A rather strong young man of sixteen, Tony Detweiler’s “go-get-’em” attitude leads him toward both lots of fun and lots of trouble. As the right-side hitter for the Citiesville Knights he takes his blocks and passes seriously. When he’s not at home or working at Nasty Burger, he’s mostly found on the court or at the gym. He and his parents moved out to Citiesville for better opportunities, and although he wishes he was closer to Townsville he’s glad to have found some friends on the volleyball team.

Living in the Jaggy Mountains, one of the last few Goliaths alive made her acquaintance with none other than Jagur Jaggy. Considered a runt by her culture, Morgana’s nine-and-a-half foot tall stature towers over the Jaggy citizens. After meeting the Jaggy Prince she became quick friends with him, though shades of scarlet will tell you about her other feelings for the prince. Despite living on her own for most of her life, Morgana believes that her long lost brother may still be out in the world surviving on his own. With a few secrets of her own, the shy girl only lets out so much about her past to Jagur...

Another commission from the amazing @harchibudytgorichi! Meet Jagur’s (future) girlfriend! Me and @kururu418 tossed around a few ideas and ultimately I ended up coming up with a lot of backstory for Morgana that’s gonna trickle out over the course of the fics I write about her and Jagur. The previous monarch of Lunaria, Kalista Heart held the title of Queen of Hearts for two-hundred and fifty years before stepping down from the throne and giving it to her son. Known for her strict law and order, Kalista was popular among the old noble families in Lunaria for favoring them when writing the laws of the land. Many of these families want her put back into power now that her son has undone these laws but she continues to deny them. Despite no longer ruling over Lunaria, Kalista still lives inside the Heart family castle and will, on occasion, grant her son advice on how to rule the kingdom.

Of all the members of the Norse Pantheon, none are as cunning and devious as Loki. A magic using god, Loki’s most notorious crime among the Aesir and Vanir was the slaying of Baldr, the punishment of which was the chaining and separation of his children Fenrir and Jormungandr from him. A shapeshifter by nature, Loki often switches between a man’s figure and a woman’s figure (typically going by the name “Heedsi” when presenting as female). Despite his more loner personality, Loki has had his eyes set on a certain someone for some time now (though he doesn’t act on his feelings often). He secretly despises the new Apollo, not believing he’s the incarnation of the Baldr he killed over a millennia ago...

The odd duckling of her family, Princess Ofelia Naga is the youngest and third child of Queen Nixitia Naga and King Colton Kahn of the Queendom of Wraiven. Like both of her older sisters, the Crown Princess Thesephia and Princess Ankahlia, Ofelia has a special interest of her own. While Thesephia concerns herself with law and her books, and Ankahlia loves her taxidermy, Ofelia gives her attention to her garden and alchemy. Although they keep their relationship a secret, it’s not unknown to her family that Ofelia and the King of Hearts are romantically entangled with one another.

6. Which complete fic do you wish had gotten more attention?

I am grateful for any and all kind interaction with my fics. One thing I did eye was the difference between Callisto and Where There Be Dragons. Callisto is an experiment on my part and has received some amazing support from Thunderfam. However, I feel my writing hasn’t been as inspired (or crazy) or posted fast enough to garner and keep attention. The Steampunk AU grabbed much more attention, had zero planning, was written fast and on the fly and grabbed almost the same amount of attention. The Promotions Coordinator in me is curious about these things :D

7. Have you written any crossovers?

Only one. I wanted to put Virgil behind the wheel of Kitt from Knight Rider. Eos and Kitt were having very interesting interactions as well :D I really Need Saving

8. What is the craziest fic you’ve written?

Um…there have been a few. From Tracy brothers dancing to Tom Jones, the time a drunk Scott and Virgil tried to save a cat from a tree, hospitalising Virgil because of Grandma’s chilli, and the time I jammed Thunderbird One in the pool, but my favourite has to be Prank War. It was so much fun. I’ve linked all the nutty fics together in a series on Ao3.

9. What’s the fic you’ve written with the saddest ending?

The saddest endings are all my WiPs! I don’t tend to do much in the way of sad endings. Sad fics, yes, endings, not so much. Having said that, I’m blaming @godsliltippy for Leaf on the Wind.

10. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I don’t have a clue, but I am partial to the end of Dirt. I got to flex Tracy money muscle…a lot :D

11. What is your smuttiest fic?

I experimented in this arena during my Virgil/Kayo writing spree with varying success. There is about five I think in total, including the novel length Gentle Rain (which can be read without it, wasn’t planned and just happened), but I think the most successful was To Hurt Us (aka Veggie’s Shower Fic).

12. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Very, very rarely. I did receive one review once that complained about how many unfinished fics I had – that more were unfinished than finished. This triggered me a bit as this is an ongoing problem of mine and I struggle to focus long enough to complete works. Having said that I have completed several, for me, long fics, my longest being 68,000 words. Also, as a result of that and my distressed post about it (yeah, triggered, what can I say?) I received some amazing support both on and off Tumblr. Thunderfam rocks!

13. What is the nicest comment you’ve received?

I am seriously spoilt by Thunderfam on a regular basis, there have been many comments that have lifted my spirits, inspired me and just made my day so much better. Again, Thunderfam rock!

14. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I’m jaded, so I wouldn’t be surprised. But one thing I actually like is when some random thing I threw into a fic pops up in fanon :D

15. How many fics do you have marked as incomplete?

I’m not counting. I refuse :P

16. Which of the WIPS will most likely be finished first?

Not looking. I can’t hear you. Lalalalalalala!

17. Which WIP are you looking forward to finishing?

All of them. Yes, I am deluded. But to start is fun, to finish is ecstasy.

18. Is there a WIP that you’re considering abandoning?

Several. I don’t have as much time as I would like. My muse is fickle and I have to learn to let go, or face muse crippling stress.

19. Which complete fic would you consider rewriting?

None. I don’t rewrite. Don’t have the patience or motivation.

20. Which complete fic is your favourite?

We’ll Be Home For Christmas for multiple reasons, but I also love V.T. Green (and want to write sequels for both)

How the hell did he survive until now?

His five-year streak of being lazy and acting shy had finally been diminished all in a single afternoon, thanks to Athy encountering the man who sired them and getting a near panic attack. Of course, it wasn’t her fault that she freaked out over meeting her future killer — hell, he wasn’t all too thrilled about it either, so imagine how much worse it must be for her!

So no, he doesn’t blame her.

Does he blame himself for immediately darting off to her side at the heart-gripping fear that crawled just to let him know that something was happening to his sister? No, because he would feel like an asshole and would probably stew over it in guilt for the next few days. Does he blame her for feeling as if she were on the guillotine for encountering her would-be future murderer? No, because Claude would literally be what ends her second life if the novel were to be followed.

What he does blame himself for, however, is the fact that he ran into the situation as if his impulse control decided to pull some kind of vanishing act at the last minute. His emotions completely controlled his movements — then again, it was a fight or flight impulse caused by fear, and he chose to fight.

Sure, he knew that there were plenty of scary things that would happen for a member of the royal family, but still.

In the memories he still had of his previous life, he didn’t seem to have too much fear when it came down to confrontations. Rather, he was blunt (as always), straightforward (like usual), and was pretty decent at feigning ignorance whenever necessary (which he’ll just have to find out if that fact remained to be true). He was pretty sure that the same applied to his current life as well despite some minor changes — perhaps it’s because he’s now technically a 26-year-old (mentally) and in the body of a five-year-old?

That certainly explained the random times when he would play the cute card and ask the maids for chocolates like Athy regularly did. Not to mention his short attention span… although he rightly assumed that it was just the ADHD and him getting spoiled by the luxuries that he was becoming greedy for.

And yet here they were. Being stared at — was it just his imagination, or was the Emperor staring at his sister?

Well, he did throw his napping buddy (officially named Garfield Mittens, usually referred to as Mr Mittens out loud) at the two men, so he’s not too surprised if they don’t want anything to do with him. Truthfully, Athanase should be feeling pretty blessed right now just because he hasn’t gained much attention from that alone, even after getting immediately stared at by Claude with what he deemed to be a murderous glare.

But instead, the Emperor seemed to click his tongue in irritation, made a rude comment about how he was as brazen as their “wench of a mother”, and he ordered the knight to take him along as he picked up his stuffed animal!

Rude.

Still, it sucks that he’s never going to get Garfield back. That huge plush was going to get used as a hostage, probably, and his kid brain can only hyperfocus for so long. He just knows that he’ll get distracted, forget about it, and then remember by bedtime. What a shame, too — it was his favourite stuffed animal made of fancy soft material, and he’s not sure if he had any other that was practically as big as him.

Suffice to say, he was surprised to have survived for this long.

‘Maybe if we’re lucky, this is all just a bad dream, and I’ll wake up in the comfort of my bed,’ Athanase briefly thought as he held Athy’s hand. He could hear her stream of panicked thoughts, distracting him from the terror of the situation.

