Resplendent Khalis the hawk
What started off as a simple, “Oh, Sunhawk. It’s in the title. She should have a bird companion” idea quickly spiraled into naming the Blorbirb and giving him a whole backstory 🤣 The chokehold this concept has on me cannot be overstated. (Thank you @foibles-fables for being my enabling dumping ground every time I thought of something)
I will spare everyone a monologue, but the simple tale goes:
Talanah and Aloy find him injured on a hunt. Aloy wants to put him out of his misery, but Talanah insists she can nurse him back. So she does and releases him. He stays primarily wild. However, he occasionally visits the Lodge balcony or if Talanah is on a hunt he’ll show up to hang around. Sometimes when she needs a little break from Sunhawk duties, she’ll take a stroll in the Maizelands and he keeps her company 🥹
The end. Hope you enjoyed my brain rot. I probably will draw these two again in some other capacity.

Chapter 29 | Prev chapter | Next chapter Chapter Index
Zo: Alva, I wrote up those agricultural practices you wanted.
Zo: [UtaruAgriculture.pdf]
DIVINER: Oh, thanks!!
DIVINER: I hope it wasn't too much trouble!
Zo: No, it was simple enough. Though I think you will find it a little disorganized. I've never had to actually write it down before.
BoyNextDoor: What's all this about? It thought you had already learned more than enough for your people, Alva.
DIVINER: I have! I mean, I think so? I'm still looking. But this isn't about the agriculture, really, it's about comparing what the Utaru have retained or learned over the generations with what the Quen have learned from the Ancestors!
HIMBO: PEER REVIEW!
DIVINER: Not quite, but sort of! I just wanted to see exactly what the differences are!
DIVINER: We can't be sure, but I think that the Utaru are completely divorced from the Ancestors!
β: isnt everyone
β: youre all descended from the cradles no one is technically connected to before
DIVINER: Well, yes, but I mean most other cultures have clear influences from the Ancestors! The Carja developed their religion from ancient books, the Tenakth have their Visions, and the Oseram learned at least some things from ruins.
BoyNextDoor: The Nora didn't learn anything from the Old Ones. The ruins of the Metal World are forbidden.
DIVINER: True, but we don't know exactly to what extent! After all, we know you have at least ruin, the exterior of the Cradle facility!
DIVINER: Besides, the Quen didn't learn hunting from the Ancestors, so there's not an easy point of comparison.
FlameHairSavior: So you want a pure sample. Why, exactly? I mean, I understand getting more information that you might be able to use, but you don't sound like you're looking for better farming techniques.
DIVINER: If I can identify the differences, I can make all sorts of interesting inferences! Maybe improve both of our techniques, if I can see what works in one area and what doesn't in another!
FlameHairSavior: I think you're just having fun.
DIVINER: That too!!
Zo: I suspect that you'll be less impressed with Utaru practices. We do, after all, have a major advantage with the land-gods.
DIVINER: Don't sell yourselves short! Agriculture was never so central to our culture as it is for you! We revere Eileen Sasaki as a great Ancestor, but it was always just a means to an end! We grow food for our population. Nothing more and nothing less.
DIVINER: Your children probably know more about growing plants than most of our experts!
Zo: I suspect that is an exaggeration.
Zo: But thank you.
MARSHAL Kotallo: Do not underestimate the value of specialization. How do you think that the Tenakth were able to fight back the Carja?
BoyNextDoor: Sheer charger-headed stubbornness?
HIMBO: NO, THE OSERAM ARE THE STUBBORN ONES.
MARSHAL Kotallo: [B99SelfBurn.gif]
DIVINER: You used one of mine!!
MARSHAL Kotallo: I've used several of yours already.
MARSHAL Kotallo: Regardless. The point is that, as Alva noted, while the Utaru have some advantages that might have kept them from being pushed to truly innovate, their deep devotion to the very idea of agriculture must have led to some advancements that other cultures would never have discovered.
HIMBO: THE CARJA STILL USE SOME UTARU TO FARM THE MAIZELANDS. EVEN WHEN THEY WERE SLAVES, THEY WERE APPARENTLY THE BEST THAT THEY HAD.
β: they put slaves who hate them in charge of their food
β: couldnt they just sabotage everything
HIMBO: I'D CALL IT CRAZY, BUT IT WORKED.
Zo: No Utaru would sabotage a field. It would be an affront to everything we believe in.
BoyNextDoor: I bet they worked harder once Avad freed them, though.
HIMBO: YEAH, HE TOLD THEM ALL THEY COULD GO HOME, OR STAY AND BE PAID. I THINK... HALF TOOK THE JOBS? ERSA WAS CAPTAIN BACK THEN, SO I DON'T REMEMBER FOR SURE.
Zo: Utaru also become very attached to any fields they sow. They would not leave them easily.
BoyNextDoor: Are you saying they... put down roots?
HIMBO: HA!
DIVINER: Surprise pun from the Nora brave!
MARSHAL Kotallo: [DisapprovalDog.png]
Zo: [ForumWeaponHeadShake267.gif]
FlameHairSavior: It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
Zo: That's because the quiet ones understand the value of patience.
β: they know if they wait long enough it will bear fruit
DIVINER: [DeadpoolGasp.gif]
MARSHAL Kotallo: In some parts of the Clan Lands, puns can get you executed.
FlameHairSavior: Really? One little pun? Even for the worst of the Tenakth, that seems a little much.
MARSHAL Kotallo: Unfortunately, yes. My people do not appreciate those who go against the grain.
FlameHairSavior: …
FlameHairSavior: I'm coming back with a ravager cannon and I'm going to shoot you.

