Chalcedony vs Aquamarine: Is it the Same?
Gemstones have held a timeless fascination for humanity, gracing jewelry pieces and adornments with their captivating beauty. Chalcedony and aquamarine are two distinct gemstones that often invite comparison due to their shared color palette and appearance. However, beneath the surface, these stones unveil a world of differences in terms of composition, origin, and properties. In this article, we delve into the nuanced distinctions between chalcedony and aquamarine, shedding light on their individual characteristics and dispelling the misconception that they are one and the same.
Chalcedony: A Glimpse into Elegance
Chalcedony, a member of the quartz family, is a microcrystalline variety of silica that presents itself in an array of delicate colors. With its soothing pastels, it has been cherished throughout history for its elegance and versatility. Found in various forms, including as nodules, geodes, and stalactites, chalcedony exhibits a translucent to opaque appearance, and its luster can range from waxy to vitreous.
Properties of Chalcedony
1. Composition:
Chalcedony is composed of fine intergrowths of quartz and moganite, two varieties of silica minerals. This intricate composition contributes to its distinctive appearance and texture.
2. Colors:
Chalcedony is renowned for its soft, tranquil colors such as light blue, pink, lavender, gray, and white. These hues are often mottled or streaked, adding to its visual appeal.
3. Varieties:
Chalcedony encompasses a range of varieties, including agate, jasper, carnelian, and onyx, each with its unique characteristics and patterns.
4. Translucency:
Most chalcedony stones possess varying degrees of translucency, allowing light to pass through them and creating a subtle play of color and light.
Aquamarine: A Glimmering Ocean Gem
Aquamarine, in contrast, belongs to the beryl family, a mineral group that includes emerald and morganite. Known for its entrancing blue hues reminiscent of clear ocean waters, aquamarine has long been cherished for its association with serenity and tranquility. As a mineral, beryl is composed of beryllium aluminum cyclosilicate, giving aquamarine its distinct composition and captivating color.

Properties of Aquamarine
1. Composition:
Aquamarine’s chemical composition comprises beryllium, aluminum, and silicate. Its distinct crystal structure is responsible for the captivating blue shades that range from pale to deep blue-green.
2. Color:
The hallmark color of aquamarine is a delicate blue, which can be attributed to the presence of iron within its crystal lattice. The specific shade can vary, reminiscent of clear ocean waters or a serene sky.
3. Clarity:
Aquamarine is often admired for its exceptional clarity. Large, eye-clean specimens are common, making it a preferred choice for faceted gemstones that showcase its brilliance.
4. Durability:
Beryl, including aquamarine, boasts good hardness on the Mohs scale. This makes aquamarine durable enough for various jewelry types while still requiring some care to avoid potential damage.
Chalcedony vs Aquamarine: Is it the Same?
Chalcedony and aquamarine, while sharing a spectrum of blue hues, are distinct gemstones with unique attributes. Chalcedony, a type of quartz, showcases delicate pastel colors and includes varieties like agate and carnelian. Aquamarine, a member of the beryl family, exhibits captivating oceanic blue shades. Their differing compositions and properties set them apart: chalcedony’s microcrystalline structure contrasts with aquamarine’s beryl composition and exceptional clarity. While resembling each other at a glance, understanding their individual characteristics is crucial for making informed choices when selecting these exquisite gems for jewelry or collections.
Distinguishing Between Chalcedony and Aquamarine
While chalcedony and aquamarine might share some visual similarities due to their color ranges, several key distinctions set them apart:
1. Composition:
Chalcedony is a variety of quartz with a unique composition of quartz and moganite, while aquamarine is a distinct mineral with a composition of beryllium aluminum cyclosilicate.
2. Color Depth:
Aquamarine’s blue tones are often more saturated and intense, evoking the tranquility of deep ocean waters. Chalcedony’s color palette encompasses a broader range of pastel hues.
3. Transparency:
Aquamarine’s transparency and clarity often surpass those of chalcedony. The crystal structure of beryl contributes to aquamarine’s exceptional brilliance.
4. Hardness:
Aquamarine, being a beryl mineral, boasts a higher level of hardness on the Mohs scale compared to chalcedony. This difference affects the stone’s durability and suitability for different jewelry applications.
Can chalcedony and aquamarine be used in jewelry?
Certainly, both chalcedony and aquamarine are popular choices for jewelry. Chalcedony’s diverse pastel hues and delicate translucency make it versatile for various jewelry styles, from casual to elegant. It’s often carved into cameos, beads, and cabochons, and used in earrings, pendants, and rings. On the other hand, aquamarine’s captivating blue shades evoke a serene aquatic allure, making it a sought-after gem for high-end jewelry pieces. Its excellent transparency and durability lend themselves well to faceted cuts, enhancing its brilliance in rings, necklaces, and earrings. Both gemstones offer unique aesthetics that can add sophistication and charm to any jewelry collection.
Chalcedony vs. Aquamarine: Which Is More Expensive?
In terms of pricing, aquamarine is generally more expensive than chalcedony. The rarity of aquamarine’s deep blue tones, along with its association with the beryl family, contributes to its higher market value. Aquamarine’s exceptional clarity and durability, combined with its captivating color, make it a sought-after gemstone for jewelry. Chalcedony, while offering a wide range of beautiful pastel colors, is more readily available and tends to be more affordable. The price difference is influenced by factors such as gemstone type, quality, size, and overall demand, making aquamarine the premium choice between the two.

Choosing the Perfect Gemstone for You
Selecting between chalcedony and aquamarine ultimately depends on personal preference and the intended use. Chalcedony, with its soft pastels and diverse varieties, offers a versatile range suitable for various jewelry styles and occasions. On the other hand, aquamarine’s captivating blue hues and exceptional clarity make it a timeless choice for elegant and eye-catching pieces.
Conclusion
Chalcedony and aquamarine, though frequently associated due to their shared color spectrum, are distinct gemstones with unique compositions, properties, and origins. Chalcedony’s microcrystalline elegance contrasts with the alluring blue allure of aquamarine, born from the depths of the beryl family. Understanding their differences not only deepens our appreciation for their individual beauty but also aids in making informed choices when it comes to incorporating these gems into jewelry pieces that reflect our style and personality.

Tattoo Ink - The Chemistry of Tattoo Ink Tattoo ink is an ink used for tattooing. It commonly consists of pigment and carrier. Tattoo ink is manufactured in a wide range of colors which can be further mixed to produce any shade. As we tattoo ourselves for thousands of years we make tattoo ink just as long. Earliest inks were made of charcoal, ash and other materials that could be found in nature. As the time passed more complex recipes for ink were invented. Roman physician Aetius had a recipe for tattoo ink that consisted of pine bark, corroded bronze mixed with vinegar, insect eggs and vitriol. Modern inks don't differ too much from these ancient ones in terms of dangerous materials that they have. In United States tattoo inks should be subject to regulation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration but FDA says on their website that “FDA has not approved any tattoo pigments for injection into the skin” and that “many pigments used in tattoo inks are industrial-grade colors suitable for printers' ink or automobile paint”. Some tattoo inks can have heavy metals in them like mercury lead, cadmium, nickel, zinc, chromium, cobalt, aluminum, titanium, copper, iron and barium. Others can have metal oxides like ferrocyanide and ferricyanide and other elements like antimony, arsenic, beryllium, calcium, lithium, selenium, and sulfur. Carrier used to the turn the powdered pigment into liquid is usually ethyl alcohol or water but some inks are made with denatured alcohols, methanol, rubbing alcohol, propylene glycol, and glycerine. What are Stanley Proto Hand tools used for?
