You know even if I’m still absolutely devastated by the fact Legends of Tomorrow was cancelled because it was one of the few ridiculous, fun feel good shows on air that still brought me joy, I think it would’ve been hilarious if they ended it with them all getting arrested for time crimes on purpose, like rather than a setup for a next season we’ll never get to see through, if it was just an intentionally slapstick Monty Python and the Holy Grail-esque finale, with the time police chasing them around screen, I almost would’ve been okay with it, but in the abrupt/unintentional case of what did happen, it leaves it feeling incomplete and it’s so sad.

65.  A Gwyn/Alun Happy Ending (Legends of Tomorrow)

This was probably the plan on the long run, but thanks to the show being cancelled, we have to assume that this new Time Police just put Alun back where he belongs, so he can die like he was supposed to and that Gwyn never got him back in the end, even though the Paradox-Problem had been solved before, so that wouldn’t really be necessary.

The worst part about the cancelation is, that it comes across as if the Time Crime the Legends got arrested for actually was uniting a star crossed gay couple. If Warner wanted us to know their new politics now that Discovery has taken over, they succeeded in a stellar fashion. The queer Legends and their allies got put away, and the gay couple made the Time Police interwine. Yeah, we get it. You hate us all and don’t think we deserve happe endings.

Two weeks international fan-love for nothing. WarnerTV putting the Avalance-Wedding on National Superheroes Day on their Twitter only for The CW to answer with this. A Cliffhangar concerning all the Season 8 Cast-Members that will never be resolved. Not only one but two Arrowverse-Shows not being allowed to go out on their terms and telling their stories to an end.

How can we ever trust The CW again? Why continue to watch anything there? “The Flash”, “Superman & Lois”, “Riverdale, fucking  “Walker” - all of this might just end on a Cliffhangar next year after their producers were told not to worry it would go on.

That really i the kind of news we love to wake up too.

Fuck The CW and everyone over there.

All we wanted was a short final season, damn it!

Legends of Tomorrow Season 7. And so we come to the end of our Waverider voyage, and it’s certainly been a trip. In all senses of the word.  I’m gonna miss this dumb, brilliant show. One more time, for the ride, here’s my round up of  season 7:

Things that made me happy:

·       Ace Spooner. I was spoiled for this, and happy to be spoiled, but the execution was just beautiful. I can’t believe I got a canon ace character and then they took her away again.

·       Did we break Ava?

·       MY SAFE WORD IS CORE COMPETENCY. Of course it is, Ava, I love you.

·       Gwyn just being a completely adorable and heartbreaking character, and Matt Ryan absolutely nailing it.

·       Gwyn’s reaction to discovering that we put a man on the moon. Utter perfection.

·       TAKE A CHANCE ON SARA LANCE

·       The Fixed Point, both concept and episode, were completely brilliant (With caveats, see below)

·       Seeing everyone again in the 100th episode ( but why no Maisie Richardson-Sellers? Boo)

·       The reality show in Hell, and Gwyn’s prayers being bleeped out

·       The ideal futures shown to the gang by Gideon mostly revolving around people’s achievements, and not just assuming that partner + kids + white picket fence is all that is needed for happiness or the only route to happiness. It’s a little thing, but I appreciated it.

·       The party in Too Legit To Quit that functioned (presumably unintentionally) as a final farewell to the gang.

·       Everyone teaming up in the end to save Alan (also with caveats, see below)

Things that made me go hmmm

·       Nate moving to the totem with Original!Zari, not sure that quite worked for me? I mean, I’m happy they’re together, but I just didn’t feel like I got any kind of sense of what life in the totem was going to be like for Nate, so I couldn’t judge it was right for him. Plus they seemed to go from “I can live in the totem and commute” to “If I go live in the totem I have to stop being a legend” without much explanation. I felt something was missing here

·       As above I loved the Fixed Point, but I’m not sure if I’d have picked world war one as the historical event in question. Legends has always kind of shoved under the carpet the moral implications of “preserve the timeline at all costs” versus the chaos that ensues when the legends break time, and fair enough, it’s a light hearted show for the most part. But if you’re going to make stopping/not stopping world war one a central plot point, I think the elephant in the room can no longer be ignored. And no, saving the one person we care about from the carnage doesn’t cut it.

