BAHAHA oh god is my unmitigated thirst for the Horizon men showing too much? MY BAD. 😂

Okay, thirst aside, my honest opinion is that HZD is overall the best game I have ever played. To me, the story, characters, and gameplay are all top-notch. At the time that it came out, the facial animations were top-notch, and in the sequel (Horizon Forbidden West), they’re even better - truly PHENOMENAL. But I’ll give you my elevator pitch summary of HZD below the cut, if you want to know more!

So when HZD was first being promoted, all we (my fiance and I) really knew about it was that it appears to be a game where a girl in leather-and-cloth armour fights futuristic metal dinosaurs with a plain old bow and arrow. We saw this and were like, what??? How does this make any sense??? How can you possibly tell us that it makes sense for this girl to be fighting metal dinosaurs with a bow and arrow? But FUCK did the teaser trailers look cool as hell, so we were intrigued.

And then we played the game, and all I really want to say without spoiling is that EVERYTHING makes sense. It makes complete sense why the people of this world all seem to live a pre-modern-technology world, and yet they’re fighting animal- and dinosaur-shaped robots that look like far-future technology. HZD has the best sci-fi storyline, the most vile villain, and one of the most compelling heroines that I have ever seen or played, not to mention an entire bevy of wonderful NPCs to fall in love with, and I have yet to meet anyone who didn’t cry at least once during this game because it’s so exquisitely emotional.

In terms of whether it’s fun to play: YES YES YES. The world is drop-dead beautiful, with the photomode function giving you hours and hours of extra entertainment if that strikes your fancy (it definitely struck mine - a few of my photomode shots are below). The soundtrack is wonderful and ambient and emotional. The combat system is SO MUCH FUN and makes you feel like a total BAMF if you can master it, and this is the only game I’ve ever enjoyed the combat in so much that I played and beat the game on the hardest mode.

And if that wasn’t enough, when you finish HZD, you can play HFW right away BECAUSE YOU WON’T HAVE TO WAIT 5 YEARS FOR IT. 😂

I hope my elevator pitch wins you over, especially since HZD is now out on PC! And here are the photomode shots I promised! (The resolution is bad because I’m too lazy to grab the originals off my PS4 right now, so they’re ripped from my own tumblr. sorry. 😂)
