For the first time since starting to illustrate stuff for others and hoping to become more someday: I feel like I might actually be more than just an illustrator creating what others imagine or want.
I'm sharing the colored draft of a piece I am working on for just me. No one else, no commission, no book, no purpose other than to say something important to me in an artistic way.
I guess drawing all those story and video game characters as a young person paid off in some way. I want to change how the words/things are represented, but this was a start and I wanted to share now as I might not have the gumption later when I overthink it.
I'm curious what you guys think when you look at her.

The Global Dimensions of Brown v. Board of Education
Brown v. Board of Education, perhaps the most famous and influential U.S. Supreme Court decision in the 20th century, centered on the constitutionality of segregation—a seemingly wholly domestic controversy, given it was implemented at the state and local levels. Nevertheless, both the international community and foreign policy considerations undoubtedly influenced the decision in ways that are…

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — More than half a million people in Gaza — a quarter of the population — are starving, according to a report Thursday by the U.N. and other agencies that highlights the humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s bombardment and siege on the territory in response to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. The extent of the population’s hunger eclipsed even the near-famines in Afghanistan and Yemen of recent years, according to figures in the report. The report warned that the risk of famine is “increasing each day,” blaming the hunger on insufficient aid entering Gaza. “It doesn’t get any worse,’’ said Arif Husain, chief economist for the U.N.’s World Food Program. “I have never seen something at the scale that is happening in Gaza. And at this speed.” ... At the start of the war, Israel stopped all deliveries of food, water, medicine and fuel into the territory. After U.S. pressure, it allowed a trickle of aid in through Egypt. But U.N. agencies say only 10% of Gaza’s food needs has been entering for weeks. (Dec. 21, 2023 | Source)

Ancient Babylonia: Exploring Literature, Law, and Justice
“The living need the truth, before rumor pollutes it.”― Mary Renault, Funeral Games The city of Babylon is one of the oldest and most important cities in Mesopotamia, which is now modern-day Iraq. It was founded over 4,000 years ago, and over the centuries, it became a cultural, economic and political center for the region. Babylon was the capital of the Babylonian Empire, which was ruled by…

“Justice looks for no prize and no price; it is sought for itself, and is at once the cause and meaning of all the virtues [...] The worst kind of injustice is to look for profit from injustice.” [Cicero]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is right and what is wrong?
Are not just questions of moral, but the starting point of harmonic coexistence as a civil society. Tracing back into times, where earthly borns were in the state of nature, everyone their own king and judge, the freedom of the individual was forcibly colliding with the confines of the other.
"Without genus, without rules and without stove." [Homer]
In dependence of the followed Image of Man, philosophers constituted different theories of how the human being behaved in times before state government. It is indeed a romantic vision of the primal times of humanity, to suggest this time less violent in comparison to today. The Law of Nature is often presented as the oppite of the Socratic proverb:
"It is better to suffer wrong than to do wrong."
Ancient and medieval philosophies interweaved the personal morallity of the individual, the recognizing of the Good as the originator of the community spirit. The thought is therefore: A level-headed individual is regulating and organising its soul (satisfaction of the need that up-lift the soul, cf. Thomas von Aquin is formulating some material goods as aids that are necessery for the "Act of Virtue", see also the connection to Aristoteles, who is emphasising the importance of physical health to retain morals - It is the climax of Christian influenced litarature when it comes to the interpretation of "The Grandinquisitor" by Dostoevsky, the heavy load of the earthy borns to truely be capable of their spiritual strenght, rejecting the slave bread to attain true freedom [...] Inner peace for worldwide peace, but we still lack equality in law and are blown around by winds of turbulency and momentarily second-hand euphoria...) like an artisan is picking its tools for the right form of the project, the virtues one will handle, think and speak in morally good purposes. Platon is describing many handlings as arts, but the art to govern (+ rhetoric that is improving the sophrosyne of the population, cf. nowadays the increasing of hate speech :'( !!! Populistic incitement that are just poisoning !!!) is considered as the most important. Enacting laws and conclude treaties is the warranty of the own secure and the future of harmony, as every return to the State of Nature would mean disorder and anarchy, the stronger ones prevailing and occupying all for themselves.
The law does not only consist of prohibitions, it is the guarantee of our equality and the consensus of many thinkers from Platon, Aristotles, Cicero, Aquinas, Ibn-Chaldun, Locke to Rousseau is clear in the formulation of the expected collapse in injustice. The lack of jurisdiction leading to kafkaesque bureaucratized trails, mechanical handling of lively flesh, judgements over life and existence, paralyzed like the stranger in Camus' epnoymous work.
In preparation of law studies it is an in-depth gain to establish a profound understanding of the function and necessity behind justice. The legal system is highly linked with the main tasks of the government to guarantee peace and security. So refreshing theories of states to retrace the legitimation of state foundations and the inevitability of the humanity to come together in communities.
Those topics are enormously gripping and this little entry is just a tiny fragment of many many pages of notes and read works. Just a minikin food for thoughts :')
"Law is nothing other than a certain ordinance of reason for the common good, promulgated by the person who has the care of the community." [Aquinas]

🇵🇸 Amidst the rubble of his destroyed home, Ashraf Nafedth burns a book he once treasured—a guide to international law. He now sees it as a lie, failing to protect people like him. The unfair treatment of countries like Palestine by powerful nations like the US shatters his trust in these laws. His burning of the book symbolizes his loss of faith in international law's ability to keep him safe and reflects the struggles of many in similar situations.

Sunday Psalms 10
Psalm 10 Father, why do You hide from Your people? Evil is everywhere. Seize those who are scheming and dishonest, prideful, saying there is no God. Why do You let people prosper who curse You, are dishonest, arrogant, deceitful, oppressive, full of lies, sinners, murderers of the helpless and innocent? Why do You let them think You don’t see them? Father, we need You to act! You see…

(Note: See updated post) The new DRAFT U.N. Resolution, set to be voted on today, calls for:
• ... “urgent and extended humanitarian pauses” in the fighting throughout Gaza and the opening of corridors inside the enclave “for a sufficient number of days to enable full, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access.” • U.N. Secretary General António Guterres to appoint a senior coordinator “with responsibility for facilitating, coordinating, monitoring, and verifying in Gaza, as appropriate, the humanitarian nature” of all assistance, and demands that “the parties to the conflict cooperate with the coordinator to fulfill their mandate without delay or obstruction.” • ... “immediate and unconditional” release of the hostages. It also demands that “all parties to the conflict comply with their obligations under international law ... including with regard to the conduct of hostilities and the protection of civilians and civilian objects.” • It reiterates the council’s “unwavering commitment” to a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians and “stresses the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority.” (12/22/23 | Source: WaPo)
Although the resolution's language was toned down, this is a sign of progress. While such measures are long overdue and should have been honored from the start, we must do everything possible to meet the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza and relieve unfathomable suffering.
DON'T STOP POSTING. KEEP UP THE PUBLIC PRESSURE. DEFEND HUMAN RIGHTS.
Stay tuned for today's vote.
