Woe, Boypussy Be Upon Ye: Transing Characters in Fanfic & Fanart
What’s the deal with envisioning your blorbos as transgender?
Originally published in Prism & Pen. Also on my Patreon.
Tumblr media
It’s a meme, I made it. Here it is.
It’s been unbelievably positive for me as a trans dude, the change in approach to trans characters in fandom and subsequently in media in general, and I just wanted to write a bit about my experiences with the cultural shift and how positive it’s been for me personally.
What’s weird about people in fandom confidently, nay casually, writing characters as transgender and just having them be a regular dude with a pussy or a regular girl with a dick is that like… I remember when it wasn’t a thing.
Back in 2009, for example, which was a big time for fandom — Superwholock was running rampant, Star Trek (2009) had just gotten a new generation of fans into Trek — or even in 2012, when Les Misérables (2012) had dropped and gotten new people into Les Mis, or when the Hobbit had revamped a lot of interest in Tolkien’s books and the original Lord of the Rings films, not to mention The Hobbit itself, none of this even getting into the Marvel movies, like…
It just. It wasn’t a thing.
Sure, there were transgender characters around, characters that people wrote as trans, but I remember it so strongly as being very niche. It was deep, emotional work where people had to work to “justify” the emotional work they were doing, and even then, they couldn’t just say a character was trans and be chill about it. In order to justify a character being transgender, one had to put in mountains of evidence, or admit the trans perspective was a genderbend of sorts.
For me, I’m pretty sure the moment when things started to change was when I was reading and writing a lot of Loki-centred fanfiction, roundabout 2014–2017 — and the more permissive culture was very much borne of Loki being seen as an exception.
Loki, of the Marvel film and comics, is an alien secretly kidnapped and adopted into the Odinson family, and is known to change his body and appearance frequently, including changing his apparent gender or expression.
He was, in the comic canon (not to mention the original Norse mythologies) quite genderfluid, after all, so even if you didn’t refer to him as explicitly transgender, you could explore him as being some variety of genderfluid, nonbinary, or intersex — as an alien, as a Jötnar as opposed to being AEsir like Thor or Odin, as a god.
But then things changed a bit more.
Welcome to Night Vale, a weird narrative horror podcast, started in 2012, and one thing you could rely on from a lot of fanfics is that people might have weird or alien or otherwise not-not cisgender but not entirely cisgender genitals either. The Magnus Archives, also a narrative horror podcast, started in 2016, and when I got into the fandom in roundabout 2019, which is also when the new Good Omens TV show was due to release and there was a resurgence of interest in the book as well, I remember experiencing a sort of newfound thing where like…
I’d had a mental block around writing many trans characters, before — I could create my own characters who were trans, but a big part of me still felt like I wasn’t allowed to just make a canon character trans if they’d never been mentioned as being trans before or made explicitly trans.
What was it that stopped me?
My own dysphoria? Perhaps a little. Maybe some lacking self-confidence.
Most of all, it just felt as though I couldn’t justify it. I couldn’t justify seeing a cis man written by cis people in a cis show and saying, “Hey, no, he’s like me, actually” — even though I could easily do it about the same character being gay or Jewish or even chronically ill or disabled.
It was like there was a mental block inside me I just couldn’t get past.
I still had a lot of the old online cultural expectations stamped onto me, I think, even being an out trans man who knew many many other trans and intersex and nonbinary people of every gender imaginable in fandom.
I think for Welcome to Night Vale and then especially for The Magnus Archives, part of what made it so easy for people to write and envisage different characters as trans, the fact that there was such limited physical description of characters, the fact that you were attached to them by their voices alone, allowed people to envisage them in whatever way they liked.
In The Magnus Archives, most of the main characters are envisaged as trans in one way or another — Daisy Tonner particularly is explored with all flavours of butch dykey complexity, trans in whichever ways or directions are juiciest and most interesting. But for so many of the characters — from Jonathan Sims and Martin Blackwood to Sasha James and Tim Stoker to Elias Bouchard to Peter Lukas to any of the other Entities — there is no end to the characters people will explore or envisage as trans or nonbinary or just straight-up outside of gender or gender-weird.
