Take charge of your kidney health and prioritize kidney care | Mahatma Gandhi Hospital
Kidney disease is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is a silent killer, as it often shows no symptoms until it has progressed to an advanced stage. Kidneys are essential organs that help remove waste and excess fluids from the body. When they don't function correctly, waste and fluids can build up, causing damage to other organs and leading to potentially life-threatening complications.
There are two types of kidney disease: acute and chronic. Acute kidney disease is a sudden and often temporary condition that occurs when the kidneys can't filter waste from the blood as they should. This can be caused by dehydration, infection, medication, or other factors. In most cases, the kidneys can recover from acute kidney disease with proper treatment.
Chronic kidney disease, on the other hand, is a long-term condition that develops over time. It can be caused by a range of factors, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and autoimmune diseases. Chronic kidney disease can lead to kidney failure, which means that the kidneys are no longer able to function properly, and waste and fluids build up in the body. When this happens, dialysis or a kidney transplant may be required to sustain life.

Kidney disease can be challenging to detect early, as symptoms often don't appear until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. Common symptoms include fatigue, swelling in the legs and ankles, changes in urine output, and difficulty sleeping. However, many of these symptoms can also be caused by other health conditions, making it difficult to diagnose kidney disease until it has reached an advanced stage.
Prevention is the best approach to managing kidney disease. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, can help reduce the risk of developing kidney disease. Additionally, managing conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure can help prevent kidney damage.
For those with kidney disease, early detection and treatment are crucial. Treatment options may include medication, changes to diet and lifestyle, and, in some cases, dialysis or a kidney transplant. Regular check-ups with a doctor can help monitor kidney function and detect any changes early, improving the chances of successful treatment.
Kidney disease is a serious health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is a silent killer that often shows no symptoms until it has progressed to an advanced stage. Prevention and early detection are key to managing kidney disease and reducing the risk of complications. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle and seeking medical attention if symptoms arise, individuals can help protect their kidney function and lead healthier lives.

The Sistine Chapel Crucifix
On Saturday, December 12, 1931, Gandhi had a strange encounter with one such man ["of faith and non-violence incarnate"]. It took place in the Vatican Museums. After being shown the masterpieces of some of the world's greatest artists, Gandhi was taken to the Sistine Chapel — the place where Popes had been elected since 1492; the place where Michelangelo's paintings adorn the ceiling and Raphael's tapestries decorate the sturdy walls alongside frescoes of Perugino, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, and Rosselli. Here, amidst the profusion of colour, symbols, tradition, and against the backdrop of Michelangelo's Last Judgment, Gandhi's eyes fell on a simple wooden crucifix at the centre of the high altar. A common tourist would normally have been transfixed by Michelangelo's depiction of lost souls in contorted bodies behind it. But Gandhi was neither a commoner nor a tourist. He stopped before the crucifix for some time. He contemplated the dying Christ, half-naked, bleeding, and suspended by nails in his hands and feet. He surveyed the image, moving to look at it from the rear of the altar, then from each side, "as if to perform a pradakshina [circumabulation of a deity] of it." Mira noticed his moist eyes. He then whispered to Desai on his way out of the chapel, "One can't help being moved to tears." The Pope's inability to grant him an audience and Mussolini's sinister hospitality coalesced in this unexpected encounter with the Crucified — author of the 'Beatitudes' he loved so much.
Peter Gonsalves ("The Mahatma, Il Duce, and the Crucifix: Gandhi's Brief Encounter with Mussolini and its Consequences"). Bolded emphases added.

كن التغير الذي تريد أن تراه في العالم. *
- Mahatma Gandhi
Be the change you want to see in the world.*
As an irate and highly Western educated Qatari business friend of mine put it she is so looking forward to watching the World Cup in the USA in 2026 then she can return the favour and moralise to white liberal Americans about their societal shortcomings.
