Do you think Preston and Macey reconnected?
I would love to say yes! At least here and there but I think life just ends up getting in the way.
There’s no mention of Preston in the UWS epilogue. I think they just realized that it was kind of a fling. People grow up and they grow apart and I think that’s what happened with them.
Macey was super busy for awhile with the secret service and then she ends up helping her mother with her business. So I really think that Macey just didn’t have time for Preston, much less dating at all.
But no doubt they will always care for each other. I just think it was the case of right person, wrong time.

(gallagher girls)
im doing the uh, main characters first so i'll put the side ones in a different post
bex has experience in like, dancing stuff. At some point her parents took her to some country and she was 'undercover' as a ballet student to spy on the instructor, but continued the lessons afterwards bc she enjoyed it. Tried literally every other type of dance too.
liz has adhd. most people dont notice bc they're used to it, but liz got it checked out and she got diagnosed. doesnt affect her very much tho.
cammie can bake simpler stuff like cookies or plain muffins but nothing harder, and zach can cook like no one's business. they have the best dinner parties.
macey picked up drawing as a hobby (like, light sketching, a bit of painting) when she was free and now has loads of sketchbooks of both finished and unfinished drawings, and they're actually really good.
preston started taking krav maga after the whole circle incident, one of the reasons why he's a little buffer now.
zach and cammie regularly mix up their clothes bc cammie keeps taking the former's and zach can somewhat fit into cammie's biggest shirt. its just a little too short.
bex confessed to liz secretly around when cammie disappeared, because she starts realizing that in the business everyones lives are too short and she couldn't lose the slight chance of being with liz, and they were kinda unofficially dating around when they went to rescue preston, so it was never really mentioned by cammie, and started dating officially after graduation.
macey likes to go on coffee dates and picnic dates and amusement park dates and roseville is perfect for that so preston visits ofte so that they can go on nice dates.
bex and macey are chess buddies.
cammie and zach go with bex and liz and preston and macey on triple dates, or just double dates depending on which pair is free.
bex likes mint chocolate chip ice cream, liz likes caramel ice cream or good ol' vanilla, cammie prefers vanilla or chocolate, macey likes cookies and cream
they also are the reason why every summer the grocery runs out of ice cream. they consume unhealthy amounts of it.

Gallagher Girls ships as Taylor Swift songs
Cammie x Zach - Afterglow
Tell me that you're still mine
Tell me that we'll be just fine
Even when I lose my mind
I need to say
Tell me that it's not my fault
Tell me that I'm all you want
Even when I break your heart
Liz x Bex - You Belong With Me
If you could see that I'm the one
Who understands you
Been here all along
So, why can't you see?
You belong with me
You belong with me
Macey x Preston - Miss Americana And The Heartbreak Prince
Ah, ah, ah
No cameras catch my muffled cries
I counted days, I counted miles
To see you there
To see you there
And now the storm is coming,
Josh x Cammie - Don't You
Hey, I knew I'd run into you somewhere
It's been a while, I didn't mean to stare
I heard she's nothin' like me
I'm sure she'll make you happy
Bex x Cammie - Dorothea
Hey Dorothea
Do you ever stop and think about me?
When it was calmer
Skipping the prom
Just to piss off your mom
And her pageant schemes
And damn, Dorothea
They all wanna be ya
But are you still the same soul
I met under the bleachers?
Rachel x Matt - We were happy
When it was good, baby, it was good, baby
We showed 'em all up
No one could touch the way we laughed in the dark
Talkin' 'bout your daddy's farm we were gonna buy someday
And we were happy
We were happy
Joe x Matt - I know places
'Cause they got the cages, they got the boxes
And guns
They are the hunters, we are the foxes
And we run
Joe x Rachel - Everything has changed
Cause all I know is we said, "Hello"
And your eyes look like comin' home
All I know is a simple name
Everything has changed
All I know is you held the door
And you'll be mine and I'll be yours
All I know since yesterday
Is everything has changed
Townsend x Abby - Style
You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style
Townsend x Catherine - Illicit Affairs
And that's the thing about illicit affairs
And clandestine meetings and stolen stares
They show their truth one single time
But they lie, and they lie, and they lie
A million little times

Just One Look at You : A Macey McHenry x Preston Winters fic
I wrote this in honor of Eri's aka zachsjacket birthday. She is one of the biggest Gallagher Girls' fans. I love her so much I wanted to write her a Macey x Preston fic with one of her aus. /cough/ her aus are killers.
au: Macey works as the First Daughter's bodyguard. Preston is an Ambassador now. There is this ball at the White House where both of them are to go. They haven't met for the past four years. And of course, where there is a Gallagher girl, there is always trouble.
