been writing lottienat and doing a concerning amount of thinking about their characters so here you go:

friends with tai and van precrash. also knows about tai and van. Tai told her first and she pretended she didn’t know when van told her. she knows that they aren’t talking about it and doesn’t want to get in the middle

is kind of a loner. she doesn’t have a lot of friends and anyone she is friends with it’s sort of surface level

lesbian (obviously)

has a crush on Nat that no one knows about

hosts and pays for all the team events because her dad likes to throw money at her instead of parenting

let’s jackie plan all the team bonding type things at her house because she knows how much jackie likes doing that stuff

started hosting parties because one of the yellowjackets only nights got turned into something bigger and her parents are never home

tries to start conversations with Nat at school but gets weird about it every time and comes off as a bitch

uses soccer as an outlet for all her feelings

is super polite to service workers because she sees how her dad acts and is humiliated by it.

does everything out of genuine kindness and understanding

has an excellent gaydar with everyone except nat, who she’s convinced is straight. knew about taivan before they told her. knows about coach ben. she’s pretty sure there’s something going on between jackie and shauna too.

if they hadn’t crashed in 1996 would’ve loved buffy (her fav characters would’ve been faith and tara btw)

was super drunk at a party at her house in junior year and went to bum a cigarette off nat, complemented her hair, found out she cuts it herself, and then promptly forced nat into her bathroom to cut her bangs.

she absolutely worships nat. she agrees with her in arguments. runs after her when she storms off. defends her when people are being shitty, especially when she’s not around to defend herself. she thinks the absolute world of nat.

finds excuses to hangout with nat at parties (part of why nat knows she doesn’t talk shit unless someone really deserves it)

hasn’t hooked up with anyone. she never went through a phase of thinking she was straight and hasn’t met any other lesbians (besides tai and van)

firstly this is just actually them. like literally them. but let's get into it

lottie has all the conventions of being a popular girl barring most of the cattiness, mix that with the fact she's part of the soccer team -- YES i am positive she wears letterman's jackets when she isn't dressed up and is friends with other sports circles - the women's tennis team, basketball team (convince she'd play pick up games with them), volleyball team ... lottie KIND OF gives a fuck about academics but i just really see her leaning into the easy way sports culture allows her to socialize and form a circle of friends.

punk nat who plays soccer and ACTUALLY genuinely gives a shit about it, even though she thinks jock-types are meatheads. like, "i play this sport because i'm fucking good at it, but half of you guys are fucking stupid." definitely an extreme music snob who sticks to her own circle of friends, burnout-looking types (though she actually values academics... doesn't really come to class but studies when absolutely NOBODY is looking, because like everyone else she needs to get the fuck out of wiskayok).

they both play for the yellowjackets and their only real interactions are on the field, lottie might wave in the hallway or try and say "hi" but nat COMPLETELY cold shoulders her

lottie has a HUGE crush on nat, talking like, this goes back to middle school years when nat was somehow still 2 cool 4 school and still wasn't giving lottie the time of day. to be fair lottie had just had a major growth spurt and was still becoming acquainted with the sudden distance from her body to the ground .. she was in no position to be trying to befriend someone she thought was a 'cool kid'.

lottie's a jock but not a fuckboy about it, down to earth but you literally wouldn't know it because she's too busy attending keggers and it LOOKS like she's flirting with half of the student body when she's just.. an extremely kind and genuine person. even if she didn't like someone, not even remotely, she would still give them the time of day.

nat sees all of this and of course runs into lottie at after-game parties but does her ABSOLUTE BEST to avoid lottie, until eventually lot gets fed up with all of this pining from afar (or taivan intervenes, deus ex machina style) and lottienat ends up partnered the whole year for their lab class or some shit.

lottie isn't an idiot by any means but she definitely pretends to be because it ends up with nat having to spend MORE time after soccer practices with her working on their projects ... yes lottie is doing the Long Con to win nat over.

nat begrudgingly starting to think lottie isn't THAT bad when she finally lets lottie give her a ride home after a late-night study sesh and finds out lottie actually has decent music taste...