No one has to justify a period character being trans with no problems. Loads of people write Izzy Hands or Stede Bonnet or Edward Teach, as being trans in Our Flag Means Death alongside the canonic nonbinary character Jim Jimenez. Any and all characters, trans or otherwise, are invited to participate in ye olde top surgery performed by Roach, the ship’s surgeon, or somehow get hold of ye olde hormones in whatever handwavy way necessary, and it’s cool and fine.
And what’s wonderful for me is the way I see the current approach to trans characters gleefully and delightedly applied to fandoms that are years if not decades old.
I see people write House MD fanfic now where they just go, right from the beginning, yeah this or that character is trans, and they’ve always been trans, and it’s chill. What if James Wilson was trans? It’d rock, that’s what. What if Greg House was trans? Yeah, he’d probably do his own T-shots under the table.
People write Spock as trans now, or guys from M*A*S*H, or Jean Valjean.
What if in the X-Files Dana Scully and Fox Mulder were T4T? Makes complete sense, and also, the idea fucks absolutely. They’re already so lesbian vibes for each other, it fits perfectly.
I wrote a silly little Tumblr post a few weeks ago envisioning Morticia and Gomez Addams as T4T, and it blew up immediately — I think about how if I’d made that most a decade ago it would have been met with crickets, if not a bit of scorn, and not just from transphobes, but just people who like me at that time hadn’t been able to relax and have fun with it.
That’s the real crux of the matter, the impact a lot of fandom has made on me and the way that trans characterisation is approached, the hunger I have for trans characterisation now — it’s the idea of being trans as joyful and delightful, as inherently fun and sexy, but also just as being something every day and normal. A detail you can include as casually in your interpretation of a canon character as any other headcanon.
There’s a beautiful freedom in it, and I’m so grateful to have been able to learn from and grow because of other trans people paving the way with their confident headcanons and delving into trans ideas in their fic.
It’s done wonders for me everywhere — not just in my fanfic, but most of all in the original works I pen now, each one of them featuring trans character after trans character.

Les Mis meets Black Sails + Robin Hood in Sailing by Orion’s Star (The Constellation Trilogy, #1), out TODAY!
In the 18th century West Indies, stories hold the ultimate power. Sailors spin yarns about pirates. Newspapers tell tales full of half-truths. Myths spread like whispered wildfire.
East India Company sailor Nicholas Jerome has no patience for pirates, determined to leave his father's thieving past behind. After a convict and an enslaved woman escape his grasp with the aid of an aristocrat's mysterious wife, he faces one last chance to save his career. Finding an unexpected home with a new crew, he gains a chosen younger brother in René Delacroix, the son of his wealthy captain and the grandson of Jamaica's cruel governor.
But there's a storm brewing in the Delacroix household. For René and his best friend Frantz, the Robin Hood tales about legendary pirate Ajani Danso and his famed female quartermaster are a lifeline amidst the governor's abuse. Danso robs greedy merchants, frees slaves, and shelters queer sailors, inspiring the downtrodden across the New World.
When death and betrayal shatter the lives they knew, René and Jerome each face a choice: obey, or rebel.
A war for history's favor begins, and as an uprising against colonialism erupts on the ocean, everyone must choose a story to believe in.
You can order here (paperback or e-book from several retailers) or here (for readers outside the US who want to order a paperback from a non-Amazon retailer).

I’ve spent a long time thinking about what this cover would look like, and I honestly could not be more pleased with this. Truly, it is a dream cover. I want to give a special shout out to the Les Mis fandom, who have been with me on this project since its very early days, when I didn’t know what it would be. <3

Do you like Les Mis, Black Sails, Robin Hood tales, queer pirates, found families and epics? Paperback pre-orders for Sailing by Orion’s Star (The Constellation Trilogy, #1) are live! Release is set for 4/26.
