I am looking for recommendations for novels centered around King Arthur and/or his knights/other characters from the legends. In the past, I have enjoyed Jane Yolen’s Sword of the Rightful King, Lisa Ann Sandell’s Song of the Sparrow, and Gerald Morris’s The Squire’s Tale series.
It’s fine if Arthur himself is not the center of the book - but it is important to me that Arthur is actually a good king worth rooting for. I’ve stumbled across a couple of adaptations recently whose big twist is that Arthur is the bad guy and have not enjoyed them.
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be deeply appreciated!

Book rec -- Song of the Sparrow, by Lisa Ann Sandell. It's YA, and I quite literally have not read it for at least a decade. But I remember loving it when I did, and it is based off of Arthurian legend! It might be a quick read (it's in lyrical form, not prose), but sometimes those are good too :))
hmmmm i tend to be a prose only kinda girl, but i like a good arthurian retelling! i’ll give it a look see, add it to the tbr 🤩🤩 thank u thank u

Fave books
@authorsworkshop my favorite books are (in no particular order):
1. Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo by Obert Skye
- it’s got a bit of magic, a group of friends, an interesting mentorship relationship and no real romance (just the power of friendship vibe which I love), plus it’s a series. And even tho it’s geared towards the YA/child lit audience, I can honestly say the sequels were just as hard to put down as the first
2. Fablehaven by Brandon Mull
- ya/child lit audience but still very very good, Magic, mythical creatures, family (protags r 2 siblings a boy and a girl), adventure, a plot twist here and there, surprisingly good action scenes considering the intended audience, series, again no romance just familial love :)
3. The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima
- ya audience, romance (with a little bit of forbidden thrown in for flavor), action, WIZARDS, warriors, a dash of politics for spice, features a QUEENdom not a kingdom which is v refreshing, also has good friendships, SERIES, 3rd person pov
4. Song of the Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell
- written kind of like poetry? Makes it interesting; King Arthur era with a twist it’s great, a lil bit of romance but easily overlooked until the end, one of the only 1st person POV I’ve been able to read more than once (at least 4 as a matter of fact), feminist friendly...protagonist is a verifiable badass, action, adventure— it’s all very addicting. Only one book.

There is a look in his eye, a heavy look that makes him seem older, as though in one night he has lived one hundred lifetimes. And it makes him appear even more handsome.

Autumn has come, crowning the fields and woods with red golden leaves, and the wind carries with it a sharpness, the crisp hint of apple cider and wood-burning stoves. There is a buzzing, a tingling of anticipation in the air.

They say don’t judge a book by its cover but sometimes they’re as beautiful inside as they are outside. A gorgeous book written in lyrical form about the Lady of Shalott from Arthurian legend.
