Wolves and Rabbits - Part One
Legend meets Wolfie for the first time(s). It doesn’t go well.
[this was getting too long for one post so i’ve decided to split it into multiple parts]
The atmosphere around the fire was warm and friendly. Though the Chain, as they’d jokingly dubbed themselves, hadn’t been traveling together long, conversation flowed freely and laughter brightened the air.
Legend and Warriors, as they were now called, sat together on one side of the fire, engaged in one of their now-familiar verbal spars. It hadn’t taken long when they met for the two of them to start bickering, picking each other apart with their words and sharp tongues. Now, though, it was (mostly) in good fun; a way for them to destress and rid themselves of excess energy without coming to physical blows.
“No, no, you really thought-” Legend cut himself off to stifle the laughter bubbling out of his throat. “There’s no way you actually-”
“Okay, when you put it like that, I suppose I can see where I may- may! have gone wrong,” Warriors admitted. He shot the Veteran a glare, but everyone could tell there was no heat to it.
He was about to say more when there was a cry of “Wolfie!” He turned to watch as Wild bounded over to greet the wolf as he padded into camp. Wolfie yipped in greeting, nuzzling Wild before moving to say hello to the rest of the heroes around the fire. Legend made no move to join them.
“Oh! That’s right, you haven’t met Wolfie, yet, have you? No need to worry, he’s a big sof-” Wars turned to see Legend frozen, eyes wide and trained directly on Wolfie. “...Vet?”
There was no answer.
The unexpected lack of response had the others looking over, confused expressions quickly morphing to worry at the continuing silence. Wolfie made a questioning noise, gingerly stepping closer to see what was the matter.
Legend was rigid, face rapidly paling as he tracked Wolfie’s every move. Warriors noticed with a start the other didn’t even seem to be breathing. His hands were clenched so hard on the log his knuckles were white. This close, Wars could hear his pulse, hammering rabbit-quick. Legend still didn’t move.
Wolfie whined, taking another hesitant step forward. Legend’s hands twitched, an aborted attempt at fight-or-flight, but otherwise there was no outward reaction. Wolfie stopped, his ears going flat. He lowered himself to the ground, making himself smaller, less threatening. It didn’t seem to help.
“Alright, that’s enough,” Time’s voice cut through the uneasy silence, quiet though it was. “Wolfie, I think it’s best if you leave for now.” The wolf whined again but slowly began to back away. Legend watched as he disappeared into the bushes but still didn’t relax.
It wasn’t until several long minutes passed that he finally took a shuddering breath, shoulders dropping minutely as he unclenched his hands from their tight fists. Warriors noted the bright crescent marks from where his nails had bitten into them.
“...Legend? Are you- are you okay?” came the Traveler’s hesitant voice.
Their resident Veteran seemed to snap back to himself, shoulders going taut again. He pushed himself to his feet, turning sharply away from the fire - and away from everyone’s staring eyes - and started towards where they’d left their packs.
“Legend-”
“It’s fine. I’m fine. There’s nothing to worry about,” He snapped, voice tight.
They didn’t bring it up again after that.

How is Sky weird? I mean just being Link would make you weird, but Sky specific weirdness?
(Referring to this post)
It really depends on who you ask.
If you ask Four, he’d say that Sky’s facial expressions remind him of one of the stable dogs back home. That is to say, he always either looks like there’s not a single thought in his head or he looks incredibly bewildered and concerned. There is no in between. Internally, Red never shuts up and constantly compares the two, and Four has almost accidentally called him by that dog’s name a few times.
If you ask Time, he’d say that his love of cuccos is very strange (though Time is extremely biased because those feathery demons are the reason he actually needs an eyepatch). He’s also been taking and saving pictographs of weird and wacky places and poses Sky has fallen asleep in.
If you ask Legend, he’d give you a list of reasons he thinks Sky is weird. There’s fact that his sailcloth always smells like perfume that never seems to fade, how he always seems shocked by all this hero nonsense despite going on his own adventures, how he can fall asleep basically anywhere, and how the only dish he’s capable of making is a particular pumpkin soup but somehow nothing else. That’s just the things he’d think of off the top of his head.
If you ask Hyrule, he’d say that Sky’s “commander voice” is weird and honestly kinda spooky! It’s like Sky’s an entirely different person when he’s barking orders on the field. He does really enjoy watching Sky fight though, he’s so elegant and fast!
