10. The cast, especially David (who knows the ending) and Finn (who might know something), are always so happy talking about Byler. They wouldn’t be if Will ended up dying alone as a sad gay. Also no one likes milkvan except maybe Millie unless she’s acting… Caleb even said ”Lucas and Max’s love is real unlike Milkvan’s”.

9. Mike has been queercoded throughout the whole series. Especially with queer colors, he spent s4 dressed as a gay pride flag. Also bi and pan colors are associated with him. Also Ted’s ”our son with a girl?” and everything Eddie said about forced conformity etc

8. Byler parallelling other romantic ships like Jancy, Jopper and Lumax. I’m not listing examples because there are SO MANY! (Also Milkvan parallelling all the platonic/dead ships)

7. Mileven being bones. We have nothing that shows their actual, deep love they’re ”supposed to have”. We don’t know what Mike loves about El and what El loves about Mike. We don’t know what makes them a compatible match romantically. We only know things that don’t make them compatible: El feeling the need to lie to Mike, Mike feeling embarrassed of his nerdy self with El, El feeling unloved by Mike, Mike feeling inferior to El…

6. The desert scenes. The triple take ofc, but also the car roof top convo with Will (jancy parallell). Will is talking about how it’s scary to say how you really feel because what if they don’t like the truth. And Mike NODS. If the truth was that he loved El exactly like El wanted, El would like that truth. So what is the truth Mike is worried that El doesn’t like…?

5. Mike’s monologue. He had to be pushed by Will to open his mouth. He lied about him loving her at first sight. He copied the t-shirt part from Eddie. He kept saying she’s his superhero which El doesn’t wanna be. He didn’t include anything personal about El and their relationship after the t-shirt thing… Also El didn’t seem to like what she heard and their love didn’t save the world. And they didn’t even talk after it. And while filming it they didn’t focus on just the couple (like they did with byler in s2 shed scene) and they let Finn improvise as if it wasn’t that important (as important as the van scene…)

4. Mike would be so poorly written if he wasn’t into Will and I don’t think the Duffers would just ignore his character. Also all the lip glances and heart eyes wouldn’t make sense.

3. Byler/Milkvan contrast. When Will was gone and they found his ”body”, Mike heard Will breathing in a radio channel and believed he was alive. He didn’t rest for a second, he did everything he could to find him. When he thought El was dead, he didn’t go looking for her, even tho a couple times he actually saw her. Also in s3 when Milkvan had a fight, Max said Mike will be crawling back to her begging for forgiveness in no time. Instead Mike laid on a sofa and ate and complained. When Byler had a fight… well we all know what Mike did then.

2. Mike and Will’s relationship has always been different from other friendships. They’ve said it themselves (”pls don’t tell the others, they wouldn’t understand”, ”Hawkins is not the same without you”, ”you make her me feel better for being different”). Also their scenes together have always been a big deal (van scene took an entire day to film, crazy together was written before s1 was even filmed) and they are shot in a really romantic way (music, lighting…)

1. In the beginning of s3, Will said to Joyce that he’s not gonna fall in love. That made his arc about romance. We know now that he already fell in love, but he doesn’t believe it’s requited. If s5 goes from ”i don’t think he loves me back” to ”he doesn’t love me back” we get literally nowhere and the entire storyline (since s1) would be useless and waste of time and money. They wouldn’t make Will suffer 4 seasons and then suffer some more. So believe me when I say it goes ”I don’t think he loves me back” to ”He does love me back!”

(I think there's another moment where she's associated with the pan flag colors but after looking for an hour, I've given up.)

I also don't consider this to be overthinking especially since this isn't even the first time something like this has happened in the show. In Knock, Knock, Knocking on Hooty's Door, there's this scene with Amity (who's confirmed to be a lesbian) and Luz (who's confirmed to be bi) where they have the bi and lesbian flags behind them

I think that the complaints about Vickie are less "she is too similar to Robin" (bc girl literally had half a scene of screentime. we have no idea who she is.) and more "once again there are only two (2) explicitly queers in the show (I will always be a Will should've come out to Jonathan truther) so of course they will be forced together".

