Calamity@Lady Ombre: The florges approached the trio as she looked voer the small giratina "Greetings all mighty," she greeted her politley "I havent seen any gods or goddesses from my universe so im not sure how its suppose to be..." she thought out slightly before looking towards Silas "This prison...." she said lightly in thought patting her chin with hand "Why was he imprisoned? It has something to do with the young zorua...?" her gaze wondered to the collapsed zorua who still haven't moved "Right...?"
Tumblr media
Silas's shouting had quickly melted into silence, I suppose this was a job for Calamity then! She happily approached Lady, ready to answer her question.
Tumblr media
Her reply was interrupted as Calamity seemed to zone off in confusion, that couldn't be right. She didn't say he could use that. There were no spirits of Giratina around beside her. A look of horror began to bleed into her expression. There was only one person who could do that. Someone much more important than a lowly spirit, someone divine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reality quickly hit the spirit as she began to squirm in a panic, everything was going wrong and so quickly. "W-wait!! No! I-"
Tumblr media
The fox raised his arm, bringing the spirit much higher. Though his face was covered it was clear he was upset, the tone of his voice was harsh and unforgiving. "I am not your Nym." "I gave you no permission to address me as such." He growled, "Call me that again, Next time I'm going to do more than just kill you. I don't want your stupid nicknames. We are not friends and we will never be friends. I don't want to be anyone's stupid fuckin' friend, Okay? So just, fuck off. Alright!" Instead of fighting Silas, Calamity quickly began to accept her fate, she was going to die and there was nothing she could do about it. As much as she wanted to live she didn't have the heart to fight back. Tears quickly began to fill her eyes and as she shook in terror.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The impact was rough, dust-filled but the results were clear. Silas gave a huff, he felt nothing towards that thing's death. No sadness, no guilt, he had no connection with it. Why would he care about the death of a thing that couldn't even feel true emotions or pain? Everything she did was just an act to earn trust, a facade to seem like she was real. Something to make him care about her. He wasn't going to fall for it.
Tumblr media
The silence was eerie, all that could be heard was the occasional small sniffle from Silas as he stared off. It seemed the fox's thoughts were wandering again.
Tumblr media
"I hope you didn't want to talk to that thing, I think you should have asked a little quicker. It's much too late now." His tone was mocking, and demeaning as he leaned towards the Florges.
Tumblr media
"I've taken down much worse than a poor little lost ghost. Just ask anyone~ I'm sure they'll tell you how much I love killing small, little helpless ghosts like you. They always like to squirm and scream." "So, This is what's going to happen. You're going to turn around, you're going to walk away and then you're going to leave this place, alright? How does that sound, hm?" Though he phrased it as a question, it's clear it wasn't. This was a threat, but something in his tone wasn't quite right. Something was off… there was almost a slight tremble to his voice? It was quickly covered as the fox gave a soft hum, "Well, Unless you want to find out why I was stuck in that stupid little prison, and I both think we know you don't." "If not, I'm sure we can arrange otherwise." He grinned, even with his face covered it echoed in his voice. "We can see how quickly you can die if you'd like~" "Maybe you can beat the bug's record? But, I doubt that, you seem like a stubborn one having stuck around this long."

How I nuked my 400 Hour Save of Pokemon Heartgold
So, recently I've been playing through the Pokemon Generations doing a Ribbon Master Quest, obtaining every Ribbon a single or set of Pokemon can possibly obtain by sending them up through the series. Just yesterday I was on the tail end of finishing the Gen 4 segment of the challenge.
I have a team of 5 Ribbon Masters currently; Mushi, my Shiny Heracross from Pokemon Colosseum which I hunted specifically for this Ribbon Master Quest, Velos and Seibzehn, a Latios and Metagross I raised to use in Emerald's Battle Frontier, Sparda, my Shiny Arceus I hunted using the void glitch in Pearl and Nero, my Shiny Giratina from Sinjoh Ruins. The only ribbons left for them to get was the Legend Ribbon for beating Red and most pertinent to this story, the World Ability Ribbon.
For those unaware, the World Ability Ribbon is obtained by reaching Rank 5 or higher in the Wifi Room in Gen 4's Battle Tower. Despite what you may think, this is still obtainable thanks to fan made servers which restore old wifi functionalities in Generations 4 & 5. The thing is though the Wifi room is bullshit. The opponents you fight are recorded teams from other players and unfortunately, on top of the highly optimised teams you’ll encounter, you'll also encounter many teams of blatantly hacked stuff like Machamps with OHKO Moves or Sturdy Shedinjas.
This is where I mention the fact that I just so happen to have a modded 3ds, which, among other things, let's me backup save data. So since the game was blatantly cheating anyway, I decided "Fuck it, I'm cheating too". How I did this was to fight one battle in the Wifi Room, and after winning, I'd use the rest option to save and exit the game. Then I'd backup that save file, so if I lost the next battle, I could restore that backup and try again, letting me continue my streak. A slow process but it would mean eventually, I would be able to climb the ranks high enough to get the World Ability Ribbon.
As you can imagine though, I was doing this process of reloading and backing up a lot, and at one point I restored a file incorrectly, taking out the game too early, causing the file to go blank. No problem I'll just restore the file again and if I was competent, that's wherethis would have ended. But, because of how much I was using Checkpoint, my muscle memory got a lite crosswired, so instead of restoring my file, I made a new backup over it, effectively erasing the entire thing.