As she put it since Americans love to moralise to the world it’s only fair to point out their sins: from genocide of its Indian natives to the evil of the slave trade as well as the killing 60 million babies in their mother’s wombs to the mutilating and cutting off body parts of little children just so they can delude themselves into believing that can be a boy or a girl (terms they can’t even define) based not on biology but feelings, and to their hatred and active break up of the nuclear family unit as the foundation of society.
Or that Obama authorised more strikes in his first year than Bush carried out during his entire presidency. A total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen during Obama’s two terms, compared to 57 strikes under Bush. Civilians killed in those countries resulted in the deaths of over 3797 people, including 542 civilians. Black Lives Matter but not so much non-American Muslim women and children slaughtered. Let’s not even talk about the history of American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And so on and so on.
But she won’t because she has manners and she understands she is a guest in a foreign country and has to respect its laws and customs, even those one might strongly disagree with.
As much as I could take issue with her arguments, and as much as I dislike the authoritarian nature of Qatar, it is a sovereign Islamic state like any other Islamic country in the Middle East and the other Muslim majority states in the world. Having said that it’s not in the same league as truly oppressive states like Putin’s Russia or Xi’s China. If it was then there would be no large Western and and even greater non-Western presence of people here (greater than the Qataris themselves), living and working quite happily for years.
As for labour abuse there is a case to answer for but it’s no different than any other country where labour are often screwed. All the contracts for buildings are done by Western and Chinese companies and they are meant to enforce strong labour laws - but inevitably they find ways around it or are too slow to do so. The Qataris are guilty for not cracking down on the abuse by these companies of labour laws it passed after intense outside pressure (and rightly so). Many of working migrants - mostly from India - have housing and food paid for them and they earn far more than they would back in their home countries. Of course there are documented cases of migrant labour abuse but not on the industrial scale that some Western media outlets are falsely reporting.
If you go to any stadium here in Qatar, you will inevitably hear a lot of people speaking in Hindi - which I speak too from my childhood in India. That’s because the Indian presence at this World Cup is very strong. The hyped up labour abuse of migrant workers hasn’t stopped Indians coming out to enjoy the World Cup. In fact, statistics published by the Qatar establishment show that Indians constitute 9% of the fans who have come for the World Cup. Saudi Arabia, which has a land border with Qatar, accounts for 11% and sits at the top. India is in the second position, and surprisingly followed by the US  who make up 7% of visitors.
For the droves of visiting Americans here they are truly shocked how futuristic, slick, and modern Qatar is in contrast to the urban decaying of their cities. The standard of living is higher than anything they are used to. They are also overwhelmed by the sincere and friendly hospitality of Arab people here.
The hand wringing and sheer nonsense written in some parts of the Western media about Qatar is embarrassingly untrue. It’s a caricature of the truth in the same way Qataris have a caricatured impression of the West only just obsessed with sex and alcohol. One is confronted here at the World Cup of genuine footballing fans from England, Wales, the US, and other European countries apologising to their Qatari hosts for the misinformed - sometimes bordering on outright racism - press articles on life in Qatar.
You can drink here - just not at the stadiums itself. Previous World Cups have done the same and no one kicked up a fuss. Most fans have said it made for a better and cosier atmopshere for opposing fans and for families especially. Opposing fans mingle freely and have a good laugh together in a safe and well run World Cup. There are well catered fan zones. Plenty of beer is on tap here in the bars and hotels, though it will set you back around £14 a pint.
You can have sex with whomever you want - just don’t do it in public. Laws are not targeted specifically to gays but equally to hetrosexuals e.g. no public displays of affection like kissing or holding hands. Whatever you decide to do in your hotel room is up to you.
In truth everyone looks the other way.
Is the World Cup corrupt. Of course it is. Every World Cup has been. FIFA has been shown to be corrupt from almost its inception. Qataris are not immune to corruption but as many Qataris have said to me the Qataris just learned everything from the West. They observed carefully how we do business in the West. Money and power talks. This is how the game is played.