Instead, he found himself glancing up to stare at Claude, only to jolt and immediately look away every minute or so whenever they happened to make eye contact. It was clear from the amused look on the knight’s face that Athanase was being obvious with his interest towards Claude.

‘I can’t help it, sir, you look too goddamn young to be a single dad,’ he absent-mindedly thought. ‘Actually, wait, how come we’re your only biological kids when you were floozying around with other ladies before our mom? Seriously! Athy and I were definitely not planned for, so what about the other women?’

Glancing over to Athy, he could tell that she was still frozen from fear.

He elected to ignore that for now, even when her fear was beginning to feel a bit contagious.

Athanase’s eyes then trailed down to the table, staring down at the cakes. There were only two sets of utensils in front of him and Athy, with two cups of tea and a variety of sweets. He stared at it, immediately looking at the brightly coloured cakes.

Eventually, he looked back up at Claude, “Is this for Athy and Athan?” he asked, blinking his eyes wide and curious. “Is it pretty mister and red mister saying sorry for trying to take Athy away?”

His eyes shifted from Claude, who stared at him disinterestedly, to Felix, who jolted at the question as if he were a deer in headlights.

Admittedly, he felt vicious amusement at that.

“Is it okay for Athan to eat?” At that, he could feel his sister’s thoughts jolt over to him in panicked worry.

“Go ahead,” Claude simply stated, overly uncaring as he made some kind of comment about them that he, frankly, couldn’t be too bothered to care about.

He had cake to eat.

“Thank you for the cake, mister!” With wide eyes and a happy smile, Athanase picked up his fork and cheerfully took a bite of a strawberry shortcake. He hummed, cheerful and content with the taste and texture of the cake.

‘Athan, what the hell do you think you’re doing?!’ Athy blinked at him with wide eyes.

“It’s really yummy, Athy!” he cheerfully chirped, turning to look at the anxiety-ridden girl. ‘My nap was interrupted,’ he thought, proceeding to eat his cake without an ounce of regret. ‘So, I’m going to eat lots of sweets until I feel like I’m going to burst from a sugar high. I’m sure Lily won’t scold me for over-indulging, since it’s our first hang out session with the deadbeat dad.’

‘He could literally have us killed!’

Upon hearing that statement, he paused to look back at Athanasia with a considering look. Then, he glanced over to Claude, tilting his head for a moment as Claude raised an unamused brow, before looking back at his sister.

‘I’ll take my chances for the sake of cake.’

‘Athan.’

‘Athy. Look, you have your chocolates. I have my cakes that I wholeheartedly adore.’

‘That’s not what I meant, and you know it.’

‘I just think you’re just over thinking things. Maybe it’s because you two share similarities appearance-wise that I’m not too concerned? When you’re bored and blanking out, you definitely look really similar to him. Sure, he’s a psycho murderer, but Jennette isn’t in the picture yet, too. Until she shows up, we don’t have to worry about him killing us, y’know? Besides, look at him!’

‘I am looking at him, Athan, and he’s contemplating whether or not to murder us!’ Athy had cried. ‘Okay, fine, you look a lot like him even with your hair growing out, straight blonde hair and all! — but he looks infinitely more horrifying and murderous and that’s just outright unsettling! He’s staring at us, trying to decide whether or not we’re worth it to keep alive!’

He stabbed his fork into a strawberry on his cake and proceeded to straight up feed Athanasia.

‘What the hell, man?!’

“Yummy, right?” he asked, as he then flatly thought, ‘Dude, chew that and calm the fuck down.’

“Mhmm!” she nodded, smiling back despite screeching colourful curses at him through their telepathy.

He beamed at her response. ‘Claude doesn’t even seem remotely interested in us. In fact, he keeps making comments about our mom, and he keeps staring at you more than me. Maybe he’s just trying to see if we turned out to be just as unpleasant as her?’

‘That doesn’t make sense. Diana was said to be beautiful and…’ Athy trailed off mid-thought.

‘In both of our recollections of the novel, it only talks about her appearance. There’s nothing in it that indicates that she’s got a kind or shit personality. We’ll probably need to ask Lily if she knows any stories about her to confirm that, but the dude clearly has some beef with her.’

“I was beginning to think that you couldn’t speak,” Claude had commented, staring at Athanasia. At that, Athy hiccuped from the sudden attention.

‘Does… does that mean he’s going to kill us if we don’t entertain him?!’ Athy had screeched, making Athan internally sigh in exasperation. “Athy can talk,” she smiled, aiming her fake smile at the man sitting across from them.

“Why did you stay silent?”

Athy had no response for that, and as Athan finished chewing on another piece of his cake, he looked at her.

‘What do I say to that?!’ Athy had asked, turning to look at Athan. ‘Help me!’

He tilted his head in consideration, ‘You said it yourself, though. I get most of my looks from him — maybe just… talk about that? Say that I look a lot like him?’

“Mister looks like Athan!” Athy had blurted out immediately after he finished that thought. ‘Oh my god, oh my god, why did I just blurt that out? We literally considered that he has issues with our mom similar to on the level with Jennette’s mother! What if he doesn’t like the reminder that he’s our dad? What if—’

“But mister looks more like Athy,” Athan had blinked, seeming confused. “He can’t look like Athan. Athan is Athan and Athy is Athy.”

‘What kind of ridiculous sentence is that?’ Athy stared at her brother, dumbfounded.

‘It was enough to get you to stop freaking out, didn’t it?’ Athan raised a brow.

“Maybe mister’s our father?” The moment that slipped out, Athanasia froze. She began to cycle through her anxiety once more, pale and terrified of being punished for saying it. ‘Of all the things I could’ve said!’ she internally cried. ‘I’ve done it now — I’ve dug my own grave, Athan!’

They both looked back at Claude who stared at them, seeming thoughtful.

‘W-what…? Didn’t I just have an epic fail?’ Athanasia blinked. ‘Come to think of it… Claude liked, Jennette, right?’

“Papa?” Athan tilted his head, looking at Claude who remained silent. ‘He doesn’t seem angry. And Felix, his guard, seems to be overjoyed that we’re calling Claude our dad.’

‘Then why won’t he respond?’

‘Should we try again?’

‘Alright…’

“Papa!” they both cheerfully smiled.

Suffice to say, they survived their first of many tea parties with Claude.

A simple comic for practice. I don't do comics a lot, I kinda want to try to make more. This is like the second one I've made and it's just to figure out how. I have no idea why the bigger pieces tend to come out blurry, but at least the last panel is clear.

The context behind this is that I usually die in the most avoidable ways. I don't jump high enough, I forget I can run, etc. etc. I play Hollow Knight mainly because I enjoy the lore and exploration, but in order to explore you gotta fight through a lot of enemies and bosses.

The backgrounds are just blurred googled pictures of in-game locations.

Because it's been almost two years since rejoining the fandom and because I'm pretty sure no one is going to see this (at least, not for a long while) I'm going to do what any person on tumblr does: ramble about a character they really like.

I got reminded that Robots In Disguise (2015) was indeed a show after seeing one of Emperor Kumquat's latest videos. I barely remember anything beyond the first season besides vague feelings of childish enjoyment, okayness, disappointment, and random bursts of anger. And before I begin to ramble about something other then what I planned to (and most likely just re-state things that have been said a hundred times) I'm just gonna get to it.

I have really mixed feelings about Starscream's RID re-design.

On one hand, there are certain aspects of it that I do like. I thought it was kinda cool that it looked like they took some of G1 Scream and TFA Scream's characteristics and at least kept a little bit of his heels. I kinda also liked his wings, and the "avenging angel" look they gave him as Emperor Kumquat said. But, sometimes his design kind of feels not so nice to look at. It's weird.

I honestly don't know how to explain it. Sometimes he just looks off to me.

I'm also not a fan of how they re-did his claws. I don't even know if these pictures help illustrate the point, I just picked the two that I thought looked closest to how I felt off of google.

Yeah, I don't know how to explain it other than it feels off. It feels like Starscream, but not at the same time. I really loved his old design and it's one of the reasons I was always drawn to him whenever he entered a scene. He was intimidating in a more subtle way and had a somewhat regal, knightly appearance. Everything about him was expressive. His wing movements, his facial expressions, his giant pointy eyebrows, the way he moved. And single thing about him caught my eye, made me want to keep watching him.

I was excited when they brought him back because I missed him and was glad that he wasn't dead like I thought was, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed when I saw his redesign. I was even more disappointed with how they took him out, but this post isn't about that. This is just me talking into the void that is the internet about how I felt about a character's redesign from a show that's like 4 years old. This was also a surprisingly short ramble, which I guess is good for whoever is reading this. This probably would have been a lot longer if I talked about the show itself, but I'm pretty sure I would just be re-stating points that other people have said before.

A quick and dirty rundown of some of the premier MtG planes, ranked by how nice a place they would be to live. Very subjective obviously, and I’d love to hear if people agree/ disagree/ have any strong feelings on the matter at all~ I stuck mostly to planes where I felt enough was known about it to make a tentative judgment call on its general safety/ enjoyability.