ugh cue the nail painting scene nat had with kevyn except now it's for lottie when lot gets bored with all the studying and starts coloring on her nails with sharpie

they win a game and lottie is like - "Uh, good job on the field today, dude..." to nat, who just looks at her like ???. later, in the locker room, lottie stuffs her head in her locker for a solid thirty seconds wondering why she called nat 'DUDE' of all things, until van is like... "you good?"

so.. yes.. girlfailure jock lottie who can totally be suave with other people but when she talks to nat she's so nervous about sounding cool she ends up making a fool out of herself.

lottie lies and says she "totallyyyyy knows what shoegaze is." and gets caught in it - nat's like: "why would you lie about that?", not mad but genuinely wondering what the point of making that up would be?? and lottie is like, "i just thought it'd make you hate me less if i knew what it was, i dunno." and what follows is HUGE because nat, at this point, has to admit: "lottie, what? i don't- i don't hate you." and now it's lottie's turn to be like ???!!!1!2??!

cue lottie being insufferable about this. nat will say something biting and sarcastic on the field and lottie will just ruffle her hair or grin because now she knows nat doesn't mean it, and nat is like - "i never should have told you i liked you." (this is interpreted platonically) and lottie is even MORE thrilled, like, "oh, so you LIKE me? guess i'm not so much of a pain in the ass after all..." (nat has totally called her this to her face at one point or another).

it takes maybe half the year or more for van to finally be like "dudebro, just fuckin' go for it." at a party and lottie, mildly sedated by shitty beer, approaches nat when she spots her smoking a cig alone.

lottie doesn't really smoke and nat bullies her for it a little ... except lottie looks kind of hot and nat thinks LOTTIE looks kind of hot, so she offers to show lottie a "cool party trick" and they shotgun the cig smoke ... yes lottie coughs after but not from the burn, entirely from the act itself and she's SO red and nat is INSANELY endeared by this

let's just say their regular study sessions at the Matthews' estate become a little less about studying after that... and since lottie doesn't have to play nearly as clueless she jots an answer down and nat is like, "wait - what the fuck?" but lottie uses her big brown eyes to make nat forgive her, especially since it was all to hog nat to herself anyway.

they definitely don't officially come out as dating, one day lottie's just chatting with her circle of jock friends in the hallway and sees nat coming so she pulls her over and slings her arms around her, hugging her from behind, and yes, some jocks are meatheads, but these are lottie's friends and lottie is hugged up against her so... nat's not really going to complain.

in conclusion: jock!lottie wins over punk!nat by kind of being a loser, but a charming one nonetheless.

Lottie x Nat Band AU Headcanon

Lottie is the good girl, queen bee child prodigy pianist of Wiskayok High School

Natalie Scatorccio is the lead singer of a rock band that covers 70's/80's rock classics

Also in the band is Shauna Shipman as lead guitarist and Jackie Taylor on Bass with Van Palmer on Drums

Shauna and Jackie are constantly bickering and fighting in the background and lowkey dating

Van is dating Taissa who's in another band but both super supportive of each other

Lottie is under a lot of pressure from her parents and her school and the parents fund the school to give Lottie every chance at practising piano and she wins loads of trophies for the school trophy case. a win win scenario for the school and her parents

Lottie and Nat used to be childhood best friends till Lottie's family put a stop to it and made Lottie focus on Piano instead.

Piano has now become a chore for Lottie and she wishes she could do something for herself for just once

Battle of the bands is coming up and the band decide they need a keyboardist.

Jackie designs a flyer and sticks the up around school but the jocks, aka jeff and randy stick Lotties recital flyer over them

jackie doesn't even notice and is ecstatic that her flyers came out okay while Shauna massively rolls her eyes in the background.

Lottie sees the flyer sticking out behind one the recital flyers and decides to show up to their rehersal.

Nat is an immediate "no" to the idea but the rest of the band wouldn't mind.

"As if you've ever heard a rock song in your life" - natalie

"I don't need to, I just need the sheet music and I am good to go" - Lottie

"I like her"- Shauna to which Jackie bickers with her about

Natalie comes around to the idea when they play Everybody wants to Rule the world and it sounds a million times better with the keyboard in it.