But I will say this in FIFA’s defence that over the last twenty years, FIFA has demonstrated a commitment to open its product up to a wider audience and take its premier sporting contest, the World Cup, to new heartlands.

The USA saw the benefit of this initiative in 1994, before Japan and South Korea became both the first Asian nations and the first co-hosts for the historic competition in 2002. In 2010, the World Cup arrived at a fifth continent (Africa) and a new heartland was reached with the contest being taken to South Africa. In 2022, after a return to Brazil and a sojourn to Russia, the Islamic Middle East now becomes the next bright destination for the Modiale bandwagon, as Qatar benefits from the truly global game.
The Middle East region is among the fastest growing areas for football in the world and promises to be an endless stream of young, passionate football fans for years to come. And with football one hopes social progress follows. But if it happens it will be on their terms, and not ours.

The Westerner lied to you about the Black African, and assured you they were lesser, so that when he enslaved them, it seemed scientific and just. He lied to you about duplicitous Romani, about Asiatic hordes. He lied to you about God and how to get into Heaven. He lied to you when you were a peasant, tilling his fields, conscripted to go die by the sword for no good reason. He lied to you when you were a worker covered in soot and eating sawdust, stuffed in a factory, conscripted to go die by bullets and bombs and gas cannisters.
He lied to you about the Native Americans and their extermination. He continued to lie to you about the enslavement of the Black African. He lied to you about how you had a fair shake in this New World, how hard work was what would get you crystals and linens and carriages like his.
He lied to you about Hitler, and assured you he was a good man restoring the dignity of the German people. He lied to you about cigarettes causing cancer. He lied to you about lead, asbestos, and plastic. He lied to you about fossil fuels. He lied to you about Nature itself, and assured you it was a wicked beast that must be violently tamed. He lied to you about global climate change. He lied to you about homosexuals. He lied to you about the newly freed slaves. He lied to you about the Irish, the Indians, the Orient. He lied to you about all the famines he caused, all the women he raped, all the children he left to rot, all the men he ground to dust. Millions, and millions, and millions of them.
The Westerner lied to you about mental illness. He lied to you about sex and romance. He lied to you about how to raise a family, how to educate yourself, how to be a productive member of society. He lied to you about social media, and why it was created. He lied to you about the necessity of dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; he lied about Japanese Americans. He lied about the Opium Wars. He lied about George W. Bush winning the election. He lied about Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction--another few million innocent civilians killed, but he lied and said it was merely some 200,000, and that they were almost all combatants. Ruthless, barbaric; inhuman. He lied to you about going to Yugoslavia, how you were saving the people there. He lied to you about freedom and democracy and how bombing hospitals and schools was the way to spread it in Syria, Libya, Laos. He lied to you about Vietnam and how necessary it was to stop the spread of communism, how you were liberating the Vietnamese people that you napalmed. After he destroyed every square inch of Korea he assured that the country was desolate because of some cartoonish dictator. He lied to you about Latin America and all the dictators he paid to torture their own people for wanting to be paid more than a dollar a day to harvest your bananas. He lied to you about green energy initiatives, about "sustainably sourced," about "fair trade," about "humane treatement" and "non profit" and "social justice." He lied to you about how the Pentagon and State Department reviewed every single blockbuster script Hollywood drafted to ensure it led to army recruitment above all else. He lied and assured your vote mattered, your voice was heard. He lied and assured the Democrats would make things a little better this time around--surely they will, they have a supermajority in multiple branches of government! He lied and told you he loved the living Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jesus of Nazareth all along. He lied and told you, well, he had made some honest mistakes but, really, this time he was a changed man, and that he had seen the light.
