Cate anon here, you make good points. In the hours since I sent the ask I thought about it more and I think I came off way too negative. People have the capacity for change, i don’t want to deny cate or any other cc that. I really do hope that if any good comes from this, it’s cc’s realizing they made a mistake and that getting all their opinions from twitter w/o doing their own research or just saying things for brownie points isn’t a good idea, both for their mental health and their careers long term.
🫂 yeah i think theres also a discussion to be had about the immense amount of pressure to do the "right thing" because these are people's literal careers on the line (and people have had it), but i think as much as i dislike and ciritque content creators who constantly go with their audience and not think critically about situations (literally what the thing i wrote about rboo was about), its so much harder to have a spine and actually stand up for yourself/admit things aren't black and white because of 1) the culture surrounding the fandoms and 2) the complexity and nuance of real life situations that dont translate well to algorithms like twitter's that purposely exist to get a strong and radical reaction out of viewers on the platform. i also wish that people would realize the difference between bad faith interactions and people simply wanting clarity of information before they know what exactly they're supporting or condemning -- it is infinitely much more effective to communicate the exact problem and its source (and also how to fix it) rather than telling someone what NOT to support based on emotion and discouraging people to think for themselves

Another thing about antagonists in general is that they aren't always inherently bad! They're just in opposition of the protagonist! (Who isn't always good either!!) Enstars is rlly fun bcs it switches those roles around between characters and reducing a character to Just that story role is a rlly reductive way to look at the material
anon can i have your hand in marriage /j
this gets a little long... read more
YEAH! its all a matter of perspective; people tend to focus on only one perspective and forget that things aren't just as simple as this person evil this person good (in the case of enstars)
sorry everything is abt crazyb i only know bee stuff by heart 🥹butttt
honestly any story with crazy:B involved with other units (main story, night club, SS Sudden death) shows this. theyre the unit that goes against the system, that breaks the seemingly perfect but actually fucked up system. they do things wild and their own way, and are portrayed initially negatively (we are given other persoectives to see this through! like every other unit, 2wink, knights etc. so it makes sense that people initially go. yeah. these people are bad. )
but then we get it from their perspective. we learn that theres reason behind this madness, behind all the wild and antagonistic acts that they do. we learn that they're so, so human. they have their own problems, have ideals that they're getting realized in their way, not going with the flow. nothing is black and white, sure, sometimes they may do some things that people don't agree with, but ultimately there's always reason behind that;
sorry to make this about him but i've gotta. all the posts that limit rinne to just a gambling addict alcoholic with no respect for anything that would be awful just to be awful make me want to hit stuff with a rock. i think theres this one convo in main story that basically explains it so well, that one where niki and mayoi are talking. the one where niki says yeah? rinne-kun is awful and stuff at times but he's human, just like me and you. that line hit me so hard you dont understand
im like. convinced people that label rinne as only evil and scum like. difnt read mainstory 5 at all. a huge part of that mainstory was showing things from crazy:b's perspective, showing that rinne was a planner, that he planned for everything and now was shouldering all of it, ALL OF THE BLAME, saying that his unitmates had no part of it and was literally willing to LEAVE, leave behind his dream, leave behind everything so that his unitmates and hiiro and everyone else could live happily. IF YOU CAN READ THROUGH ALL OF THAT, READ THROUGH WINNER AND HAPPY END AND SEE LITERALLY HOW BROKEN RINNE IS ABOUT LEAVING BUT HES STILL DOING IT ANYWAYS BECAUSE HE LOVES EVERYONE!! BUT YOU STILL HAVE THE GALL TO SIMPLIFY HIM TO HAHA GAMBLER ALCOHOLIC MAN WHO WOULD STEAL MY WALLET AND BURN MY HOUSE DOWN i will hit you with a rock 💥🥰
it is okay to not like a character!!! it is not okay to limit them simply to aspects you find on a shallow level. better to not think about that character than at all. i am taking rinne amagi swaddling him in warm blankets and giving him hot cocoa i will defend his characterization with my god damn LIFE
sorry anon u didnt ask for this but yeah basically its all a matter of perspective and prople need to learn to respect that all of the characters at the end of the day are human and have their own nuances. be like me. dont have strong negative feelings except sopping wet /pos

eveline being a child who was never taught morals and ethan being shoved into a corner and forced to neutralize her are two statements that can and do coexist i dont know why theres this huge debate and drama going on rn. eveline isnt evil, shes 7 years old and was abused and neglected and turned into a bioweapon. she didnt do anything she did because she Wanted to, she did it because it was all she knew. she is an antagonist but she is not a villain.
