The addition of caffeine (100–130 mg) to commonly prescribed pain relievers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen modestly improves the proportion of people who achieve pain relief.
A systematic review and meta-analysis from 2014 found that concurrent caffeine and l-theanine use has synergistic psychoactive effects that promote alertness, attention, and task switching; these effects are most pronounced during the first hour post-dose
Moderate doses of caffeine (around 5 mg/kg) can improve sprint performance, cycling and running time trial performance, endurance (i.e., it delays the onset of muscle fatigue and central fatigue) and cycling power output. Caffeine increases basal metabolic rate in adults. Caffeine ingestion prior to aerobic exercise increases fat oxidation, particularly in persons with low physical fitness.
Tumblr media
Caffeine improves muscular strength and power, and may enhance muscular endurance. Caffeine also enhances performance on anaerobic tests. Caffeine consumption before constant load exercise is associated with reduced perceived exertion. While this effect is not present during exercise-to-exhaustion exercise, performance is significantly enhanced. This is congruent with caffeine reducing perceived exertion, because exercise-to-exhaustion should end at the same point of fatigue. Caffeine also improves power output and reduces time to completion in aerobic time trials, an effect positively (but not exclusively) associated with longer duration exercise
Tumblr media
Chocolate derived from cocoa beans contains a small amount of caffeine. The weak stimulant effect of chocolate may be due to a combination of theobromine and theophylline, as well as caffeine. A typical 28-gram serving of a milk chocolate bar has about as much caffeine as a cup of decaffeinated coffee. By weight, dark chocolate has one to two times the amount of caffeine as coffee: 80–160 mg per 100 g. Higher percentages of cocoa such as 90% amount to 200 mg per 100 g approximately and thus, a 100-gram 85% cocoa chocolate bar contains about 195 mg caffeine.
Tumblr media
Regular consumption of caffeine may protect people from liver cirrhosis. It was also found to slow the progression of liver disease in people who already have the condition, reduce the risk of liver fibrosis, and offer a protective effect against liver cancer among moderate coffee drinkers. A study conducted in 2017 found that the effects of caffeine from coffee consumption on the liver were observed regardless of how the drink was prepared
Tumblr media
In moderate doses, caffeine has been associated with reduced symptoms of depression and lower suicide risk. Two reviews indicate that increased consumption of coffee and caffeine may reduce the risk of depression

Can I whine for more Fisher King??
She’s back to work and they look at her in hushed voices somehow; look at her like she’s on the slab.
“I’m fine,” she says over the drone of a Stryker and the crisp pop of a skull key. Over breadknifed livers and the fibrous wrap of pericardium.
Simone Richards catches her smoking in the parking bay. “Dana!” she admonishes.
Dana passes her the cigarette and Simone takes a long, appraising drag.
***
Mulder makes love to her the way Yo-Yo Ma plays a cello; a passionate blend of favorite standards and eclectic novelties. A virtuoso performance to an appreciative audience of one. He does not think she is damaged.
“Mulder,” she mumbles against his manubrium. Into the warm rebar of his clavicle. She bites at it with her white little teeth, her breasts pressed to him like grapes being crushed for wine.
Later, when he’s asleep on his sueded belly and the cats are curled around his head, she gazes at his spine. We are so vulnerable, she thinks, touching his jugular. His carotid. Forget exoskeletons - we have no fur or feathers or claws or venom. Our bite is relatively weak. Our newborns are pathetic.
Only a poorly understood but generally-accepted-as superior brain. Only an ability to cook food, to outlast our prey. Even ravens make tools.
She falls asleep without meaning to. She dreams of white and white and white, of blurry-faced women, of Duane Barry crowing triumphant to the indifferent stars.
***
They have bagels in a crowded little spot where the walls are bare and the ambiance is terrible. The bagels are teetering on a Michelin star.
“I think we should break up,” he says, wisdom-tooth-deep into chive cream cheese. “Dana, it doesn’t end here. Not with what I do.”
She opens her eyes wide, appalled. “Oh, Fox! Solving crimes! Is…is it dangerous?” She throws a caper at him, rolling her eyes.
He scowls. “I’m serious. What happened with Tooms, with Barry. I don’t want this for you.”
“I don’t want it for me either, come to that,” she remarks. “But I’m willing to risk it.”
He furrows his brows. “Why?”
Idiot, she thinks. Fucking idiot. She would like to talk to the various people who did such a number on him that a man this good looking and intelligent is somehow this insecure. Just talk at first, anyway.
“Because your parents are rich and I have med school loans still,” she says at last. “So my plan is to marry you, kill you, and live in luxury for the rest of my days.”
He looks at her for a long time.
She sips her coffee. She eats an olive from his plate.
“Oh,” he says finally. “That’s all right, then.”