Niloy November - Day 3: Fire
"Not my first firestorm", he'd told her, amidst the flaming buildings of Meridian Village and the Royal Maizelands. Behind him, the fire was raging – thatched-roof buildings going up in a crackle, upright timbers shivering beneath the roar of the flames, spitting embers that were crushed underfoot by both devil-machines and men.  Aloy gave pause for a moment, letting loose an arrow into the breast of the Longleg, before Nil stabbed into its wing-vents, downing the machine.  Shouting at her to go on ahead, to the path that called her further forward– and then she was gone, her hair whipping behind her, a wave of red disappearing into the fire.  The inferno was almost a beast unto itself, the heat whipping up gusts of air that prickled Nil’s skin and searing his eyelids as his eyes whipped around the battlefield, ever alert for a new enemy.
The last time he'd been in a blaze this fierce, the sky had been choked black with smoke; the air filled with screams and war-cries of Nora Braves, and the clattering crash of a Carja gong and the sonorous call of a war-horn to signal maneuvers to the soldiers rushing down into the fray.  As the tall grasses and the triangle-shaped huts burnt in such a fury that made even the rocks ripple in waves, Nil could vaguely recall standing at the base of the ridge, the heat wafting up and licking across his face and snaking over his armour.  It was his first time in foreign lands, and the excitement and fervor of the skirmish began to take hold in his body.  The blood pounding in his ears, so loud it seemed to drown out the roar of the fires; a keening cry in his veins to stab-slash-parry-cut as Nora warriors emerged from the smoke with clubs and spears upraised.
And after, in the calm and the quiet, Nil wiped his sword clean, seeing his own blood-spattered reflection in the blade.  As he stared at his own steely-eyed reflection, he became aware of a sound, reaching past the slowing, thundering tempo of his racing heart.  A ringing in his ears that would not stop, nor could the shivers that now washed over him quell the fire in his veins.  More, his body seemed to whisper to him.  More.