For reference this included:
400 hrs of Gameplay, A Pokedex roughly 2/3rds complete, A fully developed Safari Zone, Several Pokemon from my various Gen 4 Playthroughs over the years, Every Arceus Plate, (Which are actually pretty difficult to get in HGSS), All 5 of my Ribbon Masters
And perhaps worst of all, my entire collection of Gen 4 shinies. This included:
My near back to back Shiny Luxio and Luxray from Platinum,
A shiny Darkrai and Shaymin I hunted with the Void Glitch
Several Radar and Safari Week Shinies
And a shiny of each Sinjoh Dragon.
Needless to say I was both pissed and devestated. There was some consolation, since I had backups of Gen 3 and Platinum, my Ribbon Masters and Battle Tower mons were safe. Everything else though, initially I was resigned to either losing them forever or trying very likely in vain to recreate as much as I could in PKHex which has it's own issues both logistically and ensuring they were legal, not helped at all by how bad the legality checker in PKHex actually is.
BUT
There was, one, just one saving grace. Fucking POKEMON BATTLE REVOLUTION
Tumblr media
The way that Battle Revolution works is that you connect a Gen 4 Save File and it will make an exact copy of your boxes so you can use them in BR's various Colosseums. And of course I just so happened to have copied my boxes from HG a few months ago just after Safari Week meaning every pokemon I had nuked still existed! I had to hack my Wii U to dump the save file but because of that I was able to completely restore almost every single pokemon by copy pasting them back onto Heartgold.
Obviously still lost a lot in other areas but I really can't complain considering what I managed to restore.
As a sidenote, there was a similar incident way back where I accidentally erased my friend's Ruby Master File no shinieswere lost just a lot of progress. I think his reaction speaks for itself.

(A first) Meetings between Monarchs
(More than one Monarch AU)
The Ghost Child and The Lord of the Lost
(Inspiration, Vs. Giratina.)
“This Pokémon God is said to live in a world on the reverse side of ours, where common knowledge is distorted and strange. It was banished for its violence. It silently gazed upon the old world from the Distortion World. It appears in an ancient cemetery.”
Danny must have a hidden talent for annoying people because so far with every ghost he meets manages to start a fight with them.

(Who dares defile the Lord of the Lost's Realm?)
Though pissing off a giant winged(?) snake on sight is new for him, both on record and experience.
Tumblr media
He'd been flying around for what felt like hours in this oddly beautiful place that while looking similar to the Ghost Zone, was more connected with pathways and rivers that defied physics than just some floating islands. And wasn't just green.
He felt entranced while observing his surroundings with no sign of anything other living being or ghost before finally following his instincts to travel toward the direction where an aura of power radiated to him. He'd then found a large flat island that held some type of incredibly large ancient temple that looked thoroughly smashed to bits with the pillars crumbled to less than half mast, yet still had a floating ceiling off-center and some perfectly intact statues inside. The curious child that he is couldn’t resist getting a closer look, floating closer to one statue that looked almost like a dinosaur and was trice his height (sauropod-like). It stood on four sturdy legs, a long sturdy tail, and a long neck, with a crest on its head. It had horns and fangs that looked like armor rather than growing on it with some kind of fin/wing on its back, along with a sort of chest piece with a blue jewel that was the only color in this statue of gray stone.
When he looked at the writing underneath the statue, Danny noticed that a plate was knocked off and broken beneath the statue that seemed to hold Ancient Greek lettering, not that he could read it in its state. Carved into the base of the statue held large lettering Danny never saw before, though could still read with no training (thanks to ghost logic).
Tumblr media
Dialga, Sibling?
Danny turned around and checked another statue across from the Dialga Sibling statue, this one was bipedal and also looked like a dinosaur to Danny. (Theropod-like) It had two sturdy legs and a powerful tail, gauntlet-looking arms with round plates on its shoulders, a long slightly bent neck, and a head that also had tusks/fang armor and a pointed crest at its crown. Two wings/fins protrude from the statue's back that fanned its shoulders, and again the only color on it was the two pink circle gems on the round shoulder plates for each side.
Once again the plate underneath was removed, though this one was whole and set to the side, the lettering was unintelligible with being so rubbed away. Danny traced the carved words that replaced the plate, almost feeling something from them.
Tumblr media
Palkia, Sibling.
While these were interesting, the true interest was in the even larger statue to the back of this temple. It was another quadruped like the first, but not as stocky. It looked like a regal horse with its slim legs and neck, wavy-looking tail and mane(?) that sticks up away from its head between pointed ears/horns, and a cross mixed with a wheel on its round stomach. It doesn't have any jewels on it like the others, but it's lined with gold in between all the cracks in the statue. Like it was smashed to bits but then glued together with gold.
Danny ducked as suddenly the resembling a centaur statue exploded, but it didn't reach him as it only flew out a foot before halting, and slowly melding together again. Odd, but he didn't focus on it for his eye caught on the carved words on the podium.
Tumblr media
Original, Creator, Almighty.
The last word was carved messily with jagged lines, and Danny could feel something like anger from it - maybe grief.