NOTE: IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE SERIES, DON'T READ IT. IT CONTAINS SPOILERS.
  Macey
Theguests were already arriving; Macey could hear them from upstairs, from all theway to Julie’s room where she was currently at. She was taught well how to.
Juliewas still applying more make-up to her already make-uped face. Macey didn’t try to tell her to stop. That she wasalready pretty to begin with. That all the make-up she was putting on her face was too much to even begin with.
But Macey stood silent and calm. Like a bodyguard needed to be.
They teach you a lot of rules at the Secret Service big gray building. Not that Macey wasn’t used to too many rules. She was in fact a Gallagher girl. She had graduated from those stone walls and followed the rules (leaving special occasions aside) up until the end. Up until Liz Sutton gave her memorable speech. Up until she had turned around and seen that one boy – that one boy she so desperately wanted to see – wasn’t there.
“Do you like this color?” Julie turned to say to her. Macey wanted to badly to say “no honey that doesn’t go with your skin color.” One of the rules she was taught at the SS was that you always agree with your protégée.  Unless, of course, her life was in danger. So she smiled and said, “it suits you,” and closed her mouth.
Tonight was supposed to be calm. There were not a lot of guards, just the usual. Some around the perimeter, some inside the White House. She was one of the few that were authorized to be near the first daughter. She had earned her job.
She could foresee the evening; Julie would dance and she would say hi to every important person inside the room below them because she was supposed to do that. She would be seen beside her father and she would smile all throughout the evening without someone suspecting she rather be someplace else.
Macey knew how that felt. And she didn’t miss it one bit.
She sometimes saw her father. In dinners. In arranged meetings that his personal assistant called to arranged. But not one time he brought her mother. Macey believed, no, she knew, her mother had been very disappointed to hear she would not be going into politics. She had told Macey she was born to be in the spotlight, not in the background.
She couldn’t complain about her job either. She wanted this job as much as she liked not to be in the same room with her mother. But maybe there was a small part inside that craved for those adventures she so much enjoyed while leaving inside those stone walls. She missed her friends. She missed the laughs and the easiness of their friendship.
She knew where they all were. She kept contact but felt she was the one that was living a different life. Whenever they met to hang out (those rare time none of them had missions to do) Macey heard all kinds of stories; it could be Bex talking about a coup on the far east of Asia or Liz talking about how she was able to create a lipstick that could also be used as a knife. But the stories she craved more were from the Chameleon itself. Cammie always stayed quiet (in comparison to Bex and Liz) and listened with a grin on her face. And when Bex and Liz could finally take a breath, they would turn to Cammie, expecting. She was Cammie the Chameleon – probably the most famous Gallagher girl after Gillian. She was the one who got kidnapped by the Circle and returned alive. She was the one a group of terrorist/assassins wanted to kill for a whole year (and then some time later). She fell in love with a boy and got heartbroken. She fell in love with another boy and nowadays they are known as the greatest team in spy history.
Macey knew Cameron Morgan always had stories to tell.
But she also knew Cameron Morgan thought bad things happened around her because of herself.  And all of her missions ended with someone dead.
A voice sounded inside her ear. “Is the Hound ready?” She replied by a simple “yes.”
The ball room was full with people Macey had seen before. She knew who cheated with whom, who ate with their mouths open and who wanted to kill the President of the United States but didn’t do it because they were too afraid.
She looked down at her simple black pants and white shirt and sighed. She missed wearing skirts. But she sure didn’t miss the pumps her mother forced her to wear. Macey believed in comfortable shoes and said they would take you to important places.