Amazon
Barnes & Noble
Book Depository (Sometimes if you’re using Chrome the cover doesn’t pop up, so if you don’t see it, it is the right listing and you can still pre-order! The cover has popped up on all other browsers)
Bookshop (US friends, if you haven’t used this website before, you can choose a digital “storefront” for participating indie bookstores, and they will profit off the sale. If you’re near the DC area, I tend to choose Kramer’s or East City Books. And hey, if enough folks buy from particular indies, maybe they’ll consider stocking it in store!)
International friends: you should be able to buy paperbacks from Amazon if it’s available in your country, and Book Depository (above) ships to something like 160 countries (The UK, pretty much all of Europe, some parts of Asia and South America, etc.)
Interested in e-books? I have those too! You can get it on Kindle, Kobo, Nook, and others. (Kobo is easy for international folks!)

The 2012 Les Mis movie surely has its issues, but god, that transition from Stars to Look Down (Paris) is just *chef’s kiss*

My #1 post of 2022
Okay so here’s the thing. If I see one more “who cares about historical accuracy in a historical piece of media” I am truly going to lose my entire mind. I’m not asking for TOTAL accuracy down to the detail (I don’t strive for that, and things should connect with a modern reader) but I AM asking that books and shows and movies ENGAGE WITH THE PERIOD THEY’RE SUPPOSEDLY SET IN. The new Persuasion is just the newest (and one of the most egregious) instances of this, but I’ve seen this sentiment a lot, recently. If you don’t care about historical stuff, then why create or engage with historical media? The goal should not be to “modernize” historical fiction, but to create and engage with more diverse historical media. Different settings and periods! More stories about queer and BIPOC folks! Historical fiction has so so much to offer without stripping it of all historical context. I’m tired.

"He is a man who lives, breathes, eats, sleeps, and would die for justice, in the form of the law."
I'm a huge Les Mis fan, in case you didn't know, and Javert is one of my favourite character ever.
Sooo I wanted to do some fanarts. The first one is my own fanon version, with all my little HC in it, and the second one is an attempt to get closer to the canon Javert.
Actually, I love both equally, and I think my favourite version would be a sort of mix of these two...
Anyway, I'm super fond of the fact that Javert could be romani-looking. Like, Victor Hugo never said anything about his skin colour and stuff, but we do now that his mother was a fortune teller, so I guess it's not against the canon ! Considering Javert's character, I think it's a really interesting point of view.
I've been reading some fanfictions lately and some of them were elaborating this hypothesis, like this is why Javert isn't a commissary even if he's already 52 and really efficient. Or that this is the reason why he's chosen to go undercover ; since he looking like a tzigane, or at least a bit, it could be easier for him to disappear, etc. And I love this !! Really, really interesting, like I said before.
Well, tell me if you like this ! I hope you do :) I'm really glad Tumblr is a place where I can speak a bit about my HC on fandoms that aren't that popular on other social media~

10 Questions Meme
I was tagged by both @its-sixxers and @dangernoodleofhell thank you both!!
Rules: Answer these questions, then create 10 new ones and tag 10 people. Since I was tagged twice, I’ll answer all the questions in this post, that way I only have to think of 10 questions instead of 20. Hah!
Questions from @its-sixxers
1. If you could have any kind of art, what would you get? Honestly? There’s some pretty dope ass Fallout fanart out there being sold on etsy, and if I had the money I would totally buy them and plaster them all over my apartment.
2. What’s your favorite MET gala outfit? I have never seen the MET gala, actually, so I don’t know!
3. If you never had to worry about rules or practicality/upkeep, what kind of hair would you have? I’d keep my same haircut, it’s shorter than a pixie, but longer than a military cut. I’m growing it out right now, but that’s mostly because of all the upkeep.
4. Who’d you have a celebrity crush on as a preteen? (If you’re aro/ace or didn’t have one - what band were you obsessed with?) I was in love with Samwise from Lord of The Rings, him and Aragon. Do they count? Lol.
5. Did you ever follow an embarrassing fad/trend? I was kinda scene in high school - dark clothes, lots of bracelets, that kind of thing, so yeah...