Liar
Unsettled by the negative feeling of the unstable statue, which did explode again and reformed slowly, Danny backed away to the middle of the temple. Where was that feeling of power he was following earlier? There was only lingering emotions from the statues but he was right on top of the power...
He looked up.
And saw a mural etched into the floating ceiling above him, winding around where the stubs of pillars were, was a dark painting of a snake-like shadow with dull red eyes looking at him. Danny shuddered a little while huffing a small laugh, closing his eyes with a small smirk. A (half)ghost scared of a painting? How ironic.
Something splattered.
And Danny opened his eyes to see the red eyes start to peel away from the mural, starting to glow brightly as the abyss black dripped around him, oozing from six reaching tentacles that pierced the ground and caged him beneath the shadow as it lowered closer, and closer.
Danny stood there as the eyes appraised him, and a red mouth just as bright as the eyes split beneath the two, and a multitude of voices spilled out.
W̴̨̪̥͑͗͐̎̈H̸̛̟͕̻̍̽̏̿̚Ọ̵̥͎̬͉̍̕̚ͅ ̷̠̝̽̃D̵̨̯͔̈́̾͗̃̉A̷̜̟̼̞͖̹̎̀̓̌̉̃R̶̻͛̔̂̀͐Ĕ̷̪̖̗̏̿̀̂̒S̵̯͗͊̈͆͂̑̿ ̸̛͔̻̩̖̗́͒̚͜D̶̰̈Ḙ̸̛͖̊̃̿̑̀́F̵͙̼͉̩̱̽̌̀̑̀́Î̴͎̱͇̮͉͈̦̲L̷͚̙̳̋̽̿E̴̠͆̾̕ͅ

Tumblr media
The voice(s) was angry and accusing, and Danny had a feeling of deja vu when he opened his first door in the Ghost zone. He just trespassed on a very powerful being's territory and had no excuse other than curiosity and being lost. Still, Danny stood his ground, took a breath (to ground himself not to breathe), and tried to use manners that Jazz always said wouldn't hurt.
"Danny Phantom." He couldn't get any other words out to even attempt to be polite, the pressure around him was immense and seemed to close in on his throat, but he got his intent across.
And also couldn't hide some emotion.
'Lost, Guardian, searching for help, protector of the weak, fledgling, unwilling hero'
The shadow seemed to pause, its writhing body slowing from a lashing like a vengeful cat's tail to an interested hunter (why did that example seem worse?). The dripping stopped, and the inky blackness around him drew back to the tentacles stabbed into the ground. The mouth was still open wide, and the eyes still glowed, but the shadow was gaining solidity. The 'face' drew closer until Danny could nearly touch it, the mouth longer than his whole height as it seemed to mock him. No voice reached him, but Danny felt its intent and emotions like he can with other ghosts, and he could feel it being pushed directly at him purposefully.
'Suspicion, Curiosity, Verify'
A̵̰̣̘̘͍̭̖ͫr͔̯̪̗̭͔̻͚ͦ̈ͭ͞e̥̻̹̪̭̣ͭ̑̀ ̺̦ͦ̄ͧ͜y̱̮͈ͩ͘o̵̼̘̓ͯ͗u̢͎̖͙ͤ̊ ̳̤̤̪͖̐̄̇͞t̤̮̭͔̙̦̆͛̀r̫͓̤͎̣̩̘ͨͣͦ͠u͖͕͖͎͚̹͌͢ţ̖̞͗͌̒h̭͔̞͇̃̔͟f̅͊͌͏͙̬̘u̡̫̰̰̰̜̞ͥl̘̹̦͚̰̥̻͆̿ͫ͝?̴͓̬̦͒̽ͅͅ
(Are you truthful?)
It rumbled.
And Danny, tired after stressing over homework and test, fighting the fruitloop, flying for hours, and his core screaming danger danger danger;
Punched the shadow right between its eyes.
Uh-oh

Pokemon Card of the Day Schedule: Lost Thunder
The Lost Thunder set had a theme around both Lightning-types and the return of the Lost Zone mechanic, somewhere that cards would be sent and couldn't be recovered from for the rest of the game. While the Lost Zone was already seen a bit in Ultra Prism due to the Prism Star mechanic, there were now more cards, like Jumpluff, that actually made use of it in this set, though they didn't go all-in on the mechanic again for a few more years. Said Lost Zone mechanic did bring the Lost March deck with Jumpluff, Trumbeak, and Natu, which was like Night March but harder to use.
The Lightning side of the set had Mareep, which had small uses for stall decks, Zebstrika to draw through a deck quickly, and Zeraora-GX to help Lightning decks with retreat costs. A Stadium, Thunder Mountain Prism Star, made it easier for Lightning-types to attack, which was very useful after a future set was released. Electropower would turn out to be a huge deal, giving easy damage boosts to later, extremely strong Pokemon.
Outside of the themes, there was a decent bit to take in. Grass got a shockingly high amount to work with, though it never came together to give it anything top tier. Still, Sceptile-GX, Shuckle-GX, Meganium, and Life Forest Prism Star had their uses. Fire had Magcargo-GX for mill decks and Blacephalon-GX for big attacks, while getting a nice Stadium in Heat Factory Prism Star. Other interesting Pokemon included a few Unown cards with weird win conditions, a Giratina that placed damage counters when coming into play, a Naganadel that accelerated to itself (and could help certain attackers with the right combos), a new take on Alolan Ninetales-GX, and surprisingly enough, an Onix card that had a niche. Yes, really. Oh, and Ditto Prism Star was able to evolve into anything and some decks liked that a lot.