And then she thought of that single boy who didn’t care if she wore sweatpants, jeans or a skirt.
As quickly those thoughts appeared, she shooed them away because it still felt too raw.
She smoothed her white button-down and whispered in Julie’s ear. “Showtime.”
Preston
He thought of puppies. And Macey McHenry.
Not in the same sentence or the same thought. Different sentences, different thoughts.
He also would like to ask Liz Sutton if something existed that could erase sentences from his head and to never, ever be able to put some words together so his life wouldn’t be in danger. He then thought if the Gallagher Academy invented something that could read minds, and if Macey knew how to, he was seriously dead dead.
The puppies’ thought was because currently in front of him, there was a woman giving mini Golden Retrievers outside of the White House. He was keen to take one but thought again. What would they say if he entered the White House with a Golden Retriever in his arms, drooling all over his suit?
In fact he wouldn’t care about what all of the guests would think. He only cared about one girl. And she was the bodyguard of the first daughter.
And that was when Macey McHenry came into his mind.
Truthfully, she was always in his mind. Since that day their fathers introduced them and told them that one day they would lead the country.
Of course no one imagined Preston’s father, Ambassador Winters, was part of a secret organization that wanted a World War III. Not even Preston imagined it. Not until he was inside the most secured prison in the world. Because of his father.  Everything always led back to his father.
He was here because of his father as well.
And some part hoped to see those blue eyes and black hair appear.
He entered the room (without the puppy it is important to say) and went directly to shake hands with the President. It was not unusual or weird to shake hands with the man that ruled the great country of America.
“Good to see you, Ambassador Winters,” the President said.
“Likewise, Mr. President.”
“Did you get the document my assistant sent you for the meeting next month?”
“I did. The Prime Minister should get prepared for those big words, Mr. President.”
The President only laughed and shook his head. He then turned to shake another man’s hand.
Preston’s body gave a complete 360° in search of her. But he knew better. He knew she was probably watching him from so close but so far. He knew she was in the shadows looking at the lady that was right now smiling at him.
Macey
She wasn’t one of those girls that hyperventilate whenever a hot guy passed by. She proved that fact when Zachary Goode appeared before the doors of the Gallagher Academy.
She understood why every girl between the ages of 12 to 17 felt breathless when Zach went to classes and answered questions that teachers asked him.
She totally did.
But she didn’t understand why she felt breathless when looking at Preston Winters.
It wasn’t supposed to happen. Being the daughter of the Vice-president of the United States, meeting boys, it was tend to happen. But she never imagined Preston Winters.  One minute she was discussing kissing babies with him (she admitted to be thinking about his lips some places else) and the other they were kissing inside a train.
To be honest with herself, she felt good whenever they talked and he made her kind-of laugh. A boy had made her laugh (if you see from her point of view, she did pass most of her time in a girl school). He was cute in a way that a puppy looked at you half asleep.
But he was also very, very hot in a suit.
But right now Preston Winters’s smile wasn’t directed to her but to the first daughter of the United States.
                                               ----
Her insides gave a little flip when she first had spied Preston and that black tuxedo he was wearing. He looked… hot. Macey would never voice out those thoughts in front of him she was sure. She thought of those years ago when they were on their parents’ campaign tour and Preston was just… Preston; skinny and kind of dork-ish.
But still she could see the same old Preston behind those clothes. She could see it on the easy smile he always gave, the way he carried himself in the room, and how his eyes were searching for something.
She hoped he was searching for her.
I mean he probably knew she was working as the First Daughter’s bodyguard, right? He probably knew she would be here and he would be here and they would see each other for the first time since high school.
Since high school…
Lots of things had changed. She bet Preston wouldn’t even recognize her right now. Her hair was longer and blacker. She had grown taller. (But definitely Preston had grown MORE taller). Also she was in black pants and a white shirt. And Preston, he always saw her in dresses and fancy clothes.
He wouldn’t recognize her.
                                             -----
Her eyes went around the room. As far as she knew, nothing unusual was happening. Important people still talked with more important people, fake smiles were everywhere and the music was making her sleepy. But she remained standing in the shadows doing her job.