6. Favorite musical (If you hate musicals you are free to rant about how terrible they are here)? Les Mis or Hamilton.
7. First social media you remember using (Could be forums, BBS, whatever)? There was a site called my Yearbook that I had for a while until new ownership took over and made it a dating site.
8. Most nostalgic piece of media? Princess Bride. I love it, and it always makes me safe, like I’m a kid again.
9. Favorite outdoor activity? Soccer. I played for 11 years and loved it so much.
10. Do you have a guilty pleasure? Not really? I guess writing Fanfic, since it’s not something I share with most people I know IRL.
///
@dangernoodleofhell‘s questions
1.Is there a especial meaning behind your username or just keysmashed? Not really? My first one was Tords-Girl and it was for Eddsworld, but this one is just??? Fanciful? Idk man.
2.You can cancel 1 (ONE) person. For good. Who do you choose? My dad’s wife.
3. A skill you have and no one expected it? I am really fucking good at Beatsaber on the oculus quest.
4.How are you keeping sane while the plague ravages the earth? Mostly. I had already planned on doing literally nothing at all for the month of March, since I just left my last job and needed some recoup time. But now I can’t apply for the job I’ve been waiting for because of the Pause and I’m a little stir crazy.
5.Favorite comfort drink/food? Hot cheetos for food. Peppermint tea with hella sugar for drink.
6.One of your OCs just became real, how fucked are you and the rest of the world? I closed my eyes and pointed at my list of OC, and I pointed at Liam Harper. He’s an ex-courser from the Institue who escaped and ran to the Railroad for a memory wipe. Too bad it fails and he’s trapped between two different memories of the same life. This turns him pretty violent as he copes with his collapsing mind... so as long as you stay away from him you’re probably fine.
7.It’s there a thing/trend you like but it’s labled as “cringe”? Fanfic? Hah! But no, not really? I do listen to Minecraft and other videogame parody songs, but that’s pretty lowkey.
8.Do you make any kind of research before write/draw/create something? How much? Not at all! I just... write. I usually do an outline, just word vomit all over the place. I’ll do minor research if it’s something I’m not familiar with, but I mostly write what I know.
9.You can live in any book/show/movie universe. Which will be (Fan content counts too)? I would die right away, but Fallout 4. I’d totally love to meet all my favorites in real life. That or The 100, shit is crazy and I’d love to experience it first hand.
10. Aren’t you tired of go apeshit? Don’t you want to be nice? I have yet to go apeshit, so no, I’m sick of being nice.
///
I’m tagging @kvltprince @randomfuzzbunny @crenarei @cramsicle and you questions are:
1. What's your favorite piece of your own content (fanart, fanfic, tv/movie edits, etc)?
2. If you could have any pet, without requirements for space or food, what would it be?
3. What’s your favorite “struggle meal” or “quarantine meal”?
4. Quick you’ve been teleported into last last movie you watched - what is it, and what do you do first?
5. Block ramen or cup ramen?
6. Have you seen that new hype show, Tiger King, if so, what’s your honest opinion?
7. What’s a piece of media you love, but hate the fandom of?
8. Books or comics/manga?
9.
What’s the worst video game you’ve ever played (if you don’t play - what’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen)?
10. Song you could listen to on repeat and never get tired of?

Thank you very much @lilacs-with-lavender❤️
Which fandoms do you write for?
Idk, it really depends on my mood and how obssessed I am at the moment of writing. I have a Star Wars Rogue One fic on Wattpad and a Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger fic on both Wattpad and AO3. In my drafts I have many more fandoms: Warcraft LOTR, Percy Jackson, Fairy Tail, DC, Death Note, GOT, Les Mis and idk what else.(I have also posted a Misa Amane fic on Wattpad but it’s in romanian so not many people have read that, maybe I should rewrite it in english)
Which characters do you write for?
I wrote some Misa Amane fics, I started many Jason Grace fics, I am really excited about my Maiev Shadowsong x Illidan Stormrage fics, I am also a big fan of Eponine’s perspective in Les Mis, I am sure I have more but that’s all I’m gonna say for now.
