i was actually talking to my friends just yesterday about how there's relatively few Creacher-y ROs around... so for whatever reason, i guess because it's on my mind, i thought i'd take a bit of time/space here to mention all of the Monsterfucker Approved (TM) ROs that i could come up with, in case anyone else might be interested. this list isn't meant to be exhaustive (in case i miss anyone) as sadly i am yet to become all-seeing and all-knowing 😔

Rhaxa and Imxa from Project Hadea by my beloved @nyehilismwriting. spikey, scaley, bitey, etc. 👌i also love and appreciate the attention to detail put into worldbuilding for the different ways their species communicates and thinks and so on, showing the culture gaps between them and humans. quality buggies!

Creacher (Eldritch)

Roach from The Passenger... the mc is also an eldritch creacher in this one, which may add or subtract to the enjoyment for various different people lol

Sysba from Attollo; i also think this game in general is pretty monster friendly, with a bunch of monstrous side characters and so forth. the cool kind of neo-gothic vibes give it a feeling a bit akin to a cyberpunk Penny Dreadful... it's about as Monsterfucker as cyberpunk gets i think!

Beacon from Stygian: The Abyssal Lighthouse by my good friend @salty-stories. this one is probably the most Lovecraftian of the eldritch creachers i think, heavy Call of Cthulhu vibes. it's still in progress but i'm personally willing to wait haha

Lorelei and The Other from The Golden Harp; pirates and sirens and mermaids, oh my!

Danny and Isla from When It Hungers by the wonderful @roast-ifs ... the game is still on hiatus but it still lives rent-free in my head always... the monster mcs are So *chef's kiss*

Oisein from The Nameless; due to the sheevra mc there's a Lot of really cool exploration of the boundaries of humanity and stuff like that... we love a "nonhumans shouldn't be able to feel/do this" story... we love it a Normal amount for sure.

Ooh! I have really, really bad memory(!!) but these are current faves that I have played/replayed recently that I can think of. A lot of the authors are also THE BEST HUMAN BEINGS EVER. So, double recommendation.

I probably missed a bunch out, so take this as a non-exhaustive list! In no particular order:

WIPs with demos

Citadel, @bouncyballcitadel (I think of all the IFs on this list, this one makes me sweat the most. And I've said it once and I'll say it again: the dialogue is so snappy and well-written, and characters are SO DAMNED LOVEABLE.)

Infamous, @infamous-if (I've been manifesting Band/Musician IFs for the longest time, and then this popped up! I've even played Choice of a Rockstar, that's how desperate I was... Anyway, this is legions better than that. Angsty ex routes are my kryptonite, and Seven is just. Inevitable.)

Defiled Hearts: The Barbarian, @defiledheartsblog (I went into this wanting something juicy and fun/historical—and it's all of those things, but I didn't expect it to be so damned funny, too. The ROs are all impeccable.)

Raiders of the Caravan and Apartment 3-3, @leftski-if (A'ight listen, fantasy slice-of-life is my fave genre, and these are IT. Like, everything I never knew I needed in my life, and SO cozy/wholesome, with a cast of characters that I want to befriend in real life.)

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: An Affair of the Heart @doriana-gray-games (First off, the customization in this game is INSANE, and the branching too. I've replayed a couple of times and the little variations I discover each time just blows my mind. Secondly, it's so funny and written so well. Ngl I'm not a Sherlock fan but that's just testament to how amazing this IF is.)

When Life Gives You Lemons, @when-life-gives-you-lemonssss (Modern slice-of-life with an adorable kid, a bunch of hot ROs, CC. Hill's humor, what can I say?)

Golden @milaswriting (Really interesting world-building, one of the coolest fictional cities I've read in an IF, AND I'm obsessed with the ROs, in particular K de la Renta. Also Mila is such an awesome writer, I'm beyond excited for @beyondthegame.)

A Tale of Crowns @ataleofcrowns (This game is beautiful, polished, and SO exciting. Honestly, it looks like the kind of game created by a whole-ass game studio and would cost $50 to buy, it's that good. I really got swept up by this IF—probably played it all in one go.)