Note that for the below list, the criteria is that you are a) a human, who b) is primarily interested in living a long, peaceful life c) ideally with minimal external control by outside powers.

1) Kaladesh

– Periodically corrupt government, but overall a plane which offers lifestyles for urban and rural preferences, has plentiful clean energy, and supports both the arts and the sciences for public benefit.

2) Kylem

– Not many options for a quiet life, judging by the admittedly small sampling of the plane seen so far. Does seem to have a fairly lower fatality rate for all that, and Cloudspire City ranks high on places to visit for a fun time.

3) Eldraine

– Surprisingly benevolent monarchy, even verging on democratic in areas. Dangers of wilds exist, but odds of random monster death are reasonably mitigated compared to other planes. Limited career options for the layperson, though more fields open up if willing to take on the life of a knight.

4) Equilor

– Peaceful but dull, which is basically exactly the criteria for this particular test.

5) Dominaria

– Lots of world to see if you fancy adventure, and a diverse number of places to settle down if you don’t. Options for scholars, warriors, farmers, traders, artists, and writers alike. Currently no pending apocalypse, but the track record is not so good. Death machines just a few layers of dirt down.

6) Alara (Bant)

– Not a bad life to be had, if a bit over-codified. Even life as a warrior is not bad, at least pre-conflux. Peaceful and well-ordered, and passes the criteria for this list, albeit only for a brief period of time.

7) Theros

– Many options re: career path, from farmer to warrior to philosopher to herder. Do have to contend with sudden, violent death from monsters, minotaurs, or gods getting bored, so constantly on edge, probably.

8) Ravnica

– Pretty much the gold standard for variety in life paths. Entertainer, provider, lawyer, doctor, scientist, artist, spy, usurer...the world is your oyster if you’ve got the gumption. Semiapocalyptic events fairly frequent in recent years, though nothing has stuck. Very few options for the non-urban inclined that don’t involve joining a cult or grafting new parts onto your body.

9) Shandalar

– current status a bit unclear, but a great plane for anyone looking to incorporate casual magic into their day-to-day life. Likely still a ripe target for planeswalker visitors looking to harvest the rich mana therein.

10) Fiora

– Fairly interesting and relatively low-key place to live if you keep your head down and out of the hardcore politicking. Rural living options exist.

11) Plane of Mountains and Seas

– limited information, but seems pretty chill.

12) Bablovia

– here for a good time, not a long time.

13) Alara (Naya)

– Not too bad, if you don’t get stepped on. Mostly jungle living, but if you’re down with that, there are fun adventures to be had.

14) Kamigawa

– Sure, your Daimyo may occasionally invoke the wrath of the sizeable and omnipresent spirit world, casting the whole of the plane into bitter, arcane civil war, but in any other situation you’ve got a fairly diverse and interesting world to live in, and nowadays there’s even a pair of spirits protecting you from extraplanar threats.

15) Lorwyn/Shadowmoor

– Depending on the side of the aurora you find yourself on, you will either want to seek out the elves for sanctuary, or avoid them at all costs. Lorwyn is pleasant enough, if you resign yourself to not seeing any other humans, and are good with extremely rural living. Watch overhead for giants at all times.

16) Alara (Esper)

– Long life options available, if you are good with artifacts™, and cool with swapping out some of your fleshy bits. A wee bit classist.

17) Kephelai

– peaceful and ordered enough, but definitely leaning on the oppressive side of the political spectrum. Not the most fun people to live among, either.

18) Regatha

– Some like it hot; some might not.

19) Muraganda

– The perfect plane for all you paleo diet enthusiasts out there. Living might be a little too bare-bones and dinosaur-filled for the average person.

20) Ixalan

– A few options here, all pretty narrow. Piracy and vampire imperialism both involve a life of violence and in the latter case, a high degree of servitude. Sun empire pretty viable option for humans comfortable with dinosaurs, and, as of the most recent story, going full aztec.

21) Tarkir (Khans)

– A varied lifestyle options to pick from. Very few leisurely ones available, barring a life of deceit and treachery with the Sultai. Inter- and intra-clan conflict more or less unavoidable, but not of a disastrous scale that you’ll find on different planes.

22) Zendikar

– Excellent opportunities for forging your own path in life, and endless options for adventure. Lacking in safe places to settle down and live without sudden death by avalanche/tidal wave/typhoon/ eruption/ sinkhole/ eldritch horror.

23) Mercadia

– Opportunities for rural and urban living, if you are at peace with living in a trash heap/ dust bowl. Forest living is an option if you don’t mind the mercenary raids, but at least others will have your back. Options for piracy as well, though not as flashy as the Ixalan variety. No apocalyptic events to worry about, which puts it head and shoulders above a few other planes on the list.

24) Gargantikar

– See Segovia; this time, it is you who gets stomped. May be ideal for anyone who saw Disney’s jack and the beanstalk and decided life on a giant kitchen table was the life for them.

25) Segovia

– Oh jeez, please be careful where you step. If you could just – we’ve got a lovely hundred acres of pasture for you to take a seat in if you would just take care not to step on OH MY GOD YOU’VE KILLED THEM ALL (Yes, Segovia corrects for scale with planeswalker visitors, but I stand by the joke)

26) Serra’s Realm

– Fairly peaceful in theory, but the oversight is pretty strict, and it’s no good if you’ve got a fear of heights. Very limited time to enjoy living there if floating fields and angels are your jam.

27) Vryn

– Regularly corrupt government, in constant conflict with other major power over contested energy sources, with everyone else placed firmly in the middle of the meat grinder.

28) Innistrad

– You can certainly live long as a vampire or free as a werewolf, but as both are of dubious desirability for the average person, this plane will rank a bit low.

29) Mirrodin (Pre-besieged)

– Prospects for living a quiet life exist, with major caveats regardless of which human society you wind up in. Basically take your pick between constant danger of attack, subservience to another species, living in a place not designed for habitation by any form of life, or some combination of the three.

30) Tarkir (Dragons)

– Much narrower lifestyle options than the khans timeline, and higher odds of dying within your own clan, though which dragon you end up under makes a huge difference in the quality of life. Dromoka and Ojutai probably the best options if your goal is longetivity.

31) Ulgrotha

– Dead/ dying plane, and the management sucks.

32) Rath (pre-overlay)

– Mercadia situation amped up to 11. Oppress or be oppressed, with an uncomfortable middle ground where you will experience both. Also a generally hostile landscape due to nanomachine silly putty.

33) Alara (Jund)

– Spicy Naya. Probably can last a while if you’re quick on your feet, but no one dies of old age here.

34) Amonkhet

– Dead/ dying world, even if it wasn’t host to a horrific logan’s run/ hunger games inspired colonialism. Not so bad short-term, if you want to work on your beach body. At least you have a god looking out for you, unlike...

35) Alara (Grixis)

– The living hunted for their life-force...hellscape of zombies and demons...Grixis fails most of the criteria for the list, but you’ve got a slightly more sporting chance of survival here than with some of the planes further down.

36) New Phyrexia

– NOT GREAT

37) Phyrexia (Nine Spheres)

– Pictured above: the worst place in the multiverse, as a backdrop to the most wonderful person in the multiverse

I've listened to the part where Geralt talks with a very ill Cahir about Ciri and vengeance... it was one of the most emotional parts of the book by itself but also thanks to your take about the lost innocence of Ciri ! I felt it thrice hard in the feelings! Also, do you have thoughts on the declared love of Cahir for Ciri? Personally I see it as disturbingly romantic, let's say. omg thank you for the ask. first of all i have to say you’re not bothering me!! tbh i have been loving getting asks because it gives me an opportunity to like bring more discussion to the witcher community...

i feel like although reblogging pretty gifs of characters/landscapes from tw3 and any good fanart i can find is nice, my FAVORITE thing to do is write or read a really long textpost about the witcher books, i really like the discussion aspect of fandoms where people post their reactions and opinions to the content they like, because you get a bunch of shared reactions and differing opinions.

so no this is NOT a bother at all, and its nice especially to get asks about topics that i have strong feelings about but have not made posts about yet, like this one

ok, as for the actual topic: i hate forced heterosexuality, so you KNOW i hate that canon cahiri! it was out of line from sapkowski and imo, it came out of absolutely nowhere in tower of the swallow, it wasn’t something built up to or foreshadowed at all, so it felt not only weird in context but weird for sapkowski as an author.

my main problem with canon cahiri: i think it’s super creepy!