There were a few extra Trainers with noting, such as four new Fairy Charm cards to block certain types, Counter Gain to help a bit in coming back from behind, and Custom Catcher, which let you use a gusting effect without using a Supporter... if you played two. Faba, Professor Elm's Lecture, Spell Tag, and Wait and See Hammer also had spots in specific decks. Overall, a pretty good set, and one where the biggest impact took a little while to be seen.

Ingo memory loss theory: Greek mythology edition
Tumblr media
I am once again back with another theory I made up for my fanfiction, this time with Ingo!
Now at this point it's probably pretty commonly known that Arceus is inspired in part by Zeus and Giratina is inspired in part by Hades. Now the interesting thing about that is that it would also make the distortion world the Pokemon equivalent of the underworld. Now it's probably not meant to be looked into too much more than that but that's what I'm here to do anyway!
Now we know the Space-time rifts in Hisui are being torn open by Giratina. I personally think that both the items and Pokemon routed through them to Hisui probably have to pass through the distortion world in some capacity seeing as both Giratina is there and it's a time neutral zone.
Giratina is never stated to have time travel powers like Dialga but going through these tears puts him in different time periods throughout the series. It would make sense that to transport something through that you'd need to open a portal to the distortion world and then yeet it back out another one.
That brings us to Ingo! If the above is true than Ingo may have gone into the distortion world where Giratina is for at least some amount of time.
Tumblr media
Now this is super easy to forget but the distortion world does have a flowing water source that runs through it canonically. You can even surf on it although nothing lives in it.
Tumblr media
And I'm just saying maybe a lost and thirsty man like Ingo might not know the dangers of drinking water from the underwor- I mean distortion world.
Maybe he made a lil mistake before he was finally sent through? Maybe he fell in the water? This is all made up anyway but I thought it was a cool idea.

Note
A thought I've been having for a while.
Ingo and the protag never actually went to hisui.
At least, not in body.
Their mind travels between their original body and the body Arceus made for them when they sleep.
(Now for the AU that this could lead to, because I must share.)
This is good, because the reason they lost their memories is because their brains are in a dreaming state. Also they are perfectly safe at home, as Arceus can restore the dream bodies.
This is bad, because sleeping is supposed to rest the mind, and aid in processing events, and neither are getting that.
At first, there aren't many side effects?
And then after about a month, they start having trouble focusing.
They start zoning out, and eventually, Ingo drops.
He doesn't stay down for long, but its concerning that it hapened while he was battling. Clearly, something has happened.
It happens soon after in Hisui as well.
Akari is Arceus's special child, and doesn't get hit with the spells until later.
This may seem like a good thing.
It is actually a sign of Arceus's power fading.
Considering that that's the only reason they didn't actually end up in Hisui, it's actually very bad.
So. Two problems. One easy solution. Except. You need the dream body there to reunite the two.
Cue Emmet finding out about "Warden Ingo" in an attempt to figure out what exactly is going on.
And then the Rift spreads to Unova.
Because Arceus tried to be nice in the least sustainable way possible, Giratina was able to use the link to extend the rift.
Plus side, easier to hunt down the dream bodies.
Down side, reality is a mess.
Emmet is not built for this much camping.
But he is also the only one who can really safely travel between the different places and times the rift takes you (Blessing on ingo infected him just enough to prevent problems? Eh details scarce.) so Emmet must prevail.
Obviously, Volo in modern times is able to cause so many more problems.
Emmet accidentally creates a paradox at one point. (Joltiks did not exist until he had eggs on him in the rift. He just wanted something familiar, and hatching eggs is very familiar.)
Plus side: Emmet gets to bring cool extinct Unovan pokemon home. Finally he is the solution to time travel problems.
Down side: Historians stop fighting through the trains and refuse to fight Emmet challenge.
(Yes, he gets to catch the gods. Why? Because someone has to complete the pokedex, and Ingo and Akari are in a nice godly coma of healing. Thanks lake trio.)
(I just thought of the dream thing and then it spiraled. Have a good day!)
this sounds interesting, even though it's not an idea I would personally be invested in!

I just had the sickest pokemon battle: I had a Miradion with Lighting Laser that was at 110/120 hp with a mareep on the bench against a fully stacked Giratina Vstar/Lost Zone Sableye deck AND I WRECKED thanks to a lucky pop. RIP Mareep, you are the best sheep but thanks to you I was able to snipe a Sableye from the bench to gain a prize RaikouV. Fleetfooted a Yongster to gain a Regieleki and RegielekiVmax and it was OVER THAT! is how you become the very best there ever was.

Sync Pair Retrospective - Sinnoh VA
Fun fact: I stopped doing these because of Renegade Cynthia.  I started to work on it, but had almost nothing interesting to say, so I stopped saying things, and fell off of these retrospectives for months.  But, since she’s rerunning this month, and the VA seems to be rerunning as well from what I understand, it’s as good a time as any to talk about them.