Is there any character you currently don’t write for but want to, if any?
My main girl Daenerys Targaryen and my boy Matthias Helvar, I really love them both and I wanna do them justice. Also Juvia from Fairy Tail and some Inej Ghafa x Kaz Brekker action, Luna Lovegood is also on my list and let’s just add Sylvanas Windrunner for now and also my babies Kell Maresh X Lila Bard. These are just some of the characters I really wanna start writing about.
Are you working on a fic right now?
I am working on yet another Misa fic and a Illidan x Maiev one. I wanted to post them on my birthday, but I am lazy so I guess I won’t.
What do you write most of? Fluff, smut, angst, or dark?
If it is a character I love who has been wronged by canon, that means dark angst most of the time. If it’s a couple I love, fluff all the way. It’s not always like that tho I guess it depends on how I feel when I am writing. I can switch and make it all sunshine and rainbows for my wronged faves and take a dark turn for those with an ok ending. It’s not up to my brain, it’s up to my heart :))
Do you have a playlist or specific music you listen to while you write?
Yes, I have lots of playlists, but sometimes I make a specific playlist for a certain story or mood.
Are there things you like to do while writing?
I like listening to music and sometimes checking facts on the internet, because I forget stuff from canon and I am trying to be as accurate as possible(just sometimes, if canon sucks then I’ll make my own fanon). I also like to look at fanarts to get some inspiration. Or look at aesthetic boards and pics.
What writing program do you use?
Microsoft Word and google docs. When I was younger I would write directly on wattpad but those days are long gone. I also enjoy to write by hand, it makes me feel like a writer lady from the 19th century or something.
How long have you been writing for?
I have been writing since 2013-2014, around that time I think. I enjoyed writing in notebooks and journals before that and around that time one of my friends showed me wattpad (I used to read fanfics on fanfiction.net, but never thought about writing any) and then I fell in love with writing stuff, but I am too anxious to really post stuff regularly and all that.
I have no idea who to tag so if you wanna do it then please have fun!
Now some shameless advertising:
If y’all wanna check out my 2 fics here you go
my wattpad (I don’t update it anymore, but who knows) and my archiveofourown
Have a fantastic day/night wherever you may be!

I've not seen your stuff on here before (just met your wonderful Valvert art) and I'm interested why you like drawing them so much. I'm writing a book looking at why Les Mis is so popular, and talking to a lot of fans (and Valjeans and Javerts!) and I'm trying to listen to why they characters draw people to them so much. Can you help?
Hey, thanks for your ask! sorry i took time to reply, i took the time to really think about what these characters mean to me and why i love them so much! also sorry for the english mistakes since its not my first language lol. ill try to answer your question the best i can, i hope my answer wont be too long haha
i first got into les mis in like 2014/2015, but my deep love for jean valjean and javert is actually pretty recent although i liked them and shipped them as soon as i discovered les mis (but i didnt like them enough back then to dedicate an entire blog to them lol). i did draw some fanart of valjean and javert back then, but not a lot; i was more into characters like enjolras and grantaire (and their ship). when i first explored the les mis fandom on tumblr i was at a very low point of my life, really depressed and suicidal, and i happened to stumble on lots of posts about enjolras, grantaire, and especially people’s headcanons about enjolras being a trans man which led me to the biggest epiphany of my life. i got really invested into these characters, basically living vicarously through them. i projected all my repressed thoughts about gender identity on enjolras, and related to grantaire’s cynical attitude and kinda unrequited, hopeless love for enjolras. i feel like i owe my life to les mis, because had i not had this epiphany i dont know if id still be alive today (goddd that sounds so dramatic lol). Also les mis contributed to me getting interested in politics and social justice.