first of all, let’s discuss the age difference. cahir in baptism of fire is estimated to be “not over 25,” which i see as putting him around 20 to 25 years old, and i usually take the median of this which is around 23. while this “not over 25″ comment is said in the context of the hansa to remark upon how young cahir is (i believe it’s thought of by either geralt or dandelion, and geralt is around 60 years old and as a witcher he looks 45, and dandelion is 38 in tower of the swallow), and how cahir is described as a young man in time of contempt to illustrate that he has a sense of innocence to him as ciri cuts him down, his age gap with ciri is super innappropriate for anything to occur between them, since she is 10 or 11 during the massacre of cintra (as stated by geralt in something more), so she would be around 14 at thanedd, and 15-16 during baptism of fire to lady of the lake. so sapkowski deemed it fit to pair a 23 year old man with a 16 year old girl. this isn’t the first time he’s done something like this, what with essi being “not over 18″ and shani also bein around 18 / college age, and yennefer canonically looking around 20. listen, the man has some messed up values when it comes to women’s ages. we have to take it upon ourselves as people who like the not-weird parts of canon to understand how worldviews and personal biases affect one’s writing, and change it for ourselves to make it right so we can continue interacting with it, if we so choose (tldr: retcon some shit when it’s fucked up in canon).

now, before someone argues that “it’s fantasy medieval world, medieval relationships between men and women were just like that,” believe me, i am aware. i study ancient greece/rome and men who were in their 30s were most often paired with women in their teens as part of their arranged marriages. that is how their ancient societies functioned more than 2000 years ago. the issue is that this is a fantasy world, in which societal norms and laws do not have to conform to real-life earth history, and this is the work of a modern writer writing in the 1990s. it’s not “just how the times were,” it’s deliberately choosing to include an age gap like that to be something canonically acceptable by their society/ies.

also, one could argue that the age gap would be fine once they are older, like, when ciri becomes an adult she is already medievally-style betrothed to cahir so they start dating when she’s like 20 and he’s like 27. eh... that’s still an uncomfortable age gap, at least for when they’re in their 20s. people in their older 20s have more life experience than people in their younger 20s. but at least it wouldn’t land cahir in modern-day jail.

it’s still just an uncomfortably large age gap, and if you think about it, it’s even creepier considering that cahir met ciri when she was a helpless child around 10 - 11 and it just makes the bathing scene excruciatingly creepy too if you put it in the context that he eventually would fall in love with her. it even begins to not be about strictly age, but about life experience, development, and power imbalance within the relationship. i mean, he did literally kidnap her.

cahir in tos calls ciri a “woman” when she is like, 15 or 16 (with the rose tattoo) (to anyone reading, please don’t come at me with that “the age of consent is 15 in poland, just because it’s 18 in the US doesn’t mean your laws and culture apply to everyone” ... please do not try and justify this with laws, legality is not morality. only saying this because i’ve seen it in other posts). like.... hm! don’t like that! she is a teenager... he is in his 20s... this should not be occuring.

sorry for the loooong explanation, but every time someone brings up the subject of age gaps on tumblr it turns into crazy discourse with everyone trying to justify it.

but yeah, CANONICALLY cahir would have been 16-21 (median 18) when he met ciri at 10-11, and 20-25 (median 23) when he declares his love for her at 15-16. that’s ... not good ... to put it more into perspective, these are their ages on a traditional school system path: a 18 year old is a high school senior, an 11 year old is a 6th grader. a 23 year old has been out of college for 2 years, a 16 year old is a high school sophomore. ITS NOT GOOD

my other problem with canon cahiri: it’s boring and contradicts sapkowski at his own game.

all of the witcher is about taking fantasy tropes and inverting them, like you can’t have some random peasant kill a dragon, you’d need a professional, and also guess what, the dragon isn’t evil but a dad trying to protect his wife and child.

all of the characters in the hansa (as well as the four main characters of geralt, yennefer, ciri, and dandelion) are inversions of the tropes they represent. for some examples, milva’s trope is something like the hot action girl who only exists to be the only girl in the company and to be sexy eye candy. instead of falling into this, she is actually an action girl, not bothering with sexiness and appeal to the gaze of a male audience but a “get shit done” type, who also dresses and acts “like a man.” regis’ trope is all vampire tropes ever. he/vampires in the witcher doesn’t/don’t fall into any of the traditional european vampire myths like burning in sunlight, needing to drink blood to stay alive, being disdainful of humanity, having aversions to garlic, belonging to a super-secret orderful society that lurks in the shadows and controls everything like puppetmasters, etc... instead, he is the epitome of redemption arcs and overall “goody-goodiness,” understands humanity perfectly and does things out of his good nature. i already talk about regis too much, so i’ll quit it.

cahir is an inversion of every knight trope ever, particularly the evil knight. he scars ciri’s memory as a night terror, but actually is not ... a bad person. he’s just some guy, pressured by his family and his society to do what he saw as an assignment like a college kid might see their final essay assignment posted on canvas. except you know. the final exam was to kidnap a girl. and he got an F on that and failed the course (ie got thrown in prison). ANYWAYS, cahir is meant to be this inversion of the knight tropes, so WHY, WHY, WHY make him become the knight trope of being the one to romance and to save a hapless princess? if we’ve learned anything about ciri, it’s that she’s the inversion of the princess trope! she KILLS PEOPLE. she ALMOST KILLED CAHIR. she can defend herself and kill for herself, she doesn’t need the knight trope going to protect her!

heterosexual romance as the Big Reason and Motivation behind all of a character’s actions is tiring, annoying, boring, and not well-thought out. it’s so base and not unique, it doesn’t fit in with everything else about the witcher.

how i would fix it: not make them fall in love.

cahir already HAS a motivation to find ciri and to help her. he needs to APOLOGIZE. he needs to say, hey, i’m sorry i kidnapped you and ruined your life, i made peace with your dad, he doesn’t wanna kill me anymore, i can only hope that you can forgive me too after i SET THINGS RIGHT.

as opposed to regis’s arc (i swear i am not playing favorites with regis, i just tend to compare and contrast regis and cahir’s redemptions because they are quite different yet they join the hansa side by side so they’re bound to be compared), cahir actually can find the one (not many) people he wronged, and set things right on his own accord, not go forth with a larger mission to assist all humanity, or whatever.

i think cahir also had this WONDERFULLY UNDERUTILIZED anti-imperialist message as part of his character that pains me to see being swept under the rug for some cheap lame romance story. sapkowski already created some anti-war sentiments with the battle of the bridge in baptism of fire, and he tried to create anti-racism sentiments throughout the book/at the end of lady of the lake. anti-imperialism fits with the rest of the saga as a message.

the fact that cahir was instructed by his family to hate the northern kingdoms, despite the fact that they were related to northerners, is really profound as something to happen to a character, and holds a lot of meaning in today’s society. the fact that he broke, finally, after he lost ciri, just completely lost his mind and had to be restrained because he was wailing so hard, because of the pressure that this society put him under to succeed and achieve pride for his family, is such a great example of the tragedies of society. then he speaks out against his leader and is jailed... and yet, after this, he gets to learn from his mistakes and redeem himself as a good person, and his character has developed SO much. he is not doing what his country wants him to do, he is not doing what his family wants him to do. he is doing what he wants to do because it is the RIGHT thing to do. that already is such a powerful message, he doesn’t need anymore character motivation!

so yep that’s my thoughts on why cahir is a good character asides from all that forced romance biz

5. The Last Thing I Googled: So, I just recently rented an apartment and I’ve been trying to find plates, specifically plaid plates. I found these ones that I really liked, but they aren’t in stock. Also, why are stores treating plaid like its a seasonal pattern? Plaid is an all year round pattern.

6. Song Stuck in My Head: Carpenter Brut’s version of Maniac. IT IS SO GOOD!

7. Number of Followers: 341. (I’m pretty sure a good amount are bots or inactive, but eh, I can’t be bothered to go through and clean it out.)

8. Amount of Sleep: On the weekends, I get about 8-9 hours, but it really depends during the weekday, it can range anywhere from 3-7 hours. I’m a night owl and it takes me a while to fall asleep. Also, if I am really stressed, I get less sleep too.

10. Dream Job: I think I have my dream job. I really enjoy working as a librarian in a specialized library. There is a specific library I want to work at, which I’ve already interned at, but it’s just a matter of getting the right opportunity.

12. Favorite Author: I really can’t pick one. I’m just going to list a few of my favorites: Ray Bradbury, V.E. Schwab, Ted Chiang, Ken Liu, Madeline Miller, and so many others.

17. Random: Oh gosh, things like this are always hard to come up with. I used to be pretty proficient at translating Latin. I really hope to get back into some day and I regret not going for a Latin language major or minor in undergrad.