youve probably had this ask before, but do you have any tips or resources on drawing gore without having to look at the actual thing as reference? im good with horror movies and all, but the idea of real shit makes me wanna throw uuup
yes yes and yes absolutely. there’s zero reason to look at the real deal, & frankly im thankful every day genZ has rejected it as hard as they have, cus i know i went on & on about it in ROTTEN but a lot of us millennials on the internet really suffered when gore was commonplace.
THE BIODIGITAL HUMAN: biodigital.com is a phenomenal free 3D medical-grade anatomy resource that will teach you what every solitary fiber of the body is called + where it goes! gore & horror art can be done any way you please, but if you’re looking to make more realism-based work, referencing anatomy & knowing your stuff is key. think of it like drawing a salad having never eaten a salad vs. drawing a salad where you know all the ingredients
GROCERY STORES: next time you’re shopping for groceries, it helps to pay special attention to the meat section! we’re all made of meat after all, so anatomy will teach you where everything goes, and grocery meat will teach you the behaviors of tissue - for instance muscles are soft and fibrous, the fat cell layer is here and behaves as such, skin is around this thick & so on. you won’t find particularly fatty cuts at the grocery store admittedly, so you’ll be missing the key fat cell layer, but that’s where anatomical ref comes in. adding the fat cell layer (yellows and oranges) steps up your work tremendously towards realism! also for any offal on sale (liver tripe etc) this is a great chance to look at organs & take note of their texture & how you would draw such an object
SHOWERS & MIRRORS: the best body ref you’ll ever have is your own self! really poke around and see where your bony landmarks are, where fat sits, & how skin bunches, stretches, & molds. the best thing ever to do too is to set your phone to a timer & then contort into a hideous pose on your floor & then try to draw it lol. self observation like this will help you figure out where the weight of the body moves towards, even if you don’t have much weight on you it’ll still move and behave with certain properties that are super helpful to study
ANY TIME YOU GET HURT BY ACCIDENT: next time you skin your knee or god forbid require sutures is also a fine opportunity for learning! blood is also a tissue & behaves with certain properties - its viscosity, how opaque it is, clotting factors, & so on. blood won’t always be a totally red Mass, it’s got texture & shade to it as well as different hues. don’t forget your browns! color is a big one too - a little orange in the yellow for the fat cell layer, a little purple in the red for muscle fibers, & so on
SURGERY FOOTAGE: the ONE actual life reference i can recommend, and this is only if you know yourself to be of a fair constitution, is youtube footage of surgical procedures such as knee replacements, ectopic pregnancies, top surgery, gastric bypass, small bowel obstruction, etc. clean sterile environments, significant education, & MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: the knowledge that the patient walked away happy, healthy, & with a new lease on life. this will teach you countless things about anatomy, body structure, tissue behavior & color, you name it!
the most important thing to remember with the body is that anatomy will show you Where it is, meat will show you How it is, but remember that organs & tissues behave different than the models show, as they’re all in one place just for ease of visibility and education. the body is soft & it’s got all sorts of soft stuff in it that wiggles around & shines & makes weird farting noises LOL. think of the body like a cake, & horror art like a cake you dropped on the ground where every layer of it is going to behave differently!

The Ancient Egyptians were considered by the west to be the healthiest, most vibrant and hygienic cultures they had encountered. Hypocrites - who is known as the Father of Modern Medicine - spent many years in Egypt learning their principles of health, it was in Egypt he also learnt to fast. His findings would then become the cornerstone of what he would later share with the rest of the world and a lot of which we still know now. Much of the wisdom from this brilliant ancient culture has been forgotten. Our documentary will include a very special individual who will share wisdom that was taught during that time.
The Ancient Egyptians were big proponents of fasting and cleaning the digestive system which they referred to as the river of life or the river of death. We believe that almost all discomfort and disease begins in the digestive system. If we keep our river clean, our body’s many systems can work efficiently and pre-vent (detox before sickness occurs) disease. Its when we start to eat toxic and lifeless foods/drinks that our digestive system becomes backed up and this toxic load puts pressure on our liver, kidneys and blood. Our digestive system relies on foods that are electric and alive. Peristaltic movement (the movement of our digestive tract) improves when we eat these foods, when we breath deeply and when we move our body.
So how do you purify your river?
By eating fibrous foods in their raw, fresh and seasonal form
Colon cleansing
Enemas
Move your body
Breath deeply
And of course fasting 🤐