my interest faded a bit as i got into other things, but i still loved les mis a lot. recently i rewatched the 2012 movie, then browsed the valvert tag and oh boy i fell hard lol. i dont really know why but this time it was javert’s character who drew me (im sure there’s a better word for this but i cant find it rip). i listened to the musical on repeat, watching many clips on youtube, and i got really interested in javert and valjean’s dynamic. i also started reading the brick, and started drawing a lot of fanarts which led me to create this blog which im so happy i have now because god people are so nice to me and my art had never met such a positive response before that. i thought a lot about what drew me to javert’s character, and i think that on some levels i can kinda relate to him. i used to be sort of cynical, with very strict views on society and stuff like justice (thinking things like ‘criminals can never be forgiven’, ‘once you do something bad its because you’re inherently bad so there’s no hope for you’, shit like that. im really ashamed of it now lol). i was bullied for years when i was younger, which led me to resent people a lot, and with my crushing dysphoria (which i didnt know was actually dysphoria back then) i felt like i had no place in the world, i couldnt project myself into the future, i hated what and who i was. but unlike javert, who, knowing that he was born ‘out’ of society, decided to stay ‘out’ of it in his job (god my wording is so bad, i hope you see what i mean), i just wanted to die. when i finally came to terms with the fact that i might be trans, i felt really hopeless, and thought about all the years i had wasted, all those years i was depressed, hating myself, hurting myself, how i thought myself unloveable, and for a brief moment i wanted to die because there was no way i was going to be able to live as i wanted to, i felt like it was too late for me. eventually things got better as i moved further in accepting myself. i feel so sad for javert because, like me, his whole perception of the world was shattered, all his beliefs and values were questioned and he couldnt find a way to go on. im sad because if things had been different i might have done like him. i love aus where he survives, where valjean saves him. speaking of valjean, what i love in him is the kindness, radiant love that emanates from him. the fact that he has seen the worst of the world, the worst of men and of society, and still decides to go on and do good and dedicate his life to other.........the Big Heart energy........ i just love and admire him so much, and i know this will sound dumb but he kinda inspires me to do better, love myself and others better, be kinder to the world.
basically i love les mis for all the political/social commentary, i think that it is a very important book in itself, and i also love it for its characters, some of which became really important to me. i hope my answer satisfies you, and that it doesnt sound like me talking annoyingly about myself too much rip......also im afraid i sound too dramatic....honeslty im always too self conscious when i have to talk about myself asqjfd but thanks for asking me this it was really interesting to reflect on these things!!! have a nice day :D

thislizard replied to your post: Hey folks, how do I find Inda fanart?
hmmm…check ao3? sometimes people put fanart there or they link to it
I have now learned that there are nine (9) fanworks on AO3 for the Inda series. Sadly, this makes me feel a bit better - it just is that small of a fandom.
HEY, FOLLOWERS! Y’ALL SHOULD READ INDA AND BECOME INDA FANS AND DRAW STUFF FOR IT!
Why?
-It’s really well-written - not necessarily in a floral prose way, though there is some poetry included, as in a well-constructed way. This is an epic saga, and everything that’s introduced is going to be important later.
-The worldbuilding is quite literally the best I’ve ever seen. Maybe barring Tolkein. Maybe. Sherwood Smith has been working on this world for upwards of fifty years. She’s not as into conlang as Tolkein is, but she’s a lot better at dribbling hints of things into the story so you don’t have to read the gd Silmarillion to find out what was going on in the background. And while she’s not a linguist, she does include freaking linguistic drift in the books, both in the ones set centuries apart and as a minor plot point
-Did you like the more famous Wren series, or maybe Crown Duel, and wished there were more? There is.
-Do you like Victor Hugo and wish there were something like Les Mis but more recently written? There is. You can cry all you want - or if you don’t want to cry, you can try to remember that all of the characters got everything they ever dreamed of.
-Do you want queer representation? It’s all over these freaking books. It is just not necessarily important - after all, some people are plotting for the kingdom and others are plotting for the apocalypse. That being said, at least two sexualities become increasingly important over the course of the series. (If you include Banner of the Damned, then the asexuality becomes really important to the entire narrative and it’s the best representation I’ve ever seen.)
-Do you just want some freaking swordfights? Well have I got a story.
-What about magic both deeply woven into the fabric of society and displayed impressively across the field of the story? Sure! (Although the central country has had sanctions put in place that keep it from getting many trained magicians, so you’ll have to bear with the story for a while - unless you start with Banner of the Damned.)