However. ethan didn’t have any choice but to kill her because a) he came in way too late in the game to undo any of the damage done to her and b) he was acting mostly out of self defense. i think the problem with this argument is that the people coming to ethans defense are condemning evie to a life she never chose or asked for. she wanted love and family and she was denied that at every turn. i don’t think there’s anything ethan could have done for her, and, like—capcom wants you to hate her because they fucking suck. they didn’t write her with the intention of her being viewed as anything but an evil person which sucks because, you know, she’s fucking seven and acts like a seven year old. she’s a kid. idk man maybe instead of putting evie down you guys should inspect mia and how she fucking sucks instead. not that anyone wants to do that bc shes touted as a “”girlboss”” for being a shitty person who is actively and knowingly part of a bioterrorist organization, abuses and neglects a child, and lies to her husband ad nauseam. fuck off
the issue isn’t black and white. ethan can’t be entirely to blame for eveline’s death because his hands are tied the moment he steps foot through the door of the baker’s home. eveline only acts as she’s been taught to act. she performs the function she was ‘created’ to perform. she’s an angry seven year old. she’s a child. you can’t blame her for something out of her fucking control.
also no one called ethan a child abuser y’all are just making shit up for drama. he isn’t a child abuser but mia sure as shit is. the morals of what he had to do with evie are questionable, but at the end of the day i honestly think it comes down to capcom not giving a shit about the nuances of making their antagonist a child outside of a singular scene with jack baker. they want you to hate her. i honestly think it reflects more on capcom as a company than on ethan as a person/character just because…that’s the game mechanic. that’s how resident evil games go

I just read your mei mei meta. 100% spot on. And I honestly I think the Shonen genre for all its violence... does a disservice automatically to women. It collapses characters into black and white cararitures sometimes..... so everyone sees a person who isn't 100% altruistic as bad. We go looking for the badness and that's even more enforced with women. Also I too am horny for mei mei. I wish jjk was more sexy. I wanna see characters be outwardly horny for each other. Up the stakes!
Tumblr media
YAAAAAS preach it sister!!! Everything you said absolutely passes the vibe check- so much so i gotta break it down and expand on it 😁 (and heres to link to said mei mei meta jic)
And I honestly I think the Shonen genre for all its violence... does a disservice automatically to women. It collapses characters into black and white cararitures sometimes..... so everyone sees a person who isn't 100% altruistic as bad.
You wont find any argument here, in fact i would go as far to say most media nowadays suffer from this exact issue. But the real crux of the problem seems to lie in the lack of reader discernment. I dont know if its a subconscious or willful failure to understand "nuance", but its apparently lost to an audience that is obsessed with labeling/compartmentalizing everyone and everything to the point where they're essentially reducing characters (even actual people) to a single trope and judging them entirely on that when there are so many parts to a whole...feels bad man.
We go looking for the badness and that's even more enforced with women.
this is one of my biggest gripes- like i said on my meta, there are DEF some puritanical vibes behind the Mei Mei hate- its starting to feel insidiously sexist with the way the fandom is deadset on villainizing her because she doesnt "conform" within the norms of whats "good", and to a larger extent "good woman".
She isnt that maternal, nurturing, self sacrificial woman that reeks of patriarchal ideals therefore she must be bad.
She prioritizes money and considers a persons worth based on what benefit they bring to her as if this is the most unnatural way to be (thats the sad truth!) therefore she is greedy and selfish.
She has a "weird" relationship with her brother because their level of closeness makes them uncomfortable and therefore predatory.
And whats so funny to me is Mei Mei is- for all intents and purposes, a MERCENARY. She's not a teacher, shes not an instructor- she is a contract sorcerer for hire so money being a priority for her would be painfully obvious?? Shes not responsible for the students nor aligns herself with the politics of the jujutsu world- shes looks out for herself/get paid and this makes her evil?? Also cant help think that theres a certain type of person who feels threatened by a overly confident and shameless woman as a personal attack on themselves/their ideals and feels compelled to tear them down by any means possible, but maybe thats just me.