She makes Lottie mixtapes and quizzes her on the music when the bands meets privately.

They start to bond and slowly fall for each other

Nat turns the mic to look at Lottie when singing and sings certain lines of songs to make her see her feelings

Shauna and Jackie pick up on the lingering looks between the two girls

"somebody's got a crush" - Shauna sing songs to nat

"I do not" - nat

"Oh really? how come you've never sung crimson and clover to me like that then Nat?" - jackie presses with a smile

"oh shut the f*ck up weirdos" - nat and storms out the door with that knowing smile on her face

Lottie makes Nat listen to one classical song for her

"No, when I say I like 70's music, I don't mean the 1700's" - Nat jokes

"Come on, I've listened to all your songs, please listen to just one for me??" - lottie pleads with her doe eyes

"Fine" - Nat says and the opening melody to Clair De Lune plays

Nat never knew that stupid old classical music could be so beautiful.

Nat and Lottie lock eyes as the music swells

Nat pictures Lottie playing the song, her fingers dancing on the keys with her face locked in concentration.

The song made her want to actually see Lottie play

See what all the hype is about

But then the cold front comes up from Nat and she remembers how Lottie shut her out

When the song ends, Nat turns to make a quick exit but Lottie grabs her hand.

"Thanks for listening" - lottie, and nat leaves

On the next mixtape, clair de lune is tucked into the playlist.

Junior year, Lottie Matthews tags along with Nat to a bunch of punk shows in Jersey City and Newark. Nat was skeptical at first, but Lottie offered to drive—well, have her dad hire a car—and everyone knows Lottie never asks for gas money. So, whatever.

Except Lottie is a great time at a show—she pogos, she moshes, she dances, she hoots and hollers and infects everyone around her with her charisma. The first time, Nat’s taken aback. The second, she joins in. The third, she hangs back and watches Lottie go.

A guy with red laces in his Docs tries to make time with Lottie, and Nat steers her clear. She spends most of the ride back to Wiskayok huddled in the back of the hired Lincoln, whispering too close to Lottie’s face about what the different colors mean. Nat doesn’t think too hard about how she kept looking at Lottie’s lips with every breathless “uh huh” or “interesting.”

(That doesn’t mean anything, okay? Lottie just has really good skincare, Nat can’t afford lip balm like that.)

Except Lottie shows up a week later with her very own pair of brand new Doc Martens, threaded all the way up with mauve laces. Nat scowls. Fucking rich girls. Lottie thinks she can just swan in and pick a color because she likes it? Like the rules don’t apply to her, like she doesn’t have to think about what people say or what they think she’s saying? Wasn’t Lottie listening to a goddamn word Nat said?

Dating Lottienat

pre-crash headcanons

Lottie and you would definitely start hooking up in a fwb situation where you started messing around because both of you knew the other had feelings for Nat. it began as a getting over Nat by getting under someone else, but you guys ended up falling for each other as well and further complicated the situation. 

Nat walks in on y'all messing around one day and gets super jealous, so yall just decide to fuck about it. Nat would definitely assume she was just a hookup for the both of you and would avoid the two of you after instead of having to be emotionally vulnerable for even a second. 

you and lottie corner her in the locker room after practice one day and are all like “not even going to call us after?”/ “your child support payment is late 😒”. Nat's ass is so confused but is all for it after a quick conversation about how you guys feel about her. 

she just giddily follows the two of you around school for the next few days. she'd be ever so smug about it, but she'd also be super whipped for the both of yall. whenever she gets particularly insufferable Lottie just bats her eyelashes all like “could you get me a soda from the vending machine?” and Nat just 🏃💨

you and Lottie having competitions to see which one of you can embarrass Nat the quickest in public. Lottie for sure has absolutely no shame and would enjoy a good competition. Poor Nat suffers the consequences of your competitive streak though. Imagining Nat burying her head in your shoulder and blushing to her ears in embarrassment over something Lottie did in public. Lottie giving you a smug look in the background as she practically skips over to the two of you. 