If you use a Stanley Proto Hand Tool , it is extremely difficult for you to lose control of it. In some terms, it is much better to use such a tool than an electric one; it is always good to have the help of a tool since it makes our lives much more manageable. These objects have existed since prehistory, but in the 19th century, they changed completely; the advances made in the tools were extremely impressive.
What materials are they made of?
Stanley Proto Hand tools are made of different materials:
• Almost all are made of iron, steel, or aluminum.
• A long time ago, tools were made of wood.
• Hand tools are made from Rubber, plastic, fiber, steel, and iron.
• Many are created with other metals and materials, but iron and steel are the most commonly used metals.
• Sometimes, an alloy is made between these two metals, each offering an outstanding specific characteristic.
What are non-sparking tools?
In all types of work, it is necessary to meet specific requirements when it comes to occupational risk prevention. This type of risk can occur in environments where there is the possibility of free combustible gases. Two metals coming into touch with one another can cause an explosion. That is why Non Sparking & Sparkless Tools are used in petrochemical companies, ammunition plants, electrical companies, and warehouses for fuel or flammable material.
What materials do these tools contain?
Non-ferrous alloys made of bronze and copper are often the most common materials utilized to make these tools. Although bronze and aluminum are the most popular combination (in terms of pricing), this does not necessarily mean it is the best choice.
Copper, in alloy with materials such as beryllium, nickel, and cobalt, is the ideal material for manufacturing non-sparking tools. Even having a higher cost, its greater hardness represents an added value, and sometimes they increase in duration and compensates for the higher purchase cost. Non-sparking tools also have anti-corrosion properties for use in harsh work environments.
Pneumatic air impact tools
• A wrench is a tool that turns a hexagon bolt. In the case of a hand tool, a socket wrench for hand tools is attached to the handle for tightening work. The air impact wrench is a Pneumatic Impact tools Port Harcourt version that saves labor and allows you to tighten with greater torque.
Features of Pneumatic air impact tool
• To tighten and loosen bolts and nuts, it is connected to an air compressor and operates on compressed air. It is used in many fields, such as attaching and detaching tires and wheels of automobiles at maintenance shops, assembling work at factories, and putting on and taking off concrete formwork and molds at construction sites.
• An air motor rotates the hammer, and tightening is performed by the impact of the hammer hitting the anvil.
• Pneumatic air impact wrenches are smaller and more powerful than electric impact wrenches of equivalent capacity.
• It is used by attaching a socket to the anvil (tip).
Conclusion: Please note that the anvil size differs depending on the model, and the socket that can be attached also differs. The size of the anvil is expressed by the socket mounting angle, socket insertion angle, output angle, etc., depending on the manufacturer

Treated steel has been utilized since many years and is viewed as the fundamental groundwork of each and every industry. Aside from its elements like high solidness, erosion opposition and staining, ending up enduring and financially savvy arrangement. Spring and wires hold extraordinary significance in the present time. Throughout the long term the purposes and types of it has seen emotional changes. Silicon Bronze Mig Wire for spring is one such result of it and has extraordinary numerous applications.
Here are probably the most normally found and utilized spring and wire alongside their purposes
Pressure Springs: Compression ring offers protection from a compressive power that is applied pivotally. The spring is obviously wound as a consistent breadth. However various sorts of wire segments are effectively tracked down like square, rectangular or cross-area. Be that as it may, the cycle one is prevalent in such kind of springs due to their simplicity of accessibility.
Expansion Springs: An expansion ring is intended to offer opposition against a pulling force. While the spring is being pulled outward the protection from the underlying strain increments by manifolds. The underlying pressure decides the heap limit of the spring.
Twist Springs: It is associated with many parts. At the point when this large number of parts together apply force onto the spring and the spring attempts to push back the parts to their unique position. These are broadly utilized in a scope of utilizations and effectively tracked down in merchandise of day-to-day use, mousetraps, auto suspensions and that's just the beginning.
Drawbar Springs: It is utilized under unambiguous circumstances as it were. The drawbar spring highlights an implicit security include that after breaking keeps on conveying the static burden. One of the normal applications is viewed as the help gave in porch swing.
Magazine Springs: Magazine spring is a famous sort of pressure spring. They are generally rectangular in shape and are otherwise called accuracy jumps on guns. These are intended for specific applications as it were.

Welcome to today’s lesson in fusion reactors, where there are startlingly few explanations in layman’s terms! Today’s topic: divertors.
A divertor is basically an exhaust system for a fusion reactor, venting both waste heat (which can melt the machine) and waste helium (transmuted from hydrogen, which dampens the reaction). All tokamaks these days are diverted, but there’s still so much left to learn!
It’s very hard to find good diagrams that aren’t too technical, so here’s that promo picture of SPARC again. I’ve circled the divertors in red:
Tumblr media
SPARC will have two divertors, one on top and one on the bottom. That’s called a “double-null” configuration. Many tokamaks just have a lower divertor, which is called “single-null.” Each divertor has two legs, one inner and one outer. You can see that SPARC’s divertors have super long outer legs and little stubby inner legs — I’ll talk about why in a later post!
Promo pics are all well and good, but let’s look at some real photographs! I’ve been focusing too much on American tokamaks on this tumblr, so let’s move a bit farther afield. Here are some examples from overseas:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is ASDEX-Upgrade, a tokamak in Germany. ASDEX-U has been one of the most important experiments for divertor science! It just has a lower divertor, so it always burns single-null plasma. On the right, you can see a photograph where the plasma glows brightly as it strikes the tips of the divertor legs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is EAST, a tokamak in China. EAST has both upper and lower divertors, so it can run in either single- or double-null mode. It currently holds the record for longest-burning plasma, where it runs for minutes at a time! On the right you can see a timelapse of a double-null plasma, where the divertors on both the top and bottom glow.
One of the biggest challenges with divertors is heat. There are always two spots where the plasma directly strikes, and these points get hot. Very hot. Like, spacecraft reentry hot, or hotter. Building a divertor that doesn’t melt is hard. Off the top of my head, I think DIII-D in San Diego uses a graphite divertor, WEST in France is an all-tungsten machine, and JET in the UK has used tungsten and beryllium.