Idk, maybe it cant be helped when they see Nanami (whom are essentially foils of each other) willing forgo money and put his life on the line for the students but this still doesnt make her "evil" and so reductionist btw 🙄.
And to highlight the hyprocrisy of it all- if she was a man, the fandom would be slobbering all over her and if you need proof see: Toji, Geto/Kenjaku, Sukuna, even Gojo to an extent but the list goes on and on. Somehow these men get the pass and the fandom go to great lengths to humanize/emphasize with them, but the women? LOL
Also I too am horny for mei mei. I wish jjk was more sexy. I wanna see characters be outwardly horny for each other. Up the stakes!
oh honey, i am WITH you 100%!!! im not even trying to be petty, but the more the fandom hates on her the more i love her lol she is so HNGHHH, together we can make jjk sexy and outwardly horny for each other 🙌

I don’t really like Zootopia, not one bit…
I mean, I used to like Zootopia when it first came out, but I was very young and naïve at the time and I didn’t really understand (or more accurately, care to understand) the problems that plague the actual film.
And I’m not talking about how it essentially uses the same cookie-cutter plot of most Disney films at the time, nor am I talking about the shitty twist villain, Assistant Bellweather, or even the god-awful pop song, ‘try everything’ by Shakira. No, I am specifically referring to the political messaging of the film.
In a nutshell, the racism allegory of Zootopia doesn’t work because of both the mismanaged use of animal symbolism (specifically the LACK of symbolism of meaningful use of it), and the complete unwillingness on behalf of the writers to explore the nuances of racism in any way.
The concept of 'race' is really just a colonial construct just made to serve the interests of colonial powers in Europe and to justify the abhorrent actions they were doing to literally everyone else, and only has a weak connection to actual ethnicity. Like, the reason why Irish and Italians were not considered "white" back then, but are now, or how people group eastern asians as a 'seperate kind of people' than south and southestern asians because they're not brown is all the same, its made up.
And because the writers dont seem to really understand this about race (and also because theyre both white), they completely misrepresent race as a concept by depicting it as just a real and biological way that people are structured as, instead of the wibbly-wobbly bullshit that it really is, it's like how a lot of cis people like to treat the gender binary. But at the same time this supposed 'biological truth' is just pushed aside as just a slight difference, like how in the actual film, no one actually addresses what predators eat or how they actually are different.
This contradictory nature is also the reason as to why they have to 'go savage' in order to actually stir up the bullshit race war that Assistant Mayor Bellweather wanted (just because i guess? Her motives are never explained.) This movie talks about racism like its just people hating eachother for a justifiable reason that they just made up, and then bending backwards and saying that its completely nonsensical and we should just get along anyway.
I think the reason as to why this is, is because the actual writers just don't know shit about racism. They're both white, and they don't seem to make that many political stances anyway, so its safe to assume that all the nuances of systemic racism have just not stuck to them in any way, and that their understanding of it just boils down to "some people are just mean to others because their skin is brown."
Racism in real life is based on cultural ideas on how certain 'races' behave mostly in a cultural context. Theres a reason why black people often have negative stereotypes depicting them as robbers or violent rapists, or of them eating fried chicken and watermelon like animals. Because black people have a history of enslavement, followed by racist systemic oppression after the abolishment of legal slavery as an American institution. These stereotypes are bullshit, but they exist, not as a product of some innate human quality of tribalism, but as a product of a white supremacist culture. The same goes for all other 'races' too, with their own specific cultural contexts.
There's so much potential in using furry imagery to convey a political message, but what this movie does with it is to just tell a neoliberal story about a half baked racism allegory that doesn't even make a lick of sense under scrutiny

i feel like making an addendum to my post abt how i dont believe needletail was abusive; rather, i believe that she was toxic and her relationship with violetshine was unhealthy. a toxic person is not always an abusive person, though all abusive people are toxic; likewise, an unhealthy relationship isnt always abusive, but all abusive relationships are unhealthy.
i dont believe needletail necessarily wanted to control violetshine and have any power over her; i think she was too self-centered to consider violets feelings abt anything and just assumed violet would go along w her bc they were "friends." thats why she takes violet with her to the kin; not only does she believe it to be "fair," but it genuinely doesnt seem to occur to her that violet might not want to go in the first place. she knows violet likes her and wants to be around her all the time; why wouldnt she want to go with her? (this is ofc needles logic/reasoning and not mine.) and ofc violet, being the lonely, neglected kit that she is at the time, wants to go solely bc needle is going, not bc she actually wants to. but again, needle doesnt realize that bc shes too focused on herself.
needletail, for most of her life, assumes that the world revolves around her and does not show concern for other ppls feelings until its far too late. therefore, while i dont consider her to be abusive, she is definitely unhealthy and her relationship with violetshine is far, FAR from perfect. theres Nuance to them that a lot of ppl dont often consider bc fandoms in general tend to try to force morally complex characters and situations into black and white "good" or "bad" categories.