He lied to you about porn, about the War on Drugs, about 9/11, about Guantanamo Bay torture tactics, about sugar in foods, about AIDS, about COVID, about the The Great Depression and the Great Recession. He continued to lie about millions of those he killed, and about why Africa seemed to stay so poor. He lied about the cause of the Civil War. He lied about every U.S. president. He lied about how BLM was pillaging the country when 93% of protests were 100% peaceful and the 7% that weren't were often agitated by undercover police and fascists. He lied to you about 75 years of Israeli genocide against Palestinians that were painted as brutish Hammas Islamists who deserve everything they have coming to them. He lied to you about Occupy Wall Street. Planned obsolescence and purposeful enshittification. He lied to you about the surveillance apparatus he created right inside your very home. He lied to you about Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning; his infinite lies were exposed again and again by whistleblowers, historians, scientists, activists, journalists. Thousands of brave women and men were imprisoned, tortured, and killed for airing his dirty laundry. And then, ironically, he would casually admit to the lies himself! --but only after enough time had passed that it seemed no longer relevant. He would belly laugh about how easily he swayed the entire population with cheap, lazy lies concocted by his FBI, his CIA, his Church, his news media, his think tanks, his celebrities, his commercial advertisements, his silver tongued lawyers and legislators and academics.
He lied to you about his lies being merely a personal failing, or a product of ignorance or incompetence. He lied about the fact that he knowingly lied, fully understanding, and hoping for, its consequences. Each. And every. Single. Time.
He lied to you about having morals, value, or ethics whatsoever.
So...
Seems like a pretty well-established untrustworthy character, yes?
Could you imagine if one individual lied to you this much in your life? Absolutely insane! Could you ever trust a word out of this motherfucker's mouth about anything, ever again?
No?
No!!!
So...
Why *laughs* why, pray tell, do you continue to trust him so obediently?
When the communist appears--a person who stands in total opposition to his entire system, a person who represents the only substantial threat to his millenium of absolute rule--why do you take the Westerner's word for what they stand for, before the communist has even had a chance to open their mouth?
The Westerner assures you this communist, this Godless Red, Antichrist Incarnate, has killed hundreds of thousands--no, millions--no, HUNDREDS of millions of THEIR OWN PEOPLE...FOR NO REASON! Simply because they love cruelty, truly! They behead babies, rape them, and then eat them! They boiled 500 good Christian babies alive in the Red Square a hundred years ago, and now they will boil 5000 more in Tiananmen Square today! The only solution is WAR. We must invest TRILLIONS more (of your money) into making weapons...to LIBERATE these people from their EVIL RULERS!
The Westerner is shaking. He usually delivers his lies with such suave, level-headed coolness. But now? He stumbles on his words, he visibly bites his teeth and clenches his fist.
THIS IS HIS GREATEST ENEMY.
I beg you, to let them speak.
What is the worst that will happen?
So maybe they are both liars. Maybe they are both truly evil and wholly untrustworthy; equivalents.
How can you be sure, though, until you've given the communist a fair chance to make their case?
Because, I assure you. If you think the Westerner's lies about cigarettes, or Black people, or climate change, or capitalism itself are ludicrous, just wait until the lies it makes about its mortal enemy are given light.
Xinjiang, the Holodomor, gulags, organ harvesting, haircut executions, purges, disappearances, secret police, pleasure squads. Imperialism in Eastern Europe or Africa. Hong Kong, Ukraine, Taiwan. Stalin, Castro, Che, Xi, Lenin, Sankara, the Black Panthers. The lies don't end. The Soviets in Afghanistan--did you know Afghanistan became socialist democratically and begged the Soviets to help when the USA rallied fascist militants to kill them for their punishment of choosing to be free and stop growing opium? (Probably the easiest read of the 3 links, Michael Parenti is very approachable and likeable, check out Yellow Parenti if you like longform videos).
I have a feeling you didn't.
And that's okay!
Ignorance is NOT a sin, especially when information is being purposefully omitted, distorted, and fabricated on a civilizational scale.
HOWEVER...not even being WILLING to entertain a counter narrative, against the word of the most well-documented liar in human history? That doesn't seem very fair.