She was only barely introduced. It feels a lot like the only reason she exists is so Robin can be with someone. The Duffers already have problems dealing with their current (pretty big) cast, it does not bode well for Vickie's characterisation tbh (I'm sorry, I love him as much as the next person. But Argyle's one (1) personality trait is literally. Weed. So it doesn't seem improbable that Vickie's one (1) personality trait would be becoming Robin's girlfriend. Which would suck for obvious reasons. Also, like. They are already infamous for their treatment of queer(-coded) characters)

It would also take away from stobin time, which is an already established dynamic everyone (if you don't you are simply factually incorrect sorry not sorry) loves. The cast is huge, the Duffers will have to pick and choose who they want to focus on, and it seems way more probable that those will be the established mcs (Will & El especially) and not Robin's side-character love interest. I mean, it would honestly be bad storytelling if they did that in the last season.

Especially since the straight romances are so good. Lumax? Absolute banger. The early Stancy development? So good. Jancy? Pretty sure there's a poll out there about how they are one of the most well-liked couples. Mileven? Multiple seasons establishing groundwork before they even get together. To have Vickie not even be a character before she is thrown into a relationship with the only lesbian feels a bit like a slap in the face. Like, at least Steve had a bunch of character development after the breakup but that can't happen with Vickie because it's the last season and they really have other stuff to worry about 😪 Like, idk, at least everyone else had a choice, which is part of what makes those romances so impactful (lumax, jancy, etc etc), while Robin - on the count of being a lesbian and Vickie being the only other sapphic character - really.....doesn't.

(Plus maybe it's the aro in me speaking, but I found it kinda cool to have a canonically queer character whose story arc is not completely focused on romance for once)

I also think this part of the reason why ronance got so big. Nancy already *is* her own person. Nobody can look at Nancy and say "her only personality is being queer" or "she's only here so Robin doesn't end up alone because we obviously need to pair everyone off somehow". A relationship between them would be another facette of their development, not the one thing that defines them. (Like. Her being bi is literally the only reason Vickie is even in the season. Sorry not sorry.)

But I mean. The season isn't out. We barely saw the two interact. My expectations are already below ground level. Maybe they will surprise me.

where there is more detail into all the little things that could be queercoding for foreshadowing Byler endgame!

but in the end the proof I think is more compelling is how the narrative is written for the characters and how much time they make Mike & Will spend together in the show and have heart to hearts instead of Mike & El, I think that if mileven was going to be the endgame ship they have done everything wrong for them and haven't shown them really being in love in the show, you only need to compare how the other relationships like Lumax, jancy and jopper are very different from how they wrote Mike x El in the show to see that they are probably not going to be the endgame ship for Mike!

they also put this precise parallel in the show and it wouldn't make any sense to purposefully write it in the show if it meant nothing

this is how Finn decided to act in the van scene while looking at Will and listening to Will talk about his own feelings for Mike, even if Mike is confused and thinks that those are El's feelings they are not, not entirely!

Mike has fallen in love with those words and Will lying about the painting in that way is a writing choice that is the same used in the movie IT with the couple Ben and Beverly and it is such a big lie that it can't be put there and not come out eventually...

Also they put these moments between them in the show and it wouldn't make sense if it wasn't to build a romance imo

+ they didn't show El responding to Mike's I love you after the monologue and even made her look weirdly at Mike... why are there still problems between them at this point? there is something else going on...

they also filmed the monologue with Will in frame when Mike says "i love you" ... that is an intentional choice that makes the moment between Mike and El very very weird... and for the whole speech Mike was told by Will to initiate it, he didn’t do it on his own... that's another choice of the writers

if byler is not the endgame couple they fucked up mileven so bad that if I was a mileven shipper I would be furious!

Also they queercoded Will in the previous seasons to show that he was queer secretly... like there is a rainbow in Will's Ghostbusters costume and he's the only one with the rainbow, they make Joyce talk about the rainbow ship he drew when he was little, there is also a rainbow when he destroys Castle Byers in s3... there is a girl with a rainbow belt behind him at rink o mania

and are doing the same thing for Mike putting him constantly near rainbows (LGBT symbol) and near open closets ( there is the saying "to come out of the closet") with one way sign because Mike stays in the closet this season imo... there is also a rainbow line connecting Will and Mike in the van scene!

they also used a rainbow for Vickie that is confirmed to be bisexual by the actress playing her and that is going to be with Robin next season :)

- Eddie having a crush on Steve in school, Eddie in the back glaring holes into the back of Tammy Thompson’s head because she’s allowed to be obviously smitten and he’s not, the absolute audacity of her. No one clocking it because he obviously has a crush on Tammy.