If you ask Twilight, he’d insist that Sky is the smartest dumb guy he’s ever met. This man looked him in the eye and referred to cauliflower as “ghost broccoli” with all the confidence in the world, but he also has an incredible grasp of physics and has given Wild tips on how to be more aerodynamic when he jumps off mountains.
If you ask Wind, he’d say that the way he makes kissy faces at those “hell birds” (cuccos) both “fucking weird” and “crazier than Loft and Champ combined” (referring to Wild and Four and the shenanigans they get into).
If you ask Warriors, he’d say that he can’t understand how different Sky is on the battlefield versus anywhere else. In battle he’s incredibly fast and keenly aware of everyone and everything in the vicinity. He keeps an eye on all of them while also shredding enemies like he was born to do it (and in a way, he kind of was). But he’s also witnessed Sky walk right into a tree because he was daydreaming, draw his sword on it, and then apologize to it before realizing it’s just a tree, not a person.
If you ask Wild, he’d insist that it’s fucking weird how everyone else considers Sky to be one of the least crazy of the group (which is a fucking lie if he’s ever heard one). He’s watched Sky get into all sorts of chaos and shenanigans just like the rest of them, but somehow his sleepy demeanor and the fact that he isn’t usually the instigator somehow keeps him from getting any blame.
If you ask Sun, she’ll say he has the strangest compliments. “Your hands are very convenient!” he tells her with all the love and adoration in the world. She’s charmed but confused.
If you ask Groose, he’ll just say “his face”. (In reality he finds the weird prophecy and reincarnation bullshit to be his weirdest trait, but he shares that with Sun so it’s not a Sky exclusive weird thing)

I really like all of your Spirit and Wind stuff!!! Your art is super cute and I really like how you characterize Spirit.
Can I ask what Spirt’s relationships with the other members of the Chain are? :3
OMG MY GOD ILL SOB??? THANK YOU IM GOING TO CRY ?!!!!! THAT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
And for the rest of the chain, I haven’t really thought about it much? But I need to start thinking of those interactions at some point, I s’pose! Here’s how I think the rest of the chain would interact with Spirit!
Time
Time was pretty hesitant about the idea of having another literal child join their team, but he couldn’t just say no
He treats Spirit the same way he treats Wind! He’s just a good role model who always tries to include them and treats him as an equal to the rest of the chain. He is still nervous in some instances because that’s a whole child
It took him a while to get closer to Spirit, mainly because Spirit was shy and wouldn’t talk to him much. They bonded after Spirit had a nightmare and Time was the one on watch who just sat and talked to him :)
Twilight
Twilight was also hesitant about another kid joining the team but got used to the idea fast.
They aren’t necessarily the best of friends at first, but Twilight has perfect older brother vibes and Spirit loves spending genuine time with Twilight. When they are together it’s them playing games together a lot.
Idk why but I have a vivid image in my head of Twi taking the younger members of the chain, Spirit included, swimming in a river or smth and just tossing them around for fun. Like helping launch them into the water from off his shoulders and stuff
Spirit doesn’t know that Twilight is Wolfie, but he LOVES wolfie. Will sit there and coddle him and sneak him bites of his dinner and talks to him in the pet voice™️
I also love the hc that Spirit is just slightly allergic to dogs so although he loves Wolfie with his entire heart and soul the other members of the chain have to physically drag him away from Wolfie because he has been sneezing nonstop for the past half hour and looks like he’s been crying can someone PLEASE tell him to stop hugging the wolf or else he’s gonna make his allergies worse SPIRIT DO NOT GIVE WOLFIE LITLLE KISSES ON THE FOREHEAD-
Sky
Sky doesn’t understand anything about trains, but he listens to all of Spirit’s explanations and ideas with such interest that the chain jokes that he’s going to be the one who ends up inventing the train because of the time travel stuff
Sky is Spirit’s go to emotional support human, after Wind of course. When Spirit is too nervous or shy to go to Wind for comfort, Sky is the first one he’ll go to for advice and general comfort.
Legend
He acts annoyed at Wind and Spirit all the time. But when the others aren’t looking, he is the sweetest to them.