my usual problems with a "more logical death note rewrite" are usually that like, DN isnt actually particularly abt the motivations of the characters being logical, you know? light isnt killing criminals because its Objectively The Right Thing To Do, its because of his own skewed morals, its because of japan's political climate. its because when people are imprisoned theyre presumed guilty. light is the son of a cop for a reason, you know? so saying "he'd do more societal good killing rich people" is like, not the point, youre not SUPPOSED to be on kira's side and you're supposed to be able to read into his actions as Bad. theres nuance, like misa's life being saved by kira, it isnt black and white, but youre not supposed to come out the other side a kira defender.
or at least, thats how i see things.
but divorcing it from the idea that they somehow Messed Up or Made A Plothole by making the serial killer have an arbitrary moral code, and simply saying "the vague idea of someone able to instantly kill anyone anywhere in anyway, but instead they use their powers to [x other thing i think it would be fun to read about]" definitely draws me in way more. the idea of a death note IS cool(in a "fantasy object that allows for a wide range of comprlling stories" kind of way), how different people would use it for different ends IS cool, i would watch the hell out of that alternative take on some other guy who isnt yagami light with the death note
i just dont like it when its presented as a way to Fix the series. you know? cuz like it wouldnt lol

proship anon again. I'm sorry if I got a bit heated. I'm very thankful that you are a kind enough human being to say that even despite being vehemently against those types of content, you still don't condone the harassment of people who create it. honestly I'm really glad to hear it.
I think myself and lot of other proshippers who do engage with these things in a completely online space tend to feel like we are constantly in danger because of the current social media client. I personally was "called out" as a pedophile when I was only 17, literally just because I said it wasn't okay to harass people who make dark/problematic content. so like. I'm sure you can sort of see where I'm coming from.
I guess the way I see it is that at the end of the day if an actual, literal pedophile can get their fill of that kind of thing in a way that is entirely fictional and in no way harms real life children, I would prefer that they have that as a substitute to the horrible alternative. I can't claim to understand how that sort of person's mind works but like. idk. I am aware of how insane this sounds I hope you understand what I'm trying to get at here.
anyway I don't want to get into it more, it's tiring for me to talk about, too. I'm really sorry I came at you like that, I'm just kind of like. frustrated that my friends and I who I know would never hurt anyone are getting lumped in with criminals and abusers. it sucks. I don't think there's one entirely right answer. I just wish the whole thing was handled with nuance, and very much to your credit, you do handle the situation with nuance, so thank you.
again, I apologize for bringing this upsetting topic back into your inbox again. I won't send any more messages about it. I hope you have a really nice day <3
oh its totally fine!! thank you for your kind words!!
and yes, i can understand where youre coming from. its a bit unfortunate that this whole debate is handled in such a black and white fashion when theres so many factors at play. like we've been over, people who actively engage on the side of "antis" tend to be teens. often times they know that something is wrong, and as theyre getting older they feel like they need to take more action /against/ what they think is wrong. i sincerely believe alot of it is out of good intent, and that they think theyre doing the right thing, but when youre 14 youre not very likely to have much grasp on the whole picture. you just see something bad and want to put a stop to it. the drive is admirable, but the execution can unfortunately become inhumane
i dont have a solution for any of this. i dont know what the best approach is. but thats why i at least wish to give people room to speak and to genuinely listen to whats on their mind (at least when it comes to fandom discourse and not like. unfiltered bigotry). i feel like genuinely talking things over and explaining ones side is the least we can do if we wish to remain civil and empathetic to one another, because at the end of the day my main principle is just not wanting people to get hurt. thats my core desire
we may disagree, but i hope you have a good day too! and stay safe out there!!