Diary of a Carja #1
Tumblr media
You know how your Friends and Family like to gossip about who you will eventually marry in life? Like, a Rich one, or someone who takes good care of you, or someone who works really hard. Heard that before? Yes, well... it is the same for me but with my Friends. They love to talk about that a lot. I am the only single Girl in our little Group. The reason as to why that is lies in the history of the Carja. The Father has the saying in every Family, they usually arrange weddings for their daughters, but… not so for me. I don’t know who my Family is, or what happened to them, all I know is, that I grew up alone, in the Streets of the lower Village of the City of the Sun: Meridian. So, every time I meet up with my friends and some average to handsome looking guy walks by, you can hear them talk… and they talk A LOT, always trying to introduce them to me. In fact, I’ve met someone...He is a Noble and his name is Ryas. We’ve just recently crossed ways but no one every piqued my interest as he did…
But I am writing ahead… Hello! My name is Emilie, I am a shy redhead that just tries to survive on her own. I am a commoner in a city full of Nobles, who think they are better than everyone else. Living in the lower parts of Meridian, the Village, I am having a small, but cozy house, right before the Royal Maizelands, with a little garden that provides me with enough food to survive well. I can’t quite remember how it happens but, I managed to make some friends that are Nobles themselves. We meet up quite often while making little group projects in the city, like art, embroidery, crocheting, sewing and reading books. Even though I prefer the Village, because it is calm and less busy as Meridian, I enjoy coming up to visit the market. It always smells nice of different kind of spices that dance in the air like a swarm of flower petals. ~

doomsday - part three
The redhead raised her head. She wasn’t crying but there was something in her eye, something Talanah couldn’t put her finger on. An emotion of some sort, a resilience or an affront, maybe a silent promise. She did not answer, in fact she never did, but blinked slowly before looking at her feet and pulling her grappling hook from her belt. Talanah did not take her answer for a yes or no, just merely a brief eclipse over the Sun’s horizon. She reached out and touched Aloy’s shoulder, her gaze kind and apologetic.
“In that case, maybe something not so complicated, huh?”
“What’s that?”
“You. Me. At the crack of dawn. Hawk and Thrush. One last hunt?”
Aloy glanced over the wall at the wrecked maizelands and the fallen bridge. Then she looked at the broken machine carcasses across the river and the forest beyond that, the pathway disappearing up into the Jewel. The moon lit up the tops of the trees and a breeze blew them gently sideways. Aloy’s smile, though tired and weak, was grateful for the second option.
“Alright then. Hawk and Thrush, one last hunt.”

fit cheque
fitness cheques cashed at the door, when the rains cry “oh mercy” and the levellers patch notes into the unrelenting soil. carcinization is a welcome mat, far from the killing fields of sierra leone and the puta madre gangplank war cries that so often sound in this era of this quadrant of the parched maizelands. the lesser periwinkle stands to inherit godless dimensions, the title card reading “you are 6 years old”, “you are entering hell”. the configurations seem endless when the screen first lights up, end of the week, skating by, cat-like entry behind razor wire and mountains of dead phosphate, sewn and catalogued, slicing through the sanctity of what you considered the world. illusionary brickwork, like an island of hybrids, squinting, permeates the membrane, an acid frost thawing in remembrance of uttered phrases, oft and on cue, surrogate fathers and missed breakfasts, a dying oligarch, a babe’s cry the awakening of desire. all this up on the wall, expansion, soft palate, a new language. the sandalmaker brings such disparate threads together, the boots too big forgotten in the moment of turbulent ebullience. it is love contained in idiocy, and it won’t last the season.