July 18th 1792 saw the death of John Paul Jones in Paris.
I covered the life of "The Father of the US Navy" in my post on his birth date a little over a fortnight ago so wont cover old ground, instead will go through his final days and his death, which many deemed to be mysterious, in Paris France.
As far as we know, John Paul Jones was in good health until 1770, when a severe fever sent him to bed for 16 days and left him ‘much reduced’. Nothing more is known of the character of this illness or its treatment. He was 23, serving in the West Indies and recovered. Except for two other unnamed illnesses and recurrent psychological highs and lows bordering on manic-depressive disorder, he seems to have been well for the next seven years.
In 1780, after many months at sea, he complained his eyes were so sore that he was almost blind, and for a time was so incapacitated that he gave up visiting friends on shore. His behaviour then was ‘Qweeg-like, suspicious and slightly dotty’, and though only 33, he felt like an old man. Three years later, during further service in the West Indies, a severe attack of ‘tropical fever’ caused him to travel to a Moravian sanatorium in Bethlehem, Palestine, for hydrotherapy, after which he recovered.
At the age of 41, Jones became ill during an overland trip in an open carriage from Hamburg to Copenhagen. From Copenhagen, he travelled to St. Petersburg through ice floes in a small open boat to take command of a Russian fleet, arriving exhausted, sick and depressed. The illness lingered on for months. Although its specific characteristics are unknown, it is believed to have involved the lungs; afterwards, he had a persistent hacking cough and ‘Grey visage
Shortly before his 45th birthday, Jones’ health declined rapidly. The nature of his final illness is described vividly in a letter written by a close friend, Col. Samuel Blackden, to Jones’ sister shortly after the naval hero’s death. In it, Blackden says of Jones:
" But for two months past he began to lose his appetite, grew yellow, and showed symptoms of jaundice. For this he took medical treatment and for a short time seemed to grow better. A few days before his death his legs began to swell, which proceeded upward to his body, so that for two days before his decease he could not button his waistcoat and had great difficulty in breathing ... [He] put off the making of his will until the afternoon of July 18, when he was prevailed upon to send for a notary and made his will. M. Beaupoil and myself witnessed it and left him sitting in a chair in his parlor. A few minutes after we retired he walked into his chamber and laid himself upon his face on the bedside, with his feet on the floor. The Queen’s physician, who was attending him, came soon after, and on entering the apartment found him in that position, and on trying to lift him up found that he had expired. His disorder had terminated in dropsy of the heart. His body was put into a leaden coffin [and submerged in alcohol] on the 20th, that, in case the United States, which he had so essentially served and with so much honor, should claim his remains they might be more easily removed "
One hundred and thirteen years later (in 1905), the remains of John Paul Jones were recovered and autopsied. According to L. Capitan and Victor Cornil, who performed the autopsy:
"The only organs which were injured were the kidneys As far as can be judged, by examination of the badly preserved viscera(which included the heart, aorta, liver, gallbladder and spleen but not the brain), we believe that the case in point is interstitial nephritis, with fibrous degeneracy of the glomeruli of Malpighi, which quite agrees with the symptoms observed during life. "
The autopsy goes on in some detail, I wont bore you with it but at the end of the day, the kidney failure/disease killed him, but there is no explanation of how it came about.
Jone's liver was normal, he wasn't the cliched stereotypical Scot, he abstained from spirits, his tipple was wine and it is said he drunk no more than three glasses,so alcohol was ruled out, as was lead poisoning, which would have come from the wine of the era. Cardiac arrhythmia or some other complication of uremia has been the conclusions. The first is a group of conditions that cause the heart to beat irregular, too slowly, or too quickly, the second occurs when your kidneys become damaged. The toxins, or bodily waste, that your kidneys normally send out in your urine end up in your bloodstream instead.
With regard to the question of the true ‘father’ of the United States Navy, no one person emerged as singularly worthy of the title in the aftermath of the American Revolution. Following the war, Jones left America embittered by a lack of recognition and served briefly as an officer in Catherine the Great’s imperial fleet before fleeing Russia over an apparently trumped up rape charge. Hopeful of securing another naval commission, he travelled to Paris where he died in 1792, lonely and forgotten. Because the American minister, Gouverneur Morris, refused to claim his body, a French official paid to have the corpse packed in straw and alcohol and sealed in a lead coffin for possible future transport to the United States.
If it wasn't for the foresight of this unknown French official the fate of John Paul Jones would have been unknown.