That anon is such a jackass. There’s all levels of financially struggling and you aren’t all of a sudden banned from complaining about being in a financially insecure position just because you buy yourself an item, or are gifted an item, which is costly. I bought myself a (second hand) bass guitar + amp at one of the most financially devastating points in my life — I pawned a ton of items for it, but I got it. Was also homeless at that stage too! Does that mean I wasn’t poor? Getting items which aren’t “necessary” for survival reflects nothing upon your financial situation — point blank. And people who are poor shouldn’t be expected to never buy ANYTHING for oneself that aides in happiness and enjoyment; that idea is so toxic. We aren’t NOT poor because we get a luxury item. And we aren’t in financially unstable situations because we buy one off luxury items either. All of these ideas are ridiculous & aren’t a reflection of reality whatsoever. I hope you’re enjoying your guitar and I hope it’s bringing you some happiness, and you shouldn’t be expected to explain yourself or your financial situation to people who lack any understanding of the facts and who want to turn poverty into a competition
my loveee my angellll❤️❤️ you are astoundingly Correct as usual and you worded this so perfectly! i know what they were getting at but yeah it's just such a weird vibe to police ppls financial situations like that. feel like all nuance was lost for a second and i was supposed to feel bad for not being in a worse position than i'm already in. i totally agree btw theres varying degrees of financial insecurity and i've never claimed mine is anything other than what it is sooo i mean idk what i was supposed to say or do!
also yeah like the whole "Poor people need to be saving and scrimping absolutely all of their money and live lives devoid of joy just to get by" narrative is a tired one to say the least. i don't think not getting a birthday gift would drastically improve my future financial prospects in any tangible way and it's weird to suggest otherwise, like oddly guilt trippy. like when capitalists say the reason young ppl cant afford houses is because of completely arbitrary purchases we make? i do understand that anons confusion and anger, but i think it's caused by their own black and white perspective more than anything. mwah mwah im giving you the biggest hug ever rn <3 hope ur in a better spot money-wise btw, you deserve the world. thank u thank u! ❤️❤️

honestly part of the reason i love the scorn so much is because of the way they parallel the guardians to some degree, dead creatures brought back to life by some mystical power, serving the one who brought them back. fikrul never had bad intentions he just served the man who saved his life and that man was corrupted and fikrul just cared for his siblings as shown in his battle dialogue not to mention what kaniks tells us in his battle and while yes some of the barons, most notably pirrha, reksis vahn, & araskes are terrible, that doesnt reflect all of the scorn & looking at all this in such a black & white way (they killed cayde therefore all scorn are evil) is just so boring when theres so much nuance that could be found but the scorn are so often discarded as the enemies in forsaken because cayde's death was so front and center no one bothered to give a shit about the scorn unlike witch queen which did the same thing, bringing up an enemy type that is just like us, but without the cayde death & the revenge story wq was allowed to focus on the morality whereas in forsaken it only feels superficial unless you actually look into it and i just want to say. scorn season right now

The funniest thing about hating Rhaegar is his stans assuming we love Robert and then they begin arguing how he was an abuser and a pos as if we don't know lol. Hating Rhaegar and Robert is not mutually exclusive. It reminds me of takes like if you love Jon, how can you love Catelyn? 🤦🤦 People need to stop living through characters I beg. Liking/disliking certain characters based on who your favorite character likes/dislikes is NOT normal behaviour.
The amount of Rhaegar stans who jump on you like OH YOU LOVE ROBERT HUH like okay lets take it back friends and show me where we said that.
Now, I am a bit biased because I do rather like the Baratheons in general but I am the first to pick those grown ass men up by the scruff of their necks and hold them up over a cliffs edge telling them that they're asses are gonna get dropped into the sea unless they smarten up.
Like yes Rhaegar stans, Robert is a piece of shit. But the reasons Lyanna did not want to marry him was because he was a womanizer whom already had bastards and she knew he was not a man who would be faithful or respectful to her. (My personal headcanon is that Lyanna was not interested in marriage at all but thats only my personal speculation).
Robert didn't even mistreat her, because he did not know her. She didn't want to marry him because she knew, she as a wife, was in for a life of a husband prone to massive infidelity, something any reasonable 14-15 year old girl would object to. And we have no way of knowing if he would have mistreated her the way he does Cersei. How he treats Cersei is absoutely horrible and abusive, but the circumstances of their marriage DO play a part in the manner which they mutually mistreat each other in different ways. Theres no real evidence that Robert would treat Lyanna as horribly, we can only say for sure, he would have been insultingly unfaithful and Lyanna would have at the least still been miserable.