Things that I hate

·       That fucking cliffhanger. Honestly, without that, I’d have been pretty happy with this as a final season, but the Legends deserved better than to go out like that.

Der Tag, an dem das Arrowverse ermordert wurde

Am Freitag hat The CW das Arrowverse ermordet, und auch wenn es vielleicht noch ein bis zwei Jahre dauern wird, bis die letzten Todeszuckungen aufhören werden, sollten wir uns den 29. April 2022 als das Datum merken, an dem The CW seine größte Franchise in einem Akt der Selbstverstümmelung zum Tode verurteilt hat. Mit einem Schlag wurden die Arrowverse-Serien halbiert. Zum ersten Mal in mehr als 10 Jahren wurde eine Arrrowverse-Serie gecanncelt, bisher hatte man sich immer darauf geeinigt die Serien zu beenden und eine finale Staffel zu produzieren, in der die jeweililge Geschichte zu Ende erzählt werden würde, doch nun wurde zwischen den Staffeln ohne jede Vorwarnung erklärt, dass Schluss ist, und das gleich bei zwei Serien. Eine davon war die zuletzt noch zweitälteste Serie der Franchise, die sieben Staffeln gelaufen ist und nun trotzdem mit einem Cliffhangar endet, in dem alle aktiven Legends inklusive des neu ins Arrowverse eingeführten Booster Gold von einer Art geheimnisvollen Zeitpolizei verhaftet werden - ja The CW hat “Legends of Tomorrow” gecanncelt, und das obwohl die Produzenten der Serie noch vor zwei Wochen relativ sicher waren, dass es eine achte Staffel geben würde. Die zweite gecanncelt Serie ist “Batwoman” und das war abzusehen, aber trotzdem hätte man angenommen, dass man zumindest eine Abschlussstaffel genehmigen würde, denn immerhin reden wir hier von einer Arrowverse-Serie. Realtisch gesehene 80% der Zuseher des Senders werden von dieser Franchise generiert.

Perverseweise scheint es so zu sein, dass The CW diese Absetzungen als Trotzreaktion auf die Fan-Kampagnen der letzten Wochen schnell bekannt gegeben bzw. beschlossen hat, offenbar wollte man den so empfundenen “Online-Terror”, der nach weiteren Staffeln gerufen hat, zum Verstummen bringen. Falls das wirklich eine der Begründung für diese Entscheidung war, dann stehen die Zeichen für “Legacies” schlecht, die einzige Nicht-Arrowvers-Serie in der Bubble, deren Fans ebenso  viel bzw. eigentlich sogar noch mehr Lärm um machen um eine Verlängerung zu erreichen, und deren aktuelle Staffel überraschend vier Folgen mehr hat als gedacht, die jetzt gerade gezeigt werden.

Natürlich ist es auch auffällig, dass der Sender die LBGT-Serien unter seinen vier Arrowverse-Shows gecanncelt hat, während die Serien, in deren Mittelpunkt ein weißer mit einer Frau verheirateter Mann steht, schon vor Wochen verlängert wurden. Da kann man die Serie noch so oft “Superman& Lois” nennen, Lois trägt kein Cape, und so wichtig sie und ihre Söhne für die Serie sind, letztlich ist es eine Superman-Serie. Ähnliches gilt für den “Flash”, unter Eric Wallace spielt Team Flash letztlich sowieso eine viel untergeordnetere Rolle als früher, Iris spielt in den aktuellen Staffeln sowieso nur noch eine Art Neben- und Opferrolle, und mit der Aussicht darauf, dass bald ein Mitglied von Team Flash sterben wird, Jesse L. Martin in der 9. Staffel nicht mehr Hauptdarsteller sein wird, und das Gerücht umgeht, dass Candice Patton die Serie zumindest als Hauptdarstellerin verlassen wird ,und Danielle Panabakers Mutterschaftsurlaub in irgendeiner Form eine Rolle für Staffel 9 spielen wird, ist klar: im Grunde dreht sich die Serie um Barry Allen. Trotz versuchter Diversität lässt sich “The Flash” eben nicht mit “Legends of Tomorrow” oder “Batwoman” vergleichen. “Superman & Lois” betont das Latino-Erbe der Cushings in seiner zweiten Staffel und hat einen Hauptcharakter als bi geoutet und hat natürlich die Familie Irons, ist aber trotzdem letztlich die am wenigsten diverse Serie des Arrowversums. Auch spielt Sozialkritik in den beiden eingestellten Serien eine viel bedeutender Rolle als in Smallville oder Central City - bei Eric Wallace hat man sich während der 7. Staffel mitunter ja sogar gefragt, ob der nicht Wahrheit die Polizei mit seinem entsprechenden Handlungsstrang verteidigt hat.