you and Nat would spend a lot of time at Lottie's empty house. Both Lottie and Nat view home as a particularly stressful place, and they'd really blossom if given a safe place to actually consider home. Nat and Lottie both would really let their guards down if given consistent positive attention, which neither of them have ever really received before. 

it does not matter what position you fell asleep in, because you will not wake up that way. You're not sure if the two of them do it in their sleep, or if they purposely do it after the others have fallen asleep but you always wake up in the weirdest positions. Once you fell asleep spooning Lottie and woke up somehow spooning Nat. Neither you nor Lottie could figure out the logistics of that one, but Nat was surprisingly tight-lipped about it. 

After falling asleep laying fully on top of Nat and waking up with half your torso being pulled off of her by Lottie you tried to feign sleep to catch them in the act. Either it really was done unconsciously or they were smart enough to realize you were still awake, but you gave up trying to catch them after two nights of nothing. 

Lottie loves when you wear her clothes. T-shirts, pants, socks, doesn't matter as long as it belongs to her. Nat, on the other hand, is mostly apathetic to the whole thing. She's never been particularly possessive in that way. She does, however, go absolutely feral the first time she walks in and sees you fast asleep in nothing but her boxers and her nirvana t-shirt. There's something about that specific combination that just drives her wild. 

speaking of which, one of the biggest fights the three of you ever get in is when you and Lottie plot together to buy Nat's letterman. She's beyond angry when she finds out and yell about the two of you going behind her back, but really she's just embarrassed. She thinks the two of you buying the jacket for her is a negative reflection on her. The fight really only ends when you interrupt her to sheepishly admit that you and Lottie hadn't bought it with her in mind, and instead were planning split custody of it. She sputters in disbelief and she looks between the two of you and blushes all the way up to her ears. She goes bright red and shyly turns away every time the two of you see her for the next week. You do end up having a serious conversation about it, but you can't help but enjoy the way she hungrily watches you every time you wear it. 

Lottie has a love-hate relationship for when her parents call to cancel their visits with her. As a kid she always hated it and would be inconsolable for days; Not, of course, that she had anyone that would try to console her. Now she has pretty mixed feelings about the whole thing. She so desperately wants her parents to love her, but at the same time she knows now that that isn't what love should look like. She still cries sometimes when they cancel, but sometimes she doesn't. Everytime they call you and Nat are there to pick up the pieces. You bring her to bed with you and hold her between the two of you until she falls asleep, not letting go until you have to get ready for school the next morning. 

Nat and Lottie always get upset when your parents demand that you come home, though they're both too embarrassed to admit it. Still, you can't help but notice the intensity of their clinginess at school until your parents allow you to return.

✰ Lottie is extremely attentive when you're on your period. She'd be the type to bring you herbal teas that are meant to help with cramping and pain as well as foods that are going to be gentle on your stomach if you have trouble with food when you're menstruating

✰ She's found that using essential oils on the abdomen helps her and she'll offer to do that for you, which turns into a very gentle and affectionate abdominal massage

✰ she often snuggles up with you when you feel like taking a nap, holding a hot pad to you're stomach so that it doesn't get jostled or moved while you're asleep. its also an excuse to hold your stomach, which she absolutely loves

✰ she'll help you in the bathroom with whatever you need, whether it's for someone to hold back your hair and rub you back or you need help getting a warm bath set up with nice smelling oils that help your skin and bubbles. She'll sit with you and wash your hair, using her hand to cover your face from soapy water

✰ She will 100% go down on you if that's something you want and it'll relieve any pain. She takes her time getting the bed prepped with towels and she'll light your favorite candle and just tenderly take care of you for as long as you need

✰ Natalie isn't the best at comfort. she's rather awkward in emotional situations already, so an added layer of needing to be there for another person can be challenging, especially when emotions and hormones are both running high, but she does her best!