trying to iron out the memory timeline but after i ran away my mom would send me letters, when the first one came the messenger seemed relieved and asked if i could leave a message of some sort as to where i was going to be moving next but i planned to stay where i was. im pretty sure that the scale of the land was twice as big, the jewel was bigger, and im pretty sure meridian spread either across two mesa or the one it was on was much larger, but most of the lower floors of houses were storage, living higher up from the streets meant less noise, especially near the market. the royal maizelands were definitely larger, and it was a multi day journey from meridian to daytower.
but anyway that means that her messenger had to find me first, im sure she funded the journey, going into the jewel while the derangement was kicking up wasnt a cheap task. I think in a letter she mentioned seeing what she thought was me running off into the jewel at the crack of dawn, and that i had woken her up but she didnt try to stop me because she didnt want to make my stubborn self resent her. She said she wanted me to feel able to come home if i needed to. I dont think i did, i visited meridian city and saw my mom every now and then but not often. When i was a fresh runaway i would go to meridian village a lot though, to see my friends and help in the fields or help the crafters for a meal, especially in winter. The ladies there would help me identify wild plants i could eat, and for a cut of my kills the butchers would preserve meats for me and eventually i didnt need to help out for food, i could just sell furs and skins and excess meat and wild plants.
This actually leads me to believe that either i ran away during the red raids, or that the timeline in my timeline was shifted somewhat. Im starting to think aloy was around 22-24, rather than 18-20, and i was around 19-20, so i would have ran away roughly around my mid teens or something. Im trying to make it make sense with the proving though, maybe olin wasnt there, or he didnt have a focus yet, and so they only found out about her still living a few years later. i wouldnt know THAT part though i wasnt there.  Trying to remember if i can remember aloy talking about the nora, whether or not she lived amongst them for an amount of time. But i do think that the whole eclipse and all that stuff happened much slower than it did in game so it would fit wrt that

I have serious questions about how trade and a few other things work in horizon. Namely textiles. We see Grata wearing what appears to be a wool knit, but the only wool-producing animal confirmed to exist are the goats in Frozen Wilds. So are the Nora trading with the Banuk? It would make sense.
And the Carja silks? Definitely not actual silk, but I do wonder what they are. Likely just a high quality textile because well...we have zero evidence of trans-Pacific trade and the necessary ingredients for producing real silk just don't exist in North America without that.
Though I suppose it could be spidersilk, but I doubt it. We only see the occasional web and not even in irl do we have the technology to make that a viable textile source.
We see the occasional skins tanning in the world, so that and the furs make sense. But where are the looms? Where is the serious agriculture because holy shit a city like Meridian cannot exist without something more than the Royal Maizelands.

Dato: 01-04-2016 10:15 CEST Opprinnelig tittel på pressemeldingen: Kunnskapsbarnehagen Espira har åpnet barnehage i Zimbabwe Kategori: , Utdanning Barn, ungdom Undervisning, læring
Tumblr media