There’s a lot more to talk about: the “detached” and “swept” divertors at Alcator C-Mod at MIT, pros and cons of single-null and double-null, the whole deal with the long-legged SPARC divertors, and so on. I’ll cover some of that later! But for now, I leave you with one of the most baffling questions in divertor research:
Who decided to spell it “divertor” instead of “diverter?” That’s just cruel to science journalists, and doubly cruel to their editors.

Where e-waste goes and what it does once it gets there
Tumblr media
Reality Show by Fredo de Luna
Like me, you’ve probably never wondered past the pleasures you’ve taken out of your everyday “smart” objects or devices. They bring us the ability to experience life on an otherwise unimaginable scale. We experience joy, laughter, sadness, and an emotional rollercoaster of in between emotions with friends, family, strangers, or just our lonesome. The best part of enjoying our products is knowing that something “better, faster, smarter, thinner” is just around the corner waiting to be unearthed to the general population with the latest and greatest packed into a compact platform. Stop me if you’ve heard this one already but, “This is our best…ever made”.
Usually, that’s all it takes to immediately want to discard your current devices; not that you need to have it, but you want to have the latest desirable product on the market. Trends can be dangerous in more ways that are less obvious. To put this into perspective for you consider this; “In every 1 million recycled cell phones, 35,274 lbs. of copper, 772 lbs. of silver,75 lbs. of gold, and 33 lbs. of palladium can be recovered.” [2] That is a lot of precious metals! Yet “In 2016 roughlyonly 20% of global waste was collected and properly recycled” [2]. Which begs the following question. Have you ever stopped and ask yourself what happens once you decide your old smartphone or electronic devices are no longer worth keeping?
For those of us living in First World nations such as Canada, The United States, Japan, The European Union (to name a few) this is more of an afterthought than anything else. For all we know, we have a recycling program where our waste is collected and disposed of accordingly. Heck, once it’s in the trash it’s really not your problem; you’re doing your part to save the environment one sorting bin at a time and for that, you deserve a pat on the back. Or do you?
Do you really know what happens to your e-waste? Well, let me explain what happens to your e-waste. At some point your e-waste will journey from your home to a recycling facility, eventually, the more troublesome components that are too difficult to breakdown are exported from your country and imported into developing nation such as West Africa, India, China, Vietnam, or The Philippines (to name a few). Why has my garbage ended up on the other side of the world and what is it doing there you may ask? Well, in short, developing nations are paid to import your e-waste. There is typically an agreement in place between developed nations so that they can continue to send their garbage elsewhere instead of keeping the majority of it within their own borders. What happens next takes place at various landfill sites in these developing nations.
Firstly, there is a process coined informal recycling. This is a term that is used to describe manual (usually hard) labour whereas marginal groups are used to further break down these products or otherwise mine for precious metals such as gold or silver. The conditions are less than ideal and do an extenuating amount of harm to the local and external ecosystems in neighbouring communities, towns, cities, or even other countries. The damage occurs in many different instances which upset the delicate balance of the environment.
Tumblr media
Environmental Disaster by Alex Proimos (CC-BY-NC 2.0)
Let's take a closer look at air pollution in the atmosphere. This typically occurs when open-air burning is used to separate precious metals instead of a more refined process like an incinerator. These heavy metals such as mercury, beryllium, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and brominated flame retardants are extremely toxic. From this process, alone harmful particulates are released into the atmosphere which is carried by the wind into neighbouring ecosystems the results for which are more clear long term similar to the immediate effects on the individuals involved in this process.
The workers involved in these hazardous conditions are typically the first ones to be impacted directly through the absorption of heavy metals into their bodies via dioxins or persistent environmental pollutants (POP). A study concluded, “humans working with, and around electronic waste showed elevated blood levels of metals” [1] similar to the ones mentioned earlier. This is very unfortunate as the majority of these individuals who have had direct exposure to these toxins will develop long term illnesses such as cancer, organ damage, neurological damage digestive problems, bone issues and respiratory ailments. Also, with the accelerated output of dioxins into the air young mothers without the appropriate level of access to medical care can develop a build-up of dioxins in their breast milk which in turn is passed on to infants via breastfeeding. This is a cascading effect as the amount passed on usually exceeds The World Health Organization (WHO) tolerance for young infants affecting many future generations to come with similar ailments. You should know “dioxins accumulate in human bodies for roughly 7-11 years”.[4]
So now that you understand better how the labourers are affected let's dig further to see what happens when these toxins from e-waste are not properly contained and leach into the soil. The obvious result here is the “soil-crop food pathway” [2]is contaminated. Once the soil has been corrupted with heavy metals the crops are also essentially poisoned. This disrupts their agricultural production as the once nitrate rich farmlands become desolate and baron. Food yield is impacted not just for the human population but the animal ones as well.
Furthermore, to the soil being the tipping point let’s continue to burrow down and see the effect on groundwater. The obvious conclusion here is that it becomes contaminated with heavy metals too, which can leak out into nearby streams, ponds, lakes and rivers to do further harm. The water essentially becomes toxic, the inhabitants of those ecosystems develop higher levels of toxicity which means any fish or aquatic organisms become dangerous to consume

So, as you can see from my home to yours there is a series of very precise actions that result in the perpetuation of instability as a result of how e-waste is exported to offshore developing nations. In our next post, we will more closely explore the limiting factors that impact the ecosystem further. In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about this growing concern the BBC has written an excellent article worth exploring.

2. Big spoon / little spoon?
It’s an accident, she tells herself, because they’d been drinking all night, and the movie was especially boring so of course they were going to accidentally fall asleep. And Kara’s couch isn’t even really big enough for two people to sleep on unless they’re fully and completely tangled up in each other, and so that is how Lena wakes with the length of Kara pressed snugly against her. It’s not spooning, she tells herself, because it wasn’t on purpose, and because Lena’s always the little spoon, always has been in every other relationship she’s ever been in, and then she catches herself on that thought, and God, what the fuck is she even doing, thinking of this in terms of spooning and relationships and anything other than falling asleep warm and sleepy and drunk with her best friend?
The next time, it ... might have been on purpose. But maybe it wasn’t? Because Kara shows up at her door, wide-eyed and fragile and full with apologies but she’s just had a nightmare and can she please come inside and just try not to think about it for a while? And what is Lena going to do but let her? But make her tea, and sit her on the couch, and watch with a heart overflowing as her best friend’s eyes grow heavy and tired? So when Lena puts Kara in her own bed, tells her that it’s too late to go home now, and why doesn’t she just stay until morning because it’s no bother, really, she doesn’t mind the couch at all-- when she does this, it can all still be written off as another accident. But when Kara reaches for Lena’s hand, holds her back and tugs her toward the bed, says something sleepy and nonsensical like sleep here, it’s fine, Lena-- this is when it starts to gain purpose. When Lena lays stiff and nervous in her bed, because she doesn’t want to disturb her best friend, it still paints itself in her mind as an accident. And then Kara drags Lena into the center of the bed and presses into her with all the stumbling grace of a sleepy kitten, and she pulls Lena by the wrist and brackets her own body with Lena’s arm, and Lena allows herself to think, for the first time, oh.