So their assumption that Lyannas life with Robert would've looked just like Cersei's is wrong. Cersei's life also is played due in part that most of her family do not care about her well being. She was mistreated and miserable and no one cared. Lyannas family all cared about her deeply. The Starks are all very close and protective, so the idea that Ned would stand by and allow Robert to treat his SISTER that way is to say Ned views Cersei exactly in the same level of respect he does his little sister, which is wrong.
In Lyanna vs Robert in Neds eyes, Lyanna wins. We know this. He keeps Lyannas secret from Robert half their lives which could be a secret considered treason. Ned chooses Lyanna, and would not actualy let her be treated by Robert the way he sees Robert treat Cersei. Also by the time Ned sees the extent of his marriage to Cersei it is far too late to intervene meaningfully and thus he does nothing because by this point there is nothing he can do.
In fact, Ned while still going to tell Robert the truth, extends mercy to Cersei and all but begs her to take her children and run as far away from Robert as they can. Ned defies Robert by telling Cersei to spare her and her childrens lives by running before it's too late. Something which again, could be considered treason once Robert knows the truth.
Robert has MANY problems, and ironically, the show is actually the version of the story that handles this better. Robert in the show is still not a good person, but he has so much more layers and nuance to make him less black and white unlikable. This version of Robert you can actually understand what about him does Ned like and why other people still care about him. Its a rare example of an adaptation improving something from the books.
But Book Robert just sucks. We all know that. He sucks. No one likes Book Robert not even Baratheon fans like me.
But because Rhaegar stans depend on Rhaeyla for their characterization of Lyanna, they can ONLY imagine an opposite where it is Robert and Lyanna because their views of her depend on her in a romance. They don't see her as an individual character who probably wanted nothing to do with either Robert or Rhaegar.
In my personal opinion, Lyanna did not want to marry any man, and probably hadn't even considered if she wanted children. Since the earliest we know anything substantial of her is the Knight of the Laughing Tree, which is a story that tells me shes still just an adventurous girl who wants to see what the more exciting parts of life can offer her. And while dreading one marriage, she was kidnapped and forced into an even worse scenario with an even worse man and died because of it.
Like, at the very least, Roberts side of the war was partially fighting to save her life. Rhaegar fought the side of the war that led her trapped on the other side of the country, almost dying alone in a bed of her own blood.
There no nuance here with these people. They don't see Lyanna outside of Rhaelya and thus they are obsessed with proving that Robert was worse then him even though most discussions about Lyanna have nothing to do with Robert in the first place.
But to be clear, Rhaegar is worse then Robert. They both suck, but Rhaegar is still worse because at least Robert never kidnapped and raped a 15 year old girl which started a war and ended in her death.
The only reason its easier to dunk on Robert is because he was still alive when we met him at the start of the series. A lot easier to shit on a character when we directly followed their actions before they died.

Hey Noa, before you answer this ask, if its much more safer for you to answer vaguely. Then it is your right and i wont feel any sadness towards it.
But i just want to say, you reblogging the post of a jewish person who is concerned about the antisemitism because of the way people talk about israel. And how because of it, theres alot of jewish people that got harrashment from this. Helps me alot on realizing how complicated truly is the israel and palestina war. I have been scrolling throught the person blog and other jewish blog to learn more from their perspective, and just wow. I learn alot thats all i can say. And yes, this is coming from the person who have been learning about antisemitism for probably a long time.
I just want to say you are the person that made me open my eyes on how antisemistic people can be because of this. So truly thank you. Because if not for you i would genuinely fall into doom scrolling and propaganda that has been out there.
You are the person that made me talk openly with my peers about how we need to becareful on how we talk about the genocide that is happening, and to keep being kind to muslim and jewish people that are affected from the harrashment and propaganda from this politics.
You are the person that made me realize when talking about politics to my friend that there is nuance to everything. You are the person that made me much more kind and keep myself level headed when talking about this situations.
Im not much an activist online, because of how easily misinformation can just be talked about here. But im always loud about it in real life, because of how open minded my friends are, its nice to open discussion about this in real life rather than talk about it on online and having to deal with stranger with black and white thinking.
So truly this really long ask, is just a thank you for opening my eyes. You are a kind and good person to have done this to me. And genuinely i am so happy to have more knowledge about this because of you.
So truly thank you.
