I got a whole lot of prompts for evil!Lao Nie and I couldn't think of how to fill them for ages and ages and then I woke up today and I figured it out. So here you go

“Qiren, Qiren! Aren’t you going to introduce me? Where are those vaunted manners of yours?” the man boomed, a wide grin on this face. He was a broad-shouldered man, dressed in all white, the guest robes the Lan sect gave out to people who’d damaged their own; he looked amiable, even a little mischievous in the way he beamed at Lan Qiren, who looked only stern and austere, disapproving frown on his face, in return.

Jiang Cheng couldn’t help but be charmed, a little.

“Yes, Teacher Lan, won’t you introduce us?” he said, unable to resist trying to tease the older man – unthinkable when he’d been younger, but several decades of acquaintance whenever Lan Xichen was too busy to see him allowed for some leeway.

…or so Jiang Cheng had thought, anyway. Lan Qiren’s face was locked into a frown – a scowl, even – and it didn’t budge one bit, making Jiang Cheng take half a step back, suddenly embarrassed as if he’d done something horribly awkward.

“Sect Leader Jiang,” Lan Qiren said stiffly, biting out each word as if it pained him. “Allow me to introduce to you the worst man I have ever had the misfortune of meeting.”

Jiang Cheng stared blankly. What in the world…?

Lan Qiren had met Wen Ruohan. How could this man be worse?

“No, he’s right,” the man said, still cheerful, still amiable. “Let me salute you, Sect Leader Jiang! I’m given to understand that I ruined your life.”

There were quite a few people Jiang Cheng could say that about, but he still had no idea who this was.

“I see,” he said, playing for time. “You…”

“He’s the one who poisoned my uncle.”

Jiang Cheng’s head turned involuntarily. That was Wen Ning, standing there in the shadows as always, and Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian next to him – also staring at him in shock, which was comforting.

Wait. Wen Ning’s uncle? But wouldn’t that mean it was…

Wen Ning was staring straight at the man.

“It was you,” he said. “Wasn’t it?”

“It was,” the man agreed. “You’re Wen Ning, aren’t you? I guess I ruined your life, too…but you don’t get my salute, I’m afraid. It’s just your bad luck.”

“Bad luck!” Lan Qiren exclaimed. He looked offended.

“It is!” The man laughed. “I told Wen Ruohan that I’d wipe his surname off the face of the earth if he double-crossed me. He did, so I did; so it’s only this little gongzi’s bad luck that the leader of his family condemned him.”

“You poisoned Wen Ruohan,” Jiang Cheng said, more questioning than a statement. “I hadn’t even known he’d been poisoned..?”

“It’s all Qiren’s fault,” the man said, and Lan Qiren flinched as if he’d been stabbed. “He’s the one who’s always yattering on about the Lan sect rules – and above all, restraint! Restraint, restraint, restraint…he’s right, too. A sect leader who cannot restrain himself will inevitably overreach, and then the rest of the world will have to correct that overreach.”

The man’s smile widened.

“And it did!”

“You’re saying you did something that took away Wen Ruohan’s restraint?” That was Wei Wuxian. He sounded as confused as Jiang Cheng felt – confused, but also starting to get angry. “And then he – do you know what he did?!”

“Save your words,” Lan Qiren said heavily. “He doesn’t know the meaning of shame or regret. He even arranged his own death to achieve his aims.”

Jiang Cheng blinked, then looked closer: the man’s skin was ashen, like Wen Ning’s. He really was a resurrected corpse, or maybe a ghost of some sort.

“Hardly arranged,” the man demurred. “Inspired, perhaps.”

“You ensured that Wen Ruohan would be the one to kill you, thereby condemning your son to ruin his life by swearing an oath of vengeance against him. And that was the point.”

“And Mingjue did it wonderfully,” the man – the former Sect Leader Nie, apparently? – replied, unruffled. “So what’s the problem? While we may have taken the long way to get there, in the end we got to the outcome I wanted: my sect at the top of the heap, and his all gone. I’m quite satisfied.”

“Wen Ruohan destroyed the cultivation world,” Jiang Cheng snapped, his horror transmuting to anger. “He – my family, my entire sect – countless others – and you say you’re satisfied?! How dare you?!”

“I dare anything,” the former sect leader Nie said. “Anyway, there’s no point in recriminations. I’m already dead; I wouldn’t be here at all if it wasn’t for Lan Qiren. I’m only here to be appeased.”

“Be – appeased?!” Jiang Cheng looked to Lan Qiren. “Teacher Lan?”

“He swore to eradicate Wen Ruohan’s family,” Lan Qiren said tightly. “While I did not know the full details until very recently, it appears that he has been unquestionably successful in doing so. I summoned his spirit here to make an offering – a swap, of sorts.”

“A swap?”

“He wants to give me something nice enough that I agree not to finish the job,” the man said. He was still smiling, horribly enough. “After all, isn’t there still one left?”