She wakes the next morning to the tickle of blonde hair on her lips and the hot skin of Kara’s stomach beneath her hand, and just when her body is settling soft into the sensation, absorbing the shock of it, the woman in front of her shakes gently with a laugh, whispers, I always knew you’d be the perfect big spoon. And Lena has to admit it then, doesn’t she? That it was never an accident, not really; it was never going to be anything but inevitable for them to end up this way.
4. Favorite non-sexual activity?
Kara visits Lena Luthor six times in the ten days since she’s met her. At first it’s professional (sort of) and then it’s strictly out of curiosity (Kara swears) and by the fourth visit, when Lena sheepishly admits that no, she hasn’t eaten lunch yet today either, Kara makes a habit of bouncing into the top suite of the L-Corp building any time she has a break in her work (and several times when she doesn’t.) It’s weird for Lena, at first, because who is this bright reporter who chooses to spend her lunch breaks in a suffocating corporate office across from a suffocating corporate woman with a last name like Luthor? But she’s relentless, and she’s so pure, and before Lena realizes it, the best part of her week is when Kara’s brightness floods even her darkest corners.
Three months into it, Kara nonchalantly asks so what do you do for fun? and Lena is so lost for an answer that it almost chokes her up, because... she doesn’t know. She has a megacorporation to manage and a violent family legacy to outrun and it’s been many, many, years-- since the little lab in the garage with Jack, probably-- since she’s done something for fun. She makes the mistake of telling Kara exactly this, and Kara’s heart breaks. But what do you do when you’re stressed out, Kara demands to know, or when you’re sad, or when you have free time, and Lena can tell that her answers (work, work, I don’t) are all wrong by the way Kara’s eyebrows pull together in genuine concern. And Kara looks so heart-heavy and like she wants to hug Lena, and it makes Lena feel weird, because she wants Kara who smiles and laughs loud and not Kara who looks like she wants to protect Lena from everything bad the world has ever done to her. It’s this thought, this desperate need for Kara’s smile back, that removes all filters between Lena’s brain and her lips. So Kara asks when is the last time you felt really happy, and Lena, without a moment’s hesitation, blurts every time you’re here and then it sits between them, sparkling and dangerous, until Kara smiles wide wide wide and says that’s...how I’ve felt too.
23. Who comes up with cheesy pickup lines?
The first time Kara sends her a pickup line, Lena threatens to block her number, and Kara’s only half-sure that she’s joking. But it’s funny because you’re a scientist, Lena, she argues, because Barium and Beryllium spell BaBe-- and Lena knows that, obviously, because she knows the periodic table better than she knows her own face, so she tells Kara as much. Kara tries one that ends with because you’re out of this world but laughs too much to get the delivery right. It’s because I’m an alien, Lena, don’t you get it-- and Lena gets it, of course she gets it, but she’ll be damned if she admits that it’s funny, and watching Kara try to fight back laughter is cuter than any pickup line is, anyway.
And this is how they end up sprawled across Lena’s couch, Kara reading pickup lines from a blog post that hasn’t been updated since 2011, and Lena rolling her eyes with more and more fervor after each one, and then it strikes Lena out of the blue. She does her best to maintain a casual facade when she says I’ve thought of one, actually, but the look of unrestrained joy on Kara’s face pulls a smile from Lena, too. Do you know what solipsism is? She asks Kara, and it’s Kara’s turn to roll her eyes this time, because even though she was to be in Krypton’s science guild, she still learned basic philosophy, Lena. If the theory of solipsism holds true--and suddenly she’s so excited to get to the punchline, and maybe she’s been judging Kara too hard, because this is fun-- and everything in this reality is created by my mind, then you are literally the best thing I’ve ever come up with. Kara’s lips part in something like shock and she is so quiet for so long that Lena wonders if she’s done it wrong-- is that not how pickup lines work? Did it not make sense? But then Kara’s kissing her and kissing her and kissing her and between breathy sighs she laughs gently because I can’t believe that even when you’re going for cheesy, it still ends up being the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me.

It’s funny to see how far I’ve kinda come, because I had a strong love for this and most other anthro shows back in the 90s bc they looks excellent but also because I couldn’t draw humans worth a god damn and ended up anthro-ing all the humans, but now I can human the anthros :’B Also because I have no self-control, actual human names and backgrounds below. I might actually have to write this AU at some point.
WILLIAM ‘WILL’ FLETCHER ie. ‘WILDWING’
30yrs
Canadian (Eh)
Half-brother to Nate Fletcher (Same father, different mothers). Despite this, they have a generally good relationship with each other.
It doesn’t mean they don’t have their issues however; Will believes his father chose Nate as the man stayed with Nate and Nate’s mother, while Nate believes Will is the favorite because they never hear their dad stop comparing their accomplishments as a troubled teen to straightlaced Will.
A decorated ice hockey player in his youth, won several state championships.
Formerly a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, did a security stint in Afghanistan from 2009-2014.
Returned to Canada, opened a youth hockey camp to leave behind his old life before the Saurian threat at which point he was called up by his absentee military father to help spearhead a team of saboteurs.
Initially reluctant, however the death of his best friend and former army comrade, Connor Tiberius, during a rescue of captured citizens spurns him to accept on his terms in which he picks the team members.
Responsible, dependable, good-natured, more bookish than his size and stature might suggest, some self-esteem issues and very much a wary but bleeding heart. In his baby brother’s affectionate words, a “Major Dweeb”.
Trilingual; Canadian-French, English (fluent), Pashto (intermediate).
His codename ‘Wildwing’ came from Connor, who affectionately gave it to him as he was the best ‘wingman’ a soldier could ask for on the field and his habit of going from bookish to ballistic when faced with any injustice. His civilian outfit includes a bomber jacket with wings decorated over the back to commemorate his best friend.
Literally the only member of the team to actually be associated with ice hockey. The others picked it up gradually as a way to bond with each other and discuss battle tactics.
NATHAN ‘NATE’ FLETCHER ie. ‘NOSEDIVE’
20yrs
American
Half-brother to Will Fletcher, unofficially the ‘team baby’ which is something he tries hard to break out of.
Seen as a delinquent in his youth and battling with ADHD, his father strongarmed him to enlist with the Air Force when he was 17 to try and ‘shape him up’ and while he absolutely bucked under the chains of command, he proved to be a natural at flying which both amazed and frustrated his officers when he would ace their flying exams but often break out to fly the planes when he wasn’t suppose to.
Due to perceived attitude problems, he was dismissed much to the anger of his father, but was quickly roped into the same role by Will who saw his potential in combating Dragaunus’ forces.
Hotheaded, impulsive and immature but also loyal, gregarious and friendly to a fault.
Will not stand for anyone badmouthing Will. That’s his brother and only he’s allowed to joke about them.