The Guardian, NPR, Vice, Wikipedia. They are lying to you. They are lying just as much as WaPo, CNN, MSNBC, and the NYT, which in turn are lying to you just as much as Fox News, Breitbart, OAN and the Daily Stormer. They are all a part of the same apparatus. They are all under the Westerner's hand, and he doesn't mind if they squabble over some details as long as it helps sell the Great Lie all the better by providing a facade of independent thought. He has, after all, mastered the craft of lying, and evolved it as an art and as an instrument of war like humanity has never seen before.
He will only continue to add to the lies...
Don't even bother learning about them, or trying to debunk and unlearn and re-learn every issue. There isn't enough time in the world.
Just
STOP TRUSTING WHAT HE SAYS.
And if you feel inclined, SEEK OUT EXPLICTLY COMMUNIST AND ANTI-IMPERIALIST SOURCES FOR A COUNTER NARRATIVE 💜💜💜
What's the worst that could happen?

I am not saying this to make you change your mind about Cuba or Che Guevara, but please, don't forget that Che Guevara was also homophic and sent lgbtq+ people to labor camps ("El trabajo los hará hombres" - work will make them men) and racist. And about the doctors, they are exploited, while Cuba send their doctors to other countries, a large part of their salaries has to be sent to the Cuban government and they are left with only 10% to 25% of what the foreign country they work in gave them.
Hello anon
This is very fair, thank you.
I just want to clarify because I tried to keep it short so my point might have not been too clear.
The post wasn't really about the idolisation of one person but rather how differently people can perceive a person or country or situation given the information they have
We should always point out the negative actions of people and governments.
But at the same time there's a tendency to skew this view of things only to "good people" who do bad things.
As a South African and a black woman I have a unique negative view of Mahatma Gandhi (he was very racist, sexist and creepy) but that doesn't change that his actions helped millions if not billions of people. It would be insane to pretend it didn't.
Obviously, if there are better figures to celebrate we should celebrate them but it doesn't undo history.
For the vast majority of his actions, Che helped people and inspired others to revolution. He is more a symbol now than anything else.
The situation in Cuba is almost not so simple so I wouldn't feel comfortable agreeing or disagreeing but we should remember that the entire country remains under US embargo and sanctions.
If you know anything about that sort of politics, as someone whose country was also once under US sanctions - it is incredibly cruel and designed to make the poorest people's lives the hardest so they turn on their government.
Governments therefore resort to much higher taxes and wealth distribution. The money taken from some goes to others in the best case scenario and if there is corruption that's not exactly a problem unique to Cuba.
Not to mention Cuba, like many countries, has a much more socialistic model than the US.
I'm also pretty sure when attending Elam medical school, tuition, accommodation and boarding is free. Which is probably why the doctors pay back to the government for the first few years. But if you're talking about the years of compulsory community service work all doctors have to do - this system is employed in many countries including mine.
It's normal that medical students and professionals work in government hospitals and clinics which provide free or low cost care to all citizens.
Anyways like I said I don't know much beyond this so I'm not going to insist on a right or wrong. And especially as a queer person, I don't want to overlook or erase the bad things.
Just that different in my perspective because of the information and life I have - Cuba has supported the freedom and education of Africans for longer than I've been alive, my mom has worked closely with Cuban doctors and my father was a freedom fighter against the apartheid regime - I have grown up seeing things one way.
And the video reminded me that some people have grown up never seeing this side of the story.

Stages of a migraine attack to your brain | Mahathma Gandhi Super Speciality Hospitals

3. Headache Stage
The headache stage is the most well-known stage of a migraine and can last from a few hours to several days. The pain is usually unilateral (on one side of the head), although it can also be bilateral (on both sides of the head). During this stage, you may experience:
Throbbing pain: The pain is often described as a throbbing or pulsating sensation.
Sensitivity to light, sound, and smells: You may find that bright lights, loud noises, or strong smells make your headache worse.