Toonami Weekly Recap 11/02/2019

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind EP#02 - Bucciarati Is Coming: In a flashback, it is revealed that Giorno, who was once abused by his step-father and bullied by other kids, began being treated with respect after saving an injured gangster, giving him a reason to live. Back in the present, faced with Bucciarati's Stand, Sticky Fingers, Giorno desperately uses Gold Experience to defend himself. Upon striking Bucciarati, the latter's senses to go berserk, giving Giorno the upper hand. Bucciarati creates a dimension-distorting zipper to try and escape inside another person, but Giorno tracks him down by turning one of Bucciarati's teeth into a fly, which attempts to return to his body. Given the chance to finish Bucciarati off, Giorno decides against it, instead asking to join his organization so he can defeat his boss and take over the city.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba EP#04 - Final Selection: Two years have passed since Nezuko's transformation, and Tanjiro leaves for the Final Selection. Before his departure, Urokodaki warns him that a demon's strength is equivalent to the number of humans it has eaten, gifting him a fox mask with a protection spell. Tanjiro reaches Mt. Fujikasane, where wisteria flowers bloom all year round, creating a prison for demons. The test administrators, a pair of twins, explain that only those who can survive here for 7 days will pass. Tanjiro is soon ambushed by two hungry demons on his very first night. Using a special "Nichirin Blade" that can kill demons without risk of them regenerating, Tanjiro remembers his training and utilises Total Concentration: Water Breathing swordsmanship style, to unleash an attack that kills them quickly. However, him and another applicant come face-to-face with a huge morphed demon made out of ghastly hands. This Hand Demon promises to kill him, recognising Tanjiro as Urokodaki's student from the fox mask, and gleefully admits to murdering 13 of Urokodaki's students since he was captured by the man himself, Sabito and Makomo included. Tanjiro attacks him, enraged. Back at the boulder, Sabito and Makomo's ghosts wonder if Tanjiro can defeat their killer, having failed themselves to slice its neck. Sabito recalls that Tanjiro sliced through the toughest boulder of all of them and chooses to believe. By unleashing an array of attacks, Tanjiro successfully decapitates the Hand Demon.

One-Punch Man 2 EP#04 (16) - The Metal Bat: It is revealed that when Garou was young, he always rooted for the bad guys to win due to the good guys being too popular. When he asked his father, his father replies that the good guys will always win. Garou find that unfair to the monsters because to him the monsters were always the ones trying their best to win, but will lose all the time because they were seen as "freaks." Unwilling to accept the status quo, Garou resolved to become the strongest monster and never lose, and to change the scenario. Garou wakes up from his defeat against Saitama, with no memory of what happened. Garou meets up with Tareo and sees Watchdog Man and Metal Bat, and plans to find them. Saitama signs up for the fighting tournament, and is looking over a list of the contestants of the tournament when Sour Face, a former disciple of Bang, shows up. Sour Face plans to win the tournament to be famous like Bang, and reveals that the year before a contestant named Wolfman won the tournament. However the authorities found the real Wolfman tied up, which is why there's a new rule that if there are any participants that are wearing disguises or is an imposter, then the participant will be disqualified and banned from the tournament forever, as well as paying a heavy fee. It is also revealed that 6 months ago Garou decided that he has nothing left to learn and rampaged through the dojo, disabling many of the students, including Sour Face. Garou then received a beating from Bang and was expelled from the dojo, which also caused Sour Face to quit the dojo. When Sour Face insults "Charanko", Saitama points out that at least Charanko was brave enough to fight against Garou one on one while Sour Face quit, and vows to win the tournament which angers Sour Face. Meanwhile, the Hero Association plans to protect its officials from monster attacks by assigning S Class Heroes. King manages to get away by lying that he's fighting against a secret boss when in reality he is playing a video game. Metal Bat is forced to babysit Narinki, a VIP sponsor of the Hero Association, and his son Waganma at a Mouse Sushi restaurant in S-City instead of watching his little sister play piano. When Metal Bat receives a call from his sister, two monsters named Junior Centipede and Venus Mantrap attack Nanrinki but Metal Bat easily kills them. Suddenly, another monster named Senior Centipede attacks Metal Bat. A monster named Raffleseidon appears and puts on sleeping gases which knocks out Narinki and Waganma. Metal Bat is forced to endure many hits before hitting himself in the head, which pumps adrenaline into his system, rendering the gas useless and enabling him to kill the two Demon Level monsters with one hit apiece. Two local heroes take Narinki and Waganma when a Dragon-level monster named Elder Centipede attacks Metal Bat. During the fight, Elder Centipede knocks Metal Bat near Garou. Thinking that Metal Bat is dead, Garou plans to find Watchdog Man when Metal Bat gets back up. Garou naturally wants to fight Metal Bat, but Metal Bat wants to go back after Elder Centipede. Garou initiates the fight by attacking Metal Bat, and Metal Bat barely manages to block the preemptive blow. In the post credit scene, a martial artist named Suiryu asks two girls to lead him to the Fight tournament.

Dr. Stone Kingdom of Science Arc EP#11 - Clear World: Senku uses quartz sand to produce glass, which he uses to create glasses for the short-sighted Suika. Lacking the skills needed to glassblow useable lab utensils, Chrome brings in a skilled craftsman named Kaseki, who is able to quickly adapt to the unfamiliar substance. To break in their new lab, Senku offers to make Ginro a silver spear as part of a dangerous mission.

Fire Force EP#14 - For Whom The Flame Burns: While chaos reigns in Asakusa with Infernals appearing and people's appearance being changed at random, Konro and Benimaru argue over who should take charge. Benimaru eventually defers and gains everyone's attention. He explains what's happening, then goes after the Infernals while Konro and Company 7 attend to the fires. Meanwhile, Shinra and Arthur face Haran who has become a horned Infernal after swallowing an Infernal Bug. However, Benimaru intervenes and attacks Haran with his Ignition ability. Benimaru launches Haran into the air with his matoi to spare the town, but Arrow fires a flaming arrow towards them. Shinra uses all of his speed to intercept and deflect the arrow, allowing Benimaru to take the opportunity to use his Crimson Moon (紅月 Akatsuki) avility to create a massive explosion which destroys Haran. Shinra catches Benimaru as he falls from the sky, completely spent from the confrontation. Later, Benimaru and Obi share some sake, sealing the friendship between Companies 7 and 8.

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma EP#17 - The Seductive Karaage: Arriving back home, Soma temporarily re-opens Yukihira Diner to serve his loyal customers, including his childhood friend, Mayu Kurase, who has a crush on him. He learns that the Sumire Shopping District has been doing poor business lately due to the arrival of a popular karaage chain shop, Mozuya. Wanting to help revive the shopping district, Soma decides to come up with a competing karaage recipe, calling in Ikumi as his meat expert while Mayu winds up as his taste tester. The three do some recon at Mozuya, where they find its CEO Kinu Nakamozu to be a spiteful woman, before beginning work on a karaage recipe of their own. As Soma takes Mayu's suggestion to use their shopping district location to their advantage, it is revealed that the figure behind Mozuya's success is one of the Elite Ten.

Lupin the 3rd Part 5 EP#20 - Zenigata, Gentleman Thief: Lupin, Jigen and Goemon take a trip to one of their old haunts in Russia to carry out some easy heists. To their surprise, they find another party of thieves already raiding the same targets with their old enemy Zenigata among their ranks. When Lupin talks with Zenigata, he finds that the latter has alcoholic amnesia from a massive drinking bout after another failure to catch Lupin. Zenigata has adopted the alias "Monety" and the modus operandi of his old nemesis Lupin while trying to uncover his lost identity. Unwilling to leave Zenigata in that condition, Lupin and company intercept Zenigata at the site of his next heist. When Lupin and Zenigata escape the crime scene together, the encounter finally snaps Zenigata's memory back into place, and to everyone's relief their relationship returns to its usual state.

Black Clover: Elf Tribe Reincarnation Arc EP#93 - Julius Novachrono: Marx, the Wizard King's advisor, sends word to every squad captain, ordering them to help the Wizard King. Licht's spells cause massive damage to the city, yet Julius holds back so as not to injure Vangeance's body. Julius reveals his Grimoire, which is so large with so many pages it has no cover, just an endless circle of pages around a central spine. Licht comes to believe that as he had planned to unbalance the world by eradicating humans, fate itself conspired to restore balance by creating Julius as the embodiment of order. Licht casts a spell powerful enough to completely wipe out the entire country. Julius recalls his youth as a magic knight, searching for his life's purpose, until he met Zara, Zora's father, who taught him that a true knight should serve the people. After Zara was murdered Julius grew disgusted at the way the class system kept both nobles and commoners from reaching their potential. He decided to become the Wizard King so he could help make the world a better place through the efforts of knights like Asta, Yuno and Noelle. Refusing to give in Julius uses all his accumulated time to reverse the entire country back a few seconds, saving everybody but leaving himself open to Licht who stabs him in the heart. Yami arrives too late to stop him and draws his sword in preparation to kill both Licht and Vangeance.

Deadly Fortune: Wrapup

Okay, so now that I’ve read the translation for both novels, I have a lot of thoughts. I won’t link these to the notes since it’s just my ramblings, but I’m just going to dump them here in case someone else finds this stuff as interesting as I do. If you found something in my notes interesting or get inspired for some fanfic or headcanons, please let me know! I’d love to talk about this stuff.

But here’s my takeaways:

Sadly, there is no information about Nero's birthday or how old he was when he was left at the orphanage.

Why were Kyrie's parents the only ones to make the connection between Nero's appearance and Sparda? Was Sparda's human disguise not common knowledge? If so, how did they know about it? Were they important members of the Order?