Rougi @rougi-if (Again, another game with scrumptious visuals/UI and also is just so well-crafted. I love the premise too, it's so original and fresh.)

Scout: An Apocalypse Story @anya-dev (Unfortunately this one might be on hiatus but I am/was really, really obsessed.)

Wayfarer @idrellegames (Love the game mechanics of this one, and the visuals. Probably controversial, but I like the D&D / random dice effect. And I also like the fact that it feels like an old-school RPG.)

Chop shop @losergames (The premise is all I needed to be sold, really—I'd always wanted to buy GTA as a kid but my parents were like NO WAY. Anyway, this IF did not disappoint, and let me live all my childhood dreams.)

Edit: AHH! How could I forget, one of my recent faves, Folksaga @folksaga-if (Lush atmospheric writing, super unique premise—norse mythology, plus I'm head over heels for Katla).

Is it bad that I can't remember my inspiration for IOWT? Generally, my ideas come from a combination of other media, music and random ideas when I'm trying to fall asleep at ungodly hours. Most often I watch television shows or movies and think "What if this happened?" then my thoughts spiral from there for hours.

Ruokar laughs, then pulls the MC close and grins. "We'd better get started, then," he says, followed by a kiss.

Magreth isn't sure how to respond at first, falling quiet and looking a little bewildered as he struggles to make eye contact. Eventually, when he finds his voice again, he glances back to the MC and says, "Maybe... we can start with one and go from there?"

The comment comes as a surprise to Freja, but not an unwelcome one. She says she's never been the sort to plan much in advance - life never goes quite the way you expect, after all - but she's always wanted to adopt. If it's in the cards, there's no reason to stop at one.

Mint, having no interest in having children of her own, would grow quietly worried at first. Several long but heartfelt conversations later, she begins looking into acquiring a permit to open an orphanage or school within the city that she and the MC can manage together.

I just finished to read the demo, and I love it. I wasn't able to stop. Garamond is too precious for me now.

I choose to play it because I wanted to play as a werewolf, and I really enjoyed how it came about. It was just so delightfully angsty. My MC, Henrik, was Garamond's best friend from childhood, and someone who was pining for him from years. So Garamond does feel incredibly conflicted about making Henrik a werewolf, and I understand entirely why.

I'm also very curious how the romance will develop (if it can). Because it's clear Garamond feels guilty about turning Henrik, but is obvious he couldn't let Henrik die. And Garamond already rejected the romance, so, even if he thought he was technically free to be with Henrik, he would also feel guilty about it.

And I'm also very intrigued by how will my MC confront being a Wolfsbane and a werewolf now. I think as a werewolf there is an easier time maintaining his job than as a vampire. But... He is also now lost the protection being human represented for society.

At least I know their friendship is going to have a very interesting development, because now the feeling Garamond had that MC was his pack, is now undeniable. We are his pack. And now we will share some experiences, like the moon transformation, and others. Maybe we could even play a bit in wolf form. That would be so cute.

I know you probably won't be updating soon, and I understand that. But I wanted to tell you I really enjoyed what you have written, and I would be very delighted if you found enough inspiration and drive to continue. Yet, don't pressure yourself unnecessarily.

Now, an unrelated question: a werewolf MC does get to be as tall as Garamond, or is MC still shorter, even if slightly? Or is this entirely under headcanon territory?

You've touched on a lot of my favourite details in your message as well; things I've enjoyed writing and thinking about writing in the future. I don't plan on updating the public version of the game until the first draft is finished, but I do hope to be able to satisfy your curiosity regarding a lot of those questions someday!

As for the MC's height, it (and everything else about the MC's appearance, minus specific details that come with your chosen monster change) is more or less free to be determined by headcanon. They are canonically shorter than Garamond before becoming a werewolf, although by how much is up to you to decide, and after becoming a werewolf they're an inch or two taller than they were (2-5 centimetres or so). So, if the MC were very tall to begin with, they could be Garamond's equal in height now.