Hey anon, it took my ages to reply to your message and for that I apologize. It meant a lot to me that you send this to me.
I am so so grateful that you took the time to learn more and I am really honored that I could help you with that. I am not an expert on anything, neither on antisemitism nor on Islamophobia or racism. But I want people to feel safe on my blog and I want them to know that they are welcome and loved.
So, truly, it is so good to hear that you found something on my blog that made you learn more and look into things more and talk to people about it.
Thank you for being here. I hope your 2024 will be wonderful. Your message genuinely is one of my favorite messages I got here.

Problem with antis or people that have a similar behaviour is that they are separating the world into white/black, right/wrong but strangely enough can't do the same for fiction/real life. Problem being that when it comes to fiction, there is no moral at all, no right, nor wrong. For something to be moral or not it need to exist in the first place and any of the "immoral" situation in fiction is literaly a simulation since nothing happened but in our head. In fiction, everything is interpretation. The only thing that makes an interpretation superior to other is : how close is it to what the text says, aka to the canon ? Literal interpretation aren't the true or real one since no matter what the canon says, none of this was real to begin with, but it simply is more accurate to a textual reading. The anti however, are trying to apply real life standards to something that is entirely depending on comprehension and interpretation, even at it's lowest form of simply understanding what the text says. And that's without even entering the "every situation needs to be sort of nuanced" but it seems obvious that someone screaming on the internet about a drawing/fanfic they dislike don't seems at least aware of the methology in the science of morality.
Honestly, at this point whoever wants fiction to 1:1 with reality morals need to open a dictionary because fiction is precisely made to be DIFFERENT from reality.
putting these two together since they allude to the same stuff. I just wanna note that i've been getting a lot of posts about basically the same thing here but havent been answering them cause i didnt feel i had much to say.
and i still dont, but id figure i should say something about it. only that well i am happy to complain about antis i do find the notion of 'reality and fiction are different' somewhat aggravating if only the analytical sense because reality always influences fiction and creative work even if in only subtle manners. in that sense separating the two completely is a lot like telling someone to 'turn their brain off', something im not entirely opposed against [it can be fun] but which i firmly do not use when analyzing creative work.
theres a point when bringing reality into our understanding of the work becomes detrimental mind, im not saying this is a binary things its a spectrum. just... ya know. if im gonna shit on someone its gonna be because their opinion is stupid itself.
like the only manner in which we can firmly say fiction and reality are different is that fiction firmly enters into that space of 'the make believe' well reality is firmly in the space of what we can empirically see.

interesting thoughts... and sorry if im replying scarily fast, this whole thing is being spurred by an all-nigher (unusual for me). the question of whether the problems i face in my life are this horrible woe in need of immediate addressing or just me blowing things out of proportion and creating fake problems by thinking to hard is something i consider a lot, and i feel like it makes me take myself both too seriously and trivialize my own problems at the same time. i think im generally well-adjusted (no like, trauma-based mental illness, and i am fairly happy in life even when im going through stressful situations) and constantly moving towards a better handling of myself/my problems, and this contemplation is just another step in that process. like, is my current "solution" the best one, or do i keep looking? the private journal was a recent invention, and ive been enjoying it, besides when it gets tangled in attention-seeking patterns, though its fine usually
sharing meta and opinions is an interesting suggestion... its another way ive seen people i admire gain more prominence in the eyes of an audience of strangers (still not something im sure i should pursue, but on the other hand i realize that i need to accept that as a creator my goal is going to be tied to getting the attention of others and that its a fine motivation as long as its not all-consuming). i generally keep my interests to private spaces, and if i have anything more lengthy to say i kind of guiltily squirrel it away where less people will see it. i guess its interesting to think of new ways i can interact with the resources i have available to me (blogs etc). i do have a letterboxd, but i find i use it more for my own utility than as a social media
going on my own tangent, one of the ways id really like to connect with an audience is to create some kind of story that people can consume, but the more i work on it the further back being able to put something finished out gets. i know i could start small, like comics and short stories, but theres a lot of work that needs to go on in my brain and with my habits before i feel ready. soon ill hopefully have much more time to introspect and work on my craft to address that. interesting thoughts... and sorry if im replying scarily fast, this whole thing is being spurred by an all-nigher (unusual for me). the question of whether the problems i face in my life are this horrible woe in need of immediate addressing or just me blowing things out of proportion and creating fake problems by thinking to hard is something i consider a lot, and i feel like it makes me take myself both too seriously and trivialize my problems
also- curious about this special interest you mention. is it art, or psychology, or specifically the intersection between these things?