There's a line about how the high ranking Order of the Sword members initially wanted to invite Dante to Fortuna so they could basically worship him as a living god (until they realized he's a complete slob and not very godlike at all). I mean, that's some interesting stuff right there. What if they'd coaxed Dante there at some point? Or what if Sanctus had figured out that Nero was Vergil's son way earlier? Maybe he would've used the kid as a puppet to run things or something.

Trish and Dante were in Fortuna for a month before things went down. I'd be curious about what exactly they got up to.

Nero being very sensitive to the presence of the Sparda is an interesting hook. And that he feels the Yamato as if it is an extension of himself.

Vergil's chat with Sanctus back before Nero was born has some possibilities. What if he'd stuck around? Or if Sanctus hadn't been quite savvy enough to not attack Vergil and got himself killed?

Nero was the Order's hitman to take out possessed people without anyone knowing. I mean, in the book he's supposed to be 16-17, but he makes it sound like he's been doing this for a while. I think he joined the order 3 years prior, so 13-14, which would mean he's been killing people since he was pretty darned young. And were those people really possessed?? Were they people who failed the Ascension Ceremony? Or even just random folks that Sanctus thought were problematic?

Credo actually wanted Nero to undergo the Ascension Ceremony. He was even trying to set the kid up to get in the higher-ups good graces by having him catch Dante. What would've happened if Nero had gone through the process? And what was the criteria for selecting people for the ceremony? Was it just who they thought would survive, or was it people who Sanctus thought would be useful?

Credo knew how his parents died, but never told Kyrie. Did anyone else know? Will Nero and Kyrie ever learn? How would they feel about Credo keeping such a secret?

All those people in cages in the basement! What happened to them? Did they get killed when the HQ collapsed? Are they now running around free? Is there a way to save them?

Sanctus murdered his predecessor. Just makes me wonder what other kind of shady things he'd done. Or maybe that was his tipping point? Like, is it possible he was more like Credo at one point, honorable but driven by his vision of a better world? Some of the lines make me think he was greedy, though, that he wanted to rule rather than to protect. It would still be interesting to explore a more complex version of Sanctus.

What if Nero couldn't pull himself back together when he was absorbed by the Savior? What if Dante had to use the Yamato to separate Nero from it? Could there have been consequences? What if he messed up and split Nero's demon and human halves?

Sparda was definitely around when Dante and Vergil were little since he trained them in swordsmanship and told them stories. When did he leave? What kind of stories did he tell them? I'd be curious if some of those stories possibly shaped the twins into the people they became.

I like Kars. There's no word on if he's just a citizen or if he's a knight. Maybe he's the requisitions officer? Or he could just be the island's postmaster. He seems to be able to get all kinds of contraband stuff, though.

It's not clear when Sparda was actually living on Fortuna (or if he was). It was at least 4-500 years ago judging by the age of that Order of the Sword manual that John has. The bridge to the castle is said to be 2000 years old, but right before that Nero is talking about the 'Middle Ages.' Also, just how much did Arkham know about the Order? Had he ever been to Fortuna? What if he'd gone there after Vergil and discovered Nero? What kind of shenanigans would he have pulled?

"Compassion without power can't change anything." I just like that line. Nero's desire for power almost seems innate.

Who's Greg??? He shows up for one sentence and then doesn't do anything. Why was Gloria with him? Greg, tell me your secrets!

What is the actual organizational structure of the Order? Just… I really want to know. We get that there's a Technology Bureau, an Investigation Bureau, some kind of board of trustees that runs things, the 'pope' is in charge, there's a Supreme General running the Holy Knights, and the lower ranked knights don't know anything about what is going on.

Everyone but Kyrie and Credo call Nero 'little devil.' It's sorta cute.

Why is there so much magic on Fortuna? Why is it easy to open Hell Gates there? Is it because the original Hell Gate was there or was the magic there first? I kinda want to think that there was some sort of witch cult or something there before Sparda closed the gate. Maaaaaaaybe Umbra Witches? Not canon, I know, but I love the thought.

From Kings Cross home again you felt yourself pulled through the house to the distant Southern Wing. Between the torn edges of the tapestries that straight on glimmered like new under its enchantment to reveal themselves only to your bloodline and fading of the portraits half cast in shadows all curiously peering out you with scowls breaking from their face. Each of them wondering what brought their youngest relative to this wing.

Aloofly you released your braid that slid down over your back. Your head tilted back in front of the red double doors etched with golden accents above which you read the name ‘Ignus’ you recognized as a cousin for your ancestor and former Headmaster at Hogwarts Phineas, opening the door you looked around eyeing the entirely golden room with bright red wooden furniture inside making you whisper, “Someone was colorblind.” Stepping inside you heard someone coming up behind you while you moved to the alcove in the wall shifted into a small study still packed with notes and random trinkets.

Neville behind you asked, “Snooping for anything in particular?”

You shook your head saying, “No, just, had to come in.”

Neville walked to your side peering up at the books on the shelves, “Does it ever get old?” You glanced at him with a curious grin, “Sensing things?”

Chuckling to yourself you replied, “At times. This is different. Just have to find out why.” Making him chuckle and help you flip through each book and skim over every page, the second shelf of which when reached found Draco curiously joining you.

Draco skimmed his fourth book asking, “What are we looking for?”

You shrugged then reached out for another book only to miss the spine and knock your knuckle on the shelf, soft echoes of a memory tried to play for you but it was too worn from years of dusting on the shelves. Sliding your fingers along the shelves you crouched down until you found a tiny scuff in the wood.

Turning your head you peered around the books there until you found a tiny groove, emptying that portion of the shelf with the help of the guys around you a clear outline was discovered. Without a lever or button to press you simply pressed on the back and heard a click, retracting your hands you eased the shelf out only to pause seeing the back was a false back. A sliding latch there like on the back of a picture frame was turned and it easily came free revealing a leather binder that you turned over in your hands.

Across the front of it you read the message in latin, ‘A Black in Need Has a Friend in Deed.’

Draco’s brows furrowed, “In Deed, why the space?”

You shrugged and grabbed the leather strap on the side untwisting it from the securing fob to open the binder revealing a stack of Deeds to various properties, “Wow.” Easing back you sat down and crossed your legs while you set them all out, “The Paris Manor.”

Neville, “This one’s in Rome.”

Draco, “These are in Russia.”

With furrowed brows you eyed the others, “Barbados?” Flipping through the twenty reading from Barbados you left the others to the boys, who read off one in every continent including one in Antarctica as you got up and moved to the large map along the wall. Tracing the longitude and latitude lined your fingers paused on empty ocean making you shake your head, “There’s nothing there.”

At that the boys turned and climbed to their feet joining you, Neville said, “Maybe they’re unplottable now?”

“Maybe…Phineas might know.” Turning around you spotted the knight in the portrait on the wall and asked, “Would you be able to get a message to Phineas through his portrait in Hogwarts, we have a question for him? Please, thank you.” His head bowed and he raced off. In his absence you drew out one of your Thestral items to locate the islands on the map, a task coming up with the tiny creature simply circling the empty ocean in that same area.

Behind you Phineas’ voice sounded clearly, “I was informed you requested my aid?”

With a nod you turned, “Yes, um, we found these deeds, and these twenty,”

He nodded, “Yes, the sanctuaries.”

Your brow inched up and you three asked, “Sanctuaries?”

He nodded, “Yes, my cousin had an interest in magical beasts, those islands hold a variety of them.” As you took notes he listed all he could remember of them then he added, “All the islands are connected by archways with settlements on each sitting empty. Also bit of a nutter, expecting the world to collapse, though, best you find those now, seems it might come in handy.” His head turned to the right and he said, “Was that all? Albus is calling me.”

You nodded, “Thank you very much, yes.”

Phineas nodded and said with a grin your way, “Do not worry, before you dug those up none but Ignus and I knew of those islands.”

With that he left and you glanced at the pair of them making Draco smirk, “Anyone up for an exploration?”

Neville grinned, “They did say we would be on our own till dinner.”

You nodded and after hiding the deeds again and righting the shelves and books you left the room to go find the twins. Excitedly through your enchanted doorway you eyed the tropical paradise, with brooms in hand you soared overhead tracing the miles of land on each forming crude maps for each mimicking the one for Hogwarts to mark the creatures there. None that could be traced by Muggles and docile for those with magic, at your side Draco said, “Think of how many we could hide here.”

You nodded, “Exactly.”

Magical condos were set up on each complete with self sustaining greenhouses and water systems, upon returning you began to formulate plans, already you had a list of names of possible targets, and with the space needed to hide them you could now begin to form a plan. Back in your room you set out the maps then glanced at your door saying, “K?”

Across your bed you were all settled and popping up at the foot of it K eyed you all asking, “Yes, my Mistress?”

“I have a question to ask you, that might upset you, but please hear me out.”

“You can always ask me anything my Mistress.”

You wet your lips then asked, “How would one go about finding another House Elf in need of a house to serve?”

You could catch his momentary flinch and inhale before answering, “There are listings, in certain unsavory places you yourself should not wander through. Though it is easier for a fellow Elf to send out word for others. You are wishing for another Elf, Mistress?”