A misstep would send him hurtling into fibrous muscle, or scraping against bone, or something equally unpleasant. Lungs, perhaps, or the windpipe; he was no master of biology, and scarcely knew his way around the crude innards of the body the way Kitty—dear, sweet, gore-obsessed Kitty—did. There hadn’t been the knowledge, not in his lifetime; he had only absently followed the ensuing medical developments, and in all likelihood understood far less than any of the modern ghosts, even someone like Julian, who probably didn’t give a flying fuck that he knew what the liver was.

if you were to eat a human body what dyou think the best part would be
i feel inclined to answer "the heart!" but i feel as if the human heart would be a sensory nightmare in my mouth. so fibrous and veiny... a few parts are harder than the rest, reminiscent of cartilage. i could not eat a human heart. nor a cows heart, for that matter! ive... handled a few hearts in my lifetime. hearts are not meant to be eaten, and i shudder to think about it.
same goes for the lungs, although they are more similar to actual meat im texture... but the veins... i just gagged...
i could not eat intestines of any kind, either. horrific thought.
and you of all people would understand why im just fine not eating the brain, even despite possible prion disease. i cant get that ammonia smell out of my head.
hm... i would be most willing to eat the skin, upper arms, thighs, the lower loin area... perhaps even ribs. i feel like those would feel the best and taste the best. may even cook the best if that is an option.
the best part overall would have to be the upper arms. requires the least amount of preparation, in my opinion, which raises it above everything else.
im sure there are some other organs i might be willing to try, like the liver, but that does not change that i would enjoy the upper arm the most.

Q. What is liver cirrhosis?
.
.
.
.
.
A. "Cirrhosis" means scarring, but usually it is understood to refer to liver damage due to any number of underlying chronic conditions. Normal vascular hepatic tissue is replaced by fibrous bands that stimulate hepatocyte regeneration (nodules and hepatomegaly) that, however, eventually outstrip their blood source and lead to withering and hardening of its spongy texture. If cirrhosis is diagnosed early enough and the cause treated, then cirrhosis can be reversible. 4.5 million Americans live with chronic liver disease and/or cirrhosis.

There are more than 100 types of cancers. Here are some cancer names which are formed in specific cells.
▪️Carcinoma: Most common type of cancer. They are formed by epithelial cells, which are the cells that cover the inside and outside surfaces of the body. Example: Bladder, kidney, breast, prostate, colon, lungs, stomach, intestine, kidney cancers are associated.
▪️Sarcoma: Sarcomas are cancers that form in bone and soft tissues, including muscle, fat, blood vessels, lymph vessels, and fibrous tissue (such as tendons and ligaments).
▪️Leukemia: Cancers that begin in the blood-forming tissue of the bone marrow are called leukemias. These cancers do not form solid tumors. Instead, large numbers of abnormal white blood cells (leukemia cells and leukemic blast cells) build up in the blood and bone marrow, crowding out normal blood cells.
▪️Lymphoma: Lymphoma is cancer that begins in lymphocytes (T cells or B cells). These are disease-fighting white blood cells that are part of the immune system. In lymphoma, abnormal lymphocytes build up in lymph nodes and lymph vessels, as well as in other organs of the body.
▪️Multiple Myeloma: Multiple myeloma is cancer that begins in plasma cells, another type of immune cell. The abnormal plasma cells, called myeloma cells, build up in the bone marrow and form tumors in bones all through the body.
▪️Melanoma: Melanoma is cancer that begins in cells that become melanocytes, which are specialized cells that make melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color). Most melanomas form on the skin, but melanomas can also form in other pigmented tissues.

▪️Germ Cells Tumors: Germ cell tumors are a type of tumor that begins in the cells that give rise to sperm or eggs. These tumors can occur almost anywhere in the body.
▪️Neuroendocrine Tumors: Neuroendocrine tumors form from cells that release hormones into the blood in response to a signal from the nervous system. These tumors, which may make higher-than-normal amounts of hormones, can cause many different symptoms. Example, islet cell tumors, medullary thyroid cancer, pheochromocytomas, neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin (Merkel cell cancer), small cell lung cancer etc.
▪️Carcinoid Tumors: Carcinoid tumors are a type of neuroendocrine tumor. They are slow-growing tumors that are usually found in the gastrointestinal system (most often in the rectum and small intestine). Carcinoid tumors may spread to the liver or other sites in the body, and they may secrete substances such as serotonin or prostaglandins, causing carcinoid syndrome.