Codename ‘Nosedive’ was chosen because of the stunts he used to pull in the plane and also as a take-that moment to his father who would often complain about how everything good they tried to do for ‘this kid’ would ‘nosedive into shit’.
Oscillates between loving Will as the only family member to have really given a damn about him and see any potential in him at all and resenting Will for in his eyes, being everything he felt he couldn’t be.
Often in charge of flying the team jet.
Bilingual; English (fluent), Canadian-French (beginner. For Will, he’s trying).
MALLORY MACKENZIE
27yrs
Irish-American
A former cop who idolized her Sergeant mother who was killed helping to defend NYC from Dragaunus’ marauding forces.
She knows Will as a good friend through Connor Tiberius who was an old boyfriend prior to his death.
Has been tracking Duke’s movements for some time prior to the invasion, dead-set on bringing the jewel thief to justice. Not particularly enthused about his way of life, but does care for him in her own way as it was during their little chases that she would have conversations she couldn’t have had otherwise with someone she believed would have no role to play in her life outside of prison time.
When he consoled her after the death of her mother and she had to tend to him after he was gravely injured during a rescue, a strained friendship grew as they defended NYC together for a while with her banding together the remaining cops of the Central Park precinct and him putting together a coalition of small-time criminals who turned their tricks to beat off the alien invasion until Will called her up as a member of his new saboteur team.
In a spur of the moment, she asked Duke to come with her, vouching for his set of skills to Will and despite their back-and-forth snarking (mostly snarking from her, mostly teasing from him), they work with each other the best out of the team.
Her hatred for Draganus is strongest out of all the team and of all of them, she’s the most adept at hand-to-hand combat.
Has no use for code names—-the people she loves are dead or on the same team as her so she sees no point to it.
Pugnacious, Black-And-white view of the world and judgmental but also confident, decisive and fiercely determined. If she has her mind set something, she’s Terminator levels of terrifying to see it through.
Speaks only English but understands Arabic and French to an intermediate degree even if she can’t trust her tongue to speak it, if only to understand what Duke is saying at times (as he unwittingly tends to jump between his three ‘fluent’ languages in conversation).
DULQUER LATEEF ie. ‘DUKE L’ORANGE’
35yrs
French-Algerian
A renown jewel thief (simply known as the ‘Duke’) with a knack for stealing blood diamonds from diamond barons to channel their proceeds back to the communities they were pilfered from. Actually thinks the diamond industry is a huge joke, but it’s a joke some morons pay insanely dangerous amounts of money for. Prefers other jewels on a personal basis (fond of rubies and amethysts)
Ran his own gang back in France called the Brotherhood of the Blade, got caught up in the invasion when he decided to work his heists in New York.
His codename came from the inability of people to properly pronounce his name in his youth and so ‘Dulq’ became ‘Duke’ in due time. ‘L’Orange’ was what happened when having to come up with a surname on the spot during a heist in the States, he blurted out the first vaguely-French word he could remember which was ‘L’Orange’ ie. ‘duck a l’orange’ which was what a former target of his ordered and when his gang brethren found out, it amused them so much they talked him into keeping it as a full part of his nom de plume. He keeps it, because it helps his remaining family stay safe that no one knows his real name and he prefers it that way.
He and Mallory had something he likes to describe as a ‘dance’, with her continuously tracking him down and him escaping her clutches at the last moment. He’s absolutely tickled that they’re now on the same team.
Cares for the team the deepest due to having run his own back home and missing the brotherhood and his own family, always aware of everyone’s emotional and physical condition to the point he disregards his own at times.
Seriously, hurt his new family and you die.
The most streetwise of the team and adept with any form of blade-play and stealth/subterfuge.
Lost his eye and gained the scar on his face fending off ‘Wraith’ for as long as he could from a geologist with knowledge of Beryllium crystals.
The cybernetic eye he hides behind his eyepatch was given to him by Mallory who came across it while evacuating scientists (Including Tanya) from a lab under siege. She obtained it as willing ‘payment’ from them and had them help install it on Duke, claiming that he was only as much use to the rebellion as the clarity of his depth of field. (In truth, was well aware of how shaken he was from the loss of his eye). Cybernetic eye has x-ray and heat-seeking capabilities.
Fond of Mallory (who he may or may not be harboring feelings for but is also aware that he’s greying, a criminal and damaged, like who’s he kidding), Tanya (something of a younger sister to him especially since she’s the scientist who helped install his new eye) and Will (who he treats like a little brother he gotta teach the workings of the streets to).
Egoistical, questionable morals and unconcerned with ‘the big picture’ of global invasion but also surprisingly compassionate, open-minded and does his best to see the good in everyone (He’s a thief eh?)
Something of an omniglot due to his background and the different people he ends up having to work with; Fluent in French, English and Arabic, intermediate in Mandarin, Spanish and Italian, beginner in Japanese and Russian.
TANYA VANDERBILT
30yrs
German
A scientist working mostly with cyberkinetics who also made use of Beryllium crystals (the same the Saurians are coveting) in her technology and upon the invasion, her entire lab and research became a target.
She was rescued by Mallory and has since then tagged along with the fiery redhead who sees her as a sister, augmenting her gear and weapons where needed and even providing Duke with his energy sword.
Absolutely not a combatant, has no field experience and is most often found back at the base playing her role as Command central or guarding the ship while the group go on their recon missions.
Sees herself as deadweight sometimes though her comrades will always attest that they’d probably be dead out there if not for her tech and in-depth knowledge.
Meek, easily terrified and a bit of a pushover, but also innovative, multi-talented in diverse sections of science and always eager to help.
Speaks English and German, understands intermediate Japanese due to most of her lab co-workers.
CASSIUS ‘CASH’ HARDING ie. ‘GRIN’
40yrs
African-American
Originally a pro-wrestler working the circuits, he was caught up in the Saurian invasion and captured as a test subject in order for the invaders to figure out the biological weaknesses and breaking point of humans at their prime.
Was the subject of multiple experiments, but strove to keep up the spirits of his fellow prisoners by way of story, meditation and keeping a genial facade.
Was among the prisoners Conrad attempted to free before they died, led the prisoner rebellion and immediately joined up as a member of Will’s team upon finding out that he was Conrad’s best friend—-paying off his dues, as it were.
Unfortunately for the Saurians, their experiments had been in the midst of testing out how much augmented strength a human body could take before breaking, which left him with well, augmented strength to go with an extremely high pain threshold from both his old job and his ordeal. That said, the strength comes with a caveat that prolonged use of it could lead to organ failure due to the strain he has to put on them and thus he’s only able to work with it for short bursts of five to ten minutes depending on the task.
Despite his size, is generally the pacifist of the group more concerned with keeping people safe than facing down Dragaunus’ hordes—he leaves that to the actual soldiers. If you pissed him off in some way, you have fucked up super bad.