Scooting the maps closer to his view he climbed up onto the bench at the foot of your bed and looked them over, “We own these lands, and soon there will be a great many to protect. A task greater than the Order can handle on its own.” Wetting your lips you continued, “We have ways to find out who would be taken next, if we could get House Elves to assist in the gathering and tending to those living on these islands I think we could outlast this. What do you think?”

In a relaxing exhale he looked you five over then nodded, “It sounds like a remarkable plan. I will send out word for as many Elves as possible. Once bound none can spill your secrets, even when cursed. Word has spread of how our family treats our Elves we should have plenty of applicants by the end of the week.”

“Thank you K.”

He grinned and nodded his head, “Anything for you, my Mistress.”

The Pears would be arriving for New Years instead of Christmas granting you a bit more time and saving you the hassle of having to guide Petunia through their interrogations on how your mother had grown up.

In a fresh snowfall you stepped through your doorway and out into the empty park and took the brief stroll through the empty streets to the Dursley home. Since Marge’s last visit did not go as planned Vernon was called to go out to their family home out near Shropshire freeing Dudley and Petunia to come and stay with you. A knock on their door had Petunia animatedly opening it to usher you inside, “Come in, come in, just rounding up the last bits. Dudley!” Upstairs shuffling was heard and she flashed you a quick grin, “You are certain there will be room for us all?”

“The Black Family home isn’t much of a home, per se,” her brow ticked up, “One of the oldest families in the Wizarding World, there’s a lot of money behind it and it’s more of a castle than a house.”

“You live in a castle?”

“It is safe, mostly between there and the Weasley home we spend our time. Their home is around the same size as yours. It was more about a safe place to hide that no one could find. But no, there’s plenty of room, much needed since the Malfoys and Tonks’ will be coming over this year again.”

She nodded again, “And they know we’re coming?”

You nodded, “Yes, trust me, no one is going to give you a hard time. You’re family.”

In a few moments Dudley was down the steps with his bag in hand asking, “Harry’s gonna be there? We haven’t had a Christmas with Harry in years.”

“Yup. You ready?”

Petunia nodded then asked, “How are we traveling?”

“I can call the doorway if you like unless you’d like to take the scenic route through to London for the Grimmauld Place entrance.”

Dudley, “Doorway? Like when Harry left last time, just going through our door?” You nodded, “How do you do that?”

With a chuckle you asked, “You’ve seen Howl’s Moving castle?”

Dudley nodded, “So it’s like their doorway then, with a dial and all?”

You nodded, “Something like that, more with runes than with color wheels, and only certain people can call the doorway or pass through it, any intruders are sent off to the marshes.”

To the doorway you led the duo and into the dimly lit hall they followed you trying to read the runes etched into the worn and faded wallpaper along the walls until the stained glass door before them was opened and they both gasped in the first sight of the main hall you led them into. Behind them the door was closed and looking around they took in all they could in following you through it to their rooms, “I’ll show you to your rooms then we can pop back down for some tea.”

Along the way to the matching silver, yellow accented rooms you pointed out a great deal of what was along the way until they entered their assigned rooms to inspect them and eagerly come back to your side for the walk to the window coated sitting room where tea was waiting for them. There Petunia asked in taking her seat as Dudley peered up at the painting with penguins chasing butterflies, “Are you alone here?”

You shook your head, “No, my cousins Draco and Neville are sleeping. Neville’s baby sister Nellie just had her tonsils out so they had a late night ice cream party when she got home. Their parents are upstairs sleeping, Draco’s parents should be along after work, they work with Dad, Regulus and Remus. There was an incident in the Ministry yesterday so they all got called in early. The Tonks’ should be in tomorrow. The Weasleys, well, Harry’s at theirs till lunch helping to shift everything to come over by lunch, had some big snow and they need to get some repairs on their sheds and pig pens, small stuff.”

You giggled softly serving the tea, “So no, not alone, just the only one up right now. Oh, and you remember Severus,” she nodded, “He’s coming too, along with Barty, another of our Professors. Hagrid should be along too with Minerva and sometimes Dumbledore drops by if he’s up to a crowd, usually avoids family gatherings.”

Petunia, “You really get on with all of your Professors then?” Lifting her cup for a sip as you added a sugar cube to yours.

“Yes, most of them are like family. When I had to play dead I spent a lot of my time with them.”

Dudley asked sheepishly, “Those creatures, over the summer,” he wet his lips, “Are more of them coming?”

You shook your head, “No.”

Petunia caught the moment of tensing you had and asked, “What about the ones who sent them?”

“Umbridge sent them, hoping to get Harry expelled. She has been suspended, and there are others, who would come after Muggles, we’re doing all we can to keep as many safe as possible. It’s happening again, just like before. The war is starting up again.”

Dudley, “What happens if they come after us again?”

“We’ll come and get you.”

Petunia, “To live here? What would we do then?”

You wet your lips and lowered your cup to its saucer on the table, “You could, or we could take you to one of the islands we’re setting up for the people we are hiding away. Sort of like a resort when we’re finished with them.”

Petunia, “How much would that cost?”

You shook your head, “Not a thing, it’s all self sustaining. It’s a sanctuary from the war.”

Dudley, “But it’s your war? Why would it affect us?”

With a sigh you answered, “Every was has its innocent casualties. Bystanders sucked into it. Our worlds are so intermingled with yours that it would be impossible.” In a reach into your pocket you brought out a trio of chains with a clear pendants filled with bubbles and tiny rubber duck they both accepted, “Which is why I wanted you to have these. If you ever feel anything, if you’re ever in need of help or just get a gut feeling of being unsafe give the pendant a squeeze and we’ll come to check on you.” They nodded and adjusted the chains in their hands to put them on as you said, “I do hope you never need them, but just in case…”

Petunia’s eyes met yours as Dudley asked, “Who’s going to come for you, if you feel unsafe?”

Forcing a grin onto your face in a poor mask of your misty eyed reaction, “None of us are safe. We’re all targets, any and everyone they can hurt they will.” After a quick sniffle you raised your cup again at the quiver of Petunia’s lip, “We just have to be smarter and faster than them.” Sipping on your drink.

Through the door Fred and George strolled through grinning at the guests and filled the empty seats saying, “Store room is all good. Most of Diagon Alley is shut down already.”

You nodded and Dudley asked, “Store room?”

“We have a shop.”

Before long a full spread on the Daily Prophet’s first page was another look into Scrimgeor’s stances on certain topics reading a lot like déjà vu for Fudge all over again. With it came a stack of letters, Charlie’s included a lengthy promise of coming home this year. Sebastian’s letter along with others from friends and your distant pen pals, including Fleur, who would be moving to England soon after a lengthy search for a suitable position to warrant it.

Long and oddly distant Sebastian’s letter read packed with details including a full update on his baby sister and the season so far that was taking him out to Spain next after the Holiday break. Him and Viktor both were excited as ever hearing that you were joining one of the teams for Ireland and both had questions of the premier for your first film they both asked if you and Hermione would be going there and were in need of dates again stirring a grin onto your face.

By lunch more relatives had shown up and the duo mingled getting to know your new family with special curiosity towards the Grangers, who shared a bit with Petunia on more of the Wizarding World and how they had adjusted to it. Though of course when K, Dobby came through their curiosity was attempted to be masked but at the first sighting of Idris and Opal Dudley broke into a barrage of questions for you and Harry leading to a lending of a set of creature books for beginners to help show them more of what creatures you could have handled in your travels.

From dinners to a nightly film selection the Dursleys enjoyed their time with you especially how ordinary your gifts seemed to be, past the expensive earrings the Pears had sent you for the premier, mainly books and clothes to their surprise. Two nights they enjoyed your company then had to go home again leaving you anxious in the interlude of a night separating them and the Pears. With a wide grin you met the couple at the station and led them back to your home where they settled in and got straight to asking about your plans for your next film.

Two already had been filmed and with a number of directors asking to audition you for roles with a pile of scripts you had been sent on just talk of your work ethic and personality alone there seemed to be no lull in the promising career you seemed to be beginning in their eyes. Along with Quidditch you seemed to be building quite the public image and in the past months Bernadette’s manager had graciously taken the task of taming the request for even odd modeling jobs from magazines and agencies your mother used to work with in hopes of helping you find your start.

On your final night at home in a loss for sleep after your spending the day checking in on the shop Oliver would open again in a few days the sound of a conversation inside the family tree room had you waiting in the shadow along the wall of the open doorway listening in out of sheer curiosity.

Harry, “Sirius, what is this?”

“This is the Black family tree from my parent’s house in Grimmauld Place. I hated the lot of them. My parents with their pure-blood mania. My mother did that after I ran away. Charming woman.” He said pointing at his burn mark over a branch with a small bud with your initials by it.

Harry, “Where did you go?”