RENEGADE CYNTHIA Renegade Cynthia, one of the coolest costumes the game has produced.  I do feel like they went with the wrong Giratina, sorry I like Origin form better, but this isn't a problem.  Upon arrival, people lost their minds.  This alt came quite some time after SS Cynthia, and people were dying for a legitimately good Cynthia alt, after both Garchomp and Kommo-o fell off.  Can you imagine not getting a Cynthia alt an average of every 6 months?  Simpler times, my friends.
Cynthia came in as the first ever Zone setter, revitalizing the Ghost type.  See, prior to this?  Off-type in Champion Stadium was the norm.  Because field effects are wildly overpowered, and having SS Red/Leon with Sun support means you're probably stronger than most on-type options anyway.  Cynthia was a beacon of hope for every type to come after.  And was considered second fiddle to Lucas, who was right after her.
No really.  People argued, still argue, that Lucas is better.  And I do get where they're coming from but I hate it.  See, Cynthia provides Ghost Zone and some debuffing effects in Sundering and On a Roll 2 for Shadow Ball, which aligns well with the type's needs.  But it's inconsistent and random, so it's not as valued compared to Lucas.  The next month coming into SS Cyrus and P!Marnie means Cynthia was, for a while, considered a fairly poor Zone setter.  She had gauge issues, she wasn't that good at DPS, and she didn't offer the same depth of support that Cyrus and Marnie had.
But oh man that sync nuke.  Cynthia coincided with the advent of Gauntlet, and was the first of many, many Tech pairs that emphasized Zone and an absurd sync nuke.   Cynthia felt particularly effortless, having admittedly far less to do to set up what she needed.  Moreover, I feel like the combination she had with Halloween Caitlin removed all of her concerns.  Caps attack, salvages speed and defenses, and Caitlin allowed for massive shenanigans with a Ghost strike partner that emphasized DPS like Anni Lillie.
If there was anything that held Cynthia back, it's that ghosts broadly kinda sucked before Lillie.  There weren't good ones.  But with the common grid war, I'd argue Ghost is one of the best types out there.   Shauntal and Fantina got absurdly strong grid improvements, Helena was a strong free unit, and even Agatha has some respectable damage output when desired.  Ghost stepped up its game, and Cynthia benefits massively.
The only real competitors she faced were SC Lillie and H!Allister.  In the case of Lillie, Lillie's trainer move could call Ghost Zone...5% of the time.  This wasn't actually a competition unless you're unhinged.  Allister, by comparison, had Rebuff, a new Zone alternative that gave a 30% multiplier for one rebuff stack, or 50% for two.  It was permanent in CS, and was at least a status change for Uxie purposes in Gauntlet.  But.  Gauges continue to haunt Cynthia.  While the combination of Cynthia with Allister sounds divine, they're both so slow and bad on gauge, that getting things to work is a nightmare.  So as a full type, Cynthia helps, but isn't really cranking out some of the best comps in the meta, you know?
Basically, she's in a spot where she's top dog, but only because there's no one else competing with her.  An alternative that packed more consistent support or gauge control would likely put her out of a job.  She's just hanging on the precipice of failure, and it's weird, because she does have some nice use, it’s just too inconsistent and too limited to really shine.  I hate to say it, because people hate hearing it, but Master Fairs really should be getting grid expansions. The older ones need it real bad.
LUCAS Lucas came in with Dragon Zone, and my initial stance on Lucas was "Kinda sucks."  Because most Dragons at the time...didn't need him.  Iris needed debuffs, she worked better with C!Elesa.  Clair needed other effects or she just wasn't getting anything done.  Zinnia needed weather.  Lance needed so much support that it was rough getting him to work at all, despite being one of the best recipients.  SS Cynthia could also work, but pretty much needed SC Jasmine.  His comps were just a rough time.  You pretty much just had Cyrus, whose Dragon damage was improved, but far from like...the best.
Then SS Serena dropped, and that was the end of that.  Lucas/SS Serena is an unchallenged core, barely even needing support thanks to their extremely strong self-setup.  Lucas had the issue of not really offering anything as support, but the tradeoff was having no impact on gauges thanks to Free Moves Next, allowing for potent dual strike cores.  This is where Lucas shined.  This comp.
And then, SS Kris came, and now Clair had access to Rain and Zone, achieving maximum potential.  And then SS Brendan showed up, and suddenly these comps had special defense debuffs.  Later, we'd even get Anni Raihan's grid expansion throwing out Disarm to lower offenses for C!Iris.  And Lance got his grid expansions, and now he's much, much easier to manage.
Over time, the concerns around Lucas' team comps have largely evaporated as dragons received better self setup, and better support options.  Lucas himself has remained kind of the same since forever.  He's a good tech nuker who supports Dragons through the Zone and DPS.  But because he has no other support effects, he can't step outside of that role.  So he's very good, but restrictive.