Fibrosis in the succubus community is becoming a widespread concern, leading to a rise in popularity for pouches as a form of treatment. Pouches are small, wearable bags that are filled with herbs or healing substances, and are carried on the body. While they have been used by humans for centuries, they are now gaining recognition in the succubus community as a way to combat the effects of fibrosis.
Fibrosis is a condition where excess fibrous connective tissue is formed in an organ or tissue. It can occur in any part of the body, but is most commonly seen in the lungs, liver, and heart. In succubi, fibrosis can lead to a decrease in mobility and agility, as well as weakening of the wings and other appendages. This can greatly affect their ability to hunt and survive in their natural habitat.
Pouches are believed to be effective in treating fibrosis due to their herbal contents. Many succubi believe that the herbs contained in the pouches have healing and rejuvenating properties that can reverse the effects of fibrosis. Some herbs commonly used in these pouches include comfrey, ginger, and wild garlic, which are known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Apart from their healing properties, pouches are also convenient for succubi to use. Unlike traditional medicine, which may require a specific dosage or schedule, pouches can be easily carried and used whenever needed. This makes them a popular choice for succubi who have busy lifestyles or are always on the move.
Moreover, pouches have also gained popularity because they are non-invasive and have no known side effects. Unlike surgical treatments or medications that can have undesirable effects, pouches offer a natural and safe alternative. This is especially important for succubi, who are known for their sensitivity to certain medicines and treatments.
As awareness about fibrosis and its effects on succubi increases, so does the demand for pouches. Many succubi have reported positive results after using these pouches, leading to more and more succubi turning to this form of treatment. With the rise in demand, many succubi have also started creating their own pouches, using a mix of traditional and modern methods to create the perfect blend of herbs for specific conditions.
In conclusion, pouches are gaining popularity as a way to combat fibrosis in succubi due to their natural, safe, and convenient properties. They offer a non-invasive alternative to traditional medicine, and many succubi swear by their effectiveness. As more succubi embrace this form of treatment, it is clear that pouches are here to stay as a front-line treatment for fibrosis in the succubus community.

July 18th 1782 saw the death of John Paul Jones in Paris.
I covered the life of “The Father of the US Navy”  in my post on his birth date a little over a fortnight ago so wont cover old ground, instead will go through his final days and his death, which many deemed to be mysterious, in Paris France.
Although its specific characteristics are unknown, it is believed to have involved the lungs; afterwards, he had a persistent hacking cough and ‘Grey visage Shortly before his 45th birthday, Jones’ health declined rapidly. The nature of his final illness is described vividly in a letter written by a close friend, Col. Samuel Blackden, to Jones’ sister shortly after the naval hero’s death. In it, Blackden says of Jones:
“ But for two months past he began to lose his appetite, grew yellow, and showed symptoms of jaundice. For this he took medical treatment and for a short time seemed to grow better. A few days before his death his legs began to swell, which proceeded upward to his body, so that for two days before his decease he could not button his waistcoat and had great difficulty in breathing … [He] put off the making of his will until the afternoon of July 18, when he was prevailed upon to send for a notary and made his will. His body was put into a leaden coffin [and submerged in alcohol] on the 20th, that, in case the United States, which he had so essentially served and with so much honor, should claim his remains they might be more easily removed ”
One hundred and thirteen years later (in 1905), the remains of John Paul Jones were recovered and autopsied. According to L. Capitan and Victor Cornil, who performed the autopsy:
“The only organs which were injured were the kidneys As far as can be judged, by examination of the badly preserved viscera(which included the heart, aorta, liver, gallbladder and spleen but not the brain), we believe that the case in point is interstitial nephritis, with fibrous degeneracy of the glomeruli of Malpighi, which quite agrees with the symptoms observed during life. ”
The autopsy goes on in some detail, I wont bore you with it but at the end of the day, the kidney failure/disease killed him, but there is no explanation of how it came about.
Jone’s liver was normal, he wasn’t the cliched stereotypical Scot, he abstained from spirits, his tipple was wine and it is said he drunk no more than three glasses,so alcohol was ruled out, as was lead poisoning, which would have come from the wine of the era.
If it wasn’t for the foresight of this unknown French official the fate of John Paul Jones would have been unknown.
Again not wanting to repeat my last post, the pic is a white marble bust of John Paul Jones by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon dated 1781 and generally regarded as the most accurate likeness
