This quote from the artist caught my attention: “This Launch Ramp is adorned in a skull and copper figure that connote our ceremonial practice in the Big House. The use of skulls was a key reason for the Church placing bans on our ceremony and it was a complete misunderstanding of their use. “Skate or Die,” a phrase originally coined from a late-80’s video game, persists to this day and is a mantra I often repeat in my head if I am feeling too lazy to move. If you’re not out there skateboarding you may be better off dead. I’ve come to understand how fast we can transition from youth to feeling old. 🛹 I’ve always loved this photo of me blasting off my lunch ramp and I was like 17 years old in 1989! I started skateboarding when I was only 13 years old and it was such a major part of my life. I went on to compete in many skateboard competitions, breaking a few bones and basically having some of the craziest and rowdiest years of my life kicking around on a skateboard, listening to punk and hardcore music and tasing hell pretty much anywhere we went!