A movement caught her eye. A man was approaching the door that led to the gardens. She saw how he turned around to see if anyone was watching him and stepped off into the night. He didn’t know there was one Gallagher girl watching his every move.
“Did anyone see the man exiting the East door?” she spoke, knowing her partners were around the room as well.
Foster was the first one to answer. “Negative, McHenry. What did you see exactly?”
“Just a man. Leaving.”
“Maybe he went to his car.” That came from Peterson.
“Maybe,” she said, not really convinced. Maybe he probably did go to his car, maybe he needed to go because he received horrible news from a family member. That’s the thing: maybe.  But if you went to a spy school, the first thing you learnt is that never leave anything to maybe.
So she stepped out of the shadows and followed the man.
Preston
“So Mr. Winters, do you want to dance?”
He did not. But he couldn’t say that to the First Daughter of the United States of America. Also he could see the President watching them right now. He felt shivers down his back. He only came to see her and now he was three seconds about to dance with the First Daughter.
Damn it, Preston.
It was in that moment that he caught long, black hair in his peripheral vision. It was weird, he thought. The only sight of black hair reminded him of too many things. Pleasant or not pleasant. Macey McHenry was held too close to his heart, but he didn’t know if she was someone that could break it or someone that could heal it.  It was too far broken to experience any breaking again. He hoped the latter came out to be true.
He was driving himself crazy, to be honest. The sight of black hair held such a strong connection to Macey? Would he be like this every time he saw black hair? He was definitely going crazy.
But then he heard it.
Her voice.
Of course she wasn’t talking to him. Of course she wasn’t even close. But he heard it. He heard her say, “I’m going to follow him.” It was like her voice was in the air and traveled especially to him. But he had a feeling the him in that sentence wasn’t referring to Preston.
He scanned the room but he didn’t see any long black hair coming his way. What he did see was long black hair going through the East door. Into the night.
His heart gave a thump of acknowledgement. It had been far too long Preston felt his heart give anything. Since that time he realized his father was the bad guy, he knew nothing was what it seemed. And his heart became just a small piece of what it was once.
But the only sight of Macey McHenry’s hair kicked it to motion again.
“Ambassador Winters?” He had forgotten the First Daughter was in front of him, talking to him it seemed for quite a while now. He looked at her then and she was beaming; a smile so bright birds could start singing out of nowhere. And he felt his life as two roads in that moment. At the end of the first one he could see himself with the First Daughter, dating her, living his life with her. He could be happy. He could live a great life. But at the end of the second one, he could see himself running after the mystery of Macey McHenry and then it blacked out. He didn’t know how it would come out if he did follow her out into the night. And that was the thing. He didn’t know but he felt like he could know. That small window to the light gave me the good of goosebumps.
So he excused himself to the First Daughter and went off to find Macey.
                                             -----
He was lost. Probably. Okay. Yes, he was lost.
How he became lost at the White House was unknown to him. He remembered running after Macey. Opening that door and stepping into the dark side. Of course, Macey was not waiting for him so when he stepped outside; there was no one out there. So he ran. In a tuxedo. He was definitely sweating.
He had run for like seemed hours but probably only five minutes. (He didn’t exercise a lot so right now he was short of breath).
He was one hundred percent lost.
He was now sitting down on a bench outside… somewhere.
He had no idea how to find Macey now. She was a Gallagher girl so probably she could disappear out of sight like a magic trick. Oh wait, no. That was Cammie. Either way, Gallagher girls had skills like that so Macey definitely had some magic tricks up her sleeve.
He sighed. What was he going to do? He had all the intention to catching up with her. And explaining why he didn’t come to her graduation ceremony. And why he didn’t contact after those years they spent apart. But as soon those thoughts came to his mind, he thought why she didn’t contact him as well? Why did she remain silent?
His spirts went down right that second. Maybe she didn’t want to see him. Maybe she was done with him. He looked back at that moment when he caught the glimpse of her hair. Had she seen him? Had she known he was there? Probably not.
He then heard a noise. He connected the noise with someone walking on the grass. Oh, shit. Someone was coming towards him. He waited until finally a man appeared.
“Senator Garrett?” Preston asked.