Bonds with Will and Nate quickly, rather like a stable older brother or uncle figure who realizes these two worlds-apart siblings have issues and are way over their head with these new responsibilities and tries his best to keep them grounded.
Hesitant, tendency to shy away from confrontation and almost on an emotional lockdown but also amicable, stoic and uncannily perceptive.
Speaks mostly English with a strong smattering/understanding of Jamaican Creole.
The codename ‘Grin’ came from his tendency to ‘grin and bear it’ when it came to punishment or altercations.

With that established, let’s get going on the reading and the chatting!
QUESTION 1. What has been your favorite strip in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it?
QUESTION 2. Of the ongoing strips connected by the same characters or themes, which one do you like the most and why?
RebelVampire
QUESTION 3. At the moment, who is your favorite character? What about that character earns them this favor?
QUESTION 4. Which of the jokes related to literature, novels, and/or libraries caught your attention the most? What about that strip in general stuck out to you in how it was executed?
Eightfish
1. Unfortunately, even if I've heard of or read the books referenced in this comic I'm not sure I really "get" the strips. I feel like most of the punchlines are going over my head. But I liked this once: https://thirteenthchild.net/readingdays/comic/judging-a-book-by-its-cover-the-dragon-and-the-george/ It reminded me of me and my friends making fun of the trashy action and romance paperbacks at the free books section of the library. Those campy titles and detailed art have a lot of charm and character to them.(edited)
RebelVampire
QUESTION 5. What has been your favorite illustration in the comic so far? What specifically about it do you like?
QUESTION 6. Which of the pop culture joke strips was your favorite and why? In what ways do you think this comic succeeds in using pop culture for humor in general?
RebelVampire
1) My favorite strip so far is probably this one. https://thirteenthchild.net/readingdays/comic/what-science-goes-there/ Not only is it a sneaky callback to a very famous sci-fi story, but anything with science cat entertains me. I also like just the...kind of weird dramatic tone this comic has until the last panel where its flipped to deliver the comedy. 2) My fave ongoing series is definitely Science Cat's. I'm just...really biased towards cats. Plus, I really just love the combination between having something education, something comedic, and also something with hints of both science and cat behavior. I love both topics, so for me it's a match made in heaven. 3) Science Cat is my favorite character. Legit, how can you not love a science cat? 4) I actually really like the Judging a Book By its Cover series. Such as this strip for example. https://thirteenthchild.net/readingdays/comic/judging-a-book-by-its-cover-the-last-dark-elf/ Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of great references and such to literature that I adore (such as my fave strip), but I really like this series focusing on covers. I've personally always thought a lot of book covers, while well illustrated, and really, really weird given the title and contents of the book. So I'm really tickled pink by this series that's kind of pointing that out. Plus, it really does kind of demonstrate the impression a book cover gives us and why it's kind of important to consider the first impression book covers give. Which is why I think it works since it's based on these strange first impressions we might get.
5) My favorite illustration is definitely this strip. https://thirteenthchild.net/readingdays/comic/dr-science-cat-cat-scientists-tour-of-the-elements-berylium/ Besides my bias for space, I really love the lighting on this one. It really sells the location for me and gives it a nice sense of presence. Not necessarily needed, but I do love interesting lighting so I'll take it. 6) There are a lot of great pop culture jokes, but I'm gonna go with this Peanuts joke one https://thirteenthchild.net/readingdays/comic/every-time/ Besides the fact it's a classic, it was not the direction I expected it to go. Plus, that Lucy face just really sells it for me. Like its so horrifying in some way, which just makes it all the funnier to me. As for in general, I think this comic really just kind of knows how to balance the elements of pop culture while taking it unexpected directions like this. Where it makes sense in the universe/kind of fits in, yet exaggerates and plays on how ridiculous it could potentially be.
Tuyetnhi
1. I'm fond of the space odyssey parody like lmao. I'll post the link when I find it lol. I think it's just something as midwesterner that likes dry humor, it's a given lol.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 7. Which characters do you enjoy seeing interact the most? What about their dynamic interests you?
QUESTION 8. What was one educational thing you learned from Dr. Science Cat? Overall, what do you think we can learn from the comic in regards to combining education and comedy?
snuffysam
I find the interaction between Reginald and Gina to be really fun. I love the strips where Reginald tries his best to teach everyone meaningful life lessons (e.g. "reading is good") and then Gina comes with an attempt to loudly and completely undermine it. e.g. https://thirteenthchild.net/readingdays/comic/reginald-powers-in-the-root-of-all-yachts/ But, like, the interaction between them inadvertently teaches other lessons - that not everyone who shares your interests will do so in the same way. Gina and Reginald both like books, but they act on it in very different ways (like, Reginald would not likely break open a water main due to something he read on the spine of a book).
RebelVampire
QUESTION 9. What sorts of art or writing details have you noticed in the way the comic is crafted that you think deserves attention?
QUESTION 10. In what ways do you feel this comic stands apart from other gag of the day style comedy comics? Also, how do you feel the comic succeeds in making everything feel part of one thematically connected series?
RebelVampire
7) I probably enjoy seeing Science Cat interact with anybody really. I don't really have a particular preference where this one is concerned. Though I do somewhat enjoy more science cat interacting with other scientists, cause that allows science cat to be the silly one a bit more than usual. 8) The educational thing I learned was definitely the strip on Beryllium https://thirteenthchild.net/readingdays/comic/dr-science-cat-cat-scientists-tour-of-the-elements-berylium/. Beryllium is just an element I never really see talked about at all, so off the top of my head I don't know much about it other than it exists. I think this comic does show that comedy and education don't have to be enemies though. The more fun you make education, the easier it is to swallow. Plus, education doesn't have to be serious and boring all the time.
9) There isn't a specific detail I appreciate so much as the overall effort in so many pop culture references. There's a huge mix of books, anime, movies, video games, and so on. Despite how much we consume on a regular basis, it's still hard to know things so in depth to make jokes about them (since most people move on and consume more, which is totally fine of course). So I just appreciate that effort to store enough knowledge that these scenarios can be created. 10) I think this comic stands apart from other gag of the style days in terms of its variety. While there are certainly gag a day style comics that can be pretty varied, I feel this one kicks it up a notch more than usually with just how much it covers. I also think it succeeds more than a lot of other comics due to the sort of thematic connection the whole comic has. Though I can't put it into words, there's a real sense of writing style that is unique and present in all the strips. So in the end it makes the entire theme feel like a really cohesive comedy comic despite only some of the series being connected by the same characters.
Tuyetnhi
8. me answering questions out of order since I think rebel kinda cemented how I feel about the comic in general and Science cat but lmao. Me too about the Beryllium strip. It's kinda funny that a lot of folks who aren't in the education field don't think it's mutually inclusive to have humor and education content together. Yet a lot of educators are calling this connection to help with memory retention. rip speaking as a future educator, it's important to have these works.
science and art, they're closely related than most people think lol.