Legend can be driven up the wall by the two, but he sees them as little brothers and will to everything in his power to passive aggressively show how much he cares for them. The chain jokes that Spirit and Wind are his only weaknesses
Spirit loves Legend the way kids like adults who are mean to them because they think it’s funny. The thing is, once he gets comfortable enough, he can and will out-snark Legend and clap back just as hard. Legend is secretly proud that Spirit is able to utilize sarcasm so well
Wild
He is one of the only ones who can, with at least 72% accuracy, tell Wind and Spirit apart when they have switched outfits.
With his very mediocre ability to tell them apart on occasion, he feeds into their ruse and helps spread confusion amongst the rest of the Chain. He is an active believer in causing and maintaining mischief
Spirit and Wind often ask for his help with pranks because of this
Wild and Spirit have long, long talks about the technology in their Hyrules. I like to think that Wild is a pretty good engineer/scientist himself, so he teaches Spirit about the Sheikah Tech (as much as he can, anyways) and Spirit teaches him about trains and basic engineering processes
Whenever they’re able, they try to build little mechanical machines together to pass the time
Spirit is the only one Wild trusts completely with the Sheikah Slate. Spirit knows every feature and is the only one who can actually use it confidently (other than Wild of course)
Warriors
Loves Spirit like a little brother. He often competes with Legend for the title of “the favorite brother”.
He is also terrified of Spirit.
That child is just as chaotic as Wind and no one EVER expects him to do something diabolical, but Warriors knows better than that and lives in fear of what Spirit has running through that little brain of his.
He prays every day that he does not fall victim to their next prank
Hyrule
Spirit loves Hyrule so much. They’re both on the quieter side, but they are sarcastic and annoying when they want to be.
He goes adventuring with Hyrule and Wild on occasion! He is the only one who is able to keep track of their location with decent enough accuracy that he can lead them back to the general area of camp when they get lost
Spirit is a pretty nervous kid, so he goes to Hyrule whenever he thinks something is genuinely wrong. If he’s hurt, Hyrule is usually the first to know. If he’s worried about someone else on the team, he’ll mention it to Hyrule to see if he can help in any way.
Hyrule teaches him some basic medical skills because Spirit knows how reckless Wind can be and how clumsy he himself is and wants to be able to help out when they get hurt and Hyrule is not readily available to heal them.
Four
Four and Spirit have lots of deep, philosophical conversations. Idk why I just get this vibe from them.
When Wind is busy doing something else, Spirit often joins Four’s side and chats with him :D
Spirit LOVES listening to all of Four’s stories
Four showed Spirit a minish and Spirit lost his MIND because oh my goddess it’s so SMALL and CUTE and they just have such cute little FACES
Four couldn’t stop laughing at Spirit’s reaction he thought it was so sweet that this kid is so fascinated by these little guys

Eustace and Muriel Bagge as Hylians and Linkle’s grandparents. Fight me on it.
I mentioned in a post of mine that Linkle’s adoptive grandparents are basically hylian versions of Eustace and Muriel from Courage the Cowardly Dog. (If you don’t know that show, you missed out.)
Well I decided that actually make them Eustace and Muriel. With pointed hylian ears of course.
I mean come on! It would be so funny! Muriel being her kindly sweet self (RIP Thea White), Eustace being his grumpy greedy self (RIP Lionel Wilson and Arthur Anderson), and finally Courage being his cowardly but at time brave self. Then you add Linkle, a young woman with wicked aim with crossbows, no sense of direction, and one of the only people who isn’t afraid of cuccos and actually loves them.
Add in Link/Warriors after he and Linkle discover they’re long lost twins. I know for a fact that Muriel would spoil him (and Linkle) rotten. She also hits anyone who dares speak ill of him in her hearing range with her trusty rolling pin. Eustace may seem indifferent but even he hates when people seek ill of Link/Warriors. Unlike other people in Hyrule, he understands that Link/Warriors was only 17 when Cia asked for his hand in marriage when they had just met. Of course that boy was going to say no, he couldn’t even say yes if he wanted to. Not without Cia being arrested. (She should have been for even asking)
Haters and naysayers find themselves tripping over their own feet once used to pulled out his mask (an enchanted mask that frightens everything looking at it. He got it for single rupee from some weird salesman shortly after he and Muriel got married). Courage likes Link/Warriors (even though he is understandably, downright terrified of Epona) to the point if you can’t him in Muriel’s lap, you’ll find him in Link’s.
If I could write without getting distracted (thanks ADHD), I would totally write scenes of this. It would be so cute and fluffy, which Link needs with all the people writing angst with him as the star.