✰ She's definitely the type to go out and get you whatever you want though at the drop of a hat. Do you want chocolate ice cream? no problem! She'll go out to the store and grab some right away. absolute favorite has to be nat, even after four+ months on T, being such a baby about shots and asking lottie to do them for him (which she obviously says yes to every time)

lot in solidarity offers to let nat do hers, instructs him carefully, and then soon they're just doing each others HRT shots and cuddling afterwards in the ensuing gender euphoria of it all

lot's HRT won't give her a cycle and it'll make her dysphoric while she's also dealing with all the hormones still occurring, nat would be the doting bf affirming her in the ways he can the whole time - "baby, you're so pretty. such a pretty girl." and doing all the things you'd normally do - making sure she eats well, giving her extra attention, chocolates, kisses all over her face to show how loved she is, and checking in on her frequently in case she needs extra love and attention

nat gets to over 8 months on T and his voice has fully deepened, lot's voice has gotten higher on E and they're both like - somehow even more attracted to each other than they were before dksjks. phone calls even though they just left each other's apartments just to hear each other's voices, nat sending husky voice notes in the morning because he knows they drive lottie crazyyyy. lot's voice being so cute to nat that sometimes conversations are like - "babe, i literally just explained this to you." and nat's like, "i know. can you say it again though? i just love hearing you talk."

nat's HRT giving him that *slutty* male waist and allowing him to bulk a bit, lot literally can't keep her hands off him or stop bragging about how handsome "my man" is or using every possible moment to say "my guy" or "my boyfriend" (nat is even worse about calling lot "my girl", making it extremely clear to all his dudebros that lot is HIS,, but we won't get into it, possessive nat is for another time)

likewise lottie's HRT making her gain weight in her hips and chest and nat being like, insanely obsessed with this. could not keep his hands off of her if he tried and even then lot wouldn't want him to, grinning every time nat squeezes at the plush of her waist or kisses her stomach, telling her she's "so perfect, so beautiful. how'd i get so lucky?"

literally the most wholesome relationship ever, like they go clothes shopping together and tell each other which outfits look so pretty or so handsome

the height difference doesn't even bother nat because having a tall gf just means her skirts show even MORE of her legs (he has an obsession there as well) and when they cuddle he can just starfish on top of her while she plays with his hair and gives him little affirmations

summary: just how i think sleeping with lottie and nat would go if you were dating them both! this is set after what happened with javi, nat is the antler queen and she’s dealing with the guilt of javis death being because he tried to save her

- okay so you definitely have the attic to yourselves

- lottie is always the first to be ready for bed

- she’d just be sat there like ‘🙂’ waiting for you and nat to join her

- when it was just you and lottie you’d sit with your head on her shoulder, her arm would be wrapped around you and she’d be softly humming a song to you

- you never knew what the song was, majority of the time you think she just made them up, but it was adorable so you never said anything about it

- when nat finishes up with her antler queen stuff, checking on everyone etc, she joins you both

- she would come up as quietly as possible, stopping halfway up the ladder to listen to lottie humming a completely made up tune to you

- at the sign of nat you’d both perk up and she’d get so nervous fr

- nat almost every night has a nightmare of the day of her hunt, she can’t let go of what happened to javi because of her

- whenever she jolts awake in a panic, you and lottie immediately spring into action

- you join her in sitting up and keep a protective arm around her, reassuring her that she’s okay and that she’s safe

- lottie tries her hand on the heart method, sometimes it’s able to ground nat but majority of the time it does nothing so she gives up and just holds you both as close to her as possible

- you just sit with her and let her cry, let her sob about how unfair the hunt was, about how it should have been her

- it’s so sad :(

- once nat is settled again you swap positions with her, allowing her to sleep in between you and lottie instead

- lottie usually hums until you both fall back to sleep, always putting you both before herself

- eventually when you’ve all drifted back to sleep you all move around a lot

- lottie usually ends up out of her blanket somehow

- nat almost always ends up stretched out on top of you

- you can’t complain though considering it’s winter and she’s keeping you warm

- if you did ever get annoyed at her she would get SO defensive

- “i’m just trying to keep you warm” with an eye roll

- lottie still utterly stunned by how she never fails to wake up out of her blanket