SYGNA SUIT CYRUS Friends. Let me tell you about one of the best sync pairs to ever do it.  SS Cyrus was insane.  Packing Dark Zone, Cyrus came in with something even better than that: Dark Void.  Turns out, DeNA agrees with me that Dark Void's nerf in Gen 7 was unjustified, and kept it at 80 accuracy.  Now we are in business.  Cyrus had AoE sleep with high accuracy, and was a hard lockdown that debuffed and dealt a bit of damage on every use.  His sync was destructive, and slapped people asleep when used, continuing the lockdown.  Even when focusing on DPS, Dark Pulse has a flinch rate. Cyrus disrupted with the best of them.  Even outside of his Zone, which was a tremendous benefit, this set a standard for supportive effects on field effect units.  The man was unparalleled.
Until SS Lyra kicked his knees backward.  Sure, it wasn't AoE, but that's almost to her benefit.  Lyra has guaranteed flinch, and because it's a passive entirely, she can queue up an extra move before the foe adjusts their attack.  A major flaw in sleep and flinch stalling tactics is that the one using sleep or flinch gets outpaced when the foe switches moves.  Lyra removes this problem entirely. Then has stronger debuffing game than him.  And can buff team crit and an ally's offenses.  And had Grassy Terrain, and pulled a Lucas by removing her gauge costs.  When it came to generalized disruption, Cyrus lost to Lyra pretty hard.   Especially in the Gauntlet meta, flinch just has greater utility than sleep.
On the plus side, his Dark Zone competitor, Champion Calem, came with hilarious restrictions.  Only ever 2MP, locked behind needing 10 hits from Buddy move, buffing kit as a support was skewed for physical DPS in a type where special is the way to go.  Karen getting her grid expansion, Summer N dropping in with pretty impressive numbers, and then landing wholly on Champion Marnie?   Calem meshes okay with them, but is mostly redundant.  Meanwhile, Cyrus had the Zone and disruption, which worked out great for them, considering Marnie and Karen also have high flinch rates.  Basically, this is a rare moment where the support role compression did not outperform the Tech. The only time Calem outperforms is frankly Masked Royal, who helps unlock his buddy move quickly and loves the physical moves up next.
The thing is, some tools are just good, and will always be good.  Sleep is one of them.  AoE disruption is fantastic, and Cyrus will never actually lose that effect. As a result, unlike Lucas and Cynthia who are potentially facing competition one day, Cyrus can just shift into being one of the most effective sleep bots the game has to offer.  How terrible for him.
SYGNA SUIT DAWN Dawn was...odd.  Obviously I loved her, I love when units are weird, but she was not particularly well received.  A defense buffing sync pair that cut its own defense and has limited heals?  That's weird.  Her sync was a nice heal, but only for allies, not for herself.  I know why they did it that way, but I also don't wholly agree with it.  Her expansion should have Synchro Healing, just saying.  All Ramped Up was nice, because it allowed her to combo perfectly with Caitlin, who just needed some Terrain support.  In fact, capping crit and giving a little special attack was something a ton of sync pairs appreciated, especially while being bulked up as much as Dawn provided.  She also had some unusual tools like Critical Countdown 9 twice for fast ramping, gauge acceleration, Sync Regen, Danger Damage Guard; all sorts of neat tools she could not access all at once.
The thing is, the excitement of Dawn feels very short lived.  I still like her, but she's far from what she felt like.  Sygna Suit Morty came in not long after, offering much better healing and comparable buffs, while also being good on gauge and compressing Sun.  She lost that one instantly.   Summer Hilda may not have crit, but the inversion of foe's buffs was fantastic for Gauntlet, while Dawn didn't have much unique for the mode.  And then of course, if you're losing to Morty, you're getting bodied by Aura Cynthia.  And if you were looking for a good Psychic support that can help with stacks of moves up next, C!Bede is right there, bro.
Dawn is a bit of a relic, in desperate need of an update.  At the time, I think they were concerned about the combination of defenses and crit.  I don't think that combination had existed on a single button before, and there was likely concern about how strong it would be.  And adding in the moves up next effect?  Dawn was the second unit ever to provide it as a support; they didn't know what it would do.  So they limited it.  They gave her a severe limitation, just like they did with Anni Steven and Anni Lillie, and shortly thereafter we find out oops, overshot that one a bit, now they're not that good.  The blessing is, PokeFair grid expansions are happening, and they gave one to Bede so they're willing to go modern.   Dawn could cut the queue.  And I hope she does.  This was such a cool alt, and it hurts a bit to see it languish in comparison to the better options that dropped along the way.

Up to Chapter Eleven, and to the rude people who were overly bothered by the brother-on-brother action tag last week, this story stopped being about brother-fucking after Chapter Three. I sort of lost the plot long ago. Now, we're sort of leaning towards Yandere!Giratina. I'm writing outside of my comfort zone, when before I might have been aiming to make everybody else uncomfortable. Anyway, enjoy!
While I was writing this, one of my favorite songs kept (facetiously) popping into my head.