“Oh, Preston, hey,” the Senator replied. With the little light the outside lamps were showering on them, Preston could see the Senator’s sweat coming down his forehead. What the hell.  “What are you doing out here, boy?” Preston hated being called a boy.
He refrained of rolling his eyes at the man and lied, “Just enjoying the night.” He smiled. “And you, sir?”
The Senator, Preston could see, was moving his hands a lot. “I guess smart minds think alike.” And then he winked. Preston felt like in those awful bad movies sometimes he saw when he was close to falling asleep and he put them on so they’d bore him out of his mind and finally giving himself to the God of Dreams.
It was then that something fell out of the Senator’s hands. And Preston felt sick to his stomach.
The Senator picked the item before Preston could see it. But Preston did see it. And he felt afraid all of a sudden. He gulped down his nervousness and pretended he didn’t see anything so the knife the Ambassador held wasn’t suddenly pointing at him.
But somehow the Senator thought he didn’t want to take his chances and revealed the knife out in the open for everyone (Preston) to see. The Senator sighed, like he was tired of doing… what? Preston didn’t know. Then, the man said something that smacked Preston right in the chest.
“The girl and now you. I guess I have to use this again.”
Preston hadn’t seen the knife perfectly when it fell from the Senator’s hand, but when he put it out in the light, Preston could see the knight. Perfectly.
And it was dressed in blood.
 Macey
The smell of blood sickened her. Her own blood.
How stupid she was to be caught off guard? She hadn’t seen the man—she now knew the man was actually Senator Garrett – coming. He literally came out of nowhere. If she didn’t know better, she would say he could have gone to Blackthorne Academy when he was young. But she crossed off that train of thought when he had slashed her with a small knife, hitting no vital spots. She knew Blackthorne boys were trained to kill. And the Senator left her alive.
That was his mistake.
Macey tried to stand up. She used the wall to support her as she went up on her feet. She was so going to give that man a lesson. No one messed with Macey McHenry.
She walked towards the path she saw the Senator go. Her side hurt because of the knife slash, but that wouldn’t stop her to reaching the man’s side and punch him in the face.
When she was nearing the corner to turn, she heard voices and one of them sounded so much like a six-foot-two tuxedo-ed guy she just saw inside the ballroom, safe from what was outside those walls. But her ears didn’t lie to her and she knew Preston Winters was in that courtyard with a man with a knife.
She spied the scene behind the corner, in the shadows. Garrett was talking about smart mind and whatnot when she saw the knife fell off his hands. Stupid. She saw Preston’s eyes seeing the object. But seconds later, he appeared ignorant of the scene that happened. Smart.
But Garrett was very stupid and very much desperate about his position in the country that he left nothing for chance. He held the knife, pointing it towards Preston. “The girl and now you. I guess I have to use this again.”
Macey chose that moment to come out into the light.
She let out a laugh that could be heard all to Georgetown where Cammie was. The two men turned around when they heard her. The Senator’s eyes grew. He truly believed he had done some damaged. I guess it was the little fact that she went to a spy school and was friends with Cameron Morgan – that tend to go into all kinds of trouble – that didn’t sum up with his equations. She let him have one smile off of her.
Then her eyes drew towards the lonely figure sitting on that bench. And her smile disappeared. Preston Winters was angry. A lot.
What the hell?
She ignored the look he was giving her and turned her attention back to Garrett.
“You have to at least be sure you kill the person you stab, Garrett.”
“You again,” he narrowed his eyes, the knife now pointed at her.
“Fortunately you suck with a knife, so I’m not worry about you pointing it at me.”
“You should be. Look at your shirt, the blood is spilling.” Garrett laughed so hard it turned to a cough.
“You’re bleeding…” it was the first time she had heard Preston Winters’ voice in four years.