FORBIDDEN WEST THOUGHTS 2, ELECTRIC BOOGALOO
I’m literally on the dot at 50.2 percent completion so I figure it’s a good time bc idk what plot could follow what I know now, so
SPOILERS AGAIN
Ok, listen, y’all know Avad’s #1 in my heart but HOLY FUCK does Kotallo make a challenge for the throne!!
I don’t know how they keep making all the different varieties of ideal™️ men but goddamnit does Aloy keep finding them! Don’t be selfish girl leave some for the rest of us!! 🥺
he does such a quick heel turn from “ugh the chief is making me help an outlander” to “hello commander reporting for duty” AND I! JUST!!
KOTALLO!!!
love me a man that will wrestle a machine with chainsaws for teeth and also demand chocolate frosting as a ration
“That was an unkind comparison” YOUR HONOR, I LOVE HIM
it was a really great tone/motivation to have that whole plot just be “let’s go take this asshole down a peg”
and WHERE is aloy learning to curse so much now?? i’m not crazy, right? she’s telling people off left and right! i love it but goddamn, i think rost would be PISSED lol
can I just say, the Tenakth are a pretty fascinating group for a violent bunch. They’re just historians with a fixation on military doctrine! If they just stopped killing each other over everything, they’d really have the mettle to challenge the Carja
(But pls don’t do that Avad is really trying to keep the peace YALL 😭)
anyways I really liked how their section went, and I only did a couple side quests after the kulrut and haven’t touched the arena, so we’ll see if it impresses me even more
The Utaru I initially really liked, but then I realized that was just Zo selling them really well bc a lot of their npcs were rude and their leadership don’t seem to believe in having any agency, soooo
I can see why Zo just completely lost faith in them immediately lmao
Again tho, didn’t do any post-main story missions there yet, so we shall see!
Kue was cool, tho! I would go hang out with that settlement more if they get more quests tbh
I will say I thought Beta’s defection was pretty clever, idk how I knew the whole thing with the 237 immediately lol but I will happily take my pride on that one
I don’t feel bad but also kinda feel bad for laughing at the immortal woman with centuries of tech at her fingertips just to be stabbed to death by a tribal dude with a knife 😂
all that money and still no sense!!
but Beta’s issues, man
MAN,,,,
I’m well past her breakdown by now too and yknow her deal must be beyond complex if everyone in that base and Aloy included has been thru some kind of lasting trauma, and they’re all just throwing their hands up at her
I hate to meme about it but when i get to meet tilda i’m just gonna be like, “look at this clone you made, she’s got anxiety”
Anyways, I hope someone can get her some good help bc idk if GAIA is designed for therapy lol
(They SHOULD get her a real name, first things first!)
I’ve complained about the pacing/freedom of movement enough so far, but I’m still very confused at the why/where’s/how’s of it?
Like, the leveling up through the base felt fine, nothing was head and shoulders above me and they only threw the big bois at you w/the plot
But by the kulrut, I was starting to get side missions & errands that were 5-10 levels above me, in areas with super aggressive machines I was very unprepared for
and then the tremortusk mission felt very…. Easy? And I realized I was actually OVERLEVELED for it?? even tho everything else in the area wasn’t???
I don’t understand how the plot can be pushing me forward so much, and yet here I am at tide’s reach getting level 20 side missions at level 41, even tho I just fought a level 40 vampire bat!!
Like, what! How are you supposed to get this far and be simultaneously babied and bullied? HOW??
idk, I felt like HZD had it right just having each area set at a certain difficulty, so you could just mentally sort it out like, “okay, I can handle the maizelands at my level, and if I wanna relax I can go back to the embrace,” and so on
Everyone who said the pacing was great in reviews clearly meant the plot bc, well, no arguments there lol but oh boy does my general gameplay pacing get so thrown off when I struggle in a cauldron 5 levels above me for an hour bc GAIA HERSELF CALLED AND TOLD ME TO DO IT!
and then I walk 10 feet outside to find an NPC begging me to help them with a fetch quest literally 15 levels beneath me 😬
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
Anyway speaking of yikes, that lady at the biotech facility just got totally gaslit into thinking BIOMASS CONVERSION (the thing that doomed the world) WAS GOOD?? JUST GOTTA KEEP OUTDOING YOUR OWN SHIT, EH TED???
Y I K E S
anyways good on that person who resigned halfway thru, I respect them and only them in that environment
Alva is cool tho! And I mean that in the nerdiest, most awkward way possible lol
I gotta be honest, when I saw people mention her I thought she was supposed to be Beta bc no one understandably mentioned Beta and I thought Alva sounded close enough to Aloy that it meant they had picked a new name for her bc Beta feels kinda insulting to keep tbh
Anyways, her people sound neat, idk how i feel about hanging out with them since they worship elisabet herself?? that twist was really well done but goddamn the LOOK in aloy’s eyes when she realized “oh, not again!” lmaooo
I have also fought the monkeys. i hate the monkeys. i thought they were weird jungle cats for a little bit too lol
I REALLY didn't expect to be at the coast already with how much more western space i still have blank on my map? but i guess, erosion is kind of the silent machine here? neat
as a native Californian, i would guess that’s just north of the bay, but its so far north i almost wanna say Eureka?? idk, but i will say theres quite a few places north and south that have that many redwoods, so i was kinda sad there were no datapoints ID’ing it
i wanna see if i can recognize everything now lol, i don't wanna leave its so pretty!! but i did reluctantly go back just to throw demeter back into gaia and its looking like i have a big chunk of plot left, huh? jesus, i really might not finish before the 18th oop