Sword & Shield — Astral Radiance
Sword & Shield — Astral Radiance
The new expansion for The Pokémon Trading Card Game, titled Lost Origin, was released on Sept. 9. This new expansion sees the return of the Lost Zone, an area far more dangerous than the discard pile, and plenty of cards to support it. Many epic cards appear, including Giratina and Radiant Gardevoir, as well as more Hisuian region cards. One of the previously released expansions of 2022 was…

Sooooo… this is gonna be a long one, strap in. What follows is a metric ton of HCs about every single evil team and how they have worked themselves into every aspect of daily life, as to make them way more difficult to get rid off than just with a couple of arrests. Timeline wonkiness when trying to explain what likely happened first is to be expected, I’m playing fast and loose with all of this stuff. I might be way off topic in some regards but HECK HERE GOES. ~~~
TEAM ROCKET: This is pretty much of a no-brainer. What we have here is a classical mafia structure, and you just need to look at countries with extensive mafia presence to know that they are baked into every single fucking thing. Giovanni has worked years upon years to cement himself straight into Kanto and Johto, consequently making it impossible for any of the other teams to even THINK about gaining a foothold there. No further explanations necessary. ~~~ TEAM AQUA / TEAM MAGMA: This one is a bit of a more difficult one. But then again, let’s presume that most of the teams recruit a mixture of people who fully believe in the team’s message, who misunderstand the team’s message, and who see themselves in the team, but not necessarily in the message (so just looking for somewhere to belong and to gain some kind of direction). Oh, and monetary gain. Can’t forget that. So in the case of both Aqua and Magma? I like to believe it started out with Maxie and Archie working together on a plan to give nature back to Pokémon. Like, with trying to get more protected zones established, kinda like Fiore has them? But they were hitting resistance too often. Now I’m not saying that they were on the wrong track from the start or developed into what is basically eco-terrorists, but… they probably saw way too much bad shit happening to Pokémon around them. Maybe they heard what Team Rocket was doing to Pokémon in Johto and Kanto. Maybe they heard rumors about what Cyrus nearly accomplished, what Lysandre almost triggered, what Ghetsis managed to fuck up with his whole power play madness (TWICE, too!), what the Aether foundation might have had triggered if not for the intervention of a Legendary, what Rose made possible in the GALAR REGION of all places… Suffice to say, they probably felt like they needed to seriously up their game… to make sure that the other teams didn’t fuck up the world beyond repair before THEY could make the world a better place. The only thing that finally broke Archie and Maxie up though, was an inability to settle on what would be better. More landmass, more sea? What would be the gentler way of resetting humanity? Suffice to say, their vision might have attracted way too many who nudged them along. So TLDR: Archie and Maxie mostly reacted to what the other Team Bosses were doing and were helped along by Grunts/Admins that were way too into the whole “we will be the only humans deserving this new, shiny world”. They were numerous enough and determined enough to turn into a slightly terroristic group, but until the ultimate use of Kyogre/Groudon, they never really registered that much on Interpol’s radar. And when Interpol learned of them stealing a whole ass sub? It was already too late stopping them in their tracks in time. After all, Interpol had all the other regions to monitor as well… ~~~ TEAM GALACTIC: So. Charon doesn’t need much of a head canon fuckery. He just did it for the money, that much he stated openly. And Jupiter, Mars and Saturn? They all admitted openly to being along for the ride because they believed in Cyrus and the world being fucked up beyond repair, thus needing a good ol’ divine intervention from the whole-ass creation trio. But I don’t think any single one of them fully understood what Cyrus’s goal was. The commanders (that are not Charon) squarely fall into the category of “misunderstanding the ultimate purpose of the team”, as do all the Grunts. And as mentioned above with Team Aqua and Magma, Galactic probably saw some of the stuff that was happening around them and ultimately decided (and this is mostly for the Grunts and the Commanders) that Cyrus probably wasn’t so far off with the human spirit being incomplete. But they made one crucial mistake (pretty much the whole team, even Charon). They thought that Cyrus’s assertion over the incomplete nature of the human spirit was a reason for the man to believe in a world that should be made whole, not in wiping the whole fucking slate clean and going Tabula Rasa on the whole of creation. Much to the annoyance of everyone involved (and with that I mean the Creation Trio and the big boss of them), he actually went far enough to step on everything just to gain the power to control the legendaries. Also, time to unearth an already yoinked HC of mine that Giratina mostly retreated into the Distortion World to get some good alone time in, only to be disrupted by Cyrus bursting in. On that point also: time not really working all that clearly in the Distortion World. Kinda like Narnia rules, in as there is no fixed constant for time moving forward in either one or the other extreme. Sometimes, time will move forward extremely fast, other times, you spend years and years in the Distortion World and only a few seconds passed. After all, everything gets a bit… wobbly in there. But around the time Cyrus entered, Distortion World time became… more orderly. And that was what prompted Giratina to go VERY UNAMUSED ON HIS ASS. Think of it as time being influenced by what is thrown into the Distortion World. BACK to the Team, though. Galactic honest to Arceus believed that what they were doing would give the world a much needed boost… and were unpleasantly surprised when they were later on all shown that Cyrus wanted to go destruction and rebirth on the world. But that is not to say everyone was unhappy about this revelation. ~~~ TEAM PLASMA & NEO PLASMA: What easier time to convince disparate beliefs than with the apparent reason that they were just helping Pokémon that would have been unhappy in the care of their trainers? Wether the Grunts believed that the Pokémon should then consequently be released back into the wild or that they THEMSELVES deserved the Pokémon way more than others? What