“No kidding, Sherlock.” She rolled her eyes at him and went back to studying Garrett. From the way he was standing, he had zero to none experience holding a knife or being in a fight. He was sweating like crazy, so that meant he was nervous and anxious.  This was such a piece of cake for Macey. She began to talk, “Did you really think you could achieve to kill Vice President Carroll, Garrett? Last year when you were so close to being Vice President of the United States and it came to those last seconds and you. Didn’t. Win. Did you plan your revenge since then? Did you think about stabbing Vice President Carroll multiple times and then planting the weapon inside the White House? Of course you’re so many levels of stupid that you didn’t even wear gloves so your fingerprints couldn’t be traced.” The Senator looked down in that moment to his fingers. “Yeah exactly. Watch a little more TV at least, Garrett.
“And then you make the horrible mistake of hurting me without even checking if I was in grave danger of blood loss. Rule number one: you don’t leave anyone hanging, Garrett.”
“Are you done, little girl? Because I’d like to tell you some things. First of all, I knew I wasn’t going to win the election. And even before then I knew that dumbass Carroll was going to get the job. So I planned a little something. Months before the election I gave that dumbass a choice: I’d step down but he would have to do everything I said he needed to do. Or else I’d tell the good ol’ Mr. President how his little friend had pictures with a woman who was not his wife,” Garrett gasped mockingly, “indeed, Ms. McHenry—in compromising positions.”
“You threatened him?”
“Indeed.”
“So he works for you?”
“You are getting the hang of this, Ms. McHenry.”
“Wait… so you…”
He smiled. “I wasn’t going to kill Carroll tonight.”
“Who were you…” And then it clicked. When she last saw Carroll, he was talking to the President. He was smiling that snake of a smile he had and was shaking the President’s hand. “I was just a diversion?”
“Of course.”
“Fuck,” Macey mumbled. “You knew I was going to follow you.”
“We have seen how you work, Ms. McHenry. Nothing gets out of your sight. And you take your job seriously. So of course you were going to follow a suspicious man who did suspicious stuff out into the night.”
She sighed. “What a crappy night. Did you hear all of that, boys?” She spoke into her ear piece.
“Loud and clear, McHenry.”
“What are you doing?” Garrett furrowed his eyebrows, watched her carefully like she was a wild animal ready to jump.
She turned to him with a bored look. “Let me hold that for you, Senator.” She kicked the knife out of his hand and punched the living crap out of him. “There.”
“Macey?”
Her eyes went to Preston. She didn’t forget he was there. How could she forget? She had been afraid of his life as soon as she saw the Senator point the knife in his direction. It was then she stepped out of the shadows. To protect Preston. She will always protect Preston.
“You’re bleeding.” He kept saying over and over again.
“I’m okay. No big deal, Winters.”
Peterson’s voice came alive inside her ear. “We have Carroll.”
A sigh of relief left her body. “Finally.”
“The Eagle is safe.” The President was safe, Macey thought. Preston was safe, she was safe. Everyone was safe.
“Oh no.”
And then she passed out.
Preston
I sat beside Macey’s hospital bed. He never wanted to experience what he went through tonight. When he saw Macey, he felt so angry she had appeared the moment Garrett had a knife.
And the blood…
He felt his heart fall and crumble to the ground. It almost broke to no repair. And when Macey passed out cold in the middle of the White House’s gardens, he felt like he couldn’t breathe. Every time he was with Macey McHenry, he felt like he couldn’t breathe.
“What are you doing here?” Macey’s voice sounded so weak, so unlike Macey. Preston would never put together the name Macey McHenry besides the word weak. She was anything but weak. She was a force of nature that left damages behind without caring.
“Watching over you.”
“That sounds so creepy, Preston.”
“I do not care.”
She stopped for a second and assessed him silently. He bet he looked all dirty and his usual “cool” hair was all out of place. He didn’t want his first meeting with Macey to happen like this.
“I’ve missed you.”
He thought he heard wrong. For so many different reasons, he thought those words were not coming out of Macey’s mouth. That sweet pink mouth he so wanted to kiss for the past four years.
He smiled down at her. “Same here, Macey.”
“Did you really?”
He felt something was about to happen. “Really.”
“Then why. You stupid. Asshole. Didn’t. Call. ME?” She yelled like she didn’t just experience a knife in her body, didn’t pass out because of the quantity of blood she loss. “Four years, Preston. Dammit. Did you know how many times I thought about you over these past four years? Jesus.”