Also ja, das Ganze geht in eine eindeutige Richtung. Und scheinbar aus dem Nichts heraus. Irgendwann zwischen Dezember und Mai muss etwas passiert sein, was zu dem hier geführt hat. Discovery kann nicht die Schuld tragen, die sind gerade erst dabei sich die Neuerwerbung Warner anzuschauen, nein, offenbar liegt dem allem der geplante Verkauf des Senders zu Grunde. Man hat fast das Gefühl, dass sich die Verantwortlichen bei The CW an Warner rächen wollen, weil die sie verkaufen wollen. Nur, dass es natürlich absolut widersinnig ist das, was potentielle Käufter am eigenen Katalog interessieren würde, herunterzuschrauben.

Auf jeden Fall ist der Vertrauensverhältnis zwischen Fans und Sender aber auch Angestellten und Sender dahin. The CW war immer das US-Network für das man gerne gearbeitet hat, weil man sich sicher sein konnte, dass man eben nicht von Heute auf Morgen arbeitslos wird, wenn man dort an seiner Serie arbeitet, die bereits ein bis zwei Jahre lang erfolgreich gelaufen ist. Die Serien dort durften zu Ende erzählt werden, sobald sie die erste Staffel erfolgreich überstanden hatten. Das haben sowohl die Zuseher als auch die Angestellten zur schätzen gewusst. Jetzt ist das vorbei. Im Gegenteil, all die bereits verlängerten Serien wie etwa auch “Riverdale” laufen Gefahr nächstes Jahr mit einem Cliffhangar zu Ende zu gehen, weil man den Produzenten eben nicht rechtzeitig mitgeteilt hat, dass man plant ihre Serien nicht zu verlängern. Denn scheinbar ist das der neue Arbeitston.

Wozu sollte man sich also überhaupt noch eine Serie auf diesen Sender ansehen? Weil man wissen will die aktuelle Storyline ausgeht, klar, aber danach? Wozu mit Staffel 3 von “Superman & Lois” oder mit Staffel 7 von “Riverdale” anfangen, wenn man am Ende einfach sitzen gelassen wird und das ohne jede Vorwarnung?

Den Schaden, den The CW sich mit diesem Doppelschlag selbst zugefügt hat, kann man jetzt noch nicht bemessen, aber er ist gewaltig. Anstatt die Fans zum Verstummen zu bringen, sind jetzt natürlich diverse “SaveBatwoman” und “SaveLegendsofTomorrow” Aktionen angelaufen. Und die ersten Privatadressen wurden auch schon wieder geleakt, weil inzwischen offenbar alle auf Clexa-Gate vergessen haben bzw. nicht kapiert haben welche Serie die Kampflesben jetzt anschauen (Hinweis: Sie beginnt mit B).

Unterdessen wird es wohl auch keine großen Crossover mehr geben, wie es sie vor Covid gab, und die wahre Events und Quotenerfolge der Sonderklasse waren. Mit nur noch zwei Serien kann es vielleicht Ein -oder Zweiteiler geben, in Wahrheit wird es aber wichtiger sein die Legends aus dem Gefängnis zu holen, das wird auf Grund der Anzahl der dafür erforderlichen Gastdarsteller aber wohl kaum On-Screen in einer der anderen Serien stattfinden können, aber es wird auf jeden Fall wichtiger sein Booster Gold im “Flash” auftauchen zu lassen, als Barry und Clark einander treffen zu lassen, wozu sonst wäre das ganze Fan-Getöse gut?

