having a moment. but when i was little and first getting into writing stories and drawing characters i always used to make every single character white, strange when you consider that im literally black but much less strange when you realize that at that point in the early 2000s i had never before seen a black person play a hero in something i loved or see a black person on tv with an actual role period (me and my sister used to see how long we could watch tv without ever seeing a black person, INCLUDING ads and it would go on for hours) so to little me, all the heroes were white. things slowly got better and i obviously got over that idea but still most roles i saw a black person play on tv was the sassy best friend of the white protagonist who existed only to be a sidekick or anything like that. but this is the first year ive actually felt like things were actually looking up.

between spiderverse, doctor who, and percy jackson i have never seen so many widely loved protagonist roles in mainstream media held by black people ever before in my life, ESPECIALLY by dark-skin people!! and they're well written! and they're the hero! and they have full lives outside of just being "the black character"! idk man it's just nice to finally get this, i love u miles morales, i love u the 15th doctor, i love u annabeth chase <333

The family shopping trip to purchase a coffin scene has got me dying and kicking my feet it's so funny. Because the minute the funeral director gets suspicious over their reasoning for buying Claudia's coffin (shoutout to Louis saying they wanted to get her used to the thought of going home to god asdfgjk) you can see his internal monologue go "oh for fucks sake, why couldn't you just sell us the damn coffin, you had to make it harder for yourself huh?" 

His murder is bad™️ rhetoric flies straight out the window, he runs to draw the curtain and is like well sucks to be you but if my daughter wants that coffin, that coffin she will have and willingly leaves him to the mercy of his bloodthirsty husband. For all his I want to my keep my humanity, be a different kind of vampire the glimpses where you see he's just as messy as Lestat and Claudia are *delicious*. Him being a completely hypocritical bitch whose fiercely protective of his family but isn't against compromising his 'morals' when it's in his favour is so satisfying. Especially when you take into consideration how this family unit allows him to be mostly free in his love for Lestat and to have the child he never thought he would, adds another deep layer to it.

Because yes, it's easy to say Lestat's toxic, he's mean, uncaring, selfish etc because against Louis it may come off in a more obvious way so far (although Mr Unreliable Narrator.. cough, cough) his real motives are mostly buried under mountains of unsaid trauma and  sometimes he's just a cunt!  But like there's a reason why they're in love with each other, Louis said it himself he was never Lestat's victim, and seeing him unleash his selfish and toxic side is so much fun personally because you get to see why they fit. They're terrible people whose punishment quite frankly should be having to put up with each other for eternity because no one else would.

if the monologue was mlevens’ idea of “good communication” they need to actually reflect on how they view relationships and what they consider enough resolution to a conflict...because wdym a situation where only one side of the relationship is actually talking while the other is physically restrained and unable to respond to them and the one talking isn’t even sure if the other can hear them is a demonstration of the two properly communicating with each other 😭

all it took was one painting and a beautiful monologue for will byers to make mike wheeler feel more loved than he’s ever felt in his entire life. and although what i wrote above wasn’t what he said exactly, it was everything he was thinking. because will has always loved mike for who he is. it doesn’t matter that he’s a nerd. will is a nerd too! they went through the same struggles growing up and they’ve always shared the same interests. that’s why there’s so much understanding. that’s why they feel safe with each other and why they can actually be themselves without being fake. but it’s heartbreaking that mike doesn’t realise will was talking about his own feelings in the van because THAT is what gave him strength and made him say “i love you”. seriously, no one else has ever made mike feel loved the way that will did in that scene, and that’s exactly why they can’t leave this storyline unresolved. mike’s current relationship is unhealthy, there’s so much miscommunication and misunderstanding and he only said “i love you” because of a lie and because he was forced and pressured into it. he feels inferior and insecure (and so does el) and they don’t feel like equals. it’s not good for either of them. also, will can’t suffer anymore after everything he’s been through.

anyone who can’t see that mike and will have the closest, strongest and most genuine relationship on the entire show clearly isn’t paying attention or simply don’t want to admit it. it’s always been THEM. they were each other’s FIRST friend. they are each other’s safe place. the show started with them. most of the other characters wouldn’t have even met if it weren’t for them. mike’s current relationship would’ve been over if it weren’t for will giving him strength and making him feel loved. they need each other. they understand each other better than anyone else. their relationship has always been different to everyone else’s. mike and will are the heart of this show. they belong together and they deserve to be happy after everything they’ve been through.