easier way to convince them of Plasma’s ideals? And there was no real discussion amongst the Grunts over this dichotomy. Sure, a few were disputing the one or the other stance, but most were still agreeing that the trainers they took the Pokémon from did NOT deserve them. No matter how pure their reasoning was. No matter how reality really looked like. Sure, they were removing Pokémon from some really nasty trainers? But on the greater scale of things, they mostly took Pokémon from trainers who they loved being with. And Ghetsis had his thumb on this a lot. See, Ghetsis didn’t want N to sway too much, before he finally met the protagonist. So Ghetsis made sure that only obviously abused Pokémon removed from trainers were brought to N. …why, no, this doesn’t mean at all that they were usually just from the outside. Ya think Ghetsis only had his main team? Dream on. ~~~ TEAM FLARE: What is there to say about Team Flare? They are basically a mix of the worst of the self-viewed elite of the region. There is entitlement to being viewed as the best of the best (and you can’t tell ‘em otherwise), there is doomsday fans who would do the whole shit with bunkering down and then fighting in an apocalyptic wasteland and fancying themselves new leaders in that changed world, there’s the ones who just think they will be able to surpass even Lysandre… What about the Admins of Flare? They half share Lysandre’s views of beauty. But mostly, they are in too deep to quit, and also half about relishing the fact that they get to work on something truly unique and devastating. They want this whole power thing to work out for them because some time in their lives, they might have felt like they were owed power and didn’t receive it. They were owed recognition and didn’t receive it. They want to be the new top of Kalos without working TOO hard for it. Without anything laying rocks in their path. Without any obstacles telling them that, no. They fucked up. ~~~ AETHER FOUNDATION: The moment Lusamine found out about the Ultra Dimension, she ostensibly was lost to her goal of getting her hands on the power to change the face of the world. And to preserve beauty. In many ways, her goal was similar to Lysandre… to a degree. The Aether Foundation is half staffed by people who truly believe that conservation work is the most important factor in the Pokémon World, to preserve some of the more endangered species around the world, and half staffed by people who truly believe that the Ultra Dimension holds answers to problems humanity might not even have recognized as such. This latter half was unpleasantly surprised when they started to learn the truth from the Ultra Dimension researchers. Finding out that Necrozma had destroyed the natural light of that world and was now the only source of more light for the city? That was a shock. But that didn’t necessarily mean that the Aether Foundation would have been broken up by that. Because honestly? The part of the conservation enthusiasts who were not deterred by the Ultra Dimension incident made the Foundation bloom beyond what it was possible to become. So in short: this foundation survived its leader far better than many others, and actually managed to get accepted. ~~~ MACRO COSMOS: This is the team that shocked their region with just how far their influence had gone. And that is to say that they existed at all, right under the noses of the region. Rose’s whole deal is a big part why Leon would later be plunged into a crisis of conscience, despite everyone assuring him that he had no way of knowing just how far Rose was willing to go to show the region how wrong it was to not immediately acquiesce to all that he envisioned for the future. The mere fact Rose was UNWILLING to wait what would at most have been half a day for Leon, to celebrate with the others after another big Champion Tournament? That was what sat so ill with many in the region. It wasn’t so much the message that Rose felt everyone had missed (that was actually just his version of events - most of the Macro Cosmos Grunts were attached to him solely for the reason of having privileges that none other had, and when they saw how he was acting, only the most dedicated few could ignore what was going on). So we are dealing with another team that was shocked how far the leader would go, but even more so than the Aether Foundation, the members scattered when Rose enacted the Darkest Day right out of nowhere. There is still worries that remains of Macro Cosmos could be out there, trying to bust Oleana and Rose out of prison and actually finding another way with which to scare Galar into complicity. How well that would even go is a whole different question… because the new champ is even stronger than Leon, and THAT is real fucking bad news for anyone who would want to establish themselves.

Pokemon Card of the Day #2760: Cyrus Prism Star (Ultra Prism)
Tumblr media
The Prism Star mechanic wasn’t limited to Pokemon. Trainers and even Special Energy could be Prism Stars as well. Cyrus Prism Star was a Supporter, meaning it had the restrictions of that as well as of the Prism Star being limited to 1 per deck and going to the Lost Zone instead of the discard pile. You could also only play it if your Active Pokemon was Water- or Metal-type, which restricted it even more. Your reward for using it was that your opponent had to choose 2 of their Benched Pokemon and shuffled the others and all cards attached to them into their deck. The best chance for it, theoretically, would be in the later UPR-On format in Zacian decks, where someone with just 2 Benched Pokemon was somewhat likely to just lose against a Zacian V. Chances to do that, in practice, were rather limited, as large Benches were rather common for many decks.
Things have become a bit different in Expanded recently, to the point that I feel I should mention the big combo here. The main set-up involves a lot of cards. Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR is the Active Pokemon in this scenario, and Electrode-GX blows up (and gives up 2 Prizes) and dumps a bunch of Rainbow and Aurora Energy onto it. Cyrus Prism Star gets played, getting rid of 2 Benched Pokemon, and ideally get a KO and an extra turn with its Star Chronos VSTAR Power. Then you Scramble Switch on your second turn in a row to Giratina & Garchomp-GX for a GG End GX to discard 2 more Pokemon. A full Bench would still leave 1 Pokemon in play, but anyone with less than that would just lose. With all the things that had to be set up and with one chance at 4 different effects, it’s hard to set up, but is devastating when it works and is easily the best Cyrus Prism Star has ever been.