Tuyetnhi
10. Reginald's Character design for me stands out compared to other gag comics (tbh I wouldn't expect an octopus pop up frequently so kudos for it same for science cat lol). On terms of books read in my high school days, references in pop culture, and overarching moods about reading books and lit. is done well. I think it's just reminding me of the days I'd think about when I was a school kid, and it's kinda nostalgic that way imo.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 11. What do you think are this particular comic’s strengths? What do you think makes this comic unique? Please elaborate.
QUESTION 12. Overall, what do you think we can learn from the comic in regards to comedy writing and how to take inspiration from real life? In other words, how has your perspective on comedy been changed (even if only a little)?
keii4ii
11. I agree that this comic has HUGE variety going on. It covers so much stuff. Admittedly that's a barrier to entry for me, as most of the stuff that's being referred to, I am not familiar with. But even if I don't get it, I honestly think that's admirable and unique. It's a core part of its identity, and it's quite something to see how much fun the comic/author seems to be having, exploring all these different interests!
RebelVampire
QUESTION 13. What are you most looking forward to in the comic? Also, do you have any final thoughts to share overall?
QUESTION 14. What other topics or themes are you hoping to see addressed in the comic? Why do you think it would suit the comedic style the comic is going for?
RebelVampire
11) I think, as I've said before, it's the variety plus the knowledge that's going into the jokes. Want pop culture? It's there. Want literature? It's there. Want educational science stuff? It's there. There's just so much this comic offers in general that I think it adds to the overall charm. 12) For me, as ties into above, this comic kind of reminds me that you can have successful comedy even if not every joke connects with you. I am personally not a huge fan of comedy as a genre, as most stuff just isnt too my taste. However, with comics like this, it's okay if not everything was to my taste. Because of the variety, there were still strips I really liked. So at the end, the comic as a whole did not need to connect with me to be, as an overall thing, something that succeeded as comedy for me. And I think that's a good takeaway for comedy writing in general. Comedy is probably the most divisive of all genres, so it's nice to see when that doesn't really hinder someone making it.
13) Science cat. I need more science cat in my life teaching me about elements. Cause goodness knows I haven't had a good refresher on the periodic table since high school since it isn't relevant to my life. 14) I really hope to see more of the judging book by its cover series, because there are so many great book covers to choose from. Literal interpretation is a comedic form I'm also a fan of and since this comic already has a lot of that, I think it fits right in.

West Virginia Mesothelioma Lethal Substance Abuse
West Virginia Mesothelioma Lethal Substance Abuse
West Virginia mesothelioma lethal substance abuse should be taken deadly serious as it is a combination of negligent asbestos companies and lack of information to vulnerable employees. While it is no surprise that individuals face direct subjection to chemicals on a daily basis, there are certain lethal substances that the body can not handle without precautions. Many industrial facilities across the United States are notorious for being the central locations where individuals are exposed to harmful substances – including asbestos, a carcinogen that is known for causing severe, life-threatening illnesses. Exposure to deadly toxins, whether caused by skin absorption, inhalation, or swallowing, may cause various medical problems. Sicknesses subsequent from carcinogenic exposures may take years to develop, which unfortunately tends to cause long-term illnesses, injuries or death.
In many cases, another entity is responsible for exposure to such a lethal substance. As such, injuries or health complications that result from negligent exposure may be deemed the legal responsibility of said person and/or company. Pursuing legal action can be a difficult and complex process – however, a skillful mesothelioma lawyer will be able to assist throughout a claimant’s case. If you or a loved one has been exposed to lethal substance abuse in West Virginia, contact a West Virginia mesothelioma lawyer at Goldberg, Persky & White P.C. today! We strive to work alongside our clients to get them the compensation and justice they deserve.
Types of Lethal Substances
There are different types of lethal toxic substances that can affect the brain and the body in a variety of ways. As a result, regulations have been established by EPA, OSHA and other government agencies to ensure that exposure is limited or completely avoided.
Some of the various types of lethal toxins individuals may be exposed to include:
    Asbestos
    Arsenic
    Benzene
    Beryllium
    Carbon monoxide
Creosote Diacetyl (also referred to as Popcorn Lung)
    Hazardous waste
    Lead Mercury
    PCBs
    Perchlorate
    Pesticides
    Petroleum
    Radiation
    Radon
    Silicosis
    Talcum powder
    Toxic mold
    Vinyl chloride
    Welding rod fumes
Despite being recognized as hazardous, individuals may still experience exposure to any of these harmful chemicals – especially when working for negligent companies. When absorbed into the body, damage to the cells and nerves can lead to serious medical complications.
 Causes and Risk Factors
Prolonged toxic exposure to lethal substances occurs most frequently in the workplace, where individuals spend the majority of their time. Many of the dangerous chemicals that people encounter or interact with at the workplace come in a variety of forms such as dusts, gases, liquids, solids, or vapors. As a result, individuals working in industries could also unknowingly bring home toxins that put family members at risk of second-hand exposure. In addition, potential exposure to those living near contaminated sites may also occur at home.
Chemicals may enter our bodies through four possible routes:
Absorption: Hazardous substances can enter the body through contact with the skin.
Inhalation: Breathing in toxins is the most common route of entry, which is partly why so many diseases affect the lungs.
Ingestion: Consumption of contaminated foods and drinks may cause exposure through the digestive tract. Small particles in the air may also enter and be swallowed through the mouth.
Injected: In rarer cases, when a contaminated object pierces the skin, toxic exposure may occur.
In many cases, a toxic substance has the ability to cause illness in a person, especially when being mishandled unknowingly. Without adequate safety precautions or awareness of the chemicals used in a work environment an employee may be exposed to unnecessary risks.
Related Illnesses and Injuries Caused by Lethal Substance Exposure
Lethal substance exposure often results in a wide range of illnesses and injuries — some serious and some fatal. The effects of lethal substances exposure will vary depending on two primary factors; which substance exposure an individual is facing and how their body reacts to the chemical or toxin.
Various health complications that may result from exposure to lethal toxin substances include:
    Aplastic Anemia
    Asbestosis
    Asthma
    Birth Defects
    Brain Injury/Cognitive Impairment
    Bronchiolitis Obliterans
    Cancer
    Hodgkin’s Disease
    Leukemia
    Lung Disease
    Lymphoma
    Mesothelioma
    Multiple Myeloma
    Nerve Damage
    Reactive Airways Dysfunction Syndrome (RADS)
    Silicosis
How Can Exposure Liability Be Allocated?
In the unfortunate event that an individual becomes ill or that a loved one loses their life as a result of exposure to a lethal substance, the person or corporation responsible for the production or exposure of that chemical may be held liable.
In most instances, an individual’s work history is the primary way to obtain the assignment of liability for lethal substance exposure. While occupational exposure, or exposure resulting directly from the companies that hired individuals to work, is the most common way for people to come into contact with lethal carcinogens, there are other parties that could also be deemed at fault as well.
