancing with Iris, that's how he knew. As for why, he didn't want the war to start over, not after everything that's happened between Norta and the Lakelands.
Tibe informs him about the spy and how Piedmont's reacted, so now they have that on their plates.
Cal's about to get up to see the spy, but Maven stops him, saying that he should get some rest, unless he wants to make the healer mad. He'll even chain Cal to his bed and lock him in his room, if he has to.
Tibe tells him to cut it out and tells Cal to stay and rest, so a healer can fix him, should any new symptoms arise.
They talk a little more and leave Cal to recover, though Iris stays behind, watching as Cal lies back down and fights a grunt; guess that poison hit harder than expected.
Here is their conversation:
(Neither talk. That's the whole conversation. They just stare at each other until Cal stares at the ceiling instead.)
(Just kidding😁)
(Iris glares/scowls at Cal as he coughs in his mouth, looking back at Iris with very tired eyes.)
"What were you thinking?"
"I saw the servant poison your father's wine. I couldn't let him sleep with the fishes."
(While Cal smirks at his own joke, Iris swats him on the arm, not at all amused.)
"You almost died, you fool!"
"Alright, alright, I'm sorry."
(Iris calms down and takes a breath.) "Are you feeling alright?"
(Cal, somewhat loopy, only chuckles.) "Look who's the fool now."
(Iris smacks him again.) "Is this how you always are when you almost die!? What if a healer doesn't save you next time!?"
(Cal stops trying to alleviate the situation and sees just how serious Iris is being.)
"You were really that scared?"
(Iris takes Cal's hand and holds it in hers, holding on for dear life.) "Of course I was. And I still am."
After a moment of silence between the two, Cal slides over and lets Iris lie next to him, though they're both awkward and a little uneasy because of reasons I'm not explaining.
He tells Iris not to worry because he's probably not going to do this again, though he leaves out the 'probably' to keep her from getting worked up again.
Iris warns him that he'd better not or else she'll actually end him. Cal only chuckles and remarks that she had at least 6 montha to do that and never did, so he isn't worried.
Iris still tells him to watch his back, if he ever pulls a stunt like this again.
Cal agrees and holds on to her as he drifts off, falling asleep so his body can rest.
The next morning, Cal is well enough to leave the infirmary and let everyone know he's still alive.
Formalities be damned, Iris stays by his side in case he gets sick again and needs to be healed again.
Everyone's glad he's alright, especially Tibe and Julian, who tell him he should stay in bed to get some more rest.
Maven was extremely glad his brother didn't die in the night, honestly because he really didn't want him to die, though all he says is that Cal owed him a rematch in the game they were playing the other night, the game part he leaves out, but Cal gets it anyway.
Cal asks what happened to the would-be assassina and Orrec tells him that he died, having taken himself out, so to speak, an admittedly coward's move, but an understandable one because he would've been executed and put through much worse, which is more than what he deserves.
Cal tries not to show a reaction, but admits that Piedmont's going to be pissed that their attempt not only failed, but they're just going to have to deal with the newly formed alliance between Norta and the Lakelands.
Easier said than done because the spy was a Red from that was born in Piedmont, but worked for the Scarlet Guard, who also worked in the nation of Montfort, a so-called democratic republic where Silvers and Reds live as equals.
Guess they weren't pleased with two angry kings allying together.
Tibe admits he's heard of this Montfort, but never thought it was anything more than a rumor.
Orrec politely stares that Montfort's real, and they left a letter for the Kings.
The note is extremely diplomatic, congratulating the Kings in ending a war, but asking that they end another war as well, one that's going to begin between the Silver powers of Norta and the Lakelands anf Montfort and the Scarlet Guard. The writer admits he'd rather not slip more blood, but if it ends the forced labor, poverty, and death Reds are put through generation after generation, then so be it. Who's written this note? None other than Premier Dane Davidson, the leader of Montfort.
Just to clarify, Davidson had nothing to do with the assassination attempt on Orrec, but a Lakelander with a grudge sure as hell did. He sent a spy ordered to slip Orrec the note and this Lakelander sent a spy ordered to kill Orrec and let Norta and the Lakelands tear each other apart while the Scarlet Guard watches with snacks and beverages.
Back on track, evryone wonders what to do, though Elara heavily suggests that they send a bomb to Montfort, but Maven disagrees because they don't know how strong Montfort is, and this Davidson seems docile, at least.
Tibe has just about nothing of that because these Red bastards almost killed his son.
Orrec ignores the fact Tibe didn't bring up how the attempt actually wasn't on Cal's life, but agrees with what he's saying. Regardless of who sent the assassin, they shouldn't get cozy with someone who wants them all dead. And there's always going to be a need for Red labor.
Cal, who's been quiet this whole time this whole time, speaks up. Why shouldn't they, seeing how the new alliance between Norta and the Lakelands has developed?
Everyone's quiet, even Iris, but Cal doesn't change his mind.
Thought I forgot about Mare in all this? Think again. Cal still met her and asked for her to be hired as a servant. The difference here is that Shade, who was in the Guard and near Summerton, heard that the Crown Prince was marrying the younger of the two Lakelander princesses and pulled a seriously risky move in getting his family out of Norta and into Montfort as fast as he could, including Kilorn and even going to the front for Bree and Tramy. By the time Sentinels arrived to collect Mare, she and her entire family were gone with the wind. He got in a lot of trouble for it, but it was worth it for the huge family reunion they all had.
And that's part 5! This is probably going on a hiatus for a little bit until I can come up with anything new for it, but for now just know that Cal and Iris are in love(as terrible as that is).
Sorry to any fans of this AU. I'll pick up and finish this some day, when I have an idea or two on how to end this.
I hope you guys enjoyed this, and sorry again

Y’know I think a big reason I loved (and still love) the idea of Mare and Maven together in book 1 is because it’s still so rare to see arranged marriage stories (at least from my experience) where the couple in question actually works out. And it might just be me, but there was so much potential in just the first book that it makes me so sad to know that it was never fleshed out any more than that