“Round your dad's. I was always welcome at the Potters'. Long as James’ whims were seen to, liked to get his way and when he didn’t,” he let out a puff of air, “There wasn’t a county large enough for the both of us. More than half of every year he sent me out of our dorm. I see him so much of his good side in you, Harry. The rest from Lily. You are so very much alike the best of both of them.”

“I'm not so sure. Sirius, when I was...When I saw Mr. Weasley attacked, I wasn't just watching. I was the snake. And afterwards, in Dumbledore's office there was a moment when I wanted to...This connection between me and Voldemort. What if the reason for it is that I am becoming more like him? I just feel so angry all the time. And what if, after everything that I've been through something's gone wrong inside me? What if I'm becoming bad?” A silent tear streamed down your cheek and you shifted into a Demiguise to cross the doorway unseen then shift back again.

“I want you to listen to me very carefully, Harry. You're not a bad person. You're a very good person who bad things have happened to. You understand? Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.”

“I don’t feel very good sometimes.”

“When all this is over, we'll be a proper family. You'll see.”

“Really?”

Sirius nodded, “You’ll see, no more hiding. We can stop looking over our shoulders. So you just dig in and we’ll see the other side of this, you’ll see.”

Continuing on you headed for the kitchen to get a cup of apple cider you carried through into the film room to sit up watching yet another film of your grandmother’s. In doing so you seemed to be picking up on more of her memories trapped in the films filling in your mental image of who she once was. Not so far from yourself as it turned out making you wish you could have met her assuming she would have liked you.

After days of being unable to form a sentence to you after your last time speaking in the Triwizard Tournament Charlie settled onto the cushion beside you with an offered blanket and a mug of his own simply hoping his presence would help you even in silence. Though morning found you soon enough snuggled against his side stirring at his alarm to get ready for his flight back, a stolen hug and peck on the forehead later and once again he was gone completely aware of the tears in your eyes and sniffle pitifully hidden in your stroll back to your room to get some more sleep.

The third week of January found you back in Hogwarts and onto the days leading up to the Ravenclaw vs Slytherin match. Already in the final year of so many players mini tryouts had been held with those players asked to practice with the seventh years to pick up where they had left off in the following year.

Hogsmeade again came after with similar mini winter themed sales and treats for you all. The first exams were held and you were back into prepping for your NEWTS in May.

Valentines rolled around again and this time without news from Sebastian but a care package from Charlie. Dragon themed candies and a fuzzy blanket coated in tiny hatchlings blowing flames and sneezing icicles had you sitting up on your bed sniffling after a few giggles before you wrapped it around you and waited out your gap between Arithmacy and lunch in a try for a nap while the twins were with Katie and Angelina.

To the sound of the clock ticking away you tried not to think about anything past the dragons on your blanket. The opening of your door opened your eyes in the closing of it again. Up your steps someone climbed, barely felt footsteps and a hop over your legs lowered your gaze to Crookshanks who trotted for your arms and crawled into the blanket you raised turning to plop down in front of you. Contently he purred through your kiss on his head mumbling, “Hey Crookshanks.” Covering yourselves again at the drop of a pair of shoes, right behind you the waft of a familiar perfume announced Hermione in her move to lay out behind you with her arm draped across your middle. “Hey Hermi.”

Weakly she chuckled and settled behind you saying, “Thought you could use the company.”

“Charlie sent me a care package.”

“I noticed, nice blanket. I see he’s sticking to the dragon theme.”

You nodded then levitated the gossip magazine on the bed in front of you, “Take it you read the gossip.” Meaning the article containing pictures with Sebastian out on the town with one of the Veela from their cheer team including one of them kissing in the lift of their hotel. “I knew he would find someone else. Had the dream before he even left the school. I’m ok, just a bit tired today.”

“I’m glad you’re not torn up about it. Though I did want to ask, have you dreamed anything about those two again? The ones trying to impress me?”

Weakly you chuckled and shifted to your back waving your sketch book over ensuring Crookshanks wasn’t disturbed in doing so and showed her a couple of the sketches you had on the duo. Flipping through the book she asked, “So, you just have these dreams, about everyone’s lives? Is that normal, for Seers I mean?”

You shrugged, “Trelawney says some are more open than others. Sort of like that old fable, about the weak man drawing a circle around himself, then those drawing one around his family, and the greatest drawing a circle around many, even strangers, and seeing to all their safety. Just depends on how strong they are, the closer they are the more you see. But most of mine are on the blondes still and the boys.”

“I’m sorry.” Your head turned to catch her eye when she looked at you, “I know it must be hard for you to sleep, with all this. Is it still an every night occurrence?”

You nodded, “Even with the Occlumency lessons. Some are less draining than others, mainly those closest to me. It’s the ones on strangers that take the wind out of me.”

Her head tilted in another glance at the pair, “So, roughly three years. At least I’ll have graduated.” You nodded and she set the book down, “I can’t imagine being here without you.”

“You’ll do wonderfully.”

She shook her head, No, I mean, you helped get me here, into this world. All they sent me was a letter, you actually welcomed me and my parents into this world. Gave us literature on it, invited us to your homes and families. I will never forget that, and even with Ron and Harry here, I still can’t imagine being here without you. It won’t be the same.”

Weakly you giggled and said, “I can’t imagine not coming here next September. Having to let go of it, it feels almost as much home as, well, home is. I mean, what would you do?”

She shook her head, “I don’t know. I know something has to be done about the Ministry.”

You nodded and giggled, “Anyone could handle it you could.”

Softly she giggled as you did again, “I’m certain you could do a great deal more.”

Shaking your head you said, “I think it best I’m not in charge. I can enforce the rules, but making them, I doubt I could trust myself with that.”

Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor came up the following weekend. Gryffindor loses in twenty-two minutes, 240 to 230, even though they caught the snitch. A stunning yet much needed quick match in the growing storm worsening the aim of their chasers in trying to score goals against the icy winds.

2020 - 20 Facts Tag

20 random FACTS about yourself that may surprise people. Here are mine:

1. Do you make your bed? Partially. My husband and I use separate blankets (he’s like a space heater) so we both generally just straighten out our blankets so our cats and dog can sleep on our bed. But it’s not a full hospital corners tuck type deal.

2. What’s your favorite number? 13

3. What’s your job? I work as an in-house Interactive Designer for a furniture company. I manage all digital design am currently coordinating a company rebrand along with a site re-platform + redesign. It’s busy as fuck.

4. If you could, would you go back to school? I’ve been looking at getting a master’s degree in User Experience Design, but part of me is still done with college after the hell that was art school over a decade ago. I still might go back, though.

5. Can you parallel park? Not very well, and not on busy streets with lots of traffic and tight spaces.

6. A job you had which would surprise people? I worked at McDonald’s for 2 years as a teen. I was also a newspaper cartoonist for my college and I was a technical writing tutor for 3 years in college teaching freshmen and sophomores how to use Microsoft Word.

7. Do you think aliens are real? Definitely. Have they landed on Earth? Not really sure, but aliens definitely exist.

8. Can you drive a manual car? Not even a little.

9. What’s your guilty pleasure? Whenever my husband leaves me alone for a few days, I usually do 2 things: rewatch Chivalry of a Failed Knight (skipping all the sister’s-unrequited-incest scenes) and play This War of Mine (the board game).

10. Tattoos? Only 2. The Hylian crest on one wrist and the Mass Effect paragon wing symbol on the other.

11. Favorite color? Purple (like a lighter wisteria purple)

12. Things people do that drive you crazy? My biggest pet peeve is someone making you feel stupid for not knowing something. Like, you don’t know their situation, stop busting their balls for not knowing or having the same experiences as you.

13. Any Phobias? Not any full blown phobias. I really don’t like needles but I don’t faint or anything. Also gotten a little woozy about heights in my old age. Which is bullshit.

14. Favorite childhood sport? Slow-pitch softball. I was a very good pitcher. ...then fast-pitch happened and I sucked.

15. Do you talk to yourself? Only when I’m writing.

16. What movie do you adore? Drop Dead Gorgeous

17. Do you like doing puzzles? If we’re talking like 500-piece table puzzles, they’re fine. Only do them with my mother like once a year. If we’re talking like puzzles in general, I love a good video game puzzle.

18. Favorite kind of music? EDM and video game sound tracks. I like music with a good beat and minimal lyrics. Helps me work.

19. Tea or coffee? Coffee. Otherwise, coke (soda).

20. The first thing you remember you wanted to be when you grew up? I think I wanted to be a vet BECAUSE ALL LITTLE GIRLS LOVE ANIMALS. Then I wanted to be a cartoonist.

PUSH-themed ask game, magicians episodes edition!

counting the upcoming s4 finale, there are 52 episodes of the magicians- 13 each season. to celebrate (and help alleviate some of the nervous anticipation we’re all feeling right now), i thought i’d try my hand at making an ask game that focuses on appreciating all 52 weird and wonderful episodes we’ve been given.

and hey, guess how many cards there are in a single deck? that’s right, 52. you know what that means- let’s play PUSH. or, like, an adapted, digital version of it, where instead of drawing a card you have to choose between two episodes of the magicians? idk, just go with it.