Nausea and vomiting: Many people with migraines experience nausea and vomiting during the headache stage.
Lightheadedness: You may feel dizzy or lightheaded.
4. Postdrome Stage
The postdrome stage is the final stage of migraine and occurs after the headache has subsided. During this stage, you may experience:
Fatigue: You may feel exhausted or drained.
Difficulty concentrating: You may find it challenging to focus or think clearly.
Mood changes: You may feel euphoric, irritable, or depressed.
Muscle weakness: You may experience weakness or discomfort in your limbs.

Meena Nambi Alive
In the bustling city of Chennai, amidst the cacophony of traffic and the vibrant colors of the marketplaces, there exists a story that resonates with resilience, courage, and the triumph of the human spirit. This is the story of Meena Nambi, a survivor whose journey through adversity serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for many.
Tumblr media
Born into a modest family in a small village on the outskirts of Chennai, Meena's early life was marked by hardship. Her parents, both laborers, struggled to make ends meet, often barely scraping by on the meager income they earned from their toils in the fields. Despite the financial challenges, Meena's parents instilled in her the values of perseverance and determination, teaching her to never lose hope, no matter how dire the circumstances.
As Meena grew older, she witnessed firsthand the stark inequalities that pervaded her society. Girls in her village were often denied access to education, forced instead to stay at home and help with household chores. But Meena refused to accept this fate. With unwavering determination, she persuaded her parents to allow her to attend school, promising to work twice as hard to make up for the time spent away from home.
Meena's academic prowess soon became evident, and she quickly rose to the top of her class. Despite facing ridicule and discrimination from her peers, who saw her ambition as unbecoming of a girl, Meena remained steadfast in her pursuit of knowledge. She saw education not only as a means of escaping the cycle of poverty but also as a tool for empowerment and self-fulfillment.
After completing her schooling, Meena's dreams took her to the bustling metropolis of Chennai, where she enrolled in college to pursue a degree in social work. It was here that she discovered her true calling—to advocate for the rights of marginalized communities and to fight against the injustices that plagued her society. Inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Meena became a vocal advocate for social change, organizing protests, and campaigns to raise awareness about issues such as caste discrimination, gender inequality, and access to education.
But Meena's journey was not without its challenges. As she delved deeper into her activism, she became the target of threats and harassment from powerful vested interests who sought to silence her voice. Undeterred, Meena refused to back down, drawing strength from the support of her community and the unwavering conviction in her cause.
Then, tragedy struck. In the midst of a peaceful protest against the forced eviction of a Dalit community from their ancestral land, Meena and her fellow activists were attacked by a mob of hired goons, intent on quashing their dissent. In the ensuing chaos, Meena was severely injured, sustaining multiple fractures and internal injuries.
For weeks, Meena lay in a hospital bed, fighting for her life. But even in the face of adversity, her spirit remained unbroken. Surrounded by her loved ones, she drew strength from their prayers and well-wishes, determined to overcome the odds and continue her fight for justice.
Slowly, against all odds, Meena began to recover. With each passing day, her strength returned, and with it, her resolve to continue her activism. But the attack had taken its toll, both physically and emotionally. The scars, both seen and unseen, served as a constant reminder of the dangers that she faced in pursuit of her ideals.
Yet, despite the trauma that she had endured, Meena refused to be cowed into silence. If anything, the attack had only strengthened her resolve to redouble her efforts in the fight for justice. Drawing upon her own experiences of adversity, Meena became a beacon of hope for others who had suffered similar injustices, inspiring them to stand up and speak out against oppression.
Today, Meena Nambi is a living testament to the power of resilience and the indomitable nature of the human spirit. Through her courage and determination, she has transformed herself from a victim into a survivor, using her voice to shine a light on the injustices that continue to plague her society. Though the road ahead may be fraught with challenges, Meena remains undeterred, knowing that as long as there are those who are willing to stand up and fight for what is right, there is hope for a brighter, more just future for all.