After 54 years of being together, ASEAN is at the end of its tether. It has never been more divided than now, split within member states and across all 10 of them, dominated once again by divisive superpower rivalry and competition. In practice, this means ASEAN will appear increasingly ineffectual and inert. There will be much bureaucratic motion but few substantive organizational and policy outcomes amid unresolved challenges from within and from outside the region. ASEAN’s best way forward may require unprecedented radical thinking towards a multi-track organization to ensure relevance and momentum where it can be generated.

For roughly the first 25 years of its regional life in international affairs, ASEAN as we know it was together and divided at the same time. The five original founding members—Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand—were an amalgam but the rest of Southeast Asia was not included at the time. Thanks in part to the camaraderie of their leaders, the five founding members stuck together and got a lot done by carving out regional autonomy for individual national development during the Cold War in the face of the superpower showdown between the United States and the Soviet Union and their opposing systems of Western capitalist development and communist central planning.

After the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet system in 1989-91, ASEAN began the process of becoming a full-fledged regional organization. As then-Indochina’s multiple wars finally came to an end—from north to south Vietnam and communist victory in Laos to the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia—ASEAN kind of won its own Cold War in its own right. By 1992, ASEAN was at a crossroads, having inducted the tiny Brunei sultanate as its sixth member in 1984. It was inevitable that ASEAN was to encompass the whole of Southeast Asia.

The membership expansion to include Vietnam in 1995, Laos and Myanmar in 1997, and Cambodia in 1999—these four were known as the CLMV—rode on the back of regional exuberance. It was a time of breakneck economic growth and development in the original five founding countries. There was no superpower rivalry as such in the 1990s. Political instability in some of the member states was par for the course but incumbent centers of power more or less held sway across the region.

In the 1990s, ASEAN was able to leverage its economic dynamism, enlarged regional size and political continuity to situate itself in the driver’s seat of regionalism and regionalization vehicles, giving rise to “ASEAN centrality” for regional action towards peace and prosperity. As the bigger powers outside Southeast Asia had no such means to promote regional cooperation and resolve tension and conflict, they deferred to and joined ASEAN’s regional platforms, building on the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation with the ASEAN Regional Forum, ASEAN Plus Three and later the East Asia Summit and ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus.

These enabling conditions for ASEAN centrality have changed. Superpower conflict is back, this time between the US and China. For ASEAN to thrive as it used to, the major powers must be on sufficient par and at sufficient rest. If the superpowers go at each other—as the US and Soviet Union demonstrated—Southeast Asia will come under pressure to choose sides. The US and China say they don’t want ASEAN states to choose sides but in fact they have. Cambodia has evidently chosen China, and Vietnam is siding with the US. Other ASEAN members have their variable leanings depending on issues and interests. Thailand is a US treaty ally that acts like a partner, while Vietnam is a US partner which offers alliance functions.

Apart from superpower conflict, the second condition also has changed. Domestic politics in most ASEAN countries is under pressure from below. Elites in states that can adapt, absorb and answer pressure for change and reform to keep their populations on board have a better chance of moving forward by making concessions and self-corrections. Singapore fits this category the most. Incumbent centers of power that suppress without reform in Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia will have a hard time with popular suffering. Indonesia and the Philippines appear to have electoral systems that can allow pressure to be released and measured reforms undertaken but they need to avoid elite entrenchment and enable new political forces to contest for office.

Finally, ASEAN’s vaunted prosperity and development potential are now problematic. The coronavirus pandemic has ravaged Southeast Asia, eroding its growth locomotives. Tourism and all of the services industries across the region may not return to pre-pandemic levels for years. The appeal of a single connected market of more than 650 million and rising middle classes with a combined GDP of US$3 trillion has lost its allure. The pandemic will not lead to the demise of ASEAN but it could spell the end of the ASEAN success story as we know it.

ASEAN’s broad downturn has led to inaction and ineffectiveness. Regarding the South China Sea and China’s upstream Mekong dams, ASEAN lacks a unified and vociferous position. On Myanmar’s coup and crisis, ASEAN’s response with an envoy to promote dialogue has been too little, too late. Democracy and autocracy have emerged as a new ASEAN fault line. Less autocratic states appear to have different preferences than their more democratic peers.

ASEAN’s existential conundrum calls for new thinking. The five founding members—Thailand as the semi-authoritarian laggard among them—should take the lead and bite the bullet on crises and issues that cannot be kicked down the road time and again. Chief among them now is Myanmar. The five original ASEAN members are not far apart in their call for a cessation of violence, the release of political prisoners, a return to dialogue, and a restoration of the democratic process. This should be ASEAN’s main track on Myanmar. The alternative to a multi-pronged, multi-track ASEAN is inaction and irrelevance, which will invite superpower interference and dominance.

a person who is well read. he doesn't care how they present their knowledge at all. they could be very ditsy, but if they're well read on what they talk about, they've got his attention ( literally so many requested characters are into big sexy brains omg )

B = Baby (Do they want a family? Why/Why not?)

probably, but not until wayyy later in the relationship. he wants the child to have what he didn't when he was younger. a good home, and loving parents, and nice siblings.