Preston knew his mouth was wide open. He just sat with his mouth hanging open, not believing her words. Her true feelings.
“I was embarrassed,” he whispered.
She stared at him, compelling him to go on.
“When you went to rescue me from prison, I had just find out my father was one of the bad ones. I felt like I had some part of bad guy in myself. I was the son of someone who wanted to kill Cammie. Your friend, Macey. I couldn’t look at you. And I couldn’t withstand you looking at me with hatred. That’s why I didn’t call and why I didn’t contact you for the past four years. But it didn’t change my love for you. It would never change my love for you.”
Tears were streaming down Macey’s face.
“Oh fuck. I’m sorry, Macey. I didn’t want to make you cry. Fuck. Shit. Oh god, now I’m saying bad words in front of you. I didn’t want our first meeting to happen like this! I should have bought that puppy and given it to you.”
“You want to give me a puppy?” She mumbled between breaths.
“Only if you want one.”
She nodded. “I do.”
“Okay.” He waited and three seconds later, he asked, “Do you want me to leave?”
She shook her head. And took his hand. “Don’t ever leave me again.”
His breath stopped. His heart stopped, but for very different reasons. It was not because his heart broke or because he felt pain. It was because of five simple words spoken by the girl he loved.
He squeezed her hand. “I have run for too long. It’s time for me to come back home. ”
                                               -----
Preston and Macey were still holding hands when the commotion arrived.
“Oh my God, Macey! Are you okay?”
“Wow, Macey, you’re looking good.”
“McHenry, good to see you’re still as badass as you were when we were little.”
“Oopsy Daisy.”
That last came from Liz Sutton who just hit herself on Zachary Goode’s back. Cammie Morgan and Bex Baxter were wearing worried looks at Macey. They neared her bed and sat down on it. Cammie took Macey’s hand that wasn’t the one she was holding Preston’s.
“Are you okay?” Cammie asked.
“I’ll survive.”
“God, Macey. You gave us a fright when Bex’s father called and told us something fun had just happened at the White House’s ball.”
“He was there?” Macey asked, looking both at Cammie
It was Bex who replied, eyeing Macey and Preston’s hands clasped together. “I guess you had other things in mind at the ball.”
Neither of them said anything.
But then something came to Preston’s mind. “Wait. Why are you all together? I thought Liz and Bex were back in England?”
“We came to visit Macey and Cammie. Surprise?” Liz said.
Zach made a fake cough.
“And Goode too.” Bex smiled at him. Zach nodded.
“Zach and I picked them up at the airport just a while ago when Bex’s father called us and we came rushing to the hospital. What is wrong with you, Macey? He had a knife!” Cammie shouted.
“Relax. It isn’t like we haven’t experienced this before. I remind you there were a few times we were held at gun point,” Macey replied in a tired voice.
“You’re tired. Shit.” Preston pressed a hand on her forehead.
Macey sighed. “That feels good.”
“Gosh, you are burning up. I’ll call the nurse.”
“No, don’t go.”
It was Zach who offered he would call the nurse.
“We’re going to let you rest, Macey. But we will be just outside if you want anything, so ask away if you do want something.” Cammie said. The Gallagher girls gave one last look at Macey and exited the room.
“Sleep, Macey," he whispered after they left.
“But…” Her eyes were already closing.
“I’ll be here when you wake up” was the last thing he said before Macey fell asleep.

"I'd like to talk to you about your education." "My education?" the girl repeats, somewhat incredulously. "I don't think so." Macey laughs. "Look kid. I just caught you stealing a cell phone for kicks and it's not even 2:00 on Friday afternoon. I can call the cops, or you can come with me and I can tell you about a school that just might be looking for someone exactly like you. Your choice, but you have about five seconds to make it."

For the four of you waiting to read "Don't Believe Everything You Know," here's a promise that I'm finally starting to edit all 50,000 words of it, and an excerpt I'm probably not going to change too much.

Note
Do you think macey and preston reconnected after uws?
I would like to say yes at least for a little while. Before life got in the way.
I don’t think there’s any mention of Preston in the epilogue so I just think that Macey got too busy taking over for her mom and then working in the Secret Service.