Legal responsibility may be required by:
    An Individual’s Employer
    Contractors and Other Users
    Property Owners
The Manufacturer of a Toxic Product
The Supplier of a Toxic Product
Symptoms of the deadly diseases due to lethal substance exposure typically do not develop for years. As a result, determining who may be at fault for exposures to lethal substances can be difficult – especially without the proper resources. For this reason, we urge that claimants speak with a lawyer. Contact an attorney at Goldberg, Persky & White P.C. today.
Legal Action Against Liable Corporations
Diseases that are caused by exposure to lethal substances are no naturally occurring or random illnesses. As a result, claimants are able to file personal injury lawsuits against the negligent entities that have been found as the perpetrators of their exposure. When filing a personal injury lawsuit, claimants must prove that they were negligently or deliberately exposed to a lethal substance or chemical. They also must show that the direct cause of illness or injury was from said exposure.
Even after an individual has the necessary proof to file a personal injury lawsuit, they may still have limitations in certain circumstances. The major limitation that may arise is that the company being sued may have previously filed for bankruptcy as a means of avoiding legal action. Nevertheless, those bankrupt corporations typically establish trust funds to compensate victims for the damage they have incurred as a result of any illness that has arisen as a result of their exposure.
While it’s possible to file a claim on your own, the process must be conducted extremely attentively. For this reason, it is strongly encouraged to hire an experienced attorney. Not only will thorough investigations be conducted, but the process is much less strenuous on you or a loved one.
How Can Goldberg, Persky & White P.C. Help?
There are a variety of cities throughout West Virginia like Charleston, Weirton, and many others that had major asbestos corporations operating within them. This means that thousands of people were employed and potentially exposed to asbestos while on the job. Some of the states best asbestos attorneys work at GPW and are standing by to help! West Virginia Mesothelioma Lethal Substance Abuse is no laughing matter as these corporations are directly responsible for you or your loved ones illness. They should be held accountable for their actions as well as negligence. Don’t delay, call today!

Radioactive Gems
It started out because everyone goes for Torbernite because it’s on every dangerous gemstone/mineral list and I’m here to tell you that there are many other radioactive minerals out there. Although tobernite is the reason granite is radioactive. But it’s the same with other minerals because on the list it always list like one mineral of lead (always galena), maybe two on arsenic, one on mercury (always cinnabar), one on antimony, maybe one on thallium, tobernite, and chalcanthite. While they are toxic, they are far from being the only minerals that contain dangerous metals (which covers a good percentage of metals and they fail to list of even beryllium being one) and that zircon can be radioactive, the lesson is to handle minerals carefully... always. There’s inclusions. Anyway.
Curite (5) is the coordinator. They like diligence and efficiency and will yell at you for slacking. They do care deeply for the other Gems and will be very adamant on protecting them from harm. Due to them living on the radioactive island, the Lunarians don’t frequent them as much.
Vicanite (6) is a younger Gem who enjoys causing as much chaos as possible. They can be incredibly cruel however, but desire attention above all else. They seem to be a bit affectionate in terms of cuddling up to other Gems, Curite allowing it only because it keeps Vicanite from causing trouble and within eyesight.
Trinitite (5.5) is the oldest of the radioactive Gems. To the point where no one is quite sure how old they are, including themselves. There’s instability within their body especially with it being so old that their memory sometimes suffers from it. Unlike most of the other Gems on the island, they’re incredibly concerned about poisoning thing with their radioactivity. Overall they’re just tired and want to go to sleep for a long time. (I know it’s not a mineral, but glass, but it’s a significant thing in human history in the radiation timeline)

Appreciation asset
Quick fluffy story Eugene x Reader (not beta-read, sorry for mistakes). Hope you like it!
Sitting under a tree with Eugene, trying to understand what’s wrong with that damn radio, you got distracted by Alden passing by, carrying wood planks for the new barn with Daryl. You stared at them for a moment and Eugene noticed.
— I know they are eye candy, but could you at least focus a bit more on the task at hand?
You blushed and stuttered, returning your attention on Eugene.
— Wh... what?
— I’m not mad. Even if I’m not attracted to male, I know what kind of guys women tend to be appealed by.
You chuckled and shrugged.
— Yeah right, if I was twenty-two! I’m much more into… let’s says appreciation asset.
— Appreciation asset? Explain your thought.
— Well, Daryl and Alden are hots. They aren’t dumbs, but they aren’t really smart neither. Over time, they can’t get hotter, but a smart guy can get smarter. A smart guy is an appreciation asset, a long term relation, and a hot guy is a depreciation asset, just to play for a few years or so… or look at on a hot day like today. Eye candy, but not husband material, you know?
Eugene had listened carefully to you, looking at you with a dead serious face. You could see him think about what you had said, processing everything in that big brain of his.
— So… you like smart guys? You know, my intelligence has been objectively measured. I’m smarter than most people here. I am fully a man apart, so I’m wholly confident that I’m an appreciation asset; husband material.
You giggled at how serious he seems.
— You know Eugene, you can’t just say: I’m smart. It’s like saying you’re nice or you’re good at cooking. I get to judge if you are smart enough to be an “appreciation asset”, not you.
— How? I think I already proved my brainpower, with all the work I’ve been doing here.
— I did it with you, remember?
You kind of felt bad when he looks back at you with that sad expression in his eyes. You take a last glance at Alden and Daryl while they were removing their shirts, sweating and showing off their muscles to all the ladies staring at them, then returns your attention on Eugene. He also noticed all the girls gawking at the guys and suddenly felt bad. Not only he doesn’t look like his comrade, but you are denying him one of the most valuable things he has to get a girl: his intelligence. Ok, he doesn’t look bad either and he has a lot of other qualities, but being smart is clearly his strongest point.
— You know what really turn me on?
Eugene bashfully looked up at you, curious and confused.
— Daryl and Alden removing their shirts on a hot, humid day?
You chuckled and pushed him playfully on his shoulder.
— No! It’s fun to look at, but that’s about it. No, what really turn me on is when a guy tell me something incredibly smart, like for example recite me the periodic table…
— That’s easy…
You smiled:
— With the atomic mass.
There’s a pause before he replied:
— Hydrogen 1.0079 Helium 4,0026 Lithium 6,941 Beryllium 9,0122 Boron 10,811
Your smile vanished and you started feeling hot. Is he really reciting the periodic table with the atomic mass of each element?
— Carbon 12,0107 Nitrogen 14,0067 Oxygen 15,9994 Fluori…
You cuts him off with a kiss and he happily kiss back. Nothing turns you on like smart guys and Eugene is clearly smarter than anyone else in the community.

"the current annual production of uranium in the country is not enough to meet the annual fuel requirement of all the operational uranium based nuclear power plants."
""However, we are continuously exploring the possibility of alternate fuel based on thorium in this regard for which we have enough reserves. Further, the Department is importing uranium from different countries like Canada, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia also," Singh said." Singh refers to Jitendra Singh, MoS, Space, Nuclear, Science etc. in PMO.