C = Cuddle (How do they cuddle?)

with. conviction. if he decides its time to cuddle, its time to cuddle. there's no escaping from it. it's not all the time he wants to cuddle, but when he does, you can't ignore him.

D = Dates (What are dates with them like?)

they feel like they're on a different plane of existence. he makes you feel like royalty from ancient times, or the protagonist of a greek love epic. he in general has this aura of " i don't belong in this time "

E = Everything (You are my ____ (e.g. my life, my world...))

kiyo : " you are my soul. "

F = Feelings (When did they know they were in love?)

when he started gathering things for you. just small things at first. a flower with your hair color, or a rock that he thought was pretty. he's pretty much like a cat. if you feed him and love him enough he'll start giving you random gifts.

G = Gentle (Are they gentle? If so, how?)

i've done three of these and i still don't exactly understand this one. but he's relatively gentle overall as a person. he slowly introduces new subjects and reads social ques to be quiet or when to speak.

H = Hands (How do they like to hold hands?)

he is Not a big fan of affection like holding hands. it's just not in him to do it. but when he does, it's almost always while you're asleep or cuddling.

I = Impression (What was their first impression?)

' they aren't scared. interesting. '

J = Jealousy (Do they get jealous?)

nope. i don't even think he understands truly what it means to be jealous. it's not him. he knows you love him and doesn't worry about your relationships with other people. he expects the same treatment in return.

K = Kiss (How do they kiss? Who initiated the first kiss?)

his kisses are gentle, as if he didn't want to break you. he would probably be very reserved for the first few kisses, but over time he'll get more comfortable and more into it.

L = Love (Who says 'I love you' first?)

you probably did, to be fair. i don't really have a reason behind this, i just feel like he would want you to say it first, so he would wait for you to do so. it's a bit of a test, just to see if you truly love him. because he already knows how he feels, but he can never be sure unless you're ready to take that step with him.

M = Memory (What's their favourite memory together?)

when you two went to the museum together, and you were telling / him / about the artifacts there ! he was just so surprised that you knew this stuff. it never really hit him that you were just repeating things that he had told you in the past.

N = Nickel (Do they spoil? Do they buy the person they love everything?)

he kind of spoils, but not with money or anything. just with random things he finds. a feather on the street ? you'll be happy to see it when he gets home. a book from the library ? you two can read it together. stuff like that.

O = Orange (What colour reminds them of their other half?)

probably a soft color like light blue. light blue often represents purity and emotional strength, and it's a color that's soft to look at.

P = Pet names (What pet names do they use?)

i don't think he would use petnames per say, but i think he would ' nickname ' to refer to you after different gods and goddesses of romance from different cultures. persephone, aphrodite, yue lao, aizen-myoo, hathor and others are all kinds of petnames he has for you.

Q = Quaint (What is their favourite non-modern thing?)

it's korekiyo. what do you think. it's everything that's quiet and small under the moon. he likes long walks in the middle of the night, and studying different artifacts, and snuggling up while reading a book.

R = Rainy Day (What do they like to do on a rainy day?)

a typical day includes him staying inside and learning, so that's not going to change when it's raining outside. sometimes if he gets bored he calls you and talks to you for hours about whatever he's currently learning about, just to bounce ideas off of you and hear your voice.

S = Sad (How do they cheer themselves/others up?)

you might've guessed it but,, reading helps this boy calm down a lot. even though he's chill most of the time, i still can see him prone to outbursts when everything gets too much. during those times, he just needs to chill with a book.

T = Talking (What do they like to talk about?)

the evolution of the human race as an intelligent species, the way people act in different scenarios with different backgrounds, human geography and the history behind it. that kind of stuff.

U = Unencumbered (What helps them relax?)

being in bed with a good book and light piano music with you right beside him. it's like a wake up call and a lullaby at the same time.

V = Vaunt (What do they like to show off? What are they proud of?)

he is also not the kind of guy who likes to show off a lot, but he is rather proud of his collection of artifacts and his knowledge about people.

W = Wedding (When, how, where do they propose?)

i can see him proposing in a forest clearing. like, he just went to study an artifact there that most adventurers don't know of, and it was slightly raining. both of your hairs were wet but neither of you minded. and he just,, popped the question. it had been talked out before, of course, so you knew it was coming soon, but it still had an element of surprise.

Love life :

I'm having the best relationship this year! It's literally the healthiest relationship I've ever been in, its even beyond what I imagined! I literally met my perfect match our compatibility is off the chartsss we're so perfect together. He's def my soulmate we get eachother so well without even speaking. It's amazing how much fun we have together , it's so lighthearted yet deep , it's transparent and beautiful and pure. Ugh our love is so powerful!