Ironischerweise wurde das Arrowverse gerade während seiner exklusiven Comic-Mini-Serie “Earth Prime” zum Tode verurteilt. Hier hatte Ryan Wilder Anfang April ihr erstes Abenteuer als Batwoman in einem DC-Comic, und hier erscheint in wenigen Tagen das erste Comic-Abenteuer der Legends, was leider auch ihr letztes Abenteuer jemals sein wird, und das obwohl das nie so geplant gewesen war. Es war da um alte Fans zurück zu locken, indem vergangene Charaktere neue Abenteuer erleben. Jetzt wird es stattdessen das letzte Abenteuer der Legends sein, dass unter dem Titel “Legends of Tomorrow” auf die Welt losgelassen wurde, und natürlich wird hier nicht der Cliffhangar der Serie aufgelöst werden.

Und so wird sich “Legends” den unaufgelösten Enden der nie realisieren Arrowverse-Backdoorpilots “Green Arrow and the Canaries” und “Painkiller” anschließen. Und ebenso wie diese beiden nie ordentlich zu Ende geführt werden. Ryan Wilder wird in Vergessenheit geraten, und wir werden niemals erfahren was aus Bruce Wayne wurde. Und nächstes Jahr um diese Zeit werden wir vermultich über das unverdiente unvorhergesehene und verfrühte Ende von “Superman& Lois” lamentieren. Vermutlich mit Cliffhangar, außer die lahme Drehgeschwindigkeit dieser Serie ist einmal ein Glücksfall und sorgt dafür, dass sie auf einen seasonalen Cliffhangar verzichten. Oder er ist wie in Season 1 und man kann ähnlich wie im Fall von “Batwoman” damit leben.

Verdient hätten sich all diese Serien ein tatsächliches Ende. Dass sie keines bekommen zeigt nur, dass am Ende Hass die Rechtsradikalen immer siegen.

59.  What really happend to John Constantine at the Ende of Season 6 (Legends of Tomorrow)

The way John was written out of „Legends“ was kind of strange. Maybe the actually planned to kill him off but backed out in the last moment because they did not want to be the show that killled of John Constantine, or maybe they originally thought they would have time to resolve what really happend to him in the beginning of Season 7, I don’t know.

I actually always thought we would get to see John again in Season 7, since Matt was still on the show. But as we all know Warner just sucks and that ban on the John Constantine Character was pretty stricked and effective immediatly, I guess. And the worst part of it is, that not only would there have been enough time between Season 7 and the now-cancelled-new-„Constantine“-TV-Show to give John a proper goodbye, but that he was written out of the Arrowverse for no reason, because like I said that damn show that no one wanted anyways is not happening at HBOmax and probably not at all, and the new Keanu Reeves Movie will hit the screens long after the Arrowverse has ended, so there really was no reason why we never got an explanation how and why John Constantine mangaged to weasle his way out of his demise this time.

Did he really sell his soul again? Why did he knew he had to give Zari the key to his house? I always got the impression that he knew what was going to happen with the Waverider, and that the Legends would need the key in order to have a home until they can figure out how to get back to the present. I always had the impression that the John Zari spoke with cleary came from a point further down the timeline after the Legends managed to get back to the present. Maybe it was just me, but I alwasy got the impression that there was more to come out of this last conversation but with „Legends“ cancelled and Warner and The CW sucking more than ever, we will never know what that whole ending of Season 6 was really all about.

The CW hat gerade das Arrowverse gekillt. Da man vor allem bei Legends im Dezember und sogar vor zwei Wochen noch relativ fest davon ausgegangen ist, dass es eine weitere Staffel geben würde und das die Reaktion auf eine internationale Fan-Kampagne ist, die im Prinzip nur sicherstellen wollte, dass die Serie(n) ihre Geschichte weitererzählen dürfen, können wir uns nicht mehr darauf verlassen, dass irgendeine Serie aus dem Hause The CW jemals wieder ein ordentliches Ende bekommen wird, und das inkludiert “The Flash” und “Superman & Lois”. Wozu also noch irgendwas weiter schauen?

Dieser Blog wird wohl weiterexistieren, aber ob es neue Fanfictions geben wird, ist fraglich. Es tut zu weh, dass ich den Legends ein Ende schreiben müsste, immerhin waren sie sieben Jahre lang unterwegs, sie hätten es verdient gehabt ein Ende zu bekommen.