-Do you really just want to fall in love with characters? WHY DO YOU THINK I LIKE THIS BOOK.
All that being said, Nimbler... Why not?
-The Inda series is something like 3000 pages. It’s not a small commitment. That being said, the slow reader I lent it to finished the first book in 6 months, the second in 4, the third in 3, the fourth in 2. It will pull you in.

So. It seems I really fell for Valvert -and Les Mis (and Javert) in general actually. It's been a real while since I last read a book so fast and with such excitement. And even though I know mostly everything that's happening, well- I still smile like an idiot every time an important information comes- or Javert's name drops. (Well, as always I'm defending the "vilain" of the story cuz, no buddy, he's not an asshole just a poor little sad baby brlbrlbrl and he's not being kinda perverse while in a "hunt" nonono Hugo said it himself he's a freakin' artiiiiist !) But otherwise, more than ever I realise (and suddenly i seeeeeee -sry-) how much the fanfics, fanarts, fan-everything and community and all make a HUGE part of my fandom's appreciation. Like, even if I already knew a lot about Les Mis (idk elsewhere, but here in France Hugo's name is such a monument you just CAN'T not know about it) the first time I finally saw something about it was the '12 movie. And, woah. (Now the 10th anniversary seems to be my favorite cast though. But I like 25th's Javert a lot too, and have to say also Crowe's... and NO, I'm not havin' a thing for Javert what makes you say thaaaaat) Weeeell... So, I was sayiiiiing~ Passed the kind of fun at hearing eng-speaking people having trouble or mispronouncing french words (monsieur le maiiiiiire) and my usual "nop nop nop buddy don't slash it- oh hey, is that slash ???" struggle... (My slasher's name's Dory) Here is (finally) the fandom part ! And this too long introduction was about my love for fandoms, because I only realised lately how much it has a great deal getting me involved into them. Like, after I watched the film I read fanfics. Then it made me want to know other versions (like the dreamcast), and to read the book (which definitely was a great thing). But while doing this, I already had some kind of "altered" vision of the lore, because fanfictions and stuff I found on tumblr shared different views of the story and the characters, other interpretations mostly. For example, I can take my discovery of Borderlands. First I played Tales from the Borderlands, found the universe great, then read fanfics. And that's how I came to love characters as Handsome Jack (I have a problem with him too), as much as the lore and different knowledge I got from it. And I feel like the exact same thing happened with Les Miserables. I already knew a lot about the story, learned more with the film which made me curious, but became really fond of the characters thanks to fanfictions. I feel like any of them give a part of the author's vision which may contributes to your vision of the story. I mean, you might disagree of course, but still it can make you think of it. "Oh, this one thinks *name* acts life this because of this" or "This can enlightens *name* actions". And maybe, sometimes, it might slightly change your understanding of a character or anything else in the lore. I was speaking of how I like Javert's character. As a matter of fact, I came found of him during the movie (which was a bit of a surprise as I don't always like Crowe's acting) but to read more about him (even if non-canonical stuff) helped my understanding of the character. And thus, increased my love of him. And THIS is precisely why I think fandoms are amazing. Our shared love for the same thing, all the exchange around it. That's precious. Well. I'm looking for Les Mis and Valvert related blogs to follow. :3 THIS IS A LOT OF TALKING FOR NOT MUCH, VERY SORRY OF ME (Must have a lot of mistakes. Blame my french.)

This is such a wonderful blog and blog-idea!!! Theres even some Rs i havent seen yet 💚🥰 wonderful work op!
Thank you!
Idk if we ever really talked or communicated way way back in the day, but I used to be Squash nothing-rhymes-with-ianto/nothing-rhymes-with-grantaire back in the old Les Mis heyday of 2012-2014. My blog got deleted a few years ago but my Les Mis obsession has come back with a vengeance and I no one I know irl is a fan, so I got a new tumblr for Brick-rereading purposes! And back in the old days I always wanted to start a tumblr just reblogging only R fanart, so now I’m doing it!