-
your uncertainty upon, "am i minimizing or exaggerating my problems" is not a question i can answer. however, i can (attempt to!) reassure you that both of these are genuine problems of their own right, and worth your time and attention.
for the first - minimizing - "how can i respect myself better? why am i so inclined to 'shrinking' my problems?" and the latter, exaggerating, "how can i identify a serious problem? why do i routinely make mountains out of molehills" - and nuance exists here, you seem to be aware of that. there are situations wherein i, myself, 'crunch' my issues (because i do not have the time, capacity, to resolve said pain) or 'heavy' them (because i feel it so badly, i need to be comforted, i need to gain Attention for my pain) - and when curled upon ourselves, we struggle.
'simple,' 'easy,' 'digestible' - that's why we, the Royal we as humans, lean towards black/white thinking. to comprehend entirely is to feel so, so much pain and in such convoluted ways - the body's anatomy is pictured as interconnecting lines, and the planetary system is drawn interconnected. this is not reality. humanity, whether in history or in our skeletons below bodily functions, do not exist independently nor in neat, orderly, if/then interactions. there is no, 'closest planet,' because that is not how orbits work. but, to Understand, we curtail.
if a sounding board - to know 'The Truth,' or at least the closest next-best-thing - a social worker could help in a "i got a degree for this!" sense, rather than the extreme of Going to Therapy. i, personally, see both a social worker and a therapist. but, in my previous ask, i anecdote'd my self-taught practice through DBT /CBT worksheets, scientific essays & reports, and checklists/criteria for my concerns. self-help books are a marketable alternative; '50 tips to boost self-esteem' with a cute cover is an easier sell than, 'a study of [x] people over the scope of [x] years, symptoms and recovery' you know…?
therapy also comes with the - how to say this - 'expectation' is not the right word, but generally, there is a 'recovery plan,' - lifelong therapy is unwelcome, and you (royal you) are to be Un-checkmarked. that's why i am not - GO TO THERAPY - bc it's not my place to say so, and there is a lot of implied stress to exit upon 'completion of services,' - …it ignores the complicated reality, too, of insurance, transportation, whatever… for me, information thru SCIENCE! was a key developmental stage, and i rarely see that sort of recommendation.
although. i. i brought up mental illness i-in metaphor, i apologize if i appeared to be… Diagnosing you… [DUCKS HEAD, APOLOGETIC] just, i've seen that 'GO TO THERAPY' is the first recc people give. And I think it is Silly, dismissive, and quite often in bad faith. i am merely detailing my own experiences & self-improvement re: my struggles of (therapy-adverse) mental illness, in the hope that it is either related to on Some level, or ignites curiosity in self-improvement for you.
I. Due to the. Underdevelopment and all, I struggle w/ (blanking on how to say this, too) being comprehensible. I don't speak 'flowery,' I have an above-decent grasp on grammar whether Prose-Proper or Internet-Proper, but my intellectual disability means I perceive language in a way that isn't 1:1. I am regularly misunderstood, whether it be the definitions of the words I'm using, or my intent.
with that the bulk of 'how 2 help' is over - back to art!
mm i write at turtle-speed so i can… Sympathize, with the mismatch of 'time' and 'creation,' I've had to accept that I cannot match my hand to my thought process. Somewhere, and recently, I've sighed that a machine cannot pluck my tactile-formed sentences and prose and unfurl it into writing…
(I don't actually hear voices - I 'shape' things, mentally. i.e Letters are created through hand motions; I can't translate the sentences from thought to text, because I can't realize what they are, either. I'm blind to the things I think, beyond a vague conclusion. This is why my art is so… strange…? and unreal. My art is how I perceive reality.)
'practice, practice, practice,' bluh. I hate it - It's true. The method to write/create faster is through practice - but, how can you practice, if you cannot even start…?! A quick (not necessarily a PERFECT) beta may be of help - someone to prod you, or edit what is existing.
…and matching with an editor can be, just as hard, as creation itself…..
ah, the special interest. I like, brain abnormalities, which branches into the body itself. I'm fascinated with its functions, which is why I begun to ramble on about the nervous system and why I said that, rather than the e- [cuts myself off]