- Steve is a teacher, Eddie is a rockstar. None of their friends/fans/students believe that they’re dating.

- Metal band Corroded Coffin being TikTok famous in the 2020′s because of Eddie’s chaotic content. Steve appearing in the background, old fans of the band know exactly who Steve is, but the TikTok kiddies do not, leading to lots of theories.

since my Wednesday ship analysis is getting a lot of likes, here’s a… ✨Stranger Things kids ship analysis✨

Disclaimer: I will also write one about the teens and adults, but I didn’t want to make this post too long

Mileven: mileven’s reunion in season 2 was cute, but other than that I never really enjoyed their moments together. When I first watched season 1 and 2, I *sort of* shipped it, but I stopped in season 3 when they actually got together and I realized that they didn’t make a very good couple. Plus when they met in season 1, I never really saw the chemistry. It was just boy + girl = couple. There was nothing more to it than that. Rating: 2.5/10

Byler: byler is probably my favourite stranger things ship. They have definite chemistry and their relationship has been building up for 4 seasons. Mike doesn’t treat Will very well in some instances (iTs NoT mY fAuLt YoU dOnT lIkE gIrLs) but I believe that this is because Mike is taking out his anger about his sexuality on Will, and it is obvious that Mike cares about Will very much. Mike clearly suffers with extreme internalized homophobia, but once Mike learns to love himself for who he is, or even just except his sexuality, Mike and Will will make an adorable couple. Rating 9.5/10

Elmax: Elmax is probably one of the healthiest stranger things ships. Max helps El figure out that she is so much more than Mike’s girlfriend and Hopper’s daughter. Their relationship is beautiful whether you interpret it platonically, queer platonically, or romantically, because it is undeniable how much they care for each other. Almost half of Max’s happiest memories are with El, and El learned how to be herself with Max’s help. They bring out the best in each other and I think that’s adorable. Rating 8.5/10

Lumax: I think Lumax is a great ship because not only do Max and Lucas love each other romantically, but it is shown in season 3 that they also care for each other in a friendship type of way. What season 3 lacked in romantic Lumax moments, it made up with in moments that showed how they didn’t just want to go on dates by themselves and make out (*cough* mileven *cough*) but they enjoyed hanging out in more platonic ways as well, and were good at balancing their relationship with their friendship with the rest of the party. But I think we can all agree that season 4 was the best season for Lumax. It really showed how much they need each other and how empty they felt without each other. While Max is being vecnaed it doesn’t only show how much Max valued her moments with Lucas, but how much Lucas cared for her and how broken he felt when Vecna took her. If there’s one ship I know will be endgame, it’s Lumax. Rating 8.5/10

Elumax: Elumax is adorable, because it combines both my love for Elmax and my love for Lumax. El and Lucas both care about Max so much and I think that is really a beautiful thing. Rating: 9/10

Henderhop: I think that the idea of this ship is really cute, but when watching the show I just don’t see that much chemistry. It’s definitely a healthy ship, but I think of El and Dustin’s relationship as more of a platonic one than romantic. Rating 4.5/10

Hopclair: Hopclair is cute, and I see more chemistry than El and Dustin, but I don’t ship it that much. I do think that they care for each other deeply though, and I would love it if they had more time to bond over their love for Max. Rating 5.5/10

Byclair: I like the idea of this ship because Will and Lucas definitely care about each other a lot, and I am a firm believer in Will gay panicking when he sees Lucas play basketball, (plus we all know that Lucas is a bi king), but I still like the idea of them being platonic besties more than I like the idea of them being romantically involved. Plus I just can’t see Will growing to love anyone but Mike. Rating 4.5/10

Wheelclair: This would be cute, and I think that I ship it more than I ship Byclair, but i just don’t think Mike want to date a guy that isn’t Will. I still kind of ship it romantically, but mostly because of fanwork. Rating: 5.5/10

Henderclair: the main reason I don’t ship this, (along with this being the main reason I don’t ship Byclair and Wheelclair), is that I see them as just friends. I think the ship is cute in theory, but I just don’t see romantic feelings on either side of the relationship. Rating: 5/10

Duzie: Dustin and Suzie are really cute together and both care about eachother so much. We don’t see that many moments between them, which is the main reason that their rating isn’t higher, so let’s hope that suzie gets more screen time is season 5 🙏. Rating: 7/10
